Review Au79 - Abbotsford

Sally Fong
Searched up the best cafe to visit and happen to find Au79 and it was close to where we had to go. The Cafe is located on the quieter street away from the huff and puff of the busy street. Was very surprised at the beautiful interiors filled with greenery. Coffee was great and beautifully presented - I do enjoy my coffee strong. Food was amazing, healthy and hearty. Realised they had these beautiful pastry as we were paying the bill. Service was amazing. Well done

Cafe environments were very nice and big. If you have big group of friends or family it will be a good idea to have coffee or brunch here. Food was a bit over price if I pay that price I would expecting more fancy stuff in it. We order big breakfast$24, burger$28 and seafood pasta$29 as you see from my pictures they looks normal you can just order from your local cafe and pay less. Also the coffee mug / glass they use to serve were half size than the normal cafe but they charge the same price with normal.

Nice looking cafe. My usual dbl. Espresso and magic were good with nicely balanced flavour in the espresso. Brunch was nice we had the Avo toast with a side of bacon and Vegetarian Big breakfast. The staff were friendly, professional and attentive. We also bought some pastries to take home which were nice.

The cafe interior is so nice, beautiful and a lot of plants šŸŒ± Photo: Prawn egg Benedict and big breakfast with flat white and batch brew. Coffee was good and food as well.

Great food and great coffee! The Big Breakfast was perfectly portioned and to top it off the cafe has a wonderful ambiance and interior! It is definitely a go too in Abbotsford!

Great food here! My partner loved her soba salad and I really enjoyed my Wagyu burger. The coffee is excellent and the staff were very warm and welcoming. Will definitely be back!

Very relaxed atmosphere....lots of plants and staff helpful and friendly. Coffee and brekkie dishes were great too! It is one of the largest cafes in the area ...

I booked a table for four on Sunday. And as you can imagine how busy they usually are, no surprise another long queue. We got there at 12:10 waiting for our 12:30 booking. We were seated at 12:35pm. Waitress were running their ass off and doing a great job in ordering and delivering food. I brought in a cake from somewhere else with asking the lady when I booked the table, and I was fine with their policy that there will be a cakage charged for external cake as they have a patisserie there. When we finished our meals, the waitress came and asked us how was everything going, etc, and we asked for the cake. Few minutes later, she came with the cake in its original packaging and brought nothing else. So we had to ask for knife and spoons. She then came with the cutleries, and we were all staring at each other like: how are we suppose to have the cake without plates? So then we had to ask for plates. And DIY everything ourself. My only feeling is that, if you are going to charge cakage. I would expect you to at least take the cake out of the box and serve the cake for us. Otherwise what is the cakeage charged on? Like a tax to bring good into Australia kinda thing? I'm sure the management team should value this and train their staff properly. Other than the not very nice birthday cake serving experience. The food was above average, recommend the 24 hour braised lamb croquettes, and the French fries in crispy chicken Bao. Matcha latte was slightly overdose of sugar, but cafe latte was really nice.

Love this place!! So beautiful on the inside, full of plants and greenery, such an awesome vibe!! And best of all, the yummiest food!!

Today was my first time to AU79 and I went alone. The staff were friendly and welcoming and I found them to be very attentive. The coffee was delicious, the menu was substantial and had many options I wanted to try. I ordered the spicy chicken bao. It is not described as a burger in the menu and I was totally shocked when a burger was placed in front of me. However, one bite of the light, fluffy bao burger bun and I was in heaven. What a pleasant surprise. It was amazing. My first experience was great and I can't wait to go back and try more from the menu and share with friends.

We arrived at AU79 this morning without a booking and being Fathers Day you can imagine how busy it was! We were told it would be around a 20min wait. 25mins later we were seated in the most magnificent cafe! Surrounded by greenery and flowers, we were in awe!! From the menu to the staff everything was faultless! The smashed avo hit the spot (including crispy kale and chilli nuts) and the kids loved the waffles and hash potato! Considering how busy it was the staff were amazing and there wasn't a long wait for your drinks or meals. AU79 you have nailed it and have won some new fans...the youngest being 7! Can't wait to come back!!

From the smile at the front door (thank you Robin) ļæ½ to the very attentive/professional waitstaff, to the amazing interior/menu Au_79 certainly is kicking goals. Have been to Au_79 three times and totally enjoyed the food/coffee/atmosphere each time! The space is quite breaktaking and the enormity will amaze. Housing it's own bakery and bean roaster it's a one stop cafe ļæ½ Definitely should be on your to visit list ļæ½

Best gem in Richmond!! We absolutely love love love this place the style / food and coffee is faultless. Laurence and the entire staff are beyond brilliant and the food is always amazing. Love our local hangout. Great Veggie Options and a few Vegan

We had a most yummy lunch at AU yesterday. The pumpkin pasta, the Mushroom Hash, the lamb rump were all delicious, finishing it off with a sinfully to-die-for Belgian Waffle! And we must not forget the good service too!

Beautiful space and a warm, genuine welcome the moment you step inside along with great food and even better coffee, make this spot a must see. Will definitely be back soon!
Steven Carrier
Nice place design wise, decent food but nothing special. Slightly poor cue/waiting system. Cafe allows bookings of tables by reservation, leading to empty tables and lots of people waiting.
Cynthia Ann
Advertises cold pressed juice on drinks menu charging $7.50 per glass. Provides bottled juice available from Coles for $3.00. The place is overrated. Meals are hit and miss. Mervice is all over the place. Coffee is ok. Baristas are always nice. Think I'll be going back to Thee Bags Full.

Gorgeous trendy cafe. Food was fresh and staff were friendly. Highly recommend AU79.

I visited with my three daughters and grandson we loved the cafe.. we had the most gorgeous passionate waiter and loved the food atmosphere and service .. the okonomiyaki jumped to my All time favourite brekky/brunch and we took home a loaf of sweet potato and garlic bread which is delicious

Such a great place to have around the corner! The food was great and the place itself was very nice to look at! The staff were very friendly and attentive which was also very nice to see!! We will definantly be going back soon šŸ˜Ž Xx

What an amazing eatery. Great service and yummy food, we especially loved the atmosphere and the outlook, all the beautiful greenery. Definitely worth a visit, it's a must.

Today my three daughters and myself enjoyed A superb breakfast. Nothing to fault Scenery was perfect. Staff friendly .food sensational! Will be back oneday !
Lidija Reljic
Some staff need to learn how to smile. There was a hair in the sugar and the coffee took ages. I understand it's busy but maybe it just needs to be a bit more organised with more qualified staff. The place looks fantastic though, design team did great.
Donna Standfield
About 25 minutes wait for a table they said as we put our name on the wait list. After 1 hour and 15 minutes waiting to be seated, we gave it up as a bad joke! If it's going to be that long DON'T say it's 25 minutes. Will NOT be going back.

The corn fritters came out looking rather oily, but the combination of it was the salsa definitely lightened the dish. It was super soft, almost gooey like(?) but still quite delicious! The Benedict was really creamy and the beef was tender but it was quite overwhelming by the end. All in all the meals were enjoyable, would come again when they have the full menu available.
Bobby
I went here because they have the new Eagle One coffee machine (not to mention the EK grinders). I was expecting some amazing things. The filter coffee was good, espresso was a little cold but OK. Food and service was fine. I think it's just too big to really allow quality, as they are just so busy. The worst was the espresso beans I bought from there (Midas blend). Way over roasted meaning they taste woody and that roasty/burnt flavour. Not very nice and basically going straight in the bin, right after I go back to my normal beans from a better roaster like Proud Mary.
Sally Phillips
Another exceptional brunch cafe in Melbourne! Absolutely huge interior with tables in the front and back. Excellent service. They make their own bread on site. Food came out quickly and we ate until we could not eat any more! Highly recommended for small and large groups!
Timinmelbourne
I called in here for a coffee. The service was really friendly and welcoming.<br/><br/>My strong skinny latte was ok, unfortunately for me it was watery and the coffee flavour was o, without a great depth of flavour surprisingly.<br/><br/>Thereā€™s not much more to say really, it was an average coffee.

I love going to AU79. Staff's friendly and beautiful decor. Although I regularly have been to AU79, I tried the Seafood Stew for the first time and it was absolutely devine. It something you have to taste and believe it. The hot chocolate there is one of the nicest I've had.

šŸŒæSERVICEšŸŒæ<br/><br/>Definitely an insta worthy cafe that lives up to its hype! The interior is gorgeously done up, the abundance of natural lighting and pretty backdrops making it perfect for taking photos not just of the food šŸ„°<br/><br/>Despite coming on a very busy weekend, the 200 seat capacity eatery meant I was seated quickly and service was extremely efficient. One thing to note however, was that the waiter had accidentally switched my drink orders with the table besideā€™s initially until we pointed it out. <br/><br/>šŸ„˜MAINSšŸ„˜<br/><br/>I ordered the waffles with chocolate soil, chocolate brownie gelato, butterscotch custard, strawberry and raspberry purĆ©e, crispy meringue and fresh strawberries. This is hands down, the best waffle Iā€™ve had. Super crispy crunch with a soft fluffy inside that isnā€™t overly sweet. The very generous brownie servings in the gelato made it perfect. The purĆ©e helped cut through the richness of the dish and really tied the meringue pieces altogether <br/><br/>Boyfie got a pulled beef brisket benedict with potato hash, saffron pickled vegetables, poached eggs and sriracha hollandaise with a side of mushrooms. Nothing to fault with the eggs benny. The eggs were perfectly gooey and not overdone. The potato hash was crunchy but still tender inside, not the kind of mushy paste that you sometimes get when a lot of flour is mixed into it. It was the mushrooms however, that let the dish down. They had little to no seasoning on them, which was a shame considering they were cooked perfectly šŸ˜”<br/><br/>ā˜•ļøEXTRASā˜•ļø<br/><br/>Chips were crispy and nicely seasoned but nothing to write home about. The mork hot chocolate was rich and smooth, with a slight hint of bitterness. It also was not overly sweet which I enjoyed. Iced latte was nice too and the coffee not burnt<br/><br/>šŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸ / šŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸ

Absolutely gorgeous cafe- such a great vibe and really attentive staff. Food was excellent! Great pricing and large portions. Huge range of gluten free, lactose free and vegetarian! Best soy latte Iā€™ve had in a while!!

unlike the other brunch places that only offers pretty food, this one is actually yummy. the mushroom one is the star!! def a must try!

Basketballfreak came to Melbourne to eat and he wants to go to Au79, which has been on my list forever. We sat down in one of the spacious couch areas, enjoying the greenery while browsing through the menu. <br/><br/>We ordered some coffees to start with and Basketballfreak enjoyed his flat white and my mocha was really nice here. We ordered waffles and the soba noodle salad. <br/><br/>The waitress did warn me itā€™s more like stir fry noodles than salad but it was quite weird that it hasnā€™t got more greens in it. I guess I was hoping for stir fry noodles with at least a side of rocket or something so that was a little bit disappointing. However the stir fry noodles was actually really nice, not nicely seasoned and not overly salty. The salmon I added on the side is beautifully cooked as well. It just probably need a better description.<br/><br/>Basketballfreaks liked his waffles, it has a slightly savory tang to it which was interesting. i had a little bite and found the waffle is on the lighter side, not hearty and fluffy as expected. <br/><br/>Overall it was a nice breakfast although there were some unexpected elements to it.<br/><br/>

I visited Au79 in the context of an event.<br/> <br/>The venue is located at Abbotsford and not only is the entrance an indicator of the beautiful inside and the amazing experience that will soon happen once you walk inside the doors, but the whole layout and disposition once you walk in, really takes you to another world!<br/>Because it cafĆ© was closed from their usual opening hours for this private event, the venue and barista station was peacefully quiet and clean, and all the remainder of the main room was just stunning and attractively decorated with plants and murals on the walls.<br/> <br/>The place is an on site roaster, bakery, patisserie, chocolatier and it works as a function space too and they try to excel and be of Gold Standard in everything that they do.<br/> <br/>I was welcomed by the staff and the owner of the venue and I can definitely tell this is a very passionate and dedicated team. For the event they had catered their own breads with spreads and the quality was just remarkable! They featured their:<br/>- Pumpkin Bread ā€“ beautiful colour, sightly moist, tender on the inside, kind of a springy light texture and with a crunchy crumb!<br/>- Fruit Bread ā€“ incredible dark colour and with actual pieces of raisins chuncks that I loved. This was my favourite one and again moist and tender.<br/>- Olive Bread ā€“ interesting one, with pieces of olives inside and a more sour taste. Same consistency as the ones before and paired really well with the savoury spread!<br/>- Seeds Bread ā€“ with evenly distributed air with fine grain, thin- spaces this was just delicious and loved the subtle touch of crunchiness from the seeds!<br/>- Sourdough Tiger Bread ā€“ the ā€˜classicā€™ bread, again, moist, tender and light with a medium crumb consistency.<br/>- ā€˜Hard small sourdough rollā€™ - not sure how to call this one (since I am not a baker) but it seemed like a like baguette in diameter size but with more wholes inside and crunchy texture all the way! Very similar to a cracker actually and like you see in grazing tables!<br/> <br/>I read on their menu that all breads are started over 48 hours prior to them being baked to allow slow fermentation and flavor and that they have classic European style breads. They had spreads of: hummus, beetroot hummus, savoury, olive oil and what I think it was a yogurt spread (I was told that one had dairy so I didnā€™t try that one). All the other ones were delightful and definitely loved hummus the most (because who doesnā€™t love hummus right?)<br/> <br/>The place was beautifully decorated for the event and I love visiting places like these that support good causes (they support the Do Good Health Project with the Land of a thousand hills in Rwanda and raised over $5000, with their house Midas blend, which helped build Hana Maternity clinic).<br/>Even though I just came here for an event and I was quite happy quite my experience and shots taken, I would love to visit and try some items from their menu because that brown rice and white quinoa bowl would certainly be marvelous! And the granola bowl that looks amazing and I would love to photograph!

Another awesome cafe hidden away in Abbotsford. Came here a few times and am always impressed with the food and coffee! Had a burger last week and it was šŸ‘šŸ½

Itā€™s a lovely cafe, full with plants. I love that! The food, the environment, all my favourite!

Staff were polite, extremely beautiful set up. Food was good had the kale and corn fritters, itā€™s a must try. a little on the pricy side and coffee was ok.

Au79 is to die for! The whole aesthetic of the place is gorgeous! Plants, plants and even MORE PLANTS! Iā€™m in plant heaven! As for the food, there must be a reason for why I always come back. Itā€™s delicious! The coffee is just as good and the customer service is A+++ I leave smiling from ear to ear every time! Iā€™ll be back soon šŸ¤¤šŸ¤¤šŸ˜šŸ˜

Visited this place with my colleagues. I cannot fault the food here. Everything here is really good. This would be my regular spot if it was nearer to my location.

A great cafe for breakfast or lunch (or of course the all important brunch)! Itā€™s a large space with a great menu. The staff were friendly and service was attentive and quick. Lots of food options to suit a varied group!<br/>

Lunching at Au79, located in the urban jungle around the corner from Victoria st Richmond with the 109 bh tram.Ā Warehousey this used to be a garage with added greenery, HUGE plants. Booths and tables that go right to the back of the building. It's very very warm and there's no air con... btw they make and sell their own bread here.
Wearekimleaf
Amazing place and delicious food! Did take awhile to arrive to our table but the decor helps the minutes pass by. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Bring the gal pals here!
PositivelyDelicioUs
Melbournes largest cafe. These guys are big. Sporting a coffee Roaster, bakery and large-dedicated function area. Riddled with plants, which always helps to create a comfortable environment. Food is decent and same goes for coffee.
Sylvia's POV
Had a quick brunch with friends before going to a street festival. The atmosphere is very bright, green, and modern with plenty of seating all the way to the back of the building.<br/>I had an iced matcha latte to drink. It wasn't very flavourful, but nice and cold especially using a metal straw.<br/>To eat, I had the lamb hash, which was very interesting. The hash was fine, the lamb was a little chewy and I personally did not like the herb salad.<br/>Overall, this is a nice cafe to catch-up with groups as there's space to accommodate and a friendly vibe.

Waiter was a bit of a lostie and mixed up our drinks order. But other than that the food was delicious, small portions but still good. The sourdough bread sample area was a great idea and we brought a loaf!

3.5/5! āļøāļøāļø<br/>1. Their booking system is really convenient. Went for brunch with a group of 10 ppl easily.<br/>2. Good services.<br/>3. Had the lamb hash. Big portion and really filling. The eggplant puree quite bitter and had this burnt taste. Overall it was a pleasing dish 3/5<br/>4 my friend had the gnocchi. She said it was soooo good so i would recommend that one.<br/>
Angelica
Came here for my birthday and the style of the place was amazing and very aesthetic ā˜ŗļø Love how they use metal straws for drinks. The food was great however the iced coffee wasnā€™t nice at all. It tasted burnt. However I will still recommend and will be coming back in the future.

This stunning pork belly is a must have off the specials list at AU79 Cafe. Drop in and have a brunch on the weekends or just breakfast on weekdays. It's a great atmosphere and the waiters are great which always helps. I also tried their linguini which was fabulous as well.
N
Short guy, probably a manager, was doing unnecessary sprints up and down the floor when there was probably about 10pax in the venue. He checked us back a few times which just made us feel very uncomfortable to be honest. All the other wait staff were very professional and lovely, 10/10.. food (especially their bread, yum!) was also really good but still wondering what was the deal with the manager.... anyway Iā€™d go back!
Wendytong628
Not my favourite. The environment is pretty nice and the girls there are very helpful which I really appreciate except weā€™d been waiting for more than 20 mins. Smoked salmon is hmm average.
AH
Having really enjoyed the food here previously, I was disappointed to buy a hot cross bun the other week that was absolutely scorched on the bottom. Was very disappointed that a cafe of seemingly high quality would sell this to customers. Won't be returning to Au79 again unfortunately.
Decent Feed
After visiting Au79, I can comfortably proclaim it as the gold standard for a cafe. While not every business can emulate its spacious interior (easily the biggest I've been to), they would go a long way in reproducing the quality of Au79's food. I ordered the Big Breakfast, a well put together classic. The potato hash was crisp and delicious, pairing wonderfully with bacon and perfectly cooked eggs. The chutney provided a nice but non-overpowering tang while the mushrooms played their part in a complementary role without possessing a strong earthy taste that can find its way into some dishes. <br/>The Kale and Corn Fritters was certainly a plate full of flavour as they came neatly stacked on a bed of tomato and chilli chutney, utterly delicious. The cucumber salsa combined with the fritters was perfect, super refreshing. <br/>Despite having much more area to cover than your run-of-the-mill hole in the wall cafe, the customer service provided by the staff was not lacking either. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

šŸŒŸšŸŒŸ 4.5 STARS šŸŒŸ šŸŒŸ<br/><br/>What a beautiful, green, fresh and dazzling environment.<br/><br/>I loved walking to my table through hanging ferns and blossoming greenery!<br/><br/>This place is beautiful! Gardens everywhere, fresh bread on display to sample, friendly staff and a comfortable environment for brunch.<br/><br/>I can here with my partner and we ordered the salmon and fish burger (on special).<br/><br/>The food was delicious! Great flavours and well balanced. The prices are on the high end for brunch, but again, this cafe steps up to the occasion with the whole experience of dining.<br/><br/>Such a great place to visit. Warm and welcoming! A must try. Iā€™m one for something unique and this surely is unique!<br/><br/>Thanks AU šŸ„°

Came here for brunch and the place looked amazing. From the outside it looks like a small cafe but once your inside. Wow...the staff were friendly and was quick to greet every customer. We ordered the big breakfast and the spaghetti dish. both tasted great and I highly recommend them. The drinks were apple juice and berry smoothie which were fresh and tasty. Worth the travel and will definitely return.

Au79 is our local cafe, we've been here twice and would be back again! Great for big group bookings as the place is HUGE! A real fan of the interior cause I'm a plant lover, and it's pretty much a lush jungle in there.Ā <br/>The food is fresh, very beautifully plated, portions are a little smaller than we'd like though. Coffee is good and presented well. Menu has a variety of brunch items that caters to all different taste buds which is awesome.
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
Been to this cafe twice and still love to go back. The cafe ambience is so relaxing. They have great coffee and good food. We really like the waffle, the raspberry sorbet and popping candy was yum!<br/><br/>The staff was lovely too.
Yuki Does Brunch
Lovely interior with high roofs and plants placed everywhere around the cafe giving it a nice, relaxing vibe. It seemed to be quite a large space but we we're seated right at the front of the cafe.<br/>Drinks were all fine and food came out quickly. I ordered the prana chai and lime/coconut chai pudding. This was really nice and quite filling. A friend ordered the chilli eggs and said it was spicier than expected so heads up on that.Ā <br/>Overall I think I was expecting a little more value for the price but the food was good and it is a good spot to try if in the area.
Kit Cat
The atmosphere here is really lovely with the plants everywhere. All the meals were great but i felt like they were missing an element like a piece of bread or salad on the side (except for the burger)but that was ok because it let us save room for dessert (forgot to take photo).desserts were awesome but that's because they were from the cake shop "don't lose your temper".overall pretty good.
Chang Chang
Came here on a weekday morning and very happy with everything. There is big indoor so we can choose where to seat, no long waiting time to Q. The latte, flat white was good but not much choice in brunch menu. staff are nice and friendly.Love the atmosphere, very relaxed and gorgeous style!

I LOVED the layout of this cafe. It is BRIGHT and it is VIBRANT. A very very cool space. Somewhere I could easily bring a laptop and just crack on with some work. <br/><br/>Letā€™s start with the drinks. I ordered a long black and my friend ordered one of their juices. The coffee wasnā€™t too bitter and the juice was super fresh. 10/10 for the drinks. Also the service upon arrival in which we were asked if wanted a drink straight away. <br/><br/>The food. The menu has a QR code in which if you scan you can see pictures of all the dishes. This is BRILLIANT. As they say you eat with your eyes. It didnā€™t make the decision of what to eat on their great menu any easier however once you did make a decision you knew exactly what to expect! <br/><br/>I ordered the charred greens with a side of chicken, eggs and mushroom. The only thing for me I would say is the chicken portion was a little small for the price you pay for it. But it was nicely cooked and tasty. Literally that is the only bit wrong with the brunch I had. The beetroot hummus was bold and really added colour to the dish as well as flavour and texture.<br/><br/>My friend ordered the soba noodle salad. It was full of noodles and greens! A great portion size. He loved it. And wiped the plate clean! <br/><br/>All in all a GREAT brunch. Tasty, quality atmosphere and service. 9.5/10

This place has really great decor; truly a beautiful place !<br/>The food is beautifully presented - but wasnā€™t my favourite ! Hence the 3/5! But overall was a great Melbourne experience !

Came here at 230pm for coffee and to do some reading. Good ambience and service here. The venue is amazing - perfect for gatherings, baby showers, birthday celebrations. High ceilings do wonders to a place. Enjoyed the iced mocha - wasnā€™t too sweet and my Husband liked the ice latte too. Will be back to try the brunch food.

Au79 had been on my radar for a while but never quite made it there but was excited to know that a networking event I was invited to was held there. Don't be deceived by the eclectic outside because inside is bright, open and airy with a lovely funky cafe feel about it. Our meeting was held out the back an easily catered for 30 of us. However, in that space as we were finishing was a long table for around 20 and on the other side, booths for say 4 - 6. The capacity of this venue was quite extraordinary.<br/><br/>In the front is where most of us would normally drink, eat and hang out. The space is so inviting with the natural light, raw bright walls with delicate white murals and high industrial ceilings.<br/><br/>The staff are wonderful and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble.<br/><br/>Toilets are clean and I can't believe I'm saying this but the large beautiful spray of flowers made it even nicer. In fact, the entire place was sprinkled with flowers and greenery that created an endearing aesthetic.<br/><br/>You not only just buy food but potted plants, reuseable cups, bread and cakes so do drop in and check out what's on offer.<br/><br/>Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking out front isn't too bad but more challenging during busy periods - stick with it, you always find something.<br/><br/>Will return and thank you everyone.

My partner and I actually had our wedding reception here last week, the food was flawless, the service impeccable and the atmosphere perfect.<br/><br/>We are delighted that the high quality cafe service also carries over to evening functions too.<br/><br/>Would totally recommended for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

Many customers on Saturday the place is big. The food portion is large as well and taste quite good. Service is fast and friendly. Interior design is very unique as well.
Halal Food Melbourne
Finally made it down to Au79 after following them on IG for such a long time. Hands down favourite cafe fit out Melbourne in our humble opinion, so light, airy and fresh - the greenery just makes you feel so energised. Staff were super friendly and attentive, weā€™ve been 3 times now and all 3 times there was a waiting line. But we didnā€™t wait for too long! The coffee was VERY nice. Nobody on our table had anything bad to say about our food either, everything was tasty. Unfortunately the meat is not halal so we were restricted to vegetarian and seafood options but we were completely satisfied with our choices

A friend told me to try this place out and have meaning to do so which finally did. Totally understand why he enjoyed this place.<br/>Standing from the outside of the resturant you would think it was just another cafe and i thought to myself whats the big deal but as you start walking in especially towards the back of the massive premises you start feeling relaxed and feels like you've walked into a nursery.<br/><br/>Water was brought to our table very quickly with menus. Dad had a soft shell crab burger, mum had a prawn linguini pasta while i had the Soba noodles adding Chicken. For drinks we ordered ice coffee, latte and an in house made ice tea. Coffees were good but thought my ice tea could have been slightly sweeter.<br/>The linguini pasta had really good flavour of prawn with just the perfect amount of sauce. The burger was good with not having the crab being too dry as many places i try the crab is either to oily or to dry. My Soba noodle was good but i thought it had to much veggies and not enough noodles. It did have too much fried shallots on it but the Chicken..... was AMAZING. My parents are very fussy eaters but they really enjoyed their meals.<br/><br/>I ordered a berry cheese cake for mum as it was her birthday. The waiter (Laurence) popped the cake down on the table and asked if we wanted to share it, i told him its my mum bday so she could have it all. He returned with a candle which i thought was a very nice thought. We started talking to Laurence which he then asked if we liked coffee. He left and returned with 3 cups of their own roasted coffee for us to try. Laurence was so friendly , helpful and even made my parents laugh with saying Happy Chinese New Year in Mando.<br/>Forgot to mention the cheese cake, it was to die for. My family has been in the baking business since i was very young and for a long time baker and cake maker, for him to say the cheese cake was good, its GOOOOOD!<br/><br/>A very enjoyable experience, food and service was great.<br/>As everyone has different expectations of food and flavour it may not be ur cup of tea but to just go see the premise is worth doing but i would think go their early on weekends would be a very good idea.

We to wait 20 minutes for a table but thats not completely unusual in Melbourne at the weekend. The venue itself was lovely but my friends meal was inedible, tasteless and dry. My meal (veggie Benedict) has so much sauce on it that which was so rich that you couldn't taste anything else. I explained this to the waitress who just shrugged and didn't even apologise. The rude counter staff eventually served us and we paid in full and got out of there. With so many amazing brunch spots in Melbourne, do not waste your time with this one.

Au79 is a slick operation that operates like a well-oiled machine. We loved the stunning fit out which boasts a light, bright ambience with plenty of natural light. Together with the use of earthy tones and lush planting in the atrium, the space is wonderfully inviting.<br/><br/>Most (if not everything) is made in house. The coffee roaster roasts each batch, the baker kneads the dough, the pastry chef carefully constructs each work of art. Together, they make a synchronised symphony, all under the one roof of a converted mechanics workshop.

This place is very nice and cozy. Fit to hang out with your girls and stuff. Really love the ambience they made. The food also nice and great. The waitresses are very humble and has good services. Iā€™d recommend this cafe to my friends! Iā€™ll visit you again!!

awesome place with great food and coffee. love the astmostphere and the design of the shop. the waiting time could be long but it worth the wait.

Absolutely in love with this place, you must able to find something your like. A huge space with green garden interior, feeling so rejuvenated dining here. Their menu offers a wide choices including breakfast and lunch options, from light snacks to standard meal like pasta and burger. <br/><br/>Tried their prawn linguini and brisket benedict with a fries on the side, the prawn jus was fantastic, i wouldnt find anything to complain, pasta was perfectly cooked to al dente and the prawn was so enticing! The brisket benedict was an art piece, the brisket was extremely tender and soft and so so so so juicy, with the crisp of the hash brown, i dare no one can resist it!

I just donā€™t understand what the fuss is all about. I came here on New Yearā€™s Day hence the extra surcharge. I didnā€™t mind that at first, but then I expected a bit too much with my sister and friends telling me Au79 is nice. I braved myself to go to this area of suburb which makes me feel anxious and unsafe. When I finished my meal, I was disappointed so I ordered a takeaway coffee to see if my experience could be improved. I didnā€™t like it either and if you know me, I rarely say that a long black is not nice or that a brunch place is not enjoyable. Maybe just not my cup of tea...
Tracey @ NoWongFood
As good as gold they sayā€¦ Au79 has been an instagrammable place for all our brunch lovers. Itā€™s has a very pretty setting of indoor plants and with modern sleek grey and gold tones. The dining area is huge and had I known earlier, it would have been the perfect hens brunch!. Iā€™ve now been at Au79 twice. I couldnā€™t write a review on my first visit because it wasnā€™t comprehensive and couldnā€™t try many dishes on the menu.

Such a lovely fit out for a cafe, you are surrounded by beautiful greenery. The space is quite large. Both the food and coffee are quite nice with the staff helpful and friendly. <br/>Lots of space for larger groups or just you!

Love the coffee and indoor greeneries decoration. Staff was really friendly . Weā€™re here for our coffee break before watching aquaman movie

An excellent cafe - very large with loads of tables, and an indoor nursery. You can buy plants and other items here! The food we tried was really delicious and they made a good coffee. There is usually a line on the weekend but I would say it's worth the wait (doesn't take too long).

Could not fault this cafe! Amazing food, coffee and service. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. <br/><br/>The new summer menu is worth a try! Loved the chilli scramble on a spring onion pancake. Yum.

Impeccable service - Great Food - Warm, Welcoming Atmosphere. Will be returning here again.Ā <br/>With the already aesthetic nature of Abbotsford, this fits right into the area perfectly.

Beautiful fit out. Well put together menu with excellent quality food. Great coffee. Service sometimes frantic but still good nonetheless!!!

Such great service, everyone is so lovely and happy which really brightens up the place. The theme and design is also very aesthetic which I love! The food is so great and everything was just so nicely presented. The drinks we ordered were so refreshing especially on a day thatā€™s 38 degrees! Came here around 4 times already and would definitely continue to come

My partner and I recently hosted a pre-wedding brunch for 20 of our family members at Au79 and it was simply perfect. The food was incredible and the service was impeccable considering the staff were having to take and deliver orders for 20 people across two tables. <br/>We even had a little stage area to ourselves! For anyone who wants an event space or just a casual brunch with friends, we would highly recommend this place! They even sent us home with a few house-made sweet treats!

Loved loved this place. It was so beautiful and th greenery was gorgeous. I really enjoyed sitting her with my family and having brunch.<br/>They have changed the menu from the zomato photos. They only have breakfast now not lunch but they have 2-3 specials available aswell.<br/>The service was perfect and they were veey accommodating and friendly. It's a pretty big place. You can see the kitchen which is pretty cool. The food was also delicious. We ordered the burger, vegeterian greens with wild rice, smoked salmon on toasts, falafel bowl, muesli and waffles. Everything yum and we enjoyed it. The waffles were a little bland needed more sweetness but that's just my personal taste. Highly recommend coming here with friends and family.

Rated 3.5 but rounded to 4 for the purposes of Zomato.<br/><br/>Finally bit the bullet and went to AU79 in the face of its legendary lines. The days of 2 hour waits are over so its my turn to see how this hype spot does with brunch. First, damn this place is beautiful. Spacious and organicā€¦it feels like youā€™ve stepped into some zen warehouse. The plants and the decorations soften the space and really bring a sense of calm. I wish it was easier to talk though as it was quite echoey and hard to hear for a busy Saturday.

This place is more unique than it looks outside! The interior has a plant theme and has it well decorated around the place. The cafe is huge and the menu is interesting -mmm banana brulee waffles yummy!
Maya Soe
The place and service are amazing but unfortunately the food was disappointing.<br/>I ordered Banana BruleƩ Waffle and when it came it was only one (rather) small waffle, 1 banana cut in half with some "brulee", meringue, chocolate sauce, berries (blueberries & strawberries), ice cream ; for that I have to pay $22. It's quite overpriced imo.<br/>I dont know if I wanna give another try.<br/><br/>Food : 2/5<br/>Service : 4/5<br/>

Tried the beef brisket benedict, the beef brisket was super salty it was not enjoyable to eat anymore. But good thing the ambience was really nice.
Foodandwinefan
The cafe has a beautiful fit aloud and the staff are really friendly. The wait staff donā€™t write down orders which always makes me uneasy, and our waitress was no exception, getting our orders mixed up for both drinks and food. The service was reasonably quick but portions very small for prices. Coffee was great, once it finally arrived.
Chele
Beautiful interior design. But more importantly the food is the priority. The corn fritters were over cooked, hard as a rock, and extremely dry.

This large warehouse offers brunch with a beautiful array of greenery, terraniums and a nice blend of black and gold decorations. With lots of cooks working in the kitchen, their service was quick and all staff were exceptionally friendly. Their smoked salmon on toast was delicious. I did expect to have pieces of salmon on my toast, but the pureed salmon provided a patĆØ texture and tasted even better when combine with the fish roe and greens. Definitely recommend for an instagramable dine.

Finally came to try out this busy eatery and I must say the food was spot on.<br/>The atmophere, ambience and space was very welcoming.<br/>Service was great and the Para Chai Latte was lovely.<br/>My partner is a vegetarian and he appreciated that there are varieties of savory and sweet dishes available for him to pick from.<br/>

AU79 at Abbotsford. I should give a 4.5 but it is definitely not a 5 to me. Unfortunately Zomato turn off the half point. Only one reason food was too salty to me. Personally I really really like this cafe. Nice ambience and friendly staff with good service. Green decorations and bakery style is so beautiful. Coffee is particularly good And love the food. Only thing is that it is very salty. Not sure maybe just the dishes I ordered. Definitely will go back and try again. Love it.

An aesthetically pleasing place. Probably the most beautiful brunch place in Melbourne. Food came a little short though, the menu was what you usually get at brunch places nothing out of the ordinary. Wasn't too impressed by the food, but come for the insta pics I guess šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

This restaurant seats a LOT of people, it's very spacious although it can get a bit too warm during summer if you're seated in an area where the sun is more exposed.<br/><br/>Food wise - not bad. They get a bit 'too creative' with their plating (such as french fries in a potted plant which my mate dislikes a lot) but the overall taste of the food is quite good.<br/><br/>I like their pumpkin ricotta pasta and their big brekkie. Also, they serve quite a wide range of fresh juices which is a bonus!
Kris L
Absolutely gorgeous cafe, extremely spacious (donā€™t let the exterior deceive you) with pretty pink tables and lots of greenery. They also serve up great food and coffee and sweet treats!

After being told there would be a 25 minute wait we were finally seated after 45 minutes. Very busy cafe with great customer service, food was out within 20 minutes and was amazing.
Jo Yang
Pretty impressed with this place! First of all, theyā€™ve nailed the aesthetics (I love nature), and waiting staff are very efficient. <br/>Food wise, although the portion was on the smaller side, the flavours of the beef brisket were amazing. Hollandaise was quite heavy but worked well with the eggs (which were very runny, A+). Was a bit salty overall but just downed some water, no biggie. <br/><br/>Overall really happy with the food, would come back!

Au79 is a pretty popular cafe located in Abbotsford. Their menu is constantly changing every season, so you might find the menu on Zomato & their website to be different. The place itself was spacious and has modern decor, with wall art and plants. At first it may look small, but once you get inside, youā€™ll find other rooms located farther inside the cafe.<br/><br/>Au79 Burger<br/>Price: $20<br/>Taste: šŸŒšŸŒšŸŒšŸŒœ<br/>The presentation of the burger was plain, with just burger and fries. It was ok, like your average burger. However, I couldnā€™t taste the bacon in the burger. The fries were thin and a little soggy, definitely prefer crispier fries or wedges would be better, but overall it was ok.<br/><br/>Beef Brisket Benedict<br/>Price:<br/>Taste: šŸŒšŸŒšŸŒšŸŒ<br/>This dish was the best out of all of the dishes that we ordered. Although I wished there was more of the hash. The hash brown was flavourful, paired well with the beef brisket and the perfect poached egg. Definitely a favourite.<br/><br/>Linguine<br/>Price:<br/>Taste: šŸŒšŸŒšŸŒœ<br/>I couldnā€™t find the name for this one, since it is a new menu. This was my least favourite dish. The pasta was bland, didnā€™t really taste of anything. The bacon adds a nice salty flavour to the dish. Iā€™d recommend going for the other dish instead.<br/><br/>Banana Brulee Waffle<br/>Price: $20<br/>Taste: šŸŒšŸŒšŸŒ<br/>This dish was average. The waffle wasnā€™t crispy enough. I think I put too much of the chocolate sauce, it became a little bit overwhelming. The popping candy was a pretty nice surprise.<br/><br/>Matcha Latte<br/>Price: $4.5<br/>Taste: šŸŒšŸŒšŸŒ<br/>The matcha latte was a bit powdery. Iā€™d like the matcha flavour to be stronger. <br/><br/>Overall, Au79 was a bit of a disappointment for me. The food was average for me. The place was spacious and instagram-worthy, though. Worth a try, but I wonā€™t be coming back anytime soon.
Clare
Such a great venue! So light and spacious and beautifully decorated. Nice clean lines with soft hues and pretty flowers as decorations throughout. There was a bit of a line up but thatā€™s to be expected and worth it. The staff were helpful and attentive. The food was good though mine lacked a little flavour. Good portions and well thought out flavour combos. The coffee was decent too. Would happily recommend.
KLLYXNG
The interior is stunning, I loved the skylights, gold highlights and all the decor within. The food didnā€™t wow me on the same level though. The banana brĆ»lĆ©e waffle was a little disappointing as it came out as: a waffle, fruits, one meringue cut in half, a scoop of ice cream and sprinkled popping candy with a little side of dark chocolate sauce. My impression? Dry, and whatā€™s up with my banana? After flagging it with our lovely waitress, she came back and explained that their blowtorch was broken and that they couldnā€™t ā€˜brĆ»lĆ©eā€™ my banana. What kind of a restaurant only has one blowtorch?<br/>I was essentially eating a dry waffle with fruits and ice cream for $21. Luckily she told me that my dish would be discounted but I wouldā€™ve liked a heads up from the kitchen whilst receiving my dish or something as this really played down on my high hopes for this place. Another disappointing aspect was that their menu wasnā€™t updated and about a quarter of their website offerings werenā€™t available in house. I just checked the website and itā€™s still the old menu. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Came here on one Sunday brunch with some friends... it was busy and we had to que about 20 minutes. The decoration is very nice, leafy with so many green plants gives nice cozy ambience. Foods are average and coffee was a little weak. We had fried chicken burger, beef burger and homemade pasta. The best was the pasta. I gives 4 cos the ambience is really nice.

Great vibes and decent food. We love the light filled and spacious high ceiling space. The waffle dish is sensational and the benny dish is creative and tasty.

4.2<br/><br/>Classy well run place that Iā€™ve been keen to visit for ages. I wasnā€™t quite ready for how spacious it is. Itā€™s a huge place that seems to go on forever out the back. Itā€™s beautifully fitted out throughout and is lovely and stylish in every way. A most impressive space.<br/><br/>The menu is nicely balanced. Not too many choices which I usually like. My companion and I had one of the Bloody Marys before we chose a breakfast. While these took a while to come out they were well worth the wait and were lovely and appropriately spicy. <br/><br/>We both chose the salmon rillette for our main after an informative conversation with the manager. This is a really lovely dish. Itā€™s beautifully presented and has a deep tasting rillette on quality bread together with lovely salmon roe, nice greens, chopped avocado and radish. We both thought it was a top quality dish.<br/><br/>We had a beautiful coffee to finish. My long black was silky and gorgeous with superb length. <br/><br/>We had a variety of servers today. They were all lovely and efficient with the small exception of the delayed Bloody Mary at the start.<br/><br/>This is a very good cafe. It deserves its lofty rating.

I go to this cafe when I can<br/>I did visit recently with a friend from Geelong <br/>The coffee and food is beautiful <br/>I managed to fit in a gluten free chocolate brownie <br/>I had the chilli miso scrambled eggs with chargrilled broccoli - melted in my mouth but kept itā€™s shape <br/>I canā€™t wait to come back <br/>I prefer going during the week too

Not usually in the area but tried out the cafe cos of the reviews! What a beautiful cafe (huge too!) with lots of light and greenery. <br/><br/>Came here with my brunch connoisseur friend on a Thursday morning and it wasnā€™t busy. I ordered the beef brisket benedict which was tasty, but the pickled vegetables didnā€™t really complement the strong beefy flavour, in my opinion. I usually love benedict and beef is my favourite but the combination wasnā€™t as perfect as I imagined. My friend ordered poached eggs with a few sides - pretty big portions! <br/><br/>One thing I really didnā€™t enjoy was the coffee. It came out lukewarm. Second round I ordered it extra hot and it came out at the regular temperature. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø<br/><br/>Service was super friendly, but Iā€™m on the fence with this one.
An Antelope
Very beautiful and spacious cafe. I would come again for the ambience. The food was a bit hit-and-miss however, and so was the service. The banana brĆ»lĆ©e waffle and fried polenta were greatly enjoyed. The charred corn - not so much. We were presented with a chorizo pappardelle, but it turned out it wasnā€™t ours and taken away to another table. But it wasnā€™t for that that table either. So after several minutes it returned to our table. It was cold and the pasta was clumped together. The flavours were sadly unimpressive too. We brought this up, but we were in a hurry so we didnā€™t ask for a replacement. There were no apologies.
Tasting Notes Melbourne
Great coffee, beautiful greenery, colourful dishes and really genuine service. We came here on a Monday a while back. I ate their big breakfast which really hit the spot. i noticed on the menu a few things had a slightly Japanese/Korean twist. would love to come back and try some of the other items.. but on my visit i was super hungry and just saw the word BIG. A special point out, the man (middle aged) who served us was really good, professional and not over the top. It's a rarity to get this sort of service in cafes so I had to jot it down.

The PB & J french toast has to be one of the best things Iā€™ve eaten this year. Would happily eat the peanut butter & jelly stuffed brioche toast on its own but complemented with textural symphony that is whipped cream cheese, strawberries, strawberry puree and peanut brittle, itā€™s a surefire crowd-pleaser.

Yesterday I was at a function for lunch. The food and atmosphere was amazing. The staff was very friendly. The salmon I had for main was spectacular. Iā€™ll be back !!

Au79 is a little gem hidden on a laneway on Nicholson Street in Richmond. We have visited several times since our first and would love to share our experience especially our favorites!<br/><br/>Chili miso scrambled eggs - this was an interesting dish as you rarely find miso flavored scrambled eggs! Nonetheless, it was pretty delicious and the flavors worked really well with the charred cauliflower and the addition of the pork belly!<br/><br/>Forest waffle (available in previous menu) - this was my favorite dish for the day as the waffles were beautifully made and there was a sweet surprise hidden in the white egg (see pictures)! I was not expecting the egg to be filled with cream (if I recall)! This was a memory I would never forget!<br/><br/>Prawn linguine - I believe this was a lunch special during winter time and it was such a pleasurable dish! The prawns were fresh and the linguine was cooked just right! Donā€™t be fooled by how simple it looks as there is more than meets the eyes! šŸ‘€<br/><br/>PB & J French toast - another one of my favorites! Warning - only meant for sweet tooth lovers! The peanut butter and jam and was stuffed inside the toast and what made it better was the strawberry purĆ©e and peanut brittle which added that sweetness to the dish! Though very sweet, I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it!<br/><br/>Truffle scrambled eggs - it was truffle season and boy was I happy to get this in my last visit! Though the truffle was sprinkled on top of the egg, I could actually taste it whilst it was melting into my mouth! I would say it was definitely worth getting if itā€™s still available!<br/><br/>Overall, Au79 is a wonderful cafe that provides many food choices and also a very beautiful and spacious decor which a lot of cafes do not have the luxury of! Well done guys! Canā€™t wait to try your other dishes!

I am just feel like walking in a beautiful rain forest garden when I stepped in the cafe. The environment makes me feel exciting. Every view is a gorgeous picture. I quite enjoyed sitting in it. They make the pasta in the cafe freshly. The food taste delicious, but I think the taste of the foods in three full bags 30 meters away from this cafe are better. The desert here is excellent. I like it so much that I will come back.

This cafe/bakery/coffee roaster in Abbotsford has one of my favourite interiors - itā€™s a big space with a high ceiling and best of all, there are plants every where making you feel like youā€™re in a botanical garden. It does get really busy here but once youā€™re in, itā€™s usually prompt service and staff are friendly and attentive. The coffee here is delicious; fragrant and smooth. In terms of the food, Iā€™ve come here a couple of times before and itā€™s great to see the ever-changing menus with so much variety. But I must say that I was a little sad to see the food standard drop in my latest visit. My boyfriend ordered the ā€˜Peanut butter and jam French toastā€™. It was okay, just a little too heavy on the sweet side with not much to balance the flavour. The ā€˜Banana BrĆ»lĆ©e waffleā€™ would have been fantastic had it not been for the actual waffle that was almost rock hard as soon as it was served to us. My boyfriend and I tried to finish the waffle until we just gave up... The raspberry sorbet was yummy though! I can imagine what it should have tasted like had the waffle been crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Anyway, it was really nice of our waiter to come back and offer us a complimentary pastry.

Nice sitting up place. However the pasta was so bland and no taste. Coffee was nice, honey soy chicken was good but not special. Service was alright, will give another try.

* You might be located in the Herion capital of Victoria but you changed my perspective of Abbotsford in such a good way. <br/>* Such a stunning cafe loved the decor. Plants plants plants made city living stress levels decline instantly. <br/>* Coffee 10/10 and food was not far behind <br/><br/>Visited this place on a Tuesday morning and was given a booth in the middle section. I loved the booth and fell in love with the decor instantly. The greenery in this cafe is a stroke of Genius, who needs to visit the botanical gardens when you can come here. <br/>Donā€™t stress if you visit on a weekend, itā€™s a massive cafe and lots of seating options. The coffee was amazing, the house blend is made on the premises. This cafe has a bakery and loads of yummy pastries on offer. You want something more grab a big breakfast or some amazing waffles . I would have given this place a 5 however, the only disappointment for me was my son has food allergies and I felt the kitchen was a little ill prepared for anyone who had food allergies. The kitchen gave no guidance. I asked the staff if they could ask the kitchen what he could have based on his walnut and dairy allergy to be told Nothing. I did feel upset and helpless as I canā€™t eat in front of a 2 year old while he watches us. the amazing waiter came up with a solution he advised the fruit toast was not made in the kitchen . Problem solved, it would have been nice if the Kitchen helped I know not many places want this risk but we live in Melbourne and so many Cafes have this covered amazingly well.

Food: Our table tried a few different dishes that were good. I specially liked the iced mocha.<br/><br/>Ambience: Little world of it's own! Au79 is nicely decorated with a nice mix of green plants and flowers, and the visible coffee machine(?). Whole place screams "take photos of me for Instagram"<br/><br/>Service: Head of waitstaff, the gentleman with the table list, was friendly and a lovely chap.Ā <br/>However as we came on a Sunday morning around 10am, had to wait 20mins for a table.. and later another 35 mins for our food to arrive.

I really enjoyed my breakfast here and love the look of this cafe. I usually come here weekly for a coffee as itā€™s always packed for breakfast. My favorite dish to date was the Vegemite and cheese spring roll (I still think about it)

Environment is 5, food and service is 3. It truly look fantastic. But waited more than 30 minutes for food when itā€™s not full house. Other table who came later than us got the food earlier. Salad - requested dressing on a side, came with full dressing not on a side. Pappardelle - tasted rather bland. Should have ordered burger they look amazing on the other table......

Beautiful and spacious environment, a number of spaces to be seated - very good for groups..<br/>Wait staff were very friendly and we were greeted with a platter of sourdough bread to snack on whilst we waited for a table..<br/>We didnā€™t have food this time round as we wanted to try the seasonal king fish however it wasnā€™t available so we settled for some coffees instead..<br/>Overall great ambience and good coffees.. definitely will come back soon.. <br/>

Aesthetic brunch spot with innovative menu.<br/><br/>Ambience: The place is pretty big, with quite lots of seats. They're not crampy which is good and most importantly the place looks really nice, or aesthetic to better put it, with lots of plants decoration, and soft colors. It was a Saturday noon so the place was packed and there was quite a line.<br/><br/>Service: When i arrived, some people were already queueing, I was greeted by a friendly man and he asked if I was okay waiting for another 20 mins, which I was okay with. Just as my friend arrived (abt 20mins later), we were seated. The staffs were all very friendly, and they were nice to suggest drinks and dishes. Food came out after somw wait, but reasonable with so many people.<br/><br/>Food: Their Soy Chai Latte was bomb. Served with honey on the side (as recommended), it was not too strong nor weak, was milky and smooth and the honey made it soo yum.<br/><br/>Pumpkin linguine was yum as well. The pasta was cooked beautifully, with the right bite to it. The sauce was creamy but not overempowering, a harmony of sweet and salty. The pumpkin and walnuts were pretty generous and they add great flavors and texture to the noodle which i love!<br/><br/>Banana brule waffle was a pretty good dish too. Waffle was nicely made, crispy outside and chewy and soft inside. I like the toppings that come with it as well, banana was caramelized, with rasberry sorbet, some fresh strawberries, meringue and chocolate sauce on the side. It is though too sweet for my likings, i would prefer if the sorbet is substituted with mascarpone or something less sweet instead, and i'm not a fan of the popping candy inside the waffle.<br/><br/>Price: reasonable prices for brunch and the quality of the food.<br/><br/>YUM: pumpkin linguine<br/>NAH: none<br/><br/>photos: pumpkin linguine, banana brule waffle, soy chai with honey<br/><br/>( follow for more!āœØ)<br/><br/>ļ½˜ļ½˜ļ¼Œļ½Šļ½ļ½…ļ½Œļ½Œļ½….

A beautiful cafe, great food but a few issues.<br/><br/>We were seated at the back, there was a strong smell of fish and we were told there was nowhere for us to move. Service was slow.<br/><br/>Scrambled eggs with truffle was delicious, Breakfast greens were incredibly salty.<br/><br/>Would give it another as the menu is great and hope to lift the rating.

I havenā€™t had the pleasure of dining in at Au79, however I have purchased some takeaway sweet treats and absolutely loved them. <br/>I love peanut butter and the PBJ Sā€™mores Macaroon did not disappoint. So yum. <br/>I have also tried the berry cheesecake, lemon meringue tart and the autumn caramel dome. <br/>All were nice but the standout was the caramel dome. It has a beautiful caramel flavour with a hint a spice (Iā€™m assuming this comes from the roast pumpkin) - so good!<br/><br/>The lady who served me was really nice and wasnā€™t bothered when I was being indecisive about which cakes I wanted to buy. <br/>I would return to buy more treats or to dine in for breakfast or lunch one day!

Very cool restaurant, the design is unlike anything I've seen and that is quite unusual in Melbourne these days! Everywhere you look, there's something lovely to see. The coffee and food are also amazing here. Will be back for sure.

Would I return? Willingly!<br/> <br/>It all happens here at Au79 - coffee roasting, bread baking, patisserie, chocolatier, cafĆ© and function space. The venue, which sits 200 people, is beautifully decorated with greenery. Feels calming, relaxing and is a happy place to be. If you visit during the weekends you'll have to wait, but it was worth it, and I found that they don't seat you unless they can attend to you right away, even if there are empty tables. I prefer that to waiting for service that never arrives.<br/> <br/>This cafe has much to offer in terms of food. Huge menu with tasty, well presented dishes. I initially thought it was a little overpriced when ordering but after eating it was worth every cent. My partner in crime and I ordered the Beef Pappardelle which had well cooked pasta with generous amounts of meat worthy of a product of any good Italian Restaurant. And the Chilli Miso Scrambled Eggs. They were so balanced and creamy just to die for. The charred Broccoli balanced out the flavours perfectly. To drink we had a Long Black, Matcha latte and orange juice ā€“ all beautiful. Freshly squeezed orange juice gets a big tick along with the well balanced Matcha which is hard to find. Coffee was good but not outstanding.<br/> <br/>Service? A bunch of really friendly folk running the show.<br/>Wrap up: Amazing space to catch up with friends anytime over a lovely meal.

3.5 āļø enjoyed breakfast here. The porridge was very nice but I was only able to have a small amount because it was quite heavy (made with coconut milk and the porridge was dense). I prefer my porridge to be a little loose and milky ( whether that be cows milk šŸ˜± or an alternative: almond etc). The oats still had some bite to them which was nice and the dish wasnā€™t too sweet. Other dishes ordered were scrambled eggs with a side of bacon. Coffee was enjoyable. Noise levels are high and street parking is minimal
P.W
We were quoted 20 minutes wait for a table for 3. We were also told that was a conservative quote as the venue sits 200 people and it could even be 10-15 minutes. We turned down offers from waiting list at other cafes nearby, on the assumption that we would be waiting 20 minutes. Well over 1 hour later, they were still unable to provide us a table. Very inaccurate estimation of waiting time, and we ended up having nothing due to it being too late.

AU79 was our most favorite cafe, but due to recent changes in their menu, I do not recommend it anymore. What a pity! (The attached pic is Okonomiyaki, not available anymore in their menu)

Beautifully decorated with greenery. Feels calming and relaxing.<br/>Corn fritter: good combination and choice of pairing. Bacon was a little bit dry<br/>Smoked salmon and avocado: found fish bone... however it was a tasty dish.<br/>Juice: The metal straws are pretty cool but they were disgusting. Definitely needs to be cleaned with care. Thinking about the straws really grossed me out. Lucky, I saw the dirty straw before drinking through it. <br/><br/>Food: 3.5<br/>Service: 3.5<br/>Ambiance: 4<br/><br/>Would I come back to AU79? Yes, potentially<br/>Would I recommend to family and friends? Yes, itā€™s beautifully decorated and food was not too bad. Just the wait time was a bit long (average wait time during brunch period on the weekends are minimum 30-45 minutes)

Au79 has been on my to go list for a while now and I finally made a visit recently! First of all, the aesthetics of this cafe is simply wow. šŸŒ· It is no wonder it is on the list of the most instagrammable cafes! The presentation of the food was amazing as well! However, the menu did not excite me much ā˜¹ļø! There were limited choices and none of the dishes really strayed away from the typical eggs on toast šŸ³šŸž. We went up in a group of 5 but ended up only ordering 3 different dishes. Additionally, I find it slightly overpriced for the amount we were paying. Even though it was generally in the below 20 range, it was not a satisfying meal to say the least. Definitely not the best I had, but also not the worst! Would come back just to take some cute pictures though! šŸ“·

Iā€™d been wanting to try Au79 for a while on the recommendation of many people and it certainly didnā€™t disappoint. We went on a weekday for brunch to avoid the queues and got a table straight away, seated in a comfortable corner booth near the window which was lovely and light/bright. Food was delicious - I got the kingfish ceviche which was beautifully presented and absolutely mouthwatering - an inspired mix of fresh flavours and textures. I initially thought it was a little overpriced when ordering but after eating it was worth every cent!

Unfortunately this place did not quite live up to the hype. The decor and service are fantastic. The juice was really nice. Sadly, the food and coffee let this place down. The fritters were dry, the coffee was average, and the breakfast lacked flavour and mine had a full tomato that was virtually uncooked on the plate. I feel like that they might delete this review to keep their rating.

4.5 out of 5<br/><br/>Well-deserved ratings!<br/><br/>Ā Au79 is just a beautiful place, with beautiful service, genuinely friendly staff, amazing food and sweets. If you visit during the weekends you'll have to wait, but it was worth it, and I found that they don't seat you unless they can attend to you right away, even if there are empty tables. I prefer that to waiting for a service that never arrives.<br/><br/>I had one of the specials of the day, and what a dish!, utterly fresh, creative cooking, beautifully plated, generous portion, yummy and exciting, and at the same prices you find elsewhere. <br/><br/>I have also tried theirĀ  citrus custard and meringue tartlet. Understated wowiness: flavoursome light custard and meringue, fantastic crumbly base. <br/><br/>I know they specialise in coffee, but I found the mix of beans used for mine, nothing for me.Ā  Coffee was well prepared and good, it is just that I prefer coffees that taste less fruity. <br/><br/>Their Jasmine pearl isĀ  fantastic.<br/><br/>The vibe of the place is great, the decor and spaceness. <br/><br/>I don't score them a 5 because I thought the dish I ate was mostly a summer dish and not for the cold winter we are having in Melbourne. <br/><br/>I'll be back.

I have to say Au 79 delivers fantastic customer service. Staffs are friendly and make you feel like you're the dearest customer. <br/>We're there for brunch. I ordered latte and earl grey, kimchi egg Benedict was recommended by a staffs. I was given 1 free matcha latte, which was a lovely matcha latte I ever tried. However, I cannot say I like their coffee. It has a strong burned smell. I would be happy to pay $5 for a small size ( 100ml only) if it tasted nice, unfortunately, their latte is the worst I ever tried. <br/>Kimchi egg Benedict is a good East meet West meal. It's combination of poached eggs, hollandaise sauce on the bed of kimchi, mushrooms and 2 slices of toasted bread. I rate this one 3.5 stars. <br/>Matcha latte is a must-tried drink, lovely matcha smell, not to sweet but full of richness of milk. <br/><br/>I also had 1 almond croissant for take away. I have to say it disappointed me. First of all, it makes me feel like old croissant from 2 days ago. It comes with custard fillings inside and dusted with caster sugar outside, which makes me feel like I'm gonna have diabetes soon. But if you have sweet tooth, go ahead. <br/>In the nutshell, customer service: 5/5 <br/>Egg Benedict meal: 3.5/5 <br/>Matcha latte: 4.7/5<br/>Croissant: 2/5 <br/>Latte: 2/5

We used to really enjoy our food at Au 79, visit there weekly and also recommend to friends this place. Sadly, they just changed the chef, the food ā€œwasā€ very good, in terms of flavour and also presentation. Now their dishes we used to enjoy taste just not good anymore, lack of flavour, bad presentation. Portions are much smaller. We were extremely disappointed when we saw our food came to our table. The scrambled eggs were much smaller and drizzle a lot of oils on the top which is very disgusting to me. I also order a side of mushrooms which was over cooked and small portion ( for $6!!!! What??). The flavour was very good too and perfect cooked scrambled, now they are just normal scrambled eggs which you can easily cook at home by yourself. They also changed the menu and took away chicken burger which is such a bad idea. We ordered Au burger instead, the burger tasted just very normal, you wonā€™t want to come back from it. We still have hope to see they make better changes, maybe get the previous chef back? Good thing about this cafe is service is still very good and also coffee. A manager there was trying to make up for us, however, bad food is really hard for customers to come back, no matter how good service is.

Absolutely love this place. Been here a few times now, and these guys know how to serve. Never had to wait for more than 10min for a table no matter how busy it is, they are consistent in food, coffee and service. Love it. Can't speak highly enough. Miss the kimchi hollandaise in the menu, bring it back plssss šŸ™

My friends and I have been eager to visit Au79 for months, and finally got to visit the unique cafĆ© for brunch. Au79 exceeds expectations in all aspects - from its incredibly aesthetic look, its exceptionally friendly staff, its delicious food, and even the concept of turning a warehouse into a greenhouse-style cafĆ©. Not only does it offer yummy food and brilliant aesthetics - its large warehouse means functions, large kitchen capacity (faster food!) and even its very own bakery.<br/><br/>As for the food, we ordered the hash, banana brĆ»lĆ©e waffle, PB & J French toast, chorizo pappardelle and breakfast green. I particularly enjoyed the banana brĆ»lĆ©e waffle and chorizo pappardelle - the waffle was delicious - I loved the raspberry and fruits which were on top of a VERY crispy waffle - all without being too sweet or overwhelming in flavour. On the side was a pot of chocolate dipping/pouring sauce to use at my own discretion. The chorizo pappardelle was also fine tuned to perfection - really enjoyed the pasta and sausages - however the sauce may have been slightly too salty. Really enjoyed the food nonetheless. To drink, we had the Very Berry smoothie and a matcha latte.<br/><br/>This is my first ever 5-star review - really loved the place from head to toe. Whether youā€™re looking for a sweet treat or somewhere to have an aesthetic Instagram photo shoot, this is truly the place to be! Will most certainly be back to try more of its fine seasonal menu. Thanks Au79!!

This cafe has so much to offer in terms of food. Huge menu with tasty, generous, well presented dishes. Service is often efficient and baby friendly with high chairs and a change table but brunch is often a family affair so lacking a kids menu and items not amenable to alteration makes this cafe shy of perfect. They do do a good babycino though. <br/><br/>Beef parppadelle: tasty, well cooked pasta with generous amounts of meat worthy of a product of any good Italian restaurant. Good dish for the kids to share but rather pricey on return visit if you want to try something else. <br/>Truffle croque madame and truffle scrambles are certainly lovely decadent treat of a sandwich and eggs on toast with distinct truffle flavours. Enough to share with a sweet treat to finish. Waffles were nice and crispy but raspberry sorbet rather tart and an ice cream might be a better pairing. Daily muffins have good amount of filling and recommended for a small treat. Donuts are worth the calories too. <br/><br/>Lots of drink options are very good and commendable for using reusable straws.

Finding a place to have brunch in Melbourne can be very challenging.. since there are wayyy too many spots. Me and my friend came here on Saturday at 12:30 and had to wait for 20-25 mins. The staff was really welcoming and nice so waiting time was not really painful. Decoration and space was on point, full mark!! We order a Hash and Au79 Big Breakfast (I will name them in the photos). The portion of Big Breakie was so huge (as an Asian girl I still managed to finish all tho) so I think it should be able to keep you full from morning until noon. I love their hash potato so much! So crispy on the outside!! Also Chorizo is definitely my favorite, a little bit salty and a little bit spicy, perfect!! But I felt like the grilled tomato had too strong oily smell. If the tomato smelt less oily I would have given them a 5/5.

Definitely a must visit when in Melbourne! Au79 is more than a cafe, they sell their own bread made inhouse, you can rent it out for functions, they do high teas and you can given buy the plants they have around the cafe! Order the pumpkin linguine it is delicious.

The interior design of this place is one of the best I've ever seen. I cannot fault with it at all- it's absolutely amazing! The greenery and cute little booths were two standouts in the design. I wish this place was a little closer to my place, so I could visit it more often.Ā <br/><br/>I ordered the smoothie bowl, which was a little on the sour side, the flavours combined together make it a really fun dish. It definitely ticks all the aesthetic boxes!Ā <br/><br/>I would definitely recommend this place to absolutely anyone living in Melbourne. The prices are really reasonable, and they do spilt bills, which makes it even better with friends!

An adorable cafe in Abbotsford that really captivates! I was lucky to visit on a weekday and around middday, so there were no worries with waiting times and lines. (I have heard that Au79 gets pretty crowded on weekends.)<br/><br/>Food: priced set as like with other cafes. Menu is lovely and really well set out. Food doesn't take too long to arrive. As soon as the food arrived, I was very impressed with the presentation. Majestic. Top-notch. I'm not sure if they still have my dishes in the pictures attached, as I cannot see them on their Zomato menu. But asides from that, the eggs benedict was superb and really went well with the succulent mushrooms and the exquisite kimchi! Yes I said it.... Kimchi! Ingenious! <br/>We also tried the standard scrambled eggs, and they were so fluffy and wonderful. <br/>The dish to finish off our visit was a waffle with white chocolate and berries (sorry, I don't think it's on the menu- correct me if I'm wrong.) The waffle is just perfect, the white chocolate is not too sweet and really binds everything else together. Berries are fresh and the little parts of raspberry jelly are great! <br/><br/>Customer service: really kind is all I have to say. Well-mannered and were sure to check if we were ok with everything. <br/><br/>Atmosphere: beautiful decorations and layout. Nice, calm, serene, friendly vibes which are perfect for mornings or brunches with friends and family. The little plants also offer a natural, peaceful feeling. <br/><br/>Overall, a great brunch cafe. Definitely in my top 5 for best cafes in Victoria.
The Food Book
Was a bit confused after reading reviews from Zomato about this place because the items didn't appear on menu as expected. Ended up going with the signature burger, parpadelle and the polenta. Definitely do recommend the parpadelle and serving is quite generous. Love the ambience and how open the space is as well as the amazing service.

Never have we had a bad meal or service at au79. Today was no different starting with the attention at the front door to our super friendly/attentive UK member of waitstaff to our comfy booth, to our delicious food šŸ˜‹. It was a 10/10 experience thank you šŸ™šŸ¼

So yesterday was the second time we visited Au79. Busy as expected, but I cannot fault their hospitality. Considering how busy they get, the managing/host staff seem to have the patience of saints. Even with giant prams...<br/><br/>Food was mainly on par with the slightly better offerings of Melbourne, but their chilli scramble was a bit heavy-handed with the salt. Again. The same happened a couple weeks before.<br/><br/>Yes, the indoor greenery is a running theme, but towering birds of paradise and fiddle figs never really get old. Lovely decor, good ambience decent level of service. Enjoyable.<br/><br/>Be wary of peak times. The wait is noticeable, and while there is a nice standing/wait area, it gets congested quickly when a lot of people are waiting.

Maybe what I ordered wasnā€™t that great, but I was really expecting proper corn fritters that were pan sized flat not in balls. burger was amazing, just need sauce!<br/>Aside from that everything about AU79 was spectacular, staff, atmosphere and the variety of bakery goods were amazing! You could tell that a lot of effort was put into this cafe.<br/>Would definitely return to try something else on the menu!<br/>Take your lover, friends and family here for an outstanding experience.

One of Melbourneā€™s most iconic cafes, known for its huge venue and stunning interior. From the outside, it doesnā€™t look like much, but as you step through the open doors, be prepared to enter a whole new world of brightness, greenery, and pastel colours. It truly is a warehouse transformed into a wonderland! <br/><br/>There is a nice variety on the all day menu, comprising of both breakfast and lunch dishes. We tried the Banana BrĆ»lĆ©e Waffle, PB&J French Toast, Beef Pappardelle, Hash, and Breakfast Greens. The waffle was definitely one of the highlight dishes - perfectly crispy waffle base, light and airy meringue shards, and a refreshing raspberry sorbet created a concoction of deliciousness! The pappardelle was cooked perfectly al dente and the creaminess of the raw yolk brought everything together. The French toast was also delicious - the crunchy candy peanut brittle made it very fun to eat!<br/><br/>The staff were also very friendly and accommodating, and our request for booth seating was easily attended to. I like that this place offers bookings so you donā€™t have to wait in line for ages like some other popular cafes!<br/><br/>Overall, itā€™s definitely a place worth checking out, for both the beautiful venue and the delicious food. I will definitely be coming back to try more!

Au79 - one of my go-to brunch spots! Am usually a brunch-place hopper but this place has a special charm that would lure me back again and again! I have tried quite a few dishes and I can say that they are delicate and delicious (other than those that I posted in this review).Ā <br/><br/>The ingredients used were always fresh and dishes were presented aesthetically. Their big yet just-nice portion has earned some brownie points too! They also serve homemade cakes and pastries, wrapped up in beautiful boxes if you were to do takeaways.<br/><br/>Also, if you are a green-hunter, you would love the design of this brunch place! Modern, minimal and plant-filled. Do drop by if you happen to be in Abbotsford area!
The Fo0die
Note that thefo0die.com rating is a 4.5 but in Zomato's rating system, it is closer to a 4.<br/><br/> Fo0die dined as a guest of Au79 courtesy of LivenPay and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.Ā <br/><br/>Arriving at 1pm on a Sunday, we found parking on Langridge Street which was 4P Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sundays. Parking along Nicholson Street, where the venue is located, was also 4P. And if you get desperate, there is ticketed parking and paring at Aldi nearby.

This place was on my list for a long time. I finally got there and it lived up to my expectations. <br/>1. You can book<br/>2. Host was lovely<br/>3. Decor is awesome <br/>4. Food and coffee is tasty<br/>5. Service is spot on<br/><br/>Other cafes take notes.

Au79 is a really nice, open and spacious cafe! There was a small line at the door when we arrived, but we got seated pretty quickly.<br/><br/>We ordered Au79 burger and the market fish for lunch. Both tasted really good, fresh and the burger was a such a generous portion! The only let down for me was my cappuccino. It was a bit cold and weak. Other than that, the service was great and I am keen to try other things on the menu!

Heard this cafe very popular. Finally tried this one today. Very beautiful venue. Full of green plants. The food are really nice and tasty. Service is great. A new couple is making photos for their wedding, I think itā€™s a good place to go.

Exciting menu with plenty for everyone. <br/>The food was enjoyable. Personally I found the spicy beans on toast to not be particularly spicy however couldnā€™t fault the poached eggs which were highly consistent and perfectly runny across the table. The sourdough bread was also excellent. <br/>The staff were relatively friendly, a few lost coffee orders but otherwise no issues with ordering etc. <br/>I give it a 3/5 because I probably wouldnā€™t go for 4 just based on a few minor things as previously mentioned and a few things which rubbed me the wrong way particularly when we were basically told to leave despite clearly picking ourselves up to go. <br/>However, in saying that, I would probably come back because the meal sizes were generous and the food undeniably very good and enjoyed across the board.

This is the 2nd time I have been to AU79 and again I was disappointed. Staff was friendly. Coffee took 15 min to arrive, food is another 20 min wait. Coffee was just ok by Melbourne standards. Ordered the AU79 burger and patty was dry and overcooked. Fries were the best part of this meal. My wifeā€™s truffle scramble eggs were not so impressive.
Stefani Shi
Waited for half an hour to be seated and another 30 mins to be served.<br/>It seems that the food was forgotten sadly. However it is nice to get the discount for waiting so much time(free coffee).<br/>Good atmosphere.
Quince And Cheese
This cafe is massive! It's designed with a contemporary, minimalist fit out and lots of indoor plants. The coffee is great, as expected. Beans are sold on site for diners to take home. The menu is not cheap, but super innovative and seems to provide good value for money (at least based upon what I ordered). I tried the spicy beans on toast with haloumi and eggs. My partner got the hash, also served with haloumi. We left stuffed and satisfied (: Au79 definitely lives up to its hype.

It is a super lively and unique place to eat. We got the waffle, which was done really well and had an excellent crispy bottom. It came with chocolate sauce, and a sour tangy sorbet type of ice cream. We also got the AU breakfast, their hash brown was super crispy and not dry, the chutney type sauce they had paired nicely with the bacon and the egg. I am not a huge fan of mushrooms at all, but they made their mushrooms absolutely delightful. They do not have set times for the menu so you can grab breakfast and or lunch at any point of the day. It was a reasonable wait for a table and our meal, but for sure worth it. My cousin and I had our stomachs satisfied & their selection of bread is simply amazing! The cafe is also really easy to get to by tram.

The name, a combination of theĀ symbol and atomicĀ number for gold, gives a hint about the ambition shown here, there isĀ an in-house coffee roastery, self-contained bakery andĀ a retail space. TheĀ atmosphere is so nice, bright and full of plants.Foods is fantastic ,quick service and staffs very attentive .

Always wanted to try this place, finally managed to drop by to get a takeaway. The coffee was nice and hot for the winter weather with fruity and nutty flavour, quite impressed. I will definitely come back to try the food next time. <br/> Came back here the next day for lunch! This place was huge, being a cafe/bakery/coffee roaster and a contemporary design dining room, impressive! We ordered and tried the following:<br/><br/>1) Pine mushroom, cheese polenta, hash with fresh WA black truffle - an interesting mix, with the cheesy polenta tasted like truffled mashed potato, quite nice indeedĀ <br/><br/>2) Miso scrambled eggs - I noted quite a number of people liked this combo but I personally think it was ok, not a great mix. The roasted broccoli was nice.Ā Ā <br/><br/>3) Poached egg, Halloumi, smoked salmon with hash - everything tasted good here.<br/><br/>If I wanted to pick on something, I would say some of the sourdough was toasted a little too long which made the bread crust quite tough to eat. The coffee was great, same as the takeaway yesterday!

A really great cafe! This place has one of my favourite interiors in Melbourne. Massive, bright, open, airy and full of greenery. <br/>The miso scramble was a highlight for me, with a side of pork belly it was a hearty, filling, satisfying dish. <br/>The peach cobbler was another highlight for the those who want something sweet with their brunch. <br/>The Tropical Forest Waffles were next level, perfect waffle with a delicious combo of lemongrass and raspberry parfait, lychees, fresh berries, meringue, passionfruit purĆ©e and standout butterscotch sauce. <br/>I was on a big table and everything that everyone ordered looks delicious and decent portions too. This is one of Melbourneā€™s newest and best!<br/>Thanks for having us!!

Came here for brunch with a friend and the atmosphere is very nice and love the high ceilings. My friend ordered the scrambled eggs and I had the waffles. Both dishes were amazing, but the waffles were a little over and dry. Overall I would come back again

Pretty disappointing experience! First of all, the coffee was weak in flavor and well below Melbournian standards. The food was ok but not overwhelming. The staff was nice, but pretty unorganized. The atmosphere could be nice with all the plants, but the guy in charge at the front door left the door wide open at all times which made us feel like we were sitting in a wind channel. Absolutely overrated place!
Cindy Tandiono
So goooood I love it. The waffles are really good, very crispy. The meringue is so airy! The sorbet is really nice- a bit too sweet but still really good. Ans the hot choc caramel sauce is heaven. The salmon was really good too! Just wished there's mushroom in the sourdough but overall it's great. Would definitely come again x

We visited here for an early morning breakfast and were fairly happy.<br/><br/>Staff were very warm and welcoming on arrival.<br/><br/>We sat in the front area even though there are 3 areas to sit in and this was not cramped and pretty spacious as well as the ambience which is fresh but modernly rustic if that makes sense.<br/><br/>I had the big breakfast which was really nice, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomato, potato hash all cooked very well.I asked for my eggs to be scrambled instead....<br/><br/>Coffee was ok but could be a bit hotter....<br/><br/>My partner had corn fritters with poached eggs which she enjoyed but wasnā€™t a fan of the mushrooms....<br/><br/>All in all a nice cafe to visit with very nice staff and a relaxed feel to it...<br/><br/>We will be back ...

4.5Ā <br/><br/>I came here on a busy Saturday for the first time and was in awe at how large and beautiful the venue was .Ā <br/><br/>We tried 4 dishes between the 3 of us :Ā  The chorizo parpadelleĀ  which was absolutely delicious , pasta cooked al dente and abosrbed the chorizo flavour so well, the creaminess of the raw egg yolk mixed through was just fantastic, you could tell the pasta was made fresh on the daily.Ā <br/><br/>The fried chicken burger was defs a winner amongst the table, the chicken was juicy and succulent and paired with french fries there was no way this dish could fail.Ā The miso scrambled eggs was one of my favorite dishes, the miso added a rich flavour to the eggs and it paired really nicely with the cauliflower. We added a souv vide pork belly which was delicious but I do with that the skin could of been crackling insteadĀ <br/><br/>The white forrest waffles , the coconut mousse, and the white chocolate caramel was a match made in heaven, paired with fresh fruit and fluffy waffles it was a great way to end the mealĀ <br/><br/>All in all we had a great time at Au79, the service was quite fast for the amount of people and how large the venue was and the staff were also extremely friendly too !Ā <br/><br/>Thanks for having us !
Emily Lawrence
Probably the most beautiful place to eat in Melbourne. It has such an atmosphere. We eat here most weekends, and the food is usually good - because the venue is so large and they are catering to so many people, the quality varies every time we go. The fresh bread is a must though.

psst fun fact<br/>chemical name for gold is aurum and the number is 79<br/>surprised? me too<br/><br/>For those of you who haven't tried this cafe yet, we can only say... YOU SHOULD!!!<br/><br/>even we are so excited to review this place.Ā Ā <br/>if you really enjoy to hangout with friends while taking photos and accompanied with good food of course., it's the right place to be<br/><br/>the place has a very nice interior and friendly staff, not forget to mention that it's very spacious as well. (one of the largest cafe in melbourne perhaps). GReat natural lighting also makes it very comfortable to sit in.<br/><br/>aigh aight guys lets go to the food<br/>PandašŸ¼šŸ¼šŸ¼<br/>our main higlight is the white forest waffle .. definitely the best waffle we've taste so far.<br/>soft inside, crispy outside, not too buttery, with a very nice dough consistency and taste.. we are willing just to eat the waffle without the berries. but with all the other component makes it a 5 star dish<br/><br/>FIsh of the day and the beef cheek from chef's special also deserved to get attention. we always appreciate brunch cafe that give rotation to their menu and chef's special. We were lucky to get salmon and beef cheek. Both dish were perfectly cooked with great choice of sides<br/><br/>all of the dish were plated beautifullyĀ <br/><br/>In conclusion, this is one of the best cafe you have to try in melbourne :)<br/>well done au79 and hope to get back here soon

At first glance the interior space was super cool and spacious! The staff were lovely and welcoming. The menu offered too many interesting options to pick from but we tried the scrambled eggs, full of flavour , great textures and is perfectly paired with the roast cauliflower. The only disappointment was the 4$ for the tiny piece of pork belly. My husband had the big breakfast and loved it! The relish gives it a good burst of flavour. The cake cabinet had so many yummy and interesting options but we had the raspberry cheesecake and choc/ caramel tart which was the perfect ending to a lovely brunch!!

Ambience: 4.5/5<br/>Food: 4/5<br/>Staff: 4/5<br/>Will I return: Yes <br/><br/>Visited Au79 for a late Sunday lunch. It wasnā€™t too crowded so was seated by staff quickly. Unfortunately we were seated right in front of the kitchen, so the air quality wasnā€™t the best as we could smell the cooking oils and smoke the whole time we were there. Au79 is a big restaurant with lots of greenery inside which makes it a really enjoyable space. <br/>Staff are friendly and quite prompt with service. Between the two of us, we ordered a matcha latte, chorizo pasta and a rhubarb cobbler to share. <br/><br/>The matcha latte was nice and not too sweet. The chorizo pasta was superb. The thick pasta was cooked al dente and the flavours worked really well together with the added spring onions and olives. What we were afraid of the most for this dish is the chorizo being way too salty, but it wasnā€™t in this case. Instead it had a lovely flavour and was just the right amount of saltiness. <br/>The rhubarb cobbler although good, was overly sweet for us. It also lacked a crunchy element and everything tasted really mushy. There were traces of pomegranates and some crumble, but the crumble was not crunchy. Wouldā€™ve given the food a 5 Star if the cobbler dish was a bit more well balanced. <br/><br/>Overall an enjoyable late lunch and will glad return and bring friends to try. <br/>

Really love the space, the atmosphere and the food. We had to wait for about 10 minutes and it was worth it. I had the waffle which was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and my friend had the avo on toast. Soo good! Really wanna go back.

I donā€™t know how long I have been craving to try Au79 since their launch. First impression was the excellent interior, well designed and brings a warmth and comfort with all the greens and coffee accessory display. It is such a big cafe that they have an on site bakery, coffee roasting room and a retail area. We were fortunately enough to arrive a tad earlier before the lunch rush hour. The staff are extremely friendly and offered to explain the coffee menu in much detail to which a coffee lover definitely loves. The service was very efficient.Ā <br/><br/>We started with a warm cappuccino made with Midas coffee beans and their daily Batch Brew. The batch brew for the day was made with Ethiopia beans which brought out a jasmine, honey and lemon flavour, definitely worth a try. As for mains, the Kimchi Veg Benedict was definitely overloaded with fresh kimchi. Unlike regular hollandaise egg benedicts, Au79 specially designed a fusion-style dish using Koreaā€™s red pepper paste, gochujang, to make their hollandaise sauce. Definitely a good change! The free range eggs on the other hand could do with some extra seasoning or sauce to make up the flavour. From their lunch menu is the Chorizo Pappardelle. With their house made strands of pappardelle, the dish delivered a rich flavoursome buttery base cooked with chorizo, croutons and grant pandano. The Au79 burger was quite popular as several tables around us had also ordered it. The juiciness from the wagyu beef patty and bacon explains it all.Ā <br/><br/>The gold kitchen is definitely skilled in every way and makes up for their name. Having heard Au79 recently acquired a liquor licence, I am so excited to go back and try their new upcoming cocktail menu and newly invented menu. Canā€™t wait to see what surprise Au79 is bringing out.
The_littlehungrylife
This cafe is just amazing, it has wow factor! They bake their own breads, roast their own beans and make their own pastas! The dishes are great sizes and the menu is very creative and well balanced. I really loved our experience.
Espy Eats
It is an absolute sin that I have not made it to Au79 until being invited along to a bloggers table to try their new menu out. Judging by the crowds at 1pm I have clearly been missing out. This upbeat venue had a fitout that can only be described and awesome and so many zones that I lost count. Itā€™s such a long cafe and there was just so much happening from on site bakery, retail space where you can even buy plants right through to the back rooms which were closed on todayā€™s visits for a private function and high tea function. They even roast their own coffee. The impressive fitout lends itself perfectly to functions so I can see why that part of the business is thriving. <br/><br/>Today we tried a range of dishes both new and old as well as some that were on their short term specials board. We started with nicely extracted coffee and matcha lattes which were both the real deal. <br/><br/>For lunch today we tried the Hiramasa Kingfish, the Pumpkin Linguine, the Miso Scrambled Eggs with pork belly, the Wild Pine Mushroom Polenta and finished off with the Tropical Forest Waffles. <br/><br/>I have to say the Hiramasa was one of the prettiest platings I have seen in a while. This light weight lunch dish came with huge bursts of flavour from the ginger, avocado, coriander but there was certainly an overarching citrus twist from yuzu. Iā€™m loving yuzu so much at the moment so a great dish to start with.<br/><br/>The Pumpkin Linguine was quite textural with crunchy walnuts, roasted pumpkin, plenty of garlic and all sitting in a pumpkin purĆ©e. This was one tasty dish and the linguine was nicely cooked.<br/><br/>The Miso Scramble was pure genius. I had never knew adding miso to eggs was a thing but shall be doing this at home in the future. This scramble was super flavoursome and Iā€™m I enjoyed the fact that texturally the scramble remained similar to regular scramble. I could forgive the lack of a super crunchy crackle on the pork belly because other than this small thing the dish was overall my favourite savoury item.<br/><br/>The Wild Pine Mushrooms on Polenta was on the specials board and is a perfect example of seasonal offerings from Au79. How great that we can see such limited seasoned Wild mushrooms on the menu.<br/><br/>The last dish we sampled was a sweet treat. The waffles came with fresh berries, meringues, lychee, crumb and a delicious lemongrass and raspberry parfait which I had problem taking more than my fair share of. The lemongrass butterscotch drizzling sauce was a great additional to and the passionfruit purĆ©e quite tart but gave the dish a bit of puckerness that it needed.<br/><br/>We finished off our meal with a special surprise. An espresso martini with gold coated coffee beans called the Midas Martini. Not yet available on the menu cocktails are being invented now that Au79 have recently acquired a liquor licence. Watch this space as Iā€™m sure the team will come of with some cracking drinks in the very near future.<br/><br/>For those in the know liven pay app is very much alive and kicking at this venue.<br/><br/>Thanks so much for having me.

Promised 5 minutes wait at the start, waited outside for half a hour, asked them twice more on how long is the wait, been told 5 minutes twice more. People came after us got table before us. Will not visit again.

Definitely worth 5 stars for this brunch. The lamp rump was amazing. The lamb was well cooked and served with small potatoes and avocado sauce I guess. Just couldn't be better. The Waffle was also awesome with a dip in the caramel sauce and cranberry ice cream. Hope to try the linguine next time.
Good Food Good Mood
UPDATE I was delighted to be invited to Au79 to check out their new menu with a group of other foodies. Having visited when it first opened I knew I was in for a gorgeous setting but I was also pleased to see a very small line upon arrival for while we had a table organised I know the wait had soured my original experience which would not have impacted the rest of the diners this time. <br/>Let me just say the new menu is spectacular! I absolutely adored my peach cobbler, an utterly stellar dish and quite the guilty pleasure given I felt like I was eating dessert. This was compounded by the fact that we all shared some waffles afterwards which by the way were phenomenal (note the menu hasnā€™t been updated on Zomato) the lemongrass flavour was subtle but the meringue had an exceptional taste and all of the elements worked really beautifully together. I particularly enjoyed the sweet and tart contrast between the passionfruit and butterscotch- quite an exceptional dish and as always a wonderful experience <br/><br/>Wow. An absolutely huge space. We are talking an entire converted warehouse that seems to stretch on and on with seating for 200 and still we were advised of a 40 minute wait for three people. A 10% public holiday surcharge couldn't deter the crowds, neither could the well established hugely popular Three Bags Full that's located a few hundred metres away. I guess we all love something new and shiny. Shiny and gold to be exact. Au is the chemical symbol for gold, 79 is the atomic symbol and they certainly hit the jackpot with the interiors. Plants a plenty and the gold theme echoes through in little touches on the floor. I felt like I was sitting in a beautiful tropical rainforest and I absolutely adored the little booth we were (eventually) seated in. This was a legitimate wait not one of those ones were they say it's 40 minutes and they call you in 10 minutes it was actually 48 ain't nobody got time for that minutes. I felt like everyone in Melbourne was in the line and it kind of gets to a point where if you know you are so busy why don't you just allow people to book tables. It's very unpleasant to stand on the street for close to an hour during the chilly Melbourne winter. Wait time aside, did we strike gold with the food? I absolutely loved my granola. It wasn't too sweet and was surprisingly filling. The banana custard element did not remotely taste of banana it had a very strong coconut milky flavour which was actually delicious (even if it wasn't what I had bargained for). The acai sorbet had an interesting taste not sure what else it was blended with but that distinct yummy acai flavour didn't really come through strongly. I still very much enjoyed the dish but honestly waiting so long really dampens the experience. The food was excellent the atmosphere was sensational but when you spend longer in the line then you do on the table there's an issue. I get that they can't help that they are popular, who would have thought you could fill 200 seats and have a queue trail out the door but there's a very simple solution and that is the ability to make a reservation. Believe me Melbournians don't wake up in the morning and say oh where should we go to breakfast. They planned that out four days ago and they've been looking forward to it all week. Points off for the wait. Sort it out
Miss T.A
Spacious . Long queue . Worth the wait . Excellent presentation of food. Green plants everywhere. Modern interior. Friendly and efficient staff. Instagramable.

I've been meaning to go to AU79 since it opened and it's lived up to the hype. I ordered the Market fish which on the day was a crispy salmon. We also ordered the waffles for the table.Ā <br/><br/>The Crispy Salmon was perfectly done, the skin was perfectly crispy (my favourite part). There was definitely enough on the plate to justify the price as the salmon rested on a bed of vegetables and a spread underneath which added a bit more saltiness to the dish.<br/><br/>The waffles were as fluffy as they look topped with a delicious fresh berry ice cream. The dish was colourful and really popped. I'm not usually one to order a sweet dish for brunch but it is definitely a dish you need to order if you go.<br/><br/>Now let's talk about the fit-out... whatever anyone else tells you is an understatement and you'll have to go visit it yourself. The greenery, seating, colours and space is open, bright and an absolute pleasure to dine it with a group of friends. Potentially would be great setting to host a celebration of some sort too.

Decent portion size, menu is to die for - specials are always inventive but not over the top like some brunch restos. I love how they keep it simple but flavours are impressive! Delicious!
Foodie In Paradise
Based on the high rating on zomato, I came here with a huge expectation that how amazing the food going to be but was slightly disappointed. <br/>I absolutely love the decor of this place, so spacious and with lot of indoor plants. The fiddle fig leaf trees throughout the building making it extra special. <br/>We had the waffle and the Korean veggie Benedict. The waffle was quite nice but I didn't really like the lemongrass infusion in this dish. The Korean veggie Benedict was a too overwhelming dish. I really like their home made kimchi on top of the sourdough but with the gochujang hollandaise just overpowering the whole dish. But I think that just my personal opinion and taste bud. Matcha latte was strong which was perfect. <br/>Staffs are very friendly and service can be a bit slow when they are busy which is expected. Overall, I really like the vibe of this place making it such a great place to catch up with friend and family especially very pram friendly with such a spacious space.

One of my bookmarks for the places I was really looking forward to brunch at, and after realizing it's team was the same as Addict Coffee, I knew I had to visit. The cafe is very spacious, with lots of seating space, and pretty interiors. I loved their menu, given that it had a lot of veg options to choose from! After a lot of contemplation I ordered the Veggie Benedict, which looked beautiful on its arrival (the bad picture is because of the fact that I couldn't wait to click a better one instead of digging into my food). The dish was AMAZING. Definitely one of the best, if not THE best of the Benedicts I've had so far in Melbourne. I'd love to try their waffles and the desserts (which looked very appealing), the next time I visit. Highly recommend!
Cafe Cathy
Love this place, so light and fresh and green with the high ceilings and plants everywhere. Food was really delicious. Fabulous almond coffee and very pretty desserts

King Kong Cafe ...???<br/><br/>Could this be the "B I G G E S T" cafe in Melbourne?<br/><br/>Impressive set up, no outdoor seating area, why would you ... as there are plenty of seating areas inside, retail, onsite roastery, even a nursery, you can buy their plants ... the "plantation" interior is possibly an erlage copy of a South Melbourne cafe.<br/><br/>Well themed, more than enough floor team, very pleasant service and well made latte, 8/10 $4.00.<br/>Solid Black and Gold ... impressive King of the Kongs cafe, toilet faclity is very small in comparison, well you don't make money out of toilet :-) JT-24/04/2018.

Nice service, many vegetarian options. Macha latte was good but not standing out. Good portion meals. If coming in around 8-9am, service and meal will be quick. However those items are pricey.

Having heard about how good this place was for quite some time, we decided to make a trip there for a Sunday breakfast. <br/><br/>Their matcha latte was one of the best we have had so far. The kimchi veggie benedict was served with very fragrant mushrooms, but the sauce was probably a little too much and rich for our liking. <br/><br/>For those with a sweet tooth, the fruit waffle was amazing - waffles stayed crispy till the end, raspberry ice cream was delicious! <br/><br/>Looking forward to coming back to try other dishes and even buy a loaf of their freshly baked bread!
Melanie (ForeverBrunching)
Had a lovely brunch for a friendā€™s birthday here over the weekend. The athletics of this place is beautiful, it feels like youā€™re in a rainforest with all the plants. The staff were friendly and gave me extra time when I couldnā€™t decide what to order! I ordered a soy iced latte and the pumpkin linguine. The linguine itself tasted homemade, as well as being overall tasty and filling. I would recommend this cafe to others.
Eating Away Melbourne
Have been to AU79 multiple times and it never disappoints. Their menu has lots of interesting options and every time I kinda struggle to order because I want everything. Had Korean benedict this time and added chorizo on it and its some strong flavours there. Always love an asian twist so enjoyed this dish very much. Also had a soy latte which was smooth. Will be back!

Visited this place for a quick breakfast on our way to work, which turned into a bit of a feast- both dishes we ordered looked great and tasted very nice. They do very nice chai (leaf) and espresso. They also sell great looking bread and dessert. Maybe could offer a better range of pastries.

UPDATE<br/>went here and they had NO JUICE AT ALL.... NONE! They had a broken juicer..... thatā€™s fine things happen.... but Your next door to a supermarket Go and buy some so your customers that donā€™t drink coffee can have a drink. Lazy management when something was such and easy fix.<br/><br/>Huge venue, always so busy on weekends so never bother going but had the chance for a midweek visit so decided to give it a go. Friendly staff and service was quick and easy. Great coffee and juice, the croque madam was very tasty, different to what you would normally expect but it seemed like all very fresh produce and was very tasty. Had the Hash as a side and for $5 it was a bit of a joke seeing it was the size of a large potato gem but all in all good joint! Really nice fit out with lots of indoor plants, very relaxing. 3.5/5<br/><br/>
Sue
Ambience, fit-out, staff are all great. Good place to catch up with many friends or family as they have large seating capacities. Came on Sunday for lunch and waited ten mins which was pretty good for a busy restaurant. <br/><br/>The only let down is the food as the pictures looked so amazing and reviews were great. Croque madam and chicken burger was quite disappointing in terms of flavour. For a $20 burger, we expected it to taste a lot better than a fast food burger but it fell short of it. Waffle was average although it did look very pretty and instagrammable.

Amazing ambience inside like a mini rain forest. Back area got quite warm during midday with sunlight. Front area was cooler and more spacious.<br/>Best oknomyiaki Iā€™ve had in Melb without strong eggy flavour.<br/>Passion fruit tart was great but quite sweet.<br/>Almond matcha, hot chocolate and chai were all good. Coffees were also above average. <br/>Expect a long wait during brunch on weekends.
Jaime Eat&Fit
Visited here at a Sunday noon. Waiting time was around 15 mins, with nice bread and drinks self served. First time tried the turmeric almond latte, a bit spicy but creamy! Iā€™m not a fan of ginger but I liked the latte. I ordered Korean Benedict with bacon, the creative idea of adding the gochujang makes it spicy and tasty! My friend had the chorizo pappardelle, in a large size and well cooked. At last, we tried the tropical forest waffle. They changed the previous white into the tropical forest, I like it coz the waffle itself was not sweet! The staff are really friendly and service is quick! Next Sunday I shall invite other friends and try other dishes!

Gold indeed! Feast for your eyes while you feed your belly. So impressed by how beautiful this place is, it's like an indoor garden and very Instagramable.<br/><br/>As it wasn't peak hour, the guy at the door greeting all guests was very happy to have a chat and tell me about the mouth-opening decor. Transformed by Mim Design, the stained cement floors is complemented by Italian furniture and ornamental rings made in Russia. It has a bakery and roastery in the middle section, producing fresh pastries and brews in house. Seating 200, the place collects a string of awards for its modern design and creative dishes using seasonal produce.<br/><br/>With too many tempting choices, the helpful and friendly staff made some recommendations and left me to consider. The Hiramasa Kingfish exceeded my expectations. Much too pretty to eat, the slices of Kingfish with avocado cream, daikon, pickled ginger, yuzu, nashi pear and puff rice were aestheticaly arranged. Each ingredient was unique in taste and texture but also harmonised with the others. My taste buds were in foodie haven. The turmeric latte with almond milk has a bit of a kick - spicy but creamy.<br/><br/>I can't say enough great things about this place except it's worth bringing family and friends here for the experience.
Where Will We Eat
Reviewing High Tea<br/><br/>After seeing some gorgeous pics of a high tea event at Au79 last year, I was super excited to have an excuse to share the experience with a group of friends. We were out celebrating the impending arrival of a new baby to the group (and none of us are massive fans of baby showers), so wanted something relaxed but still special to mark the occasion.<br/><br/>In the lead up Ricki and her team at Au79 were lovely, accommodating any and all requests (although we're an easy group to deal with, so nothing other than catering for a pregnant woman). We arrived to a beautiful table setting complete with gorgeous crockery and flowers. After not too long our afternoon tea arrived. Everything was served with a touch of gold (of course), and the presentation was beautiful. All the girls were impressed and then even more so once we started eating!<br/><br/>The savoury food included a selection of finger sandwiches: avocado & bacon; smoked salmon & cream cheese; cucumber. I loved them all, especially the avo & bacon! Then it was onto the fried chicken slider - yes that's right, burgers at high tea! The gold topped brioche bun was so fresh, and filled with just the right amount of chicken & cheese.<br/><br/>On to the sweet selection! The obligatory scones with jam and cream were next. Perfect little scones with just the right amount of crumble were accompanied by house-made raspberry jam, butter and cream. The final tier contained three desserts. First up was chocolate mousse filled chocolate cups. Rich and creamy, and a definite favourite of the group. Next to counter the sweetness were giant matcha maracons. A nice balance of sweetness and acidity, and a little surprise pocket of red bean paste in the middle! Lastly was a slice of fruit filled crepe cake. Another favourite of the group, although by this stage we were struggling to fit anything more in!<br/><br/>Overall it's definitely an experience I would repeat and recommend. We went on a Tuesday, so the cafe was not too busy. This meant we didn't feel rushed at all or like we were outstaying our welcome (in all we were at Au79 for around 4 hours!!). For $59 per person (teas/coffees included), there was more than enough food for everyone, and the mumma to be even went home with some leftover scones and maracons. If you've got a reason to celebrate, or even just looking for an excuse, definitely get along and give their high tea a go!
Bite The Looks By BHA
One of the hottest spot in melbourne!so much love for their ambience, friendly staff and great place ! Good place to hangout with friends or family. We ordered White forest waffle (sweet chocolate waffle), au79 Big breakfast<br/>And Crispy skin pork belly with 2 hot chocolate & a cup of chai latte. Really made my day! #BHAsFoodDiary

Such a cute interior! Ordered the Korean 'Veggie' Benedict + bacon. It was such a filling meal and they were definitely generous on the mushrooms. The only thing was that the kimchi didn't have much of a kick to it but overall great dish. I also recommend the Green Juice/10 which was tasty and refreshing! Service was very slow, but we did come during lunch.
Tim
Found a staple in my pumpkin linguine.Ā <br/>Waitress apologised and took the dish off the bill and gave me a free drink. They couldn't figure out how the staple got in there.<br/>Apart from that, I've been here before and never had an issue so I'm sure it was a once off. Service is lovely and friendly.

Came here for a late lunch. The restaurant is big and perfect for big groups . Loved the atmosphere and the food! Great service ! Will be back to try more dishes.

Wonderful, attentive service and yummy food. This cafe worked great for a large group and I loved the greenery and decor. They even served us a complimentary dessert for my birthday which was very tasty
Catherine Widyaputri Suprapto
Had a good experience although it wasnā€™t very special. The food was fine, not too much to my liking. But I enjoyed how they designed the cafe. It was a nice feeling to be there.
Niki
The food was alright, but the overall experience was very underwhelming- quite overpriced for what you get. I was really disappointed that they won't do substitutions for items in a meal (I get that it's annoying to swap up meals, but if THAT many of your meals have egg it's ridiculous). The staff were friendly, but it was very hard to catch their attention to order, after having had to grab our own water and menus. Don't really understand the hype about this place.
FoodforThought
Huge cafe resembling a greenhouse with lots of greenery and open spaces. Great option for large groups. Food was not bad too although it was a long wait for the main (about 45mins). But extra points for the great service as we werenā€™t charged any corkage fee for bringing a cake in and having it there.

Au79 is a great addition to the Victoria St. food culture. The place has a very clean, open/spacious and professional presentation, and the staff are friendly. The coffee is decent but fails to compete with other places renowned for coffee nearby. The food is elegantly prepared and has good flavour, however it is not absolutely blow-away fantastic despite popular claim. The baked goods are worth checking out.
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:<br/>+ Cold Defence (Juice)<br/>+ Big Breakfast<br/><br/>Au79 is a modern cafe set in bustling Richmond (Victoria St) offering an alternative fair in an area dominated by Vietnamese cuisine. Itā€™s a huge nicely converted warehouse spot serving great cafe food and bake goods. I was after a quick breakfast and tried out their big breakfast (which was a generous serving of mushrooms, eggs, chorizo, bacon, tomato and relish). Everything was well cooked and seasoned and very satisfying. I also had a ā€œCold Defenceā€ which was a refreshingly and surprisingly well balanced mix of juices, ginger and turmeric. Service was quick despite how busy the place was. <br/>They also have a large menu which Iā€™m sure I will be back to try out!<br/><br/>

Loved the ambiance at Au79. Great seating, warm and friendly service plus an interesting menu! Dishes came out presented impressively. Food tasted nice, I was not blown away though. I was more impressed by the look then the taste. The big breakfast had a relish that I wasnā€™t particular fond of but thats down to personal preference. Glad I tried but I would not necessarily rush back, considering how busy AU79 gets.

Came here on Sunday morning. The interiors design are very beautiful and itā€™s a hidden gem beside Woolworth. Waiting time for a table is 10min but I noticed there are a lot of empty spaces behind the cafe. We were also told the waiting time for food is about half an hour which I think itā€™s a bit too long. They should have done something to meet the demands. Overall pleasant experience and the dishes were unique and delicious. Worth a visit!!
Hungryjack001
Now that the hype about this place has lulled, came here with a family group. Most impressed with the decor which is light and airy, and enough room to be able to move around. We were shown to a banquette! ( I love banquettes) Service was friendly, attentive and when there was an issue with one of the meals, the staff bent over backwards to accommodate the fussy eater and she went home happy. The potato croquettes were sublime and we caught sight of the waffles going past....A 2 person job if ever I've seen one. Really generous serves and great coffee and er yes....park next door under Aldi's. Buy something and you'll get 2 free hours
Chippie
We had breakfast at Au79 this morning and really loved the look of the cafe. Light and airy and full of greenery. We were seated at a banquette and ordered our coffees. I ordered a double shot, and it came out tepid and weak. Not a good sign.. Breakfast was underwhelming. I think I was expecting a lot better. The smashed avo was bitter and so lemony. Not pleasant to eat at all and the scrambled eggs were too runny. The service was a bit hit and miss as well. As we were leaving, I noticed a line of people waiting to go in. Iā€™m glad we got there early as in my opinion itā€™s not worth waiting for.
Truffleā€™s Mum
Very quirky/funky spot; come early as thereā€™s a wait list for tables for weekend brunch. As they bake in-house and sell too, they had tasters throughout the venue of their bread and hot cross buns to sample which was a nice touch. <br/>Had The Big Breakfast, which was by no means bad, but relatively average/unexciting compared to others weā€™ve had. Might have to try something a bit more unusual next time. <br/>Coffee and service was excellent!
Zacquilinelao
The place was enormous and it was full of people. The use of greenery filled the place with positive vibes. I expected the food to exquisite however I felt as though it lacked a lot of flavour.<br/>I had the mango tango smoothie which was okay. It didnā€™t make me really want to drink more. I felt like I only drank it to pass the time as we had to wait 45 mins for our food.<br/>The lamb rump was toppled with so much Rosmary. I donā€™t mind if thereā€™s a stalk but I personally found it a bit difficult to eat as there were so many. The ratio between the potatoes and the lamb was a bit off; there was just a little more potato than lamb and they were also on the salty side. The pea purĆ©e didnā€™t really add anything to the dish, it was just there. The broccolini was very nice and crispy <br/>The smashed avocado was not anything special. It lacked a lot of flavour.<br/>The hash mushroom didnā€™t have a good balance of flavour. The mushroom themselves were a bit salty but the purĆ©e on the toast lacked that flavour and made the bread soggy.<br/>The pumpkin linguini was heavy for my liking however the flavours were there. I especially liked the walnuts which I felt elevated this dish. I personally would have liked the linguini to be cooked for longer but nevertheless was packed with flavour.<br/>The customer service was great and staff were very friendly however the wait for food was very long :(<br/>I expected a lot more than what we got and was very disappointed as the place looked so amazing

this cafe is one of the best cafes that i have been to the people were very welcoming and helpful. i have a Cap and it was very nice and lasted a long time as i asked for it extra hot so that it lasted longer. The time was also very quick to come outĀ  which was very good to see. i would differently recommend to all my friends and will be back at some point when i'm back in that area.

Au79 has been all over social media as an instagram-able cafe with fusion delights and spectacular coffee, so of course I had to check it out!<br/><br/>It has a spacious design with seating at the front and back sections as well as a sweets and coffee display by the counter. Plenty of small tables but can accommodate larger groups (with booking) too.<br/><br/>As for the food, I had the "Korean veggie benedict". Unlike a classic benedict, the flavours in this one were powered by the kimchi, gochujang sauce and mushrooms. It was a filling dish with many mushrooms, 2 eggs and hidden kimchi beneath. Very flavoursome, highly recommend especially if you're a kimchi fan!!<br/><br/>Still so many menu items to try!! Was very impressed with this visit which won't be the last!!

Staff: friendly<br/>Food: quite good but not particularly memorable, okonomiyaki was too salty for me but not for my dining partner<br/>Coffee: very good, they use Bonsoy<br/>Ambience: huge space, noisy, photogenic fitout and decor, typical for a good brunch place <br/><br/>This place was quite good although not special. Food was more interesting and well-designed than delicious although still alright. <br/>
QP
Visited this place as we were wanting to find a pram/family friendly cafe with space - Au79 delivers. From the outside, it looks like any cafe but it extends all the way to the back of the building next door to The Hive shopping complex. If you want free undercover parking (2 hours) I suggest you park in the complex (with any purchase). The ambience of the cafe is so airy and bright with friendly staff - it's the perfect place to grab breakfast/brunch and chat the afternoon away. Coffees and drinks were really good. Food is above average with it leaning more towards Asian fusion with breakfast staples. My family tried the: Spicy chicken Bao Burger with fries, Okonomiyaki, barramundi and the Korean Eggs Benedict with Bacon. All very delicious and filling - highly recommended place!
Followthefoodmelbourne
Came here not long ago to try their Japanese (Okonomiyaki) pancake dish. <br/>Iā€™m not much of a savoury pancake or fritter person but I REALLY enjoyed this dish. Itā€™s hearty, tasty and full of interesting textures. I particularly loved the sweet potato chips on top and the flavour of the mayo! Also, the actual venue itself is one of the most stunning cafes in Melbourne (and one of the biggest). Itā€™s crisp white decor and green plants make for a gorgeous, sophisticated interior.<br/>I also found their whole menu impressive and Iā€™m so keen to come back and try some of their sweet options!

Need to improve on their service. They told me which table I should sit and just left. Then when my friend is here, we called for waiter but he just went to do other things until we called him second time then only he came over. Food was so so. The crispy skin pork belly wasnā€™t crispy at all. Coffee is good though.
Alfred Tiong Eng Chuah
Poor service. After being seated for 15 mins or so, no one came over to take drinks order. Tried to wave down a few to no avail. Had to hail a waiter a second time after 5 minutes he saw our calling. Food quality wasnā€™t that great either. Crispy pork must have been rained on this morning (1/3). Air conditioning wasnā€™t that good too in this glass house. Overall staff including cashier were either overworked/underpaid or unfriendly on this day.
Birdman
Very cool fit out, and decent size too. Went early on a Sunday morning and service and speed was friendly and quick which is perfect. The Scrambled eggs were exactly how I like them, creamy and fluffy. Ordered with an extra egg which was highly unnecessary as the serving was massive. Ordered the goats feta which was a good addition however the confit tomatoes were cold, raw and unedible... offered a free muffin but declined as was just giving the feedback. Would definitely return just maybe swap tomato for bacon šŸ„“<br/><br/>Returned again and it was amazing. My favourite cafe in the richmond area
Foodaholic
Came with a group of friends for lunch to celebrate a birthday. This place did not disappoint at all! The space lent itself to large groups and because we had more than 10 people we were seated at the back of the cafe. Which was great as there was space for the kids to do their thing and not disturb other patrons. The wait staff were extremely accommodating to the fact we had smallish kids and even when they were playing with toys and generally being kids they did not make a fuss like some other uppity cafes might have- which is a great relief for parents as we are always paranoid about annoying other people. The service was prompt and efficient as one would expect of such a place. The coffee was spot on- perfect drinking temperature and smooth. Lunch was also a pleasing affair. As my boy couldnā€™t eat a full meal the waitress suggested she make up a meal for him using the extras list so that he doesnā€™t get overwhelmed and I donā€™t have to pay for something I know he wouldnā€™t be able to finish (a kids menu would have been great- maybe in the future?) I ordered the Rosti with poached eggs and holladaise sauce- eggs were poached perfectly , sauce was well balanced in Flavour and Smooth and the rosti was the perfect combo of crunchy outside and soft inside. Hubby ordered the grain salad and was very happy with the size and balance of Flavours in his meal. Over all an excellent experience and we will surely be back !
Phoebe Chang
Amazing place! It made our day! Especially after yesterdayā€™s awful experience. We were not hungry and only went for simple stuffs on the menu - fruit toast and chia pudding. The coffee was lovely, fruit toast was baked in-house with beautiful cream cheese and honey, the chia pudding was perfectly balanced with magical taste. All the staffs show their great affection working here! Looking forward to come back again!!
Jenny
Such a beautiful place with so many aesthetically pleasing plants. Staff were so nice and the food was amazing. Was pleased with the fast service. Must recommend the waffle!
Codaholic
Very hip Abbotsford venue that is always chockers, but quick service ensures the wait isnā€™t too long. Have been twice now, so tried both the breakfast and lunch menus. Eggs with Asian flavours are magnificent, while the burger was massive.
Leslie Yapi
Ambiance was fantastic. Decoration is very unique, and the ambiance is very comfortable and cozzy. They even have a private function room at the back. Decorated with nice plants, perfect for small party.<br/><br/>Their food menu is not as wide but they have quite a selection of cake. We tried the barramundi, pork belly and AU79 burger. Burger was my favourite. Pork belly abit salty but the potatoes are roasted into perfection. <br/>Abit dissapointed with The barramundi as it was abit small and plain.<br/><br/>They have really nice coffee and they also provides selection of different coffee. Was too full to order dessert, but will come back to try their sweet menu.<br/><br/>If you get around the area, just park on the Aldi/Woolworths parking right next to it. It only cost $1 for 1 hr or $3 for 2 hrs

Great food and baby friendly!<br/>Cauliflower fritters were yum and the Japanese pancake amazing!<br/>Service rapid and great attention <br/>Great location <br/>Will definitely be back!

Excellent service and food! Would definitely go back again. It will be good when they can open the back section ..................................
Been There. Ate That.
Pretentious. It's like the Myer's cafeteria of Melbourne breakfasts. Sorry to those of the staff who are trying really hard to keep this Hindenburg of a cafe airborne, but bigger isn't always better. Not even when it's really bigly big.
S
Really beautiful space and food done so well. The peach cobbler dish was so well balanced and not overly sweet. Highly recommend and will definitely return!
Melissa Yeap
I may have just found another cafe to add to my top 10 šŸ˜ I loved everything about this place! There were small human errors, such as the waiter forgetting to provide the glasses to drink from. So we had to ask for it when we already had our jug of water. Also, they placed the wrong order for my friendā€™s dish but it was easily fixed, just had to wait longer for her dish to arrive. <br/><br/>I had the potato croquettes whilst my friends had the korean vegie benedict and peach cobbler. The dishes turned out really pretty and tasted just as good too! Such a spacious and refreshing cafe - a major fan of their interiors!
The Brunch Specialist
Au79 is one of my favourite cafes for brunch in Melbourne. The menu is creative, the food is always beautifully presented and the space itself is aesthetically pleasing.<br/><br/>I ordered the potato croquette, which is an outstanding dish. The flavours were really balanced, and the eggs were perfectly poached.<br/><br/>My sister had the mango granola, which she really enjoyed. <br/><br/>Iā€™m looking forward to returning and trying more things off the menu.
Simply WonderFood
This place is absolutely gorgeous. Iā€™ve been a few times and I try something different each time and everything has been delicious. <br/>The menu is full of dishes that will be great if you just want a normal brunch but also have some really interesting lunch options like lamb croquettes or a delicious salmon. Au79 is a beautiful cafe. The interior is stunning and I love the fact you can peek in at the bakery through large glass windows. It was opened by the team behind sir Charles in Fitzroy and having been to sir Charles and not been blown away I was a little hesitant. However this time they have definitely got It right. We were a large table and were dealt with superbly. The coffee was spot on and each of us enjoyed our food.

It's worth checking this place out for the interior designing alone. Gorgeous high ceilings and an abundance of trees and potted plants gives it a real light and airy feeling, but still with a bit of the industrial edginess that Melbourne cafes are known for! <br/><br/>2pm on a sunny Tuesday afternoon and the place was only a quarter full, so we managed to snag one of the comfy booths. The staff were all super friendly & helpful as they explained their coffee menu (it seems to change fairly regularly so you'd always be in for something fresh and new). The Guatemalan cold brew coffee was a particular stand out.<br/><br/>Can't wait to go back and try some of the brunch menu, it all sounds delicious!

So unless youā€™ve been living under a rock, Iā€™m sure youā€™ve heard of AU79. It seems to be a cult classic for most melbourne brunch junkies and after my first visit I can completely see why.Ā <br/><br/>The layout of the cafe is unlike anything else that Iā€™ve seen. Iā€™m talking indoor plants, cosy booths, coffee displays and a bakery on site. (Yes, you can watch them both make bread and coffee!).Ā <br/><br/>AU79 is so popular, there is almost always a guaranteed wait time. On my last visit, it took about 10 minutes, however this was during a work day at a non-peak time, so this will vary.Ā <br/><br/>Ordering from the menu was a challenge because believe me when I say you will want to order EVERYTHING. It took me a good ten minutes to settle on the corn and pumpkin fritters and I was not disappointed.Ā <br/><br/>Be prepared for a flavour kick right in the jaw and to love every minute of it! Sure, it doesnā€™t look like much in my picture but boy, I still have dreams about this meal and I feel like youā€™re not going to believe me until youā€™ve tried it for yourself!Ā <br/><br/>Check out AU79 ASAP itā€™s perfect for your next date/brunch/treatyoself sesh, and itā€™s guaranteed to impress!

I had the miso scrambled eggs which were too runny and had a disgusting flavour, though the cauliflower they were served with was good. The matcha latte was too bitter.

Au79. With a name like that, I was expecting to strike gold. What a disappointment was had instead. <br/>Went for lunch with a group of 5 on a Wednesday, the place was buzzing and had a great atmosphere, got a table easily, nice start. <br/><br/>Ordered the burger, and that's where it went south. Half an hours wait later and the food for our table arrives...3 burgers and another dish. I waited patiently for a few minutes thinking that the waitress was going back to get the last burger to complete our order. Nope, not the case. When asked she checked with the kitchen and came back to say they'd forgotten and told me to wait.<br/><br/>So out comes my burger finally. First thoughts - it looked all good, the terracotta pot for fries was a bit buzzy. That's where it ends. Tried cutting it in half but the burger patty was over cooked (it had a blackened layer around it) and the burger bun stale and dry. There was nothing overly delicious about this dish except for the fries. I really didn't think it was that hard to make a descent burger. <br/>Au79, might need to hit that periodic table up and choose a new element to be, cos gold you ain't. <br/>

Wednesday 27 December 2017 at 1.30pm.<br/>A pleasantly designed cafe just off Victoria St. <br/>The coffee was tasty šŸ˜‹ā˜•ļø <br/>I opted for the Potato Croquettes with a serve of bacon šŸ„“ <br/>This was nice but not overly exciting.
Sam
A very busy restaurant, we waited about 30mins to get a table , the staff gave us a large share table at the end of the restaurant, then I noticed we were the only two person on the table for long time (there is still a lot of customers were waiting after us )so I started to think , itā€™s not because they were full House , it was because either the kitchen couldnā€™t handle the pressure or they lacking staffs , the food is reasonably ok , very pretty & instagramable .

One of our top brunch places with a twist of asian pairings. Full points for great service and lovely environment, food was hands down delicious my favourite was their korean vegie benedict and potato croquettes. Miso scramble eggs were delightful as well with a side of cauliflowers. Smashed avo with a hint of seaweed. Freshly baked loaf and house brew coffee beans to complete the experience
Nat
Service is great, food is delish, with a desent size portion and bread is made onsite. The coffee is yum, and they also have little cakes on display. This place is worth a try!

Great food, and great customer service that never disappoints. Been here a few times and was always happy with everything. Will definitely be back again

Lovely place, nice food, we came in the morning and we didnā€™t wait for long to get a table. The place itself was huge with botanical garden style. I ordered donuts from special menu and didnā€™t regret it, it was different and delicious. Will come back again
Lollycc
Best granola I have ever tried. Visited here just before Xmas and will definitely go back ! <br/>Highly recommend this place ! Fresh food and extremely helpful staffs.

Itā€™s like sitting in a greenhouse eating breakfast. The setting with all the plants surrounding you is beautiful. Coffee and food are unique and tasty too.

Beautiful interior, spacious and not overdone.<br/>Menu is interesting - Asian inspired. Tasty flavours and nice add ons. I got the fritters and they were delicious and sweets case was super impressive. Would recommend as a good place if youā€™re in the Abbotsford area. Staff were attentive and friendly. <br/>Coffee was ace šŸ‘šŸ¼

Terrible over worked food - weird combinations and boring <br/>Coffee takes forever - donā€™t order anything too complicated - the staff wonā€™t remember<br/>Underworked staff - slow and inexperienced <br/>Food took forever <br/>Duck was dry and bun was stogy<br/>Gold dust? Really ?????!?!? Do we need to pay for that ?!?<br/>

Very impressive interior - an absolutely massive converted warehouse filled with lush greenery and lots of gold and copper detailing. <br/><br/>I had the miso scrambled eggs with the optional addition of confit pork belly ($18+$6). The pork belly serve was quite small and didnā€™t really add to the dish so I wouldnā€™t recommend it, but the scrambled eggs were lovely, soft and fluffy and the roasted cauliflower was amazing. The dish was quite salty though which made it difficult to finish.<br/><br/>Coffee was delicious and I loved the little explainer about all their coffee origins - a great touch for bean-obsessed Melbourne. All in all a very satisfying brunch!

After waiting for about 30 minutes outside in the cold and another 30 minutes for the food to come after ordering, I must say I was quite unsatisfied with the food. Nothing outstanding or honestly worth the long wait. In saying that food was nice, coffee was standard, the venue itself was beautiful with high ceiling, open space and lots of life. Whether I will return anytime soon though? Donā€™t think so, Melbourne just has too much to offer when it comes to brunch!
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Au79 is an impressive cafƩ. The huge flagship of the CCC Group is not just architecturally beautiful, but also boasts a menu full of interesting Asian-influenced dishes. Au79 also serves as a coffee roaster, patisserie and bakery, selling their products to both the public and other venues around Melbourne.

Lovely cafe - really big with nice lightning and a good vibe! Lots of plants too. Had the grain salad with grilled chicken which was delicious, and had so much avocado hidden underneath the greenery! My friend had the spicy chicken Bao which was apparently delicious (looked amazing!) and the chips were so tasty with really nice seasoning. Was really busy when we were there, so our tea/coffee and the food took a pretty long time to come out. This wasn't too much of an issue though. Can't wait to return!!

Visited Au79 for a function and discovered it had the most beautiful greenhouse at the back, with a table all beautifully set up! Ambience and environment - 5/5! But the food was just so-so at about 3/5. I had the roast pork served with polenta and pear puree but it was dry, and tough.

Have been here multiple times, prebaby and most recently with our 15mo- we Loved it! Awesome open, green venue.. huge space. Kid friendly <br/>Generous tasty dishes - everything Iā€™ve ever had here had been exceptionally good. <br/>Good coffee and such friendly service - love love the maĆ®tre d <br/>Will keep coming back !

Very good food, severely underrated. Beats humble rays out of the park! Not too far from the city, perfect for Thursday brunches. Slightly expensive.
Jonathan Ong
the place is gorgeous! and really big.<br/>unfortunately the food is a bit of a let down. cauliflower fritters had a weird balance of flavours. the okonomiyaki was an interesting take. the miso omelette was good but not wow. <br/>would have gotten 4 if the food was just a bit better because the space is so nice!
Cavendish
Super busy and trendy place on a Sunday morning. Make sure you donā€™t just start queuing behind others (like I did for a bit) - but go inside and put your name down. It was about a 45 minute wait to get seated. The place is huge, and pretty spectacular with all the indoor plants and open spaces. But because itā€™s so big and seats so many - it was quite the wait to get our food - nearly an hour. We had the fritters with bacon and the kimchi eggs. Coffee was good, service was friendly, just a long wait for a table and food.

Refreshing interior and beautiful food!<br/>ā€¢ā€¢ā€¢ā€¢<br/>Best waffles iā€™ve ever had!! The blend of white chocolate, strawberries and meringue was just heavenly!! <br/>ā€¢ā€¢ā€¢ā€¢<br/>The food came out pretty quick and everything looked so pretty

They roast their own coffee which made the quality of coffee consistent. I order the long black and was delicious. For food, we order the waffle and potato croquettes. Waffle was visually stunning but average for taste. The potato waffle was really good with the cheese sauce and sauerkraut. A unique combination
Perry
Came here with my friend, I've had Granola and he has got a big breakfast. Enjoying the environment, large open area. Dishes were good. I ended up having all of it, and it's vegan so I'm so full. Big breakfast is not surprising tho, pretty good overall. Hopefully the food selection should be various someday.
Jin Jau Liau
Pretty interior with lots of green plants all over the cafe. The staff is nice. The food was average. I ordered the okonomiyaki. At least, it's filling.

I had been really looking forward to trying this place as I'd heard the food was great. I was hesitant as a colleague had told me at the long wait to receive their food and drinks. Nonetheless I was prepared to try. So we visited on a working day and lucky to get a table straight away. The venue looks amazing and the menu was pretty diverse and interesting. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. After placing our orders for coffees and lunch, we were waiting quite some time and given we were on a lunch brunch, we had a time limit.Ā WeĀ had waitedĀ approx.Ā 25-30Ā minutes and we had still received nothing. We had asked the waiter for our coffees twice and still nothing. It was only until we had to leave that we spoke to another waiter who was surprised we hadn't received anything. As we walked out of the cafĆ©, we could see this waiter asking the barista's about the coffees and they seemed to have not received our order. Extremely disappointed as I had really wanted to try here, but the service and lack of communication as to our order has led me to rating this so poorly. I'm sorry for the poor rating as I love to acknowledge and give great feedback, unfortunately it was not possible in this instance.
Christina Mathiasz
Great service. Delicious food. One of the best smashed avo dishes I've had, lots of flavour (I added bacon šŸ–). The juice was freshly squeezed. On our way out we took some amazing looking tarts with us which were melt in the mouth. And the venue... It's beautiful. Very modern and the plants inside really made the place lively. It's a little up there with price but as is all good cafes around the area.
Aneta N
This cafe is actually a beautiful space and I was pleasantly surprised at how big it is! It is filled with greenery and light. <br/><br/>The service was attentive and friendly, and they were happy to cater for my dietary needs. <br/><br/>The menu is not huge, but there is a variety of different types of meals. I ordered a smoothie and the cauliflower fritters. I was happy with both of these. They were beautifully presented and tasty. All flavours worked well together.<br/><br/>Iā€™d definitely come back as I want to try more things!
Chen Isaac
Love the open plan warehouse setting, light filled, plenty of greeneries, homey color scheme. Above average food, service is quick. Good for group hanging out.
Lalaivy
Environment and location is good. Very spacious and very nice decorations. <br/><br/>Had ordered Kimchi Benedict and Croquette Madame. It was a little too cheesy for me, Kimchi Benedict was a little sour but the mushrooms have balanced it. <br/><br/>I've had better brunch elsewhere before I don't mind to come back again to try other stuff.
Amanda Ng
This place is huge, almost the size of a car showroom! They indoor spaces are equally as beautiful as their lovely outdoor space which resembles a mini garden. We had the croque madame and Potato croquettes. Croquettes were highly underrated and we can totally see why - the brown butter hollandaise was so delicious but it didnā€™t look nice playing wise. The combination of smashed peas, cabbage, fried potato croquette, poached eggs and hollandaise was SPECTACULAR. The croque madame on the other hand was extremely disappointing. It didnā€™t have ham inside and it was replaced with capsicum instead? Bechamel sauce was thick and dry and the bread served 80% of the dish. This was probably what set the rating from a perfect 5 to a 4. Iā€™ve heard too much about their Okonomiyaki and Kimchi Benedict which I definitely will be back for! :)
EggsBenny
Solid coffee and a pretty interesting menu. Theyā€™ve put an asian spin on most dishes. I had the Korean Veggie Benedict, with bacon. It was delish. Itā€™s a nice space with lots of plants and light. Staff are friendly. Plenty of parking in the Hive carpark next door<br/>
Our Foodie Finds
Was it just us or was there only one shared unisex toilet is this place? Weird way to start this "food" review but we can't help but reference this as the first thing as it was really weird for such a huge establishment. Beautiful and courtyard like with a touch of industrial simplicity - but one bathroom? Maybe we didn't look hard enough.<br/><br/>Service: average. Waitresses seemed to have attitude and lacked any warmth in their demeanor. OK not all but most, maybe they didn't like being at work on the beautiful day that it was. The guy at the front was probably the nicest it got along with the pretty blonde chick taking our drinks order as we sat down. Everyone else just seemed like they CBF.<br/><br/>Food: average. Expected more from such a beautiful place. Lacked balanced flavours and execution. Perhaps it may have been that the place was bustling with patrons and the kitchen couldn't keep up? Crispy pork belly for one...was not crispy, not even a little bit on all 4 orders that the group we were apart of ordered. Funilly enough though, the pork belly we had ordered as an addition to the Miso scrambled eggs was crispy...ish. This left those with the chewing gum like pork belly skin a little annoyed. Not wanting to have their food molested and treated like in the movie "Waiting" with Ryan Reynolds, no complaints were made. We only took a few photos of some of the meals the group had so apologies - didn't even take a photo of the "chewing gum belly" : S<br/><br/>Probably not going to return here to give them another go though...not unless we have to. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!
Teresa.active.foodie
The second you walk in, you think youā€™re in a glass house surrounded by beautiful greenery in a spacious, comfortable layout. <br/>The service and food is amazing! The Croque Madame is super indulgent but so worth it! The bread is crispy yet soft and a really thick cut!! <br/>And donā€™t get me started on the waffle... itā€™s not just about the theatre of the dish, but the flavours are all there. Highly recommend!

LIT!: we ordered the croquette with curried salmon and the truffle cheese toast with bacon. The highlight would be the cheese toast that's extra cheeeesy and the truffle just bring he dish to life. I was skeptical of ordering bacon but they were so generous with their giant lump of bacon steak. <br/><br/>NOT SO LIT!: however the extra salmon for $4 or $5 was quite pathetic and small. But so enjoyable nonetheless. <br/><br/>Thanks for the delicious meal, au79! We will be back
Yourmelbournefoodguide
Loved the fit out! The cafe is so spacious and has a beautiful sky-light ceiling at the back. The items of the menu are very different and complex - i went for the smashed avocado and it was delicious! Was also a very filling serve. Keen to go back and try some other items.

I finally made it to this massive, modern and beautiful greenery joint. Long gone the day where a cafe is a cafeā€¦ Au79 is not just a cafe but a bakery/patisserie and a boutique roastery shop. True to itā€™s sayingā€¦ it is definitely ā€˜Good as Au79ā€™. First impression.. love all these fiddle leaf trees!! yes Iā€™m a sucker for this designer plants. But thereā€™s just something about plants that makes me happy. Service was efficient and friendly. Of-course this was during lunchtime on a weekday so Iā€™m sure itā€™s not as busy as it would be on the weekends.<br/><br/>Menu wise.. slightly confusing. The menu is filled with classic dishes like the Big Breakfast and the smashed avocado etc. however each dishes has a touch of Asian-influenced- e.g. Miso Scrambled Eggs or the korean Benedict or the Okonomiyaki pancake. Prices slightly higher then usual from $5-$8 for a croissant or small cake, to $18-$25 main dish.<br/><br/>We decided to stick with the basic and hubby got the Big Breakfast which had the usual suspect ā€“Ā  sausage, bacon, mushrooms, poached eggs etc. Tasty but slightly awkward on the small plate. The tomatoes could do with a few more min of grilling and add a touch more of salt and pepper. And the bacon could do with a bit more of a crispiness...

Came in for a quick drink. Had the nuts smoothie and it was delicious. The interior of the place is absolutely stunning. Will be back to try their food menu.

After attending their glamorous launch party back in April, I was so keen to see what AU79 had to offer now they were officially up and running for a good few months. I imagine most of you have seen the venue in the plethora of media attention it received after opening, but for anyone who hasnā€™t, this bright converted barn is one of the largest cafe venues in Melbourne. If you need any convincing how large it is, they just casually have a coffee roaster right in the middle, and still have space for about 200 diners.
Vegetarian Food Lover
Iā€™ve been to Au79 three times, so that says a lot about this place. The venue is huge & they take bookings which is a bonus for large groups. The service is great too. The scramble eggs are made just right & not over cooked. My favorite dish is the cauliflower fritters. The serving is huge so great value for money & quality. Highly recommend this place.
Dollmination
Waited up to 20 mins to get a table, but it was good cause we were waiting while having their coffee and browsing around things they sell at the display. I ordered the lamb croquette and my friend ordered the Spanish baked egg. Personally, i think the lamb croquette taste goods, just not sides around it with raw carrots and some cooked carrots with sauces. My friend didnt enjoy her Spanish baked egg, but we love their coffee and interior for sure!
TheTwinsDiary
What a great brunch place!<br/>All foods are good, especially the salmon dish. Their matcha latte tastes very nice too.<br/>Services here are also great, all waitress are very friendly and nice.<br/>Finally, what i love most about Au79 are the interior and the ambiance of the cafe, very very aesthetically pleasing.
The Food Baby Maker
There was a line when I arrived in Saturday however it moved relatively quickly. The interiors of this space is beautiful and full of lush greenery. The food and coffee was average, just what every other cafe is serving for breakfast and nothing super standoutish. Good customer service though and quick. Isn't high on my return bucketlist unfortunately.
Angel Khong
Lovely comfortable venue; bright, green, spacious. Food is ok, some element combinations do not really work (okonomiyaki with yuzu dressing? They're tastier eaten separately on their own) but they sure look very pretty and Instagrammable. Coffee is pretty good. Great selections of cakes and pastries.
Couchfoodie
I had been eyeing this place off for a while now and finally got to try it a few weeks ago! Every time I tried to come here, there were lines out the door! I can see why though! Once you walk inside this place, itā€™s beautiful and such a big space with great natural light!. We were seated pretty quickly and were given the menu. I decided to order a matcha latte today and my husband ordered a dirty chai (heā€™s trying to find the best one in Melbourne!).
Carina Lai
love the atmosphere of the cafe!!! the food & coffee was pretty good but quite expensive, would love to go back & try more food + the staff were really friendly hehe
Ivy Shen
I went to for lunch with a friend on Saturday, arrived at around 12:40 and waited about 20 min. The staff were nice and friendly. I ordered the summer green and salmon. Both are nice.
Christopher & Marian
Sunday morning and we knew a good place would be in heavy demand.<br/>Christopher & Marian with dear friends wanted a catch up breakfast.<br/>Au79 was recommended and we arrived just before 10am being welcomed by sincerely happy smiling faces.<br/>This space is huge with many table combinations that all work. <br/>Spacious and not noisy, each area within this space is well managed by those assigned to serve the customer.<br/>Menu choices were wonderful with many flavours & dishes from many cultural backgrounds.<br/>They all tasted great.<br/>The coffee was excellent and all staff that served us in our booth-like table for four showed how capable & caring they were.<br/>Simple poached eggs, or the very special baked eggs were impressive.<br/>Yes go to Au79 and expect to be pleased.<br/>We have no hesitation in giving you full marks today and will return.
PedGetsFed
Always a little unfair to review newly opened places but...<br/>Pros:<br/>Fantastic Space<br/>Presentation of food is excellent<br/>Onsite bakery<br/><br/>Cons:<br/>Food is nice but certain dishes like the waffles lacked balance.<br/>Inconsistency- My coffee was delicious, my partners tasted like dishwater.<br/>Service was a little haphazard but again it's new (it's been a few weeks sinceĀ i was there)<br/><br/>Three Bags Full up the road is a superior option.
Robert James Gilbert Smedley
The fit out and finish of the venue is its best feature.<br/><br/>The service is slow waited 20 mins after being seated before we were asked what coffee we were after. Numerous staff wandering around aimless, and 2-3 staff doing almost nothing (supposedly managing the place). <br/><br/>The coffee is quite good, seems they know how to roast and brew their coffees which is good. They aren't the best in Melbourne but no where near the worst. <br/><br/>With regards to the food, it is acceptable, well presented, some interesting things on the menu, but nothing outstanding. You could definitely do worse in Melbourne but you could easily do a lot better as well.
Ilovefoodsomuch
Don't know what the big hype about this place is... big cafe and nice greenery but the food is below average but I guess there's no decent brunch around that area
Anna Singh
Trendy new cafe in Abbotsford. The food was fast and efficient. The interior is fabulous and nothing like it in Melbourne. But all that counts for nothing when the customer service is terrible.
Sammy Cameron
Came for the first time a few weeks ago. Everywhere you look in this place you see money - my gosh how they must have spent a fortune on this place! But food and coffee were both EXCELLENT. Service was good, perhaps a little TOO good. Sometimes all you want is simple service, and for us it felt a bit over the top. But overall, we loved it.
LittleM
This cafe has lovely aesthetics with wide space and many tables, and greenery to improve the ambience. A friend and I came around 9am before the breakfast rush and was able to get a table immediately. We order the oknomiyaki and the Hong Kong french toast to share. Both dishes were tasty and we enjoyed our breakky here. Serivice was friendly and the atmosphere of the cafe is laidback and relaxed.
Freshprinz
I've been to this place far more times than I'd like to admit...and everytime I have had something different from the menu. Every meal has been absolutely delicious! My favourites have been the granola, potato croquettes and the spanish eggs. The staff are so friendly and the interior of the cafe is beautiful with all the plants. This is now one of my absolute favourite cafes in Melbourne. I will keep coming back here!
Doran
This cafe is what most new cafes in Melbourne are like - beautifully styled interiors, Instagram-ready food, but dishes that lack real flavour and depth. I ordered the roasted cauliflower dish and my mate ordered the lamb for lunch. Both had great visual appeal but tasted quite bland.
Clarinna
I have been wanting to visit this place ever since it was opened few months ago. We got there before 10am so it was really easy to get a table, the place is super huge and I didnt think you'd have to wait long but there was quite a waitlist when we left. Pretty lighting and internal decorations reminding me of Kitty Burns. We were really greedy so we we ordered 4 dishes for three and we finished them all. Staffs were okay but service could be better.
Qthai
First time here. The restaurant has an airy ambience due to the luxury of a large space and high ceilings. It is lush with tastefully placed pot plants that give the restaurant a green conservatory feel without the heat. The food was unique and made with what tastes like fresh ingredients. My mother and I shared an okonomiyaki sprinkled with crispy sweet potato and garnished with fragrant coriander. I had a direct view of the open kitchen and mouth-watering food paraded past me to the the other customers. I got a glimpse of the Father's Day steak and frites and some eggy breakfast dishes. At the end of the meal(after I had come out of my food stupor) I noticed the fresh expresso station and dessert display. My next visit will definitely include a sample of hot coffee and cake.
Food Fiend Melbourne
Gorgeous venue, gorgeous food, very hyped-up presence online, but had to wait 30 minutes for a table. The food was nice and staff were friendly. I had the waffle balls, which were delicious! But the topping combos were a bit too tart. My friend had an eggplant based dish and said it was great. Both dishes had a very generous serving size. Would recommend food and venue, but be prepared to wait for a table because it's so popular.
Delightfullytasty
Au79 is a popular cafe in Abbotsford, just off Victoria St on Nicholson St and close to one of my favourite cafes, Three Bags Full. We did have to wait quite long for our drinks to arrive - more than 20 minutes - in fact our food actually arrived before our drinks did, and we had to remind the staff that our drinks hadn't arrived yet. Despite the slight downsides to our dishes, it was still for the most part an enjoyable experience at Au79. I'd come back again to try some of their other dishes, and definitely the desserts as well.
Debby
Very spacious brunch place with tropical interior design. Love it! <br/>Enjoyed my cauliflower fritters. Yum! Would love to come back to try different dish next time. <br/>Good food and great service
Richard Yang
To us this place is more about presentation than the quality of food. We've had the crispy skin salmon and Okonomiyaki. Both dishes were beautifully presented however can be summed up with one word upon tasting - 'Oily'. <br/><br/>For the salmon, the sauce was heavy and overpowered everything else on the plate and the so-called okonomiyaki is merely a flat disc of fried flour and again over dressed with mayonnaise, you need to serve what you have on the menu.<br/><br/>The space has good ambiance but the food needs work.
Rhiannon Beck
Midweek breakfast before work. Cafe was surprisingly quiet with only the front section open for seating. Granola with acai sorbet and banana custard was refreshing. Beautiful. Hot chocolate by Mork was strong but just warm.
Billy Nguyen
Experience was pretty good, service was great and staff was very friendly. Food was okay, overall service helped it get over the line. Would recommend:)
Cassie Betteson
Au79 has the best vibe of any cafe I've been to, the atmosphere is so bright and vibrant and the food tastes as good as it feels to be there! :)
Steve Levon
Wow, I don't even know where to begin! This has become my favourite breakfast place with amazing pastries and very different renditions of all your favourite breakfast classics. Highly recommended because the flavours are as amazing as the breakfast I had...
CLABEL
Best truffle egg! It's so silky and have a strong truffle flavour, umami! The okonomiyaki is also good. It has sweet, savoury, creamy and crunchy flavour in one dish. Another one is the korean benedict, it's basically eggs benedict but they put kimchi as a base and add sriracha on the sauce which is brilliant.<br/><br/>I don't like the chicken burger/bao, as it's just like normal burger with a little dash of gold sprinkle. The coconut waffle is my least fave dish as it has funny taste and combination of the flavour, though I only like the ice cream.<br/><br/>The place is huge so you don't need to rush in the morning to go there as the queue is not that long anyway. Inside is like a tropical jungle and they have their own coffee bean roaster. Very hip place and fun to be with. Friendly staff as well. Overall it's a pleasant experience.

AU79 was on high recommendations by a friend of mine when I said that I wanted somewhere for brunch and near Richmond given that I am going to be in the area. <br/><br/>Deceiving by its location and front window, the place is actually much bigger than I thought inside. The staff was attentive and friendly. The food was great and beautifully presented. I have to say the coffee was my highlight as i loved the coffee art and also the smooth blend. <br/><br/>Food: we went for the 24hr lamb croquettes and crispy skin salmon. Anything that is cooked for 24hrs is guaranteed to be packed full of flavour and that's probably my fav dish for the day. The salmon was also cooked well and it was presented beautifully. <br/><br/>Overall, loved the place and the atmosphere, not to mention coffee and food. Parking is easy with the supermarket next door and 1hr free parking.
Donut Kill My Vibe
I came here on the weekend with my cousins on a large group table. They were so accommodating and it was only about a 5 minute wait. I had the Okonomiyaki which is a Japanese inspired pancake with a twist. It was delicious with the sweet potato crisps that gave it that texture, but felt the actual pancake was probably bordering more towards the dry side. All in all I enjoyed the dish! My pressed juice also rocked. I think there is definitely heaps of opportunity here for the cafe to really grow and build on a solid menu. Can't wait to try some of the other items! They also allow split bill which is awesome when dining in a slightly larger group. Thanks Au79 for the pleasant experience!
Food Coma Survivor
The interiors of this place made me SO happy, the tropical plants (very instagrammable) and the upbeat music puts you in a good mood. PLEASE BOOK a table if you plan to go during weekends, I did and we got to our table right away, while some waited for an hour. We ordered the burger, the baked eggs and the pan fried salmon. Every dish tasted great, but the baked eggs was over cooked and the yolks were powdery when I dug into them. I was a little annoyed that the extra chorizo was $5, way too expensive for a sausage. The salmon's skin was crispy and the flesh was perfectly cooked. I highly suggest the almond croissant after brunch with coffee, I'm still craving for it. Service was decent, but the heaters inside were radiating heat onto your skin and it felt like an oven. Although the plants are so beautiful to some fake ones at other cafes, ants were crawling around the seats and tables. Not a big deal. Would definitely come back to try the other dishes.

Firstly the coffee was great!! Onto the food, as you can see from the pics both dishes were extremely well presented. The taste was good and I'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu soon!

Of all the themes to base a cafĆ© around, Au79ā€™s owners chose gold. Those au fait with the periodic table will immediately recognise that Au and 79 are the chemical symbol and atomic number for gold ā€“ with Au79 branding engraved on most things in the cafĆ©, from the coffee cups to the coffee jug that the baristas use to steam the milk ā€“ while the rest of us will notice the gold signage embossed on the black brick building.

Great place. So much variety on the menu it was hard to choose. Service was great. It's so big in here. I had the beef brisket. While it was yum I do regret ordering such a large, heavy meal for lunch. More suitable for dinner.

My new favourite brunch spot! The waffle balls are almost too pretty to be eaten šŸ˜œ. Ordered their special (kimchi bennedict) and absolutely loved it. Worth the 45 minutes queue.

Wow! This place is HUGE! <br/>I love the whole design of this place, all the plants and the modern decor! <br/>It's also great that they have their own roastery, bakery and patisserie! I see big things for this place. <br/>The food was good but not great. Kind of simple flavours and nothing to special. The liked the salmon the most!
A Taste Of Food
Service is really good here! So is waiting time! I really love the food that is made and the portions. The matcha latte was filled with a mix of genuine matcha and milk, not too bitter just as I like it.<br/>The smoothie (we forgot the name) was filled which each and everyone of the fruits that was mentioned which was a great balance.<br/><br/>Our dishes were very nice, I had the smashed avocado and the lemon did well as a ingredient that merged all the flavours together.<br/><br/>This was a lovely dish and we both had a great experience!

As soon as you walk in you know it's going to be a special experience - the light open space with so many beautiful plants is so welcoming. Ā The ability to book on the weekend was fantastic and a rarity in Melbourne. Ā The food was delicious - I found it hard to choose what to order on the menu. Ā I went with the Okonomiyaki which was good, the smashed pea rosti was a favourite along with the bakes eggs which were in a beautiful mushroom ragu. Ā I'd definitely be back.

Able to book a table on a Saturday! The food is incredible but the service is a bit hit and miss. Whilst the staff are lovely they forget about you...we waited 10mins after being seated before having to wave a waitress over to take our coffee orders. The same thing happened again when we wanted to order food. The food took over 40mins to come so if you're starving or in a rush I'd order as soon as you sit down. The porridge was huge and great value for money. Despite the wait I'd return for the food.
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
Lizzie's first impression: Au79 is one of the more refined brunch places in Melbourne. They are relatively new so the lines on weekends can be quite long, but I think it is definitely worth trying. The interior is amazing and I came back a second time as I thoroughly enjoyed it the first, however, it wasn't as consistent as I thought it would be.<br/><br/>Lizzie enjoyed: The waffle balls on the old menu was the best waffle dish I've had of the kind as the waffle balls paired well with the pineapples, crumble and the sorbet. The okonomiyaki also struck me by surprise as it was really tasty with the crisps on top! Another dish to note was their kimchi benedict which was such a brilliant idea and the mushrooms were so yummy. Very clever dish!<br/><br/>Lizzie did not enjoy: The lamb croquettes were a little disappointing as it was on the dry side and I really did not rate the sauce or the charred beetroots? The baked eggs with chorizo was very aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but to my disappointment, there was no sauce to dip my bread in since it was soo dry and couldn't even manage to pop my yolk.<br/><br/>LIZZIE RATES overall: It is a hit or a miss depending on what you order. The staff are super friendly, especially the guy who takes our names down at the front - he had great customer service! kudos to him.

Coffee is like black gold. That may be true, but I had something more precious than coffee (God forbid) at Au79 - truffles. It was a delight to have them lusciously lathered on my scrambled eggs. Whilst this place seemed to be a little overwhelmed with the Saturday brunch time (long wait time for food, missing my companion's ordered drink), it's quite clear that much has been invested in this space to make the ambiance, coffee and food to be top notch. Love how coffee is roasted on premises and bread is baked on site. I look forward to coming back and trying other things on the menu.
Chai
Au79 is a large modern cafe in Abbotsford. I went this place on Saturday morning and too many people were waiting outside. Luckily, my friends arrived earlier and were waiting, so I was able to enter the cafe immediately. We ordered Spanish baked eggs with Chorizo and croque-madam. Both were delicious, but I don't think I want to eat the same dishes again. Because when I looked at attractive other plates lining up at the counter, I could not help wishing to try something different next visit. The coffee was great and latte art was beautiful.<br/>Our table was too bright and hot because of sunshine. Unfortunately, there was no blinds in the window to control the natural light. Otherwise, service was good and I think I would come back.<br/>
Foodie_ Melbs
Amazing food, beautifully presented. Excellent Melbourne standard coffee topped with great service, very impressed. I had read a lot about this cafe online, it is definitely not over rated. We will be back.

Found a 1 star review on Rate My Boss by one of their former employee after writing this review.Ā <br/><br/>"Wow" was the first word on our minds when we walked in this blackly painted unsuspecting former motor garage with a signage that reminded me how often I didn't pay attention in high school chemistry. Mim Design made stained cement flooring looked good and definitely nailed it in with a dash of green & gold on the side. Apart from the massive 200 seat capacity there are two glass cubes showcasing the works of a coffee roaster and pastry chefs. Not something you would normally see at a brunch spot. The soothing sight of aromatic mahogany beans spinning around the Giesen machine was very much welcomed.Ā <br/><br/>Cappuccino came in a slightly smaller cup than what I am used to but the Ron Burgundy style message (Stay Gold) within made up for it. The cafe's own blend was a bit too bitter for my taste, I took several sips and really tried to like it but to no avail. Coffee is subjective after all, rest assure that the milk wasn't burned. Ā <br/><br/>AU79 Burger came in a gorgeous white marble plate, skinny fries were literally good as gold. Good size burger, the kind I would need a knife and fork for. Beef patty tasted like medium, a bit tougher than my preferred medium rare, generous serving of pickles. The fries were definitely the highlight of this dish for me.Ā <br/><br/>Kimchi Benedict took Asian inspired to a whole new level, presentation is very instagrammable. The sourness/ bitterness/ sweetest of the kimchi went well with the neutrality of the poached eggs. Ā Probably can't taste much of the sweetness in the kimchi as the other two siblings were very overpowering. Even the mushrooms had an oriental taste to it. Compliments to the chefs!Ā <br/><br/>Spotted some delightful looking french pastries at the cashier, would be interested to sample the peanut butter opera and eclair. Can't resist having a browse around the back of the cafe and thinking hmmm we could so have our wedding here. Overall we were more taken away by the venue and how AU79 expanded the notion of what a cafe could be.Ā <br/><br/>Update:<br/><br/>Felt the cappuccino was much better in my second visit. What is wrong with the French pastries which seem to crumble so easily? Felt like we were eating melted Mars bars. Tried the peanut butter opera, eclair and some kind of cheese cake.

Came here this morning with my partner and a friend. There was a long wait for a table (30 minutes), but when we got inside we were given a lovely comfortable booth. The cafe is surprisingly big! Which makes the wait even more impressive, really! The cafe is stylish although not nearly enough homage paid to the gold element - in fact my partner and friend didn't even get the reference at all until I told them! <br/>We started with some coffees (long black and flat white) and moved on to a Green Goddess smoothie and Iced Coffee afterwards.<br/>The food is delicious- Josh had the Au79 big breakfast, my friend had the Okonomiyaki and I had the Spanish baked eggs. The flavours in the baked egg were amazing and the eggs were cooked perfectly! <br/>The staff are all incredibly friendly and attentive however service is very slow. We arrived at 10:45 and were seated at 11:15 (at which we ordered very shortly afterwards- around 11:20). We did not receive our food until 11:55. At this point, if we hadn't had all our drinks, we would have been ready to eat our arms off! <br/>I understand they're busy and there is a lot of tables but our breakfast became our lunch! <br/>Great for food, but don't come here if you're in a hurry!
Spirited Stardust
The decor truly is gorgeous. We came at 10 on a Saturday and we're seated straight away but when we left at 11 they're we're 20 people lining up outside.<br/>I had the vegan granola which was generously and gorgeously presented. But I felt it was a bit dry as I could t really mix the acai sorbet into it. <br/>Hubby had non vegan Belgium chocolate waffles and enjoyed them. I wish there were some savory vegan options on the menu.

Given this place is exciting by description we had to join every other foodie in Melbourne and visit Au79 at least once. The ambience of this place is great but on a cold day there are cold spots - we were seated at the far back wall and we had to wear our jackets.Ā I had the big breakfast which was really nice - the sausage, hash and gravy were all really tasty. The cold brew coffee I had was well below average and I didn't enjoy the long back I had either. Service was good and we didn't have to wait too long for our food at a busy time on a Saturday morning.
Nomnomfood
The decor and interior design is amazing here. Love the vibe. Been here a few times and the menu looks exciting but when we got the food it was fairly average. We have tried the truffle scramble which was a special, however this was slightly plain. Also tried the truffle croque madam, the smashed avocado and okonomiyaki which was slightly too floury.
Chef Jo
Great coffee, absolutely beautiful interior. We were originally seated at the back which was quite cold and drafty but staff happily moved us when a table became available. Food was nice but nothing amazing. I got the smashes avo - nothing was wrong with it but there was nothing wanting me to come back here again anytime soon especially with so many other options around
Melbcafegirl
Firstly I have to say I love the pink tables! Nice fit out, fairly big which fits a lot of people. We ordered the greens breakfast and the big breakfast, they tasted great. I ordered the red juice which was also tasty. The coffee was a little disappointing, quite bitter to say the least. Glad I visited.
VikL
We had to wait for almost an hour on a Sunday morning, do plan accordingly if your taking your date..! <br/><br/>Very nice ambience for a windy/cold day, might be a bit warm for those summer days but have to try it then.. I ordered a dirty chai with big brekkie and a batch brew later on.. Coffee was really good and it came with a piece of paper with coffee's name and flavors in it.. Dirty chai and breakfast was equally nice and quantity was good for the price..
Carla
Love the space! Coffee was good but food was not as delicious as it looked. Still, it's healthy which is a nice change for brunch menu. Worth checking out!!!
Stunsail
Lovely atmosphere and helpful staff in a light and breezy space. Food is delish and healthy but not in a way that makes you feel you're eating raw grain, and there are some interesting combinations and textures.
L Y
Absolutely love the food here. The interior is beautiful, and the cafe is always bustling. Decked out with a bakery and coffee roaster, it's going to be a Richmond classic. I order the same thing every time. Black Bean Hummus. Hands down one of the best brunch dishes I've had. Definite must try, you'll be back for more.
Sean Romero
The big lines outside don't lie. The people come to pan for gold, and there's plenty to be found here. The menu is fresh, the coffee good and service warm, which is lead by GM Robin Shepherd, who greeted us at the door. This place is huge, with more than 200 seats (so the lines move quick), a rostery and a bakery. The design is light, subtle and very well thought out. I tried to Bonito eggs, which were interesting, although not particularly photogenic (as you'll see from the photo), but hey, food is there to be eaten, right?. Overall, very enjoyable, with only points lacking were due to constant issues in trying to get the attention of staff who walked by with no eye contact. Never mind, I'll be back for some more of that gold!
Happyley
Will never return. Had the truffled croque monsieur which literally had no truffle taste. Was extremely soggy in the middle and did not taste fresh at all. Okonomiyaki was just deep fried flour batter with some vegetables inside and no flavour. Only plus side here is the coffee is nice and grinded on site and the environment looks good. Couple of hours after I ate here I still had an awful aftertaste but what was worst is that I was in the toilet with a nasty case of the runs, so was my friend who shared the dishes with me. I wish I could say service was good but they got 2 of my orders wrong. I hope this place improves. I think at the moment it's popularity is due to the fact that there are minimal options in its vicinity.
Jess
Came to this place typically for their beautiful interior. There was a huge line outside the cafe but we only waited 20 minutes which was pretty good. The food and drinks came out really fast. I ordered the okonomiyaki, the looked as good as it tastes. The proportion size was pretty good as well. Pretty cheap for the amount of food you get. Can't forget about their cold pressed juice. I got the Stress Less. It was so refreshing, light and smooth
Andrew Nguyen
We went on a Saturday morning and waited 20 minutes as there was a decent line. Food was quick to come out though once we were seated. I had the au79 burger which was delicious and not too heavy. Coffee and juices were very good too.

Au79 is the megalopolis of the cafe sphere. The 200-seater could well-fit several of Melbourneā€™s more modest cafes.A glass 'enclosure' houses the in-house baker, kneading bread and pastries, to scare away the gluten-free crowd. You know what they say, 'you can rob a bank with a bagel, these days'. An in-house roastery, run by Minekazu Hirayama, turns out the house blend. The kitchen pass is a thriving hub of activity, churning out dishes, with an Asian spin. To the naked eye, this is...

Modern seating areas, it's like walking into a green house. Asian infused brunch and lunch menu.<br/><br/>Do: Book a table. Try the Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancakes), nice almond milk coffees, Dessert Calamansi Dome (hybrid citrus/kumquat mousse, lychee liquid center with pistachio daquiose)<br/><br/>Don't: forget to buy the beautifully crafted breads T/A Recommend the Fruit bread (favorite), Olive and Rosemary and the Sweet potato and garlic. Delicious!<br/>

Loved how big the cafe was and how we could pick anywhere we wanted to sit. The coffee was amazing but what really got me tl have a fantastic experience was the green tea and lemon cake in their cake stand. It was divine will be heading back there!!

The AU79 just opened last April 2017. This cafe owned by CCC Group that has extensive experiences in the cafe business. CCC Group also owns Addict Food & Coffee, Sir Charles, Liar Liar and Prospect Espresso.Ā AU79 "Good as Gold" has great interior design with the high quality materials, bright, modern, sleek and also greeny with additional hanging ferns on the ceiling and other plants.<br/><br/>They know how to treat their customers, the customer staffs were very attentive, friendly and cheerful. We've got a very good impression as soon as we arrived to this cafe. Hopefully it will be part of their business culture and not because of they're a new player in the cafe business to attract new customers.<br/><br/>We came for a lunch and ordered a signature burger Au79 Burger (Wagyu beef patty, mac and cheese, bacon, jack cheese, pickles, tomato, lettuce, ijonnaise and fries) for $20.00.Ā <br/>I know $20.00 for a burger is pretty expensive but if you look at the size and portion of the burger, it was massive.<br/><br/>The Wagyu beef patty was cooked perfectly, great presentation and generous portion. They used a small pot to serve the fries which was a creative idea. Fries were also fresh, we enjoyed and really made a great choice. We would certainly come back to try some other dishes.<br/><br/>Yay : Spacious *plenty seats available, great interior design, great customer service, great value<br/>Nay : N/A<br/><br/>**Food**<br/>Service : 4.5<br/>Price : 4.0<br/>Taste : 4.5<br/><br/>We came again to try coffee (mocha) for $4.00, it was great - balance between coffee and chocolate, absolutely fantastic. DO: Anything you want really? The menu is pretty extensive. However can't go wrong with the burger, lamb croquettes or crispy skin salmon. <br/><br/>DON'T: Forget the coffees and delicious desserts baked fresh every morning. <br/><br/>TIP: Parking is atrocious. I parked at Woollies for FREE :)

AU79 is probably the most popular cafe now. Everyone seems to talk about it that I had to try it myself! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the interior design. The food was great. Overall, it was a great brunch experience. <br/><br/>The only thing that may need improvement is the service. The cafe probably needs more staffs as we were served our water 10 minutes later & I was waving for a good 10 minutes til one of the waiter saw me.
Jae Papalia
Au79 definitely one of the best cafes around. Fit out is a+, service is decent and food is really good. I had the kimchi benny and it was probably one of the best breakfasts I have had in a long time. Matcha latte was good but I've definitely had better. I would come here again for sure!
Little Picky Very Hungry
This has to be the most popular cafe in town recently, everyone is hype about it. So Letā€™s do the first brunch after finals here! šŸ’¢We literally surrounded by pitted plants which reminds me of the infamous Grounds of Alexandria. Iā€™m amazed by how they transformed an old garage to a beautiful greenhouse šŸŒ²šŸƒšŸŒ“šŸŒ±šŸŒæ<br/>.<br/>AU79 BIG BREAKFAST ($20) was just standard big brekkie you can expect. Mushroom and sausage was quite nice.<br/>.<br/>24 HOUR BRAISED LAMB CROQUETTES ($20) was alright, but there are rooms for improvement, salad dressing were overly too much with raw carrot slidesšŸ„•šŸ„•šŸ„•, which makes the dish a bit chewyšŸ°instead they could put more green salad, but I have to point out that orange purĆ©e was excellent match with the lambšŸŠšŸ‘šŸ»<br/>.<br/>AU79 BURGER ($20) šŸ”with fries was quite nice, but it just tastes like the Maccaā€™s cheeseburger. Was expecting more for the high price :(<br/>.<br/>COFFEE was average, would be better if itā€™s stronger.<br/>.<br/>Overall not impressed with the menu and coffee, I guess my expectations was too high. A nice interior just wasnā€™t good enough to attract returning customers. Much improvement needed!
Melbourniancritic (The Melbourne Experience)
AU79 is a welcome addition to Collingwood. Ā ThisĀ recently opened cafe is not just a specialty boutique roaster and cafe, itā€™s also a 200 seater eatery, bakery and patisserie combined. With a food ethos of oven to table, you can expect a deliciously innovativeĀ range of fresh pastries, sweet treats and all day brunch options created with a stunning combination of fresh ingredients, flavours & textures.
Foodelicious
New eatery but was disappointed with the service and food. We waited for a long time to order our coffee and another 15 mins to receive the coffee only to find the temperature of our coffee cold. The service was terrible. Not interested in refilling our water bottle. The food was just fair. Hamburger- the meat was fry, bonito flake croquettes- dry.Won't be going back in a hurry.
Nathan Brown
The venue was unfortunately overhyped for me. Though I love the plants, the design and materials of the interiors made for an incredibly loud dining experience. The service was very friendly, but we were asked by four separateĀ servers - in close succession - whether we were ready to order. This seems to imply a complete lack of system in table service.Ā The food may be the biggest disappointment with the dish featuring cauliflower falling drastically flat in terms of texture and flavour. The combination didn't seem to have much of a balanced dynamic with the star component ending up strangely being the beautiful sourdough.Ā On the upside, the coffee cannot be faulted. In time, I hope this venue is able to iron out its faults.

Coffee beans roasted on site. Baked goods baked on site. Awesome chefs making yum foods on site. Can't flaw this place, oh and it's epically huge! This old garage warehouse converted cafe / greenhouse ticks all the boxes from atmosphere, food, coffees, and service. The menu has a range of the usual suspects with a quirky twist. We had the granola with coyo and the kimchi Benedict. Both dishes left us feeling super satisfied and already planning our next visit to try more from the menu.
Kim Truong
The interior is sensational, the greenery around and spacious layout is impressive. The food however I would say isn't memorable. The truffled scrambled eggs which was on the specials menu was a little too runny for my liking but the truffles through it were generous. The plants inside the cafe are beautiful but also attract insects which got stuck in my eggs which I had to fish out which made the meal more disappointing. <br/><br/>It was a Sunday morning so the wait was about 30mn and the place was packed to the brim. We ordered straight away upon being seated but that took another 30 or so, worth a try but wouldn't be rushing back.
Jac
Seeing the open decor filled with lush greenery all around made Au79 very inviting and somewhere to relax for a brunch date. Personally ordered the okonomyaki (Japanese pancake) which tasted awesome. Loved how the sweet potato crisps and yuzu mayo complemented the pancake really well along with the fried eggplant. Only thing I would change if I was being really picky would be to have less of the soy/hoisin sauce which was quite rich and strong in flavour so having too much can be overpowering. <br/><br/>Smashed Avo was also enjoyable and a refined version of the many others that I've had. The twist of having the kale chips was also a great addition and gave the dish a crunchy element as well as a healthy component. <br/><br/>Crispy skin salmon, like the others, also tasted great with the salmon cooked and seasoned well; still pink in the middle and not overcooked. The puffed grains were really well cooked and a perfect accompaniment to the salmon. <br/><br/>Drinks- red juice (watermelon, strawberry, mint) was really refreshing however was moreso watermelon juice than anything. Chocolate milkshake was really good; nice and rich and had the perfect viscosity.
MelbourneGirl35
Booked a table here to celebrate a friends birthday- keen to see what all the Instagram fuss was about. <br/>The huge expensive fitout is impressive- especially the back part of the restaurant, stunning greenery. <br/>Coffee was good (when it finally arrived, took nearly 20mins...) overall however, disappointing experience. The staff are lacklustre & don't seem super happy to be there, the food (all 4 of us had different meals) was just ok - the menu is actually quite complicated & the dishes are not 'standard breakfast fare' so most of us found it slightly over-the-top. My group all found it hard to choose a dish & the staff weren't overly helpful when asked a few questions for clarification.<br/>While the fitout is great & i'm sure will appeal to some, it lacks warmth & real vibe, won't be back, not my kind of place...

Excellent place for brunch. Love their menu which has a lot of selections for vegetarian. Ambience and everything is great. The Korean pancakes are good and filling. Must try for first time comers!

Evident by numerous articles and instagram posts I made a judgment and came today to see what all the fuss was about. <br/><br/>Before entering I thought this place was dead however when I entered this warehouse looking cafe it was absolutely overcrowded. <br/><br/>Barely ever waiting for a table at most of my brunch spots my brother and I decided to put our names down. The attendant did say it was approximately a 45 mins wait, which I thought was ok. <br/><br/>Another couple popped in each and every minute that we were waiting and the wait got even longer. It felt like I was waiting forever since we both got a table. <br/><br/>57 mins later we were finally seated at the back which was at the end of the block. Ambience for this place I have to admit was top grade. Various live plants, tables, booths and greenery was a great touch. Beautifully thought our brunch gathering. <br/><br/>Prior to arrival my brother and I already knew what we wanted and ordered the below things: <br/><br/>Food: <br/>ā€¢ Belgium Waffle Balls<br/>ā€¢ Roasted Cauliflower Smash (+ bacon)<br/>ā€¢ Chips + Aoili<br/><br/>Beverages:<br/>ā€¢ Prana Chai<br/>ā€¢ Mork Hot Chocolate<br/><br/>To start the Belgium Waffle Balls came out which my brother ordered. It was congested with various fruit flavours which matched perfectly with the balls. The waffle balls themselves were fluffy and did taste great. Passionfruit cream suited the dish swimmingly and over swarming banana compote and crumb was pure genius. Pandan ice cream brought the whole dish together and deceased the sugar flavour. All in all, an brilliantly invented dish with transcendent flavours.<br/><br/>Craving cauliflower I decided to get the smash with added bacon. A huge portion of bacon was added which I thought was promising and then I tried the cauliflower smash and I was in heaven. The spice amount entailed in this dish was not compensated at all. Poached eggs were perfectly done, all accompaniments tasted excellent. My only knit pick was the bread was a little hard to slice but other than that I loved everything on my plate. <br/><br/>Side of chips with aoili made way next and what a beautifully batch of fries. The spice that the chips were tossed in was delicious. Normally not being of French fries, these were my exception. They tasted great on their own without the sauce. However when matched with the aoili sauce they affected my palette in such a good way. Top-class fries in my opinion. <br/><br/>Now for the drinks, I made a judgement and got a Prana Chai. Getting told by a colleague, Prana was the Bugatti of chai (expensive). Probably the most pure and texturally natural chai's I've ever tasted. Did not have any generic rich and sugar components at all. Bitter flavour and uplifting tasting notes of masala, you could tell it didn't have anything artificial. A delectable drink on all fronts, furthermore was presented with class and grace.<br/><br/>My brother ordered his usual hot chocolate and of course when he sees Mork it's his go too. He was pleasantly gratified with his selection.<br/><br/>Note: Two criticism I have to point out with the cafe. <br/><br/>~ When seated the table water was not cold (not even room temp) at all and was not pleasant to consume, it may have been because it was left on the table and the sunlight was shining on it for a while, but was a huge surprise for me.<br/><br/>~ Don't get me wrong having lots of plants inside did bring lots of oxygen however where my brother and I were sitting their were ample flies and bugs around which wasn't a pleasant site for brunch. <br/><br/>Ending a charming destination for brunch with extraordinary food and drinks for one souls however be prepared for around an hour wait on Sunday.

Lovely space! Lots of space, light, greenery, and well considered interior. Nice staff. Good coffee. <br/>Loooong wait on weekends. Food is nothing special, but not bad. Good location, as there's not much else around in that block of that calibre.
Melbrunchin
Beautiful cafe, decor is really well done and the size of it is massive. One thing I'm unsure of is there seemed to be a fair bit of bugs from all the plants. But other than that food was nice and coffee was smooth.

Awesome joint....the food was absolutely delicious and the interiors are clean and creative. Certainly somewhere I would come back to. Also the best tumeric latte ever made!

OMG AMAZING. The interior decorating is so beautiful and I can't believe how big it is šŸ˜® the granola was amazing- best granola I've had out and the unique combo of the acai sorbet on top was a great addition and made the dish! At $14.00 I was very surprised with the generous portion also! Highly recommend getting this dish!<br/>The smashed avo was also delicious and unlike any that I have had which is great because I have had it so many times and it was good to see a different version! The dish just went together perfectly!<br/>I am definitely coming back here and I recommend it to anyone! The prices were great for the servings we were given and the presentation and quality of the food! <br/>The service was also great and the staff were lovely šŸŒŸāļøšŸŒŸāļøāœØšŸ“

As expected, there was a nice long wait for Saturday brunch. We arrived just after midday and waited around 45 minutes. Although I noticed when seated that the service was fairly inefficient (or just understaffed) as there were more than a few tables empty at all times. We were waved to our table and received no service for around 15 minutes, unfortunately. The food itself didn't take too long to come out. The truffled croque madame was pretty nice. The smoked bonito croquettes as a dish was a bit let down by some of the elements. The avocado pieces were really really dry and a bit hard, so quite unpleasant. The croquettes were well made, but I personally didn't think the dryness of the bonito worked well inside a croquette. The pickled cabbage was also unexpectedly bland. We also took two cakes to enjoy later. I loved the peanut butter opera, which had some great layers that were delicious together. The calamansi dome dessert was also really yum. I was quite impressed with their in house desserts.

Visited AU79 with 5 friends on a Sunday morning. We arrived at 9.30am to ensure that we wouldn't need to wait too long to get a table. Surprisingly there was no wait at all. We were all shocked at how big the place is and how many seats there were.<br/>We were seated at the back on a round table. It was ever so slightly small when there were coffees and meals on the table. As beautiful as the plant decor was, the plants were quite annoying overhanging into the seat area. They also brought with them a lot of tiny flies. <br/>Between us we ordered the smashed avo, croque monsieur, okonomiyaki, kimchi benedict, big breakfast and the bircher muesli. <br/>The croque monsieur although seeming to be one of the more simple dishes was packed full of flavour. The kimchi benedict was such a delicious variation of a common, traditional dish and the okonomiyaki was a really great unique brunch dish. <br/>We all agreed that it was a place that we would like to return to.

> Smashed Avocado with salted ricotta, chilli dukkah, rice crisps + fresh lime poached eggs on toasted rye sourdough with a side of bacon AND Korean veggie benedict with kimchi, eggplant, poached eggs with a side of bacon <<br/><br/>Since the spectacular launch party of AU79, we have been meaning to come down, try some delicious food and enjoy the atmosphere. This cafĆ© is one of a kind and incomparable to any other around Melbourne. With an incredibly large space, holding over 200 guests, Robin has utilised every square meter, creating a vibrant and unique atmosphere. You are able to have a different experience at each end of the cafĆ©, which is great because you can sit in a quieter area and read a book, or have a chat in another area.Ā <br/><br/>The food is exceptionally delicious and you can see the passion that was put into each element of every meal. After consuming so many sweet dishes, we decided it was time to have a savoury dish. The smashed avocado is massive and has a very generous amount of avocado, which is great to see because not many places serve a lot avocado. This dish has so many incredible elements present, with the salted ricotta being creamy, and the eggs being cooked to perfection. The bread is a little crunchy, which made it a little hard to cut, but we believe that if the dish as a whole is yummy, then a minor issue like this does not determine the overall judgement of the dish. <br/>The Korean veggie benedict was another great dish and was extremely filling. The kimchi gave the dish a nice kick of flavour and spice, which complemented the mushrooms really nicely. The sauce was another great element, it was not too overpowering but quite sweet, which tied the entire dish together.<br/><br/>Our experience with the service was better than most. When we walked in we were welcomed by more than one staff member and were given options of where to sit. This gave us a positive vibe as we felt appreciated and not just another number. The food came out relatively fast and staff were very attentive throughout our stay. <br/>Every element of this cafĆ© is incredible and words cannot describe how well everything was planned and spaced out. We can 100% agree with their catchphrase that they are just as good as gold<br/><br/>The breakfastpiggy team
An
Stunning interior. The pastries looked amazing will be back to try. Service was nice and reasonably efficient. My meal was incredible. I can't even imagine/don't want too imagine what goes into the scrambled eggs. Something else...

Melbourne has great brunch spots, the good ones require a bit of a wait. So the question is, is Au79 worth the wait?<br/><br/>No, it's not.<br/><br/>For every pro his place has, there's a con. The food is good, although nothing on the menu is notable. The service was friendly, but the food took almost 40 minutes to arrive.<br/><br/>Would I go again? <br/><br/>Not for brunch, no. But the Bakery out the back is pretty good. Skip the lines and the wait, and pick up Cake.
Olivia
Hit and miss. The food was pretty standard brunch fare. Nothing really special or memorable although very well presented. My red juice was rather disappointing as there must have been some fruit in it that had gone off so I didn't get to drink it. Really wanted this place to be good as it is so close to us.

We came here for a Sunday breakfast. It's a new place, with a lot of staff that looked like they are still in training mode. We ordered our coffee and food. The coffee was reasonable, drinkable. The waitress attempted to take our orders without writing it down and it turned out her memory wasn't as good as she believed to be. While everything else had arrived, one of the sides were missing. The waitress said it will be right out, unfortunately, we were not going to be waiting for it to a point which our breakfasts turned cold. We moved on and went to pay, to my surprise, nowadays technology doesn't seem to talk to each other. How could one computer takes the order; and the information is not linked to the cashier? In a modern cafe, this is not good enough. After three confusion and crossed conversation amongst the wonderful staff, an amount came up, to our surprise, it wasn't the amount that the waitress claimed it would be initially (given that she made an error on the order). After 15 minutes of time wasted, we managed to pay what we should pay and got out of there. My goodness, there's still lots of work to do there!

I like this place because of the decor ā€“ They've put in a lot of effort to make this cafĆ© feel and look stunning (and thank you plants for your amazing oxygen!). The first time I went there was with a friend and we had a good time, drinks were not bad and service was okay. I went back again with my sister and unfortunately I couldn't say the same for the service. The lady at the cashier took her own sweet time to serve one customer (they seemed to know each other personally). I honestly felt that it was quite rude of her to stand there, chatting away to this customer, while me and a whole line of people were waiting to pay for our meals. I was in a bit of a rush that day and literally had to stand there for a good 10 minutes until she was finished chatting. There was no apology and no "I'm really sorry to keep you waiting". Service should be improved.<br/> <br/><br/>p.s. please consider having some vegan desserts too! Au79 does healthy foods and drinks, so why leave dessert out?

Definitely the new brunch place! So beautiful from the from then the more you walk in the better it gets! So spacious and green feels like a conservatory with indoor plants. The wait on a Saturday is reasonable 45 minutes price was good and the food was super scrumptious wanted to try everything! <br/><br/>The counter items looked stunning and I purchased a sourdough for later and it is beautiful haven't had a decent sour dough in awhile! Will definitely come again!

Food (7/10): I ordered a soy matcha latte and the smashed avocado with extra field mushrooms on the side. The smashed avocado was very filling which consisted with a fair amount of avocado and ricotta. The meal was pretty average and does not stand out to other brunch places. My friend ordered the big breakfast and said it was average and nothing special. <br/><br/>Service (6/10): the waiter didn't repeat our order and that resulted in an error in our order. I ordered a soy matcha latte but instead a soy mocha latte was brought out. Then they replaced that with a matcha latte with regular milk which I didn't notice until we paid for our meal. I have an allergy to cows milk which gave me eczema on my face and a really upset stomach after the meal. <br/><br/>Ambience (8/10): this place is full of plants which makes it a very beautiful place to sit in for lunch. It is also incredibly spacious compared to other brunch places I've been to. I'm kind of confused with how the plants and natural theme fits in with "gold", which is the meaning of the name of this brunch place.<br/><br/>Verdict: worth checking out once for the hype but don't expect outstanding dishes. I personally wouldn't go again as there was a 20-30 minute wait for a table for two.

I was first this morning - and even they did not serve food yet when I arrived I could have a seat got served with coffee and water and once they been ready the very lovely staff am- who advised me of the warmest place in the house on a of Melbourne morning - came and took my order! Ordered of the specials menu and have to say the truffled scrambled eggs have just been amazing! Generous portion of truffle and a generous portion of the extra ordered spinach... <br/>Love the open space with the view into the kitchen!

Coffee is shit! Food is pretty decent. Bit of an insect problem due to dining amongst the amazon rainforest. Venue is like eating in a canteen.

Tried Au79 couple of weeks ago after getting through the long waiting line to see what the hype is about. This place is huge and the decor is impressive. I had the truffled croque madame... I thought it was average, nothing amazing. My friend ordered the Au burger, which was also average.. the fries looked like Macca's fries and were cold. Not very impressed.
Fanny Foodie
Very modern place colourful and full of life with a lot of beautiful dishes to try. Had the awesome truffle croque madame and i loved it. Very good service and the place is so perfect !! The staff is lovely super friendly and super nice !!
GG
LOVE! Attentive and genuine service! Shout out to Mia thank you for taking over when I couldn't decide what to eat!! Care taken with presentation both in food & drinks. Menu is interesting & has great variation on the classics. The space is stunning loads of natural light and greenery. Will be back!

I was waiting for au79 to open because I'm a neighbour and the fit out looks amazing. Everything looks amazing but it doesn't deliver when we talk about the food. I've went twice for food and several times for coffee and everything looks beautiful but it taste very average. The coffee is very irregular and depends on the barista that is that day. Another instagram place unfortunately. No seasoning and brain in the dishes.

Went on Sunday with a few friends - staff were very attentive and accomodating. Food and drinks were delicious. Was able to make a booking which was a big plus (and pay separately +++). Only downside was they put six of us in a booth which meant we had little table space, but I did also request somewhere other than the communal pink tables so quite possible that was the only other area available. Also the fruit flies were a little annoying but not too noticeable. Would definitely return.

Arrived on a Saturday at 11:30am. Full house, waited 15 mins till we got seated. The venue + decor was bright and beautiful with good vibes. I ordered the Korean veggie benedict ($18) which was delicious! Loved the sauce and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Partner ordered the Okonomiyaki ($18) which was also yum. The pancake was crispy, had good amounts of mayo, yummy eggplant tempura and crispy sweet potato ! Presentation was nice too. Would definitely revisit. The coffees were okay, I've had better. Overall a great variety on the menu. Breakfast/brunch with an Asian twist. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal.
Melbourne Explorer
Great new spot on Abbotsford's busy Nicholson Street. Ā Contemporary Australian brunch menu with plenty of Asian fusion, from Kimchi to coconut pannacotta.<br/><br/>Definitely worth a try, but get in quick, this will soon become Melbourne's new go to brunch spot.

Came to this place on a Saturday so there was a line; we waited 20 minutes. The table we sat at was not yet cleaned so there were crumbs still on the table, there were a lot of flies from the potted plants so we moved to a different table. Even after moving, a fly landed on my poached egg... <br/>Service was standard. Our cutleries and cups weren't very clean. We ordered the burger and the big breakfast; burger patty was dry and fries were overcooked but the sausage from the big breakfast was delicious! <br/>Noticed many people spend a lot of time taking photos here and that's a given since presentation of the dishes are superb with very nice warehouse-conversion vibe. Shame the plants brings in so many flies because they really do look good in this setting.
Georgia
The space was incredible and the staff were very attentive. We were in and out within 40mins which we like as we are efficient people. My husband and I were thoroughly unimpressed with the coffee. He ordered a long black and we actually sent it back because it tasted sour, they happily replaced it for us but came back the same. They need to work on the flavours of their roast, not sure if they are going for the sour cherry flavour or not but even if they are it's way off mark. The food was out within 10 minutes after ordering and was really lovely. I got the smashed avo with bacon and hubby got the big breakfast. Both had good portioning and were delicious. We got some take away sweets and they were beautiful as well, especially the passionfruit tart. We will definitely be back for food but will be getting a coffee from somewhere else beforehand!<br/><br/>

Big and beautiful space. Waiting for the table on the weekday at around 12.30 was about 15-20minutes which exceptional. Service was good, staff are friendly and the host was polite. Coffee was nice, food is good too but not woww. Overall is positive here and definitely will be back.
Ross Crisp
Possibly the most popular and over-rated day-time cafe in Melbourne. Coffee good, service good. Too big too noisy and the food is nothing spectacular.
George David Michaelides
Came here on the weekend and tried the big breakfast and some okonomiyaki, both were absolutely delicious I could not fault them, decor is lovely inside, like walking into a slightly more organised Matt blatt store. Only down mark, is the half hour of wait only to be seated and realise that there were many empty tables around us. It's almost like this was done on purpose to make the place seem busy to people passing by
Mary Walker
This new cafe, in a building that used to be a garage, is big and 'airy', great in a Melbourne winter :-(.Ā  The food is good, the staff are lovely but it's too expensive for this area.
Le_orange
Unpleasant food & coffee today. Ordered the black bean hummus and the whole dish was dense in texture and flavours did not compliment the eachother. Also ordered was the cauliflower smash, which was served cold and overloaded in pickled cauliflower. Both dishes left half eaten. Informed the waitress of our disappointment and there was barely an acknowledgement. The decor was amazing in this place; however, we would have no desire return again.

Public Holiday, queues outside . We only had to wait 20mins for a table of 4, the staff and matre d were very accomodating. <br/>Two of us ordered the gf option Wagyu beef burger and fries- nothing spectacular at all - the burger was cooked well done, instead of medium and was dry and quite small considering it was around the $20 mark. Fries were somewhat cold , the burger was too, the fries scattered and broken around the plate . It had obviously been sitting at the pass for a while . Presentation average .<br/><br/>The cauliflower smash was beautifully presented , very flavoursome and tasty . I like the pickle onions which were fresh and crunch, cutting through the saltiness of the dish. The croque Monsieur was rich and satisfying , it was a highlight . <br/>Croissant was fresh and yum, hangover juice was too, and the coffee good. <br/>Ambience and natural light in the big open space was great, the background music was good too. Service was great. <br/><br/>I'd definitely come back here again, just not for the burgers .
Soph
I've been here twice now and both times I really enjoyed the food. I had the okinamiyaki and waffle balls; both really unique and tasty. Love the decor and all the greenery. Both times I arrived at 11am and had to wait for around 20 minutes, so expect a bit of a wait if you're not there early. My friend said the mocha was the best she'd had in ages. Definitely worth a try!
Kasia Popiołek
Excellent spot for Sunday brunch. Lots of seating space so we didn't have to wait long for the table. Coffee was very good and so was the food. I ordered Korean Eggs Benedict, which was a funky twist on the original recipe. Not too spicy and a very generous portion. Friends ordered smashed avo and the big breakfast- we all satisfied our cravings. Food was served in a beautiful form and we would definitely come back for more.
Yuling Wang
Nice setup. Coffee was bit bitter which is not my type. Food was interesting taste but was too heavy for me. Didn't try the cakes. Because wasn't impressed me to pay money for it. Should have more fancy staff to match the place. Was not bad experience.
Tomlovestoeat
Jaysus!! What a place, beautiful fit out which a truckload of natural light. Was welcomed at the door by a very friendly and attentive waitress. I went for the big breakfast with a side of bacon and a soy flat white. The Cumberland sausages that came with the breakfast were spot on and brought me home with one bite, delicious. Would be a new go to on days off, it's just on the wrong side of the city for me but will definitely return.

Good food and coffee. Spectacular dining atmosphere in naturally lit warehouse setting. But they need to work on the service levels. If you're going to run an eatery that size, make sure you have the staff to service it in a timely fashion.<br/><br/>We did wait a very long time to be seen just at the door only to be informed that the booking we'd called and made the day before was not in their system. We then waited quite some time for our orders to be taken and for our food to come out.
Kein
Bustling, busy breakfast crowd. Ample seating, you should be able to get in without reservations. Wagyu burger was decent, didn't have to wait too long for our food. Rest of food was not too spectacular: waffle balls, egg benedict. Would probably head over to Three Bags Full next time.

5/5 cause this place is an absolute gem I mean gold šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ this place cannot be faulted from the food to drinks this place did not disappoint. Usually cafe food just taste average not much flavor but this place is so goood. You guys are awesome! Will come back to try the other foods

I would recommend anyone to give this brunching cafe, or should I say mini warehouse, a try! the interior decor here is breath taking, bright and light, fresh vibes with pot plants and groovy music. amazing customer service, very attentive and friendly. if you aren't dining in, do check out their freshly baked breads and desserts made in their cute little bakery in store! my favorite thing here have got the be the hash browns that came with the big breakfast mmmmm.
Jean
Place was too big, maybe would be nice for an event. If you're not sitting in a corner table, you would be in the middle of a very busy setting (absolutely not comfortable). <br/><br/>Was in the waiting line for 30mins plus, when the girl called out my name she barely even gave me 30s to walk from the outside to the inside to tell them I'm there before giving my table away to someone else. <br/><br/>Food options personally wasn't great at al, very very limited. I had the salmon and my friend had the big breakfast, very ordinary for a Melbourne brunch place.
Charlene
Ordered big breakfast x 2. I was quite disappointed with the portion and what's included - not creative and satisfying enough for the price we paid. Mushroom was pretty bland, and I had better potato hash before. Sausage was just average. Also I reckon might be a good idea to have a slice of bread too instead of croutons. <br/><br/>On a positive note, really nice setting though.
Julie
Went in on a Friday afternoon and was seated pretty quickly and without fuss. I had the lamb croquettes and a coffee. The coffee was not to my taste (although it probably is more to other people's tastes). The lamb croquette was very hearty (bordering on greasy), and could have done with more variety in taste. It was all just carrot. Sooo much carrot. The interior is very nice, somewhat impersonal but bright and airy. They were kind enough to leave me alone for a couple of hours while I typed away on my laptop (I hate when cafes rush you out the door -- although I suspect this might change when business starts booming). I'll give it another go.
Mellowfeels
The ambience was really nice. Bright and airy. We were seated at the front though after walking around i think I would request to be seated at the back next time. We ordered the crispy skin salmon and the burger. The salmon was really good and i loved the barley with it. The burger was nothing to shout about though the fries were really good. Overall it was a good experince. Staff were friendly and calm even though the place was packed. Coffee was good. On a side note the toilets are really cute. Love terrazzo! Will definitely be back!
Wandering Ella
I loved the ambience of Au79. The pools of natural light from the windows and the abundance of hanging plants neatly scattered about make me feel like I'm in the middle of a minimalistic oasis. Excellent presentation of the dishes. The food was mostly great, just needing a few tweaks here and there. Here's what I tried:<br/><br/>Truffled Croque Monsieur<br/>I had heard good things about this dish so I was looking forward to eating it. Although it was good and the cheese was gloriously stretchy and the bread hitting just the right level of crispness, the combination left this sour aftertaste that I didn't particularly enjoy. I think there was just a little too much 'sour' from the pickled mushroom and the sourdough.Ā <br/><br/>Smoked Bonito Croquettes<br/>Sounds really good on paper and was presented beautifully on the plate. While each element was really good on its own, altogether it just felt like there was too much going on. The competing 'pow!' of flavours was a little too overwhelming for me - the smokiness of the bonito, competing with the saltiness of the guac and the acidity of sauerkraut. I loved the red mojo sauce but I it's beautiful smokiness was just defeated by everything else. The poached eggs did wonders to mellow everything out though - in the best way possible.Ā <br/><br/>Belgian Waffle Balls<br/>These 'Belgian waffle balls' are basically profiteroles with passionfruit curd. There are some parts that I love - the 'fruity' components of the dish, like the passionfruit curd, the banana compote and the bits of pineapple were wonderful additions to the profiteroles. The white crumbs and the 'pandan' ice cream, however, was just a tad weird in texture. Besides that, a great attempt at an Asian-fusion desert!

Just a week before when I heard about AU79 was about to open, I was having a quick brunch with a dear friend discussing about future brunch places to go to. I opened up my Instagram, and there was a sponsored post from AU79 and I thought to myself - okay, this looks interesting. A good set of dishes to try out, a bit of Asian influence, and they provide their own coffee brand. So I decided. I will give AU79 a try!!<br/>Two weeks later (one week after its opening) I finally got the chance to go. Surprinsingly enough it is only just a hundred metres away from Three Bags Full, so that provides a bit of competition. Upon entering, you donā€™t know how spacious this cafĆ© is (yes it caters up to 200 people) and how beautiful it is the further you walk down to the far end and it feels as that youā€™ve just entered a botanical garden. Iā€™ve seen good and vibrant cafes in my lifetime, but nothing like this.<br/>Anyway, it didnā€™t take long for me to wait and was served immediately. As the usual, Iā€™d get the Magic, but unfortunately it tasted bitter. Already, the signs are pointing down.<br/>I started off with the Roasted Cauliflower Smash, which I thought it was quite nice. And finally I still had a bit of room and ordered the Belgian Waffle Balls with Pandan Ice Cream, custard, passionfruit, and pineapple, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Love the sweet and savoury flavours that come together, especially the passionfruit, pineapple and the pandan which made the difference.<br/>At the end of the day, Iā€™d love to come back and try more of the menu with plenty of varieties to choose from ā€“ coffee however still needs plenty of work to do. I had heard about this new brunch venue that had opened recently, so decided to try it out with a couple of girlfriends. The decor of the place was really lovely, and the service was decent too. The food was absolutely amazing! We all loved our meals, I had the okonomiyaki which had so much flavour and was a standout amongst previous meals I've eaten. It has to be one of the best brunch spots I've been to in Melbourne, and I've been to my fair share. If you go on a weekend, make sure to get there early because by the time we left at 11, the line was insanely long.
Farzana
We decided to try out this new place, on the recommendation of a food-savvy friend. Ā And what an impressive choice it was! Ā Don't let first glances deceive you - this cafe is seriously spacious. Ā It just keeps going and going, with fresh glasshouse-inspired decor all throughout. Ā As a result of the size, wait times aren't as long as you'd expect. Ā We were seated within 15-20mins of arrival. Ā That said, Au79 could take a leave out of many trendy cafes and improve their queue game - the samples of sweet potato garlic bread was a pleasant touch, but something like a portable coffee cart for the queues outside would not go amiss. Ā <br/><br/>The menu has obvious Asian influences - thinking Korean, Japanese and lashings of coconut/pandan. Ā Coffee is quite good - though the matcha and golden lattes seem to be the focus here. Ā Staff are incredibly hospitable and friendly - adding to the fun environment. Ā Overall, a golden place for brunch and one that will continue to be a favourite, I'm sure.
IsFoodIsGood
My new favourite! <br/>There was a bit of a queue outside AU79 when we arrived but it was only a 20min wait which was great! They also had a platter of sourdough bread with olive oil for people who were waiting which was a very nice and welcome touch.<br/>We were seated and menu ready with water also.<br/>Staff were very friendly and attentive.<br/>I ordered the Smashed Avo. The crispy kale was so yum but unfortunately, I couldn't get the chilli dukkah because of my allergy to peanuts.<br/>It was delicious and so was the matcha latte.<br/>Want to try more from the menu so will definitely be back after a great experience!<br/>I have been back there and ordered the Smoked Bonita Croquettes with the salsa.<br/>It was served on one half of the plate... as if the waitress had a slip and all the food slid to one slide of the plate... I appreciate that this is arty and different but I was wondering where the other half of my meal was. šŸ˜‚<br/>Still tasty! I'm
Elle
Impressive. Great buzzy atmosphere- get there early or else you will need to join the queue (worth it though). Interesting menu with an Asian influence-Japanese, Korean etc. Tasty food, well prepared correctly taken orders and a feeling that you aren't rushed. <br/><br/>Coffee is roasted in house (not my favourite coffee in town but not a disaster either) and they bake in-house also. Decor is šŸ‘Œ and the noise level is somehow kept reasonable. Staff are friendly, chefs are flat out (poached from cafes around Melbs), wait times are ok. <br/><br/>Had the Okonomyaki pancake enhanced by the eggplant katsu and the whole lot was offset by the perfectly tart yuzu mayo; and hubbie had the truffled Croque madame which he loved and which worked perfectly with the sauerkraut which cut through the Gruyere and bĆ©chamel. <br/><br/>Overall, one of the better cafes in Melbourne at the moment. Up there with some of the oldies such as Top paddock and Crux and Co. good work peeps! Will be back.
John Nguyen
Atmosphere is vibrant, friendly staff and the house coffee was roasted to perfection. Food was amazing, the pork croquette was moist and very flavorful. Ordered the specialty batch coffee and staff insist to take it off the bill due to the long waiting time which made my day.
Ben
Super cool experience! The cafe is so well lit, food was so damn good and the coffee was an absolute killer. Could not recommend it enough. Thank you guys so much you killed it
Mrs Mark
I couldn't wait to try this potential rival of three bags full down which is down the road. I wasn't disappointed. The atmosphere was cool and relaxed and I thought the food was excellent. We had the okonomiyaki which was delicious with an excellent balance of flavours and textures as well as the black bean hummus. The coffee was a bit bitter though.

Went here for lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon after spotting it on a routine drive to another favourite cafe. The fit of Au79 is pretty specky, with polished concrete floors, matte black doors and windows, plenty of leafy greens and massive amounts of natural light. The menu is a breath of fresh air, presenting something new and exciting for all foodies! Coffee order got lost in the midst of it all but all was forgotten when our waitress apologised profusely and gave them to us complementary. When they arrived, the coffees were excellent! Would recommend the Lamb Croquettes and the Chai Latte was also pretty spesh also. I will definitely be back to give the breakfasts a whirl.
Kelly Belly
Veggie driven menu. Lovely open space - 80s pastel inspired decor (when did the 80's come back?). Ordered the okonomiyaki pancake with eggplant katsu. An unusual breakfast choice but fantastic they have these kinds of options. A weighty serve but great presentation and flavours were bang on. Lovely service. Go on a weekday when it's not so jammed.
Linnie Eats All The Food
Melbourne, home to the never ending cafe openings where good food is always promised. Au79 in Abbotsfords is a spacious venue which seats 200 diners with a very greenery atmosphere. There was definitely a buzz in the air and I could feel it in my bones. There were a few bite sized dishes that came around to sample.
Melbourne, Letā€™s Eat
Came here for breakfast and with all first time visits, I avoided reading the reviews to see how I genuinely felt during my visit. <br/>We came in really early on a Monday where it was quiet and we were seated anywhere we liked. <br/>We ordered the kimchi benedict and the okonomiyaki and it tasted really nice actually. Full of flavour and was presented very well. <br/>We did have a few different people come and check on us which can be an issue to others but we're fine with it. Maybe they can just assign one person to a section or the entire floor? Staff are really happy and nice though. <br/>Coffee and matcha was not the best I've had.m, not stopping me from trying the other brewing methods. <br/>Other than that we really enjoyed the visit and there are soooo many pastries and desserts available that looked so good but we thought, maybe not a smart idea for the morning. Will be back :)
Agnes Lei
Food is good presentation, taste is a bit strong!! The duck burger is better have A bit of plum sauce... but the eggplant pancake plum sauce is too strong !! The waffle is better to have winter option, the passion fruits and coconut should be happened in summer. Wanna to have hot chocolate waffle !! <br/>The service is awesome, friendly and helpful ... very attentive as well!!<br/>Moreover, the bakery .. is excellent love the fruit and nuts loaf !!
Shazzamataz
This place is newly opened and the fiod looked fabulous, unfortunately it tasted average and atmosphere wasn't anything special. Having said that, the consensus was to try this place again in a month or so before making final decision on making this place a regular lunch spot
Tess
The place looks amazing and the menu is exciting and clever, however the meals we were presented with were disappointing, the waffle balls were cold and dry, must have been cooked the previous day and instead of pandan ice cream i had labne. My friend ordered the cronuts which were also dry. The mix of flavours were not the best on the cronuts, a very strange flavour coming from somewhere, I could only compare it to a slight hint of rubber. I don't like being a negative nancy but it is a real shame when the place looks so incredible but when simple things like taste and freshness aren't achieved it is a real disappointment. Too much time spent on aesthetics and not enough on the simple importance of hot fresh waffles!
Jesse
Beautiful place, clever name, you kind of feel a sense of humour with everything. The menu really interesting and in Melbourne where there is such a saturation of similar places it's hard to stand out and they do. The service was fantastic, friendly but not fussy, even on a busy Saturday and we took ages to decide what to order. The waitress even went so far as to stand on a chair to take a photo of our group! The food was delicious and the coffee even better, will be back!
Good Food, Good Mood
One of the nicest cafes in Melbourne - awesome fit out because there's always something to look at from the moment you walk in the door. Coffee was good.<br/><br/>Ordered the Smoked Bonito Croquettes and Truffle Croque Madame. Croquettes were well cooked and presented, wish there was more avo though. The croque madame was nice but the side serving of pickled cabbage and fennel was really sour (which I didn't like). Probably wouldn't order the croque Madame on my second visit but looking forward to trying the other dishes. <br/><br/>Upon reading the other reviews my service wasn't as bad but one of the girls did ask if I wanted a takeaway coffee AS I was sipping my current coffee and brought out the bill without me asking for it which felt pushy (it wasn't busy and they didn't need to clear me out so quickly).
Pramface
The space is spectacular and coffee is great. However unfortunately service is a real let down. Being locals we've been here for take away every week since it has opened, however every time we've ordered food there's been an issue of missing items. Upon raising it with staff there's been no intention of making amends. After giving this place many opportunities to redeem it self, this morning we were sent home with the big breakfast and out of things they have forgotten to include eggs!
Bunnyeven
.Food are ok, environment is fine and make people feel free and comfortable. don't like the service in the cafe, the Asian waitress seems not friendly to us :(
Baysidefoodie
Very nice design and layout, very prompt service, food was ok, need improving but nice presentation of everything, good place to catch here with friends.
Aussie Meets World
Gold. The oldest precious metal and commonly associated with top, premium quality wares. Melbourneā€™s newest cafe applies this premise to coffee and food under the banner of ā€œgood as goldā€. Meet Au79. Over a year in the making, this former Abbotsford mechanics workshop has been completely transformed and is now home to not just a cafe but also a roastery, bakery and patisserie.

After having attended their launch event I made the time to visit them during their regular trading days. (Unfortunately I did not bring my good camera and had to settle with my phone.) Ā . TheĀ Bircher MuesliĀ is presented in a rounded glass with a thin black sesame crisp on top, which is different than the white crisp shown in their instagram posts. I enjoyed the crisp, it was delicate and sweet with a distinct black sesame flavour. The muesli itself was pretty standard, the Granny Smith apple juice and the fruits, and yoghurt gave it an overall tart flavour.

Came here on a Saturday morning. When walking in the interior is very impressive and it's huge!<br/><br/>My granola with acai sorbet was pretty good. The granola was nice and crunchy but maybe slightly on the chewier side as my jaw was pretty sore by the end of it. The acai sorbet is a cool concept but I found it not to taste like acai and too sweet for my liking. My partner was impressed with his big breakfast dish as the flavours were great and the size was just perfect.<br/><br/>I also had the matcha latte which was pretty good but have had better.<br/><br/>In terms of the service, it was a bit hit and miss. We were told we had to wait for a table even though there were plenty of free seats at the end of the venue however this may be because of a busy breakfast service so maybe kitchen couldn't cope with the demand? When we sat down we didn't have any water glasses but we had a water bottle. There were also different waitresses coming over to take an order. However overall service was friendly.<br/><br/>Overall it was quite good. It's made me want to try the rest of their cafes in the future that's for sure!

Came here with a few friends and we sat in the back room. On the left are booths amongst the greenery, the middle are two rows of tables divided by greenery again and to the far right are large communal tables. They're all lit up by the large windows set into the roof and to the right which give a pleasant airy relaxing atmosphere to the cafe. <br/><br/>I decided on the 24 hour braised lamb croquette served with some pickled veggie slices, veggie puree and house jus. The croquette was amazingly crispy and when the jus was poured on top, the flavour combination was delightful. The tasty lamb was soft and already shreded, eaten with the crispy coating and a combination of the puree and preserve, it was delicious. <br/><br/>For dessert we shared the Belgium waffle balls. The waffles were crispy and savoury to balance out the passionfruit, pineapple and pandan combo. With a mixture of textures, contrasting savory with sweet, hot and cold and soft to crispy, it was a delight to savour.<br/><br/>In terms of service, it was a little patchy, we did come on a weekday if that makes any difference. The cafe wasn't full, but the waiters just weren't paying enough attention, so we sat waiting a few times for service. <br/><br/>Overall I enjoyed my meal, I recommend trying the seating at the front of the cafe if you want more attentive service, this was where most of the people were seated. I am interested to try more of the menu, so I will come back again.

Nice fit out, ordered a couple of coffees in house, not bad.Disappointed with FOH waiting staff, attention to detail bringing the water and glasses to our table, she had her fingers in both glasses upon placing on our table. Staff need to be better trained.

Aesthetically this place can't be faulted, however, I couldn't get over the heavy food smell as soon as I entered. I would have expected a brand new place to have better cooking exhaust than this. There was a heavy odour of food which was off putting. It even got into my clothes!

AU79 is a new place to brunch in Abbotsford and it is absolutely stunning. As you walk in, greenery is of abundance so plant lovers brace yourself. Itā€™s a huge space seating 200 guests. As well as a cafĆ© they are in-house coffee roasters, a bakery, and a patisserie. The crew that own Sir Charles, Addict food and coffee, liar liar and prospect espresso have done it again and brought you a new hip place to add to your brunch list.

Another day, another cafe opening. This time round, is the ultra spacious Au79 located in Abbotsford, lined with gold and luscious greenery throughout the cafe. Oh, and when I say spacious, I do mean SPACIOUS. Today, I caught up with my dearest Maggie (go check out her blog:Ā ) for brunch. Within 10-15 minutes waiting, we were ushered by a waitress to the ā€˜backā€™ section (I will explain the story behind the inverted comas later) of the cafe where we sat amongst the most gorgeous greenery and near the second coffee making section.

Sunday morning - We saw many people heading in before us and thought we would be in for a wait but it's such a large space so we were seated quickly. Very impressive interior! I really like it. It's like being in a greenhouse. There are so much interesting plants around. Now I want staghorn ferns too but that's another story. <br/><br/>Food arrived very quickly for the number of people around so that was good. The waffle balls were very nice. We also had the big breakfast which I felt could have been a bit warmer as cold mushrooms just wasn't so nice. <br/> <br/>There were nice looking cakes and pastries that we didn't get to try today but we will come back again. A good experience all round.

A random day off school can only mean one thing, midweek brunch date with my baby girls. When cafes aren't as busy & we can guarantee a table, without the wait.<br/><br/>I normally come down to this section of Richmond for awesome Vietnamese, now it's also satisfying my love of brunching.<br/><br/>As we stepped into the 10 days young Au79, it offers an aesthetically pleasing decor. We were seated promptly and attended to quite quickly, by such friendly staff.<br/>It was great to have a matcha latte that had the aroma & flavour of matcha, as opposed to just a hint. My daughter's Mork hot chocolate was equally delicious.<br/>My okonomiyaki, had such a beautiful balance of flavours, I was saddened by the fact I had to hand over half of my dish to my daughter. On the upside, I got to savour half of her dish of smoked bonito croquettes, let's say I was a happy camper after all. My sweet tooth youngest, ordered the very pretty Belgium waffle balls that she was very reluctant to share with us. I think her actions speaks for itself, regarding how delicious it must have been.<br/><br/>We'll definitely be back.

I came to this cafe on Saturday morning, my friends and I got a table right away (9am) One of the managers (Sarah) introduced herself and was just so happy and hospitable, I really felt super comfortable and welcome. I had their version of the smashed avocado and was absolutely delighted. Others on my table had a bowl of greens, croque Madame and a mouth watering choc mint croissant. A round of coffees, batch brew, skinny lattes and soy lattes and nobody was disappointed, nothing but smiles all round. We all simply loved our breakfast at this Cafe! Absolutely top notch!! I highly recommend and will definitely be a returning customer.

This place is a gem! Come for the great coffee (how great is the price!), Vibey atmosphere, you're feeling like sitting in an indoor garden, top notch food for affordable prices (the Okonomiyaki and Lamb are out of this world). The staff was constantly checking on us and looking after everything, special requests were treated with a lot of compassion. Nothing to complain!

I've been waiting for this place to open for ages, they have spent so much money transforming an old mechanics workshop into an amazing cafe.<br/>I have been there twice and both times the coffee has been luke warm (and I am sick of hearing that it has to be this temperature to be enjoyed). If I want luke warm coffee I will go to Three Bags, I want to sit and enjoy my coffee not have to drink it in 3 gulps.<br/><br/>The eggs on your choice of toast was perfectly cooked, wonderful. The side orders of hash browns and bacon were well cooked and generous.<br/><br/>The only issue I had was that we had trouble getting waiters attention (and they weren't busy) we had to do a lot of arm waving as waiters chatted and tidied but didn't look up.<br/>Please train your staff (and there are lots of them) to continually Ā scour the room and Ā all the locals will be happy.

Came in today and had an awesome experience. Staff addressed us at the door and sat us, took coffee orders quickly. Coffee yum my partner ordered the waffle balls and myself the croque. Croque was yum, truffled mushy a classic with a bit of a twist. My partner loved the waffle balls also. Best about the experience?? The super attentive staff. We got asked how everything was by at least two different staff members and also asked if we were after more coffees etc. Keep up the good work guys, I'll definitely be back!

Au79 spares no expense in this vast space and presents a venue so aesthetically pleasing you'll want to hang out here all the time. With a bright conservatory feel, the greenery and ample light brings the outdoors inside. Floor to ceiling windows and a partial open kitchen remind you you're in a cafe that boasts it's own bakery, roaster and retail space.<br/><br/>With seating for 200, not only will this place bustle, it'll be the area's best new option for private functions. If opening night was anything to go by; bite sized ocean trout with freekeh, spiced prawns and gold brushed duck boa were just some of the floating items that will wow your guests. A cheese selection to rival all and bite sized desserts to keep it easy showcased a menu that won't disappoint.<br/><br/>Full (and probably funnier) review on the blog now, link in bio :)

Fantastic spacious venue with an impressive warehouse design. Menu is really unique as well. I ordered the Belgian waffle balls with banana custard, pineapple and pandan ice cream. The waffle balls were super light and the dish wasn't overpoweringly sweet. I loved the ice cream too. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!

Great space & much needed in the area, particularly a bakery! I had the truffled croque monsieur with bacon & the mushrooms inside it were superb in flavor. Unfortunately the bread was a bit soggy underneath, so I recommend that they toast these a little more. The lamb croquette was fantastic, it just had a LOT of carrot on the dish, making it a bit much - sweet potato or more greens would have complimented the lamb better. The inhouse roasted coffee is defs not the best in the area. UPDATE - The Spanish Baked Eggs are the beat baked eggs I've ever had. Moist & full of flavour. Whilst the dipping sweet potato garlic bread is a nice compliment, I actually think plain toast (as its firmer) would be more helpful for scooping up the juicy, hearty goodness. I'll come here for the space & beautiful, ambiance, the bread & the brunch, but I'll continue my coffee loyalty with Three Bags Full.
