Review The Farm Cafe - Abbotsford

Char Weeks
What a great place to feel warm while still experiencing the season! I have been to The Farm Cafe a few times lately for coffee and snacks. A couple of days ago, I shared the sumptuously light scones with jam and cream with a new friend. Today I went for the delicious orange and chia cake. The uber cool relaxed atmosphere, great service, country feel and dog welcome set The Farm Cafe apart from others in the vicinity.

Great place to get coffee and snack particularly on a nice walk or ride along the river. Most of the food is very good, I really like the kimchi scrambled eggs. The coffee is hit and miss, very inconsistent temperature (mainly cold). The baked goods can also be hit and miss - can be hard to find or taste the main flavour advertised! The service is friendly and helpful - and even with a few mishaps with items they were quick to fix the issues!

We love this place; great food, friendly staff, and a light-filled space tucked away next to the farm. Been back a few times, and will keep coming back!

Really really nice experience! It's such a wonderful vibe being here. The staff are friendly, and the food options are fresh, healthy, and tasty! 👌🏼🌠

Very much worth visiting as a destination brunch cafe for the atmosphere alone; dining basically alfresco surrounded by the animals and veggies really adds to the experience. We arrived early and were welcomed with friendly service. Coffee was perfectly good. Most of the menu steers towards "health-conscious" but it still packs plenty of flavour! A little freaked to find my breakfast salad garnish had dirty big flecks of soil through it at the end however. More washing next time please!

Absolutely lovely location. However, we were told we couldn't split the bill 50/50 and they weren't even remotely polite about it. I can understand not accommodating multiple people wanting to pay for their individual items, but a 2-person split doesn't seem worth a large sigh and "No. We don't do that and there's a line behind you."

It’s an easily accessible cafe on the Capital City Trail and it’s dog friendly, family friendly with yummy and wholesome food and drinks. Their scones are truly an experience you would not want to miss! Fluffy and warm… pile on the cream and jam to make it even more perfect. Mmmmm… yum… Then stroll along the Yarra or into the Collingwood Children’s Farm to see and pet some friendly farm animals. What a great spot to be! Their takeaway boxes are all recyclable or compostable which is a bonus although there might be some issues of leakage and spillage due to the wrong or lack of containers used to hold certain items. Otherwise happy.

We had a wonderful experience here. The cafe was warm and welcoming, and near idyllic in the morning sun and warmth. We had utterly charming service here right from the outset, especially from the young woman in the tan flying suit. What a star. The food and beverages absolutely fitted the bill here too. We started with gorgeous coffee, a long macchiato on ice that was a real beauty. And, the Tunisian eggs were a thing to love and behold. So full of flavour and gorgeous textures. Every element was terrific and the extras I chose - bacon and wilted greens - were faultless too. Top marks. What a wonderful little cafe. We’ll be back.

Waited an hour for our meal, ignored by staff... asked waitress if our order had gone through and she never came back. Asked another staff member and they said that it hadn't. No apologies. Food was nice when we got it but bad service.

Wedding - 5th March, 2016! Wow! We have just held out wedding at the farm cafe on the 5th of March and it was simply the most magical and amazing experience enhanced by the professionalism and friendliness of the farm cafe. Throughout planning Vanessa our contact was always available, friendly and very hospitable to our questions and requests. We had an event that has a ceremony under the huge beautiful oak tree, nibbles and drinks in the paddock and a fantastic reception in the barn. On the day Rox and I just enjoyed our day with no stress or issues and our request for decorations, food and drink were met with no fuss and perfectly to our instructions! Roxanne my wife and I highly recommend having your wedding at the Farm Cafe and the Collingwood Children's Farm....

Made me wait at the register, ordered a strong decaf, extra hot ,soy milk.Girl asked me to pay before I sat down, charged me $6.50.Drink came out weak decaf and luke warm.Tasted like a weak decaf milkshake, was pretty awful, waitress just wanted to go home.$6.50?

Our 'dairy free' meal, ordered for my son who is strictly dairy free came smothered in butter. By the time we noticed it was too late. Guy at the counter was apologetic but staff clearly do not understand the gravity of stuffing up this sort of order! Coffee was cold.. sent it back and took another 15 mins to get another. ďż˝ thumbs down from us!

Was seated and then ignored. Waited 25 minutes for service that never happened. Tried to flag staff down but to no avail. Didn't even get a jug of water. Watched other tables come in after us, get seated and then order almost immediately. Walked out. Appalling service. Boo.

Wow!!! We just had our wedding on Saturday and we had the most amazing day. Maya is an absolute legend and so were the rest of the crew. They went above and beyond for us, even though it was a horrible 40 degrees! We had so many laughs with the staff and it felt like we had extra friends with us on the day. They all helped us pull off the relaxed day we were after. Wish we could do it all again!

We used to come here religiously until you caved under "rising avocado prices" & changed your 'Goats Toast' from smashed avocado to smashed eggplant. FYI - I bought an avocado at Coles yesterday for $1.90. Please change it back to avocado as it's the only reason I've stopped coming - other than that the cafe, coffee and staff are great and I would have given you a 5*!

Awesome place, very nice view, nice staff & nice super salad

Really lovely space and view of the farm. My toddler loved looking at the chickens while eating lunch. Food was served relatively fast as we came when it wasn’t busy. Food is fresh and delicious. Brunch is done well here. Only minor thing/issue is because it’s an open space there are a lot of birds flying in and out. Sometimes they land on the water glasses/tables and chairs and it doesn’t seem all too hygienic. Overall an enjoyable experience.

The Farm Cafe is a lovely semi-outdoor cafe that we were told served up an amazing brunch so we had to go. We went for the Farmer's Breakfast, which was simple but in a good way - anchored by a serving of straight up bacon, sausages, poached eggs and toast with no fancy garnish. We also got a sausage roll which was a perfect pastry packed with hearty meat - it may be too meaty for some but certainly not for us - it went down a treat. To mix it up, scones with cream and jam was also ordered and devoured. Farm Cafe is also uniquely situated along the Yarra Trail, next to Collingwood Children's Farm and Abbottsford Convent, making for a great day out and putting even more runs on the board in our rating. It definitely lives up to the bill and is well worth a visit.

Such beautiful spot! Melbournian is so blessed to have this place. The setting is so natural and simply beautiful. The menus are perfect , the staff is friendly and very accommodating. We have to wait for our table as we came as big group but def worth the wait. The kale salad with soba noodles are delish! The big breakkie is perfect. The chai spot on. Very kids friendly too. Def place to go in any seasons , but the perfect time is spring and autumn of course

So well organised to have a waiting list and buzzer when your table is ready. We’re told 45 mins but much quicker than that. Such a peaceful haven 5 mins from town amongst trees, cows, goats and sheep!<br/><br/>Coffees came quickly as we waited for our table and great service on a very busy Sunday lunch. <br/><br/>The home made beef sausage roll with slaw (nice it didn’t have mayo!) was perfect to share. Really lovely. All of us were very satisfied all around prices very reasonable. Only wish it wasn’t that far from home as I’d visit more often.

I really wanted to love this place, the location is great. But the food is pretty average, as with the coffee. It's similar to the convent bakery's cafe, but I think the convent does a bit of a better job.
Charlotte O'Brien
The food was amazing and freshly made. The staff were friendly and helped create a welcoming atmosphere. A perfect place to get brunch or coffee and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Food: 3/5<br/>Atmosphere: 5/5<br/>Pet friendly: 5/5<br/>Service: 4/5<br/><br/>Despite arriving on a busy market day, there were plenty of seats available in the alfresco area. We ordered a bacon and egg sandwich and a farmer’s breakfast. The sandwich looked dry as there wasn’t any relish to go with it and hubby said it was ordinary. My farmer’s breakfast looked hearty and yummy. Gluten free bread was slightly dense but I love the sunflower seeds that came with it. Overall the breakfast was tasty but nothing that makes you go wow. <br/><br/>Coffee was great though we like ours hotter. <br/><br/>Dog friendly for sure and great atmosphere.

Great spot to sit and enjoy lunch <br/>Perfect outdoor environment <br/>Lots of flys in summer however <br/>Would visit again <br/>Food was lovely <br/>Was busy in school holidays
Flying Forward
Quite an easy going, casual atmosphere, the menu is seasonal and produce-driven with classic farmhouse-style options.<br/><br/>• Farmer’s Breakfast – Everything seems to be a little on the dry side – potatoes are crisp, bacon and sausage give the salty element. You almost need to pour the baked beans over everything to balance it all up. It’s a hearty meal though.<br/><br/>• Sausage Roll – Love a bit of crisp pastry, the sausage roll inside is tasty, especially with a bit of tomato sauce.<br/><br/>Great to drop in after a visit to the Children’s Farm, but I think the menu execution could do with a bit of an update.
Tania
Great place for a little cafe, overlooking the farm animals.<br/>We did get attacked by wasps but thats one the downsides for having outdoor seating. We ordered the toastie which was cheesy and flavoursome and the house made sausage roll. Unfortunately they did forget our coffee orders even though this was the first thing we asked for.

Being a Wellingtonian in Melbourne is tough. My foodie bar has been set high and I'm loyal to home. So right now, I'm torn because I am trying not to be biased.<br/><br/>The Farm Cafe isn't on a main road and is quite out of the way so on any normal holiday, I would not have visited. We found it by chance when out wandering during a break in an event we're attending at the Abbotsford Convent. But, even then, it took me a couple of days to realise its existence.<br/><br/>As soon as you walk in, you feel the farm vibe. As the name suggests, it's next to a wee children's farm and the produce is sourced locally. The thing I love is their commitment to helping the homeless community through donations.<br/><br/>For someone like me, the menu is gorgeous. Lots of vegetarian and GF options, sourced locally and combined in a well thought out way. But don't worry omnivores, the options are still plentiful for you too.<br/><br/>I tried the Dahl and Mr RaeRae had a chicken sandwich. Both were tasty and satisfied our individual cravings. My Dahl was sweet and fragrant. Paired with poppadoms helped bring out some savoury notes and it was just a delightful meal.<br/><br/>My coffee reminded me of a Pinot Noir. Deep flavours that hit the back of my tongue but, unlike a red wine, the flavour disappeared quickly so didn't leave a nasty aftertaste.<br/><br/>So, why only four stars? Well, as you will see below, the service was a bit left wanting. Our waitress didn't look to be enjoying her time deapite me trying to engage with her when we sat down. Customers can feel that kind of vibe and for someone who goes to a lot of eateries, it is the small things that can taint an opinion of a place.<br/><br/>Overall, thank you Farm Cafe for your great food and support for thos who need some help.<br/><br/>Stars given:<br/>Service: No<br/>Menu and offerings: Yes<br/>Atmosphere/Environment: Yes<br/>Food: Yes<br/>Drinks: Yes

A really lovely cafe and conveniently located near the farm if you’re coming for a visit. Bit of a wait for a table and it must be because of its location not the actual food unfortunately. The food was sadly all a bit bland, and lacked any seasoning and colour. The charcuterie board was particularly disappointing. Portion sizes were small too. Service was super friendly though, and the coffee was good. Was just hoping the food was worth the wait and price tag.
Sourav Satpati
The location is really nice and the staff were friendly, but that is where it all ends. The food is pricey and disappointing. Actually it was bad, the poached eggs were overdone, the garden spring greens were a mushy dump of tasteless veggies. Plus the food took more than 30 minutes to arrive.<br/>Dont think I will return there ever again.

This is a lovely cafe, after wandering around the convent it was lovely to be able to relax at this cafe. It’s a great outdoor venue, and the food was lovely!
Sue Wong
Great relaxed, dog friendly location with good coffee. Unfortunately, the overpriced food we ordered was very disappointing. I ordered the charcuterie board which should be renamed to snack plate because let’s be honest, bit of a stretch and my partner ordered the pulled pork which tasted more like chicken than pork. Had a second lunch at the Convent Bakery to be completely satisfied. Pickles were good though!
YummyMummy
Yummy brekky in interesting surrounds! The service is rustic, the seating somewhat haphazard - if you eat on a farm you have to expect some spare animals and their poo... it’s a shame the eating area isn’t a bit bigger as one tends to come here with the kids and the odd high chair needs a bit more space.<br/>I loved my poached eggs with a sesame coated avocado and some tasty sides (pickles) and the kids each polished off a hearty big breakfast... my friends’ younger kids had kids’ meals which were small and basic.<br/>Great novel place for a catch up with young kids!
LittleM
This casual and relaxed cafe is located in the Abbostford children's farm. Stopping for a pit stop during our weekend bike ride, the place was crowded when we arrived around 11.30am. We weren't hungry, so we only ordered 2 iced coffees which were great. I would come back to try the food another time. It's a really lovely place for brunch to catch up with friends or for families to bring the kids for a nice weekend out.

Polite and kind staff. Deliciously hot and generous, tasty farm fresh food with elegance and a difference. Will definitely be back. Photo is of my smoked trout Croquettes with fried egg and toast. Yum!
Mrs Mark
Bland bland bland. Not even the friendly service could save this meal. We had the lentil dahl and the farmer’s breakfast. Both dishes were very average and lacked flavour. As a last resort we even added salt (which we never ever do) but that didn’t help either.

Wanted to just have homemade food so we thought to go to the farm cafe and visit the collingswood farm as well.<br/><br/>Considering it is a farm I would have thought the food would have been a lot nicer but we thought it was pretty average. The coffees and chais were however good.<br/><br/>Giving it a 4 because of atmosphere and friendly staff (despite orders going to wrong tables) because credit to them for being very smiley and cheery working amongst many children and families every day :)
BeardedBruncher
Great place to bring the kids with a view of the animals from the cafe. For what it is, it’s a cute little place with friendly and attentive staff and the food, though basic, isn’t bad. <br/>It’s outside so bring weather appropriate clothing!<br/>Harry - you’re a good man!👍🏻😉

Nice cafe in the farm. It was great to enjoy a coffee will our toddler follow chickens. We love this place. Variety of farm animals and activities.

really nice atmosphere, great coffee and love how they use biodegradable takeaway cups with no lids!! would recommend coming here. thanks guys!
Hungry For Chips
Cycled to The Farm Cafe on a sunny day. A great setting for a cafe with a relaxed vibe. <br/>Food - mixed reviews. I had the super salad which consisted of rather interesting textures and flavours but quite bland (which I guess is on purpose for the healthy living). Smashed avocado is good but doesn’t stand out in the crowd. <br/>But I give this a high rating for the ambience.
Sophie
Been here a couple of times, the food is very good and healthy, you don’t need to visit the farm to be able to dine here either which is good to know. However, the farm is nice especially if you have kids.

Aw the Farm Cafe is so nice! I wanted a healthy lunch with my friends so I met with them after I walked from Burnley station for some exercise (yes that was a bit crazy 😂). <br/><br/>I was really impressed with how pretty the yoghurt dish was, and was all served with such fresh fruit and even passion fruit was included! It was also very cheap!! <br/><br/>Perfect place to go with some friends or if you are looking for a venue that is also dog friendly.
Nikki
Sadly I really can’t say I rate the food. The place is nice to take the kids but being a farm kid was expecting a lot from fresh food and my harvest breakfast didn’t cut the mustard! Maybe I just ordered the wrong item for what other people rave on about . Really wanted to recommend for food but unfortunately cannot, for $25.50 I know I could get much better harvest breakfast elsewhere.

By far my fav place, love everything about it. Tucked away near the abbotsford farm close to the Yarra, this place is so beautiful! The food is simple but so delicious- had the green breakfast and avo on toast. They were both great. It’s dog friendly too! Great place
Little Bit Of Everything
Such a beautiful spot to sit and eat. Incredible experience to be able to sit out in the open with plants and animals and not being stuck in between walls. We where there for Saturday brunch. Walked around the farm after wee ate, such relaxing and soothing experience. Friendly staff and quick service. Might have a to wait for a table if its a peak hour on a sunny day.

I've been here on multiple occasions- I always order the same and am presented with a beautiful meal. Today my smashed avo was pitiful- a smothering of maybe 1/2 an avocado on untoasted gf bread, and barely a handful of wilted greens. Had to steal cutlery from another table as we weren't given any. Most of the staff seem to have no idea as they give a disinterested glance to check if anyone needs anything- clearly not paying attention as I'm staring at them so I can inform them that multiple tables are missing cutlery. Our waitress was lovely however.. but yeah overall really shitty experience.
Christina Mathiasz
Food is quite good and coffee is acceptable. The one main downside to this place is the wait time. I have been 3 three times and each time have waited over 30 minutes for food. Unfortunately not the best during lunch work breaks but would definitely eat here on a nice long day out to the children's farm.
Stephanie
Delightful setting. Beautiful farm land feels like your in a rural community. A good place to walk around and take in the scenery and various activities going on at the convent. Lots of cyclists seem to stop here as you can tell from the raft of bikes parked outside. Really tasty food and lots of vegetarian options. I had the field breakfast. Was surprised when I was told they don’t do scrambled eggs however. We asked if we could substitute items of our meal which the waitress said “of course” however she didn’t mention we would be charged for this. Also, my coffee seemed to have been forgotten as it came out after I asked twice and almost an hour had passed. The food and vistas made up for that though.
Medium Rare Steak
We got a table without a booking on a busy sunny Sunday. This place is a hidden gem, located behind the Yarra bend, with a beautiful surrounding view. It gives you a natural fresh-air feeling to sit down and be enjoying your coffee.<br/>Dishes were nicely presented. Some are a little pricey compared to other brekkie places, but it does have some good items. Has no soups though.<br/>The biggest downside to this cafe is the parking. $3 for every 30mins, which is a little outrageous. Yes, even on the Sunday, because of the children's farm. You can try to find parking on the residential streets and walk in. Otherwise I would totally give this place a higher rating. I would come back mostly because of the ambience; country side cafe hidden in metro!

Great place to visit with children and family. Good friendly service and very good food. Eggs were very orange and so fresh! Coffee was good. <br/>Nice atmosphere
Katie Grist
On the weekends, the service is so slow and to be honest the food isn't really worth the wait. The menu has been the same for about 7 years.
Speccy
Nice open place to sit outside & enjoy the fresh air. Less breezy in the partly covered area with heaters. Was good, that on a busy saturday they gave us buzzers, so we could go for a walk to see the horses & come back when our table was ready. The food was ok. The mushroom ragu on polenta would have been nice with a side of bacon or some feta (needed some extra flavor & the polenta was slightly bland). The housemade beans are delicious (even as a side). The beef & burgundy pot pie of the day was delicious. If porridge is your thing, this one was incredible. Downside, the coffee was slightly cool. Probably better service when you don't visit on a crazy Saturday...
Charis
Had a white winter soup there and love it so much! The soup is made out of parsnips, potato, leek and some other ingredient. Come by its side is the sourdough.
Theknifeandforktalk
Such a great eating experience in the beautiful collingwood children's farm! Menu was inspiring and good was delicious. Definitely a great cute spot when visiting the area!
Melbcafegirl
What a beautiful place to eat a meal! Fresh air, beautiful surroundings, fresh flowers and the sound of chirpy animals! If you love animals then I'm sure you'll love having a cheeky hello from the free range cats, peacocks and such! Food was beautiful, a little bit of a wait and coffee was a little on the cold side. Would definitely visit again!
Ceilrain
Returning customers, shocked to find that the food has lost its flavor. Some of the ingredients were missing from the plates. Food tastes like it was two days old. We were rushed. And overcharged. I could have got more my dollar in a number of better places. Feeling let down.
Vicky Ho
I love this cafe. It's ideal for cute dates with your doggy and other loved ones. The cafe is very family friendly. It has a beautiful rustic vibe, perfect for relaxing and catching up with friends over some coffee. The food was good and there's nothing I can fault here. I recommend the scones! The cafe is located next to a walking trail which is perfect if you over-ate like I did :).
Nick Komo
Great location for a cafe. Near dight falls along the river. Next to the children's animal farm.<br/>Fresh air (and animal poo), nice view while drinking coffee 😉<br/>Great for families.... only negative has to be price
Gabriela
The food was good. Simple ingredients but they all were very fresh. What it was dissapointing was the service, It was a very busy Saturday as the farmers market was open and servers were very busy, we had to wait a bit for someone to talk to us about seating and then it was hard to try to get a server to take our order. They need to get more staff in days like this. It was our first time there and I don't think we will come back
Sean Romero
Lovely surroundings... but the food and service are so-so. In a group of 5, our meals came out at different times (a variance of at least 10 minutes), which is not nice when you're trying to eat together. The scones were cold. The coffee was sub-par, and I know this because I'm usually thinking about my 2nd coffee midway through my first. I didn't even want to finish the first one. The food was fine, cooked much the way I would at home - but nothing special. Trying to get the attention of staff was tiresome. At the end, it felt like my request for a bill was a burden. It's a shame because with such beautiful scenery, this place could be a whole lot more. I'll pass by as I'm local, but probably won't drop in again.
Liv
Great outdoor cafe for a coffee or lunch. This place has the best Almond milk chai lattes I've ever had (I've tried many!) <br/>Love how this cafe looks out into the Collingwood Children's Farm. Good vibes at this place and it will always be a favourite <br/>
CL
We visited on a sunny Sunday with our dog. Food and coffee is very good. And if you have a dog, this is a great place to be as it's dog friendly, and ur dog will be overloaded with belly rubs😂
Haley
What a beautiful little treasure! This place has such a nice and relaxed vibe. Delicious food, amazing value for money and friendly staff. I had the field breakfast and throughly enjoyed it. Huge portions and fresh local produce. Coffee was also nice. I will be back again and again!
Mistletoe
Service is immaculate at this place. Super friendly and genuine staff that always have a huge smile on their face. You just know that they want to make your experience in the cafe as comfortable and as happy as possible. It's been a while since we've been served with such dedication and sincerity :) <br/><br/>Food wise... we ordered the farmer's breakfast as well as the sausage roll. The pastry for the sausage roll was on point. However, the filling lacked flavor. The hub's dish was all right, though he did mentioned that the beans were really odd. He didn't end up finishing that part of his meal. Though, he did demolish the beautifully poached eggs and the fresh sourdough bread. The food was ordinary. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. <br/><br/>We would come again, if only for the wonderful service and perhaps a cup of coffee.
Sarah
I was looking for a pet friendly place to bring the pups when I came across this cafe. It's great as it has open space, outdoor seating and they're generally advertised as pet friendly. The thing I loved best was that this cafe was so pet friendly. The waiters (most of them) were happy to greet our pups and were welcoming to have them around. <br/><br/>The food was good - I didn't have any particular complaints but nothing that shined either. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly. But otherwise the range of dishes were relatively unexciting - just a standard Melbourne brunch.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, one of youngest pups was barking a lot and apparently disturbing the people around us without us noticing since we were pretty preoccupied trying to keep him quiet. The thing that really did not impress me was how rude one of the waitresses was to us about our barking dog. I think it would have been more reasonable if she let us know early that the pup was disturbing other people and given us a solution such as moving us to a table further away in a more open space (it's all outdoors anyway). Rather, she came up to us and in a very irritated rude tone told us off, saying the dog would have to go outside if it kept barking. Fortunately we had already finished eating, so we got up to leave quite promptly because we were not going to accept such rude service; and she continued to be quite rude as the same young pup peed on the concrete - ignoring us when we apologised. So much for a "pet friendly cafe"! So rude blaming us because the puppy was not being fully trained yet. <br/><br/>If it wasn't for the one rude waitress who handled the situation quite poorly, I wouldn't have minded coming back here again with the dogs when they're a bit older and less yappy. But I don't think we'll be coming back. A bit of a let down when it is just one staff member who ruins your whole experience of a really lovely cafe.
EatMeMelbourne
I just love coming here with my little one any day of the week. A great range of options, even for my fussy eater, and lovely surroundings. Service is basic but always pleasant.
Dina Kerr
Lovely space, kid friendly and good coffee. I ordered the Haloumi baguette which had dried pesto, and rock hard Haloumi the bread was so stale. Not worth the money. Do not bother ordering baguettes here. Next time I will try the hot food menu.
Alex Owen
Beautiful space! Happy and attentive staff, yummy food, and very dog friendly! A nice relaxing environment to have a meal.... Ticks all boxes 😊 Willow, our cheeky spoodle, even made it onto their doggy Instagram page! She was very happy with the love she received from the staff.

Nested in the Collingwood Children Farm in Abbotsford, this small cafe provides a good range of breakfast items and drinks. The food is by no means fancy (likely be kept warm on the Bain-Marie) but is served quickly. The poached eggs with the various breakfast meals were well-cooked and runny in the middle. The beans were a bit bland but the mushrooms were nice. The sausage roll had a nice accompanying relish however finding insects in the lettuce with it was a little off putting (guess on the plus side - less pesticides used...) The drinks ordered were all nicely done - ice coffee, chai tea and baby chino with marshmallow for the little one. Overall, a really good experience!

The Farm CafĂŠ is in Abbotsford along the Yarra Bend Trail. So many times I have tried to find this place using public transport to the Convent and could not. Now I finally figured it was on the Yarra Bend trail itself. And it also goes past the Collingwood Childrens Farm. Here they use organic produce which is sourced locally hence everything is expensive. And seeing as they are an outdoor cafĂŠ with shelter, dogs are welcome. And I patted a few whilst there.

Pleasant brunch at reasonable prices. Super family friendly so avoid if you don't like kids! It's definitely a unique location and lovely when the weather is good. Had the farmers breakfast and some banana bread. Great that you can buy food and snacks for kids easily too.
Mrs Lavender
We had the goat toast , chicken baguette, a chai latte & a chocolate milkshake. While we were waiting I saw many people are having the goat toast so I ordered the same thing . Lol. Turns out pretty nice . Very healthy with lots of fresh vegetables . Big quantity of food and nice decor. Friendly staff , reasonable price . The only thing I would like to say is it's very popular during the weekend , busy buzzy , if you go during the week day I assume it would be nicer to enjoy a tea time . A good place for family meet up .

Absolutely amazing!!! Went here on a Sunday morning and got seated straight away, even though it was cold they had heaters cranking and it was super cosy. The coffee is amazing and the food even better, massive servings, super tasty and all reasonably priced! Staff are also really nice and super helpful! Will definitely be back!

My friend has been talking about wanting to go to the Children's Farm for almost a year now. We were planning to come since spring last year ... But then summer came and went and somehow it's winter! We decided we won't let the weather deter us again so we went despite the cold day.<br/><br/>My friend had news ... She's pregnant. But not in a good way ... She was still reeling from morning sickness. After looking forward to this place for so long, all she could stomach were some scones. I, on other hand, was not feeling nauseous and got myself a sausage roll, which hit the spot. <br/><br/>The husbands got the Farm breakfast ... The one that came with the lot. Both finished it with nothing left on their plates so I assume they liked it. <br/><br/>Service was also amiable and we didn't have to wait. I would come again when the weather is nicer. <br/><br/>

Wanted to go to the Meat the Makers Market today at Abbotsford Convent, but decided to have a late lunch at the Farm Cafe instead. Such a nice spot, it was warm enough to sit outside and feel a little bit in nature. Had one of the specials which was like a beef stew and a salad. Both were nice. Friend of ours had a big breakfast which looked lush. They also had a soup special, but this was $16,50 as well which I find very (!) steep for a soup. Service was fine.

Decided to check this place out after a short stroll along the Yarra trail. Proportions are big, the food itself is rather standard. Nothing stands out. I ordered goats toast and my friend the farmers breaky. The goats toast was average. Not much effort was placed into the presentation of the food. That said the theme of it is a farmers breaky, so it is about big proportions and basic foods. However, it felt like something I could've plated up at home - two slices of toast topped off with avo, goats cheese, beetroot hummus (grated Beetroot), loose leaf lettuce and a poached egg. My friend had the farmers breaky which is a big breaky, you can't go wrong with that as everything is already ready then cooked and thrown onto a plate. Overall, the food is average. The atmosphere is rather nice but only on sunny days.

Always understaffed on the weekends with crazy wait times. On any day of the week this is followed by super slow service. Today the cold extremely milky hot 'chocolate' was the end of the road. Sadly saying farewell to the perfectly positioned quaint cafe.
Hello. Imnikki
Located on site at Collingwood's Children Farm, The Farm Cafe is an oasis for tired joggers or weary parents to rest their feet and replenish their stomach. The calm and serene surrounding adds to the dining experience at the cafe, and you get the pleasure of dining with chickens, peacock, cats and the ever-present birds. I had no problems with the service even during peak lunch hours during school holidays, and staffs have definitely been trained to deal with little ones who can't make up their mind on what to order (speaking from experience). The food offering are standard cafe fares but leaning towards more healthy rather than over-the-top indulgent dishes. Simple dishes such as bacon and egg toast, sausage roll, farmer's breakfasts I.e. big breakfast are executed well with flavours being on point. Unfortunately didn't really enjoy the coffee; for a place that are frequented by parents who have been running after their kids who are running after the animals, coffee needs to be much more stronger to give parents a much needed energy boost.

A great cafe in an amazing setting. I had the green breakfast and it was amazing! The house pickle alone was enough to warrent a trip to abbotsford! Coffee was delicious! They even supplied a blanket because it was chilly!

A day out at the children's farm or a walk down the Merri Creek Trail deserves a much needed rest and The Farm Cafe is the spot for it. It's an outdoor cafe that's has coverings protecting the patrons from the elements, a lovely and fresh menu (not the one that is shown here) and excellent to bring your dog to.<br/><br/>I had the pear, lime and ginger tea with a bowl of Autumn Granola. I normal don't like drinks with pear as I find that it is over powering, however this tea was balanced perfectly. It may be a little sweet for some people but the ginger does spice it up. The granola was the best granola I've ever eaten! It was completely gluten free, containing roasted nuts, seeds and coconut, a raspberry compote, yoghurt cream and apple chips. Served with milk on the side, this dish is extremely filing due to all of the nuts, though I took the other half home for breaky the next day. I know ordering granola can be a little 'boring' to order when there so many other amazing options to eat but do us all a favour and try it. You won't regret it!
Barley And Hops
Nice little cafe in a great location. Unfortunately table was dirty, seemed understaffed with poor service as the waitresses were all over the place and the food is pretty standard, certainly nothing special and it's also not licensed which is a shame as its a great location for a few drinks on a sunny day.

Fresh produce and a very healthy selection of food. Do not go if after a hung over brunch. Attend if you are on a healthy cleanse enlightenment path. Outside setting is kid friendly pram friendly and beautiful surrounded by the Collingwood farm. The trees/scenary are hertitage listed so great to take visitors.

This place was beautiful! Great setting and is dog friendly. The cafe is kind of tucked away and not where the children's farm is. <br/>The food was great and the staff were friendly. We had the turkey/cranberry roll- great but I opted for the toasted option not realising there was lettuce in it. Ended up all wilted and gross so picked it out. My bad! <br/>Sausage roll was huge and came with a lot of side salads. <br/>Eggs and bacon were eggs and bacon but my god, was there a lot of bacon! <br/>Great little place and would have given it 5 stars if not for the 4min wait just for drinks!
Big Eyes For A Big Tummy
Great atmosphere! We really only came here for a drink after a long walk along the capital trail - really enjoyed the mug of chai I ordered. Couldn't resist ordering the chicken and tarragon pie of the day special to share as our "snack"....a tad dry but I did enjoy the flavour of the meat and the fluffiness of the pastry. Will come back here for a full brunch meal. We had lovely company from a friendly beautiful peacock too!

This place is like an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of city and suburban life.<br/><br/>It really feels like you're in the middle of the country, as it's a lovely rustic weatherboard building, adjacent to the Collingwood Children's Farm and the Abbotsford Convent.  Lots of lush greenery to look at, and just a short stroll to the Yarra River, and a few minutes to Dight Falls.<br/><br/>The menu is simple, but wholesome, and the service is friendly.  Child friendly, dog friendly - pretty much everyone friendly.<br/><br/>Just a great place to relax, chat with friends, enjoy a salad or sand which, a nice cup of tea or coffee, and enjoy the serene surroundings.
Out And About
Set in the beautiful Collingwood children's farm you can't help but imagine the salads, eggs and veggies taste more fresh, more real and more delicious. Sadly no produce for the cafe is sourced from the farm however the Farm Cafe will not disappoint! <br/>We enjoyed the mushroom pie with the goat's relish and poached eggs. I asked for well poached eggs but the message mat not have made its way through to the chef-regardless the house made Babaganoush and beetroot relish on the goats relish made up for it!

Originally thought it's just gonna be a cafe with farm theme.. but it's a cafe in the actual farm! Quite pleasant to have a coffe and scones here, very relaxing and can also wonder around the farm a bit. We went on a beautiful day it was sunny and very comfortable sitting outside. The food actually didn't let it down. Fresh and tasty. We ordered the salmon special of the day. The side salad was very fresh and yum as well. The only small thing tho, which wasn't that pleasant will be the flies... (it's in a farm after all). But will definitely come back.

Visited today with our puppy - everyone was super friendly and even got a bucket of water for him. Mushroom pie was amazing! The pastry was so flaky, buttery and just delicious. Only minus would be that menu is slightly pricey - but would definitely return for the pie!

Don't come here If you're a single man or you'll look like a pedo. I took the missus along and was moved to tears by homesickness and the lovely atmosphere. The food is good but watching peoples reaction to the chooks is bloody priceless. A wonderful place.

Bored having brunch in the city area? This place is definitely where you need to go ! Unique concept and not too far from city .. Probably around 30 mins by bus.. Having brunch here gives you a different feeling.. If you have children, it's a nice place to go.. Nothing special about their foods though.. If they offer more choices in the menu it'll be perfect ! Overall, nice experience..

Went here on weekend just to have brunch and wondering around the place. It is such a cool place where you can enjoy your meal overlooking the farm surrounded by trees. I got scones and coffee and they were so good. It's recomended to spend few hours here.

I chose a vegetarian dish, the ‘Mushroom Pie – mushrooms, roasted chestnuts and white wine served with potato salad, greens and tomato relish ($14.50)’. This pie was incredible! Look at that golden crust! The pastry was gorgeous... The filling was gorgeous... I didn’t even need the relish as the pie tasted so good! However, the relish also tasted amazing so I had to eat that too.
PEKISH
Great location but nothing too special food wise. We ordered the farm breakfast, pulled lamb sandwich & two kids homemade sausage rolls with sauce. The sausage rolls were probably the best part of all the meals. The breakfast was very bland, looked good but I didn't get much flavor or seasoning from it. The pulled lamb sandwich was ok, some seasoning or extra flavor wouldn't have hurt. The homemade sausage rolls the kids loved! I tasted a bit & enjoyed it. Next time I might order a sausage roll & scones (the diners next to us ordered them & they looked delicious) a great setting, will go again only because the Collingwood Children's Farm is a great day out but will order something else next time. The cupcakes were good though, very light, fluffy & buttercream just the right amount.
Meeee Hungry!
Great little 'rural in the urban' setting. Very cosy, even on a cold day, with quick no fuss service. The others were boring and had eggs and bacon...but my brekky was yummy, the rhubarb was a win...and there was so much plate envy I was forced to share!!

T H E ☆ F A R M ☆ C A F E<br/>This is a wonderful cafe situated in a children's farm. Enjoy some organic food and is pet friendly. Majority of the seating is outside, so I won't recommend coming here when it rains or when its cold. Food and service is great. I recommend the home made baked beans. ✌ @foodiesguidetosydney
Smikg Needs Coffee
This seemed like the perfect place for both adults and children. Which is what I was after (and really every other family out there too) but more so, because we were heading out to celebrate baby girl’s and my birthday. There were meant to be farm animals for the kids at the Collingwood Children’s Farm, and the Farm Café and luscious green surrounds were there for the big kids. I mean really, how could it go wrong?
Jacob
Unique! A fantastic little spot. Food was sensational. Coffee was spot on. Service was attentive. A real family area, with kids running around the farm with the animals. Couple of things to note - busy, could be a wait on a weekend and expensive. You pay for quality here, don't expect a cheap eggs and bacon! Unfortunately we were sat really close to another table, so much so that we had to ask the people at that table if they could get up for a tic so we could leave! Apart from that, definitely recommended - whether you are with friends, family or your partner. Something for everyone.

Very lovely place to have your breakfast. The staff are always nice and helpful. The farmer's breakfast and scones with jam and cream were so both so good.

Great atmosphere here at The Farm Cafe, very welcoming and always accommodating. When our dog is with us the staff often provide her with a blanket to snuggle in. The goats toast with an added egg is our favourite as is the super food salad. Would highly recommend especially those with family or people who like fresh air.

This is such a lovely place to have brunch on a nice day- literally a little farm house, in the middle of the children's farm. This place is perfect if you have young kids, hence lots of children running amuck and feels a little chaotic on a busy, windy day. It is often very busy requiring a bit of a wait. Friendly staff though difficult to get their attention at times. <br/><br/>The food is fresh and tasty, though slightly overpriced, and the coffee is quite good. Would most definitely come again. <br/>

Nice place to relax with your young kids, good service. Have a country side feel about it, away from the city. Food, coffee and milkshakes ok

Watch out for the wasps. Had a lovely breakfast on the weekend. Service was fast, food was fresh and tasty. Only problem was the wasps. Half way through the meal two wasps would not leave us alone. We had to keep leaving our table while they hovered over our food. We asked to move tables, however there was nothing free. We quickly finished our meals and left. On leaving we were told they are "gentle wasps" either way we didn't want to hang around.

Great location, great service and good food. Had brunch here last weekend and enjoyed the sunny weather sitting in a partially enclosed space. The breakfast is standard but good flavours. Coffee is nice.

Came here for lunch. Both of us had a sausage roll & milkshake. Drinks arrived promptly but food took a little while. Left very full. Beautiful part of Melbourne to visit.

Hidden gem at Abbotsford, side to side with Collingwood Children's Farm. Average latte, was having brunch with Swish Brown Mushrooms and love love the polenta! Exquisite ambience like in a countryside
Melbrunchin
Friendly staff although food was a major let down, food is way overpriced for what you receive.. I added bacon which was +$4 dollars and when my plate came there was a measley 2 pieces of the end bit bacon? Really? Is this some sort of joke??? Not to mention my meal already cost 17.5 without bacon.. Also not even a full slice of bread.. but one cut in half.. A single egg. So very underwhelming.

Quick Thoughts: While I didn’t manage to sample much more than their classic french toast and a fruity slushie they were serving up at the time, their offerings was enough to convince me that I need to go back. Perfect for those sunny days...

Sipping lattes surrounded by chickens and menacing goats might not sound like a hygienic way to spend the afternoon, but we promise the Farm CafĂŠ offers an experience beyond the enticing aromas of animal droppings. Alfresco-Provincial-Living is the only way to justly depict the charming set up of the Farm CafĂŠ. Your dream garden wedding would look like this.

Today we’re taking you to one of our favourite kid-friendly cafes in Melbourne, The Farm Cafe, located in the beautiful surrounds of Collingwood Children’s Farm, which in itself has a beautiful history of wanting to help children learn to care for animals and nature while having fun outdoors. With the weather now sunnier, we’re drawn to The Farm Cafe for its outdoor dining and a chance for kids to connect with nature...

...plenty of people rave about this rustic farmyard cafe and we wish we could too but, sadly, it was a letdown...

WARNING! If you're not a nature person or if you think your day would be ruined by squealing children and farm animals flying around your head or roaming freely by your feet than this isn't the place for you. But if you appreciate, or want to try, a rural outdoor dining experience 5km's from the CBD, than you've got to visit this cafe. My breakfast: I decided to go with a sweeter option for the first time in ages. "Autumn Pear", a poached pear with nut granola, vanilla yoghurt mousse, sticky pear butterscotch and brioche. Pears during winter always feels like a comfort, and this was definitely a delicious and comforting meal.  Mum and I decided to walk down to The Farm Cafe for our weekly breakfast out. It's a deceiving distance - by car it would only take us two minutes but it's a pretty substantial walk. We definitely walked up an appetite. We wanted to go somewhere so we could bring Jack the puppy and sit outside. Little did we know that The Farm Cafe is only outside seating and is

For well over a year now B and I have been planning to head down to the Collingwood Children’s Farm Cafe  to check out the food and play with the animals. For some reason it just kept not happening but finally the planets aligned and on a sunny Sunday we wandered down for some brunch and to see the new baby goats. The Farm is located down along the Yarra River and next to the Abbotsford Convent so despite being in the centre of a pretty built up part of Melbourne it feels like a slice of the countryside. Given the weather it was rather busy when we arrived at the cafe, however luckily for us they had a spare table for 2 so we got to skip ahead of all the larger groups waiting for tables. The cafe does all day breakfast and lunch and whilst the menu isn’t long it’s still got plenty of vegetarian friendly options. One of my favourite parts is that they list all their suppliers upfront so you know they are using only quality, locally sourced food and drinks. As usual B started with an Eng
Mon's Adventure
One path leads to the farm whilst a shared bicycle and pedestrian track winds past the entrance to The Farm Cafe. It’s lovely to see a family destination provide more than just canteen food. The cafe looked lovely and cute even from the outside. There was a wait as expected but they provide you with a buzzer to let you know when your table is ready. A table for two was about a 15-20 minute wait, which was reasonable.

Initially starting as a coffee and pancake stall in 2005, it has transformed into an idyllic cafe, serving delicious, wholesome and sustainable food of a high quality.
Brunch Addict
I think what I was so impressed was how much such a small kitchen can deliver – excellent produce, great coffee and friendly staff who try to help you find a seat.
Expensive Delicious Habit.
On first impressions, I was extremely impressed at how stylish the cafe was! Of course, I had already done some website snooping and had ascertained that it was a bit fancier than hot meat pies and instant coffee (thankfully).

My breakfast was absolutely amazing~! The beetroot relish had such a lovely sweetness while complementing the goats cheese and seeded sourdough. The poached egg added a great texture and greens brought the whole dish together. I highly recommend ordering!

Would I go back to Farm Cafe again? Yes. While i'll never get a $5 dish again there, even the simple sandwiches they had in the cabinet looked delicious and made me want to come back for more.
Gastrology
The yoghurt has a full cream taste and mouth feel but contains a mere 8% fat and has no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives (they even exclude standard yoghurt nasties like gelatine!). Using a well-formed, gentle yoghurt process means the thick & creamy texture is accentuated.
Ichigo Shortcake
I loved the feel of the cafe. For one there’s a cow that stared at all the passerby right across it and it was just full of parents with young children or couples with their dogs enjoying a good day out.
Vee - MunchinginMelbourne
The Farm Cafe seemed a logical choice of venue, given that there is no 'indoor' area - it is all open, rustic, 'properly' farm-like. You have been warned - pick your footwear with practicality in mind! (I initially had on a pair of heels, this being a '21

...highlight was the ‘Tom’s Roll’ which has dude food written all over it. I opted for the extra fried egg in addition to the standard bacon, mayo, HP sauce and a side of potato crisps. Don’t be fooled in thinking they’re hot potato chips by the way…..like I did, though, it didn’t stop me from filling the roll with them LOL!

Hungry wasps... Hearing that the weather was supposed to be nice this past weekend, my sister and I decided to find a nice outdoor spot to have brunch. We decided on trying the Farm Cafe. At around 10.30/11 on a Saturday morning we had no trouble getting a table straight away. We both ordered the bacon and eggs, with sides of avocado and spinach, coffee and tea. Had no complaints about the food, it was lovely and the portions were decent. However, we were swarmed by wasps as we tried to eat.. at first it started with one.. and just when I thought it had left, several more appeared.. and then more.. The couple at the table next to us unfortunately were experiencing this too.. I had trouble eating my breakfast because of this. I think i spent half my time dodging wasps and not being able to eat, and especially didn't want to continue eating my food after the wasps had swarmed my plate. After we said something to the waitress, without apology, were told we could simply move to another table. I'm not saying she was rude, she wasn't, and I understand it is a farm, but it was incredibly uncomfortable to try and eat with wasps in my face and on my food. I'm not sure if this is a common ongoing problem in the cafe but it might be something to look at. That aside, without the wasps, It was a lovely place to visit, and the food was very good. Would go back.

Best Muesli ever!. A friend and I had lunch there today and shared the muesli and the organic beef sausage roll. While the sausage roll was very nice I would have to say the muesli was the best I've ever had. Both of us agreed the flavour was just amazing and we're now going to try and replicate it at home. Thoroughly recommend for a relaxing brunch and very friendly service. Can't wait to go back!
Willem_lieftink
Cold food. Excellent setting and I'm sure that certain menu items are great. I ordered the bacon and egg roll, pretty easy meal to get right, but it came out cold. Not good enough for 18 bucks. My girlfriend ordered French toast but we had to send it back as it was well undercooked- eggy mush in the middle. When it came back it was great. I prefer my coffee hot and it wasn't but that's a personal thing I suppose. Lots of flies about. So... I'm sure the the ingredients are quality and you get what you pay for in that regard... Who knows. But I've had better for half the price. So I would recommend trying a salad based option.

Luff this joint. I love this joint. The offerings are excellent - good solid food with a twist. Coffee was top notch. The location is first rate. Well bloody done on creating a one of a kind cafe.
ChefDaParty
We love this place and have been semi-regulars for many years. The food is delicious and the staff always lovely. The only downside is the wait times since the expansion. It took over 40 mins for our breakfasts to arrive this morning, one plate of eggs and bacon arrived cold (the other one completely fine!) and a late arriving friend was told she'd need to wait 30 mins just for raisin toast. Perhaps cutting back a couple of tables to reduce the number of covers on farmers market days could work to fix this issue? We'll keep supporting the Farm Cafe and really hope this can be sorted soon.

Great location, friendly staff and a wonderful kids menu. Surrounded by fresh air and looking out to the lush green paddock, chooks and peacocks roaming freely on the grounds, it’s easy to forget that you’re actually only 5km away from the heart of the city! Yet, sitting at the cafe you feel as though you’re on a quaint farm on the country-side. Entry to the cafe can be either through Collingwood Children’s Farm or through the front entrance of The Farm Cafe. You’ll be greeted with welcoming staff who are passionate about making sure that both adults and children are looked after and you’ll immediately feel that this cafe has ‘family friendly’ at it’s heart.

Animals running around + Brekkie = Fun. Wow, I had such a good fun sipping a nicely brewed cuppa, having my breakfast with chickens running around. Food is surprisingly good and the staff very attentive. It is such a relaxing place and the kids were having such a good time. Nice timeout from the urban corporate stressed out lifestyle. You have to buy the farm entry ($8) in order to get access to the outside part of the cafe for some animal fun.

GREAT PLACE!!!!. Visited Farm Cafe for the second time on Saturday 13th September. As usual the place was very busy.<br/>Staff are always so friendly, coffee is brilliant and food delicious.... I had the Swiss Brown.<br/>Well done guys, keep up the great work and cannot wait to visit again.
Passport
Great food but not worth the wait. Dear Tom (the owner of the cafe). Couple here in mid-20s. We visit lots of cafes and this weekend we wanted to try The Farm Cafe. It looked promising. Generally great reviews on this website. We decided to check it out.<br/>We arrived at 12.30pm. It was busy. The wait staff were really friendly but it took 15 minutes to get table water and to take our coffee and food order. Fifteen minutes later, the coffee arrived (at which stage, I was withered by caffeine withdrawals). Coffee was average by Melbourne cafe standards; I get soy, it tasted like the cheap stuff they use in country town cafes.<br/>Anyway. Food took an hour to arrive and it wasn't just us waiting - table next to us, party of four, were waiting an eternity too (and making it known). The couple next to us left after their coffees - and a long wait.<br/>Our food finally arrived. I had the green eggs - tasty! Great portion size, loved how the fennel mixed with the cheese. Well done. Yum.<br/>Partner's meal was also fantastic. Could tell the kitchen puts love into its food.<br/>But... not worth the wait.<br/>In February 2014 you replied to another reviewer whose review was almost verbatim to mine (now in August 2014). "It's always really tough to know that we haven't provided a good experience ... [but] when someone takes the time to make it so clear exactly went wrong. It empowers us greatly to fix it. If I could get a review like this each day from the person that had the worst experience it would help make our business so much better."<br/>Tom, some suggestions:<br/>- Ensure the place is appropriately staffed to meet customer demand. Didn't seem to be enough waitstaff and, judging by the fact we nearly had to change our brunch order to a dinner one, not enough staff in the kitchen either.<br/>- Ensure your waitstaff is better trained to deal with delays<br/>If there's an hour wait for food when you arrive, the waitstaff MUST warn customers. (Relax, they've heard the food is good so you're unlikely to scare them off - but the heads-up will go a long way, as it would have for us.)<br/>If not, waitstaff must tell customers when their food is delayed and overestimate the ETA of the food.<br/>If neither of these things happen, the waitstaff are at least obliged to apologise to customers who waited forever. Make our coffees free - at great cafes, this a not uncommon practice in our experience - and we might come back.<br/>Unfortunately none of this happened during our first visit and we are unlikely to return to The Farm Cafe. Nothing personal - Melbourne cafe goers are spoiled for excellent cafes and currently The Farm Cafe isn't keeping up, there are too many other cafes who will give you a better coffee/meal/experience for your $20. We don't want to risk The Farm Cafe again unfortunately (particularly reading reviews so similar to mine from six months ago).<br/>A shame because your cafe is in a lovely spot and the food was great!<br/>Good luck!

Good food if your willing to wait!. I've been here a few times, the food is always nice, but they never seem to be able to keep up with demand. Quite often they run out of the food on their specials menu, on this visit I think there were only 2 out of the 5 special dishes actually available. On all their tables they had menus advertising scones with jam and cream, which we were going to order, however surprise, surprise they had run out. Also we waited an excessively long time for our food probably 45+ minutes, we were close to walking out! The thing that gets me is there is no apology, no checking in on you from the waitresses, or an explanation as to why it's taking so long. It's actually always a mission just to try and get someone's attention. Our hot chocolates were also cold. I love this cafe and it's style plus being dog friendly is a huge bonus for us, but having this experience more than once now I really don't think I'll be back.
Just A Customer
Finally found a great pet friendly cafe. This place is absolutely wonderful. The staff are so welcoming and nice even when it is busy and fully pumping on a weekend. My partner and myself brought our new puppy here and we loved it and so did our new pup. They have a great menu selection and the coffee is amazing.

The wait is toooo long. I have been wanted to come to Farm Cafe for nearly a year and i finally made it today. I was in a great mood this morning and really enjoyed the atmosphere of walking into the cafe, the view and settings are just lovely! However, the wait for food is just too long to ruin all my good mood. >

Nice place. Such a nice place to relax and enjoy the nature while sipping a cup of coffee. The scones are delicious, great coffee and friendly staffs. A recommended place to visit especially on a sunny day :)
Tomatosauce
I was really eager to try this cafe but unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity. My mum and I waited at the two "please wait to be seated" signs and not only were we not greeted, two of three girls who were all behind the coffee machine, looked over and said NOTHING and didn't even smile or acknowledge us . We were just absolutely ignored. We patiently waited for a few minutes but still ignored. It would be really easy to say "hey guys won't be long".I understand maybe there was a rush of coffees being 3pm afternoon tea time and you've had a long day and just want to go home but my mum and I wouldn't haven't stayed long or been difficult. We left feeling very disappointed. Went to convent bakery instead where we were much more welcomed. Obviously staff not enjoying their job as service was very very poor and as such we will not return seeing as staff clearly have a "can't be bothered" attitude.

Goats toast disgusting!. We love the CWCF and the cafe is just beautiful to look at. BUT the food is so disappointing. No thought about what it tastes like at all. The goats toast I had this morning was awful. It is advertised as goats curd, avocado, beetroot RELISH and a poached egg on toast. Do they know what a RELISH should be?? It either goes on the side as a condiment or is provided as a subtle addition to the other flavours. This dish is a heap of relish at least a jar full on each piece of toast, with ONE egg on one piece, a tiny bit of goats curd and half an avocado. The bread was mushy and it was inedible. This place better start serving better food or people will be sitting on one pot of tea while their kids play. PICK IT UP GUYS!

Love this cafe. Mid week bliss is visiting the farm cafe. Staff are friendly and the food fantastic. The green eggs with quinoa is divine for us peeps trying to avoids carbs...I would love to see a panacotta dessert or cannoli to go with a coffee. Also if you like ginger tea they have the best. Well done.

Mixed Feelings. I had Brunch here on the weekend with friends, our first visit to the farm. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table (cant book) which was fine, we looked around and were called when our table was ready. The menu was very egg based, everything came with poached eggs, great if your an egg fan. I did ask if you could get the eggs anyway and was told poached or fried and could be done hard if you request. I opted for the mushrooms with polenta with eggs. I found the mushrooms tasty but seriously a few tablespoons of mushrooms and a few slithers of polenta with runny eggs (after requesting hard) I was still hungry after breakfast which never happens. Friends had the Farmers Big Breakfast and the beans were cold, eggs again not cooked as per request. The flavours were all bland nothing to rave about and considering the prices are not what I would say cheap (ie $17) I have mixed feeling about this place, the coffee was nice, service was great just think the meals themselves would not draw me back there again, it would be more the location that's the winner. Others at the table all agreed that food was basic but lovely Sunday spot if you can get a table.

Wasn't expecting much from this place, just another hippy cafe in Collingwood. Boy was I wrong, hands down the best breakfast dish ever. Green eggs. The aioli was yum, quinoa salad delicious and eggs were so orange it was like it was out of a photo. There were some areas for improvement though. The coffee was ok but not great and the service leaves a lot to be desired. There wer lots of staff but there was no urgency in there action. We also got a take away coffee on the way out of the farm and it took 20min! Come on guys not good enough. You need to sort your systems out because your wait staff are all over the place. I will go back one day just for my green eggs. Please don't change it because it is perfect.

LOVE IT!! We went this morning with three generations of our family for breakfast, service was great, coffee fantastic and meals were delicious. Great atmosphere too. Wish I could take them here every weekend, we will definitely be back. Thank you :-)
A Rhubarb Rhapsody
An hour to get breakfast, bad coffee.. I really wanted to love this place. We come to the farmer's market every month but had never been to the cafe before. We were hoping it would be great and we'd have breakfast there every time we visited the markets. Unfortunately it was a real let down and we won't be returning.<br/><br/>We deliberately got there early because we knew it got busy. We sat down at about 8:45am. the waitresses were friendly. We waited 15 minutes for our order to be taken. We ordered two coffees and a juice for drinks. For our meals we ordered the breakfast crumble, bacon and poached eggs on toast and toast with honey for the kidlet. 30 minutes after we arrived our coffees were delivered, really bad pour guys, wish I'd grabbed coffee on the way. It took an hour from when we sat down for our meals to arrive which was just insane. Especially with a 3 year old itching to go see the animals.<br/><br/>There was no apology, no explanation, nothing. The real kicker was the cafe was only half full. There was a decent amount of staff but everyone seemed to be running around like chooks with their heads cut off.<br/><br/>Now to the long awaited food. My breakfast crumble was very good, decent portion and very tasty. My husband's poached eggs, toast and bacon were good but not great. My son's honey and toast was laughable. I don't think I've ever seen a smaller piece of toast in my life, it also looked to be from a $2 bag of sliced bread you'd get at the supermarket. I get it, kids won't really care but as the paying parents, we do.<br/><br/>This place has a lot of potential. But it really needs some work. Organisation is very poor. The waitresses are trying and are friendly but some direction is very clearly needed. The kitchen needs to get their act together. An hour for a simple breakfast when the cafe's only half capacity is terrible by anyone's standards. <br/><br/>Also, fly traps would be great in the warmer weather. I saw one poor family desperately trying to fend off flies from the meals of their 3 kids and failing badly.

Coffee inconsistent. Fantastic location. Really pleasant looking over the farm. It's a shame the coffee is unpredictable in it's quality. The last I had at the farm was watery and burnt. I tipped it out.

Really enjoyed weekend special of grilled asparagus, softened leek and spinach, crumbed poached eggs with truffle salt. This top class dish was a clever creation, visually appealing and most satisfying to the taste buds! Yum!

Farm Cafe you wee gem. Hiring a car for the day toot toot ended up at this wee gem tucked in the grounds of the convent. It feels like eating outdoors but your kinda indoors as it's very much open plan with the tress surrounding. The staff are friendly and warm. They serve loose leaf tea which is always nice to see as a non coffee drinker ,cafĂŠs often forget about us brew drinkers in the heavily coffeed melbourne! Food wise we ordered the farmers breakfast and green eggs. Cannot complain the breakfast was rare ( not in an undercooked way) and the egg dish was light and delicious! Bloody perfect poached egg! Now going for a gander round the grounds to let my breaky sink down. We will be back ! Shamone to that!

Gorgeous place in a gorgeous setting. Service was attentive and friendly. The four of us thought the goats toast with goats cheese, beetroot, avocado and poached egg was delicious though we all agreed it needed two poached eggs, not one. Overall, loved it.

Mmmm. Was delightful will be back for more

Even better than before.... Loved the food each time I've been here since the reopening - loved this place in the past but reckon it's gone to another level since the relaunch; definite favourites are the Goat's Toast with bacon and the Ploughman's breakfast...fun to eat! Coffee good, service friendly....really love the vibe of this place and the beautiful setting only serves to add to the experience. Will be back!

Superb food at the Farm Cafe. The Collingwood Children's Farm is a wonderful outing with the kids - milk the cow, cuddle the goats, pat the horses and hold a guinea pig. Top this off with a visit to the Farm Cafe for Goat's Toast and a coffee. Great affordable food, fantastic environment and attentive staff.

Great place for the kids and a family meet up,the kids can get up really up close to the animals, love the goats in the paddock, the cafe has good food and coffee.

The beautiful farm cafe has stepped up a notch, with stylish decor and delicious food, which is fresh and classy. Great kids options, the kids ploughmans plate is a stroke of genius for kids who like separate foods! It feels like a great fit for the farm, and has obviously been put together with great thought for both the environment and for good, nutritious eats. Yum.

Not a happy farmer. Good location - but no excuse to serve less than average food. The food was overpriced, and small portion sizes. Milkshakes were good though! <br/>Definitely will not be back, except to see the chickens :)

Give it a miss. We used to really like this cafe and looked forward to its reopening. We went a month ago and it was pretty bad but we thought we'd give it another go. A mistake. Peppermint tea that tasted as if it had been made with warm water from the tap. Chipped crockery, chairs that are dangerously decrepit and the food blaah. And expensive. Go somewhere else
Kate
Food took 40 mins and arrived stone cold and under cooked. No table service and sit amongst the chook poo. Coffee size tiny and served in a take away cup. Totally overpriced. Will never return. Don't go there.

Waisted opportunity - the best thing this cafe has to offer is it's superb location which is first class however even this is soured because the farm customers and the 'cycle path' customers are separated. If you chose to enter the farm and then use the cafe you are literally stuck on the wrong side of the fence with relatively second rate service and facilities while you watch those on the other side get full table service etc. Apart from the location everything else is mediocre there is a long wait for your order and while the food is only ok it is highly priced.

Portions are tiny, but tasty. The Niçoise salad came in a tiny bowl literally half filled, as in all pushed to one side. Very weird and so expensive for the amount of food you end up getting. Green eggs were tasty but also quite small. The cafe is really nice though and the frozen apple juice is great for hot days.

Good food but they could work on there customer service waited 1 hour for a coffee

I had breakfast at the farm cafe with 6 other adults and 2 babies, which i thought might be a stretch but turned out to be nothing of the sort. The food was fantastic, the coffee hot and strong and the service very good given the changes post renovations. Absolutely love this cafe and it just keeps getting better! Welcome back!
Paul
Oh dear what has happened to this cafe. Cold poached eggs. Luke warm extra hot coffee. Staff a bit disorganised, coffees coming after breakfast served. Breakfast Melba was like an instant pudding. Sorry guys we won't be back
Tom
The Farm Cafe is now open!. The Farm Cafe has been closed for a while for renovation but as of the 21st of January is it open!

Closed for refurbishments until end of 2012. Please note this cafe is closed for refurbishments until end of 2012.

Absolutely brilloant. One of the best places to have breakfast in Melbourne. Great food at surprisingly reasonable prices. Beautiful setting on banks of the Yarra. Feels like you are in the country but, in fact, only a few kms from the CBD. A must if you have young kids as it is literally inside the Children's Farm.

Seems to have fallen off the apple cart since refurbishing. Lots of friendly staff but the slowest coffee service on record.Food arrived 10 mins before the coffee. What's going on?<br/><br/><br/>-----05 Jan, 2012-----<br/><br/>Soooo GOOOOD!!!!!. We went there to try breakfast and came away with full tummies and big smiles. The "goats toast" was absolutely scrumptious.TI was so lovely to be able to enjoy it with all the family too. This is definetly the first of many visits. <br/>YUMMO! <br/>Only tip is it seems to get busy around cow milking time which is 10 am so grab a seat round 9am to avoid a wait.

Great day out. You would be hard pressed to find a cafe in a better location than the Farm Cafe. They somehow manage to cater for all different types of people and maintain consistency no matter how busy it is (and it gets very busy!) <br/>Whether you are planning on going down on a weekend for a lively, fun time or are wanting to sneak an hour in the sun by yourself on the week days this is the place to do it.<br/>The goat's toast is an old favourite not to be missed and their selection of cakes and sandwiches to take away is extensive. My all time favourite is the brownie...moist and lots of hazelnuts...it is truly decadent.

Perfect. The most perfect lunch imaginable. Fresh, bursting with personality and Full of nutrition. Uncompromising in terms of quality of ingredients and reliably cheery and offbeat service. The new grass is greener is a must try.

Such a beautiful way to spend a few hrs.ideallic scenery & relaxed, casual atmosphere.I didn't have breakfast but one of delightful chicken & avocado sandwiches & chai latte.ingrediants were fresh & tasty & more importantly bread real and rustic - tired of being served tiptop in cafes!not a large menu but number of delighful egg inspired breakfast dishes & amazing cakes.would definately recommend for morning or afternoon tea to beat the crowds.the only downside is limited parking even with the paid parking lot.we arrived for lunch fri & took 1/2 to find a park.weekends be vry challenging.aside from this a truly delightful experience-highly recommended!
Beth
Lives up to the good reviews!. What can I say? The big breakfast absoultely hit the spot, quality bacon and sausages and perfect eggs...the chooks wondering around are a cute touch too....service was brilliant despite being incredibly busy...excellent first visit to the farm!

Nostalgic cafe. The Farm Cafe is a rare find in Melbourne.<br/>Not only will you stumble across a children's farm only 5 km's from the city but a lovely open-air cafe perfect in summer, bringing you delightful fresh produce & what I believe to be some of the best food in Melbourne.<br/><br/>The food and surroundings go hand in hand, this space is charming, relaxed and beautiful.<br/>The Goat's Toast is my favourite at the cafe: Sourdough topped with beetroot relish (yum), plenty of goats cheese, avocado with greens and a poached egg at $16.50<br/><br/>A market on the 4th Saturday of each month is open to the public next door at the stunning Abbotsford Convent.

Brekkie. Farmers breakfast (mushies, bacon, sausage, hash, tomato chutney, poached eggs, toast) - excellent. Good coffee.
In Your Pants
Wholesome and Pretentious... who would think?. We love the Farm Cafe... get there on a nice day, and its a great spot to enjoy the quiet of Collingwood (yep... just this little square of the cafe and the Children's Farm... thats your lot pal!). <br/><br/>Food is good and well prepared. Quality ingredients make for a quality meal.<br/><br/>The only real negative are some of the customers... best described as urban hipster. There are two types...<br/>1- The ultra cool, brand-chic types that loll about having lattes, hogging tables for hours and letting the kids 'go native' (i.e. feral) in the farm grounds, and<br/>2- The art-involved, inner city scruffy types that scrape together enough coin for an afternoon latte and discussion (at volume) of the latest 'urban art installation and spoken word screaming match'... or something.<br/><br/>But don't let that stop you from coming down, you parents and young kids!!! Enjoy the peace and the good food of the Farm Cafe, and then get over to the Children's Farm.

Quirky unusual venue and perfect for children. Pity that it trades off its location so much, as the kitchen is *very* slow for the simple fare provided, most of which can be pre-prepared. Especially given that the high traffic is on weekends and public holidays. Some professional management and planning is required. Pity because the feel is so right... and the food is adequate but not inspirational. Some good flavour combinations and unusual sauces, and a few more warm comfort food type options would be welcome.
Cobbity Campbell
Best breakfast in Melbourne. Where else can you eat marvellous food surrounded by peacocks, designer chooks, and lush surroundings? The staff are nice, and it's a great place to bring kids.

Great family day out!. Had a family gathering here for Mothers Day and we all loved Farm Cafe's food, was a bit hectic trying to get a table for a group of 10 but we just hovered and managed to nab one in the end. The food was divine, we all had the Farmers breakfast with perfectly cooked free range eggs. Great choice for the kids too along side good coffee make this a great way to start your visit to the farm. We will return just for the food!
