Review The Ritz Cafe - Adamstown

This place has gone to the bottom of the hill. Food is disgusting, and way over cooked. chips are cold and when I called, care factor was less than zero.

I've been going to the Ritz for almost 55years. I still go everything I'm in Newcastle. It is an old fashioned Fish'n'chip shop that has used the same recipe since I was 5, and still provides the best value (& best fish'n'chips) around. The fish is huge, the scallops are huge, the batter is brilliant, the burgers are the best. When I was a kid people would drive up from Sydney (3 hours then) to go to the beaches and the Ritz. It's still the best bar none. And it is part of my childhood that is still there. Never mind the decor, you're not there for that. You're there for the food and you won't be disappointed.

Best takeaway shop in town, hashbrowns are 10/10 and the man knows how to cook a burger! Visit regularly and have never been able to fault them.

Been an institution for many years. Always remember how great it was to stop for takeaway dinner or a great hamburger for lunch, and as we hadn't been back for ages we were eager for a great feed. Clearly owners have changes again and the current people treat their customers like they are an irritation. THE WORST PART WAS THE FOOD!!!!! AWFUL SERVICE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE CLEARLY COOKED IN MONTH OLD OIL, WAY TO MUCH SALT AND ALL WITH AN INFLATED PRICE TAG. FACE IT NEWCASTLE THE RITZ CAFE IS G O N E !!!!!!!!

Wow. This place used to be great. What happened? The chips were feral, cold and shriveled. The Pluto pup batter wasn't cooked and was still raw and sloppy and the Frankfurt was cold and inedible. I'm really really disappointed considering dinner for 3 people cost us over $50.00.

Just had chips from the Ritz and they were overcooked and had far too much salt. Perhaps others have had the opposite experience, and they've overcompensated now? Leaving this in the hopes that this feedback helps the new owners get the balance right.

really fresh and yummy fish and chips, perfect for the spontaneous summer time chip sangas with friends and family.

I never write food reviews, i went here because it had a 4.5 star rating. Chips, fish and 'calamari'. Service was fast but this is not 4.5 star food at all. Very disappointed, money was wasted i didn't want to eat any of it after the first bite. Actually the worst fish and chips i've ever had.
