Review Concubine - Adelaide

BC Q
A delightful experience - we arrived on a Tuesday evening to a restaurant buzzing with laughter and people enjoying a good night out. Ushered to our table and promptly served with menus - the service was warm and friendly (Jenifer and Cecil made us feel at home). The restaurant is nicely decorated and has an upmarket feel and prices were real sable. The food was delicious and authentic - serve portions were fine and each dish was meant to be shared family style. The lamb ribs and the pork belly were standouts! The wine menu had enough variety and overall we had a great evening. Keep up the good work! Reservations definitely recommended. We’ll definitely be back when ever we visit Adelaide!

Staff and food was wonderful!. Quick service regardless of how busy they were. Lychee Martini is a delightful drink, all the cocktails are fun and unique. Beef cheek and Pork in dark soy sauce is a must try.

They have amazing service and really friendly staff. This is a kids friendly place and highly recommend for fine dining family experience. Every order came out in right time. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious.

Fantastic food and lovely service. A little on the pricey side however the portions are very generous and the food really is delicious. We ate here three times during our recent trip to Adelaide and highly recommend!
Susan Richards
Very disappointed with the food. Stir fry veg had 1 leaf of bok choy and didn’t even fill 1/2 the container with the remaining very basic onion & cauliflower. $96 for takeaway for two should be better than this.

Our first time here. We found the staff friendly, knowledgeable & very efficient. The food was excellent & generous servings. The drinks menu was more that adequate, fairly priced & caters for all tastes. I'm more than comfortable in recommending Concubines if you've never been & we'll certainly return! Deserves 4.5 stars, not quite 5.

A beautiful atmosphere and the food was the best Chinese I’ve ever had. The fragrant golden chicken was unbelievably good. And the service was kind and efficient. I asked the ladies to change tables to a quieter table to the side, she jumped straight on to it for me. Such a fantastic evening here.

I try to visit this restaurant every time I'm in Adelaide and over many years have never been disappointed. A recent visit with guests was again a taste sensation. We ordered multiple dishes and shared tastes. Could not find fault or decide what we liked most. Service was excellent and the bill, which included wine and beer was very reasonable. Thank you Concubine, will be back the next time I'm lucky enough to come to Adelaide.

Yum! Tasty dishes, great service - so friendly. They were very understand in regards to fussy eaters and assisted where ever possible. Will be coming back.

Food was great and service friendly. It was extremely noisy though. We were a large table and you could only hear the people next to you. The function room we were in was very echoey. We left earlier than we usually would have because of this. I would recommend going with a few people and sitting in the main part of the restaurant as the food was yummy.

We had our Xmas work dinner here last Saturday night. The food was cooked perfectly, fresh and flavoursome. We had a banquet style menu and every dish was delicious. The only fault was we didn't have the right quantity for all of us to try each dish. We were a large group to attend to and our wine glasses were refilled frequently, great service. A lovely night had by all.

AMAZING! Spent a lot of time in China for work and this stuff was GOOD! People’s choice was one of the specials - dry roasted chicken with lemongrass, curry leaves, chills and other spices I can’t remember. Both of the mocktails were also excellent.
Lisa
Was there 8years ago and the quality has not changed. The food was excellent. I had my daughter’s baptismal reception there. Great service with great food. Highly recommend it.

Oh my gosh, this place is seriously a hidden bomb in Adelaide! <br/>I had the SA Prawns with lime salt.. I dream about when I’ll be having that again! <br/>I also had the brûlée for dessert and banana!! I honestly cannot fault anything! <br/>Service was on point, meals were quick, fresh and just mouth watering!! Yum yum yum!!!!!
Lucy
Work function. With good company this was hands down the best Cantonese food I've ever eaten.<br/>Huge serves of the freshest tastiest most succulent morsels. Unobtrusive professional seamless service.<br/>A wonderful atmosphere for a Tuesday evening.<br/>Cannot wait to return.

My Favourite restaurant. Worth every cent. Have never left unhappy, and I've been over a dozen times! Best Asian in town. And young lady at the front of house is very professional
Sandhya1814
Amazing efficient service. Had the eggplant stuffed with prawn, veg fried rice, kung po chicken and lamb. The cumin lamb was my most fav! The veg fried rice was also great!
Pip David
Absolutely great food and wonderful service. We had the banquet, which was not only very affordable, it including plenty of food. Atmosphere was also great, can not fault.
Hello. Imnikki
We came here as part of a huge group, around 38 of us, and we had the whole upstairs area to ourselves. Service and decor were untypical of a true blue Asian restaurant, and were more aligned with the modern and elegant image that they were trying to portray. Attentive and efficient service, dim (bordering on dark) and moody lighting, traditional lanterns and vintage-looking paintings adorning the interior, and lots of rosewood furniture. This worked well for them because they could charge a somewhat higher price for common dishes, but what they had going for them was that the end products were mostly flawless. While the dishes may sound and look simple, the execution and the taste left us wanting more. The seafood and the greens were fresh, and there was not one dish that was too oily or over-seasoned. Flavours were delicate and spot on. The only issue I had was with the sweet and sour pork - too much batter! My partner didn’t enjoy the deep-fried prawns but I did so each to its own. With so much food and such generous portion sizes (5-6 plates of each dish to share between all of us), we couldn’t finish everything and had to doggy bag them.

Had a meal here with some colleagues. We had a mix of entrees and all were tasty. For main I had the chicken and string bean dish which was nice. The crispy eggplant dish was delicious and I would recommend that you try it even if you do not like eggplant. Service was good and food came out very quickly.

I wouldn't say its the best food I've eaten but it certainly is just good Chinese food with a modern twist. Beef cheek was extremely tasty and soft and the cantonese fried rice had a good flavour to it. Not bad overall but not amazing either. 😊 certainly lots of other dishes id love to try!! Duck wraps and dumplings were recommended as popular items. <br/>

Food was absolutely delicious, full of flavour and generous portions! Staff were very attentive and friendly. Will definitely come back if we're in Adelaide.
Good Food Good Mood
I'll be honest as tourists in Radelaide we chose this place purely on the name. Luckily for us we had a mouthwatering Chinese food experience. It's contemporary Asian fusion and was easily the best food I had during my five days in the land of churches. It was pretty much the only place we ate where our meal didn't come with a complimentary bread roll. Now food wise I tend to live by 'if it's free it's for me' but get that aeroplane dinner roll out of my face. A much more refined experience at Concubine

Concubine deserves its accolades. Very tasty and generous portions. Great range of SA seafood, not imported. Each meal has its own flavour and not generically same same.Service is great . $19 corkage This is not your ordinary Chinese Asian cuisine. Must try!

I have heard so much about Concubine and everyone tells me how much they love it here, but after my recent experience I had mixed thoughts. We went for dinner on a busy Saturday night. The service was spot on, wait staff were very attentive without being overbearing. There was a good wine and cocktail list, I had the Shanghai summer which was very tasty and not too sweet. We shared 2 entrees, the pork buns and the duck pancakes. Both were very tasty but I feel for the price you could have got a bigger quantity. The mains we ordered were the beef curry and the sticky pork ribs. The curry was their take on a massaman beef however it was very disappointing. The meat was tough and dry and there wasn't much sauce for you to soak up with steamed rice that we also ordered. The meal I feel had been sitting on the pass as it was on the cooler side. The pork ribs were really tasty, sticky and sweet and delicious. They were tricky to eat elegantly so if you're on a first date avoid ordering them. Again they weren't very hot when they came to the table. We didn't look at the dessert menu so I can't comment on that. Surcharge of 3% if you use your Amex. I would probably go again but I feel a better option is ordering lots of entrees and sharing between everyone at the table.
Ed
Flavours 4/5. Service 4/5. Value 2/5. Concubine manages authentic Chinese flavours but at a price - light, fresh and delicate. Skip the entrees and go straight for the mains. And pretend the non-Chinese menu items like Pad Thai and curries aren't there and you could be transported to China.
Carissa
Great service, great food! Staff were very friendly and will go out of their way to make the meal special for birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
Arijit Das
One of my favorite places in Adelaide to indulge in good food and wine that the state of SA is known for. My go to dish as always is the Pad Thai! These guys on Gouger do it like no one else. It's not oily. It's so fresh. And the prawns so delicious it feels that they have been just caught only for you! Excellent drinks list to match both your dinner and your palette!

We had the most wonderful meal here thanks to Jim Barry wines members club. An amazing set menu with so much beautiful flavoursome food. We enjoyed an amazing chicken and corn soup to start with the most devine seafood dumplings. Fantastic salt and pepper calamari, a stir fry prawn, scallop, fish and calamari dish then crispy fried barramundi, salt and pepper tofu. The food, location accompanied by beautiful Jim Barry wine was truly amazing. We will definitely be back. Best Chinese food in Adelaide.
Steven Grace
Fantastic food and the decor was modern. The service was great too and the waiters were very friendly. Had the crispy duck with salad and the dumplings were amazing.
Melbourne Foodie
Went on a busy Friday night with group of 10 and had a banquet menu. Chicken sweet corn soup was nice, dumplings not authentic, seafood was really good, Peking duck was terrible dry, not enough sauce, not sure what part of the duck they used but it was really average. Pork belly was the worst dish of the night, chewy, red coloured over sweet food court rubbish. Salt and pepper calamari was perfect so a really mixed bag here. Would consider returning and choosing own items but probably won't as service was also terrible.
Rachel Pankhurst
Top quality local produce, friendly attentive waitstaff and amazing food. This is what I call top class Asian cuisine. I'm going back to adelaide soon just to go back to concubines.

An amazing place! Perfect for that fancy dinner!<br/><br/>We ordered the chicken and corn soup, pork and buns, fried rice, Kung pao chicken, kingfish in yellow curry and fried banana and coconut ice cream. <br/>Soup was fine, buns were great but would've liked a bigger serving for the price!<br/>Chicken was nice. But my favourite was the fish and curry. Really fantastic and full of flavour. Fish was beautifully cooked!<br/>To top that off was a wonderful dessert of fried banana and coconut ice cream. Honestly again would've liked to have seen a bigger serving for the price and I probably prefer this dessert with vanilla ice cream. Regardless it was a great take at a classic dessert!<br/><br/>Service here was good and pleasant. Our drinks order was very late (probably forgotten), but when brought to their attention they were sincerely apologetic and prompt in service. Not to mention as a way of apologising our drinks were on the house. <br/><br/>Overall nice, good Asian food with decent service but probably a bit over priced.
Julian.stephens72
Amazing food, amazing service. Was sweating like a rabbit at a greyhound meet after the spicy lamb main, so they brought me strawberries & icecream on the house! Plus, a glass of beautiful Tokay. Chilli squid started was out of this world!<br/><br/>You have to try it!
JZ
Absolutely amazing! I would 10/10 recommend this to anyone visiting Adelaide! The food was to die for specifically the ; Crispy Pork Belly with Chinese style pickled vegetables and Crispy prawn and pork wontons with chilli jam - I could eat them all day every day if I had to!!! We also ordered the; crispy squid, Pad Thai, Kung Pao’ chicken with Szechuan chilli & cashews and Braised Lamb Shoulder in a light soy finished with a Thai chilli jam which would definitely be ordered again.<br/>The service was exceptional, staff were so well mannered, accommodating and friendly that it made the whole experience sensational! Would 100% be recommending to friends and will certainly be back when visiting Adelaide again!!

The place is awesome. The staff are great. I asked if we can move tables as the large group were a little noisy and they were more than happy to move us. They offered us the the chefs selection banquet for 4 people and it was amazing. Heaps of food for everyone. So tasty, so delicious. They even allowed me to choose my own dishes. Can't wait to go back.

This place has been around for ages, and after dining here, it's not hard to see why. It is a touch more expensive compared to other Asian restaurants on this street, but for this you get a refined dining experience, superb food and fabulous service - a trifecta that doesn't happen very often on Gouger. Book ahead!
World In A Bite
Delicious chinese fusion food in adelaide! Highly recommended! Decors and service are superb 💁🏻 add this on your wish list 😉.
Jake
Some of the dankest Asian meals in Adelaide. The pork belly was really tender and delicious. Along with the Angus beef curry. The service was excellent. I highly recommend concubine for a quality Asian meal.
Raph M
If you had a bunch of friends who happen to be slight snobs and would like to eat something fancier, then Concubine is the place to bring them. Granted, it's a bit more on the finer dining side but still fairly reasonable. <br/><br/>Concubine elevates your standard Chinese/SEA food into plates of elegance and sophistication. All the flavours are spot on. We got the pork ribs which were tender, the beef with peanut sauce which was a standout and the lamb rack that fell off the bone. It was quality food at a quality restaurant.<br/><br/>Hot tip! Make sure you make a booking because it is pretty in demand.
Ben Napoli
The BEST modern Asian you'll find. If anyone knows of anything better please let me know. I have eaten here well over 20 times and have never had a bad meal. I have introduced many people, including interstate friends to concubine and each time people have been very impressed. Will not (I've tried hard) find a better salt&pepper squid anywhere. The kung pao chicken is also a must..
Rachael
The staff were fantastic! We didn't have a booking, but they managed to create a table in a fully booked restaurant & we were treated well all night. <br/>The food was also great. The salt & pepper tofu was a hit, as well as the Nam Jim salad special, which probably stole the show. <br/>We dined with family from interstate, who requested Concubine. Now we see why, We will be back!
SirDineAlot
Consistently good. Always have a good experience and good service when we go there. Easy to get to, good atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. Food is always fresh and good quality.
C Mc
We visited for dinner last night. The crispy squid with salad was one of the best salt and pepper squid we had ever tried, and the chicken spring rolls were great! I also had the coconut prawns which were delicious although there was little pieces of shell or something in certain areas that I had to keep taking off. We didn't really like the mahjong chicken which was very fatty tasting.<br/><br/>The waitress was lovely although they were really busy so between getting our table cleared we waited about 20-25 minutes for the bill despite saying no to dessert. Still a lovely experience and I'd visit again :)
Laura
A bit disappointing. The tofu and snow pea sang choy bow had no snow peas but it was still delicious. The shallot cakes were too undercooked - far better across the road at East Taste. The BBC was nice and the shiitake mushrooms were a nice addition. The bok choy was great. The S&P tofu was very bland. The service was average and I let very rushed, which isn't nice when you're at a more formal restaurant. <br/>All in all, the food at Concubine was quite good but the service and atmosphere wasn't any different to the rest of Chinatown, so I wouldn't bother returning when I can pay a third of the price for the same food quality and experience elsewhere.
Zoe L
For entree we had Tofu and snowpea sang choi bao lettuce wraps were which fresh, crunchy and smokey in flavour (I would of enjoyed these as a main) and the Beijing shallot cake with light soy which had a nice five spice flavour but were a bit under cooked.<br/><br/>For main Salt & pepper bean curd with Murray pink salt which was lacking in the salt and pepper and the Baby soya, bean curd, shiitake mushroom & chilli - again a lovely smoky flavour in this dish. On the side we had Chinese bok choy stir-fried with garlic (can't go wrong).<br/><br/>Ambience and service was amazing but the food was a bit of a let down in comparison to my favourite Chinese Restaurant a few doors down. Lovely setting for a nice dinner for two and I would recommend to anyone looking for a more formal setting on Gouger, however I wouldn't return in a hurry.
Natalie
Another great night dining at Concubine! We always get the crispy squid with apple and leaf salad for entree - so tasty and every component of the dish works well together. We also ate the steamed deluxe dim sims and the pork salad on special. I liked the dim sims, it had great flavour and the texture was good - I especially liked the burst of the flying fish roe on top. My favourite mains were the slow braised beef cheek with black bean and the salmon special in banana leaf and red sambal. The beef cheeks were amazing! It was so tender - pulled beef goodness. The salmon special was spicy! But just the right amount that was enjoyable, loved the fish with the red sambal that was well balanced. <br/><br/>Great atmosphere - the restaurant is dimly lit with glowing lights and candles. The restaurant was lively and had a full house whilst we were there. <br/><br/>Although the restaurant had a full house, the service was fantastic. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and provided extremely prompt service. They also asked us numerous times throughout the night whether everything was ok. Food came out promptly after ordering, table water was continuously topped up throughout the night. <br/><br/>Overall, a fabulous enjoyable night - amongst great friends, great food, great wine and great service. Definitely will continue dining here as it is always an amazing experience.
Dereanie
Dereanie. NOT SO GOOD TODAY!!<br/><br/>The head chef must have been on sick leave today.<br/>Our lobster was over cooked and rubbery.<br/>The Creme Brulee had separated and was slightly burnt.<br/>Our glass of sparkling was at room temperature.<br/>Not good for the price we paid.
Mummythefoodielover
Went here with some girlfriends on Saturday night.. it was simply amazing! Great vibe and service but most of all the food was simply beautiful. Loved the salt/pepper squid and really loved the coconut prawns! Highly recommend just book in advance for a table!!!
Angie-Marie Piantadosi
funky place with a cool atmosphere, service was on the mark and the waiters are friendly and at your service at the blink of an eye and food came out super quick and was great too! only downfall is the shared tables i'm not a fan but there was a lot more room then on other ones I have sat on before at other places!
Rosco
<br/>Great food, good service little noisy but that just added to the atmosphere!! Had the banquet which was plentiful and good size servings. Would definity go back again😄<br/>
Sandeep
Great food!<br/>The crème brulé is delicious as are the mains. <br/>Friendly service and good portion sizes. You will not be dissatisfied by concubine.
Biggiechee
I went there with 8 work colleagues and we ordered the chef's special. It was pleasantly surprising, with 4 entres and 4 main dishes. Each dish was delicious and more than sufficient quantity for each. My favourite was the char siu pork.
Lolly
I go to Concubine a lot. Their food is consistent and consistently good! I love their duck pancakes and the sang Choy bao. The Kung pow chicken is amazing! They get their balance of flavours right and the variety in their menu is very good. Solid local and Australian wine list, with good options by the glass. Pricing is slightly more expensive that many of the small Chinese eateries in Gouger Street, but worth it, in my view. The atmosphere is always good, if not a bit noisy when the restaurant is full. Service can be a bit hit and miss, but I've never had a disaster here. The staff are always very helpful and friendly, but sometimes lack attentiveness to finer details like drinks and being alert to tables trying to get their attention. They are good with kids and there is enough on the menu to find something that most kids will like. Might try to go there again this week...
Danielle
Great service and wonderful food plus vegan options - thumbs up

Delicious!. I have been to Concubine twice now, and both times were some of my best dining experiences. We ordered a variety of dishes to serve as a banquet and each dish was superb. I couldn't fault anything! Stand out dishes were the tea smoked duck with plum compote, braised beef cheeks with black bean and sugar snap peas and twice cooked ribs. Would definitely recommend to everyone. Service was also outstanding!
TheWorldLovesAdelaide
Concubine is an award winning fine dining Chinese restaurant that is distinctive in the precinct. Here we have sophisticated dining with specialty dishes including Peking duck pancakes with superb thin casing of the pancakes and perfectly cooked duck.
What's Cooking Good Looking
Main courses very ordinary. Entrees ok but we were charged $1.50 for 3 extra lettuce leaves we asked for because we were not given enough in the first place. Won't be back
Foodme
Just plain good!. Sometimes you go to restaurant and you just want to eat, you just want the food to be good. The food here was great. Those authentic asian flavours done well, we wanted to try everything and when were done eating and talking about how good it all was we noticed how nice a place it was, had a few drinks and kicked back for a while. Great place, would go again. Little pricey but its ok when you get good food, good service and atmosphere. Recommend it! For a nice group dinner.
Deb
Food great! Service great! And they provided that little extra for my birthday, totally recomend it
Shannynmcgrice
Expensive but tasty. I really enjoyed the flavors, but it was a bit pricey. We certainly didn't leave hungry, but weren't full either....
Foodie Quine
Delicious but pricey. Good for high end asian with a twist. You'll find all your favourites but cooked like you've never had them before.
Claire Lillian
Concubine. What an amazing place! I couldn't recommend this more!! As we had five people dining we were able to have a chef's selection banquet style menu. It was such a diverse selection of fresh and delicious Chinese flavours! I will be back!
JBN
Great food and service. Great value banquet.. Dined at Concubine twice in the past week. The second time was just to make sure the first wasnt a fluke. Concubine has to be one of the best Asian restaurants in Adelaide. If, like us, you cant be bothered with the menu, leave it up to the chefs. Not only was it great value but there was enough food to satisfy all. The flavours are clean and fresh and you can tell they use quality produce. The staff are very friendly and attentive too and your glass is never empty. Despite being a Saturday night with the restaurant completely packed for the second sitting, they didnt miss a beat. Highly recommend this place to anyone.

Can not get over how amazing the food was. One of the best experiences I've had in a restaurant due to the beautiful staff and the mouth watering food! Will definitly be returning very soon! So much on the menu that I want to try! Top class!

Came here to celebrate my 30th, had the banquet and boy it was amazing!!! Loved it!!!

Not your typical Chinese. To compare this to a "typical" or Traditional Chinese meal is just not right. Concubine offers non-traditional, more posh and modernised version your favorite Asian meal. I wouldn't even go on to say it's "Chinese" coz for me, it didn't really matter whether it was authentic Chinese; if anything, they offered some really nice Asian flavours. Food was cooked well, presented well, and tasted well. For my friend and I, we shared an entree of the soft shell crab that was topped with green apple salad (4pcs) and a main of beef cheeks. Both were really good. The amount of serving you get for the price you pay is probably less than what you would get at Ty Chow or Ba Guo Buyi. But there was definitely enough to share for the two of us. Flavors were really fresh. Play of texture in each plate of dish is definitely there: Crunchy soft shell crab with even crunchier topping of green apple salad, Beef cheeks were very tender and had a nice bed of vegetables. Service was great. The server was attentive without being overbearing. Ambience was nice too. Nice decor. Not too loud. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here again! Note though that if you're just really hungry and could eat anything, just save your money and eat in other places in Chinatown. I reckon their food needs to be savoured and appreciated. :)

Exceptional....every time!. Concubine is fantastic! Really. The setting is so elegant, the service is great and the food is exquisite. Having been several times, I have tried most items on the menu and each are as great as the last! Favourites include the Wagyu peanut beef curry and the Sarawak pepper and lime-infused salt and pepper prawns. Out of this world! The banquets are full of variety and the sang choi bao is fun as a group dish. Peking duck wraps are also delicious! Can't fault it.

As someone who doesn't eat out often, let alone Chinese cuisine, my husband and I had a business social dinner organised at this restaurant, I was apprehensive about going as I am vegan and gluten free due to intolerances and allergies. When we got there we were unaware there was a set banquet planned so I asked a waiter what there was on the set banquet menu suitable for me, looking through it didn't look good and I was prepared to just eat the plain rice BUT the waiter insisted on finding me an option! When we go to restaurants I am usually faced with a very boring, usually not even dressed green salad but at this restaurant I was greeted with an entree AND a main! The food was rich with flavour and amazing!!! We were so impressed that I could be included with the rest of the group and was treated normally without a fuss!!! So impressed!!!

Lovely food. The quality of the food here is great. My only slight qualification for my recent dining experience here was being positioned right next to the bar. Staff seemed to take little care when conversing or cleaning, meaning it was often hard to converse over exchanges (not muted, conducted in normal tones) between staff members, and the very noisy cleaning of glassware. Nor was there any awareness that these events may have been distracting (even irritating) from what is generally a pleasant ambience.<br/>Still loved the food, but if going there, be aware of where you may be positioned!
I Know Food Of Adelaide
AMAZING!!!!!. Wow.. just wow! The food at concubine is mouth watering. The squid salad is one of the best dishes they have to offer! I've been a few times now and it have never disappointed! Their food is always fresh and service is so quick and staff are very friendly and helpful. Prices are great for the quality of food you get as well. Will keep going back. There is so much cheap asian food on gouger street which is just rubbish but concubine is a standout for really great chinese food! Try the pork buns too - just delicious!! Well done Concubine!! Very deserving of your awards!
Justin L
Great food. Nice ambience, friendly service and importantly excellent food. The roast pork, duck wraps, tamarind duck, whole barramundi, cuci prawns all great. They use mainly local produce, Barossa pork and local king prawn. The prawns are served with their heads and the meat is full of flavour unlike the imported "plastic" prawns that are translucent, crispy but tasteless. One of the few places now that serve real prawns!
Bel Lala
Great friendly service, delicious well presented food and fantastic atmosphere.. What more could you ask for? Will definitely be returning easily one of the best Chinese restaurants in Adelaide!
Jane Robson
Interesting and delicious selection from this great venue. Love the ambience.
Jess
Great food. The food is so delicious. The shallot cake is a must!!! Staff are very professional. Great time
Eric.aarc
Listen to all your customers. Went there for lunch and ordered the Wagu beef curry, not Wagu beef.<br/>Was dry and tasteless. reported to the staff and was still charged for it. Don't expect a tip if your customer isn't happy.

Fantastic all round!. Went to Concubine for my Birthday with family including 18 month old niece and 2 week old nephew. Customer service was exceptional and the waiters were friendly, constantly attentive and were very accommodating to the children, even carrying the pram upstairs! We had a banquet and every single dish was exceptional - varied and flavorsome. We had plenty of food and it was very good value for money. The decor was lovely - we sat upstairs which had a nice atmosphere without being too loud. All round, it was definitely one of the best dining experiences I've had in Adelaide - highly recommend it!
Fussy But Fair
Consistently Brilliant. PERFECT - every time. Love this place.<br/><br/>Favourite dish is the prawn curry as a main and the sang choi bau as the entree (however you spell it)
Therese Slattery
Delicious! The best salt and pepper squid I have ever had! I'm not a huge fan of Asian food so this place definitely impressed!

Amazing food and AMAZING atmosphere, the staff are really nice and friendly. Highly recommended

Dined at Concubine on a cold wet Sunday night and was surprised by the number of diners. Ordered the entree of crispy pork belly and Peking duck wraps. Wraps were good but the pork belly served with pickled vegetables was very good. Szechuan chicken for main was good but the prawn coconut curry dish was great. <br/>I will back, food was good but not amazing. I have to admit the intimate atmosphere, attractive decor along with the excellent friendly staff are certainly a major contributing factor to what will be our return business. Not a fluorescent light to be seen or the scrape of plastic chairs on a lino floor to be heard. Bliss
Jenny
Enjoyable. I have eaten at Concubine twice and enjoyed the experience both times, although I have to say a banquet in the 'Secret Room' was the highlight. Felt like we were at a private dinner party with our own friendly staff. Nothing left to do but sit back and enjoy the company of friends and the delicious selection of foods we were presented. My second visit was downstairs in the main restaurant but still very nice. I have to admit that I can no longer remember what I ordered as it was last year, but I do recall preferring the entree to the main. I am not Chinese so am in no position to comment on its authenticity but judging by the popularity of Concubine, they are obviously doing something right.
DrZen
What a way to rip people off.. Anyone that has given a positive/good review are definitely non Asian or knows nothing about Asian food.. I find most people in Adelaide will think its good food when the decor is nice and the food is presented in a nice way... We eat with out mouth. Not with your eyes.. So don't judge the food if you know nothing about the cuisine . They decided to do yum cha for lunch... Worst then food court. Only had less then a handful to choose from. Dinner was not good.... Salty, not right flavour . Just imagine food court food, and use a fancy plate and friendly staff to serve it.
Nicole Christopoulos
Had the Chet's menu- I think around $45 per person (there were 6 of us) and were brought at least 5 entrees, mains and chose a dessert each. Delicious food, great service!
Famished
Exceeded Expectations. I dined here recently with two friends and we shared the following:<br/><br/>Entrees: Crispy squid with apple & leaf salad + Peking duck wraps <br/>Mains: Whole crispy Robarra barramundi with a dry red curry + Barossa free-range chicken with asian mushrooms & bok choy + Slow braised Barossa pork belly in dark soy<br/>Sides: Stir-fried thin egg noodles with wagyu beef <br/><br/>The squid was up there with the best I've tasted, beautifully complimented by the tartness of the apple. Barramundi was presented exquisitely and had a generous amount of chilli, for a terrific bite. All other dishes were great, leaving us comfortably filled, yet wanting more.

Fantastic! Every meal was great. The host was very helpful, polite and knowledgeable.

Friendly staffs. I went here after hearing about it being one of the best chinese restaurant in China town.It was suprising that it a quite small place. The food - entree was very good although the main were just above average. The manager (?) was very friendly and attentive. I also loved the tea pot they had. Compare to other chinese restaurant, I think the service is better than what is expected of a chinsese restaurants.

Ok,but there are better places for Chinese... Concubine is well marketed and has a thriving clientele, comprising mainly Anglo-Saxon?- European? clientele. We were the only Chinese that night in an almost full restaurant that night. Its obvious Concubine has pitched at the non-Chinese market, even the menu is written in European style with food arranged under Entree, Mains and dessert headings.<br/><br/>Well,the food ( eggplant, beef brisket and pork belly) were reasonably genuine in flavor and texture. However, fairly highly priced in terms of quantity. You can get as good or better in a 'normal' Chinese restaurant, with better value for money. However, that's not the niche market that Concubine has p[aced itself.<br/><br/>Glad that I finally tried it but go back again?....not likely, I think Mings Steam Boat is where I'll go.<br/><br/>Simple tenet...want a good Asian?, go where the Asians are...

My favourite restaurant in Adelaide. Amazing food, central location, great service and charming atmosphere. <br/><br/>Must try - soft shell crab salad (specials menu), peking duck wraps and pork buns.

Best Chinese Restaurant. Beautiful restaurant, and lovely food to complement. Highly recommend though the price is on the higher price compare to most restaurant around town

Nice food... fair price.... We have been to Concubine several times and always enjoyed the food. We have also got takeaway several times.<br/><br/>Price is fair for the nice food you get.<br/><br/>Wine list is OK, though we generally take our own wines as I'm a collector.<br/><br/>We would definitely go back when in the mood for nice Chinese.

Do yourself a favour. From out of town but always try to get to Concubine for one of the best Chinese meals anywhere in Australia. Chicken was delicious but the Barrimundi was brilliant. Don't forget to order the Peking Duck as a starter!
Happy Little Diner
Fantastic as always. Great service, lovely food. Do yourself a favour and order starters - they are amazing. We had the peking duck wraps, chicken sang choi bao and crispy squid with apple & leaf salad and all were delicious, followed by equally good mains. The food is best shared as you will want to try everything!

One of the best restaurants in Adelaide. I have just returned from living in Hong Kong for 4 years where I was able to dine at some of the finest resturants and eat some amazing Asian food. I have struggled to find a good Chinese restaurant since returning, that is until I hit the jackpot at Concubine's last weekend.<br/>We tried to book but were told that they were booked out but tried our luck anyway and it turned out that they had a table that was available for 75 mins. The decor and ambience was lovely and I must say the service was some of the best I have had. Smiley, friendly, efficient and knowledgable wait staff. We ordered the spring rolls, not my usual choice but my dining partner was a little fussy and they were delicious. We then had the Kung Pow chicken and the broad bean and beancurd dish and a pad thai. The serves were enormous and we had far too much food for 2 people. The broad bean dish was just fantastic. They were able to tailor the "chilli" level to our liking which was great. They were more than happy to split the leftovers evenly in to two seperate takeaway containers for my friend and I to take home. All this in 75 mins and we did not feel rushed at all. The experience was topped off by them giving us 2 vouchers for a free main so that we could come back and dine at another time. I will definitely be back and will recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a good night out!

Late dinner Sunday night and It was pretty full... But the terrific manager 'Jerry' organised me a nice quiet table in the corner. Food was terrific as always, and came in a respectable timeframe... Not too rushed or too slow. Was disappointed that my beef curry wasnt presented how it had been in the past but that's not going to stop me from coming back !! Wine selection had a fair few I hadn't heard of but seemed to be pretty decent pricing. Was impressed with the staff and their smiling, caring nature.

Absolutely perfect!. One of the best Chinese experiences in Adelaide, seriously. Everything was perfect. The staff were extremely professional, accommodating without being obtrusive. The food was mouthwatering - everything from the Peking duck wraps to the Chicken with mushrooms & bok choy to the fried banana dessert - all amazing. Ambience inside the restaurant was lovely too - perfect lighting, beautiful decor. <br/>A huge thank you to all the staff who made our dining experience utterly exemplary. We'll definitely be back to try more of the fabulous menu! Thanks again!

Awesome service with food like no other. Very reasonably priced, and a good location. Not too keen on the two seatings - we were booked in at 6pm and were told we had to be out by 815 As there was a group of us the food and wines were flowing, we ean out if time for dessert.

Great dining experience. Dined with a small group and found the venue relaxed, staff were attentive and suggested some food for our group which was just amazing! Now just waiting for an excuse to return for another great dining experience

Very very good. Went here for a work function and had the Lotus Banquet. Not only was the service really good, the food was spectacular! Well worth a visit.

Killer or Filler. Concubine is a great little restaurant much like its partner eateries, Osteria, Singapore House, British India etc. I find all of these places to be so well decorated, nothing else like them in SA, the food can be hit and miss at these places though, OSteria being the best of the bunch, Concubine second. I DO like the prawn dumplings alot and the Crispy egg main is beautiful, but alot of the dishes are bland, and the friend rice, is terrible. Inb saying that, we still go here, as we love the dishes mentioned above, and always order them, they also have a lovely prawn curry, do check it out, but dont order badly!!

Best in town. This would easily be the best Asian inspired food in Adelaide. The food is elegant and fresh, the dishes very tasty.<br/><br/>The atmosphere is funky and relaxed, an amazing time whenever there!<br/><br/>Well worth it.
