Review Chianti - Adelaide

4chillies
Chianti is an Adelaide institution because it delivers great Italian food regularly, the staff are always amazing and the venue is really comfortable. They don't usually open on Sundays but they had a brunch day with $55 multi course brunch with the option of bottomless cocktails for 90 minutes. I opted for a couple of Bloody Mary's and they were delicious. The food was, as expected, delicious. Keep an eye out if they do it again.

Everything is perfect. The foods are absolutely delicious, the scallops deserve a chef kiss. Good environment, professional service and friendly staff! Amazing restaurant, definitely give it a go!

The best Italian restaurant in S.A. 100% in all areas. Brilliant menu with a variety of dishes. Loved the scallops and oysters entree. Adored the duck and broccoli and fish mains and choice of bubbly and wines were magnificent! Service was so friendly, knowledgable and helpful. High level of happy hospitable energy, and wonderful wait staff, managers and Chef! 10 out of 10 from Terri and Sue. Thanks Chianti folk for making our Adelaide trip so enjoyable!!!

Great food, lovely wines and good ambience. Pricey but you’d know that before you went in. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable, would go again.

Amazing! After calling around last minute (like usual) on mothers day and everyone saying not a chance, these guys said let us see if we can re arrange a couple of things. Since then the service was amazing and the crab spaghetti was the actual best I've ever had! Forgor the before picture but you get the point, Cheers

Had a work dinner here and while the food was excellent, the service was sensational. The most attentive perfect service we have ever experienced. Many people in the group of 14 were blown away by the level of detail the main waitress was able to remember. Highly recommend Chianti for anyone who wants a high quality dinner out.

Came here looking for Australia's best breakfast and we must admit the food was delicious. However, the service was well below par unfortunately.

Took my two daughters here for breakfast on Saturday morning. Wonderful, friendly personal service! Food was exceptional. I had the pumpkin waffles that were to die for! My girls had the big breakfast and the eggs benedict and thoroughly enjoyed it. Could not fault anything. Quality food and quality service. Value for money!

Dined at Chianti last night with family and the whole experience was amazing! The staff were warm and welcoming and the food was exceptional especially the Pesce Crudo,I will remember that dish forever. Beautiful restaurant indeed.

Divine! The service was exceptional; the food and wine, beautiful. Well worth it.

Called in for Saturday lunch without a booking and was promptly seated Staff were extremely attentive and chatty making us feel very welcomed Our food arrived quickly and our drink glasses were always refilled when needed I think they should have warned me though that their delicious squid ink risotto would leave me with a black tongue and lips ha ha Looking forward to returning soon

Amazing breakfast, staff and atmosphere. You can tell the staff love working there. Will definitely be back!!!

Very expensive, even only for the online reservation fee cost me $85. And the food is not good tasty, it really doesn’t worth it, will never go there again.

A beautifully upmarket and worthwhile restaurant experience. We went as a whole family and were treated with impeccable service along with hearty and tasty meals.
I'm Kind Of A Big Dill.....
A regular go to for a special occasion as a bit pricey, however is worth it. Love a good food journey! Havent been disappointed. Knowledgable staff.

I just think it’s all hyped. I was there trying out their pasta and swordfish and others it was just not that yummy at all. Portions vs prices were ridiculous, they said the swordfish wing would fill 4 to 6 people obviously if we didn’t order many more dishes it would not fill even for 3 pax.
Jamie Battigelli
Can not fault it. Great service, great atmosphere, great food. All you can ask for when dining out!

Not a fan! Went here for dinner for our Anniversary and it definitely was a disappointment. On arrival, we were told that our table wasn’t ready for our booked dinner so the waitress asked us if we would like to go have a drink next door while we wait.... um no, I would actually like to eat dinner which is why we booked at a certain time -.-. Finally we were called to our table after waiting outside in the cold (because there is no where suitable to wait inside without being in the way!) A waitress came over to tell us know about the chefs specials for the day and expected us to memorise them all. I would’ve thought for a restaurant that is considered upper class would at least provide the specials verbally and written. We ordered off the menu and during the meantime I could hear the couple next to me complaining about the portion size, saying that the serving size had decreased significantly since their previous dinner from last year.
We proceeded to order and my partner explicitly asked for his meal to be served without onion however when the meals arrived... onion was observed to be all throughout the steak! We advised our waitress that the meal had onion throughout despite and the waitress asked “Are you allergic to onion?” Does it matter really... when you pay $35-40 average for a main course, I would’ve thought you can request the food to be presented to your liking.. but I was mistaken at Chianti obviously so he had to pick out the onion. I’ve had far better service and food at lots of other restaurants in Adelaide and I wouldn’t waste my time entering this Restaurant again, especially if it is a special occasion, I would say it is definitely below average and a disappointment.

This restaurant was in our bucket list for a long time and trust me,it did not disappoint. The food is exquisite, the service is exceptional and the ambience cant be any perfect. We had a lot of courses as it was my husband's birthday dinner. But the food is down right commendable and it speaks for itself. I will definitely go back as I want to try their breakfast! Watch out for the tempura zucchini flowers!
Daniela Partington
My friends and I had the most amazing time here! The staff were wonderful and went above and beyond to make sure we all had a great experience. The food was also delicious, I can definitely recommend the pumpkin waffles!
Sarah Katherine
Came here for brunch a couple of weeks ago with friends and a regular, who led the way and assisted us with breakfast cocktail choices and the best menu items (ie basically everything). The coffee was strong and hot, a rarity for Adelaide, and I really enjoyed the Beets and Brussels. Something different from usual brunch fare. The French toast and pumpkins waffles seemed to go down very nicely too. Chianti is in a beautiful corner spot in a heritage building which has been furnished tastefully, and I couldn't imagine the friendly staff not pulling out all the stops to make a special event here absolutely amazing.
Gee
Second time here. Chianti is pure class. Had the taglioni con granchio again because I’ve been dreaming about it for the last 6 months. The mezzelune with spicy sausage and octopus was also perfection. Side salads and desserts also spot on. This place has given me two amazing eating experiences and I shall come here every time I visit Adelaide.

First time:
This place was top notch! Started with the zucchini flowers which were fried to perfection with soft fillings. For mains I had the tagliolini con granchio and it was one of the nicest pasta dishes I’ve ever had. The sugo was thick and creamy and not overly seafoodish. It was heavy and filling but I would eat this again in a second! For desert I had the tiramisu and it certainly didn’t disappoint. This place deserves 4.5 stars but thanks to Zomato’s helpful (?) improvements, there are no half star ratings anymore. Divine!

This Adelaide institution has been delivering classic Italian food for well over a decade; consistently welcoming however realistically the food doesn't deliver against the ever innovating market.

With an interesting & diverse, predominantly Italian wine list hand picked by Maria & Duncan, the food lacks lustre despite the Chefs intentions to bring this grand old dame into the present.
Unlike the name change from Chianti Classico to Chianti, the food remains unchanged. The food is well cooked & homely however lacks finesse unlike what the table cloths may suggest.
The fan favourites remain constant through the year, seasonal produce is highlighted through daily specials & seasonal menu additions.

We both had a three course dinner including a few sides to accompany our mains. Nothing too memorable except the beautiful wines suggested by the then Sommelier - Duncan.
We order the seafood misto which included more instruments than a surgeon's theatre. Fresh local ingredients ordinarily executed, however matched perfectly with the vino Etna.

Service is inconsistent & space cramped. The space could certainly do with a less ambitious table configuration and with more training on consistent knowledgeable service.

This restaurant has been known for exemplary service which has now faded... however still supported by its loyal old patrons.

After numerous visits over the years with simple yet unexciting food, its time to say goody to Chianti for a while.

I made reservations here for dinner as it was my husband and my birthday (we share the same date) Our reservation was made for 7:45pm but table was still occupied so we got sat down at a different table to wait. Staff were very friendly and attentive. As soon as other patrons left they got our table ready in a blink of an eye. Our waiter for the night (I can’t remember his name) was very helpful and was always making sure we were alright. The antipasto plate was delicious and mains were quite tasty - meat was melt in your mouth. The highlight for the night was the desert tasting platter, not only did it looked too pretty to eat but had lots of interesting flavours. Will definitely be back for another special occasion and we also want to come here to try the breakfast.

After hearing many good things, I was very excited to try Chianti. The food was great, however, service was absolutely terrible. Our table arrived and were promptly seated but waited at least 10 minutes before being greeted by anyone or given menus. After being given menus, we were not given any service for at least another 20 minutes, by which time we were honestly a bit frustrated. Our waitress was honestly awful, did not seem to know the menu or the specials, and was very impersonable, fake and rude.

After our orders were taken, the food actually did not take very long to come out, and it was really very good. We thought Chianti had redeemed themselves but then there was more. My girlfriend went to the bathroom and as they were clearing the plates, they spilled food all over her chair and jacket, and did not go to clean this up until I chased them up about it - after this, they just brought a small black napkin to place on the chair to be sat on and didn't even clean it or get a new chair, etc. After this, we ordered desert, and these took about 30 minutes to come out... a tiramisu that is taken out of a big pre-made bowl at the table and a cheese plate... No apologies for the wait whatsoever.

Although the food was excellent, we will not be going back to Chianti again. To be honest, it was a busy Saturday night, but having a good waiter that is attentive and has some common sense makes a huge difference. There are many better options in Adelaide such as Osteria Oggi that deliver a much better experience overall. Do not recommend.

Wonderful Monday evening at Chianti, group of 11 catered for with such consideration and care. The wait staff were amazing, I have food allergies and my every need was met. The zucchini flower was delicious, my steak perfect, crispy roast potatoes and delicious broccolini no garlic or onion. The piece de resistance was the pannacotta divine!

Came to Chianti recently again for breakfast at this iconic Italian restaurant. Service was exceptional and efficient, staff were lovely. The food is absolutely delicious and presented beautifully and very reasonably priced. Coffee is exceptional, a lovely experience. Dinner is also good here if you’re not a morning person. We will be back.

Total restaurant package. Classy set up, professional waiting staff, real food and extensive wine list. Does what a lot of restaurants try but get wrong.

Came for a Birthday Dinner and arrived on time for our reservation. The servers were very attentive and came by almost on routine to ensure we had everything we need. We were given time to decide and heard the specials for the day. We ordered after pondering for a long time.

We had our drinks arrive chilled and our food staggered out and everyone had a meal to eat.

We all enjoyed the complimentary bread and the soup. A pleasant surprise.

Our entrees didn't wow us or were memorable. If we were to come back we may skip out on the scallops.

For mains, we all ordered a variety, I myself had the rabbit and I really loved it. Portion size was a bit large, but proportional to the price we were paying.

It was my friends' favourite restaurant. I can't see myself visiting again but was a very pleasant experience.
Calvin Siew
The food was nice and great. I had a cooked rabbit stew for dinner. The wine selection/menu was great and the service is fantastic. Well located in the city and car parks are easy to find. The ambience does feel like a fine dine & booking is allowed.

Value 4.0
Food (presentation, taste & quality) 4.5
Service & cleanliness 4.5
Ambience 4.0

This place does have indoor & outdoor, family friendly including ♿ & 👶. Suitable for casual romantic dine out.
Took my brother here for his birthday on a Thursday night. Last time I’d visited was for my own birthday 13 years ago. Not much has changed and it is a good thing. My memory of my last visit was of a delicious, fresh meal, fantastic service and a great ambience.
This visit delivered much of the same. The service was welcoming, friendly but not annoying ( I hate waiters repeatedly interrupting and asking how my meal is). Our waiter was very knowledgeable with the menu and specials and as soon as I mentioned I had a food allergy he ensured this was passed on and catered for in all the dishes.
We waited a little while for the food but were given a free starter and delicious sourdough with olive oil and balsamic to enjoy, that we didn’t mind waiting.
I ordered the grilled octopus entree which I was told was small, however when it came out I found it more of a main dish size and absolutely delicious.
Octopus is hard to get right as it overcooks quickly but this one melted in the mouth. The fennel, rocket, dill and roasted leeks accompaniments were perfect.
My brother ordered the rabbit wrapped in prosciutto special and could not stop raving about it.
We ordered 2 salads to share, the green salad and the cabbage salad. Both were delicious but the depth of flavour in the cabbage one was incredible.
We were both suitably stuffed yet satisfied as the meals were light, healthy and fresh. We had no room for dessert but the choices were very appealing so we will make sure to leave some room next time.
The score would have been a perfect 5 if the meals had come out a little quicker and if my brother hadn’t noticed the faded, obviously very old uniforms the staff were wearing.
While Chianti is an institution for a reason and truly upholds the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” ethos, some things might just need upgrading ;)
I will definitely not wait 13 years before returning!
Michele
Breakfast was Ordinary if not a little old fashioned not worth the hype
The room was not crowded but The service was slow and we had to ask more than once for drinks we ordered
I jumped on Zomato to see what the top rating restaurants in Adelaide CBD were and Chianti was one of them. We had called to make a booking on a Saturday night for dinner and they were fully booked inside, we were offered a 6.30 seating outside which was heated and under cover. I was concerned it would of been cold as it was quite fresh however the covering and heating was perfect and I am so glad we decided to go. Service was initially very slow, for a restaurant like this I would expect far better. This soon improved and our waiter was very helpful and prompt. The food, oh my goodness!! We wanted to try the cervello d'agnello (pan fried lambs brains with anchovy butter and fried capers) and had not tried brains before we didn't know what to expect. They were cooked so nicely and the anchovy butter that they were cooked in, so good. They were creamy and melted in your mouth. For mains my partner and I both had tagliolini con granchio (pasta with blue swimmer crab, zucchini, cream and crab consomme jellies) Far out!! I'd go as far as one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. That crab in the sauce, omg... and the creamy sauce with the consomme.. AMAZING!! It is BYO here so we took a gorgeous wine with us, a bit steep on the corkage though - $25! Sorry no pics, I was a little embarrassed to get the phone out this time lol

I remember when I first came to Adelaide everyone was raving about Chianti... It was The Italian restaurant... Years have past and Adelaide is not lacking Italian food anymore but Chianti still remains a top favourite. Why ? Service and food .... Their service is top notch.. food standard is still one of the best ... Their crab pasta is sooo tasty ... Definitely my favourite... Their zucchini flowers-yum... Their desserts divine !

Have been here once before and loved it, but was so disappointed this time. Has definitely gone down hill. Waiter had poor attention to detail, forgetting food allergies I had and when something was unavailable he didn't ask us what we wanted instead, he just brought something out, wasn't at all what I felt like. They overcooked my beautiful tuna steak that I ordered. If you go there stick to the pasta or the slow cooked rabbit dish that's been on the menu for years. Really disappointed by poor customer service and food not up to scratch, not worth how much you pay for it. The wines are still good though. Won't be going back though, there are plenty of better places to go.
MrMena
Every dish was fabulous! The black squid pasta was a stand out dish, amazing taste and flavor. The service was outstanding, we were given a complimentary starter which we didn't expect :)

We had dinner here last night and unfortunately it fell flat. We'd booked a table for 8pm on Friday night and on arriving discovered that it hadn't been recorded. The place was very busy and fortunately there was a table available. After extended waits we had to place drinks orders twice as the first order went a missing and it was clear from this point that the staff were stressed and run off their feet. We had the zucchini flowers for entree which were great and for mains the duck gnocchi was also a winner. One of our party ordered the tagliatelle venison bolognese which had 'house made coffee pasta'. This dish should be removed from the menu because it simply does not work. It tasted like a bowl of coffee flavoured dirt. The dish was described to us as having a hint of coffee which was absolutely not the case. This dish is an example of creativity creating catastrophe. Caveat emptor.

I love coming to Chianti. Whether it's Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner, they nail it every time. Such friendly service and delicious food, you really can't go wrong. I continue to dine here regularly and have never been disappointed.
Jess
Amazing service, and although the food took a while to come out to the table, it was extremely delicious and well prepared. I had the Gnocchi Di Patate, vegetarian, and it tasted great. They also bring out some complementary bread with olive oil, and some leek and broccoli soup that was exquisite.
Lea Yu
Very nice service along with delicious food. The dessert called pannacotta is really great!!! The sauce served with the salad is absolutely recommended, along with the dessert called pannacotta ~ Definitely worth visiting! And hopefully to go there again!

I so wanted to give this place a 5, Jenna our hosted was so professional, elegant and prompt.
We started with some house made warm bread and olive oil a little guest canapés.
We had the zucchini flowers my goodness they were delectable. Sardines on a cream of (forgot what it was called) so fresh and perfectly cooked and an octopus, orange, radicchio and fennel salad.
This was all accompanied by a bottle of Rockford Basket Press.
Our mains were:
Perhaps the nicest dish of sheet pasta and mushroom with beef I e every seen, a hand made gnocchi dish with duck and perhaps a little too much pepper, however it was great nonetheless.
And my Spencer gulf prawn pasta that for me was very dry and (yep here we go with al dente'') "to the tooth" mine was too to the tooth and difficult to eat.
I wish I did order two plates of the pasta sheet dish because it was perfection.
Great desert, great service, awesome atmosphere....LOVED it.

Great service (with personality) & wonderful food. After our conference in SA we joined our partners for a private dinner upstairs. Front of house team were excellent and plates out the kitchen all delicious. Relaxed surrounding and definitely an Adelaide must have pitstop
Dawson Brister
Chianti is always fabulous. The service is 5 stars. The wine list is extensive. The daily specials are always so innovative and amazing. Every time we go it is a fantastic experience. The staff remember us and it is great for lunch, dinner and special occasions. Desert is also a must.
Manish Gupta
Full disclosure - this is from the perspective of veg/egg eaters only. Others in our group loved the place and even wanted to stay back for lunch! We were there for breakfast. The inside is very nice and snug/warm while they also offer al fresco seating like so most other in the Aussie land.

The menu is quite extensive but we started of with some nice breakfast bubbles and coffee. Not much options in veg though the egg options were good. We did some quite some time as others in the group had a lot of options.

Not a great place for veggies but very nice atmo otherwise.

Everything is great! The crab risotto was amazing!! The taste is full of crab taste but u can not see any crab in the dish!!! Unbelievable!!!! The seafood pasta was full of taste of sea!!! The pasta was finely cooked and the prawn was just lovely!
Whitney
This place is truly amazing. You have to book, we did and people were turned away for not booking. We had the antipasto platter to begin with stuffed zucchini flowers- wow what flavoursome dishes. Couldn't fault them. Then we had pasta and desert. It was all well balanced- enough food without going over the top. The service was top notch. Yes it is "expensive" however it is a fine dinning Italian. Will be coming back!
Food Lover
My $35 crab pasta had hardly any crab meat in it! Disappointed. Service was bad. Considering how much you pay for food we had to constantly wait for our glasses to be filled. They took 20 minutes just to cut the cake and cut us the smallest pieces and took the rest of the cake (we brought a birthday cake).
Foodgrubbie
This restaurant is probably one of the best Adelaide has to offer. Our waiter, Daniel was an absolute delight but each and every staff were lovely. The highlight would have to be their pastas. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. I would recommend the Taglioloni con Granchi and the gnocchi (Its different to the menu in the pictures but I imagine whichever pasta they have to offer is amazing anyway). You can actually order the pasta as an entree which I completely regretted because it was to die for. I'll admit that I'm not a gnocchi fan but this was "melt-in-the-mouth" spectacular. We also had the Girello Di Vitello (slow poached veal) and the Coniglio al Forno (slow cooked farmed rabbit). They were both delicious. One mistake we made was that we did not order a side with the rabbit (which the waiter did recommend). The dish on its own felt like it needed something to cut through the acidity but nonetheless, it was still tender and succulent. We also had the chocolate pudding which was pretty good. Overall I'm so glad we went to this place on the last night of our trip to Adelaide. 2 entrees, 2 mains, 2 drinks and a dessert was enough to make us comfortably full. The place was romantic, served delectable food and the people there were more than welcoming. This dining experience made our trip that much more memorable. It's quite pricy but in my opinion well worth it for once in a while occasions (or frequently if you have deep pockets 😉).

Best breakfast I have had, anywhere, ever. Literally. Amazing menu, service, setting... I can't rave about this place enough. Fancy setting, reasonable prices. Do yourself a favour and come here!

The go to Italian fine dining.
Have visited Chianti on many occasions, special occasions such as birthdays, Valentine's Day, anniversaries and the just because and it has never disappointed me.
Food is always fantastic. They have offal that make it taste delicious. The wine list is extensive with great selections from Italian inspired Australian wines to DOCG Italian Chianti (for its namesake).
Definitely a must go to if you live in Adelaide or even just visiting.
Andrew Brannon
When in Adelaide I always try and fit in a meal here.
Tonight delighted once again.
The service, the food and the ambiance is consistently rewarding.

Post day next day New Years Eve breakfast! Good choice!!

With a very last minute thought of where to take Interstate Foodie mate for breakfast, Chianti came to mind, so quickly rang and had 5 minutes to get there before the kitchen closed! Phew! Made it!

Service was lovely and the place was full, as usual!

Foodie 1, me, ordered pumpkin waffles with pancetta, eggs, crispy sage, maple syrup and a side of kale, well, I had to have something green after an awesome NYE party 2 days earlier! F2 had crepes. F3 had Puttanesca eggs! We all loved our meals. I was quite impressed with the waffles on my dish, as they were light and really crispy. Coffee was good.

The only very small critique I have, is that we had quite a wait before our meals arrived, it was worth it, be prepared to be patient and maybe have a breakfast cocktail to kick off!

Would definitely be returning. Thanks team!

What an incredible restaurant! Dined here for my mums birthday lunch and the food was outstanding and the service impeccable with a personalised friendliness you don't just find anywhere! When I return to Adelaide I will definitely be back! As good as 1 hatted restaurants in Melbourne :)

Best breakfast I've experienced since my lovely morning in Tasmania. The affogato I had was quite different from what I usually have and I was glad that I did. We had the Big Breakfast and chef's special which was 2 lovely blueberry pancakes. I'll let the pictures explain themselves. The service was top notch, absolutely nothing to complain. The only thing you should keep in mind is that you should book a reservation beforehand as we were only so lucky we got a table outside.
Mouse Croghan
I have been coming here for 14 years and I love it. I don't honestly think I have ever had a bad meal, dish or experience.

On a mission to create a collection of breakfast spots I had to see what Chianti delivers for breakfast.

I had the Gatto di Patate a Sweet potato cake, poached eggs, kale sautéed with chilli, sweet potato crisps, rocket & dill salad. And it was 5/5. Delicious, fresh, innovative and tasty oh and very pretty!

My friends had the the eggs benedict - very traditional and no complaints and poached eggs on sourdough with crispy pancetta.

Lovely breakfast grazie Maria.
Eat Like Ushi
The night was for celebrating and so an appropriate venue had to be selected. Surprisingly in researching, there were only a few places that seemed to interest me for the occasion. They were Jolley's Boathouse, Concubine and Chianti (and I had already chosen Delicatessen and Press for the previous nights more casual meals). In the end Chianti won due to an exciting take on classic Italian and the locavore mentality. Jolley's had higher ratings but the menu didn't excite and Concubine is unlikely to be much better than all the equivalent Melbourne versions.

Love this place, the food never disappoints and the staff are all exceptional. Great atmosphere and the desserts are just as good. I am told breakfast is great here too and I can't wait to try it!!!

What a wonderful spot!
Us girls came here last week, just for a quick bite before movies.
We were pleasantly surprised!

We sat by the window, perfect for a warmer evening.
The staff were welcoming, chatty and enthusiastic.
The service was quick.

Above all, our meals were super tasty!
Recommend highly and can't wait to return!

I didn't think Chianti did takeaway for breakfast, but I decided to try my luck anyway. My gut feeling was right, but the enthusiastic staff member was happy to put together their bircher muesli for me to takeaway as it was a portable dish. The service here is fantastic. The staff who served me was extremely friendly and offered me a seat and water while I waited. The restaurant appears to have a lot of regulars as the waitresses seemed to know all the people dining in.

The bircher muesli itself was decent. I loved how it wasn't overly sweet, and had a generous amount of fresh fruit. My only gripe is the gooey sticky texture, perhaps a result of an oddly high yoghurt to muesli ratio. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but rather unexpected.

I'm looking forward to returning to dine in.
The Munchkin
Dinner here is exceptionally good. The menu had interesting flavour combinations. Good and attentive service from staff. Complimentary starter to start the meal followed by bread and olive oil. Would be better if the bread was heated up prior though. I absolutely love the pasta here . Handmade and cooked just right. Sauce was perfect. Cant wait to try more of their pasta dishes . We had the fazzoletti-smoked eel, black truffle and walnuts . We also ordered the bowl with lots of seafood in it which is very fresh and well made. The great side though was the crispy potatoes. Have to order this! Roasted first and lightly fried with rosemary and garlic.
JayTea & The Co-Pilot
So a couple of months back The Co-Pilot took me to my favourite breakfast spot in the whole of Adelaide – Chianti. The breakfast here has always hit the spot with consistency and the service couldn’t be more attentive and friendly. The space has a touch of class that makes it feel like it’s fine dining yet has such a relaxed casual feel to it.
Samantha
Dinner was fantastic!! We had some lovely zucchini flowers to start which had great flavours and were perfectly cooked. Pasta was incredible, perfect flavour combinations. The service was tops
Frannyl
Great breakfast x 3. Service, coffee and food all great. We all had something different and everybody was happy. Can't beat that!!
Will go back.
David Bailey
Breakfasted with ex-work colleagues twice now. Quite a formal feel for breakfast, with white tablecloths, and attention to detail with service. The offer of water is welcomed as I've cycled and after a little, the flat white coffee was warm and tasty. I enjoyed poached eggs with hollandaise accompanied by a generous serving of moist, tender and aromatic mushrooms. At around $22, I felt it was reasonable value with the service, and I felt full all day. Second time had grillled haloumi with vegetables which still has me puzzled as to how tasty it was! Not an affordable breakfast but certainly special and memorable
Emma Henderson
Absolutely delicious and impeccable service. Complimentary entree and warm bread to say "welcome", zucchini flowers and roast potatoes were also amazing. Granchio pasta and the lamb were exquisite, there was also an extensive wine menu. Will definitely be back.
Lizzie Newland
An absolute institution for weekend breakfast Chianti delivers the best service you'll see around the city. Perfectly cooked everything, flavours balanced to a tee and orange juice squeezed on demand. Fab. Haven't been here for dinner in years but I recall similar excellence.
HoneyBintheCity
Came here last nite after not having been here for a very long time and glad to say the food was still as Lovely as I remembered. Had a tasty Antipasto platter, tried the pumpkin gnocchi and the mains of lamb, beef fillet & snapper were all beautifully presented & flavoursome dishes. The complimentary starter & palate cleanser is also a lovely additional touch to the fine dining experience.
It's a bit pricey, but for the service, food and atmosphere, it's so worth it.
The only thing is it's quite staggered between ordering drinks and food that the nite was drawn out over 3 hours, but it's ok because we had good company and good wine! 👌😀

I came here for my birthday dinner last week. Made a booking three days prior as I've heard it can be quite booked out, and they made sure to ring me every day to make sure the booking was still valid, which was nice. Upon arrival, we were ushered in by the nicest girl who had an amazing and bubbly personality to match.

We were served some lovely homemade sourdough and a zucchini canapé while waiting for our food. Both were delicious. For entree we got the Frutti di Mare in Brodo (that broth is just yum), the polenta (holy moley, the sides of the polenta are just charred to perfection and the whole thing is just beautifully salted) and the parpadelle pasta which was a special of the day. All of them were gorgeous.

Granted, it was a good 20-25 mins before the mains come but it wasn't an uncomfortably long wait. We got the slow cooked rabbit which wasn't too bad. For a slow cooked meat it was still probably a bit tough. We also the blue swimmers crab pasta which was yum as well.

For dessert we got the sweet ginger ice cream slice with brandy snaps. It was heaven on a dish. I had my apprehensions about the ginger component but it went beautifully with the rest of it. The waitress also gave us some complimentary chocolate balls on a dish that said 'happy birthday' in Italian. That absolutely made my night. We also got some raspberry sorbet palette cleansers before dessert which in itself was a delight.

Overall, it was a classy, classy joint. A bit on the expensive side, but so worth it for a special occasion.

I think it is fair to say that Chianti's reputation speaks for itself. We had our anniversary dinner here and both entree and mains were delicious. I had the gnocchi entree and my wife had the zucchini flowers - neither dish disappointed. The mains were of a similar quality... My t bone was delicious. My only criticism of the evening was that the dessert menu was lacking any excitement. I enjoy a sweet ending to my meals and I unfortunately was left feeling a little depressed with the options I had before me. My wife was of the same mindset, so we actually went and had dessert elsewhere.
Food Is Loved
Chianti's is an institution in Adelaide and having returned for a meal Saturday night I was quickly reminder why. The service is faultless, the atmosphere is warm & welcoming & the food is spectacular.
We enjoyed an antipasto plate to share between four, which was the perfect way to start our meal. For main my pappardelle with duck was heavenly, as was my passionfruit curd tart for dessert. Chianti's is somewhere you will want to return time and time again.

An expensive meal is not necessarily a good meal. The food here is pleasant but not worth the price tag or the hype.

Italian food is executed much better at many other places, and is available for fewer dollars.

Last week I Was in Adelaide for business and hosted a client for lunch. The service was exceptional and the food fantastic. I was very impressed
Martin Knight
The staff were no doubt glowing in the presence of the recent award given to the Chianti. However they were strangely superior and really not interested in engaging with the customer. The food was poor. The "Rough Spaghetti" was indeed just that. It was a stew with chunks of tasteless beef in some uninteresting pasta. The wine list is extensive but there is no sommelier with whom to chat. So the view of the four of us was that it was overpriced, poorly staffed and distinctly poor cuisine. I do not know why it received any award.
I would certainly NOT return.
This is an entirely independent report.

I can't lie, this was one of the biggest let downs on Hutt street. For its reputation it really didn't live up to it.

There was nothing special about this place at all, food was eh, service was nothing special. I wouldn't really come here again, if you're getting steak go across the road.

Come if you must. But don't expect much.

Every time I wanted to book at Chianti, I was always told it was fully booked. That's my fault for booking so late but this time I managed to book a table outdoors for two. I didn't mind because it wasn't too cold that night. If it was a cold night, they'd be prepared with blankets, heaters, and screens to protect diners from wind.

Service was great! They were patient and thorough with explaining the menu/dishes/specials. My partner and I both ordered pasta dishes. It was a bit pricey for the amount we received but the quality of the dishes were amazing! There was a good balance of pasta and solid ingredients. Atmosphere was good to rewind and have a relaxing night!

We came here for Father's Day and although it was very busy the service was good.

My husband and I started with the antipasto which was both different and tasted great. Father-in-law had the special rabbit risotto as his entree which he enjoyed.

For the main I found that the crab pasta was a bit bland for my taste although it did taste fresh. My husband found his veal a bit too chewy. Father-in-law enjoyed his snapper in a bag which he said was very moist.

We will probably be back again to try other dishes. The goat, goose and rabbit all seem interesting.

There are few restaurants in Adelaide that have the accolades that Chianti does. In the last 30 years, Chianti has won numerous awards, and deserves them all. We're often asked where to go for breakfast and dinner, and Chianti resides as one of the highest recommendations on both those lists. This review will focus on what I (Nathan) believe is the best breakfast you'll get in Adelaide - the Uova al Forno - eggs in tomato sugo.

Maria as always is very welcoming but sadly the food was disappointing My prawn white bean and fennel dish was not nice at all The white beans were undercooked and the base flavourless Husband had pasta marinara and was also disappointed

Love this high end restaurant at hutt st. Located at City. Very friendly, helpful and professional staffs. Spacious enough even when I dine in with my friend's baby - enough space given for high chair and also to place the pram. Food wise is excellent. We have an entree FOC absolutely delicious crispy thin crackers with goat cheese and caramelised onion. The bread is fresh with olive oil and balsamic vinegar perhaps would be nicer if it is slightly warmer. The pan seared tuna salad was absolutely gorgeous - thick cut of tuna perfectly seared and well seasoned. Salads that was served compliments the tuna but did not overpower it. The tuna is the star of the dish. Nice wine selection as well. The black sausage pasta was good too. The Sausages has a real nice smoke flavour. Out of two dishes the tuna is the hero for the day. Always recommend and definitely be back again.

Beautiful ambience and wonderful staff!
We were there on a busy Tuesday night, and we were attended to quite promptly.
I loved how the staff were very attentive to our needs; ie water refills and as soon as we finished our appetizers, they soon brought out the mains :) all in all, a good dining experience.

Fabulous spot for lunch with family, wonderful service even though we had a 4 month old baby who fortunately behaved and when he was restless we took him outside. Half bottles of good champagne were very welcome due to driving limits and baby feeding. Delicious and slightly unusual dishes. My children welcomed their first goose and goat experience. The pasta was wonderful.
Sandeep
Nice atmosphere, warm and inviting.
The food is delicious and the staff are friendly.
We tried the macaroni (special for the night) and the rabbit. Both were delicious.
Definitely worth a visit.

Fancy Italian restaurant, nice waitress, but the food is soso and a bit overpriced. Compared with other Italian food in Adelaide, this one can't be in the top class I think

My wife a loving got to Chianti for breakfast and dinner. We pop in every couple of months and we have always been warmly welcomed and the food has been amazing.

This place used to be Chianti Classico. Now it's less classic. Just "Chianti". Probably got tired of all the "classic" gags.

I'm seated outside, with the rabble, and other people who didn't book.

Wow, what a wonderful meal! I had snapper with green olives, and it was beautifully cooked and just a wonderful combination of textures & flavours. Wine was great, service fantastic! Little tastes of steak tartare for free! A great night for an occasional interstate visitor, I'll defo be back next trip!
Martyn
Disappointing. Staff loudly bellowing at each other over dinners is not my style of service.

And I can't believe they don't do a chai latte.

An excellent lunch featuring some of the best pasta I have ever had in the form of the tagliolini with a rich sugo featuring many, many chucks of spanner crab meat. The offer of a dessert tasting menu when we could not decide on our dessert options was a fantastic service touch. The Bad None. The Meal House bread with olives and olive oil Arancini alla Boscaiola Lightly fried risotto croquettes flavoured with wild mushrooms, black truffle and parmesen Fiori di Zucchine Lightly fried zucchini flowers filled with ricotta cheese and pine nuts, served with tomato relish Tagliolini con Granchio Fine pasta ribbons with a rich sugo of Queensland spanner crab meat, tomatoes and basil. Pappardelle con Anitra Handmade broad pasta ribbons with roasted duck meat, red capsicums, spinach, pinenuts and olive oil. Dessert tasting platter semifreddo, Torta di cioccolate, zabaglione, panna cotta amongst others

Used to be good but now is ordinary and incredibly overpriced

Lovely food - maybe great wines but so rushed who knows!
No sommelier to assist with the Italian wines ..
Overpriced and rushed - not good enough at all - disappointed !

Think Adelaide dining and you often think of Hutt St. It’s been the home of some fine dining establishments going back decades. The scene is still very much alive! Chianti Classico is an elegant and imaginative restaurant on Hutt St that pleases those looking for an authentic Italian experience. The staff are upbeat and the cuisine is imaginative. Come here on a Saturday morning and it will be packed with a who is who of Adelaide. (Image credit above Chianti Classico Facebook). We visited this fine dining establishment before a big sporting contest in the city of churches. Without a booking it was a coup to get a table. Both inviting outside on the pavement adjoining Hutt Street (under the verandah), or inside with the trendy Eastern suburbs crowd (maybe I’m guessing). The owners Frank and Maria Favaro were part of the original Chianti in Light Square to which I made many a visit as a banker. It was always charming, great cuisine and trademark service. A great philosophy over 25 years has been to welcome people as if they were coming into your own home. Chianti Classico is one of Australia’s best breakfast destinations. In fact they won an award for such – Australia’s best breakfast for 3 years (as well as many other awards). So we were keen for a killer breakfast. And not disappointed. The Pork sausages were excellent with polenta, eggs and Italian tomato sauce. Not stodgy sausages but impressively zesty. Pork sausages with sublime sauce and eggs The Open frittata was also a winner and was such a generous portion. Open frittata Check out the Chianti Classico Selection Plate with blueberry waffles, Chianti Classico granola, and eggs benedict. Or the Traditional breakfast with Barossa Valley bacon. Or the Harris smokehouse salmon with poached eggs, hash brown, baby spinach and a cracking hollandaise.

Top notch food and service. A breakfast favourite for many years. The tasting plate is amazing. Consistently wonderful food and impeccable service. Highly recommend.

I always wonder why Christmas and other celebrations are an excuse for bad service. We had breakfast here this morning, the food came rapidly however our drinks took almost an hour. A number of things were not quite right eg wrong juices etc. Clearly there was inadequate staff, what most disappointed me was that the owner/ front of house buzzed around and did not once acknowledge the delays. For me good food is not enough at this price!

Simply Wonderful. Decided on Chianti to celebrate my son's birthday who was visiting from Melbourne with his wife. The restaurant has a great atmosphere about it, the friendly staff were excellent and couldn't do enough to ensure that our dining experience would be one to enjoy and remember for all the right reasons.
Couldn't fault the food with the portions being very generous. All in all a wonderful night and we can't wait to make a return visit.

NEVER AGAIN!. Last Sunday we took our son to dinner at Chianti for a special birthday dinner.
Chianti has always been my absolute favourite restaurant in Adelaide and we have never been concerned about the cost because it was always a dining experience. Because we have been to this establishment many times before we are well aware of the serving sizes which can always be described as generous.
We all ordered pasta for main meals. When the meal came out the serving can only be described as inadequate.
It was an entree size at best! The meals were also not up to the usual standard. The desserts were average!
What a shame this institution has changed so dramatically! We were charged $400 for this disappointment. When we complained we were offered a $50 voucher. What an insult! Chianti stop cost cutting - save your reputation!

Rabbit. Tender & tasty

Start with the Antipasti platter. Well done! Staff were amazing! Food was Amazing- we had the rabbit and the deer. Great venue. Very pleased!

Below average food, very expensive. We had the chicken liver pasta which didn't even taste like chicken liver and a chicken dish that tasted like boiled chicken along with a wine and veggies. The price was about $115 or double what it should be anywhere else. Perhaps we didn't order the right thing, but an expensive restaurant like this everything should be excellent or not on the menu. The waitress was nice, but I can't understand why anyone would go there, below average food quality, very expensive.

A truly excellent anniversary dinner. Went last night with my wife to celebrate our anniversary. We booked late as always so we could only get an outside seat which was a bit chilly round the ankles until we pulled down the screens right to the floor. Overall eating experience was excellent, top quality service from our waiter. Excellent wines which accompanied our food very well. We had an in season (only just) truffle risotto for starters which was a real treat which wonderful subtle flavours. Would have been nicer to have had a tad more of the risotto but can't fault the dish.

I had prawn gargenilli pasta dish and I have to say it ranked as one of the best pasta dishes I've had. I know seafood and the prawns were cooked to perfection and the subtle fresh flavours of the pasta dressing were exquisite. My wife had the coorong mulloway as the pesce del journo with pancetta which was cooked to perfection. Not 100% sold on the brussels sprouts (personally I've avoided them like the plague since I was a child) but again faultless presentation.

Overall an excellent choice for a special treat as a dinner venue. Not the cheapest dining in Adelaide but an all round quality dining experience.

Great atmosphere, good service, but unfortunately my fish was over cooked.

Chianti has been my favourite restaurant for a while now until last night. I don't know what happened but the service was appalling. We had to ask for menus after waiting more than 10 mins after our arrival. We finally ordered. The food was placed in front of us then the waitress disappeared. We waited 5 mins to grab someone's attention to ask for cracked pepper. We ate our meals which were delicious. We had ordered a side salad but didn't any side plates to eat it on so once again had to find a waitress to bring us plates. We couldn't eat the salad on our mains plates as we had ordered pasta and the sauce was on the bottom of the plates and I don't like mixing salad with pasta sauce for obvious reasons. We ordered dessert and that was lovely. We didn't have to wait for them long. When it came time to grab the bill it took us about 20 mins to get it. We did not have a specified attendant for our table and we were dealing with any staff that we could grab the attention of to help us with our needs. The most surprising part was that we had to share menus as the waitress didn't have spares apparently. I do hope this terrible service is a one - off as I usually hold Chianti with the highest and utmost respect in the hospitality industry. Sad night!

Great food - modern Italian well constructed with beautiful flavours
A must visit.

My partner and I visited for a Sunday lunch and were beyond impressed. The restaurant itself is very nice looking, it has a lot of character. It was busy, but service was extremely fast. The service was great. The waitresses were attentive, polite and friendly. The menu was extensive with lots to choose from and everything we ordered was delicious. My steak was cooked absolutely perfectly, just melting in the mouth. This was definitely one of the better Italian restaurants I've been to in Adelaide; I felt like we actually got what we paid for, in comparison to some other expensive Italian restaurants I've visited where the food was really average and overpriced. We can't wait to visit here again.

So disappointed... After all the rave reviews, I booked a table for my partners Birthday dinner and we were expecting big things! The ambiance was lovely and the service was fantastic. However we paid $180 for dinner and that was sharing an entree and dessert and included a couple of drinks each. The entree of zucchini flower was all batter and not much else. For main we ordered the veal cutlet which was ok and a beef fillet which was 3 small slices of meat and not great. The highlight was the pannacotta and berry dessert. I have to say that for half the price I have had much better dinners. We dine out regularly and don't mind paying good money for great food but I have to say it was such a disappointment.
