My partner brought me here for an engagement/birthday lunch, the waitress Carly who greeted us was phenomenal, so welcoming and warm. She couldn’t of looked after us better. Then there was the food, it was out of this world. Couldn’t recommend it more!
Simply the best place in Adelaide, the food was amazing and honest and the service some of the best I have ever experienced . Welldone team flamingo *****
A top spot. We were a group of 10 for my husband’s birthday last Saturday night. We chose the banquet option and there was so much beautiful food! I wish I could remember the name of the delightful young woman who looked after our table. Energetic, enthusiastic, nothing too much trouble. A delight. I thoroughly recommend RRF for a fun night out.
Amazing hidden gem, one of Adelaide’s best kept secrets. The food was simply outstanding and service was second to none.. thank you for a wonderful evening
Absolutely beautiful food - best pasta dish I’ve ever had! Will definitely be back
We went here on Thursday and it was the most delicious food I have eaten in a really long time, and the staff were so accommodating and lovely, can't wait to go back! Thank you so much
We loved everything about this place. Amazing food, great atmosphere, excellent and attentive service. We had the banquet and we couldn't fault it. Heaps to eat and super flavoursome!
Loved the food and service.. authentic Italian food at its finest!!!! Rustic and delicious!!!
A wonderful dining experience..
From the moment you enter this gorgeous place you will feel so welcome. .not to mention the yummy food on the menu and the great service.
A wonderful restaurant
The 45 min wait for our table was worth it couldn’t fault the meal the beef cheek was amazzzzzing
Really great place We were visiting from Melbourne and walked past smelt the food and decided to stop I'm so glad we did. Loved it a definite recommendation
I had wanted to go to Ruby Red Flamingo for the longest time and it did not disappoint. We went for a family birthday a few weeks ago and were well looked after. The food was delicious, the pastas are cooked to perfection and I absolutely loved the quirky vibes. I cannot wait to go back. #rubyredflamingo
10/10 service and food was great! My partner and I did not make a reservation (last minute change of restaurant) and was lucky enough to score a table! They were very accommodating with finding a table that was comfortable enough to fit a pram.
Friday nights call for a fun atmosphere to get the weekend cranking! Met one of my oldest and favourite workmates here for drinks and dinner and we had a great time. It was a very chilly night so we enjoyed huddling inside around a carefully placed table (to maximise diner numbers, this place is BUSY) in what would have been the lounge room of an old North Adelaide house. Don’t get me wrong though, the owners have done a wonderful job with the property both inside and out. You feel as if you’re at a dinner party without anyone having to cook. The space is quirky and playful, as well as comfortable. With relaxed, friendly service, wine aplenty, amazingly light potato gnocchi and a scrumptious dessert list, we were two happy gals. 5/5.
Our regular dinner spot. Always consistent, always yummy. They’re busy for a reason. Definitely recommended. All the pasta dishes are great especially the ones with the in-house made pasta.
Been here a few times and they always hit the spot! Melt in your mouth gnocchi and delicious carpaccio’s, especially the octopus. Fave would be the big tube pasta with prawn & pancetta. Nice Italian wine menu too
My go to place for Italian food and dinner with friends. Good vegetarian options. My favourite dishes are the cannelloni Verde and the eggplant macaroni. The wait time for a table is usually long (about 45 mins on busy weekends) but once seated, the food comes quickly. Their espresso Martinis are really good.
Lovely, lively atmosphere with friendly welcoming service and great food. Do recommend the banquet (you can choose your dishes or be surprised) - but be warned; it’s probably more food than you can eat. We had a great time and will definitely be back!
Try the banquet! That's all I can say. Great service, excellent pasta, and delicious wine. I could not have asked for a better evening amongst.
Booked a table for 10 on a Friday night for a family celebration and although some of us arrived early, we were met at the front of house warmly by the staff and promptly seated. We ordered a "modified" banquet and all of the food was excellent, tasty and generous portions. The service was outstanding and I would recommend RRF to all.
Great setting in an old terrace home almost like nonna`s place with a lively atmosphere.
Arrive early or you could be disappointed as they do not take bookings.
We arrived just after 5.30 and the place filled up quickly.
Tried the tonnato, Scallopina, Gnudi and spaghetti with blue swimmer crab.
All very tasty and nicely presented (perhaps a bit under seasoned but it is easy to be picky right?)
Great service and very efficient service staff.
Overall a very pleasant night.
Will return and recommend.
We loved everything about this place. We were quite a large group and the drinks and food flowed effortlessly throughout the evening. The food was amazing, excellent and attentive service by our waitress. We had the banquet and every dish was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. Authentic Italian food.
Love the pizza. Staff was knowledgeable about the pizza. Pity you can’t book with small group but the food is absolutely amazing you have to check it out
Food was delicious. Don't let the serving size of the gnocchi fool you, you will leave full. There was a mix up with our order however our lovely waiter was on it and offered free dessert for the mishap. Pricing is a little high but ok for a treat every so often. The bar upstairs in Tiny and you may have to fight your way through to self-serve water station.
We were lucky to score a table as we arrived at 630pm, as the place filled up quickly after that. Everything on the menu sounded so tempting so we went for the feed me option. 3 entrees and 3 mains later, we were ready to roll out the door. We really couldn’t fault anything! The seafood were super fresh and instead of relying on too much seasoning or sauces, the natural flavours of the seafood were allowed to shine. The pasta, meat, roasted potatoes and even the simple spinach cooked in butter were executed wonderfully, and so moreish. Extremely pleasant and warm hospitality by all staffs throughout the night rounded up our very enjoyable dinner. It was indeed just like getting served home-cooked meal, with the homely and charming decor to match the mood.
We had the banquet and ordered a selection of entrees and mains - the pasta was very nice and we enjoyed all the other dishes. Nice atmosphere and definitely a place to have a meal with a group of friends.
Have eaten here on many occasions and have never been disappointed. It's just like eating the most delicious Italian meal at Nonna's house- complete with old school mis-matching crockery. The staff are friendly and happy to help out when you can't decide what to order because it all sounds fantastic.
One of the best Italian restaurants in Adelaide, hands down! Delicious pasta ... The eggplant pasta is to die for... I've never tasted such yummy arancini before and boy oh boy the tiramisu definitely had a bit of a kick ..we had great waiting staffs as well. All in all such a wonderful experience .. only minor downside is you can't book a table but I'd happily wait 30 mins for a table with food this good
My first restaurant to get a full five stars. The food was amazing!! Our red wine infused steak was tender and full of flavour and the ravioli was fresh and light. The staff were friendly and had a great knowledge of menu.
Food was fantastic the service excellent definitely would return. Was very busy hand drinks upstairs with wife then come and grab you to eat.
Cosy venue offering hearty Italian cuisine and attentive service. I dined here recently with a friend, and was surprised to see the interior fill up so quickly on a weeknight (always a positive sign). It was difficult to choose from their interesting and unique menu, but I finally picked a gnocchi dish from the specials board. The texture of my gnocchi was spot on, however the cheese sauce a little too rich for my liking. I am keen to return on a Summer night to sit in the nice outdoor area, and maybe try a dessert.
If you haven't been to Ruby red you really are missing out on some of the best food in town. We have been a few times for group bookings and you really can't go wrong. There is so much food for the price you pay and you will not go home hungry. The ragu is the best in town and their pasta dishes are to die for. Service can be a bit lacking at times but that's because they're so busy that they can't keep up with all the orders coming through. Walk in only if you're less than a group of 10, but give them a go if you're nearby and looking for a good feed. BYO available at $20 a bottle.
Just the sort of casual restaurant with great food, fabulous vibe, nice decor and good service that makes you want to keep coming back. Definitely in our top 10 restaurants in Adelaide.
Went on a Wednesday night thinking it wouldn't be busy but the place was full! Service was prompt, helpful and friendly. Loved the look of the restaurant and we sat outside on a cold night which wasn't a problem as it was well heated.
You can choose what size you want for your main, either small or large which we loved. Some of us chose small serving sizes which we found to be perfect. It gave us space to fit in an entreè to share between the table and a dessert each. We left feeling full and satisfied and still being able to breathe! For the small mains we had the scallopini, lamb rack and canelloni veal, all delish and perfcet size for 1 persons main meal (if eating other dishes). Other dishes around the table were beef cheeks, salmon steak and antipasto platter. Everyone loved their dishes. All perfectly cooked and kept simple but tasty. Will be coming back to try the pasta!
Love the atmosphere, love the olives offered at the bar while waiting for a table and absolutely loved the food and great drink selection. Every time I've been i never feel rushed and really get to take my time to enjoy my meal. Only wish we could book a table! 😊
My favourite place for dinner in Adelaide. Always great quality food and drinks, never fails. And even having to wait for a table is great because we get to hang out in the upstairs bar.
Great Adelaide weather, great outdoor venue, great food. The makings for an excellent gentlemen's lunch. There were five of us to celebrate a mate's birthday. The staff were friendly & efficient. We took our own wine (reasonable corkage charges) though as I recall they do have a a good wine list. The food is meant to be shared & this worked quite well between the five of us. The favourite was the polenta & spinach dish. The waiter was attentive & supplied us with excellent service. I am sure we will be going back soon.
If you want good pasta Ruby Red Flamingo will deliver the ultimate satisfaction every time. There’s often a wait so I’d pick weekdays and turn up early, like 6pm. Despite having ample seating, and being open for this long they still fill their seats all the time. That speaks volumes about how good it is and how much people love the dining experience. The menu is chalkboards on the wall around you while the specials are brought to you on another chalk board. Trust me when I say you will have trouble deciding.
Ruby Red Flamingo has been on the wish list for a few years but because being open only four nights a week and not being able to book on a Saturday we never seemed to be able to get there. Well last night with Garnet's organising we got there just before six and got a table (by seven people were waiting for a table).
As other reviewers note the place is quirky, it is a melting pot of old kitchen and dining room chairs set around a variety of sized tables. The cutlery and crockery were a mismatched collection from the seventies (I remember using them). There are multiple dining areas, different rooms on the ground floor, a balcony area upstairs and an area under a marquee at the front of the building. The standard menu is on the walls of each room, ours being on odd shaped blackboards.
The staff were excellent, as it was our first time at RRF our waitress assisted us with the selection process and how that the menu is really set around the assumption that diners share. We decided on five dishes that would be brought out progressively.
The first dish was tagliatelle and it was sensational, easily the best dish I have had this year. The pasta itself was cooked to perfection, the lamb ragu with it was just so good. We followed by a good veal scaloppine with mushrooms which was a very delicate dish. Next came a schnitzel that came with a salad that took me back to my childhood, tomato and cucumber both of which had flavour and dressed simply but with such balance. The next dish was beef checks with peas, wow such flavour and the tenderness of the beef checks was melt in your mouth. Finally we had a roast chicken that was ok but after the previous items did not stack up (The others were happy with the chicken) in the flavour stacks and probably should have been served earlier. Note the tagliatelle and the beef checks were on the specials menu so not sure how long they will be on offer.
In summary I now understand why people line up to get a table at RRF, the food is great, the service is great and the quirkiness adds something to the dining experience. The prices are very reasonable particularly considering the size of the servings and the quality.
The restaurant is advertised as "bohemian Italian". Seriously, the food here is better than most food I've had in Italy.
The service is impeccable. Handsome Italian waiters who are passionate about their job, guide you through the menu and make helpful suggestions.
There are blackboard specials everywhere you turn. This is the type of restaurant you need to come back to time and again to try everything.
The prices are reasonable and the wine list is intriguing.
We had the arancini balls with calamari, agnolotti stuffed with curried beef and rabbit parpadelle which was so great is brought tears to my eyes.
When in Adelaide you must come here. No excuses.
10/5!
Hard to find in Adelaide an Italian restaurant that presents simple dishes but able to deliver great flavours.
Great place if you dine with friends or big table and share
One of Poppy's favourite Italian restaurants! Brilliant service, great atmosphere and magnificent food. We started with the Arancini balls which were delicious. Poppy then ordered the Egg Papardelle with rabbit ragu. Incredible. A friend of Poppy's ordered the spinach gnocchi with Gorgonzola and pine nuts which was out of this world. I'll be ordering that next time. I also love the plates, just like Nonna's! Can't wait to come back to this fantastic eatery. Great experience and terrific food. Definitely worth an eat 👍
Ruby Red Flamingo has been on my list for years. I think. I’m not sure how long it’s been open but it feels like it’s been beckoning to me for far too long. Now that we’ve been there, that silent subtle beckoning has turned into a full blown stalker-like yelling. I think about it all the time, and I’m telling you, it wants to me to go back. Actually, maybe I’m the one with the stalker vibes.
Everytime I come here seriously amazing. Sometime is the longest wait ever especially when you're hungry but it's well worth visiting the bar up stairs, amazing cocktails and wine. Always fun to go with a couple of friends. Eggplant pasta is my 1# go to, as well as the gorgonzola baked gnocchi and the amoretto sours are too die for
I order the Gnudi, she said it was a silent "G". I said "I know, I just came back from Italy". She didn't even ask how my trip was - "è stato acceso", "it was lit". Thanks for asking, not. The sparking rose is great ukno. Let me know though, who out toilet downstairs when rose upstairs? It don't make sense.
I returned after a fair period of time to see if RRF was as good as I remembered. It was. We had a drink in the bar while we were waiting and some grissini and olives. Mmmm - olives. Then our table was ready and we drooled our way through the menu and had some fairly serious negotiations about how much we could eat and what we could live without. We settled on the tonnato, breasola, saffron risotto with osso bucco and rabbit papardelle. Being a gnocchi fiend I did ask for the rabbit sauce to go on some gnocchi however, the kitchen was unable to accommodate this. Everything was generous and delicious. The mains especially - we savoured every mouthful of the risotto and rabbit. The staff were extremely friendly and professional and even though it was a crazy busy Saturday night we didn't have to wait long for anything.
Was a little skeptical of this place but tried it anyway. Went early on a Saturday night so did not have to wait for a table. We were ushered to an outside table but the heaters were on so it wasn't a problem. Menus on the wall which made it a little difficult when the table was around the corner of the main eating area, however technology came to the rescue and if you have a QR reader on your phone you can read the menu on your device, if not you're stuffed and need to get up to read the menu. All that said when it came to the food, I was pleasantly surprised. Tasted great with good sized serves, service was good too. I'd go back
Ruby Red Flamingo is one of my favourite restaurants. K absolutely loves eating pasta and this is his favourite place. There is no booking system and they only accept walk ins so whenever I feel like eating here I always come as soon as they open at 5.30pm on the dot. Even then there’s always a crowd lining up at the door which shows how great and popular this place is.
Awesome Italian food. Crab pasta to die for. Steak was nice and tender. One of our marine was bland and we told the waiter. The chef tasted it and agreed once we were done. When paying the bill they removed that dish from the bill even though it was half eaten. Good service, will be back.
Not a bad place to have a feed.. Foods always decent. The only let down is sometimes the service and also having to walk around looking for the menu items on different walls.. This place is ok once every blue moon but nope, not on my favourites list.
I swear they have my mothers dinner plates from the 70s that I ditched recently. Well its quirky all the way because the name and even location doesn't say Italian straight away. This place doesn't take reservations but wait you can hang around for a drink while u wait. Best time 6pm and you should get a table if pre dinner drinks is not on your agenda. The menu is reworked traditional but remains very Italian. The separate pasta menu is worthwhile. It's expensive however pasta is hand made in house. My small group of 3 we managed to share our mains together. The food was well presented, delicious and filling.

Ruby Red Flamingo (RRF) is a lovely hideaway in North Adelaide and was packed out when we went on a Friday night. The staff here are really friendly and welcoming! I started with a mocktail, the Cicciolina, with pineapple, orange, lemon and soda, packed with fresh orange, lemon and lime wedges for extra freshness. Dish one was the beetroot cured salmon carpaccio; elegant and fresh, although I would have liked a stronger salmon flavour. The fresh fennel on top went well. Things only got better with dish two – the BEST ARANCINI I’VE EVER HAD. Seriously. The perfect balance between crisp,
On the local front we recently dropped into what is definitely our favourite Italian haunt in Adelaide – Ruby Red Flamingo. There are two things we always order here, the Bresaola and the Spaghetti Grancho. When I recommend Ruby Red Flamingo to anyone it has always come with the bonus tip of making sure that these dishes hit the table. However this trip introduced a new contender into the mix and we may have found a new pasta favourite.
Date night is calling!!
Lovely decor, with a nice walk-in entrance.
Menus are up on the walls so you may have to crane your next to read them.
We ordered the arancini, char grilled veal and agnolotti.
The arancini was disappointing in that given the price, the serving size was on the small side. Otherwise the arancini was lovely.
Veal was great, tender, well seasoned and not over cooked. The accompanying spinach and potato were great too!! - I know that sounds weird but it's totally true.
The agnolotti however was my favourite. Beautiful hand made agnolotti, cooked perfectly with a predominantly mushroom sauce thing. But be warned. If you don't like mushroom do not order this.
Service was good, efficient and attentive to our needs. The arancini is pretty much the only reason I'm not giving it 5/5.
Simply amazing. The only thing wrong with this place is its not open on Sunday nights. It's sensational. Most amazing food and can't wait to return.
I always enjoy the food at Ruby Red - everything is yum. I particularly love the osso bucco risotto and the crab pasta.
The level of service is always impressive.
I was taken out for lunch on Friday and no idea what to expect. My friend had a connection to someone involved with the restaurant. It turned out to be a hidden gem.The three staff who served us were great. Friendly and familiar in a professional way.The espresso martini was a great way to start the meal. And we went tapas (most people have no idea what tapas actually is - small dishes of food to accompany drinking - a slice of pizza yes, a whole pizza no). So we had a selection of dishes as tasting portions. The beef and tuna was delicious. The tomato dish.... oh the fresh real taste of tomato which so many tomatoes no longer have....... I could have stayed all afternoon eating my way the menu trying everything.....Coming from Sydney it did have one feature that I was totally not expecting and not their fault at all - I never thought of Adelaide as having a flight path to be under......Highly recommend this venue as somewhere different if you are looking for a new adventure. Visited August 2015
Really enjoyed this place! Had to wait for a table but it was well worth it. The food was delicious and fresh and the service was super friendly and helpful. Would go again.
Really good and nicely cooked italian food. Highly recommend the gnocchis that are one of the best I have tasted in Adelaide (literally melts in your mouth).
Sammy is one of the best waiters in Adelaide. Well presented, friendly and welcoming. The food is also amazing. Recommend the squid ink pasta when it's available.
Have been to Ruby Red on a few occasions now and have never left disappointed. The food is tasty, the service is attentive without being overbearing and the vibe is great. Highly recommend for any occasion.
What a Fantastic Find!! Hidden on Tynte St it's a lovely old house turned Beautiful Italian restaurant complete with an upstairs cocktail bar and a lovely outdoor courtyard. I like the menu on boards and the daily made pasta, the Osso Bucco risotto was a stand out. Great service with excellent food & Italian wine recommendations. Am so glad to have tried this place so I can now recommend to friends. Need to try dessert so will be back! 👌😊
This Italian restaurant is a must go/must try at O'Connell street. Situated on one of the side street at o'Connell street, lots of parking on side but Friday and Saturday nights can get real crowded so get there earlier. Ruby red flamingo does not take reservation unless it's a big group of 10 and above, so if you are not in a group, go early to avoid waiting too long (walk in system). Have a huge selection of drinks - wine list, cocktails, mocktails and etc... When I dine in, I've got a table outside & their menu is written on the board hanging. I may find is sometimes hard to read all of them from entree, probably prefer if they print out menu but not a major issue. Food was absolutely delicious, the cured swordfish was so fresh and so well seasoned. It is not overly sour or salty. Bread was served with olive oil - it is fresh and soft. Main meal - must try crab linguine. It is one of the signature dish. Again the flavour is very well balanced. Heaps of crab meat in the dish. The pasta was cook perfectly. Most of the mains are delicious. Good serving portions to share around too. With his restaurant, you do not need to head anywhere for dessert after. This restaurant serves good dessert. It's like the icing on the cake. Semi Freddo is to die for, I would crave to have that dessert again and again and it is perfect for summer.
What a colourful, joyous venue. We were immediately impressed by the atmosphere and the paintings on the walls when we walked in. We did have to wait to wait half an hour for a table upstairs, but we enjoyed a lovely bottle of red and our food came out quickly once we had been seated. The gnude was lovely, but the macaroni eggplant was my favourite. As a vegetarian it was nice to have some good options to chose from. Our blonde haired waiter with the man bun was wonderful. Amazing service with a huge smile, he made our night!
There was a bit of a wait for a table being a Saturday night, but we had a cocktail in the bar upstairs. When we were seated our entree came out really quickly and it was amazing. The fresh gnocchi was incredible and the staff are so so friendly. Loved it!
I've been here once and have been trying to go back since. I wish they would allow bookings for small groups to make it easier to get a spot here. The food reminds me of home cooked food. When I can't get a table here, I just make my way to Tony Tomatoes.

took us ages to get into this place as you can't book unless you have a table for 6 or more but when we finally did we loved it! the interior is very funky and the service is great! my fave was the arancini balls and eggplant pasta, the servings are big too!
Ruby Red Flamingo feels like your Italian nonna's backyard business that has cheerfully taken over the whole household. Espousing a rustic antique, graphically menued walls, protruding furniture over multiple disjointed dining rooms and an outside deck; the mood is buzzing, homely and plain fun. However I'm not much of a fan of the dim lighting making everyone look yellow and food superficially less pleasing for the insta. First off, the restaurant is BYO with $14 corkage, a fact we maximized on for the night, so my memories of the food remain a tad hazy, and everything probably tasted better than it actually was. We started with the octopus carpaccio and scotch filled with tuna dressing, both pleasing, light dishes though the carpaccio was a tad too salty. In contrast, the eggplant and mezze pastas were heavy, well-generous portions and from memory, I rather enjoyed the flavours and eggplant isn't something I'm usually a fan of. Though nothing was particularly spectacular; on the whole, good quality Italian food for very fair prices and quantity with a top notch, very happy waiter who seemed like he didn't have a sad bone in his body.
Went to Ruby Red Flamingo last night to be honest not expecting much other than a decent pasta. Started with a awesome negroni and apperol spritzer then moved onto some of the most awesome food and wine I have had in a long time. Gnocchi, Eggplant and polenta in various dishes were fantastic!!! Highly recommend!
This has been one of my top five restaurants for a couple of years now, the food has always been incredible and service great. However took some interstate friends there last night and had the worst service ever, I was actually embarrassed that I took my friends there. Our waitress was very rude and disinterested in serving us. We had to keep calling her over to order and had to ask what the specials were, something they always do without asking. In the end we actually avoided calling over our waitress and waited till other waiters were nearby. I will be back as the food was still incredible but I hope not to be served by her.
LOVE. This place has never let down. I've been here 5x. Very very nice food. Great service. Make a night of it with friends. No bookings but turn up and drink while you wait!
I feel like I didn't experience Ruby Red's full potential tonight!! After hearing people rave about it for ages I bit the bullet and was happy to go.
We were seated quickly in the warm and quieter outdoor marquee. Complimentary bread arrived as soon as we sat which was sourdough with some nice strong olive oil. We started with the seafood arancini. These were delish. Perfectly crisp with beautiful cheesy rice livened up with the lemon wedge provided.
I had the pan fried veal with prosciutto, mushrooms and semolina gnocchi. At first I was delivered the wrong veal dish, but management swiftly made the change and it wasn't long I had to wait until my ordered meal arrived. The gnocchi really was a treat. Veal was nice and lots of mushrooms with good honest flavours from sage, but nothing sensational.
Friend had the beetroot ravioli with sage butter sauce and poppy seeds. The ravioli itself was nice. Beautiful fresh al dente pasta and lovely filling. Neither friend nor me liked the sharp poppyseed taste that came after the first flavour of the beautiful pasta. Friend also reported the butter sauce became sickly the more she ate.
Very homely service and despite the mishap I would like to come back to try more traditional pastas because I feel like this place would nail them.
DELISH eggplant pasta, friendly service, cozy fireplace and the BEST tiramisu I've had in a long time! Deserving of a higher score but we didn't particularly rate the arancini balls or the octopus carpaccio (usually go to favourites at other establishments). Will definitely be back for more pasta though - they all sound amazing!
Beautiful food and attentive service. Had to wait a bit for a table but they have a lovely little bar upstairs so you can have a drink while you wait. Highly recommend and will return.
Service was great, and the staff were attentive. We were in a hurry as I was about to start my shift, but the food came quite timely and it was delish!
I'd definitely go back. There's a huge variety to try and it's a pretty cool place too

Our second experience at ruby red was probably better than the first! The food was amazing, the staff were extremely friendly! I would definitely be going back just to try more food items on the menu !
Service was great, majority of staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered the spaghetti granchio, taglierini, and roast potatoes as our side dish. Didn't have to wait long as food came out pretty quickly. Spaghetti granchio aka crab pasta was devine. You can really taste the freshness of the crab. My first experience of taglierini will have a long lasting impression of this dish. It was simply amazing. Their dishes were full of flavour. And their roast potatoes were baked to perfection, crispy outside while soft inside and flavoursome.
The downside of dining here; the wait is long (30-45mins, sometimes an hour). Pity they don't take bookings. Also they need to get a physical copy of the menu so we don't have to strain our necks to see the menu (unless they do have one that I don't know of). Nonetheless, I would definitely recommend this place if you have the time!
What can I say about Ruby Red...
For me, it's one of those places that I would never say no to if someone suggested it for dinner. It's one of those places that if one of my friends hasn't been there I laugh at them and call them a food rookie and use taking them there as an excuse to go there myself. It's pretty close to the perfect restaurant experience. It's casual but still maintains a classiness about it. The food is consistently delicious but the prices are more than reasonable. The staff are incredibly professional. There's a good reason that people are happy to wait an hour in the bar upstairs to eat here.
Food:
Pretty much everything I have had on the menu (and I think I've tried almost everything) has been enjoyable. The pastas are the standouts but the small dishes are all fantastic and will certainly get you in the mood. The specials are often really interesting but I find it hard to stray from the reliably tasty regular menu items. The only criticism I can think of is that compared to the rest of the menu, the Spiedini can be a little bit bland and dry, but this is being incredibly picky on my part.
Service:
When you are greeted at the door by someone who remembers your name after the first few times you visit you know you're in a good place. The service here is friendly and relaxed, but also very helpful. They will tell you when you've under or over ordered and listen to you when you tell them that you have the appetite of a person 3 times your size, without judgement (this is very rare from my experience).
Ambience:
Ruby Red somehow manages to squeeze a lot of people into small spaces throughout an entire night and yet maintains a calm and comfortable atmosphere. This is a real credit to the staff and management I think. Somehow it's an ideal venue for a catch up with family & friends or a romantic dinner for two.
Dish to look out for:
It's incredibly hard for me to pick between the eggplant pasta and the prawn & pancetta pasta, I love them both like I would my own children. But, just as it is with children, there is always a slightly better one, and I think in this case the prawn and pancetta pasta is the superior sibling. But get them both. YOLO
Fast forward a year, give or take, and I found myself back at Ruby Red Flamingo for a homely, comforting and winter warming Italian feast. Bookings can only be made with groups of 10 and more, and even then, you’re stuck with their banquet menu, so an early arrival was best to ensure that our quartet got ourselves a table and that meant we avoided a wait time that can be as long as 2 hours!
Beautiful, simple Italian food made with love. The menu is small but varies and even the red & green salad dressed simply with oil and salt is heavenly. Definitely worth the wait if you haven't booked as you can pop upstairs for a drink first - the bar is stunning.
Had dinner here with a friend last night. Entrance was through a little patio which I thought was fascinating. Was seated within 10 minutes. Menu was written up all over the walls and to be honest it was a little hard to read but, it added a little bit of a wow factor to the place as its different from reading straight of a menu. Atmosphere was cozy and service was really friendly. We ordered the pasta ragu dish and grilled calamari and prawns. Calamari and prawns were perfectly cooked. Would definitely go back there again :)

This is a quaint and cosy little gem hidden off O'Connell street. We were lucky to get a table midweek, we booked on the day. The waitress was amazing, recalled all the specials and gave us some great recommendations. This made the dining experience even better, as we got to sample more things. We shared the polenta, which had the most amazing cheese sauce and spinach i have ever eaten. Then my friend had the braised rabbit pasta, and i the roasted half chicken and vegies. Bith generous in size, we were blown away at the freshness of the food. Lastly, we shared chocolate lava dessert which was more than enough for both of us. We absolutely loved ruby red flamingoes and will return.
This place is so cosy, we ordered two pastas, the crab pasta and the eggplant pasta. The crab pasta is divine! One thing that I was a bit disappointed about is that they don't take reservations so I was sitting in a dark place and could not take a proper photo of the food :/ But overall loved the food, best crab pasta ever!
RUBY RED FLAMINGO:
This place had a particularly loving and warm atmosphere that was evident the moment we were welcomed in by the extremely friendly staff. The ever changing menu on the blackboard was extremely impressive and made for some difficult decisions. We started with thin slices of scotch fillet which were succulent and flavoursome . We also had cured pieces of salmon which melted in the mouth and was absolutely divine. We shared a plate filled with an assortment of calamari, prawns and veggies which looked deceivingly simple on the outside but each bite burst with flavour that made it special. Finally we had the Osso Bucco Risotto which was a highlight. Perfect texture and rich taste that was a delight to the senses. Ruby Red Flamingo lived up to all expectations, with friendly and quick service accompanied by delectable food that took 'italian' to a whole new level.
Rating: 8/10
We visited RRF for the third time with an interstate relative and foodie. Not sure where to take this guy that would be different and interesting. We decided on RRF for it's quirky, relaxed feel, moderate price range and good homely food. The waitress was friendly and informed, making some worthwhile suggestions which is always appreciated. BYO also helped with complementing the meal. He enjoyed it and we were happy to revisit.
This is my third time here, and the third was the best. We had lots of carpaccio entrees (salmon, octopus, and beef). First time I had octopus like that which was silky and delightful (not chewy at all!). Our mains were superb. A tasty rabbit pasta with Ramiro base. But the squid ink seafood pasta was unreal. Packed with Chilli, prawns, scallops, and fresh pasta. Food came out quickly too. Shame you can't book for less than 10 people however.
Did you want the good news or the bad news first?
Bad news: no reservations.
If you have children and wanted to book a table, no can do. But we just have to accept the fact that it is the "in thing" at the moment. So be smart and go in when they open. Especially for dinner.
Great news: great food, great service.
Food is traditional Italian. Huge serves of pasta and risotto, both delicious. Octopus carpaccio was delightful, light and delicate with beautiful tangy flavours.
Wine list was also modest. No Grange or Hill of Grace but some beautiful savoury wines to match with the food available.
If you have a hankering for decent value traditional Italian food with great food and great service, then Ruby Red is right up your alley.
Update: they now take reservations.
Cute place, great service. The food was excellent and very quick to come out. A very different menu which is nice to try new things. We had beetroot ravioli which was amazing.
Ruby red flamingo. Firstly, the staff are really friendly and welcoming! They were very happy to chat and quickly seated us outside while we waited for the restaurant to open. As it was my first time dining, I was actually surprised at the extensive and diverse menu. The waiting staff were thorough in explaining the dishes, and we ended up with a delicious and diverse pick. The saffron risotto was delicious as was the swordfish. Such a relaxed place with authentic and quality dishes! Can't wait to dine here again!
Fun, Unique, Delicious. A unique experience with an ever changing menu. You need to crank your neck a little to see everything on the blackboards around the room, but its worth it. With many dishes having a small and large option, it gives you flexibility to try a few different items, or to stick with a tried and true main meal if that's more your style. Good range of drinks, food was delicious, and staff were friendly and helpful in guiding us towards the ideal amount of food to order. Would definitely return!
The setting is lovely. We were seated outside in the quaintly decorated marquee. The service was attentive and the pasta dishes received compliments all round with members of our party saying they would be happy to return to the resturant again to eat the same dishes. The only hiccup was that the resturant didn't respond to the message left to call back regarding booking a table and we had to follow up.
Had a great time for dinner. Food selection is good and the server Zoe was particularly helpful. Would go again to try more items on the menu. Duck ravioli was the standout.
Amazing food and service, food just about flies out of the kitchen so can serve as a great quick bite before heading to the city
Omg. The pasta we had was so incredible, best pasta I have eaten. Staff were so friendly and lovely, such a good vibe. Will be back for sure! I can't stress it enough, the pasta was insane. I had the duck ravioli, I will forever be chasing the high
Have been dining here for at least 5 years - very consistent and generous serving sizes while being reasonably priced. Highly recommended
The pasta is absolutely incredible! Hands down the best in Adelaide,my personal favourite were the mezze maniche and the agnolotti the location is very interesting and the staff were helpful and super friendly.
