Review Amalfi - Adelaide

Oliver Forbes
100% every time. I still remember my first trip to Amalfi with my family when I was six years old (29 years ago). I still remember how delicious the pizza tasted. We went often for a family dinner and it was incredible every time. I visited Thursday night with my partner for dinner as we are visiting Adelaide - it was my first time back to Amalfi in over 10 years. It is still 100%. Delicious food and genuinely friendly service. Amalfi, you lot are incredible. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Lex's work lunch at @amalfiadelaide! We've not been there in ages. Their pizzas are super delicious 😋😋😋. So many different options to choose from, and the toppings are all so yummy 😍😍. One of the better pizza places in Adelaide!
Augustine Tie
Great good, great place. The chef is very generous with the olive oil, which is a good thing. The scallop fungi is amazing, highly recommended. Be warned, the portions are also generous. Will definitely return.

Food was fabulous with great serves. Worthwhile booking to get in. Staff were friendly & service was excellent. If you are looking for a special place to dine, this is it.

Every time I come to Adelaide I come to Amalfi. They have the best garlic bread and pasta in Australia if you ask me!
Miss J
Cozy restaurant along Frome to get your Italian fix. Portion is big for the mains, definitely get your moneys worth. The classic meatball pasta will bring you back to your childhood days. Huge meatballs and very saucey. The special amalfi pizza is also packed generously with toppings. What a delicious combo of flavours. There's also cheese powder on the table that you can add on top of your dish. Brings it all to a new height.

Great spot for a meal. Service was excellent throughout dinner time, highly recommend the ragu pairing with the Grenache. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Able to book online and choose where to sit (inside the restaurant or outside).

After living in Italy for 10 years, this is the best pasta I've had outside of the country. Absolutely incredible ragu, lovely staff and great service. Definitely back soon!
Yohan Yosua
We ordered Capricciosa Pizza and Meatball Spaghetti that were beyond amazing. Staffs were so attentive and helpful. Definitely will be back if I have a chance to visit Adelaide again!

What can I say! I’ve been to this place for almost 10 times now and it never disappoints! Best pasta I’ve ever had, my favourite is con ponlo and almalfi.. just the thought of it makes me salivate! 5/5 easy 👏
Elle-Eats
Easily my favourite place to eat pasta. Sizes are generous and the dishes are delicious. Take me here again and again and I would be over the moon. Atmosphere is busy but the service is delightful.

I mean this in the best possible way. The pizza is stupid.

Yep. You read that right. Stupid.

Stupid good.

It’s not right. It shouldn’t be legal. It’s addictive. I want more.

The dough - crisp, but not dry. Oily, but not greasy.

The toppings - plentiful, but not over the top. No one would ever complain about being ripped off.

If you are in Adelaide and you want a pizza - do yourself a favour and get in here.

We visited on Saturday night - it was 8:30 and the place was packed. And stayed packed. The staff are a credit to the establishment.

You need to go.

You. Will. Not. Regret. It.

Service - 10/10.
Food - 15/10.
Atmosphere 10/10.

Looked this place up through Zomato while in Adelaide, being from Melbourne we were not sure were to take our four kids while in town. Amalfi’s was a great choice, our waitress on the night (Sarah) was so helpful, she organised three kids meals even though they don’t have a kids menu, all our meals were nice and my wife’s steak was perfectly cooked medium rare. Value for money and great food with great atmosphere, not much more you could ask for!!!😄
Dgamering
Omg - excellent food and service in a warm family like atmosphere. Portions were generous and staff were friendly with a great sense of humor. I was impressed with my spaghetti marinara which came with generous seafood. My family loved their meals. I had high expectations with the rating given at zomato and have to say that they exceeded my expectations.

This place makes my heart sing. The best Italian restaurants play to their strengths and provide you with a comfy place to sit, good wine to choose from, and bread/pizza/pasta that you just can't seem to get to the bottom/the last slice of. This is one of those places. I have been countless times and highly recommend both the garlic and herb breads, all the pizzas, and the Amalfitana pasta. But, I honestly don't think you can go wrong no matter what you chose. The atmosphere is loud and vibrant so bear this in mind depending on the group you have!
Linda
While travelling from Melbourne....
A cute little find that is bustling with an ongoing flow of customers, great service and quality Italian food. The pizzas were particularly good. They were traditional in crust and flavours, and done with perfectionism that was fulfilling to eat. Although $31 for a large pizza, it was generous and filling.

Went there around 7pm and it was packed already! Great pizza but the portion for verdura(roasted veg)was rather small. It was still delicious tho
Sean
It’s a winner. Solo business traveller on a Thursday night and it was almost booked out before 7. Good bustling atmosphere.

Service 5
Food 5

Italian beer and very generous portions. Possibly too big but it gives a feeling that an authentic Italian family is running this. I can understand why it has great reviews.
Great service and large portions. The entre size was more than enough for us. I had the Amalfi pasta and it was yummy and creamy (a bit spicy)!

This is definitely the best Italian restaurant I have ever been to around Australia!! It got a very high quality and the most delicious pasta I have ever tasted. The most important thing is that it served with a lot of different kind of tasty and fresh seafood ingredients in just one dish of my seafood pasta! So it is definitely worth the price! Also, the pizza was also super mouthwatering and big! Overall, it made me and my friends super full and very satisfied!!

For the bathroom, it also looks pretty clean and beautiful designed! Please keep it up ;)

Therefore, I will absolutely highly recommend this restaurant to all of you and I will come back to eat there again for sure if I travel to Adelaide again in the future. Best of luck and please remember to always maintain your excellent food quality and customer service. Love you Amalfi so much!! Thanks a lot for the super yummy and high quality food, friendly customer service and nice bathrooms! Best of luck and We will see you again! :)

Amalfi is a well established Adelaide favourite for a hearty Italian fix, and there is absolutely no doubt about why. We popped in for dinner after a long and arduous day, and were slotted in to the busy dining area on a Friday night.

It was cosy and warm, and the service from wait staff was friendly and charismatic. To accompany the jovial and bubbly atmosphere, we decided to start off with a few drinks - a glass of Shiraz and another of sparkling Shiraz.

For our main course, we had the Scallopine ai Funghi - veal with mushrooms, potatoes and wilted greens. It was tender and cooked to perfection, while the potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. We also had the Con Pollo - rigatoni with mushroom and pancetta cream sauce. The pasta was al dente, warm and comforting. There were hints of sweetness from the diced apricot, which just cut through the richness and provided a twist on the traditional with some mouth-watering flavour combinations.

We couldn’t really fault much with this visit, and will be back for a hearty meal when the winter nights are proving chilly enough for a big serve of Italian comfort food.

Please note I am biased when writing this review. Amalfi is by far my stand out favourite restaurant for pizza and pasta, and has been for over 10 years. I have always gone for the puttanesca pasta and the capricciosa. That was until I tried by chance the spinaci pizza, this rocked my world so much that I don’t think I’ll be having capricciosa again. The staff are welcoming, accommodating and knowledgeable on their products, the wines and are passionate. This place is always busy, so bookings are necessary if you want to guarantee a seat.... or a short wait. Humans are creatures of habit, and we don’t like change. In my recent experience change delivered more surprising and delicious experiences, so give everything on the menu a go, the cooks here are top notch and know there stuff!

One of my favourite restaurants, every time I’m in Adelaide I try to fit in a visit to Amalfi, always great service and great food. I love the Melanzane as an entree and the Spaghetti Marinana is always the best and delicious Pizzas.
Lynn
Fantastic for casual dining. We did not reserve but luckily got a table without lining. Pizza was crispy. I like their flavouring. Tiramisu was served with ketchup which was a brand new taste for me. Three people eat to completely full spending $52 ordering a large pizza, salad and Tiramisu. Though it was crowded during dinner time but still nice and warm service. Only drawback was too many customers lol😂
Always Hungry
Tried Amalfi for the first time last Friday night what a lovely place. The wait time was a little long but it’s to be expected in such a flourishing restaurant. Clare our server was amazing, she was attentive to our needs and knowledgeable about the product. Food was good, generous portions. Good wine selection. Will be back

Who doesn’t like Amalfi?! I ordered the con pollo pasta and everything about it you just cannot fault. The pasta was cooked al dente which is exactly how it should be cooked. The cream sauce was so lovely and jam packed with flavours with a hint of apricot which tied everything together to nicely! My partner ordered the pizza with the lot which was great too! There were a lot of toppings on the pizza and you would never get a dull bite. He really enjoyed the pizza! My other two friends ordered the two specials pasta from the board. One was the meatball spaghetti and the other was the cockles and mussels cooked with fish stock. They both really enjoyed their dishes.
Was a lovely experience and would highly recommend!

First time coming here, and I loved it! Yes the pizza was full of flavour and I liked the base, but what I loved the most were the staff, so friendly and had a good knowledge of what went into the food. And any questions we had regarding chilli they’d double check with the chef! I’ll definitely be back! It was buzzing busy! 😍

Visited Amalfi last night in a group of 8 including a toddler, and it was excellent! Food was beautiful - we had various pizzas, pastas and calzones and we were all impressed with our meals. Even the toddler, who acts like you're trying to kill him every time you try to get him to eat, was gladly tucking into his meal! Excellent service too - our waiter remembered everything perfectly without writing anything down and was really knowledgable about the food. One of the people I was with was on a strict diet and our waiter was SO helpful, providing lots of different options she could eat. Five stars!

I came into Amalfi with high expectations and I left underwhelmed by the food.

Being a very busy Monday evening I appreciated their efforts to seat a single diner travelling on business. Other than a long wait for my order to be taken, the service was excellent. The restaurant was busy, somewhat loud, but did have a genuine Italian feel.

The salt and pepper had a nice chewy texture and smooth and slightly crisply outer coating. Taste was bland but helped by the mayo provided with the dish. Price of $22.50 was on the high end. I would advise against ordering this dish as a main as one would be bored rather quickly.

The veal with mushroom/greens/potato was the most underwhelming dish. The dish came with 3 pieces of surprisingly small and thin veal pieces. Few cuts of baby potatoes, and a portion of sauteed spinach. While the veal was tasty and tender, the rest of dish was something any average cook can put together.

Perhaps their strength lies in the Pizza and Pastas, based on the high rating alone I would am inclined to come back and give it another go.
Valerie
AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS AND AUTHENTIC PIZZA!
Yet to try the other dishes because that PIZZA! that MELTY TASTY CHEESE on the Pizza reminds me of the good old days and real cheese pizzas. You cannot go past this place and you must must must take a seat, get a menu, a bottle of Shiraz and pizza and plenty of it.
I cannot fault this place and you will notice that they are always busy so I would recommend calling ahead. This place is a must visit for any pizza and Italian food lover.
Friendly and happening atmosphere probably not the best if you are after a quiet night!
Great for dates but it can get pretty loud...but that's good to cover up any awkward silences and long pauses...hahah! You will not regret this place and its worth the little extra! Quality not Quantity!!!

I came to this pizzeria with my friend last night after reading great reviews on this place. This place lives up to its ratings and serves excellent food.

Now onto the food, for starters we went with salt and pepper squid and mussels. Salt and pepper squid tasted amazing. It was fried to perfection and it complimented well with the salad that was served with it and the garlic sauce. The mussels tasted delicious as well. But it was mixed with small pieces of sardines and it was too salty. I understand the combination but maybe leave out the sardines next time when serving with the mussels. It wasn't too much of a botheration when eating the mussels. As you would expect soft and succulent mussels. Nothing else I can ask for.

Now onto the mains, we ordered two large pizzas. Margherita and Marinara pizza. I have eaten a lot of Margherita pizzas over my time but i absolutely loved the Margherita pizza from this place. Upon each bite I could taste the tomato sauce whose flavour was always lingering in my mouth. It was cheesy heaven for me as I ate this pizza. Cheese was mouth watering delicious!

The marinara pizza tasted equally good as well. I'm really not a big fan of seafood pizza but this place changed my mind. Beautiful cooked prawns, mussels and again that delicious tomato base sauce flavour was lingering in my mouth after every bite of this pizza. As you can see I was thoroughly impressed with the pizzas, me and my friend went for.

Great customer service and they always carry a pepper shaker in hand if you want extra pepper in your pizzas. A great place to be in and it's always buzzing. It is very loud in here as I could not hear my friend talk but hey there is nothing you can do about it. Maybe improve the Acoustics in the restaurant in the near future? It's best also if you book a table in advance, booking a table in this place is highly recommended. Since this restaurant is situated in the city, parking is impossible with the amount of constructions happening now all over the city, lol. So there is a Wilson car park just located beside the restaurant and U car park located opposite the restaurant. So it shouldnt be too much trouble to find parking.

I don't know how much I paid for the food since my friend paid for it after a long argument of who's going to pay the bill where I ended up losing this round, haha. But I'll definitely be back again in this place when I'm in Adelaide next time and can't wait to taste their selection of pastas they have to offer as well as their pizzas. Ciao for now!

Miss K
Spinachi pizza was one of the best I have had. Meat, cheese and spinach leaves that come out toasted after time in the oven - but no taste of burnt food. Seafood marinara pizza was sensation. Flavoursome, juicy, good amount of seafood - only problem is you can't stop eating when you should. Spaghetti marinara equally as good. Main is only a couple of dollars more than entree so it's better value for money to go big. Maybe not as good value for your waist. Tiramisu was delicious. A reasonably small serve, with raspberry coulis, but clearly made in house and all that you need after the carb overload.
Tables reasonable close together, a little loud buy the food is tops. Great service. Recommend you book unless you're happy to wait.

This is the second time in Amalfi and both times the food was excellent. This place was recommended by an Italian colleague of having an authentic italian dishes and he was right. The last time I had the specials on the board. Fish with veggies and salad and it was very tasty. This time I also chose one of their specials on the board but this time I went for the veal acallopini with veggies and salad, which was also very satisfying. Had 6 oysters for entree. The oysters are good but not as fresh as I'd like them to be so next time I will forego the oysters but I would definitely come back.

Amazing italian food with awesome service.

The amatriciana pasta was to die for. Fresh flavours and the tastiest spaghetti i have ever eaten.

The americano pizza was indulgent and put me in a good food coma soon after.

The staff was helpful and warm.
Would definitely go back.

Quite possibly the best Italian Restaurant I have found in Adelaide. As a Pizza fanatic this is hard to beat. If you dont like it noisy and busy its maybe not your best option but if you love a Traditional Pizza its hard to beat!
Alexis Marelic
Rated very highly in my books, I have been going to this restaurant since I was about 8 years old and am now 26 and the food has always been consistently high quality. Hands down my favourite restaurant
Danguglielmucci
Amazing traditional pizza packed with flavour. The eggplant parmigiana is not to be missed. Every dish I've had here is perfectly balanced. It's gets super busy, so book ahead or go in early. Cheap parking across the street.

The pasta reminded me of some of the best Italian Restaurants in Lygon St in Carlton or Norton St in Leichhardt it was that good. The sauces were rich and flavoursome and the pasta was al dente. Service was friendly and efficient and not phased by the time taken to order. Will definitely come here again. My new favourite Italian in Adelaide.
Flora Wan
Went there at Saturday nite, ordered take away food because they didn't have anymore space to dinning in. We had been told to get back after 25min, but when we got back after 35mins, it was not ready yet, wait for another 10mins, finally we got the dinner. The food is all right but we feel really really disappointed and unheeded.
William Keung
Excellent service; tasty risotto and pasta; the pizza base is the best in Australia - crispy and the texture is just nice. When we receive the bill, it surprised me that's too reasonably cheap. The only bad thing is the restaurant is just too small, making it noisy all the time and tables are too small to put all the dishes we ordered.
Tram Nguyen
The restaurant was so crowded..even though we went there at around 9pm! Yummy food, worth the wait 👏🏻 however some staff members were not that friendly..maybe because it was late and everyone was tired. Overall, recommend if you are looking for Italian food in Adelaide
Food - 5/5
Service - 4/5

Don't expect pizza flavours like meatlovers here, like i first did LOL. Amalfi's serves up traditional Italian in a casual setting - definitely a place you can't go wrong when it comes to pizza and pasta. The pizzas aren't the traditional super thin bases like I like nowadays but still so delicious and the toppings are fresh. It's always busy, especially inside where it gets loud and noisy, so book ahead!
Sarah
Fantastic Italian food, really enjoy our dinner! Had the squid ink cavatelli (with smoked eel, prawns) and home made gnocchi with ragu, both were delicious. Also had choccolato dessert - chocolate brownie with salted caramel, gelato, candied nuts and pear jam.

Venue is busy every night I heard!
Asha
Always been a fan of their pastas .. this gem of a place used to be an icon in Adelaide. However my most recent experience here after more than a year proved to be disappointing. We waited almost an hour for our food and this was on a weeknight. Yes there were busy but not more than usual- I've certainly seen them busier on a weekend! We even asked the waiting staff the cause for the delay and was not given any explanation. The food which arrived was also not up to their usual standard. Overall quite disheartened with the dining experience this time.. hopefully just a one of disappointment.

I have been coming here for many years, it's an old favourite for so many Adelaidians. Recently I got the surprise of my life and was beyond happy to see that they have added vegan cheese option to their menu!! Well played Amalfis!

Have been here a couple times. And every time has been amazing. We came here for Valentines Day. We were greeted straight away, and seated. A nice window table.

We order 1/2 dozen kilpatrick for entree, the oysters are very nicely cooked. The special mushroom risotto is amazing! I'm not a mushroom person but this is amazing!! The flavours are perfect With Parmesan on top. My partner orders the veal scallopinne cooked to perfection; with a nice big serve of spinach which complements the meal perfectly.

For dessert we order the tiramisu. I love my tiramisu and get disappointed when places don't nail it. Although they did a good job, the tiramisu here isn't the best; you don't get that alcohol hit in it. And instead of chocolate shavings on top it's covered in a chocolate shell.

Lovely service; great food! An iconic restaurant here in Adelaide. A must go to place!!
Global Foodie & Filmy
Almost an Adelaide institution for Italian. Great authentic Italian food at very reasonable prices. Yes it is very noisy when busy and very conjested but that adds to the atmosphere
Danny G
Winner, winner - spaghetti dinner. Drop in really late on a Wednesday night...starving! 2 bottles of wine and 5 plates of spaghetti and we were done. These are big serves and tasty. Value ok, little rich but big serves.
Tige
Amalifi's is the kind of place you go for a good feed guaranteed. Yes it's noisy and yes it's a tight squeeze as the place is always packed with diners, but who cares when the food is as good as it is! You really can't go wrong with anything on offer, it's all delicious and tasty Italian fare. It's a great place to catch up with friends and you will never go home hungry, especially if you all have the shared menu which is very well priced at $40 pp. Book ahead so you don't miss out on getting a table.

How good is the garlic bread here! Scrummy! I think I have consumed about a million pieces of garlic bread in my foodie heaven life and this one is really good! Buttery, garlicky, soft & crunchy, perfect!

We ordered a pizza this time and it was delicious! Great toppings, cooked perfectly and an excellent base. All of the other meals that passed us by looked great!

Service was just outstanding, nothing missed, nothing too much trouble and uber attention to detail, loved it!

Would definitely return and soon!
Foodfortheitis
This is most certainly my favourite spot for pasta in Adelaide. It can be quite difficult to get into when there are more than two of you so booking is a must!

Highly recommend the cockles and mussels with spaghetti and the marinara.. Good seafood pasta Is hard to come by,

As this place is always pumping the food can take a little while to come. But most certainly worth the wait. Staff are also very friendly.
Jessica Douglas
An old favourite that continues to deliver! Always delicious and great service. I loooove their meatballs with spaghetti.
Serves are almost too generous, but I dont mind because they let you take the leftovers home. A main pasta will usually be my lunch AND dinner!
SKIFOODS
The pizza is just so goooood here. If you love cheese, come here.
Its very loud inside and hard to talk to people but for food you cant go wrong.
Abbott And Abbess
Well, rating of over 4.5 from nearly 1800 reviews is impressive. We ordered our staples, vegetarian pizza and garlic bread...well, was not disappointed. The pizza's were great. Service was good.
Renegade
This cosy little Italian place is up there with the best of them. We have tried both the pizza and pasta here and we're amazed at the flavours. I just didn't want the meals to end even though I was full to the brim. Each bite tantalised my taste buds. Highly highly recommend. My go to place when in Adelaide.
Daniella De Pretis
Good food, not overly spectacular, particularly for the price (I think it was a little on the pricey side). I had the special, the linguine with mussels and vongole. It was nice. Not bad, not amazing. Solid.
TPD
Oh my freaking goodness, I loved this place ! We just stumbled upon it tonight and decided to give it a try. It was a busy place even for a week night but we don't mind the noise because it camouflages our kids' ones. We ordered the marinara pasta, the con pollo pasta, the spinacci pizza and the pepper and squids : not only everything was delicious but also the portions were great. We loved the non fuss earthy flavours, the service was so very friendly and generous : when our waitress found out that we waited a bit too long for our wines, they were put on the house ! We can't wait to come back and sample more from that nice home feel pizza place !!
_foodiej
This place is the bomb. While Amalfi is a small-medium sized restaurant, one thing for sure is their big mains. We first tried out their Spinachi pizza and it was just so yummy, except for the fact that the olives added way too much saltiness to it. Our mains then came (Amalfi pasta and the marinara) and I was incredibly surprised with how big they were! My marinara could have fed at least two people, so if you're up for a large meal, I would definitely recommend this place. The mains are around $30 only plus the staff are so friendly.
Poppie
Poppy popped in with a few friends for the banquet. My God was it delicious! The sheer amount of food served for $40 a head is mind blowing! We were started off with antipasto platters, mussels in a delicious sauce, garlic bread, and focaccias and two variations of salt & pepper squid! All were incredibly tasty. Then came the beautiful Al dente pastas, Ragu, Alla Panna, and two delicious types of Risotto. Once Poppy had just enough time to digest out came the pizzas, then the cotolette with salad and potatoes on the side. Incredible spread of Italian food. Noone could move after eating it all. Nothing was spared. Poppy's highlight was the anchovy Zeppole, out of this world fresh and mouth watering. Poppy highly recommends Amalfi for dinner or lunch anytime and if you can get 15 people together for the banquet you're laughing. Such friendly and helpful staff who really know what they're doing and what great table service should be. Love the relaxed rustic atmosphere too. Thumb up definitely worth an eat 👍👍

From the moment you step in, you're surrounded by amazing smells and lovely bright smiles. Oh what a glorious place to celebrate any occasion or just go for a a dinner! Make sure to book in advance, Amalfi's is always busy and for a bloody dam good reason! The enviroment is packed with a great ambiance and although it can get a bit crowded at times, don't let that frighten you, it ticks every other box! The wait staff are fantastic and are always keen to help suggest a beverage for your meal.

The food NEVER disappoints either, if you're a fan of pork, try the pork pasta. The pizzas are very filling and the variety is great. Would recommend to 11/10 people.

Hadn't been to Amalfi since I was a kid and was amazed that my favourite pasta dish was still on the menu.

The service was absolutely outstanding- all the wait staff were knowledgeable, friendly and attentive.

The food was delicious and filling.

Will return and recommend.

Today I thought I'd try this restaurant. It looks kind of cosy and it's in a good area. I really want to be as objective as possible without sounding negative. So, the front of house staff was simply wonderful. Friendly, enthusiastic and obliging. I asked to be moved to another table as I initially sat in a really cold spot. No issue. Service was great. Nice table water and a reasonable wine arrived before dinner. I ordered spaghetti Marinara. I realise this is a huge gamble when you haven't been in a restaurant before but this is what I felt like- so here I go. Food arrived quickly. It was a thick, very acidic tomatoe sauce with plenty of seafood in it. Mussels, shells, clamps, and some other undefinable ingredients. The thin spaghetti was saturated. I scraped the first mussle out it into my mouth and immediately regretted it- however it slid down my throat as it shouldn't have. The taste was absolutely, awfully off. I felt I just poisoned myself. As I played around with those heavily 'intoxicated' spaghetti, I had a look at the kitchen and realised how dirty it was. ( metal walls full of greasy left overs all along the wall) I also shouldn't have seen the cook in the white t-shirt taking his hands into a large pot and picking up stuff which he threw away. I tried one more mouthful and decided that life was too short for this kind of bad food. I asked to pay and the friendly waitress asked if everything was well to which I reluctantly responded "well, not really- the mussel I ate was off, but I don't want to complain I just can't eat this". She told me she'd talk to the manager and took the plate. I paid and left. Never ever again will I go there! The 2.0 points I give are for the waiting staff!
Came to this place two times now. Really good service and pastas! We ordered one pizza to share among the three of us as well- packed with toppings! Generous portion at reasonable price. No wonder it is so packed everyday. Bookings are really essential here.
TresHungry
Was recommended to come to this restaurant by the hotel concierge, and I'm glad I listened to him! Amalfi feels like a casual family restaurant. It was buzzing even though we came on a Monday night. The restaurant has an open kitchen so you can see the chefs and kitchen staff running around doing their thing.

Between the three of us, we ordered a large Spinaci Pizza (tomato, marinated spinach, chilli, olives, pancetta, bocconcini), a main size Spaghetti Con Polpette (pork & veal meatballs in a rich tomato sauce), an entree size Risotto of the Day (Spinach, pancetta, mushroom & shaved parmesan) and a small garden salad.

The pizza was fantastic. The pizza here is quite unique in the sense that it's definitely not thin crust, but the crust isn't so thick that it's like a bread. Usually I only like thin crust pizza, but I quite enjoyed the slightly thicker crust regardless. They were very generous with the toppings, and the flavours were well balanced so that no one ingredient overpowered the other. Every inch of the pizza was covered and had an even distribution of all the toppings. Each mouthful was an absolute joy!

The Spaghetti Con Polpette was a rather large portion. It was the least exciting dish of the night. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't anything special.

The mushroom risotto was lovely, and less rich and heavy than a typical risotto, which I appreciated.

I don't have to say much about the garden salad, because it was essentially just a bunch of leaves and some quartered tomatoes tossed together in some dressing. The salad was fresh and was a welcome addition to such a carb-heavy meal.

Overall I enjoyed my meal quite a lot. Definitely one of the better non-thin crust pizza places I've been to.
JN
Absolutely love the chicken pasta here! I've been back many times with a few friends and they enjoy the fresh, authentic pasta's. Definitely recommend to anyone. It can be a little loud inside though but food is great!
Melly
Yum yum yum! Love Amalfi's pizza and bustling atmosphere. Usually manage to score a last minute table too which is awesome! Love coming here with my family.
Aunty Ol
Haven't been here for years. Still noisy, still good waitstaff & same menu (+ specials board). Was delicious with generous serves and a good wine list. Think we'll be returning next week.
P
maybe my favorite restaurant in Adelaide, food is always fresh, flavorful, and filling

if you don't like the food here, maybe you don't like Italian food

Never before have I been moved to write a scathing review of a restaurant - our attempted visit to Amalfi last night prompted this exception. When my wife and I walked in to ask if a table for 2 would be available we were very, and I mean very, rudely advised by someone I assume was the Maitre D that "Actually No, we don't" the tone of this dismissal was at the higher end of rude. What a pity, such good reviews for the food and us as recent arrivals to Adelaide looking to experience as many restaurants as we can, curtly dismissed. They were busy, and probably under pressure but nothing in my view can ever excuse such boorish behaviour.

Best pizza ive had in years! The base was perfectly cooked, with amazing taste. The pasta was delicious as well, the service and atmosphere was great. Staff were great and very friendly. Will definitely be back before i have to go back to brisbane! The breakfast here is also amazing! Never had a breakfast calzone but I was so impressed with mine, the veal was tender and my partners meal was very impressive also. Will be back for dinner tonight :)

A favourite for pizza and pasta, this bustling Italian trattoria is always noisy and atmosphere filled. Reminiscent of my travels in Rome, it's a very authentic feeling restaurant. Would recommend.

I was happy from the start, they had no tables but where able to sqeaze us in and provide Excellent service and excellent food. The speed at which they were able to get high quality food out was excellent.

For a hungry man get the pizza or pasta!!
Overall a great experience.
Thank you
Nippon Daria
This place serves decent Italian food at a reasonable price. Service is good, especially considering they are almost always flat out. Their pasta is the best (better than the pizza) although quite heavy and rich (always feel fuller than usual afterwards even though the portion sizes are normal for me but must be the ingredients). Very yummy though and rarely disappoints.

Amalfi is a little Adelaide treasure. A beautiful hole-in-the-wall that feels alive with conversation and eating and drinking. It's proper Italian food made by people who love food.

The pasta is the stand out, and probably more worthwhile than the pizza. Plus, when you're in a cozy little brick restaurant, eating pasta seems like a fitting thing to do.
Buongustaio 091
Amalfi is one of those places where you're always satisfied when you walk out, is probably an icon in Adelaide.
Pasta and main courses are delicious, pizza nothing special, dessert just fine.
FooDee
I absolutely love Amalfi! Timeless, delicious hearty food. I came in earlier this week for a Christmas lunch and loved it, yet again. My prawn pasta was perfectly cooked and very fresh! All other dishes looked amazing and everyone was very happy with their food. The service was fast and attentive.
An institution. Highly recommended!

It was a busy night with a dark and rushed ambiance. Service was provided but multiple waiters/waitresses this our order was confused and mains came out along with appetizers. Food was average with nothing outstanding. If you do order the anti-pasto dish to start, it's a lot bigger than you think!
Colin Lochrie
What an absolute gem! Has to be one of the best restaurants in Adelaide. Always busy for a reason, it's just bloody good food. If you've never been here, do yourself a favour and make a booking. Good spot, great staff and even better food.
Thefaeriecupcake
Amalfi is our go-to Italian restaurant. We absolutely love their amalfi pasta with chilli cream sauce. I had that earlier this week and we just had take-out again! It's addictive. The staff were always friendly and very helpful! All in all, an amazing place to spend your weeknights.

Went for dinner with some friends on the weekend. As usual food was great & service was good. One let down only, they now charge a surcharge if you want to pay with a credit card. When I asked the waitress 'WHY' she couldnt explain it. Looks like profiteering in my opinion.
Angie-Marie Piantadosi
love this place! it's always super busy so you must book but without a doubt the food is always great! highly recommend their pizza and pastas!

Amalfi is our go to place if we want an extra delicious lunch treat and we have the time. Can't go past their pizzas or classic pasta options. I've never seen it quiet and the staff are cheeky and fun.

I don't always eat Italian food, and this was the first time I ever went to Amalfi. The service was top notch, being greeted by a friendly smiling waiter as soon as you walk in is a great start to every restaurant experience.

Once we ordered, we received some olive oiled soaked bread for a quick appetiser which was nice. The food did take a once to come out, but I guess you cant rush good food. I ordered a pasta (forgot the name) and it was pretty good. Though it did get a bit salty after a while, but thats nothing some parmesan cheese cant fix. That is amazing!

Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and I would definitely dine again if the occasion arises. Im very eager to try foods on their menu as well.

On a cold and wet night, there is nothing better than indulging in comfort food and warming ourselves up with a glass of wine. We had set our minds on having an Italian feast, but sadly our favourite restaurant was undergoing renovations. If it weren’t for the recommendation by a sales assistant, we never would’ve tried Amalfi Pizzeria Ristorante.

On a cold and wet night, there is nothing better than indulging in comfort food and warming ourselves up with a glass of wine. We had set our minds on having an Italian feast, but sadly our favourite restaurant was undergoing renovations. If it weren't for the recommendation by a sales assistant, we never would've tried Amalfi Pizzeria Ristorante.

From a distance, Amalfi looked like a small dingy restaurant. It was hard to spot and we doubted whether or not we should choose another restaurant. But the sales assistant was very convincing, so we decided to give it a go. We were surprised that such a small restaurant was fully booked out, but fortunately we were able to get 90 minutes to dine since it was still early in the night. Upon entering, we were surprised to see how cosy the atmosphere was. It looked like a traditional Italian family had turned their home into a restaurant. All the staff were so very friendly, and welcomed us with big smiles.

There were several types of dishes to choose from on the menu, but not too much that it was overwhelming. The most important part of the menu were the mains to choose from which consisted of pizzas, pastas, risotto, and a range of other types of meats and seafood cooked in Italian style.

We were under the pump with our time restraint and so we both picked the first thing that appealed to us: Amatriciana and Zingarella.

Amatriciana (left): spaghetti pancetta onion capsicum peas chicken stock chilli garlic basil. Main: $25.00 Entree $21.00
Zingarella (right): linguini capsicum onion broccoli basil prawns chilli honey butter stock sauce. Main: $28.50 Entree $26.50

We had our mains with a side of salad and topped with generous amounts of parmesan and chilli oil. Both pastas were cooked al dente and the flavour perfectly coated each strand. The one thing she liked about the Amatriciana was the fact that the amount of vegetables and pancetta were equal and in proportion with the pasta. Often some restaurants have very little meat and vegetables accompanying the pasta. The sauce was not overpowering and you could taste only a hint of garlic. The main thing that enhanced the flavours in this dish was the saltiness of the pancetta which balanced out the flavours of this spectacular dish.

One thing he loved about his dish, the Zingarella, were the generous amount of prawns! Prawns are quite expensive, and in most Italian restaurants they only serve on average 3 prawns per dish. However it felt like Amalfi's sole focus was pleasing their customers with their generosity. The prawns were very fresh and not at all rubbery. There was no need for him to proportion the ingredients on his plate and the chef had already perfected it. He has never been to Italy, so he wouldn't know how traditional this dish was, but who cares, the dish tasted great! The pasta was coated in honey giving off a sweet kick to the dish. The sauce was quite creamy but it was not sickening, nor was it watery. The broccoli was not over cooked and still had that crunch, complimenting the dish. It was so good she ate all his broccoli.

Overall, we very impressed with Amalfi and feel guilty that we had doubts about this restaurant at first sight. If you're feeling like pasta and want to taste some creative dishes, definitely give Amalfi a go. You definitely won't be disappointed.

His and her rating: 8.25/10

Pasta and pizza are not bad I would rate the pizzas to try pasta is ok had the puttanesca was expecting to be really good from so many people talking highly of the place but found it average. It a very small venue so expect to book

A must for a preshow feed before seeing comedy at Rhino. A favourite amongst celebrities for a quality pizza. The service is fantastic. Clap Clap.

Good Italian food and wines. Generous servings, tasty and fresh. I've eaten here twice, five years apart, and both experiences were very very good
JoeCanna
Not worth the money, had the steak supposed to be 400grams it was half the size and tough . kids ordered the pizza which came after the steak and it was overloaded with toppings for a Margherita . I won't be back

I have been going to Amalfis for over 10 years and each time I have been there it's consistently good. One of my all time favourite restaurants!
Nicholas Tsoukaris
just visited Adelaide Cbd business don't even hesitate going to Amalfi in Frome st

great portion , great taste, great location, great staff

one main is plenty for all people love it !

Not very impressed with my first time dining here. We waited half an hour for someone to take our orders and when our food finally arrived the $6 herb bread we ordered turned out to be one bread roll, my partners $31 steak which he asked to be cooked medium was dripping with blood. The $25 chicken I ordered was a big bowl of baby spinach and 3 minuscule pieces of chicken. The restaurant was terribly over priced for what it was. Would not be eating here again and needless to say we left still hungry.

Great pasta. An old favourite for pasta! When I feel like a good serve of pasta, Amalfi is always a place I think about.
GhostMutt
Ordered the risotto off the specials board which was almost inedible really bland and pancetta so thick and fatty I barely touched it. My partner had the marinara pasta and said it was bland also but generous on seafood and plenty of it. Staff very friendly though so I wouldn't like to complain but definitely won't be going back :(
Sarah
I love Amalfi! I've been going there for at least 15 years and I must have eaten a bath tub worth of their Zingarella pasta! It's the best!
Hamdogmil18
Come for the pizza. Fantastic pizza, very ordinary pasta. Food was authentic and neatly presented. Coffee was very decent but had limited beverages although there was a large selection of beers. The restaurant is always packed and noisy mostly because of the small space and the open kitchen, but that is not a negative experience to many. The waiters are all friendly and thoughtful considering the cramped conditions. I felt the items were slightly over priced and the servings too little and too much. 7.5/10
The Palmyra Foodie
Very Good with a touch of Chaos. So, this was my third or fourth time at this place and the experience is pretty consistent: it's always packed, service is friendly but can be patchy if you are expecting a seamless dining experience. Sometimes, you get lots of attention and sometimes, not so much.

The food has always been really good. Nothing that has blown my mind but then, it isn't that sort of place. It's the sort of place that goes beyond the safe Italian favorites but still plays the traditional hand. I'll give you one example: hand cut char grilled local calamari salad. Calamari is the proverbial canary in the mine - too often a visual representation of corner cutting by restaurants when you get the dreaded pre-cut imported calamari rings. Not here. Big chunks of local calamari, cut into decent sized pieces in a simple Italian salad. The specials board is always worth a crack in my mind and tends to have the edgier selections.

Solid wine and beer list and also BYOB if you want to. The bill was reasonable and the mark up on the wine about 2 times retail, so pretty good.

So come here in a relaxed mood, expect a little chaos, enjoy the fun vibe and eat some excellent Italian food.

Disappointing experience. Our party of 5 dined here on 5th April, 2015. Although some of our choices of dishes were relatively tasty, the staff of Amalfi really need to understand that customers don't like being taken advantage of regarding the price. I ordered a spinachi pizza, however, being vegetarian, I asked for the salami and the pancetta to be removed and replaced with red pepper. Nick agreed and the pizza was served with replacement pepper. However, when I paid for my meal, Nick insisted that despite having the salami and pancetta removed, I still had to not only pay for the meats which I did not receive nor consume, but he also insisted I pay an additional cost for the red pepper which was agreed upon in place of the salami and pancetta. This is not good customer relations and nor is it fair to insist a customer pay for something they did not receive nor consume - and then apply the additional insult of requiring payment for what was in fact an agreed replacement item of far less value than the original two toppings.
No point in our family booking an upcoming 21st birthday celebration originally intended to be held at this restaurant because we now know that the staff appear to have no regard for fair treatment of its customers.

Good service, pretty ordinary spaghetti marinara. Ok but overpriced.

Amazing Food, Amazing Service. Wonderful service, that made me feel welcome and very inclined to stay. Even though they were very busy, the staff were very attentive and wanted to please the customer fully - offering water, drinks, pepper, parmesan, etc.
If you're looking for delicious pasta, pizza or garlic bread you need to come here!
Amjones123
Great food and service, just rushed us to leave.. Had a couple of pizzas here pre fringe show. They were filling up and getting busy when we arrived at 6pm on a Sat as you would expect. Very pleasant staff and lots of them so service is pretty quick. Love the fact you can see the kitchen in the restaurant. Great food and a really good atmosphere. Loved it right up until the point we were just finishing our drinks ready to leave and we're basically told they needed the table. Spoilt what was a great experience and we would have been out in a couple of minutes anyway.
Frankiecarbone93
Amazing pasta possibly the best in adelaide. The food is always amazing here the service is fantastic with the exception of the older guy with long greasy hair that is always behind the register. Almost everyone I know thinks he is a complete ass, on the other hand the owner is an awesome guy so it balances out.
Charlene Samuel
Pizza crusts are too thick for my taste

Food was great, service was amazing!. From making the booking to paying the bill - in one word - faultless! The food was great and meals were generously sized. Our waiters were very efficient. Great to see a team that works so well together!

Pizza is great here. My husband and our kids have been here twice now and have enjoyed the lovely pizza. Will be back for more.

Great food excellent service. A very busy night for the restaurant but great service and excellent food
We will return!

We had an amazing dinner on our way to the movies.
Quick service, fabulous staff and the food took us back to Italy.

Usually gr8 service, very disappointed. A regular Friday night gem for pizza with a friend, usually fantastic service, tonight the wheels fell off, let's hope just a blip.

Ordered the amatriciana and it was pretty bland, oily and boring. But unlike a previous reviewer who left a bad review ordering the same dish, I also tried their marinara linguine from one of the people in my group. I'd go so far as to say it's the best marinara I've ever tasted and I've been to many italian restaurants in sydney!

Atmosphere is there and staff were friendly! Would definitely go back here when I return to adelaide :)

Pizza was also pretty nice
Moo
Love this place! Best seafood marinarer in town. Ever though we might only go a few times a year we're never disappointed. The staff and the service have always been fantastic and it surprises me to hear otherwise in other reviews.
Can't wait till we get back again soon :)
Food
Overrated. Used to be good but fallen far since then.
Rude staff left a bad taste after our dinner and we won't ever be back.
Claire Lillian
Amalfi has always been a good experience. The pizzas are not the best I've ever had, but they're definitely not the worst. For a relaxed dining experience, it's not too bad a choice.
AL
Overrated. Food is good but definitely not the best. But the pompous waiters really ruin it for me. Not a fan!
ZJ
Good food, terrible service. We booked for a group of seven. The food was great, although price was a bit on the higher side. But, some staff were indifferent and rude. Rather than asking to move a plate politely, she just said "are you sharing? What's going on here?" I understand the place was busy, but that was unnecessary. Plus, another staff kept asking for dessert and made you feel like you need to leave quickly after finishing meals
Ellie Neindorf
Although they double booked our reservation, throughout the night they continued with the best service I've experienced in an Adelaide restaurant. Service was friendly, accommodating and punctual. The pizza was also the most delicious I've had in Adelaide.
MouthZilla
Very good Italian. If you're dining for two then the seafood marinara to share and the spinaci pizza is possibly one of the best dinner combinations in Adelaide!
Italian
Disappointed. Terrible service lets this once fine restaurant slide in the completely forgettable category. There is always a place for good Italian food but these guys aren't that any more. Avoid
Charry
Terrible service. The food was ok price average but the service was terrible. After waiting a long time and indicating we were ready to order we were ignored whilst the staff milled around. Had to get up from the table a number of times to ask for service. Worst I have experienced!!
Julie
Very disappointed with service. Food was nice but had to request service to order and get drinks etc. waiters were floating around talking to other diners and topping up their drinks but completely ignoring our table. If it had been a busy night I would have made exceptions for waiting but it wasn't overly busy. Felt ostracized by the waiting staff but then when realized the owner was part of the waiting staff and was doing the same thing was very disappointed. I have travelled overseas at bit in recent times and have never received service like this and am upset to see it happening in my home town as what sort of welcome are we giving to our visitors of our state. Food and service is one if the things we are very proud if it. Pull your socks up Amalfi !!!!!
Daniel
Never, ever eat at this "bistro" I made the mistake of dining there last night. None of the original owners/staff remain and not an Italian in sight. The worst, rudest service EVER. The head waiter/ owner is an arrogant jerk. We had to ask for service, then approach the "master" each time our wine, entree, main course was preposterously late. We were then met with indignation and more ignoring. When we paid in cash, he didn't give us any change and assumed we giving him a 25% tip, I had to ask for the change. The food was ok but the experience was garbage. I've rarely felt so insulted.
Samuel Tippett
Started the experience quite well and spiraled into a sham . Waiting staff seemed to care less about serving our table until we approached the front counter multiple times. Food was very slow to table but was quite nice . Seems like we had to approach staff every time for any service . Have left with a disappointing night and will not be dining there again . The manager should hang his head in shame .Had heard good things and was looking forward to a great night but left slightly disturbed . 4/10

After a morning at the zoo, we decided to stop by Amalfi for lunch, given the high ratings. Good heavens it was a mistake.

We were shown to our tables after a fair bit of waiting. I'd say probably 2 minutes of standing at the door.

After that, we were given menus. And that was it. We picked our meals, and were willing to spend $70 between the two of us. We wanted to give them our money. We were hungry.

But did they take any notice of us? Nope. The two waiters floated around talking to the other diners, topping up drinks, but never glancing in our direction.

We were a bit impatient at this stage but decided to wait a little longer. It was the last straw when the waiter went to another table, who'd arrived 5mins after us and took their order. What the heck?

Is it because we were the only asians at the restaurant? I felt ostracized as they put us near the wall on one side of the room, away from the other diners. It was not a pleasant experience. Is this racism or am I just being over sensitive? But all these small details have accumulated to something which makes me come to no other conclusion than the people working at Amalfi are racist.

We were very unhappy with this experience and it put a sour taste on our nice visit to Adelaide.
Kat
Yuuuum. The ragu and puttanesca are both so delicious. The amalfi pasta looked incredible too. Fresh and fast. Tad expensive but the portions fill you up!
Pete
Overrated and over priced, everything is old but not rustic. Too noisy.Decent pizza , but pastas are worse than homebrand. Amalfi used to be a nice restaurant ,but now nothing but the local asians' favorite diner.
Cravat Head
Superb!. Brilliant!
Loved the little things, open kitchen to see the chefs doing there thing, working hard.
Con Pollo was rich but beautiful! Kudos to whoever thought to put thigh chicken in it rather than breast! Perhaps more chicken less pancetta tho. 9.5/10.
Wife's Zingerella, nice subtle honey flavour. 8.5/10
Liked the bunch of herbs on the counter that the staff pick from to put on the meals.
Warm, cosy intimate place which I'll be back to, to try the pizza.... looked yummy!
Andrepert
Always good. Pricey but worth it.

Italian place..really???. How Aussie people can really believe this place is the right place to be for a real Italian experience? Food is just far away from being similar to the Italian. Amalfi..are you serious???
Cass Lohmeyer
I've always held Amalfi to a high standard as my favourite pizza bar, but I will not be returning after our experience on Saturday night.
The food, ok
The wine, great once we finally got it (having prompted the staff numerous times),
The service, appalling. Yes Amalfi is a cafe, and a busy one at that but you would think that "oh it's Saturday night and we're busy" would have been an issue for a brand new cafe. This is the excuse we were fed throughout the evening. The staff spilling wine on my partner, forgetting orders, and just being rude.
We were at the point of walking out.mI'm sorry Amalfi, you used to be great. Now I won't waste my time or money.
JFoodLover
An Adelaide institution.. Order the permanent special, spaghetti and meatballs. Don't ask. Just order. Oh and the garlic bread is to die for. If you don't book then you might be lucky to get a table outside, but if you want to sit inside then booking ahead is a must.
Food_critic
Rude staff. Went in a couple days before my birthday to ask if it was possible to cater for a small group. They just laughed at me. So I left and have held a grudge since :)

Top marks!. I always get the awesome Amalfi Special Pizza when in Adelaide! top marks here!
Peterlasos71
Tasty pizza. Love the taste of Amalfi Pizza.Great food, service and atmosphere. Perfect for a special place to eat Italian and also to have pizza made in wood oven. Will be back again.
Daniella
Ageing restaurant trading on past glory days. I love Adelaide and often visit for the Fringe etc. Locals often mention this place as a go to, bit after several tries I'm motivated to write and encourage them to lift their game. Unchanging boring menu, clangy noisy acoustics and wait staff that seem to have tickets on themselves like something out of Absolutely Fabulous... Its just a pizza joint dudes. Deliver better food and service or become the next Cibos: popular only with those who havent travelled or experienced better. Australia does food better than this!
Holly Persico
They're baaaack. After dining a few times a year on a regular basis at Amalfi and always loving it, the last few times I went I was pretty disappointed in the quality of the meals BUT, a group of us went on Sunday night and we all loved it -our comments were, "yay! Amalfi's is back!" We all had pasta. The serves were generous, the pasta and the sauce cooked to perfection and the flavour was excellent. Hooray!
Chriseichbaum
Superb. Waiting staff with personality and style and the best Italian I have had (and at 58 years of age, I've had a few) - superb putanesca. Bravo!
Zhivana Mitanov
Lorissa is fabulous. She is an exceptional addition to the amalfi experience. Impeccable service, great attitude! I'm so glad that my friend and I were lucky enough to have her serve us. Fantastic xx Definitely will be back xx
Andi
Food very nice, but staff and service not great. First waitress was very moody and clearly didn't want to be working. Then older waiter was incredibly rude to me at the table. Wouldn't recommend...

Fantastic service and yummy food :)

Good Italian. Excellent Pizzas that offer good value. Some really good vegan options which is nice. The pasta was great and the service staff were very friendly.
Nikki
Great food and atmosphere would certainly recommend
Ted Van
I organised a work dinner here and the food was excellent. in fact I sit here eating what I couldn't last night while I write this. The only downside was that it was very loud but that is to be expected on a Friday night in the city . The wait staff were very friendly and helpful . If I had to offer an advice it would only be that perhaps one or two less tables to give slightly more room to move over all a wonderful meal
Mini Mi
Worse service ever!!! I will not go again! Have plenty of in door seats available but not willing to give to us. Told us only out door seatings are available, next couple came in and asked for indoor seating ..Then another staff gave indoor seats to them ! I asked the manager why and he only said he didn't know , and i asked the other staff and he said I wasn't in your conversation and I can't ask them to leave now. Seriously this is ridiculous. Please do not go ever again. They food are not as good as before as well. So salty.
Dave Bracken
After the first time we were belittled for thinking we could walk in without a reservation we came back with one. I'm not sure what is so fantastic about this place? We had pizza and pasta which was perfectly good. Not great.
Hungrykitteh
An Adelaide Institution. Having dined here a few times over the years, there's a reason why people keep coming back and the buzzing restaurant is always packed.
Amalfi make honest, unpretentious Italian food that is packed with flavour.
The portions are incredibly generous (seriously, go an entree size for the pasta. This coming from a girl that can EAT) and the service is attentive, polite and efficient.
There is a wonderful cheery, busy atmosphere, which often leaves me looking inside longingly on warm Summer evenings.
Oh, and always a treat to see the elderly owner standing by the kitchen for most of the night, overseeing the whole operation.
Bravo, Amalfi!
Neen
Never order the chicken salad because I don't think they wash their lettuce properly. Their pizzas and pastas are good, but in this day and age service is what matters and I frankly don't get much from this place due to their service issues. If you like their food and don't care about service then you will be fine
Inigo
Busy, loud, exciting!. First time at Amalfi on Friday night (after an Italian film festival movie, natch). This place is loud, crazy busy and exciting, lots going on all at once! Service was excellent given how busy the restaurant was. We had the margarita pizza and the ragu, both were very nice, large portions, great honest comfort food done well. Had a very enjoyable time - this is not the place to come if you're looking for hushed conversation, romantic candlelight or obsequious waiters though.
Caitlin Lawless
Tonight I had possibly the worst restaurant experiences of my life at Amalfi. The staff were not only rude but we were made to feel as though we were inconveniencing them by eating there.
The food was average but was tainted by the treatment we received. I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone who wants to have a good night out and feel welcome in a venue. Lift your game Amalfi!
Hambishambis1967
Whatza Matter With You?. What's-a matter you? Hey! Gotta no respect.
What-a you t'ink you do? Why you look-a so sad?
It's-a not so bad, it's-a nice-a place. Aww Shut Uppa Your Face!!!
Why??
Because it's a good like a Mama used to make!!!

OMG so good!. So I am a regular here and there are obvious reasons for this. The food is exceptional and the venue is lovely. A definite must visit

Killer con pollo with a pizza chaser. The best.

Great food, not so great service. I have been to this restaurant a half a dozen times, and it is solely the food that keeps me coming back! Being from the US, this is one of the only local places that makes pizza that is similar to what I can get back home, and its just outstanding! But despite the delicious food, I still feel get a bit anxious about eating here sometimes because on several occasions the staff has not been the friendliest. They have been quite rude and condescending, made us feel like we were inconveniencing them, and made it clear that they wanted us to hurry up and finish so they could give our table to someone else, even though we made a booking well in advance. Instead of being a relaxing meal, it always feels a bit stressful, which has made me more reluctant to eat here. It's unfortunate the staff brings the place down...
Safiyyah Abbas
Great Italian food. It isn't difficult to see why this cosy Italian restaurant is always so busy, no matter what day of the week.
Friendly staff, quick service, but most importantly great Italian food - the garlic bread was fresh and tasty, pizza was perfectly cooked (thin crispy crust, not too oily, generous toppings), and the linguine was flavoursome without being too heavy.
Will definitely dine here again.
Nickie.key
Good place. Food is pretty good and the service is quite good.
Simon Baker
Some deep thoughts.... If you love your tremendously authentic Italian pizza with puffy edges, good elasticity and a speckled, charred bottom Amalfi is definitely not for you.

But if you prefer a traditional Chicago deep dish pizza then the thick, oily, crunchy crust with salty goodness on top may be for you.

The pasta was big and filling but totally lacking in taste, flavour and any other redeeming qualities.

Good, efficient service but overrated and a pricey.
Disappointed
Havent eaten here yet but afraid to.
called up to make a booking was put on hold. Lovely guy. 5 to 10 mins later no one answered I hang up. 30 mins later I call back, nice girl was put on hold (meanwhile without realising that I could hear them. "Put them on hold for 5 to 10 and see if they stick around". "Okay, do we have to hold them?" "No hahha!") 5 mins later I get hung up on! I call back diff guy altogether answers the phone told him I was hung up on and the conversation I heard in the background. He said sorry! And was put on hold whilst he told the others off (for possibly speaking to loud? Or for hanging up?) And instantly got a booking. And after reading some of the reviews about the service...I don't know if I should cancel it...at the last min! Haha
MrCreosote
Went again, good food great service. Not the place for a quiet romantic meal. With friends for a good meal, it is great.
Good find, would consider again. Busy, Noisy Italian.
Was taken here by a friend and was very pleasantly surprised. Very busy, but service was attentive.
Food was great, price on the expensive side, but probably worth it.
definitely geared towards a good quick meal rather than a long dining experience.
David
Great pizza. Everytime I go with my family, I end up feeling so full.. Just like their pizzas so much. Everything is fresh and the flavours are great.. Just that I feel the pasata are with loads of oil than the usual.. other than that this place is always of our liking..
Kerri
You can't go wrong with a pasta dish at Amalfi. But my favourite is the Meatball Spagetti.

Excellent and highly attentive service in a restaurant that is always packed.

It's always busy and loud, which is a part of the whole experience, but don't take old punters there - they won't hear anything you say!

I had the worst experience with service and I found the meal no less than repulsive. Never again!

Loved it. I went with my colleagues a couple of times. Amazing food. I love Pizza and pasta and I figured that this was just the right place for me.

They use fresh ingredients and the flavors are awesome.

Best pizza in Adelaide (but book in advance!). I have been to Amalfi's many times since coming to Adelaide and it is by far the best pizza I've tasted, in Adelaide or otherwise! Combine that with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and very reasonable prizes and you've got a winner!

Best to book a few days in advance as it does get very busy in the evenings but it's worth making the effort.

With Amalfi, it's always much safer to make a reservation prior. I've been twice on a Friday night and on both occasions, I only managed to get a place by 8. It gets crowded reallty quickly and sometimes, you won't get the best spots but the food has always been excellent. Had the chicken montecello and I must say, best chicken dish I've had in a long time. If you pop by and you're looking for that perfect main to fill you up without making you too full, this dish is an absolute winner!
The Two Tasters
Great staff and service with very good honest food in a vibrant atmosphere. Went there two nights in a row whilst visiting Adelaide and busy on both nights despite being week nights.

Amazzzzing pasta and pizzas!! Love this place and staff were great too!! Zingarella pasta and amalfi pizza was awesome! Big generous serves!! A must go!!
Monique
My boyfriend and I went to Amalfi on Tuesday night and overall was pretty disappointed. We ordered the con pollo and Amalfi pasta (main sizes) and we struggled to get through it, not just the generous sizes but we found the sauce very thick, oily and heavy. It was such a disappointment, specially cause we only had a few mouthfuls of it and then had to leave the rest. I didn't see a big problem with staff on my experience but it did take quite a while for our plates to be cleared and for the food to be brought out to us.
Lizzie
Fabulous food and atmosphere. The owner was particularly helpful and really knows his food and wine. Thanks for a superb meal.
Kylie
Disgusting staff, incredibly rude and arrogant. Food was ok but so overpriced. Restaurant was far too small and people couldn't get out from their chairs because you are surrounded. Will never go there again, don't risk having a bad night because if this place.

I ate here at the weekend with two girlfriends and was impressed right from the get-go. Ordered the risotto special with pancetta, porcini, chicken stock + parmesan cheese and despite having more than enough, was left craving more. The consistency of the dish was spot on, unlike several others I've tried, which I found too soup-like. My friends had the 'Zingarella' and 'Amalfi' pasta dishes respectively, both of which looked great and according to them tasted just as excellent. Big shout out to the gentleman whom greeted me on arrival and provided top notch service throughout the evening, with a little humour thrown in for good measure (I believe he may have been the owner). No wonder this place is so popular!

I can't fit anymore in. This place is great to eat at. Fantastic service and food - great wine list.

I ordered the meatball special.

Krikey - couldn't fit it all in!! Huge Serves!!!

Great affordable pizzas, but always feeling pressured by the somewhat snobby waiter/manager.

Great pizzas. The seven-year old, who's a very fussy eater, never eats pizza (having lived in Canada, US, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney) unless it's Amalfi. Go figure.
Waffle
Pretty good. The food is deeee-lish, but visiting Amalfi has never been a relaxing experience for me - you always feel like you're being pushed out the door. Oh well, I'll come back for the food.

Yummy pizza. Yummy pizza, the restaurant has been around for a long time. good place to catch up with friends when in the city. Ming Lee Fook

Rude waiter. Attempted to visit Amalfi two times in past month and was put off by bad service from same waiter. I have never encountered such rude, mocking and self-important behaviour from anyone in the hospitality industry before. I can't understand why such a lovely restaurant maintains such rude staff. I called to book the other day and was laughed off the phone)...

Definitely book early!. I love Amalfi. I have only been twice, and ordered the same thing (their basic 'ham and pineapple-esque' pizza) but I loved it. Both times I made sure to book well in advance as I knew how busy the place got, and it was also earlier than normal dinnertime, say around 6-6.30. This was a good idea. There were only a few others in the restaurant, and we had undivided attention from our waiters in both sittings. Staff were very friendly and personable. The only fault I had for the second time was the garlic bread we had ordered did not come out. I think our waiter had forgotten to write it down. We had been having a good chat with him at the time, so I suppose it slipped his mind. My dad was a bit annoyed but I didn't mind so much as he was very apologetic and brought some out right away. The pizza was very tasty, loved the flavours. I must come back here and try something else soon.

Wonderful heavy Italian food. Not a place to come when after a light meal. But like an Italian grandmothers hug this food will warm you up! Wonderful seafood dishes!
Marina
Overrated. Went tonight with my gifriend and was let down after hearing all the hype. You can barely move in there and can't even hear one another speak. After finishing our mains it took 45 minutes for our plates to be cleared. The service is less than poor unless you are with a big group of people but because it was two of us we felt like we had to send a flare to get any sort of attention. It also cleaned out the bank account- so over priced. Wouldn't return unless I was forced

Not quite sure what all the fuss is all about.... I may have come into this restaurant with too high of an expectation and therefore set myself up for disappointment. The atmosphere of the restaurant has a very rustic and classic feel to it however it is always generally busy and chaotic. I came in with my partner and another friend of ours and we were lucky enough to be able to get a table without booking. Once seated we were greeted by a very friendly waitress gave us our menus and told us to call her up once we had decided what we wanted.

Once we had decided it was rather hard to get anybody's attention to order as they were all running around serving meals/taking down other orders. Once we eventually managed to grab a hold of someone we ordered our food which consisted of two types of pasta and a salad. The food came out relatively quickly and the servings were quite large however as far as taste goes, it definitely wasn't anything special. The pasta seemed of higher quality to that of Fasta Pasta and the likes however the improvement wasn't substantial enough to justify the price difference.

Overall a good experience and I will go back there again to try the Pizza's that are all so famous there, however with that said, i'm in no particular rush.

I walked in with high expectations because everyone else I knew who had eaten here said it was good and it was apparently "one of the best pizza restaurants on Adelaide". I ordered the Margherita pizza while my friend ordered one of their fettucine pastas. My pizza wasn't great. It was salty. Perhaps from too much olives. Below average. Wasn't flavoursome. Didn't taste all that great. I could get a much better pizza at one of the other restaurants down Rundle for cheaper. Might come back but for one for their pastas because my friend loved hers but I'll steer clear of their pizzas.
Kdonks
This place served me the best Italian meal I have eaten since I holidayed in Italy, without a doubt. The Amalfatina pasta was not only mammoth (main size about twice as much as I can comfortably eat) but incredibly rich, flavoursome and textured -- I would eat it every night if I could. I also tasted my partner's pancetta and mushroom risotto which was nearly as delicious, and we shared some gloriously decadent garlic bread and light Italian wine. The service was absolutely spot on, the price incredibly reasonable (only $66 all up) and the ambience warm and rustic (if you don't mind a bit of bustling restaurant noise -- the room is quite acoustic). All in all, an amazing dining experience. Run, don't walk.

Awesome. One of the best Italian food in Adelaide.
book before you go! always packed and full !
Luke
Quite a nice Italian restaurant. Had a large pizza (can't remember which one) and it was beautiful! Couldn't fit in dessert or coffee after it though... It was huge. I found the service quite good and the staff were very accommodating (we turned up with 3 extra people than we booked for). Atmosphere was great, good buzzing there and it was packed on a Monday night, so bookings essential.
Peta
I've been a regular at this place for years. Called up to make a reservation today and could not believe the way I was spoken to. This hasn't been the first time this has happened when making a reservation. Really reconsidering if I will come here again.
Benerdigo
Great food, great Rundle St atmosphere, awesome food, big servings and very reasonably priced. Can't go wrong.
Rach
Wasn't very good pizza. Over rated and over priced. Doesn't live up to hype.
Will never return. Spend your money somewhere half decent!
Coco-1224
Very average, and not in a good way. After hearing rave reviews about Amalfi's I had set my hopes high, but they were soon to be crushed. I can see why people like this restaurant - great atmosphere and very friendly staff, but the food was very disappointing. The menu was quite limited - mostly everything either had olives, anchovies, or chillies. I ordered a ragu' which wasn't horrible, but wasn't great either. It was way too hot too eat, and when it cooled down I started to notice the overcooked, tough meat, and a strange flavour to the sauce. It didn't taste off or bad, it just wasn't that great. I also ordered a garden salad which had WAY too much balsamic, to the point where it burnt my mouth (I'm still in pain!). My sister ordered salt and pepper squid, which she couldn't finish because it was too salty, and dad ordered scaloppine, which wasn't bad but also was salty. Overall, I probably wouldn't return. There are much better italian places that serve the same purpose - Brunelli's on rundle street, or cafe Buongiorno on the parade. I'd pick one of these two over Amalfi's any day. Maybe for a western palate this food would be okay, but I've grown up with Nonna's cooking and expect better italian!
Lovesfood
Delicious Food But. The pizza was really quite enjoyable but the service was a tad average, it was extremely busy which i can understand is why the service was a tad average. It was almost like it was an inconvenience that you were there.
Vfritj
Amazing food. great atmosphere eve. on a monday night. huge serves of pasta. I had zingarella & it was beautifully cooked al dente. we had a great night. good value at $100 for bread, antipasti, 2 mains & 2 wines. we were spoilt for choice with the menu - we will definitely be back.
Angeline Yee
The pasta place to go. Amalfi has good, rich, thick sauces. i had a con pollo, which was really good, with surprise apricot bits in it.
their margherita pizza is AWESOME! must try
GG
Great food but appalling acoustics.
Andy Ferg
Actually the worst service in Adelaide. Please take note, if there is something wrong with your food it is your fault, not theirs, and you will be made to feel like a criminal for complaining.
Stella Stavrou
Loved it ! Great food fab wine and spectacular service. Well done. Will be back again soon
Tyler Randall
Average service, average pizza. As a few other diners have reported, my fellow diner and I were seated for quite some time - probably in excess of half an hour - with not a hint of a waiter - no food, no drinks, no water, nothing. This is reprehensible and I don't think understaffing was to blame - probably a third to a half of the seats in the restaurant were free and if you are not a cafe where people go up and order themselves then you need to be right onto this. We ended having to pull a waiter over just to make our order and even to get a jug of water.

We had a serve of garlic bread - which was of the big chunky rectangular variety, dripping oil. It didn't taste bad but wasn't as nice as the thinner sort of sliced garlic bread.

We also had a large margherita pizza between the two of us. My fellow diner wasn't particularly hungry and only had 3 of 8 slices, I had 5, and was content but not particularly full. Perhaps 2 small pizzas may be better if you're looking to get a proper feed. The margherita was nice but not particularly unique - your usual wood fire style one. I have had nicer around - in fact, about 5 minutes down the road and around the corner you could go to Est and get a nicer pizza of a similar size for less.

All in all, if it were not for the service then Amalfi would have remained on my radar for somewhere different to go for pizza, but seriously, what sort of useless restaurant doesn't take orders even for drinks for that long?
Venu Sarma
Wonderfully consistent!. I used to go to this restaurant regularly 15 years ago when I was working on North Terrace. I always ordered Scalopinne al funghi! This beautiful tender veal dish comes with spinach and roast potato and it's a real treat! I went there again this week and yes, it was the same! Thanks guys!

Venu
Steph
Great Taste. Great tasting Italian food, has a wonderful homestyle feel to it.
Can be an issue getting a table if you havent booked, but it is worth it.

Best Pizza's on Rundle.
Jennifer
Tasty Pasta. There are a lot of Italian restaurants around the city, however, we often keep coming back to this one.
I love Pasta dishes, I also like that is kind of tucked away and not on the main street.
James S
There should be an indifferent button. Amalfis is OVERRATED. Sure it tastes fairly ok, but so do $6 pizzas at the botanic. Its not as good as good life pizza. For the price you also get treated to long waits for tables AND food (! 40 mins for a pizza is a joke). Service is variable depending on the night. Atmosphere is horrible. One could call it warm. I call it loud and over crowded. Definitely not a date restaurant
Meme
I'd rather eat at home. Very disappointed in service. The rudest waiter I have ever encountered. Food was quite good, but the awful service ensured I will never eat there again. Told to leave before we had even finished eating and drinking, drinks requested not brought, friend in tears when her bank card eaten by an ATM after she rushed to get money when she had not even had more than one sip of her wine, and waiter made it obvious that her money was needed pronto.

Overrated. After seeing all the reviews on here and friends recommendations, gave it a go for lunch today. Agree with some other reviewers in sayin that our waiter was also a bit pretentious & sarcastic. Food wise, it was pricey and not worth writing home about. pizza was the tastiest dish but not enough o go back for. Also ordered lamb scallopini which had some crap packet potatoes included. Risotto also lacked in flavor and had no kick to it. Worth a shot to see what the fuss is about...or you could save your money and go elsewhere for better Italian
Chasy151
Good food, Good service. Generous servings. Tasty food. A bit crowded and loud atmosphere but if it's food you like you must try it out. Always make a booking and arrive on time or earlier.

Great Italian. Yes Book!!! You won't be disappointed.
We've had just about averything on the menu and it's perfect! Just don't turn up late your table will be gone, it's no fun outside when it's cold!!
SM
Having rocked on up to Amalfi on numerous occasions only to be turned away I avoided disappointment by booking a table. An ambient and bustling spot Amalfi serves up a mixture of pizza and other Italian fare. Our table of four didn't have the pizzas or pastas but went for the more substantial sounding mains. Good food but not great. Maybe their pizzas would have been the better choice?
Sam Giles
Personal favourite!. Amalfi. What an amazing place. Quite possibly the best Italian food in Adelaide. The Amalfi pasta has got to be one of my all time favourite dishes, fantastic texture and flavour - simply superb! Staff are always attentive and helpful and its in a prime location.....highly recommended!

Great busy vibe. Tasty awesome Italian food. Great pizza among many other things. A must.

Just like Nonna's home... As much as I enjoy fine dining, casual, relaxed dining is as much enjoyable!!

Noisy, squishy and rushed, yet its so rustic with the open kitchen in the corner.

Great food, atmosphere and an all-time fav!!

Absolutely fabulous. Everything was perfect - food was spectacular, service was quick and unintrusive, wine list spot on.

Consistently fantastic. Everytime I go to Amalfi's I am never let down. I always receive excellent service from Darran, and the food is consistently fantastic.
My favourite place to eat in Adelaide, and I would have to say the best pizza's I have ever eaten.
Can't wait to go again, and again, and again....
Don't rock up without a booking, or you may be disappointed!
Food_envy
Very busy authenic Italian well worth the money. Great pizza and pasta also try the veal

Great atmosphere - feels like Italy. Excellent service. Authentic Italian food. Fantastic place to eat after an East End movie. Usually very crowded.

Disappointing. My friends and I a earnt a booking at Amalfi's some two weeks ago, after trying for a couple of weekends. From working in hospitality for a number of years, I understand and appreciate good service, but from eating at Amalfi's a fortnight ago - I was left thoroughly under-whelmed and disgusted. My companions and I were told to 'go have a coffee' (somewhere else) while our table was apparently 'not ready.' Then after finally being seated some 35 minutes later, a male staff member insulted one of our company when she merely asked for an extra plate for her pizza. The food was seemingly adequate, but while getting up to leave the restaurant - a staff member snidely stated ' I've asked you a hundred times to move,' with an expression emphasising his uncouth demeanour. Overall I was was thoroughly unimpressed from the occasion, and will not be returning again. In a city boasting a plethora of Italian cuisine, Amalfi's hospitality-or lact there of wont be forgotten.
Fish
Great food. All the dishes that came out of the kitchen looked do good. The amalfi pizza was very good. The eggplant for entree was a big serve and was great. They also serve foccacia bread with olive oil and balsamic complimentary. Very busy place and it delivers easily!
LeDude
It is what it is. Amalfi is the safe place to go when u want an agreeable meal.
It's not the best Italian restaurant in Adelaide, but it doesn't claim to be...
Andrew Newsham
Too much hype. Have heard a lot about this place and was looking forward to trying it out. It was busy even for a tuesday, however there were visibly several tables for two that were vacant.
As we walked in, we were advised to stand at the "bar" until a table became available.
After about 5-10 minutes of waiting at the bar (which is actually a walkway to the toilets and no drinks were offered to us while standing here) we approached the waiter who asked us to stand there and he had totally forgotten about us and had seated another couple who had walked in after us with no reservation. His excuse was he was back from leave and "tuesdayitis".
Overall food was average, however definitely not good value for money and the service was below par.
Miss DV
Went there tonight for a birthday and really enjoyed the food and service. Very busy, which I love as it shows me the food is good if people keep coming! Prices were a bit expensive but worth it.
Karen O'Daly
Fantastic food, great service. Large serves. One of my favourite places to eat.

Home to the beautiful people. Had dinner with a work colleague the other night at Amalfi and it was pretty good without being great. Ordered the steak medium rare, and it came out closer to rare, but was still nice. Should have stuck with pizza or pasta! Service was friendly, however we were stuck on a table close tonthe door which wasnt ideal. It wws however unbelievably busy for a tuesday nite so i would suggest booking if you are under time pressure. Dining room was noisy as others have written, but it wasnt over the top. Prices were slightly on the expensive side but having come from melbourne, it didnt bother me. Final note...the crowd....i dont know why, and bears no relevance to the food, but the feamle patrons in this place are all gorgeous....good on ya girls!

Long one of my favorite Adelaide restaurants, my last experience at amalfi lived up to all expectations. The service was friendly fast and informed and as usual the food was fantastic. For starters we shared some salt and pepper squid and the cozze which were super fresh, zesty and delicious. For mains we shared a saltimbocca (without a doubt the best in town!) and the special vongole which was a really generous serving as well as being succulent and tasty. Overall another yummy lovely dinner.. Thank you Amalfi!
Laura
Good pizza, but not great!. The pizza at Amalfi Pizzeria is good but not great, and isn't the best pizza in Adelaide by a long shot!! Service is poor, the dinning area is far too noisy and cramped.

All in all, it's ok, but for the best pizza you are better off at Enzo's, Melt Pizzeria or Good life pizza's.
Robbed
Wonderful place and food. Amalfi's has gained and maintained iconic status for eating out in Adelaide. You can work your way through the entire menu (I almost have) and not be disappointed in a single dish. While the blackboard specials rarely change they are all excellent. There are also a couple of items that don't appear on the menu that are well worth asking for e.g. "BBQ chilli squid" and "Focaccia number 4"! The latter is a pizza dough / mozzarella base topped with baked potato pieces, chilli and basil - just bliss. There is always something interesting / good value on the wine list.
All this is topped off with the friendliest bunch of staff going - especially given how hard they all work. Maybe I have just been really lucky in that every time I have been there they are all happening to have a good day - but I doubt it as I go there very often, and its usually busy with regulars.
Chloe
Yumm.. just yum!. There is a good reason why this place is always booked out on weekends - servings are delicious and generous and the place just had a wonderful atmosphere - not traditional italian but a more modern twist on it that is sure damn tasty!
Cath Lee
Pasta mama..mia. I love their seafood pasta. It is fresh and delicious.

Love the the ambience of its place and it's authenticity feel to it.

Truly a great Italian restaurant. My friends are absolutely loving this place!

Simple classic food(large portions) Great environment.
Jessica Shipman
This place is awesome. I've been coming here for 8 years. Food is consistently great without being ostentatious or breaking the bank. It's nearly always shoulder to shoulder and loud so if that's not your scene give it a miss. But it's got a vibrant buzz and I love the original terrazzo floor & loos! My favourite is Saltimbocca alla Romana. Great wine list too...
Elili
Thoroughly Average. My husband and I went here for dinner last weekend, and despite booking weeks in advance, like another reviewer we were made to feel like our presence was a hassle. Service was non-existant, we had to wait 15 minutes before our drinks order was taken (and that was only after we asked). Husband's drink came out after a reasonable wait, but I was asked by three different waitstaff what my order was again. I ordered the Margherita pizza, far from "best pizza in Adelaide" it was doughy, way too cheesy and lacked flavour. I'm pretty easy to please but the service (or lack there of) and plain fare has turned me off this place. Also very noisy! May give it another whirl one day, but not anytime soon.
LC
Great food, odd service. We've been to Amalfi twice, both on Friday nights, and although the food has been excellent, the service has been a bit off. Both times our waiter told us we were ordering too much food (we thought this was odd). The first time our order wasn't put in so we waited over an hour and the second time our entrees and mains arrived at the same time. We'll probably go back again, but maybe opt for the takeaway option.
Vivienne
This is a really casual place with a nice atmosphere. The service varies from great to frustrating, depending on who is staffed that day. The pizza is great, and so is the pasta. Wouldn't say I LOVE the place, but it was alright.
Adam
Fantastic value and taste.. The first thing I noticed as I walked in to Amalfi's is that the room has an authentic feel to it and there seems to be a real buzz amongst the diners.

The pizza here is probably some of the best I have ever tasted, hands down. They do not skimp on toppings, and the base has just the right amount of crispyness.

I also tried out the seafood pasta which was really delicious. The meal portions were quite generous, and hence we actually left without finishing everything off completely.

I would say that the service was probably satisfactory - the staff were quite friendly but just a little slow to come out and take our order.

Definitely will go back here again.
MJS
Weekly favourite. Probably end up here once a week when I'm in Adelaide. Always busy and noisy which is good. Love the oysters, garfish, squid, steak. Pizzas I can take or leave. Pasta is good, esp spaghetti marinara. Hmm, I seem to have a seafood theme. Good reliable food, reasonable wine list.
Steve
Never dull.... Noisy, echoey dining area. Frenetic staff. Decent Italian food. These adjectives describe Amalfi. On any given night and especially Saturdays the place is abuzz. The pasta has rustic appeal but may not be for everyone. The pizzas are up there with the best but pricey. The waiters are helpful and friendly, at least in my experience. At a loss for why Amalfi has the accolades it has since food, ambiance and service are good but nothing fantastic. The place does have an undefinable charm though which may account for it. Try it and see. PS. They do have the best Garlic Bread in Adelaide.
Joseph St Kilda
Diamond in the rough!. Amalfi is simply the best Italian in the Adelaide CBD. In a city where food and service are terrible, Amalfi is faultless. Try the Con Pollo and Zingarella Pasta!
Rogie
Great pasta. Haven't had the pizza but tried a few of their pasta's - Great work and very generous sizes!
Medstude
Rude staff. I arrived just in time for my reservation but the table was not ready. I wanted to order ahead of time so food will be ready but the staff did not appreciate that plan and made rude comments about me and my friend.
I love the food but staff should be trained to cope with high volume of people.
OCD
I was in Adelaide for the night and although I had a few places shortlisted, I came here on a local reccomendation. It's true what others have said, services is unattentive and slow, the food is below average. My entree arrived before my drink. I had to prompt for the drink. The salt n pepper squid was rubbery although two pieces of it were cooked well. The margherita pizza another reviewer raved about was plain nasty. Thick layer of tomato sauce, fake tasting crispy base. Not impressed. I left the whole thing. I can't understand why this place is so busy??? (once my card was placed in the bill it was swiftly taken)
Social_eater
They do the best margharita ever. and great pasta
John
Heard good things about this place and I finally went there the other night. Have to admitt that it was one of the most dissapointing dining experiences of my life...iv had better service and McDonalds, even they manage to be polite and reapectful most of the time let alone provide you with what you have ordered. $25 for a risotto that needed 30 shakes of salt, 4 table spoons of Parmesan to even make it palatable. If You want poor service for yourself and friends and food that would be spat on in Italy then go to Amalfi.
Hossenpfeffer
Pricey but good. The food seems to always be just right, the sound level is a bit much and so is the wait - but then again, Italy is not known for being fast on much. So when i finally delve into my plate of pasta, i can say nothing. not a word can utter a note, i simply am happy to have oodles of olive oil running out of the corner of my mouth. And then, I must take another swig of wine from my glass. Let us drink, eat and be Italian - northern of course!

Everybody Loves Amalfi!. Amalfi has been around for over 25years producing fine quality food! You know when you mention Amalfi everyone says to me "Ahh I love Amalfi, must book in this week!" Its the same every time, friendly service great food.
Trust me you have to try the Ragu Pasta, Spinachi Pizza (or Tuna love it). In house made bread its fantastic!
All my favourite wines are on the list too! Anyone who bags this place has no idea what a great restaurant is!!!!
Try it and you'll see my point!
FattiesInMelbourne
Usually good - last trip was a complete letdown. I took my partner to my hometown of Adelaide for the first time at Easter, and I really wanted him to try the food at Amalfi's because it was always consistently great when I lived in Adelaide and was a regular customer. Sadly enough, when we arrived and sat down we got treated like it was a burden for us to be there even though we made a booking. Staff in this restaurant need to take some lessons in basic customer service. Seriously lacking in professionalism and upselling skills, not to mention the basics of good table service. The food was also not as fantastic as it has been in the past - oversalty, overcooked pizza, average looking pasta and a complete lack of table service, unless you count scowling at customers as a service of some sort. Not sure I'll be coming back this time around, guys...sorry. Bring back the old Amalfi's with the good food and the seriously camp and friendly waitstaff and I'll consider it.
Am
I used to love Amalfi but our last visit was a real disappointment. Service was terrible and the much loved Ragu wasn't as good as usual. We took interstate guests after raving about it but it definitely didn't live up to our praise this time. Hopefully it was just an off night.
Zing
Good one. Have eaten there lots, so I'm a little biased. Never had a dud. It's a pumping high energy kind of place but in a good way. This is the place for food, fresh ingredients, cooked the old way. I hear they don't even have a micro wave oven and that speaks volumes. Service is personal and genuine but it is a busy place so you may have to wait for a table but there is a stream of seemingly happy customers coming and going. One word - it's all about the food. Real food.
Bee
Expect a wait for the best. No question, Amalfi offers some of the best Pizza and Italian dishes in Adelaide - and as a consequence, it is always packed, for lunch or dinner, no matter the day of the week. Book, or expect to be waiting some time for a table, or not able to be served at all.
Lauren
The most amazing garlic bread EVER! The pork and veal meatballs are to die for!!!

In Adelaide? Want pizza? This us where you should be.

No doubt about it, Amalfi has the best pizza in Adelaide. Every single person I have been there with agrees with me. Great prices, great atmosphere and great service. They also do take away.
Dusty
Love their pizza. Great little mom and pop restauraunt. Highly recommend!

Straight forward Italian food at its best. Amalfi is the first restaurant I visited upon arrival to Adelaide two years ago and it is still one of my favorites. Its menu has been the same since its opening years ago and I understand why this is the case. Every item on it tantalizes taste buds like there's no tomorrow. It is wholesome, clean and straightforward Italian. The premises is simple, small, but accomodatingly warm and never intrusive. Try sharing a pizza for starters (the spinach one), a entree size primi (risotto) and secundi, if you can handle it you won't have to dine out for days. Amalfi, a star on my list and I'm sure on many others.

Italian Frome St. June 30, 2014 At the famous Amalfi. We used to go here when I was smaller, and ate less pizza. The room is packed with diners. There's a loud hubbub, just from the density of people in here. Marinara 5/10 Spaghetti shellfish squid fish prawns crab. My very gay waiter recommends the marinara. He doesn't go as far as to say it's fabulous, but it's definitely among his favourites. I normally dodge simple dishes, but they're the mainstays at Amalfi, so they'd better be good. :) This pasta has a fairly simple flavour. It's strongly infused with all the various seafood flavours. However, it's also sweet, and softer than al dente. It very much reminds me of canned spaghetti. I'm loath to dig into the ocean graveyard at the bottom of the plate, but I do so anyway. The crab's claw I dissect is full of salty, mushy meat, which tastes much better than it sounds or looks. The torso of the crab contains more meat, but its spindly legs aren't worth dissecting. The various other pie

It's one of the best Italian restaurants. The pasta & pizza are heart-warming and authentic...

Amalfi is so good that you shouldn’t even bother trying to come here without a booking. The dining area is efficiently used at this place.

Every restaurant has an off-night, and I’m really disappointed that say that Amalfi’s on Frome Road isn’t immune to this. Let me explain. I went on a busy Friday night (booking for 12 made 5 days in advance) with some work friends. Everyone ordered pretty much straight away, food was cooked in the open kitchen and everything was brought out unceremoniously. Only they brought me a Marinara pizza when I specifically ordered the Americano. I was offered two choices – take the Marinara, or wait 8 minutes for the Americano. I made the mistake of waiting – which by the way, ended up being a wait of 15 mins, not 8. Not once was I offered complimentary bread or drinks, despite the waitress being aware that we were not sharing our meals. Not to mention, how does Americano sound even remotely similar to Marinara? And yes, I’m sure I said the right thing. I hate pronouncing Marinara (I always say “Marina” instead of “Ma-ri-ana”) so I avoid ordering it. During this time, everyone else received the

Scrumptious large Italian food, this is not a place I would come to when I feel like a light meal. The food at Amalfi is just like an Italian grandmothers hug; this food will warm you up in winter, and in summer it is a wonderful naughty treat. A favorite dish is the spaghetti marinara; although it is one of the heaviest seafood dishes I have eaten it is a favorite, with a wonderful mix of heavy tomato base with light seafood flavors of crab, mussels and fish. I have tried quite a few dishes from the menu but I always go back to the pasta, especially the seafood, as they do it so simply with wonderful flavors that you wish that you could reflect at home. Make sure you book in advance as it always packed, and note that it is quite loud inside. If noise is a problem it is sometimes a struggle to hear those around you and the outside tables are quite small. To me however, I think it is all apart of the atmosphere,

Amalfi’s is well-known in Adelaide. I don’t usually go out for Italian. Overall, Amalfi’s is a good restaurant with well made pizza and a range of pasta dishes that will keep everyone happy – as long as they like pizza. It’s not overly expensive but it’s not my usual cheap dining option either! Check it out if you like Italian

Their Amalfi Pasta is the star attraction. Egg ribbon pasta with mushrooms, pancetta in a thick chilli cream sauce. I actually get severe cravings for this dish – the sauce combined with the thick pasta is truly addictive. Be warned……the serving sizes are huge, I struggle to get through their entrée serves.
On The Chopping Board
Amalfi, one of Adelaide's famous Italian institutions is situated just off Rundle Street in the city centre. It was another Chopping Board 'family' meeting and we all thought this location would make a perfect lunch time catchup. We'd all individually been here many times, but the most recent outing was already at least a year ago. Arriving at 12pm on the dot, we were the first of their lunch customers on a Thursday afternoon. This was to be our Christmas get-together before Mirko's holiday overseas and we had lots to catch up on so we weren't in any hurry to order, however within a matter of minutes the waiter/waitresses repeatedly (4 times) asked us if we were ready to do so.

My housemate, Shannon, wouldn't stop going on about how good Amalfi Italian Restaurant is, so for a year now, I've been dying for an excuse to pay it a visit. And just how perfect was it, as the restaurant Shannon chose for her birthday dinner (yes, another one - my gorgeous housemate is spoilt!)?
I Only Eat Desserts
Despite their good food one thing I really don’t like is the service. Don’t get me wrong, they do an alright job but I don’t like the air of pretentiousness, lack of care and the inattentiveness. Sigh, can’t win them all but I still love this place/food :) Make sure you have a booking with them at least a week beforehand if you want to eat here on Fri, Sat or Sun. I would still make a booking on the weekdays but I have made a walk-in and plenty of seats were available.

The menu has all the classics and more, their Con Pollo is a must try - rigatoni pasta teamed with pancetta, mushroom, chives, apricot, pepper in a cream sauce.

I recommend making reservations for this place. Never ever rock up without one unless if you can tolerate sitting outside among the smokers and noisy cars zooming on the streets. Do check out their specials of the day and you will be amazed:)

Almalfi serves the BEST pizza ever (or at least I think so) and once you have tried it, you'll never want to eat regular pizza ever again ,

These mussels were beautiful! They were cooked perfectly, the meat was super juicy, plump and sweet. Omnomnomnom~ The best mussels I’ve had in a long time.
