Review Gaucho's Argentinian Restaurant - Adelaide

Crazy Good Experience
The taste was amazing! They were busy but we felt taken care of. Fine dining with a smile. We where very happy with our steaks and highly recommend the broccoli. We love coming here and can't wait to return again.

First visit here, plenty of tasty options. Obviously known for their steak which was cooked very well, the sides, entrees were all very good, even snuck in churros for desert. The staff were generally very good. The only thing holding back 5 stars was the price, it worked out to be about $200 pp for the night which is a bit much for me.

I don't eat meat and it was my partner's 40th birthday and i wanted him to have a special dinner.... I absolutely enjoyed the food just as much as he did; Whilst he had the 500g steak, we shared the most delicious Broccoli EVER, crisp/tasty/salty, the amazing Pear Salad and the squid. To be fair i wasn't that keen on the squid and i could have just eaten the broccoli and salad by themselves. The food was amazing, the service was so great and informative; pairing up a nice red with the steak of choice. Super quick and just an all round great atmosphere. We would have loved to give a tip, but they only take cash.... maybe there could be some other system other than cash, because i never have it on me. Thank you for having us and see you again soon!!

Came a bit hungry. Ordered the biggest steak I could see in the menu, 650 gr. Fries. Lettuce salad. San Palegrino. Affogato for desert. Food was good. Not great. Expected a bit more for the price that was charged. Service was good and well tipped. Sitting close to the door while freezing every time someone gets in or out was bothering.

Impeccable service !!! Steak cooked very nicely, definitely there’s going to be more competition for this institutional steak house.
Dan
The food was great, prices a little high and the atmosphere was okay. Staff were not wearing masks appropriately.
Simon
Great atmosphere and the service staff were lovely and attentive. However the food did not live up expectations, rather disappointing given the premium price points throughout the menu. My $67 steak was far too tough and chewy and lacking in flavour. Entree and sides similarly disappointing. Hopefully they can lift their game.

Excellent service with delicious food. The wait time was a bit longer than usual due to high number of customers.

Steak was absolutely amazing. And wife loved her chicken. Recommend this place to anyone

Best steak in SA!

I'm lucky that my local Romeos Foodland Croydon stocks Gaucho's at Home so we can enjoy their aged steaks and their chimichurri sauce at home, Delicious.

Great Restaurant. <br/>Truly Adelaide's Best Steak. <br/>Staff are professional.<br/>Service is the best. <br/>Highly Recommend.

Loved it!

Don’t get me wrong the food is cooked to perfection but there is nothing inspiring. Went here 6 years ago and came back as it was the bees knees but left disappointed tonight. Value for money just isn’t there. Service was good, wait time was over an hour but they were packed so can’t complain about that. Just lacking the wow factor for the price

Lovely service at this place. I hadn't eaten here before else i would've known to order some sides with my steak. The scotch fillet does come with banana peppers but unfortunately I'm not able to eat them. The steak was lovely but probably cooked just a smidge longer than the requested medium rare.
Asha
Food is ok .... The steak dishes are pretty good but apart from that there's not much else on the menu which makes it difficult if you don't eat beef... The staff members are a hit and miss - some nice and polite others not quite..

🍽️: 200g fillet steak, 350g porterhouse, fries, broccoli, roasted sweet potato, baked provolone cheese with mushroom <br/>👍: Entrees and sides were the highlight! Esp the roasted sweet potato and the provolone cheese with its stringy goodness, if you can make broccoli taste damn good you're onto something<br/>👎: Entrees overshadowed the mains, expected more from the steak given the price tag and after walking past the window front grill so many times; quite disappointed <br/>📝: Mains took painfully long to come out that night

I ordered the parillada mixta. I am of Argentine heritage so I thought I would try this restaurant out. The meat was very well cooked and did have a reminiscence of Argentine cuisine. However it did seem to have a European infusion to it as it lacked the smoky, salty lustre of a traditional paisano asado.
Andrew Smith
We were very disappointed. $55 for a steak with no sides, ridiculous. At this price I expected a high quality reasonably sized meal. Unfortunately it was not worth the price tag. <br/><br/>The restaurant has a small cramped and loud dining room. We really didn’t see the appeal. Far better options within a short walking distance. We will not be returning. <br/><br/>Only saving grace was the politeness and professionalism of serving staff.
Andrew Potaczek
Steak was not up to the price tag! This place use to be so much better! Roast potatoes are now chips and don't even come with the steaks, you have to pay for them and even they are not worth it. Overall prices have gone up and quality has gone down and you get less to. Never going back, unless I hear changes have been made! Also the service and waitress professalism has gone down.

Wanted to try one of the most popular restaurants on Zomato in Adelaide but was disappointed. The food was average as it lacked the flavour and taste that you'd typically expect to find in such establishments. Ordered a rib eye steak that cost $75 but have had nicer and more tender steaks for around half this price elsewhere. Will not be returning here.

Have been here ~8-10 times with many good and one bad experience. Last night was particularly disappointing as I had some business colleagues with me. The waiter was loud, brash and rude, meals were average and service was absolutely deplorable. Honestly not sure I would go back - 200g steak over cooked, took an hour to get main after entree and another 45 Mina for dessert (restaurant was half full). Very disappointing.

We were seated in the back room and it was an extremely noisy experience.  <br/><br/>The food was great however we could not hear each other speak!  <br/><br/>This is not a cheap restaurant - $50 mains with the need to purchase side orders of salad or chips.<br/><br/>The manager made no provision for the inconvenience after the waiter discussed the issue with him  <br/><br/>A very disappointing dining experience.  <br/><br/>Not recommended

Muy bien!!! We arrived with no booking and they made us very welcome. We could see what we wanted in about 20 seconds of looking at the menu and were not disappointed. Mussels and meat platter were delicious!😁

Coming from Melbourne and loving food we have eaten at some of the best restaurants..<br/><br/>Goucho's is one of my all time favourites, the food and atmosphere is absolutely fantastic..<br/><br/>Diablo oysters and steak is just divine, staff were fantastic (even charged my phone for me haha) hreat atmosphere, we ate here 2 nights out of our 4 night stay in Adelaide<br/><br/>A must.

Visited here when my fiancé and I went on holiday to Adelaide. We enjoyed our experience here and the food so much; we went twice. Second time taking good friends of ours. Starters: the spicy oysters, were amazing. The balance of heat and an explosion of flavour we wonderful. The steaks were cooked to perfection, and the sauce and sides suited and balanced the dish. Everything from the waitstaff to the foods, it was a wonderful. We'll be back again.

My friend and I came for dinner tonight. Had ordered Salmon, New York Strip, mushroom salad and chips. Have to say the food is ok, but not flavourful. Especially the steak, which I asked medium rare, but some part of it are little bit overcooked. What I like most is the mushroom, pretty delicious. Overall the price is expensive. I'd recon Melbourne's steak for sure.

My new favourite restaurant to go to when in Adelaide. Wow oh wow. Argentinian food with a flare. This place had me wanting to dance the salsa I was so impressed. Very tasty food, great portions and great service. The mixed grill was not your usual 5 kilos of meat slapped on a plate. Quality cut of meats well presented and cooked to perfection. Great wine list to match. The highlight was the Argentinian cream brûlée. Honestly the best one I have had. This place is a must try.

Gaucho's has been on my list of restaurants to visit for a long time now and I was happy to finally visit for a special occasion. It's a little on the pricy side but all the food we had was of a very good quality. Their specialisation is steak and it's easy to see why. The steaks were perfectly cooked and tender, but the staff were careful to check whether we were happy with them or wanted them to be cooked longer (no way)! Fantastic wine and I loved the extra-large wine glasses. Salad was just okay. For desserts we had the churros and the creme brûlée and were glad we managed to squeeze them in. Quite busy even on a Sunday night so definitely a good idea to book ahead.
Dieter
Food : Calamari, oyster natural, scotch fillet, fried broccoli with cheese and a desert whose name I forget (Dom somethingorother). Washed down with a local Shiraz. Steak cook perfect, loved the flavour and did not need sauce. The broccoli was something different, it's a must try.<br/>Service: the wait staff are pros, they know what they are doing. Well looked after.

Well I use to come here in the early 2000's for quite sometime, when I walked in tonight it was such a pleasant surprise, refreshed, classy and full of life.<br/>We were served by Wayne (expected something more exotic by name) and he suggested we go over to the meat window so he could advise us on the various cuts.<br/>We started with the Parillada Mixta which is Argentine for Mixed grill.<br/>Our server suggested some Papas Fritas and blue cheese with our mains delicious.<br/>Then we were treated to the 200g eye fillet aged with braised beef cheeks and jus, we also had the 300g aged New York strip with roasted tomato and harissa.<br/>Our wines came by the glass and were personally selected by our server, just sensational and a lot of fun.<br/>We had mushroom and broccoli and fries and we are full to the max.<br/>When it comes to steak houses this place is up there with the best, it's good, it's great and its unique.<br/>Really pleased we came back!!!!

Excellent service, food and wine list. Being an Argentinian steakhouse, I had high expectation for Gaucho's and they certainly didn't disappoint. Their portions are generous and the downside to that was we didn't have any room for dessert. Will definitely come back the next time I'm in Adelaide.

We came here to celebrate my birthday. I enjoyed this place more than La Boca Bar and Grill, and the prices are only a little bit pricier than La Boca. <br/><br/>It's a fine dining restaurant and boy do they know how to cook their meat! All of the meat was soft and melted in your mouth. We loved the mixed grill and the lamb, but I would avoid the pork belly, it was 90% fat. <br/><br/>We only needed 2 entrees for a table of 4 as they were so large. <br/><br/>We were so full at the end but still ordered one serve of churros which was plenty for the 4 of us for dessert. Their churros are much better than what you get at San Churro.<br/><br/>All in all it was a very satisfying meal.

Amazing affordable quality steak! 3.8 def don't do its justice. That is why ppl stop using zomato. Moved to Melbourne for years and this is still on my best steak list.
Chips Before Dips
I came here with my partner for the first time last week. We had some empanadas to start which I would definitely order again, they were delicious. Then I went on to have a steak with blue cheese sauce, and we shared a quinoa salad and some sautéed mushrooms as sides. All dishes were super tasty and top quality. I particularly loved the sides. The service was friendly and helpful. Would happily visit again for a special occasion, given it's on the pricey side.

I have visited this much loved Adelaide institution of several occasions. The meals were uneven; sometimes great, sometimes disappointing. The staff are mostly welcoming, particularly if you are a regular. If not, expect indifference for the most part.
Feed My Hole
Amazing piece of T-bone steak. Cooked perfectly, and the blue cheese sauce was amazing, and plentiful. Wished there was something other than chips on the side but the steak was good enough to make up for that. Would return

We visited here to celebrate my dads birthday! We were welcomed straight away; I brought in a cake and they were only to happy to look after it for me. We all ordered steaks; cooked to perfection; I tried the pork belly off the special board and that was simply moist and crackle was done nicely. Our waiter if only I could remember his name was fantastic; was very nice to us and offered any assistence he could. The cake was brought out after our meals; they took note of the birthday boy of the night and made sure he had a good time. The prices are reasonable for a place like this. We will be back; it is always nice when a special family occasion can go to a restaurant expecting it to be great the restaurant exceeding that! Well done :)

We came here on our last night in Adelaide based of a recommendation from our supervisor who suggested the Argentinean steak restaurant<br/><br/>This place is one of the best steak houses I have been to, very similar vibe to meat and wine co. in Melbourne.<br/><br/>The service was great as the staff were very friendly and helpful when it came to explaining the menus and helping is a choose a steak cut.<br/><br/>You start of with a trio of condiments which we ordered some sourdough to go with. We also ordered beef capriccio which was amazing, perfectly plated with cheese and pickles, the flavour combo was a mix of smoked meaty-saltiness.<br/><br/>We then ordered our mains, the aged rump with salsa verde sauce, cooked to medium rare and accompanied with a couscous salad, fat cut chips and a broccolini side dish.<br/><br/>The dishes were outstanding, the steak was cooked to perfection, the couscous salad was a good tasty way to cut the meat heavy meal, the broccolini added some green crunch to the dish while the fat chips as an added bonus to an already filling meal. The flavours all worked really well, and the smoked authentic Argentinian taste throughout the dishes was delicious.

Had a great lunch, but only due to the company we had. <br/><br/>Apparently the steak was a 3.5, but I had the Pollo and it was bleeding. The wait staff offered to take it back and put it back on the grill, when they brought it the thigh was dry and the leg was still not cooked properly.<br/><br/>Biggest problem was that it was obvious that I didn't eat my dish, yet they still charged the $35.<br/>

Joe the owner of Gaucho's has hit it on the head. This restaurant is just amazing. We were walking past and looked at menu as we had not decide where to eat yet. A yound waiter (Sunil) discussed the menu with us. We decided to keep looking and moved on. Wasn't long and we went back as Sunil had us hooked.<br/>Food is amazing and staff are very knowledgeable on whats on offer. The friendliest service I had seen in Adelaide. We enjoyed our meal and had great conversations with Joe and another waiter Luca. What a team. While on our honeymoon in Adelaide we made sure that we went back a second time so on last night we went again. I will be calling in again on next visit to Adelaide.<br/>Luca is just an amazing person and knows his customers.<br/>Thank you to Joe, Luca and Sunil for the great experience.

Okay so the back story is that I've been to Gaucho'd before for the food and can say that I am never disappointed in its quality nor the service received. I more recently travelled back to Gaucho's for their creme brulee (which is to die for!) but the service was made to make myself and my company feel uncomfortable. We all left feeling that it had to be justified why we only came in to eat their amazing dessert. Due to the unfortunate events of this one occasion it has left a sour taste in our mouths and we will not be returning in the future. High quality service should remain the same for ALL customers entering a restaurant, regardless of the amount spent. A very disappointed customer.

Now while walking down gouger street with a mate we wanted steak. So automatically we thought gauchos.<br/>We ordered for entree the olives, and for mains the scotch fillet, and lamb loin. The lamb was beautiful, the steak was also well cooked. I would have liked to have seen some french mustards or more choices when coming to condiemts.<br/>So above all food was great.<br/><br/>Now service was another story. While eating at a resturant and paying a peemium you expect a nice experience.<br/><br/>Our waitress did not seat us properly like the old days. Napkins are no longer laid across laps, specials were given to us buy a piece of paper. The girl lacked food knowledge, and wine knowledge. The returned three times due to forgetting the name of the glass of red my mate ordered. I noticed also that water glasses were attended to like they used to do. Once the waitress were waiting they congregated and chit chatted. And the lack of interaction was e, barrassing. I left feeling like I paid 150 dollars and ate a well cooked steak in a front bar of a local pub. now even though the steaks were cooked well I wasnt impressed by the cut itself. Majority of the steaks on the menu are found in hotels and pubs around adelaide and weres the Argentinean beef? Definately has dropped it game the only thing that has stayed consistant is the lack of service to people especially tables of two, due to the large table especially those with friends of owner are double teamed. I wont return at least this year, to a resturant I used to praise within my peers and my fellow chef mates. <br/>

Today I call to ask to book at table but the guy answered the phone was super rude , any way I when yesterday and try the food and the food was just ok and the service really but I wait for more than and hour waiting for the food to be amazing but not super bad steak and very, very, very price for the quality of the service and the food they offer and is not authentic Argentina restaurant the food sounds but the food not test like it .<br/>Please improve the customer serve its important and tell your stuff to don't hv altitude.<br/>

I was INCREDIBLY disappointed at the steaks. My partner and I got two different steaks and were both hard to the point of being almost inedible even though we ordered medium rare. I actually can make better steaks myself from pre-marinated Coles steaks. I ended up not eating most of my steak. Really annoyed because Gaucho's is expensive and it was a huge waste of money. I'm giving it a 2 because service was good - I told the waiters that the steaks were way too overcooked (they ask how the food was when we were paying the bill) and they were quite apologetic and offered to cook us the same dishes again. We didn't take up on the offer but thought that was a nice gesture.
Tempting Palates
When you think of steak you automatically think of Gaucho's Argentinian Restaurant at 91 Gouger St, Adelaide, however, they also offer an Argentinean menu that deserves to be explored. After our wonderful experience we now think Argentinian first when we think of Gaucho's. Tempting Palates was invited to try the Argentinian menu options and all food and drinks provided on the night were free of charge.Gaucho's has been an Adelaide institution for almost 30 years. Now that's longevity in the restaurant game!
Ilias Mavromatis
It's an Adelaide institution when it comes to steaks. Those who are dinners will know the word Gauchos. When you walk in it talk of class and high standards and the foods across the menu are simply amazing. One place where it covers every occasion to its finest......... Bon appetite!

There are days when my husband and i both crave for a good seafood paella. I guess it often falls on one of these rainy and chilly evenings around this time of the year. In past couple of years, we have been going to c for seafood paella, but we decided to mix it up a bit and try at Gaucho’s Argentinian Restaurant.<br/><br/>We had Seafood paella for two (Paella De Mariscos). They kindly allowed us to order prior to getting there so we didn’t have to wait for 30-40 minutes which was great.

Friends suggested Gaucho's for dinner, with a qualifying questions - you like meat don't you!!!! I was in meat lover's heaven. As you will see in some of the photos the lovely display case of meat.....mmmmmmmmmmmThe service was welcoming and friendly. My steak was delicious - flavoursome, cooked the way I liked it (rare) and was sooooo tender. My friends thought their meals were great (they are regulars). I was impressed by the quality and size of the serving and the knowledge of the staff of the menu and the wine list. The atmosphere was busy with full tables and an outside table in good weather would be a great experience, looking forward to a meal there in warmer weather.Highly recommend a meal here.

Best steak anywhere, and best chimichurra sauce going. Expensive, but you won't regret the wonderful meal you'll have. The fried halumi is divine. Just wish the goats leg was still on the menu :) This restaurant is a great special occasion place, if I want to celebrate this is where I go.
DM
I love this place. Every time I go to Adelaide I head to Gauchos as it is consistently awesome, and I say this in relation to both food and service. You can feel confident that if you are hosting people they won't let you down or leave you embarrassed. I will also add that their sauce is amazing so be sure to try it.
Jimichanga
Absolutely fantastic service and beautiful food! Well done to the team at Goucho's! Highly recommend giving it a go and make sure you buy some of their sauce when you settle the bill.
Anna Lawler
Fantastic food, from the oysters to steak everything was cooked to perfection. Highlights were the chorizo and fillet steak- all winner and no filler !Excellent service.
Sahar&Aurelio
We came here on a Tuesday night and were surprised how busy it was. I ordered the lamb chops which were cooked perfectly and a great char grilled flavor. Very satisfying. The Waiter was very friendly and accommodating. He forgot one of our entrees so we got 1 free of charge plus a complementary dessert wine! Not bad! Would definitely recommend coming here
Leannet999
A lovely restaurant with great food. Although was extremely disappointment with our waitress named Paola (long black hair) who was very rude, and disrespectful to us. She was very forceful and was not polite in the slightest. An incident occurred and she was back lashing at us and didn't even say sorry!! How rude!! She didn't even say 'thank you' or enjoy your night hope you enjoyed it. She just walked off. It's like she couldn't be stuffed with us. It really turned me and my friends off and we will not be returning any time soon. Maybe she was having a bad night but it's not a nice way to treat customers! We felt unwelcome and very uncomfortable.
Dam Burger
Really good food and wine. A little expensive though $624 for 4 people. Shared entrees and two bottles of wine. $6 for sauces on steaks that are already $40+
Stella
If you love your steak then this is the perfect place for you. Succulent, cooked to perfection and tasty, the steak is a must have. The service is professional and attentive and the atmosphere is great. Prices are hefty but the quality is of a high standard so you don't mind paying them. Can't wait to go again.

All I can say is "try the mixed grill". I was disappointed to see the ribs are off the menu but the grill was to die for. Services is a bit snobby for my liking but nevertheless a great meal. <br/>

I used to like Gaucho's. I loved the eye fillet. But the menu has since changed and there is no more eye filet. A shame really. I was looking forward to a good steak but after waiting for 90 minutes the feeling wore off. My steak, ordered blue, took 90 minutes to serve and it came out overcooked. Despite the waitresses friendly demeanour they did not even bother to acknowledge or apologise for the delay. It took multiple attempts to get our bill, which wasn't even the right one.Suffice to say, I will not be going back.
Fit & Fed Foodie
My favourite place for steak, ribs, empanadas and churros in Adelaide! The service is always on point, however as a long returning customer I didn't like three changes that were made 1. The pear salad which was a must have now seems mediocre to its former self missing the greens and generous Parmesan it used to have. Last two times I've had it I've been disappointed. 2. Steak on a wooden board, please no! It's just messy, uninviting and where's my salad going to go? 3. Store brought chips, bring back the homey potatoes... Apart from that, I still love this place! Food comas every time, but must have the fluffy and delicious churros! All the desserts are heaven sent actually... Yum!

My birthday so I was treated to this gem, Let's firstly discuss the reputation this establishment has, it's known for steaks and the place to go to eat steaks. And yes it was impressive I had the New York styled steak topped with a exquisite blue vein cheese sauce which iced the steak perfectly, the steamed greens were not just plain as you would think It was full of different textures and flavours as well as the mushrooms and the parmesan salad.<br/>And the service in this establishment also didn't disappoint and nor should it with the price you pay first class service.<br/>The only thing that didn't please was the noise levels and also the fact there was no traditional rib eye.<br/>
The Adelaidian
When most people think of Gaucho’s, images of tenderly cooked steak and mouthwatering meats often come to mind. While Gaucho’s do serve great steaks, their roots lie in all kinds of Argentinian cuisine (not just meats!), and the new menu aims to deliver the best Argentinian food right here in Adelaide.

I finally made it into Gaucho's last night, an old Adelaide icon. I think I may have been here before as a child, but I'm not too sure. I always just assumed that I would be invited for a work function or a friend's birthday eventually, but it never happened. My girlfriend and I were a little apprehensive as we, probably unfairly, had a notion in our heads that this was an overly expensive restaurant that was aimed mostly at business people and the food could be a little disappointing. Yes, it is expensive, but I think we were both pleasantly surprised with the food and service.<br/><br/>Food:<br/>We started by sharing the beef empanadas which were tasty and nicely cooked. There was a bit of a gap between entrées and mains but the restaurant was quite busy and we expected that since pretty much everyone is there for the same thing – steak. I had the NSW New York strip steak. I asked for medium rare, and it was pretty damn close, but in compass terms it was probably medium medium rare (being pedantic). My girflfriend’s dry-aged steak was cooked medium even though she asked for medium rare. With a dry aged steak I think it’s probably more crucial to cook it less. We both still enjoyed our steaks though. I had mushroom sauce on the side which was really nice but the steak probably doesn’t need it to be honest. The peppercorn sauce wasn’t the best, very peppery and not well balanced. The chips came out on a shared plate and they were delicious. Although we probably didn’t need it, we would have liked to have seen a few more chips between 2 people. We also ordered the side of broccoli which was absolutely amazing. This morning I’m still thinking about how perfectly that broccoli was cooked, it’s a fantastic side dish. We also tried the salad which was on the specials menu and was also really enjoyable. Call us crazy but the salad gave us flashbacks of eating a whopper from Hungry Jacks! The wine list is not too bad and we were treated to a complimentary glass of port at the end which was a nice touch. <br/><br/>Service:<br/>We were greeted at the door promptly and taken out to the back room as we didn’t have a booking. Our waitress was friendly and took good care of us. I’m not sure her knowledge of the menu was as extensive as it could have been, she may have been new, but she certainly made up for it with her attitude. <br/><br/>Ambience:<br/>The restaurant is always busy whenever I’ve gone past it. I would have loved to sat in the front room last night as it is slightly nicer than the back room with the view looking out onto Gouger and a view of the kitchen. The setting is simple and classic, but somehow it doesn’t seem old and tired like some other established Adelaide icons.<br/><br/>Dish to look out for:<br/>This is an odd one to pick at a steakhouse, but if you like broccoli that side dish is incredible.

A big boy's birthday and we decided Gaucho's would be a great place to celebrate this special moment. As we walked in, the restaurant looked really small and we were worried that it wouldn't be able to fit all of us. However the staff took us down this corridor which led us to the back which had more seating and the interior felt much nicer.<br/><br/>We were then quickly welcomed by the head staff, and he just unloaded a ton of information about the menu/specials. I'm pretty sure none of us could keep up, but he was quite funny and was keen to help. The menu were mainly steaks but that's what you would expect when it comes to fine dining. I ordered their mix grill, and majority of my friends ordered the different types of steak. They all ordered medium rare, but for some reason all of them were cooked differently. Some were more medium, and some were REALLY rare. Since I quite like rare steaks, so I didn't mind it and it was really juicy. The mushroom sauce that went with the steak is probably the best mushroom sauce I had. The mushroom was quite fresh, and the sauce went really well with the steak.<br/><br/>Then moving onto my actual dish, the grill was well presented and it had a variety of meat, hence my decision in ordering it. Each type was grilled to perfection, allowing the taste of the meat and charcoal to be evenly distributed. Normally I'm not a big fan of eating the fat on pork belly, but it was so good I couldn't resist!<br/><br/>Altogether, the experience at Gaucho's was fantastic and would definitely recommend to people who are searching for some great food and feeling like a high roller on the night.

If a restaurant is good enough for the prime minister to eat at, it must be absolutely phenomenal and Gaucho definitely lived up to that expectation! Immediately as we walked through the door, we were greeted immediately by a waiter, all of them dressed extremely sharp. We were lead to the back of the restaurant to a private area, where we were seated next to the table of the man the himself, Tony Abbott. Which was a pleasant surprise.<br/><br/>Onto the food, though the wait for long, it was totally worth it as the steaks were cooked to near perfection. the mushroom sauce glazed the steak in a way that brought out the true flavours of the steak. The chips that came with the steaks were also delicious being proper clean cut potato chips. Though I wis that there were more servings of chips as each person didn't get their own serves but it was all placed into a large bowl to share.<br/><br/>Overall the experience was amazing, and would definitely comeback again for a special occasion. Though the total cost of the bill was equivalent to the new iPhone.

Below average. Was charged for things we didnt order and our steaks were well overcooked for what we ordered. Also only given one small share of chips between our meals, however it stated complimentary serve of chips with each meal. Won't be back.

Went here after a recommendation from a mate. I found it underwhelming and looked to trading in its name with business travellers. It was overpriced, food was good but not outstanding which I expected, my steak was cook well but was not aged near enough for me. Service was a little patchy and overall I would not go back. More name than deliver.

No this isn’t the start of a bad joke, it’s reality! Inevitably, in a group of dining companions there will always be one friendly vego. Thankfully Radelaide’s steak restaurants have cottoned on to this and have offerings to keep everybody happy. Invited by Neon Moose PR to preview the new summer menu, i put on my cowboy boots, raised my steak knife and moseyed on in. Yeehaw!

Admittedly, I am one of those people, born and bred in Adelaide yet I’ve never stepped foot into Gaucho’s. It’s one of those places that has always been on my list, but with the constant stream of pop ups and openings of other new restaurants and bars, this Adelaide institute kept getting bumped down on the list for me. Well finally, Gaucho’s is now ticked off my list as we were invited to their new menu launch in conjunction with a neon moose blogger dinner event.

When you think of steak you automatically think of Gaucho's Argentinian Restaurant at 91 Gouger St, Adelaide, however, they also offer an Argentinean menu that deserves to be explored. After our wonderful experience we now think Argentinian first when we think of Gaucho's. Tempting Palates was invited to try the Argentinian menu options and all food and drinks provided on the night were free of charge.
Adelaidefoodcentral
For as long as I can remember, the name Gaucho’s is synonymous with being one of the original and best Argentinian steakhouses in Adelaide. The steaks are still outstanding, as is their patented chimichurri sauce, however, it’s not all that they do. Adelaide Food Central was invited along tonight, along with other guests, to sample some of the new offerings that are on their menu. All food and drink were provided free of charge.
Cheeky Diner
This is the fourth time I've been here and each time has been as good as the last. Great fine dining experience at an affordable price! Great cosy, warm atmosphere. The fireplace is always a huge hit in winter. <br/>Ordered the 250g rib eye which came with a serving of chips for the table and we ordered the pear and walnut salad as a side. The beef was succulent, tender and delicious. I did ask for my steak to be cooked medium well, but the server advised against this due to it being tough so I went with medium rare with no blood. There however was still blood when I cut into it, however the taste was so good I was able to overlook it. Salad was crisp, tasty and well seasoned. My partner also ordered a 'corona' beer and was pleased to see, was imported from Mexico.<br/>Overall an enjoyable meal. Our table server was also friendly, knowledgeable and on point with service. I would definitely eat here again.<br/>

Staff is absolutely atrocious. I had a man serve our table. He was tall and bald. He was so rude and pressuring it drove our table insane. I was told by another staff member he was in the army and that is why he is the way he is.. Umm ok

Was starving and after a nights work I went over to Gauchos for a premium aged scotch fillet. Asked for medium rare. 40minutes later! It arrived and was done! Grey on the inside, burnt on the outside and dry as a bone. I couldn't be bothered making a complaint, I scoffed it down helped by a nice glass of red. I'm not one to not Finnish my steak but it was like eating cardboard. Then the waitress comes and ask how my steak was. I informed her it was one of the worst $50 steaks I've ever eaten in my life. I'm not after a replacement, after waiting 40mins I gotta dash home soon. I showed her the remaining part of my steak which was grey and over cooked which she replied, "sorry I'm color blind" I call BS to be honest. but if you're not happy we can replace it. I wasn't going to waste my time here anymore, paid the bill and left. I wasn't rude to the cow, more so disappointed at the appalling attitude and quality of food.

I recently had dinner here for the first time with my girlfriend and we both felt like seafood. It was recommended by the waiter who was helpful the whole night (couldn't fault the service) to have the Zarzuella which had a mix of seafood(crabs, prawns, oysters, muscles and salmon) in a salsa broth. The price came to $65 per person so expectations were very high. The meal was really nice, although with all the hard shell meat it wasn't the easiest to eat and quite messy which was really awkward in a restaurant with this standard. It's disappointing that after a nice meal I felt cheated.. With the price of $130 we both expected to be really full and some left over and it simply wasn't the case. I understand they specialise in meat but it was still disappointing. All in all it was a nice meal and if it wasn't so dear i would of walked away satisfied. I wouldn't suggest this particular meal to other people but would happily go back again to see what else they have to offer!

Gauchos has been a perennial favourite in Adelaide for years, and one of the finest Argentinian restaurants in the country. We believe Adelaide has the best Argentinian scene in Australia. The thing about Gauchos is you come here for the whole experience from ambience to service to the fine cuisine. This is about sexy meat, but not just sexy meat.  While the steaks are massive here it isn't just about size. The cuts of meat are premium and they are cooked perfectly in the Argentinian style on the flaming grill. The sauces play a key role. Some of our happiest dining experiences in Adelaide have been at Gauchos.  Gauchos are of course the cowboys of Argentina!

Come for the steaks.. Yes the steaks are expensive...around $50. But totally worth it. A good place for that special occasion.

Great food and service. Love the food and the service. We had a waiter called Lule and he was fantastic. Knew all about the menu and his recommendations were spot on. Very professional

Was hoping for a nice steak. They were just your average pub steak. Cost close on $250 for 3 Mains only with drinks. Would have been nice to have a bread roll, Had to leave about a third of steak as just chewy bit left,, Certainly made good use of steak knife to cut steak,, Was really in the mood for a good steak.

Moo. Paid $65 per head for the seafood for 2 and just about choked when it arrived. The dish was over cooked to say the least, the handful of mussels on a bed of not much more than tomato purée were dry and burnt, the prawns were burnt and the 2 salmon steaks were overcooked to dry. It looked to have been under a griller and forgotten. The rest of the dish consisted of 2 swimmer crabs and random calamari, for $65 don't bother, over cooked, over priced and over rated!

Reminds you it's still the best. Just had a family dinner for 5 of us. The 5 star service was immaculate, our waiter was a gun - attentive and catered to every need and request. <br/><br/>Our food was perfect, tasty and delicious. What steaks should be, melt in your mouth with flavoursome sauce.<br/><br/>After an awful experience at La Boca, it's nice to remind yourself that there's class and amazing Argentinian steaks still on Adelaide!

"Pub grub at 5 star prices". Hate to write a bad review but tonight left all 10 people with a hole in their pockets and 100% dissatisfaction. <br/><br/>Positively the place could cater a large group at last minute however once seated things went from bad to worse.<br/><br/>- Meals took over an hour to come out of the kitchen. <br/>- The floor staff saw the table 3 times in total. No vibe with this one, nor Argentinean feel<br/>- Steak meals where a sole steak on a plate. I had Scotch at $41 for a cooked steak, another had the T-bone for $82<br/>- Mains stated the came with Roasted Potato chips. This was actually a small table bowl of deep fried potatoes<br/>- Others had veal, kebab on stick and vegetarian<br/>- All of the meals orders can be purchased at a good pub<br/>- BYOB corkage fee was $20 FOR EACH BOTTLE<br/>- At no point did anyone feel in an Argentinean restaurant or feel they were eating Argentinean meals. <br/><br/>After each forking out over $70 per meal (Main & BYOB wine) we went to a dessert bar to fill up and try feel satisfied. <br/><br/>100% group will not return.

Hate to give a bad review but will prevent others the same mistake. Here goes.....<br/><br/>Good size for a venue however terrible value to money. BYOB offering however $20 per bottle. I had the scotch steak meal which was $41 and consisted of a lonely steak on a plate, nothing else. $7.50 extra for a sauce. Each meal was to come out with potato's however this is a small bowl for the table to share. Another had a fatty T-bone for $80 which was again just a steak on a plate. Others had kebab on stick, veal and the vegetarian option. <br/><br/>Very little effort from floor staff and meal took 1:15 hr to come out. Hungry the 10 strong party went to a dessert bar after with 100% dissatisfaction about Gauchos. <br/><br/>If your wanting an Argentinian meal go elsewhere, this is italian/european meals with Argentinian names.<br/><br/>"Sorry but can't see any value here other than if you have a large party and money to waste on pub grub at 5 star prices."

On my recent visit I requested (whilst booking) that our table to be away from the door but when we got there we were placed at the first available table by the door. Every time the door opened we caught the cold breeze. We asked several times to move to a vacant table but the waiter could only come up with excuses all night. The only time the manager came to see us was when we said that we were moving to another location for dessert. We would have been really happy to stay and spend more money if we were comfortable. The food was of a good standard, except that they stuffed up our side order so we almost finished our meal before it arrived. Overall I won't be recommending this place nor returning due to the bad customer service...
Amez
A bit overpriced. While the food was nice, it wasn't worth what they were charging. Overpriced for what you get. We also found the service a bit pushy and fake.

You can do much better elsewhere. Been here twice, and if there's anything consistent, it's that the front of house lets this place down. Two hours is plenty of time for a person to eat. I'm not one to dawdle over dinner, especially if I'm on my own and all I'm interested in is a feed. It's off-putting that instead of a warm greeting all I get is a time limit as I get shown my table. Generally I finish three courses anyway under an hour if the order comes in expeditiously. The anchovy starter, a middling steak (supposed to be the house specialty), and churros/coffee all finished in fifty minutes, and it took fifteen to organise the bill. Avoid.

RUDE UNEDUCATED INEXPRIENCED MANAGEMENT. Very bad experience. At arrival she rudely instructed us to dine outside, I should have left immediately. The lobster was served cold charred but undercooked. They steak was terrible charred burnt. The meal was also very over priced. The cooks rushed the cooking of the meal and do not put any pride into it. After the meal I asked for manager to giver her my thoughts. She replied "well you ate it didn't you".

TOP STEAK!!. Ace Eye Fillet....& bread...so yum you fill up too much on it. Wine suggestions and service very friendly
Julie Rothery
Steaks and sides were good, we had the specials- scallops as an entree (very salty) and beef ribs (very dry). I can tolerate this even at a premium price, until we received the bill. In short- they overcharged us $100! They charged a mushroom sauce as a mushroom side dish and 2 glasses of wine were charged as $60 bottles (we only had wine by the glass so major mistake). When we alerted the waiter they corrected it and shrugged it off without apology. I wonder what would happen if we hadn't noticed and if this happened to any others. Check your bill!
Captainshaft
Excellent steak! It is beautifully cooked, and you can see why it's always full.

Come for the steaks, stay for the churros. Really a great restaurant for fine dining. Great attention to service and detail, all needs are looked after, staff well knowledged in the food and wine they serve. I had the scotch fillet with potatoes, medium rare - amazing, melt in the mouth meat with the right sauce to complement it. The potatoes were very tasty as were the seasonal veggies we ordered on the side. <br/><br/>For dessert, we had room as I skipped entree to keep room for dessert!, we had the churro and the fig creme brule. Oh so tasty, the churro's were just perfect, crisp on the outside, nice and soft on the inside with delicious caramel sauce for dipping. The creme brule was delicious, creamy and not too sweet. <br/><br/>A great experience, worth the price tag.

Brilliant food and atmosphere. My partner and I went for dinner on Saturday night. <br/>On arrival we were promptly seated (we had reserved), and offered water and starters. <br/>For our entree we had the mussels- amazing, with a bottle of fizzy white wine, followed by the porter house and the eye fillet for myself, and then espressos. All of the food was lovely- well worth the higher price tag. The atmosphere of the restaurant was just right, we had great service and we were seated outside. The staff are professional yet friendly, although our waitress who was obviously a newbee did drop a couple of swear words during service as she seemed nervous, but other than that it was a wonderful night. We will defiantly return and recommend.

Fantabulous!. Well what is there to say, fantabulous evening, I could not be more impressed withe the food and service, we were welcomed and seated on time, we were looked after by our Waiter with great knowledge of the menu which he explained in full, the food was awesome and delicious, they had our favourite wine, the table service was excellent! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone at anytime so impressed, thank you so much Gouchos for a great evening, 10/10!

Best Morcilla in Adelaide. Well what can I say about Gaucho's. They don't ever seem to disappoint. <br/>Food wise they seem to be an Adelaide constitution especially for their highly sought after steak.<br/>This time around we visited for my birthday. One of the very limited restaurants still open during the Christmas/New Year break. <br/>We were tucked into a nice cosy corner. Ordered the wine from their extensive but favourable wine list. Only disappointment, no cucumber in my Hendricks and tonic for my starter drink.<br/>We decided to have entrees aswell as a 350gm steak each. BIG MISTAKE. Unless you have been or Survivor or starving yourself on a deserted island, one or no entree is plenty.<br/>The meat board was delicious but could do with more pickled or sour notes to break up the saltiness of the cured meats.<br/>The anchovies was a major disappointment. Came out in a tin. Just seemed like they opened it up, chucked it on a plate and voila $15-20 in the bag. <br/>The steaks came out with our sides and I ordered a special side of morcilla (blood sausage). WOW!! Steak was fantastic as per usual, but the Morcilla was mind blowing. I would have been happy with that times three. <br/>Overall an enjoyable experience, not so enjoyable walking out trying to suck your gut in.

Went here for dinner last night. I've been to Gauchos twice before, one good experience and one bad so I was eager to see how it would bade this evening. We started with bread and olives which were nice and we were well looked after from the moment we walked in regarding drinks orders etc. my friend ordered the porterhouse which came with potatoes. When it came out it looked a bit bare so we ordered a pear salad to go with it which arrived promptly after. I couldn't find anything I really liked on the main menu (wanted something lighter) so asked if I could have the chargrilled squid with quinoa as a main which they happily did. My friends steak was slightly undercooked so when they did a meal check he was honest and they cooked it a few mins longer. My meal was well cooked and flavour some. All in all the meal cost us $170 with a few glasses of wine. It was a pleasant experience, not amazing and I'd expect nothing more for the price tag. My only gripe would be that my main ended up being $48 which I thought was completely ridiculous for some squid and a small amount of quinoa. They doubled the entree price! I wouldn't have gotten it if I'd known that. To be honest I know a lot of places in Adelaide where I can get on par if not superior food for much cheaper. Would I go to gauchos again? Maybe for a special occasion.

Horrible. Not impressed at all. It was a complete ripoff and the food was not good at all. Definitely will not be going back.
RBG
Service was good, very friendly waiters. However the steak is a little average. Steak for $50 should be fantastic and unfortunately our whole table had tough over cooked steak and this is the second time in the last 12 months we have experienced this. Disappointing as Gaucho's used to be fantastic and consistent. It does need to be noted that They do serve incredible Oysters!
Erik
In Adelaide, this price for this kind of food is absolutely a joke. The sirloin n ribeye I had didn't convince me by the price I'm paying at all. The ribeye comes with a big bone in it and the only company items are a green salad with doggie leaves and roast potatoes.. Will not return unless someone treats me there.

PRICEY!. I bet this is echo all over the review but I always had a good time here. I first stumble across this place when I was looking for nice restaurant and there was none open. I must admit I had good dining experience here at all the 3 times (must admit amazing companion so......) I have been here but the price almost equal to fine dining experience which I don't equate them to. I will call it a fancy restaurant but not fine dining.<br/><br/>The price and the quality does not match but that does not mean the place is bad. I love it at all times but I not my first choice for dining.
Flyingdog
Expectations were high going there because it was recommended buy a local. Wasn't blown away other than buy the prices. Had the porterhouse and t bone and both were just ok. Nothing special. Stay home and cook your own would prob have more flavour. <br/>Service was alright, bit slow and unfamiliar with the menu. Overall way overpriced and not worth it
Nathan Gurarie
Sooo disappointing. $69 wagyu is the worst I've ever had. Ok if you pay $30 but for the price you expect some flavour. Blue cheese sauce had aist no blue cheese flavour and potatoes were so salty they were barely edible. Respect for a great wine list and prompt friendly service but the good was laughably overpriced. Pity

Went in late on a Monday night. They took a few mins to decide if we were in time or not then said it was ok and proceeded to rush us through the whole experience with fake politeness. Nice sauce, pretty good if not spectacular rib eye. I am a major fan of garlic and probably over use it but this was ridiculous and we made the mistake of ordering the garlic bread which was more garlic than bread. Decent meal not spectacular and certainly over priced. The whole experence left us with a vaguley unpleasent taste in our mouths.
Anonymous.
Beautiful food, my partner & i both left full & satisfied. we will be returning for my birthday
LittlePorkBun
Would not recommend based on price, quality and service.. As many others have said Gaucho's is over priced. In comparison to other steak places, the meat lacked quality. The place overall was quite boring and bland and at the time the service was quite unprofessional, considering the price and appearance. The other Argentinian steak place in the city is much, much better. Have been there multiple times and often take visitors there.

Good wine, good Steak good times!. A few from our group had the 800g Rib Eye EPIC! It's an argentinian restaurant the delivers the essentials :). Staff were attentive good night was had by all.

Terrible. Was very dissapointed with my food. the steak wasnt how i asked for it to be cooked, the service was dismale and as i glanced a peak into the back the i saw the chef wipe his mouth then touch the food.

Competent service, lovely atmosphere but most importantly delicious delicious steak.

Love It ordered my steak blue and got what I asked for<br/>The meat is amazing :-) !!! Great place

Normal food, unreasonable price, good service. One dining on weekday. Stuff squid as an entree is good start. Unfortunately, main dishes are let down. Lamb rack under good seasoning is overcooked (dry) which is ashamed. Scotch fillet cooked to perfection (medium-rare) is bland without seasoning, and also sinking in the disappointed unseasoned peppercorn shiraz sauce. Apart from that, good service is uncomplainable. To sum up, despite the pleasant service, unreasonable price for normal food can't save it in my coming-back list.

Best duck. Duck is sessional, love the bay bugs as well.<br/>Service is very average.
Food Pornographer
Went there last night for dinner. Wowzers... Lets get a little more with the times! Food is out dated, staff had an attitude to match! Yes, by all means charge an arm and a leg for your food, but make it bloody taste good. I often wonder how places like this are still in business and how a chef can get away with producing that sort of food. Nothing hard about cooking a bbq! But one thing i will give you, you make a great salad, so hats off to you, coz you aint gonna earn one with food like that.
MunchingSharkie
SO OVERPRICED. So overpriced for such small proportions of food.<br/><br/>Not going back.

A must visit!. My partner and I ate dinner here on Sunday night, this place is always busy so we had made a reservation a few weeks in advance knowing we were heading to adelaide for the long weekend. And lucky we booked as the place was full, walk in patrons were turned away.<br/>We were seated in the back room, which was unimaginably warm, we asked to be moved as i couldnt bear the temperature (although others were sitting there in jumpers!!) We were moved to the front room, which was much nicer.<br/>we ordered the ciabatta with olive oil, balsamic and dukkah for entree absolutely beautiful. lovely sweet balsamic and a beautifully flavoured dukkah. For main i ordered the 250g eye fillet and my partner ordered the 350g scotch fillet both medium rare, with a side of mushroom sauce (enough to share between 2) and a side of sauteed vegetables. The meal was impeccable, from the steak to the crunchy potato chips....and the mushroom sauce...devine! We definitely make it a prority to visit gauchos every time we come to adelaide!<br/>I have never had dessert, as I think its a little over priced $20 for an affogato or slice of cake... and nothing has ever grabbed my fancy that much...a short stroll down the street reveal some lovely hidden gems for dessert!
Howitis
Most expensive desserts in Adelaide. Four of us went here for my husband's birthday on a Friday night. We ordered three steaks and a special rabbit. The meals were pretty good except my steak was definitely under cooked for medium. A place known for it's steaks should have this down pat. My biggest complaint is the price of the desserts. We ordered some churros to split for $20.90, and after waiting well over 30 mins, a plate of 4 tiny greasy churros was served, that's over $5 for each pathetic churro!!! I've bought these elsewhere and was given about 10x the amount for $5. Absolutely ridiculous! When my husband went up to pay, he was asked if everything was ok. He said, the meals were good, but that we thought they were price gouging on the dessert, one of the staff rolled her eyes at him and walked away (completely rude!!) and another one said that they agreed!!! I have a feeling they must get a lot of complaints about this...well then, increase the portion sizes or decrease the price! Anyway, at over $300 for four people and the attitudes of the staff, I think one meal at this place is all that's needed.
What's Cooking Good Looking
Churros are a complete ripoff. 4 tiny little churros for $21! The rest of the meal excellent
Pete Daire
Poor management. I don't understand in this electronic age, how a restaurant can run on paper based ordering, especially if they can't get it right.<br/>The manager looked like he was about to blow an artery trying to keep everything under control and the chefs, with their open window plan, looked like they wanted to kill.<br/>Their "special" chimichurra sauce tasted like arse, and the meat was so very expensive. I asked for mine to be blue, because I love a steak with the bell still ringing.<br/>Turns out, that this famous steakhouse do not realise that a blue steak is needed to be slightly cooked from room temperature. Mine was still refrigerated in the middle.<br/>Poor form. And at the price, will not be coming back.
Woks Next
Waste of money for poor quality. We went recently, meat was bland, not much flavour and the waitress got my sauce wrong. She got the languages mixed up on the menu and didn't know the difference!!! When you are paying big $$$ you want them to know their job & which sauce is which so you don't get heart burn and to give you what you ordered! Will never go back & neither will our friends... Money for nothing.
Nikki Bennett
First visit to Adelaide and a friend recommended this place. It didn't disappoint. My eye fillet was beautifully tender, our waiter attentive. The complimentary port at the end of the meal was a nice touch. Not entirely sure why we got that, it could have been because another waitress delivered our side to the wrong table, but that was quickly rectified thanks to the attentive waiter. Yes it's expensive and I've read a couple of reviews complaining about the price but it was packed by the time we left and its not a small place so i don't blame the owners for maximising. It's simple supply and demand. I'd eat there again.

Consistency needs to be addressed. I revisited Gaucho's again for a business lunch this week. The restaurant is always so alive on a Friday whether it be the mellow hums of business discussions for lunch or the more enthusiastic dinner diners gathering for the start of their weekend. As the weather was a bit drizzly and windy, we sat inside, but the ambiance of both the inside and outdoor seating areas of Gaucho's is always comforting and pleasant. <br/><br/>I ordered the New York Porterhouse and my guest had the scotch fillet, while we shared a pear and radicchio salad and ciabatta with dukkha between us. The ciabatta was pleasant enough but the dukkah served with olive oil and balsamic was beautifully flavoured and had a great balance of the spices and crunch from the dukkah and the sweetness of the balsamic. The salad, although simple, is one I would recommend to anyone having steaks at Gaucho's. It cuts through the Char Grill flavours of the steak and leaves your palate refreshed after the meal. Moving on to the reason that people go to Gaucho's, the steaks. Once again, I find inconsistency between visits and between individual meals every time over the last couple of years visiting Gaucho's. There is no doubt, they use a high quality of meat and the meat itself is exquisite. The problem I have with Gaucho's is there failure to get the degree of cooking, in my case and my guest, we both asked for medium rare, and also the amount of resting time for the steak. My guest's steak was medium, and mine was bordering on rare. To be honest. I don't mind a steak anywhere between rare to medium, but I expect from a place like Gaucho's who have a name for steak to be able to get this spot on every time. Resting is also something that can vary from chef to chef. Other than this the service was great and the food in general is great. I will always return to Gaucho's, I guess I will just have to live with the fact that it may be a lucky draw when it comes to the perfect steak.<br/><br/>Gaucho's can get quite busy in the evenings especially on the weekends, so making a booking would be well recommended.
Vincent George
I was very disappointed. Ordered a medium rare steak and it came out blue. Service was terrible - no one checked asking how our meals were, and we had to ask three times for our bottle of wine to be decanted. Not acceptable when you're paying this much.
Hungry Tum
Ordinary, expensive, NO MORE!. I have been coming to Gauchos with a group of 8-10 friends at least once per year for a long time. But enough is enough. The prices have gotten ridiculously high, the meat is average and the service was particularly slow. We also had to send back a few dishes to be cooked again as they have a tendency to overcooking the meat. I'm not going back again - next time I will try somewhere else.
Yorkie_Traveller
OK but a little overpriced. Went here for an evening meal while away in Adelaide for the weekend. <br/>Had a wander up and down Gouger St and liked the look of Gaucho, it also seemed to get good reviews so decided to give it a go.<br/>Service was good throughout. The food was good, we both had steaks though we did think that they were very stingy with the ‘sliced potatoes’ which accompanied the steaks, they were tasty but it was like they had only given us one portion to share not each. The sting in the tail for us was the $20 corkage for one bottle of wine! I appreciate Gaucho is more formal than casual dining, but $20 for corkage just too much, yes I know, we should have checked first, we just didn’t expect it to be that much! Dessert was nice, but not really worth $20.<br/>Overall, a nice meal but a little overpriced for what it was.
David
Good venue. Great steak, well cooked (rare), good wine, nice atmosphere, polite and friendly staff.

Never dissapoints. I've been to Gaucho's a few times now & its one of the best steak's I've had in Adelaide. The atmosphere is cosy & the staff are friendly & helping. Another good dish to share is the Parrillada de Carne (meat platter), a nice spread of different type of meats accompanied with a nice red & a lovely pecorino, walnut and pear salad. It was a pleasure!

Always a great time. I have never had a bad experience here, and I dine out with guests substantially, in fact, I tried to book for New Years Eve and disappointingly found them closed! The Dry Aged Porterhouse steak is one of the best I have ever had, taking work colleagues here before Christmas was an absolute pleasure. The service is extremely efficient, yet not intrusive, I have been dining here for close to ten years, and it is an Adelaide institution. Keep up the good work.

Will Not Go Back. Unfortunately, we took some friends there on a busy night. We waited for a table, we waited to get a drink, we waited to order, we waited to receive our meals. I can appreciate that they were under the pump, but overall it was not a pleasant evening. We will not be going back.
Marcus Gustafsson
I went here years ago for Valentine's Day and I'm glad to finally have the opportunity to recommend this fine restaurant. I am however getting kind of tired of the Gipsy Kings.
Foodlover85
Disappointing. We went to Gaucho's last saturday night and had a pretty disappointing experience. Our steaks were tender and cooked to our specifications but almost every other aspect of our meals was disappointing. Our entrees were uninspiring and overpriced and the foods in each dish didn't seem to complement one another at all. We made the mistake of ordering desserts ($20 each) and they were truly terrible. In general the portions at Gaucho's are generous but I wouldn't recommend ordering anything except a main course and if you're a food-lover looking for a great restaurant, I'd recommend spending your money elsewhere.
MH
Over priced steak house. Many better options in town for steak. Not sure we will be rushing back. Not worth the hype unfortunately.
Alex McQuinn
Went with a group if mates for a catch up and some good steak. Wasn't disappointed, great steak and some tasty sides. Bit pricey but worth the extra coin as the quality is great. Will be returning soon.
Emma
Steak not cooked to instructions. Went here in a group of four last week - 2 had been previously and for 2 of us it was our first time. Evening started well and the entrees were superb. Service was a little slow (we suspect we had a newish waitress) but was friendly enough. <br/><br/>From here, things went downhill. We had bought a bottle of red for BYO and asked to have it opened to air. In fact, we had to ask on three seperate occasions before this was done. When the waitress finally remembered, she couldn't figure out the cork and had to take it to the bar for someone else to open.<br/><br/>We had all ordered steak for mains and sadly, only 1 out of the 4 was cooked to instructions. My medium steak came out rare, another medium-rare was cooked more to medium-well and another ordered rare came out blue. Furthermore, my steak had obviously been left to rest on the serving plate and was oozing juices before I even cut into it. For a restaurant that has built an entire reputation around steak, this was pretty upsetting. Tried to flag waitress down but being unsuccessful, we decided to eat. When she asked for feedback at the end of the meal (the next time she came over) and we said we were unhappy, she said we should have spoken up earlier! <br/><br/>Could not fault the flavours of the meals and the sides were excellent. However, we paid around $450 for 4 people and to experience such ordinary service and miscooked meat, I think it's safe to say we won't be returning.

No worries. Service was wonderful. If we had a dollar for every time the waitress said no worries we would be rich and it would have paid for dinner. Entrees were lovely - citrus cured salmon w cucumber sorbet and house speciality mussels. Mains were huge - duck and wagyu rump - but lacked the finesse of the entree. Wine list overpriced. Overall, great if your starving and can afford $100 per head.

Quality. Great food, service and vibe!

Visiting Adelaide w/ my girlfriend we went to Gauchos w/ my brother (we all love steak).. Wednesday 26/9. Had a table outside. I work in hospitality & extensively in the wine industry. Service was spot on from the word go, our waitress knew the menu and gave excellent suggestions. Wine List is well balanced and obviously carefully selected. We had a btl of Alejandro Fernandez Tempranillo. Fantastic Crianza Temp, suited each of our 500g rump, 450g porterhouse and lamb (which were all cooked to perfection)<br/>I have been to Gauchos twice now & still the best (two) steaks Ive ever had. <br/>Its not cheap, but its not meant to be!! You get what you pay for..<br/>Highly recommend & will definitely be back next time in Adelaide. Thank you.

Great food as always! Shame about the service, had to ask got drinks, ask for menus do we could order etc ..... Food always great but for that kind of money you expect balanced marriage of great food and great service...

Our party of 3 started the evening with a shared plate of ciabatta bread, dipping oil and dukkah. Perfect and simple.<br/>For our mains, the steaks were beyond perfection. Aged and marbled, decadently melt in your mouth scrumptious. The 400g scotch fillet was huge. There were three choices of sauces (additional cost). Or their own sauce and garlic topping - which I had was divine. Spicy and warm and clean.<br/>Another in our party had the Atlantic salmon. Again, cooked to sheer perfection with special consideration given to allergies. An item was thoughtfully replaced without any hassle.<br/>We shared a side of crunchy cooked greens.<br/>We finished the evening with coffee (described by one of the party as smooth) and complimentary port. <br/>Understandibly, we were so full, dRessert was off our menu!<br/>The cheapest steak was $36 for 250g.<br/>The 800g steak was considerably more. <br/>Most desserts were around the $20 mark.<br/>So yes, whilst a little on the expensive side, so so worth it. We did not witness any disgruntled patrons or food returning to the kitchen (except for people being so full!).<br/>Watching the kitchen work together as a cohesive unit was a joy - the quality control manager at the pass was calm but always in control.<br/>Our server Peta, deserves a special mention. Even though she was serving others, we always felt like we were the most important people in the restaurant.<br/>And, a nice touch for fathers day, a small gift for the dads.<br/>Well done.

Not Cheap but worth it. I never thought i would ever pay $68 for a steak so what the hell let do it, Turns out it was worth every cent... the service was also great. if i ever head that way again i would certainly be back.. Thanks
Val
The chimichurri sauce is very authentic.<br/>A bit overpriced. 38$ for 250g steak?? Its too much!<br/>Plus, they didnt let me swap potatoes for salad and the waitress was trying to sell me everything of the menu! So annoying!

Out of character?. I generally make it a point to eat at Gauchos every time I'm in Adelaide and typically have an enjoyable experience. I had not been there for sometime and was looking forward to today's lunch but was sorely disappointed on all fronts. The staff is generally knowledgeable and courteous, today my waitress was pushing their "hanger steak" which was a cut of brisket. When asked if it was brisket the waitress wasn't familiar with that cut, but responded that it was a "butcher's cut" and that the reason the public isn't familiar was b/c the butchers keep this cut to themselves. Yes, that's why we all don't eat brisket.....the butchers are hoarding it. The pear and walnut salad wasn't balanced with the bitterness of the greens overpowering it. The calamari was shoe-leather tough. Gauchos - if you need help ask Char, Char, Char how to serve a beautiful calamari. I had the ribeye, which was served rare instead of medium rare. Unfortunately size doesn't make up for the fact that the steak was tough and lacked marbling for being grain fed. I have had some great meal there, but am left wondering if the restaurant has gone to hell based on every course missing the mark by a mile.

Tough and chewy. As a meat lover, I was thrilled to give this a try but was bitterly disappointed with an unseasoned, chewy steak! I find it odd that I have to put the meal together myself as the meat comes with nothing else. Might be a way to amp up the price forcing you to order sides to go along with your meat. I'd heard heaps of fuss about this place only to leave unimpressed. Don't bother with Gaucho's!

Very worthwhile. Super friendly, efficient staff. Lovely meal, nice ambience!

Excellent. Well what a place. THe buzz was great and the food was something else... The steak was wonderfully cooked and the sides of potates and vegies were cooked to perfection. Something special about the flavours and the ability to cook with authentic ingredients! Yummo........

Worth every cent!!!. A truly fantastic meal during our short stay in Adelaide.<br/><br/>I was blown away by the price in the beginning, but once my meal came out I was blown away by the quality of my meal.<br/><br/>The steaks are huge and very very tasty.<br/>One of the best steak dinners I have ever had in my 40 years of dinning out.<br/><br/>One down side is the price of the extra's.
Mashedpotato
Best Steak.....But could do better. The steaks are huge and the prices and quality reflect this. But if you are charging so much for steak, why do you need to charge $7.50 extra for a teeny tiny dollop of sauce. Its ludicrous The meat is just served by itself on a place, then you need to add a salad or fries. Both are inexpesive for the restaurant to supply. Gaucho's in my opinion would be waayy better if they serve a meal ie steak and veggie/ steak and chips/steak and salad.<br/><br/>We also ordered the chargrilled calamari for entree, the small end was nice, but the thicker part was actually still raw.<br/><br/>I order steak alot, and for the price I would rather go to Auge for a "whole" meal

Amazing!!. Tried Gaucho's for the first time, and now i'm going to be a regular. Gaucho's had great service, amazing food and the atmosphere is perfect. <br/>We had a little bit of everything on the menu. Meat was cooked to perfection, seafood was delicious, salad and vegetable sides were fresh and desserts perfectly complemented the meal.really enjoyed dining at this place.<br/>Thank You!

I want blood!. Carnivores' feeding frenzy. The place reeks of protein and garlic! All in the nicest possible way of course. Lovely surroundings in the centre of action on the strip. Delicious meat fest. I'm surprised they don't do a meat flavoured dessert. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

We both had steaks from their premium menus. They were cooked perfectly. The flavor and tenderness wasn't quite up to the price that we paid ($50 and $61). We received a small bowl or their wedges to share which were nice. We had to pay $12 to get a side of vegetables. Overall, was good but not as good as it should have been for the price. Probably won't go back unless someone else is paying
Ilovegoodfood
If you wanna good piece of meat.... This is the place to go for all meatlovers. If you have a large group, ring up in advance and order the goats leg. So, so tender and tasty. The steaks are also good.

Steak or Price?. Good steak place in Adelaide. there are not much choices anyway, Sosta and Buenos Aires Brasserie are the two other that i can think of doing the same kind of thing. take the "WOW" effect out, where the 1kg T-bone from the grill, is there really much left? <br/>service i think is VERY ordinary, all the staffs are more sort of like a sales person that is working on their commissions rather than giving SERVICE. as soon as you ordered a cheaper beverage, your serivce is END at the night. including the kitchen, they all seems like 'There' just because of the 'Money', their ego are very high too. they think they have got the world under their foot. <br/>SERVICE, cost $$, items on the menu, cost $$, prices on the menu, ... does the food cost really cost that much?<br/>again, is a good place, its because there are not much choices in Adelaide STILL.

Gaucho restaurant in Adelaide was our first incomparable experience in 50 years.<br/>My Partner and I went inside gaucho and were greeted by the restaurant manager who introduced us to great variety of beef steaks displayed behind the glass in front of the grill where two young aussies were waiting for orders. I said to manager I want the best steake he has on the offer and he pointed to a 50 millimetre thick Scotch Fillet. I said OK we would like to seat at the corner table. The manager said 'no you can't it is reserved'. We looked around there were no customers in the restaurant yet but we accepted another table. We ordered, oysters and my partner ordered fish.<br/>We were having oysters when the manager came to our table with the menu and said 'so that there is no argument later this stake will cost you $90 dollars and we serve it with a piece of lemon'.<br/>He pointed to the menu;<br/>Wagyu Bife Ancho Reserva Scotch Fillet 350g Mayura Station full blood Wagyu, marble score 6-7 aged minimum 2 weeks
Source: Millicent S.A. $90.0<br/><br/>I was surprised by manager's behaviour, by the price and at the 'bit of lemon'. I said 'well if the steake is that good I have no problem but I would like it Argentinian stile with garlic'. He agreed.<br/>My stake was brought a few minutes later by the waitress; she hurriedly dropped the plate on the table in front of me and walked back to the bar where other waitress was standing. I noticed both were looking at us and laughing so was my partner after she seen what was on my plate. I was wandering why? I looked at the steake on the plate and wandered how a 50 millimetre thick Scotch Fillet could be reduced to a 3 millimetre thick schnitzel? On the side was a piece of lemon and tree cloves of garlic. Soon the restaurant was filling up. I dint want to make a scene, we were due in the morning to leave Adelaide for Darwin and I dint want to ruin our trip. I decided to pay the bill for what we had which came to $224.40 and while I was paying I asked manager 'why are you serving a piece of lemon with steakes', he laughed and pointed his hand at the clientele now full restaurant, all young professional people, not grey head to be seen and he said 'they all think a piece of lemon with steake is healthy'. <br/>We walked out and ever since I have been telling my story to friends and acquaintances alike they have been chuckling about it from Melbourne to Argentina and Paris.

On our visit, the service was excellent, however somewhat presumptuous! The food was beautiful, however excessively expensive for what it is!!!! $190 for 2 course meal for 2 with 1 alcoholic drink each.......... Have had better meals at much less cost! Would NOT recommend!!!!!!!!
Ian
Great. Had a buzz about the place. Food excellent, staff faultless.
Homerofbrisbane
Good stuff!. Diablo oysters and then the 800g rib on the bone. Then no room for dessert. Lucky I shared it with the wife otherwise meat sweat would start forming. Maybe it was a cold night so the plate didn't stay warm til we finished the steak so that was a bit of a shame but everything else was as good as it gets!
Bandit
Only one word can describe this place - AMAZING! Finally a restaurant that serves up a beautiful meal at a reasonable price. Will go back again and again - well done!!
David Alexander Knox
Amazing. Gaucho's has been busting it out on Gouger for yonks! There is a reason for this though, the food, wine and service has been on top of it's game the whole time. If you love meat, then this place will blow your mind!

Relaxing | Delicious food | Excellent Service. I've heard many comments about this restaurant describing Gaucho's to have the best steak in SA. Well first off, I must say, the quality of service was excellent! The waitress was well educated. All questions answered! I also ordered there prawns and oh!...... Probably the best prawns I've tasted. Steak was also cook beautifully! My first time experience was amazing!
Uncle Jesse
Best steak in Australia. I dine at Goucho's every time i come to Adelaide. The food is just fantastic and to die for. Cant wait to come over to SA again.
Martina
Very tasty, clean food. And a Passionfruit Pavlova to die for. Nice place!

Delicious. Their kitchen closes @ 10pm and we called up just before and asked if we could come in. They said 'Of course!', we arrived about 20 minutes later and the service was impeccable. We ordered Oysters Diablo and some beautiful wine to start. Everything was astoundingly delicious.<br/><br/>The steaks were cooked beautifully and we were all very happy. If you want to enjoy a great steak without holding back, I highly recommend Gaucho's :)

The boss was happy. My boss was in town and wanted a good steak. Tossing up between Gaucho's and Sosta I went with with Gaucho's. We started with the diablo oysters and a couple of other entree's to share. We finished the Diablo's in seconds. Best oyster dish in SA. The steaks were cooked to perfection and left no room for dessert ....and a great Langmeil red (the valley floor) took the total experience to the next level. Recommended to impress the meat loving boss.

Best steak I"ve had in a long time. Decent service, loud. Good for a work dinner

Staff training. 3 diners 1 steak inc orrectly cooked. Our 1st waitress (one of many of this dissjointed service style) not only had difficulty reading the "specials" board but didnt understand the food on it, this lack of knowledge is not the waiting staffs fault but that of the person who hires them and does not train well, pre service menu meetings please its not rocket sciene
Natalie
They might be renown for their steaks but I've been twice now and both times their have been awful. Both full of grizzel and not cooked as requseted. If it's a good steak you want you won't find it here.... Very dissappointing
Rachel Boyes
Great if you live steak steak and steak.. Also have the token lamb, chicken and prawn dish but not a variety. We had the 500gm T-bone between 2 with a side salad and was plenty and beautiful cut of steak. Book on the weekends! Great service Extensive wine list too hard to choose had a spirit instead!
Casual Diner
Too Much Iron?. Or lead...which is what you need to dodge if you go there. This place has great steak...probably the best in Adelaide, but what's with the underbelly dudes inside and the guns blasting from outside. I'd really like to come back, but you need to change one thing...the atmosphere.
Moppy
Very disappointed steak was tough and they are known for their meat dishes and waiting staff arrogant. This place has had it's day
Casual SA Diner
Never seemed good value, wine pours seemed small, always had a bummer of a night.

Vegetarians, repent!!!. If you're a vegetarian, TOUGH! No need to go here, unless you're on the brink of conversion. Everything at Gaucho's is about extreme carnivorous behaviour, shown by the fact that half of the restaurant is a griddle. I have no real favorites here, as long as it can be serve rare to medium rare, the rest is insignificant. The service is good, very international and not overly friendly, but who cares, I'm devouring beef here. Pricey, not for your weekly dine out or the weak hearted, but worth every penny.
Steven Doyle
Seriously this place makes me come to adelaide - best steak in Australia . Period.
Edward
Had to bring meat back and exchange. Ask for medium but got rare. Overall great experience. Fantastic waitress Kyna. She was brilliant! They bought out ice cream for birthday. Steak beautiful. :)

This place does steaks, and some things resembling steaks. They're still doing their "specials menu of expensive stuff with prices not shown." I'm recommended a steak, and the price turns out to be $59 - higher than almost everything on the menu. At least it's better than the $85 steak I unknowingly ate last time. :)

Char-grilled South Australian Spencer Gulf king prawns with saffron, garlic, herbs, lemon and olive oil.<br/><br/>The prawns have a nice texture, and an appropriately-strong charred taste. It sits in an oil, and is accompanied by cooked garlic, but none of this does much for the taste of the prawns. There's some basil in there somewhere.
The Feed Report
The banana has that strong cooked banana taste, and the surrounding sauce on the plate is like golden syrup, but slightly less concentrated. The banana has its own sweetness, which is greatly enhanced by the golden syrup flavour and sweetness. It’s hard to describe why this dessert tastes so nice, but everything just goes really well together. The almonds and walnuts, and especially the strikingly tasty pieces of strawberry also go perfectly with the banana. The dish just needed a bit more of the double cream.

I’ve been here many times over the years and I must say, this place has never disappointed. The decor is traditional, the atmosphere is vibrant and the service is excellent.

The first thing I have to say about this pace is that if you are going to come here, do not plan any significant meals for the rest of the day! Gaucho's is best known for its Argentinian cooked steaks, located on Gouger Street it offers a contrast from the chinatown that it faces onto. Due to the nature of the restaurant I would suggest that this is a place to go only if you are willing or able to spend money on the food.  Some might imply that this restaurant may be over priced or too expensive but I believe that in a restaurant such as this one you get what you pay for and I think it is worth it. I have never seen the chefs here cook a steak to anything but perfection. Because of the meat based menu you can feel like you have walked into a men's club.  The large tables, for plenty of elbow room is the first thing I noticed when being seated, which in a time where restaurants are consolidating space to fit as many people in a

The interior of the restaurant exudes romantic and high-end ambience. It is interesting that the kitchen is situated in the middle of the restaurant, dividing the seatings into front and back part.

The Bife Ancho (350g scotch fillet) tasted delicious and served with Gaucho’s very own tasty chimmichurri sauce – this sauce was literally to die for.  The steak was tender and juicy, with a bit of tang from the freshly squeezed lemon and some crunch from the chopped garlic.  The rosemary potatoes were  crispy  on the outside while being pillowy soft on the inside. Although delicious, the cost to taste ratio didn’t impress me. I really don’t think it was worth the $41 for just the steak – salad costed an extra $12, no thank you.

Established in 1985, Gaucho's offers many dishes that Argentinian cuisine is best known for: beef, pork and an elaborate selection of grilled meat dishes. The name Gaucho's comes from the original pioneers of Argentina who roamed the vast plains of the Patagonian grasslands, the pampas . Ciabatta with extra virgin olive oil and house made dukkah at Gaucho's Argentinian Restaurant, Gouger Street, Adelaide The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating and with the warm, beautiful Adelaide day, we opted for the great outdoors. Starting with ciabatta bread with olive oil and dukkah, and warm, marinated mixed olives, we trawled through the extensive menu which is broken down into courses: entrada (entrée), primer plato (first course), segunda plato (second course) and firma plato (signature dishes).
