Review The Greek On Halifax - Adelaide

Nate Jenko
This place is great! Atmosphere is amazing not too loud with great vibe and the staff are also really friendly. They know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. Food is to die for, many Greek classics and some of the best seafood in the city, and for their prices it’s 100% worth it.

Excellent, highly recommended. The Seafood platter was wonderful, Morton Bay Bugs, Octopus, Prawns and part of the Calamari were grilled. Amazing piece of Snapper, so succulent. Dayley was the perfect host. Busy night, it was Valentines day and Greek on Halifax still shone brightly. Thank you so much for a special meal. xx

Such a festive environment, staff and food. Seafood was amazing, perfectly cooked with care taken on each type. Lamb was juicy, pink and beautifully seasoned. Chips, and zucchini croquettes fried/baked were wonderful accompliments. Such an amazing night. Easy to find, easy to park, great value and clean bathrooms. Thank you

After hearing good things we went to The Greek on Halifax for my birthday the other night. We were welcomed and seated straight away with a bottle of water and were quite happy at that point. We perused the menu and deliberated on what we were going to choose for our meals. We then waited a considerable time and had to gain a waiters attention for service. It was quite early, 5:40pm and they were busy laying tables so a little grace was given. We ordered our meals and were convinced to also take a Greek salad to break up the meal which we obliged. The entrees came out within 5 minutes of ordering but were quite underwhelming considering their price as well as not being overly warm. Once finished the table was cleared and shortly after our mains were also brought out. I let the waiter know that my cutlery was also taken and he came back with a fork. Which by itself made it quite hard to eat my seafood and rice dish. In saying this the waiter was quite nice and obliging but to bring out just a fork when I told him my cutlery was taken, please. Anyway, I had the seafood mains and my wife had the Colossus. Both these dishes although nice, were also quite underwhelming considering the price. The colossus had salad on it and we were a little annoyed as we were persuaded to buy an extra salad for $18 which was basically some cucumber, tomato and a slice of feta. After finishing we were ready to leave but were then presented with the desert menu which I recommend in future be given at the start to help people decide on their order. We had a look but due to our luke warm mood we declined. Overall we left full but unsatisfied. Maybe this was due to all the good reviews and high expectations. We went to a cocktail bar up the road for a couple of drinks which ended up making the night finish on a positive.

Really nice ambience. Love the traditional Greek touches to the decor. Prompt service. We decided to order several dishes and share the lot. My favourite was the zucchini croquettes. Yia Yia’s chips taste good! Everything was delicious. Will try different dishes next time we go. Spacious restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Clean toilet facilities.

Must go in Adelaide!!! Mains are really well served and absolutely delicious! Depending on your appetite you could easily share a couple o entrees and a main with someone else. Service is great too. Definitely add this place on you must-go list!

My husband and I dined there this evening. I have to say the food was amazing. We ordered entree and mains. The servings were generous and not only tasted great but looked beautiful on the plate. The traditional cosy surroundings added warmth to the evening, will definitely revisit in the future. Pela

Great service - lovely food. Kids had calamari (huge portions), my husband and I shared king prawns and Moreton Bay ‘bugs’ - a new one on us. The chips were possibly best I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Beautiful pitta bread and dips to start, & olives were to die for. Only complaint would be the prices (but then all food in Adelaide is expensive we have found, compared with ).

We had the seafood metaxa and the bugs, the olives & haloumi .. We couldn't fault it, the flavours were incredible and it's the best meal I've had in a restaurant for quite some time.. We were made to feel so welcome and would eat there again .. Efharisto x

Love this place, it's my local. Great service, awesome contemporary new decor and homely atmosphere AND best of all fantastic food. Totally my 'go to place' for my work meetings and friend catchups.

We have just had the best cooked Quail this afternoon at the Greek on Halifax. Cooked to perfection....... We deviated from our normal Saturday lunch menu today.......everything tastes authentic and good but you can’t always find someone who cooks quail perfectly..... today we did...... guess what we will order next week?

Very attentive staff, followed by a beautiful meal made this a Restaurant to which I will be returning. Well done.

Hi all just had dinner at this fabulous restaurant with the family haven’t been here at all so I gave it a go I was very impressed with the quality of food very tasty and good quantity a little pricey but worth every penny also our waitress Ivanna did a fantastic job on suggesting what to order for starters and added extra on for starters and main she did a fantastic job very happy girl with good service keep up the good work and keep on smiling I’ll certainly be back there. Im Another happy customer.

Amazing atmosphere and great portion size. I ordered a valentine special - duck confit and mushroom risoni, the only downside I had with it was the overcooked duck, I’m not sure if this is how confit protein supposed to taste like but it tasted very dry and almost a little bitter to my taste. Everything else on the plate was flavoursome and I’m sure it’ll be a crowd pleaser. I’m more of a bland taster, so I’ll prefer the risoni to cook less with cheeses. Also, plating wise can be done in a better job I reckon? It looked rather messy. Again, it’s just me being knit picking. <br/><br/>My boyfriend had a lamb baked in filo pastry thingy. It was the best lamb I’ve tasted so far. It was very tender and juicy, and doesn’t taste too “lamb-y” at all, which is what I like. Overall the experience was very good, I’ll definitely come back for the lamb and souvlaki!

The perfect place to gather a group of friends for a Greek feast. We sat outside and enjoyed balmy weather and with the friendly relaxed atmosphere and authentic food, I honestly almost convinced myself I was up in Europe. Really loved the wine list and the moussaka was on point. A tempting looking dessert selection, but we were too full to give any a go!
Tamara
Went for coffee and cake on a Sunday. The restaurant was empty for the most part yet the waitress sat us at the door where it was extremely uncomfortable. Moved to the outdoor area after asking another waitress. The coffee was okay. The cakes were not the best. Better Greek offerings at the other Greek restaurants. Don’t plan on coming back.

Went with two friends on a windy rainy Sunday late morning when so much of the area was closed. Two side function rooms had big family tables full but main area of cafe was empty. Service was brisk n brash n enthusiastic. We ordered a broad range of dishes: swordfish, haloumi salad, spanakopita, Greek platter – goats cheese, olives. Pickles , dips, breads. Everything that came out was incredibly fresh and delicious. We were blown away. The cheese, the olives, bread, pastry, dressings, fish all cooked or prepared to delicate perfection. Best Greek food I’ve had in Australia, hands down.

Delicious food and good serving sizes. A range of Greek classics with a restaurant twist on them. Desserts are also really good. The decor is nice and the restaurant is reasonably quiet.

This is a place that keeps on giving. I’ve been here quite a few times over the years and they’re consistent with the quality of food they deliver. Great place for a dinner celebration where you can share the abundance of food. Everything pictured was flavoursome and cooked to perfection. Service was excellent as always. Fantastic and classic Greek food in the cbd.

I ordered a Seafood Metaxa to bring home for dinner, as I couldn't be bothered cooking.<br/>To say that I was disgusted would be an understatement. The sauce was a thick overly reduced cream, without a hint of Metaxa lacking in acid and seasoning.<br/>At $36 I got 2 prawns, 3 half shell mussels, half a bug, some squid tentacles and a piece of fish about 80gm. The biggest issue is that with the exception of the fish and the squid tentacles EVERYTHING else is imported. <br/>When I rang to express my disapointment in the lack of local product I was told that I don't know what I'm talking about. <br/>Having spent the last 15 years of my life in the seafood industry I can categorically say that the Bugs are from Indonesia, the prawns are caught between Australia and Indonesia, and then sent to Indonesian factories for processing and the mussels are from New Zealand, with Port Lincoln right here!<br/>With the exception of the fish, EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING is bought in frozen. <br/>I would expect this in an Asian restaurant where the cost of the dish would be around $25, but really for $36 in South Australia, at a Greek Restaurant where I would expect grilled fresh seafood with lemon and salt and not some mismatch of cultures and countries that was struggling to swim in a tasteless pool of cream.<br/>The staff I called then told me that they had tried to serve South Australian King Prawns but the public did not enjoy them. <br/>Surely the public will not enjoy this dish.<br/>I only gave it 1 star because it wouldn't let me post this review without it!

Ambience was really lovely. We had a small cosy room to ourselves to celebrate our friend’s birthday. We ordered the mixed platter and moreton bug bay to share for 6 people. The lamb is really good and cook well. The lamb chop taste was not very strong and you can smell the chargrill. Overall really satisfied with the service too!

GREECE IS THE WORD<br/>I very much enjoyed my Saturday night dinner at The Greek.<br/>Its in an attractive historic brick building with the dining area spread over many rooms as well as some outdoor tables in a lovely setting. Interesting & eye catching decor too.<br/>The service was good - there seemed to be a plethora of wait staff, always smiling.<br/>Make sure to check out the dessert menu before ordering your food so you can pace yourself & save room for a sweet something afterwards.<br/>She had the braised goat with mash - so tender & real comfort food for a cold night.<br/>He had lamb skewers on rice & enjoyed them.<br/>I had the special beef patty stuffed with haloumi & spinach. The roast potatoes were fab & such a generous serving too.<br/>The only slip up was the side order of pita showed up when we were half way through our meals.<br/>For afters she & I shared the cream kataiffi which was very rich & filling.<br/>When we left, we walked around the back to have a look at the massive chimney which is very striking.
Chef On The Run!!
Beaufiful food, amazing staff, quick service too!!<br/>We ordered for chicken liver and skordalia as entree (it was flavourful and rich).<br/>Yiros were pretty ordinary, baybugs were pretty good with skillfull presentation!!<br/>Deserts were above expectations!!
On The Chopping Board
In 2002, Mary and Stan Galantomos opened The Greek on Halifax with the hope of telling their family’s story through their love of Greek food. 15 years later, Mary now runs the Adelaide institution with her son, Ross, and they have definitely fulfilled this hope. Soon after opening, The Greek became known for exceptional food, their spectacular atmosphere and location on Halifax Street, great wine, and customer service that makes you feel like you’re having dinner at Mum’s place. Their long-lasting success is undoubtedly due to their combination of this warm hospitality and treasured family recipes presented in a modern, fresh way, whilst using the best produce available here in South Australia. On The Chopping Board (OTCB) was recently invited to celebrate 15 years of the restaurant, and all food and beverages were provided on behalf of The Greek on Halifax.

The Greek, on Halifax Street Adelaide, is celebrating it’s 15th anniversary with a renovation to showcase the beautiful space. The red brick walls and the tall chimney are what’s left of the old disinfector building from the 1900s, with the chimney seen behind the building.

Not too sure what all the hype is about. Have not been here for some years. Was a choice made by a friend of mine. In my opinion very average meals, desserts and service, maybe just an off night. Busy place for a wet and windy Saturday night. A little on the pricey side and serves could be a little more generous. Not the best Greek cuisine I have tasted. Would not return in a hurry.
James Warner
Went there a few weeks and honestly it was average. For what I paid, my meal was incredibly small and having to pay extra for salad. The dessert and the coffee were the only redeeming qualities of the night

Wonderful dishes, lovely time there! Will definitely come back later! The seafood dish are well cooked with beautiful taste, tasty creamy sauce, fresh calamari, mussel and fish. The lamb shank matches well with tomato and the green bean, and the smashed potato has an amazing bean taste.

Always terrific food and service and reasonably priced too! Thoroughly recommend. It's my weekly go to for a Sunday breakfast / recommend the Greek wrap :)

This is a fantastic choice on historic Halifax Street. The restaurant is well laid out with plenty of room inside and out; and the menu has loads of choices catering  for vegetarians as well. The service is so friendly - the staff genuinely make you feel welcome and valued. It was an absolute delight to sit out on the pavement area and enjoy real Greek food. The dolmades served with yoghurt were  soft and full of flavour and take you right back Greece!<br/>Highly recommend this place - easy parking around the streets some with no ticket required; food genuine and great quality; coffee strong and full of flavour; service top class. Definitely give this place a go even if just for a quick visit. I am  going back ... soon!

Coming here with a Greek man was always going to be a risk. He is of the "anything you can do, my yiayia can do better" type mindset, HOWEVER he thoroughly enjoyed his meal and the taste he had of mine. Phew! The starters of olives and the dip platter were great (best pita omg!), particularly mouth watering was the taramasalata dip. For mains, the colossus was divine with all the meat marinated and cooked to perfection. My special of the day was lamb backstrap with feta and olive mash and red wine reduction which was quite simply the best mash and lamb I've ever had. The Greek salad was simple but as it used the best of everything, it was delicious. Large servings and beautiful, quality ingredients. Worth paying a visit, even if your yiayia is a great cook ;)

Had another great evening at the Greek!!! The mixed platter was enormous and delicious. Lots of South Australian wines on the list, which is good to see. Highly recommend.

Had wife's birthday and the atmosphere was fantastic!! definitely one of the best in Adelaide. We had the Olympus platter (mixed seafood and meats) and to start of dips with pita bread and loukanika (Greek sausage). The service is something that stood out for us extremely accommodating we will be back you can guarantee it !

I've been the the Greek on Halifax several times for dinner and I can't fault the food. The flavours are so delicious, portion sizes are generous and the food is fresh and tasty. If you love meat you can't go wrong, there's loads of grill options to choose from. The dips and meze are also very tasty and it might be easier to share some of these with an order of a meat main like the souvlaki skewers if you're dining as a group of friends. There's a private dining area for group functions and I have had a hens day here. For the price we paid there was plenty of food to share. Sometimes because they are busy service can be a bit delayed but all in all it's a really great place to eat.

Went here with a group of 10+ to a work event. I have dietary issues and they were excellent at catering for this - responsive to messages, knew who I was when I got there, happy to customise to help me - A+. Food all great except my calamari was a bit average - but that wasn't their fault as I'd told them to do it plain. The moussakas and similar everyone else was having looked amazing. Great dessert menu, flourless chocolate cake somehow dense but not too rich. Would recommend.

Very friendly service.<br/>Craving for good Greek food on a cold wet Adelaide night, we opted for The Greek since they have good ratings. <br/>The place was really nice and kept warm on a cold night.<br/>For the menu, we tried the Chef's special Soupa (sour soup). I wouldn't have ordered it if the description said it was a sour soup. But it was still okay. We also ordered for the platter of dips. Not the best I've tried. The winner for the night was the chocolate cake desert that our server gladly warmed up for us upon request. It was not sweet and perfectly warmed.

I cannot fault the meal itself, however, the meals should cost one third of what they do. I don't mind paying for good food but this is outrageously overpriced. Such a shame for nice food :(
Peter Zeus
Food was nice, no complaints in that department. The only complaint was the guy that approached us to be seated made a negative remark about my wine (that wasn't cheap) I brought to be corked which I found a little unprofessional and uncomfortable, it kind of killed the experience. Probably won't go back.
Suzanne Sweaney
Food was tasty but on the slightly salty side and too pricey for basic Greek food. Maybe it is to cover staff wages, city rents etc. service good and attentive but the food standard not reflective of the high prices paid. Won't be returning. Rip off!

Slightly unusual visit.  We like greek food and The Greek is a, albeit rarely visited, favourite. Our Mr 17 is a very fussy eater and I am 100% confident the only food he might eat here are the chips.  He and I visited and ordered the greek style chips. They are delivered and Mr 17 eats a few after attempting to brush off the garnish (basil etc).  An observant staff member comes across and obviously wanting us to have a good time, after some discussion, takes the garnished chips and a few minutes later returns with two bowls, garnished and ungarnished.  Mr 17 eats a few more.  We get home and with the wife, ask him his rating of the chips - about 4 out of 10 he says - highlighting yup he's a fussy eater.  Full marks for great service to the Greek though!

Loved it. From the service, to the food, to the wine list, to their presence in the SA cookbook and allowing me peruse it while we waited for our meal. I let them know we had a fringe show to attend so would need to eat and run, the service was fast and the meals arrived promptly without compensating on flavour or presentation. I had the mousakka and enjoyed every mouthful, taste just like Yia-Yia used to make. Although I'm not Greek or have a Yia-Yia. But this is how I imagine it went down. The partner had the Yiros and my friend had the lamb. The lamb just fell of the bone and I suffered major food envy. That's ok, we'll be back.

Came here for valentine lunch. It was busy but lucky we've got table for two. There are two area, outdoor and indoor. Both are fine. It wasn't noise outside coz it's a quiet street. I like the decor inside. Staff are friendly, service was good. Our order came after 30min, not bad for busy moment. Saganaki was beautiful, bigger than other greek restaurant I went to. Chargrilled quail with rice also nice, there is three quail served. Lamb and chicken yirros was beautiful, just like other yirros. And loukaniko sausages was great, awesome. It was a decent portion and reasonable price. If you come two maybe 2 main course and one entree just enough. We ended up take home some of food even we eat like a horse.

A very delicious place. My fiancé and I had the 4 mixed dips with pita bread, spanakopita, the colossus and baklava. Everything was 10/10!! Definitely will come back again on our next trip to Adelaide!

Had dinner at The Greek on Halifax on a busy Saturday night. Great service with a very attentive waitress and amazing food. The servings were extremely generous and no one walked away hungry. Definitely a winner!!<br/>

Great selection of greek food, I would recommend getting the banquet as the portion sizes are excellent and you get to try all the different foods! the dips and meats were really yummy and also the greek desserts were a perfect sweet ending! nice atmosphere, would come back

Excellent, home-style Greek food in a really cute restaurant. Very vegan-friendly, too. Definitely somewhere I don't go often enough but really need to.

Best breakfast. Great breakfast and not expensive at all

Great Food and Friendly Service. Cute restaurant set in an old brick factory type buliding with a lovely atmosphere. We visited on a week night and the place was about half full. We were greeted on arrival and seated promptly. The menu has a good selection and we both had the lamb yiros. This arrived very promptly, was a very generous serving and was absolutely, melt in the mouth, delicious. We ordered dessert, with all the options available for viewing in the refrigerated cabinet at the front. The chocolate kataifi and the honey trigono were both very nice. <br/>The service was prompt, the wait staff friendly and the food fresh and delicious. If I were in Adelaide again I would definitely go back.

Traditional Greek Food - Underwhelming. With great anticipation, we looked forward to a Greek feast at one of Adelaide's more popular Greek restaurants. Our table of four were welcomed and seated according to our booking. Attentive staff indicated a memorable night was ahead of us. Our drinks and orders were taken with attentive detail and delivered with the most friendly and pleasant staff one could wish for. We each ordered the "Colossus" as we all wanted to partake on the various meat options on offer. Unfortunately what arrived was what one would call a "mixed bag". The loukanika (greek sausage) was the centrepiece as it overwhelmed the plate. The keftedes (greek meatballs) were a little bland (and cold) but the lamb yiros was tender and delicious. The highlight should have been the lamb souvlaki, a skewer of generous marinated cubes of char grilled lamb. Instead we received a skewer of overcooked TINY pieces of lamb. What a wasted opportunity !!! Please be more generous on the souvlaki !!! The prices you charge INDICATE we should get a little more than what you would get at the local yiros shop. Yes we ordered a greek salad and like a previous reviewer, we were not impressed with the "child's serve" we received. Deciding to order some delicious traditional greek desserts, we ordered between us the galactobouriko - delicious, the chocolate kataiffi - very ordinary - definitely not home made - very commercial grade and the trigona - very tiny, yes you only get one very small desert but heavenly. To sum up - the service - impeccable - the waiting staff should be congratulated, their smiles and attitude a credit to them all. It's a pity the food did not match the standard of the service. As Pete and Manu would say " I give you a 5 !" (Out of 10 that is !!)
Antzilla78
Nice but could be better. The meal was nice, the place/lighting was very nice but the service was a little lacking. We felt like we were forgotten about. Our plates took ages to be taken away, and we were given the desert menu and they took for ever to come back that I had to go to the counter to order or desert. It was a Sunday night and they weren't busy. Maybe next time it would be different. I'd rate them a 3 out of 5 stars. Urban spoon won't let me give a rating just a like and a dislike. I don't want to give them a dislike but I have no choice.

We finally visited The Greek on Halifax for my birthday celebration. <br/>Booked a table for two on a Friday night without any hassle and enjoyed a warm position in the centre of the restaurant. Staff were friendly and knowledgable. Food was quick to be served and very tasty. A deconstructed yiros and a braised goat main were followed by dessert - leave room for the sweets - they are huge!<br/>Pretty good value. It would be great to have more wine available by the glass rather than the bottle.

Deliciously fresh and tasty Greek food, fantastic staff who were very helpful when ordering and taking into consideration my food allergies. Can't fault this place

Highly recommended Food, Service, Ambience. Really impressed with my first visit for dinner and not surprised this restaurant was booked out. Excellent service. The waiter was attentive and funny, delicious meals that no one out of a table for ten could fault. Extensive wine and dessert list and generous serves. Went home full and happy. Can't wait to book another event to try the Yiros.

Seriously??. 95 bucks. 2 people. 2 mains. 1 greek salad. 2 dips. 1 glass of wine. Seriously? <br/><br/>I wouldnt mind but the greek salad for 15 bucks !! was in a small, flat, ice-cream-sized bowl. A rip off of mega proportions. The shredded lettuce on my main plate of yiros had obviously been plated up earlier in the day because it was lifeless and on the road to turning brown. The sliced tomato on my plate was over ripe x 20 times and mostly consisted of the tops and bottoms of tomatoes and had obvioulsy been plated the same time as the lettuce. Oh and the menu item said yiros with fresh salad. Shredded lettuce (iceberg) and tomato constitute 'salad' in this joint? Seriously? <br/><br/>Look, I am not fussy about plating, but seriously - did they just have to chuck the lettuce on the plate leaving half of it overhanging the edge? <br/><br/>Seriously, $95 bucks for this on a quiet night in Adelaide? They can't be serious. Can they?<br/><br/><br/>-----26 Feb, 2014-----<br/><br/>$95. Seriously?. $95 bucks for 2 people. 2 mains, 2 dips, greek salad, 1 glass of wine. Seriously? Disappointed. Been a regular over the years when I have ventured to Adelaide probably eaten there 12 times. Well went in on my own and sat at the worst spot and the only table not to be set. Crumbs and crap all over it. Of course I got up and walked out, probably NEVER to return. Very disappointing.

Great second visit. The first time I went it was average but definitely redeemed itself this time. everything was cooked perfect and great portion size with moderate pricing.

Poor service at breakfast. Waited 25min for eggs on toast and they never arrived. Paid for coffee and left. Didn't even get an apology.

An old Haunt. The Greek is an old favourite that I realised I haven't ever reviewed here! Its been the venue for a number of dinners and lunches over the past few years - and a supplier of morning coffees!<br/><br/>I've always enjoyed their food immensely and our recent visit, the usually family of 4 plus 2 more adults) all would agree with me!. The most noticeable dish was a Seafood Platter shared between my wife and my eldest. Well, eaten mostly by my eldest actually. Starving 14 year old boys excepted the platter is meant to feed 2 but for more conservative eaters I'd say easily 3 people. The platters are not cheap (especially if its all eaten by one teenager) but they are excellent and divided over 2 or 3 diners not unreasonable for the quality - no non-descript pieces of mystery fish and all fresh!<br/><br/>Other dishes enjoyed where the Marinated Lamb Cutlets, Yiros (infinitely better than the fish and chip store version), Moussaka and a greek salad.<br/><br/>We didn't have dessert that evening but their coffee's are excellent.<br/><br/>Once again I'm more than happy to recommend this restaurant to anyone!
Kryssyann
Feel ripped off. Dined here for a birthday celebration recently. While the service and food is of good quality the pricing is quite extreme! I ordered the souvlaki, which consisted of 12 prawns arranged on a small bed of rocket, cherry tomatoes and red onion. I felt like I could have whipped this up at home for a fraction of the cost, not really worth it sorry, if I go here again I'd probably order something different.
Can't Be Bothered To Cook
Reliably good. Saganaki, mezze, glass of cold white ... great lunch - always!
Michael G
Great food and service, poor value for money. Went here with some colleagues from work. The decor was simple and refined - and the glass room we were in would be lovely in some summer once they opened it up to the warm air. We had to deal with watching the rain coming down! <br/><br/>The service provided was kind and attentive, and the food itself was excellent. We shared meat and seafood platters, together with some chips and feta cheese. It was very diverse with yiros and other meats, a variety of seafood (the squid being especially good), and the feta was some of the best I've had.<br/><br/>However it wasn't good value for money. The platters were $100-120 and I feel that they should have more realistically been $70-80. The cheese and chips, too, were similarly overpriced given their portion sizes.<br/><br/>In short, if you don't mind splashing the cash, you'll thoroughly enjoy this place without reservation - but if you are more money conscious, you can probably get just as good an experience elsewhere for less.
Matthew Andjelkovic
I've been to the greek about 5 times and each time the quality has been exceptional! I have noticed however that the meal sizes seems to get slightly smaller and smaller each time to the point where today when i ordered the "colossus" and it made me consider if it was worth the money anymore.
Jimmy
Amazing Greek food and perfect service and it is my favourite Greek restaurant by far.<br/><br/>They give you great confidence to take your family, friends or business associates and to be 100% sure that they will have an enjoyable dining experience, like yourself, every time.<br/><br/>Whilst I now live in Denver, Colorado, the 4 times a year that I am in Adelaide it is the restaurant that I look forward to the most to dine in.<br/><br/>The OLYMPIAN Meat platter and the THALASSINA Seafood platter are AWESOME.<br/><br/>Thank You again George, Fran and Mietta - exceptional as always.
Robin
Nothing special. Normal Greek food a bit expensive and long wait for food

Loved it! The food was amazing and fair priced. The staff were lovely particular the main girl that served us I believe she told me her name was Cynthia when I complimented her customer service skills and knowledge on the menu <br/>Ill be returning there soon to try more of their lovely menu

Entree brought out after mains finished, and only after promoting. Ordered vegetarian moussaka, was brought mince - when I complained, I was told the waitress only heard moussaka and that I didn't order correctly. After being told I was wrong, very reluctantly offered an alternative. <br/><br/>Not impressed!

Very nice!. Entree – Had the Houlumi wrapped in eggplat with a tomato sauce, it was nice. Wasnt to heavy and was just a perfect start to the dinner. I could have eaten a whole plate of just these! Simple & Delicious<br/>Main – Mousaka & The Collousus, Mousaka was good but it was what you expected but a very big serving! Baked in its own bowl which is a nice touch, very nice.<br/>Colousus was a treat, the lamb on the plate was just incredible. The sausage I liked but wasn’t that great i found it to be a bit salty. The Beef was also delicious. Even the rice was great!<br/><br/>Service – It was okay, nothing to rave about. They forgot our wine but then when i reminded them they apologized.<br/><br/>Rating: 7/10<br/>I will be back!

Went here for brunch, quiet and peaceful. Great service (marli I think her name was). Food was tasty and filling. Large portions.

Great weekend breakfast if you don't mind the wait. Had the poached eggs and spinach on sourdough with hollandaise and it was par for the course. Tried the fruit with greek yoghurt and honey too and it was a nice accompaniment to the eggs. Weak coffee. Too long a wait (40 min) to get our feed. Another lady kept going on and on and on about her toast not arriving after 20 minutes, and no marmalade at that! The horror!!! But I don't mind waiting--it's a perfect Sunday morning in Adelaide, and there are worse things that I can complain about than my stomach grumbling a bit before the fantastic food arrives.

Undercooked sausages, tough octopus and mushy Morton bay bugs. so disappointed!

Kitchen not operational 11am - 12 noon. Really ? On a Saturday morning on the Clipsal weekend. We were staying around the corner so dropped in for breaky at 11.03am. <br/>Waiter " sorry breakfast stops at 11am". Ok fair enough so we'll have lunch. Umm no you won't as lunch does not start until 12 noon. Apparently the kitchen does not cook between 11 and 12. <br/>We were offered coffee and cake from the front display. We declined and walked down Halifax st to Hutt st where there was a big choice of breaky places - we picked the one that smartly advertised " all day breakfast " and really enjoyed it. Go visit Biga cafe instead

I will never be visiting again for a number of reasons. I would just like to say that Greek on Halifax is certainly not vegan friendly and would like to see the tag removed. None of the items on the menu were vegan, and staff were quite unwilling to cater for vegans. After an hour of sitting around they managed to to serve a sloppily made plate of fried vegetables. When asked if there were any vegan dessert options the waitresses would leave and not return to our table. I ordered the Turkish delight and asked if it was vegan. When the waitress returned she had told me that neither her or the chef knew what was in the Turkish delight. She asked "Do you read books?". "Yes" I replied. She then went on to try and find a flaw in my beliefs by telling me that books were binded with animal glue. The whole table felt awkward and I was offended. Greek on Halifax is simply an incompetent establishment with rude staff.

Amazing Greek food and attentive service. Would highly reccomend the whitebait and keftedes. Also try the dessert if you have room. The orange semolina cake is to die for

Wow. Great atmosphere, food and service! You won't be disappointed.

The food here is outstanding and the service is great. It's obvious why this restaurant has such a good reputation in Adelaide.
Stone And Loaf
There's some very nice food at Greek On Halifax, but it's probably slightly overpriced for the quality you get. It's still very tasty Greek food though, and in a great setting - the building has a good atmosphere. My only complaint from my most recent visit is one that goes for a lot of restaurants these days, and that is that one of the waiting staff answered back when one of the colleagues I was dining with tried to order a bottle of wine, telling him "tell you what, I'll just go and take the orders on that (other) table and then come back for your order, ok?" and then walked off without waiting for an answer. That's not how it's done and a lot of Adelaide waiting staff need a lesson in what's appropriate and what's not.

Fantastic. Great food, amazing flavours and menu. We had seafood and it was grilled to perfection. Service was friendly and efficient! Not cheep but defiantly reasonably priced considering the excellent quality. Good wine selection too. Only down side was it got a bit noisy once it filled up. Outdoor seating would be the best choice weather permitting.

Delicious!. Great place to celebrate my birthday. Warm, buzzing atmosphere. Food very tasty and 'clean'. Waddled out of there very content! Thanks to this restaurant, I am now interested in Greek food.
Sal
Really nice breakfast with good service. Eggs were cooked well. Would def go back.

Generous servings, helpful and responsive staff. Would recommenf

Great selection of food that hasn't disappointed me yet. The only downfall is finding a park sometimes.

I have been to the Greek a few times and been pretty satisfied however, after having dinner there last Friday night, I will NOT return mainly because the service was terrible! <br/><br/>A table was booked in advance however we were seated in the back, near the toilet on a wobbly table! It was squishy and uncomfortable. I have noticed this is a problem which clearly happens often to a lot of people. Instead of being prepared and giving us menus, we had to wait a few minutes to be given them. Also, we had to ask (after about 15 mins to see the specials board as we were not offered to see it).Multiple staff members came to us continuously asking if we were ready to order! It was annoying and off putting however, at least they paid us attention!!!! The waitress spilt our wine, was well aware of it however, did not bother to wipe it up! <br/><br/>When the food arrived, it was good. But we were left sitting with plates in front of us for a while. Once taken, no drinks or dessert were offered to us... We waited FORTY FIVE MINUTES for service when we instead decided to walk up, pay the bill and leave. <br/><br/>Food is pretty good but could be better and when paired with the crappy service, the Greek is not somewhere I will return happily for dinner.

As good as I remember. It's been a while since meals at the Greek but worth the wait, lovely mixed platter, great service and a better wine list than I remember! Meal took a while to arrive but for a busy night you don't mind when the staff are so attentive and affable. Bravo.
Maxi
Very average food...it's so over rated.

Great location, amazing food! However, I always book well ahead of time and despite this we are always seated right out the back in the small room with no windows and little atmosphere! Last night the same thing happened. We arrived, it was a beautiful warm night, the front of restaurant was open, and there was a perfect table right at the front next to the footpath. The waitress told us our table was, again, right out the back near the bathroom. Feeling a little insulted, we went to sit down. Luckily, we happen know one of the waiters and after he saw what had happened, he immediately came over and told us we could sit at the front! Is booking in advance and turning up on time not enough to be offered the best available table!? Very annoying to say the least.

Customer service. The service at The Greek is of a high standard . The staff present themselves exceptionally well and the coffee is the best and i mean the BEST, thanks Dana for that. Dont hesitate to stop in for a meal or coffee and cake.

Visited today to get a quick take away coffee. The service was poor, took some time to serve me, although no other people were waiting. It was also clear the staff was mad at each other, it makes you feel less welcome. Then it was quite overpriced! $30.50 for 3 coffees, 2 pieces of baklava and a biscuit. I ordered large coffees, when they gave me small I politely said I asked for large. He argued with me and I find that very unprofessional. According to him I didn't make it clear enough which one I wanted. To top it off, the half strength coffee wasn't half strength and there were no take away spoons. I will not be going back!!

Guy's I'm a south east south Australian spear fisherman and cray diver we had the seafood platter with my beautiful partner... 9/10 for fresh seafood and more importantly how to cook it, fresh and succulent <br/>we went in winter and sat outside underneath the heaters and it was hot! <br/>Go and experience the food.<br/>That is all.
Paul Gee
Service a bit lacklustre. Dropped in for a coffee today. Service was mostly poor. The coffee fine.

Best greek food!. What can I say, The Greek is one of my absolute favourite restaurants after just one dinner there! Everything about this place was perfect, from the cute chalk-board special boards to the gorgeous setting - still in the city centre, but not right in the middle of the hustle and bustle. I ordered lamb chops on a bed of some grain that I don't remember - maybe quinoa? The flavours were just beautiful and the meat was cooked to perfection. This restaurant is my first suggestion any time we are planning to go out, can't wait to go back!
Masterchef
Eaten here several times and has always been really good, but had a bad experience the other night. we were seated in the side part which feels like you're in a cardboard box, and the service was quite bad. hoping the food would make up for it but unfortunately it didnt. the mixed platter was cold and lacked any real flavour. maybe we caught them on a bad night.

Yummy food! the dips were ok but mains delicious. Highly recommend squid and moussaka dishes! Give it a 7/10

Awful. Visited recently while over in SA for the tasting Australia festival. Needless to say, we asked the locals for a great Greek restaurant to be told to visit this place. Drove around for 30 mins trying to find a park and then got there to be told you can only sit at the front on the sidewalk. We sat there for approx. 30 mins before we got served by a grumpy old man. Put our order in and waited for 1 hour before I had to ask where our food was..... OH WE LOST YOUR ORDER! Well, ok then told it would be out in a few minutes. It came out....chicken and potates...chicken was dry and lacked the taste you get from a proper greek establishment. The potatoes were also dry and lacked the authentic spices that usually accompany such a dish. It was great to be told that they would give us a dessert for free, that was just too little too late... Soming area outside was right next to the non smoking area outside - probably something they should warn people about.... another breath of smoke with your meat lady? Hands down.

Best and most awesome breakfast ever. No word of a lie.

The mains were si good but desserts were disappointing :(

LOVE IT!. This is one of my favourite restaurants in South Australia. I have eaten at the Greek several times and it never disappoints. I would definitely recommend the Vegetarian Mousaka or the Vegetabel chicken stack - both are DELICIOUS and full of flavour. Very friendly service and a great atmosphere.

What an impressive Mixed Platter. All I can say is try the mixed Platter. It was amazing. So much variety on one plate we could not actually finish it. I would come here time and time again. Service was great. I would love to do my next group dinner here without a doubt.

I'm not a huge fan of Greek food and having not eaten at all the Greek restaurants in Adelaide I'm not sure how The Greek stacks up against the competition but our party of four had an excellent time on a weekend night at this restaurant. We ate our way through the menu and the meat eaters and almost-vegetarians were satisfied with the quantities and the flavours. Would definitely go back.
Word Of Mouth Counts
Are they serious?. Colleagues recently spent $2000 on lunch at the Greek on Halifax. Service was bad so I don't think they were in a mood to tip, - but the icing on the cake was when the waiter made a point of chasing the organiser up before they left because they were 15c short! Generously they eventually said not to worry about it! Think they'd be really sorry if they realised which company they did this to!

Greek Goodness. I'm always up for Greek, so couldn't wait to give this restaurant a go. First impression was good - we were greeted by warm staff and the interior was cosy. I kept it simple and ordered the lamb souvlaki. The meal size was generous and meat tender. I also had skordalia (potato and garlic dip) with pita bread + roasted pumpkin, bean and feta salad on the side. All up, a most enjoyable night out.
Meg Bythesea
Food is always full of flavour and the meat dishes are generous serves. A little pricey but overall a good experience. Make sure you leave room for dessert!

Worth the wait!. We were a bit of an unorganised bunch, which resulted in us ordering at the same time as 10 other tables, and waiting half an hour for our food.<br/><br/>Luckily, we'd feasted on a quartet of dips and pita bread. The beetroot was delicious, and the tarama not-too-salty.<br/><br/>I ordered the char-grilled octopus. It. Was. Divine.<br/><br/>Not too big, but wonderful quality. Two skewers of succulent octopus, grilled to perfection. The accompanying salad worked well the with the salt and lemon flavours.<br/><br/>Will definitely go again!

Long time since I've been here for dinner but it was still excellent. The mixed platter was fantastic as was the pork belly and the collusis plate. The side salads are good too - not just limited to your usual Greek salad. Good service and good wines.<br/><br/><br/>-----19 Aug, 2011-----<br/><br/>The breakfast menu is great with lots of interesting options. The scrambled eggs were delicious but I wouldn't rush back for the omelette. We want to go back and try the other brekkie items though. Good coffee and good service.

Quality and Quantity. Two of us went and ordered a few Mezze plates. The food was beautifully flavoured and plentiful. Service was also excellent. Could not fault them.<br/><br/>Definitely go if you have a good appetite!

Simply love the greek. Had another great meal at the Greek on Halifax this weekend. 4 guys and two platters - one seafood, one meat. good ammount of food and great flavours. I know the food is simple, but simple meals are sometimes the best.<br/><br/>had my favourite fish roe dip with some pita for entre - taramatsila. i know for a fact that they make all of their own dips fresh in the kitchen.<br/><br/>service was great from a smiling waitress. <br/><br/>make sure you try the kota hpitidi - the chilli fetta sauce is really tasty. if wine is your thing, they have a great list of South Australian wines

Cute little restaurant. Casual decor but great food. Had a very nice night here treating my mum to dinner on her first visit to Adelaide. Staff were friendly and casual but still attentive. Up there in terms of good authentic Greek food and flavored.
Wine And Dine Me
Overrrated. The greek on Halifax is overrated, I recently went there for a big group, we were charged far too much for soggy pita, store bought dips and overcooked shaslicks. They even had the cheek to give us greek sausages which one can purchase from gaganis, they are the worst. Everyone went home hungry and with light wallets. Staff were not good they acted as if they were doing us the favour of letting us eat there!! All in all would not recommend this place, would not go back there, it is not what Greek food is about at all.

Love this place. I really love this place, it has such a nice vibe to it. I particularly like to sit outside when the weather is nice and unlike many places when you are outside you get just as much attention from staff as you would inside. The staff really are a great asset to the place as they make you feel very welcome.<br/><br/>I have always been happy with the food and drinks that I've ordered, they have a nice selection of Greek cakes to experience. If you like Greek food this is the place to go in Adelaide I doubt that you will be disappointed!

We went for the platters: seafood and meat and they were very good with the seafood platter being a standout (chargrilled morten bay bugs, octopus, etc). Service was very good and the cream kataifi was excellent! Well done to Greek on Halifax - a most pleasurable dining experience!
Mike
Best Greek in Adelaide. We made a meal of the traditional Greek meze dishes and dessert and apart from over-ordering (eyes bigger than my stomach) the meal was delicious.

Lovely food and cute waiters

Greek food tends to be simple, whereas I'm personally looking for complex tastes, so I'm not much of a fan of Greek food.<br/><br/>However, I've heard that it's ok to smash your plate on the ground if you don't like your food. :)
The Feed Report
...cheesy top has a nice crisp, and the winy white sauce is stodgy and salty, in a good way. Part of what makes this taste good is probably its lack if vegetables. There's a bit of potato, and some slices of eggplant, but not a huge amount else. It's just salty white sauce, meat, and potato. I think the sprigs of lettuce are supposed to vector vegetable component here.

Located on Halifax street, this place offers all your traditional Greek favourites as well as a few modern ones.
Delicious Please
Never having been a great fan of Greek food, I walked into The Greek pretty tentatively despite looking at their menu online before.  The only things which used to come to my mind when I thought of Greek food was feta cheese, and I really don't like feta cheese. But I am glad to say that my mind has been changed and I can't wait to try more Greek food. I actually went to The Greek twice within a few weeks, so I'll be combining both experiences into one.  Both times I shared the entree/s and main course/s with the rest of my friends.  As most people already know, sharing is much better than individually because you get to try out a greater variety.  And also, if you don't like one of the dishes, you can just not eat it. First Time The first time I went, we ordered revithopites (patties made of of chickpeas, capsicum and herb)  which came with a yoghurt dipping sauce, krokettes (zucchini and cheese croquettes) and the moussaka. Krokettes: $15 I didn't try the krokettes as my friend, bein

I think the name pretty much says it all. Located on Halifax Street in the middle of the CBD was this Greek restaurant. Beautiful settings outside with the big white umbrellas, or if you prefer, there are indoor sittings, or there is a private room capable to hold a function. There are plenty of parking spaces along Halifax Street. I have been here for breakfast, brunch and dinner, but this time I am mainly going to blog about the breakfast here. <br/>

I wanted to give this place a good workout, I ordered a ristretto and a latté. The ristretto was a bit burnt, I'll play fair and say it wasn't on the menu so I guess I took them by surprise. The latté was better, very light. Very very light. Milk was perfect but a tad watery. The roast was rich and bitter, I think I mistook The Greek as a coffee place, clearly they are food focused.
Date Nights Adelaide
Looking back at the menu, I can’t actually remember what I ordered. I have a feeling it may not be on their current menu. It was basically lamb and vegetables, but that was some damn tender lamb and some damn good vegetables. It tasted almost like a home cooked meal, but with a touch of fancy. Like if one of your parents was a chef, that’s how your home cooked meal would taste.

No big fat Greeks or weddings happened that day but we did walk into a comfy Greek atmosphere with lots of sweets displayed at the front counter, easily tempting bypassers. Resistance paid off but I will be back one day for an evening dessert splurge:p There are not many options to choose from for breakfast which made it easier for us to quickly select what we wanted. Service was efficient and in terms of food portions, let's just say I struggled to finish the remaining 20% on my plate. Greek breakfast with spinach leaves, poached eggs, sourdough bread, haloumi, sauteed mushrooms, tomatoes and bacon pieces. A pretty standard breakfast choice that allows you to have a bit of everything. Halifax scrambled eggs~ Eggs scrambled with potato, mushroom, spring onion and diced bacon. Pinched some of this off somebody's plate and I found it interesting how the chef was able to fit all those ingredients into the scrambled eggs. Definitely a different scrambled eggs version that fills you up and

Never really knew what moreton bay bugs were until I came here and I reckon it’s something like crayfish? It was half cooked and half sashimi but just plain awesome and fresh!

Things to be considered when catching up with friends on a cold FREEZING winter’s night. - fantastic (hot) food - warm atmosphere - easy parking - great company - a glass of red With the given brief, C booked us in for a small bite at the Greek on Halifax on Hutt Street with our intention of grabbing dessert after, so the hard task was to not over order which is a common occurrence with us!
