Wonderful service and delicious food!
I really wanted some vegan dessert and was pleasantly surprised here. My partner was more than satisfied with his beef dish and my garlic bok choy was full of flavour also. My favourite meal was the black & red vegan dessert. The highlight of the night was definitely the outstanding service from all the staff. Our waitress was still in training and so was evidently a little nervous but did a fantastic job.
Every time I come here it just gets better and better. The food is legit soul food. There is something for everyone! vegans, vegos and meat lovers. From the melt in your mouth fish to the salt and pepper tofu I can not fault it. The staff always go above and beyond and make us feel like family. Keep up the amazing work guys!
3 of us went to hut & soul for spontaneous dinner, booked the table through dimmi and was offered 20% discount!
We had the avocado fries, flying bread (roti canai), butter cereal prawn, grilled barramundi and sambal kang kong (special) as well as desserts.
The food was served rather quickly, staff were very attentive and helpful. The food was absolutely amazing! We cleaned out every dish that was served, as asians ourselves we must comment that the food contained a lot of authenticity and flavour, must be cooked with love!
Delicious meal and absolutely beautiful dining experience! The staff were gorgeous and the chef went above and beyond to cater for my peanut as shellfish allergies. I really wanted the "Dirty Duck" which is fried in the same oil as shellfish. I thought I would need to order an alternative meal however the chef kindly changed all the oil, cleaned everything and started from scratch so that he could prepare the meal I really wanted. He also came out to greet my friend and I at the end of our meal which was very special. Thank you for the lovely meal and outstanding customer service!
I will definitely be back! The food was so authentic and I would even dare to say -better than what you'd get back home! Loved their prawn dishes and the beef rendang was to die for! The experience itself was also amazing with staff accomodating for every whim and fancy - like when you can't decide between the B&B pudding and durian ice cream - why not have both! :D
Beautiful food and hands down amazing service and staff... had a great chat with the staff and some laughs! My partner and I are both vegan and when I asked for vegan options I was presented with a full A4 menu filled with choices, including vegan desserts! It was a lovely surprise to see an establishment catering for the vegan lifestyle, keep up the amazing work guys!
The food was great - even my mom (who's very picky over how Asian food should taste) loved the meal! + we're from Singapore, so we are definitely giving our stamp of approval. Staff are super friendly, and the ice creams are to die for.
Definitely a recommendation for folks in the area looking for a great dining experience! Guaranteed a return trip if I get to come back to Adelaide!
Service, service, service! The owner came to meet us at the door, so friendly and all his staff were fabulous! The food was fabulous and plentiful!
We will be returning for their Luksa on the weekend for lunch!
Outstanding!
Fantastic meal and unbelievable friendly staff. A must when in Adelaide for a meal
Great food and decent decor. We had the Chicken Gulai, and was pleased that the 'special oomph' was flavour and not burn your face off spiciness, and the dirty duck, a nicely tender meat with a crispy covering. With a couple of cocktails, that practically drank themselves, and finished off with a light bread and butter pudding the meal was both very filling and supremely satisfying. But none of it compared to how good the avocado chips were. A delicious avocado tempura with a citrus mayonnaise. I would just have eaten five servings of them alone.
Foods fantastic service is really good and staff are polite, friendly and attentive. Highly recommend trying for yourself.
Food was exceptional and the staff were fantastic in looking after our party of 30 people , would highly recommend !!!
We had a great time there. Amazing food , top service,
well presentations of dishes, lovely cocktails and great value! Thank you Hut &Soul for making my birthday very special!
Our absolute fave. Thanks for making my husband’s birthday a special one! The staff are so lovely and their food is authentic and tasty. And how about those avocado fries?! Will always be back!
Absolutely Amazing food, the cocktail was sensational and the service was warm, friendly and professional. Thank you for making our boys 13th birthday extra special!
Delicious food for dinner tonite at hut and soul...feel like home...fantastic service i ever been....lovely staff....i ll come back again ..
This restaurant served fantastic food in a friendly and relaxed environment. The superb food and great service completely satisfied me. The helpful staff were attentive and responsive.
I'd love to be able to adequately articulate how good our dining experience was, but I am still in a food coma and higher functioning is too much of a stretch right now.
To sum it up. Go there, eat the food and take a load off. You'll not regret it.
We are truly impressed with the food and the service here! Coming all the way from Melbourne, all we know about Malaysian and Indo food are laksa, satay, nasi goreng, nasi lemak, hainanese chicken and bak kut teh. There were simply not much to choose from, even in a big city like Melbourne! So we did not expect to be so blown away by a restaurant in Adelaide, but we did!
The first time we ordered flying bread, which came out super crunchy and flaky and was served along side a dhal dipping sauce. It's perfection in a dish! We also had a fillet fish curry, which looks like a thai red curry but may even be more delicious! The fish fillets were fresh, juicy, crunchy and soaked with the flavourful curry sauce. Yum!! Another thing we had was the flaming pork. This one was really nice as well, if you're a fan of sweet and sour pork. The dish was wrapped in foil and lit on fire upon serving, which was quite nice to watch! Our absolute favourite dish however, is the sambal squid dish. The squid was really fresh, the smell and taste is absolutely divine! A couple sitting next to us ordered this one on our first visit and it smells so wonderful that we said to ourselves we have to come back to try it out. And it did live up to, may be even surpassed our expectations!
One thing we also have to mention is the service from everyone at Hut and Soul had been truly wonderful on both of our visits. What we tend to notice in some Asian restaurants is that the service can be quite lacklustre, abrupt and sometimes borderline rude, but everyone here were really welcoming and hospitable. My husband commented that it feels like dining in a friend's house! The selection of background music is really nice too! Special thanks to the gentleman who served us both times (who is in one of the photos 😊). He was so friendly and gave us some really good suggestions for the dishes and where to go in Adelaide.
We would love to come back next time when we've got a chance to come back to Adelaide! 😊
Once again thank you for the great experience!

Only ordered and tried their Yee Sang and it was really good! Purely authentic Malaysian style and delicately presented. Staff are very friendly and helpful, explaining all the ingredients and their meanings.
In a nutshell, better Malaysian food than what you'd get in most Kuala Lumpur restaurants. The attention to detail in terms of spice balance and contrast is impressive. I eat here every time I visit from Brisbane and each time, the consistency is always impressive; sign of a kitchen with integrity. Standout dishes: Satay, Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Lamb Shank Curry, Prawns in Cereal, Rendang ...in fact, the whole menu!
Food here was delicious, with a range of classic Malaysian, Singaporean and Indonesian dishes. The decor is quite nice and the staff were very welcoming. The Singapore sling and beef rendang were both delicious
Being a Malaysian myself & living in Adelaide CBD, I had to check out Hut & Soul. I wasn’t disappointed. The restaurant ambience gave off a Malaysian feel & the deco which originated from Malaysia added to it. The food was great. I especially loved the Ikan Bakar, which I totally recommend. We had the crepe for dessert, another must try Malaysian delight. Can’t wait to go back again to try other dishes.
I decided to have a quick lunch in this renowned resto. They have a set menu for lunch which comprises of 6 dishes and drinks.
I had nasi goreng which was tasty, less oily, and had a perfect portio size for one.
Good ambience and staff.
I will go again to try their dinner menu.cheers
The Spot: I have to say, normally I’m charmed by shabby decor in an Asian restaurant, but in this case I think it does a bit of a disservice to the high quality of food and service of this place. You really shouldn’t judge this book by its cover.
The Service: I really rate waitstaff who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their recommendations, and this place does not falter. Fantastic information and suggestions to a group who are arguably novices to this cuisine.
The Food: entrée was the Malaysian Flying Bread, and I must emphasise that I am no expert in roti and am aware of the fervor with which many judge it. All I can say is that it was crunchy, fluffy, not drenched in oil, had a lovely chew and was served with a delicious dip. We wanted to save most of it for the mains, so we ordered two servings. Mains were Gulai Lamb Shank, Nyonya Prawn, a shrimp watercress special that I’ve forgotten the name of, and a couple of servings of rice. The lamb was delicious and fell off the bone - not too sweet or salty, but personally would have like a bit more heat. The prawns were a great contrast, tangy and sweet, and generous with small yet juicy prawns. The watercress has similar relatives in other Asian cuisines but its additions worked really well to add interest and texture. The desserts were what tipped this to a 4/5 for me. I did not expect their beautiful and unique presentation. We had the Mango Panna Cotta, Pandan Coconut Crepe and the Black and Red. Loved them all, especially the black and red, but I have a personal affinity to red bean and grains in desserts. They were all that perfect balance between sweet and savoury that I adore in Asian desserts, and I’m sorry to obsess over this but they nailed the multi-textures.
Would definitely revisit if I’m in town again to try other things on their extensive menu. Please forgo the PappaRich’es of this world and try this place.
Came here for a family dinner/catch up. Entrees were amazing, which was a good start (especially the avocado fries as mentioned in other reviews). I would seriously come here and just order entrees. Main course was hit and miss, some great and some just ok. Service was very slow. Fortunately everything came out intermittently so we weren't left starving for excessive periods but it made for a very long meal. Naan bread on the side was delicious, but small serves. Desserts were slightly above the usual standard you'd expect in an Asian restaurant. Overall, I'd give this place another try just to see more of the menu options.
Amazing service!
The recommendations from the owner were sensational
Brilliant food, personal service and an excellent wine list
Definitely recommend five stars
Really yummy food, especially the avocado fries! Well priced and really good service. Will definitely be back soon and would definitely recommend to others.
YUUUM! Went there last for dinner on New Years Eve and had the best time! So nice to find somewhere which serves such authentic tasting Indonesian/Malaysian style food in Adelaide, and also so beautifully presented! So many options on the menu too, and the delicious drinks menu too! I really recommend what I had - the Ikan bakar fish dish yummm such punchy beautiful flavours, and Omg the avocado chips - OBSESSED ! All washed downed with the Teh-C Special (Also obsessed)! ALSO, 5 star service by all the staff they were so so friendly and attentive for us, even opened the door for us when we left :)!! Plus, such cute decor inside and out, love the place! If you haven't been there yet, you must!
This is like taking your taste buds on a holiday without the big budget. From the minute you walk in the door till when you leave the staff make sure you are very well looked after, think of it as going over to your aunties place and you know she is going to treat you like royalty. They change the menu for the seasons but always keep some of the old favorites on there. The best avocado fries in Australia - if you have never tried - its a must even if your not a fan of avocado after trying these you will fall in love. If you looking for a quick lunch during work, a place to meet business clients, a nice night out friends or family, a romantic anniversary dinner with your partner then this place will win you over.
The food is traditional South East Asian and the flavours are not over bearing if anything its a taste bud experience - they cater for vegans with a huge menu selection and i personally can highly recommend Flaming pork, Sanur Goreng Chicken and dont forget to try for dessert the banana balls
Be daring escape the hustle and bustle of other asian places where you feel like you are being rushed out the door and come and experience a chill atmosphere where staff treat you like family and by end of your meal - you are satisfied
The food here is authentic. I tried their curry fish and flaming pork (literally flaming!). The food is just like how it is back home. Also really liked the bread that they served. It was crispy and chewy. We dipped the "roti" with some curry to give the bread a savory flavor. It was really good. The food we tried was exactly how it was cooked back home by an aunty. We came on a recommendation from friends to try their food and were very pleased.
Arrived at 9.45pm expecting not to be served as late.
Excellent service & food. We had Beef Rendang, laksa & avacado fries all faultless. I will definitely put on my favourite list.
Wasn't rushed at all closing time 10pm left 10.30.
Very good operation should be more like it!
Tasty Malaysian food. Best char koay teow in Adelaide (with crispy pork fat - just like in Msia). Pandan crepe dessert with palm sugar was yummy.
Lovely food and large portions (too big for me). The avocado fries are delicious and all the food was tasty and well cooked. Great range of classic Malay/Indonesian food. The service is really friendly and the food came in good time.
First time to visit this restaurant. We started with the avocado fries. They were divine! The lime really brought out the taste of the avocado. It was fabulous.
Shared a cocktail. Went nicely with the starter. The restaurant is BYO so we took advantage.
Duck, squid and beans for main course. Dishes were delicious generous portions.
We will definitely be coming back :-)
In my opinion, one of the best restaurants for Southeast Asian cuisine - was here for lunch with friends. The lunch menu was affordable and had a wide range of dishes on offer. I had the Mee Goreng - flavours were authentic and the waitress who served us was friendly and attentive.
Hut and Soul Eatery prides itself on offering an inexpensive peek into the magic of South East Asian cuisine. Formally known as Pondok Bali which opened in 1998, this restaurant located on the very end of Pulteney street used to be surrounded by bright blue walls and busy art work and was the first Indonesian restaurant in Adelaide. In 2016, with a new business partner, it has now transformed into Hut and Soul Eatery, with much simpler décor, cheaper menu items and a fusion of Indonesian, Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine.
A gem with Great Food and Service. We reserved a table on a busy Sat night, and was led to the table by a friendly staff with the menu and drink list prepared on the table for us. The candle was lit while our drinks order is taken, impressive décor, modern yet very soothing. The charcoal satay is sensational, according to the waiter, the satay is BBQ the traditional way on charcoal which is a bit more time consuming served with the homemade peanut sauce but we don't mind the wait (it is only 10 min after all) because it is well worth the wait! We had the recommended main course the Sanur fried chicken, love the tangy sweet lime sauce on it. The beef rendang is one of the best I have tasted, it is flavoursome, dryish which gets the full flavour and texture across. The waiting staffs are very attentive and helpful. We were recommended the Gago-Gado because we love the peanut sauce so much, it is a steamed mix vegetables top with the delicious peanut sauce and crispy crackers, a very authentic Malay vegetables. We were so full by the time it comes to dessert, the green pandan crepe looks really delicious, got to come back and try it next time. They had the DURIAN ice cream which I wasn't too game to try, we shared the Drunken Fig ice cream and it was simply divine. It was a really pleasant night, we are so glad that we chose to come here for our night out. We will definitely be back with more friends and try most of the dishes especially the flaming pork!
Incredible service and the food was absolutely stunning! Portion sizes were ample and it was a lovely experience to share the entree and main meals. The atmosphere was calm and quiet considering the restaurant was quite busy. We will definitely be back and recommend to others.
Honestly, this place doesn’t need any introduction. Everyone I know literally said, “oh my god, yeah, I loooove Hut and Soul”, right after I told them that we were there.
We were there for my FIL’s birthday, we had the banquet so we can try a bit of everything, and every single one of them did not disappoint. My favorite from the banquet was the fish curry and the pandan crepe, they were ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, but everything else were also 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼✨✨✨✨, if you don’t speak emoji: they were divine! which was also my MIL’s testament.
I love the ambiance and the service. Everyone took care of us really well. To say that we were happy at the end of the night was an understatement - We were superbly content!
Thank you, Hut and Soul!
Visiting for two days and discovered this gem by chance. What a fantastic meal. The staff are kind and welcoming with efficient service. The food was authentic and really delicious. Highly recommend this experience.
First time here and we loved it! The crispy duck and satay are amazing! Have to come back soon to try more.

Coming from South East Asia myself, I can strongly recommend this place for anyone seeking good Malaysian/Indonesian/Singaporean food at a reputable establishment. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. The ambience was really nice as well. It may be on the pricier end but is a good option to consider when looking for a place to eat on a special night out.
Nice, cozy, great ambiance, great value Asian food.
Everything is neat and clean. Staff are nice and friendly.
Food come out a bit slow (~20mins) for starter but very very good taste. You will be well-fed for sure :)
We have the chicken satay, the chicken was juicy and flavorful, the satay sauce was excellent with a hint of spicy, not too rich that overwhelming the chicken.
Laksa was also good and huge, my partner likes it but I found it is a bit light in flavour.
My fav was the Nasi Goreng and the sambal kangkong, realllll yumm and go super well with each other. The little minus point is the sambal kangkong was a bit too salty, but the taste is just awesome!!!
Great place to check out xxx
Excellent Roti, very good range of vegan options, attentive but not overbearing staff, not too noisy, good valued for better quality menu. Parking not too bad after 5:30pm on the side streets. Has outdoor option. Lighting a bit too dim.
Tasty Malaysian cuisine, friendly staff. Love the desserts! Must try the panden coconut crepe and the Red &Black
