We had breakfast at Public yesterday which had an amazing selection of sweet treats but I’m frankly surprised served me powered chai. My dish itself was a little cold, I had the avocado which was topped with kraut and fennel and two poached eggs. Kind of a random combo I thought but I suppose we have to applaud the creativity. The menu has some very tempting dishes but they were too sweet and heavy for a weekday
Food: Eggs Benedict was delicious. I thought it paired well with the ham hock. French toast though, was tough we could hardly tear it apart with the cutlery. Very very good coffee.
Service: Friendly.
My boyfriend was nagging me to come here for months because he comes regularly with work so I thought it couldn't have been that good but I'm definitely glad that I finally did! Exceeded my expectations it was amazing!
The nice space and fit out attracted me to this place when I passed by earlier in the morning.
Experience itself was a bit patching. The service and staff were functional at best and my tea was a pot of hot water and a tea bag.
I ordered a berry smoothie to start which was very nice. Generous serve and neither sweet nor tart. The hot cake for breakfast itself was spectacular looking and very tasty. Thick light and fluffy and covered in a variety of toppings it was so huge it defeated me! That’s a rare thing.
Very impressive array of pastries and treats in the cabinet too which didn’t go unnoticed when placing my order.
Food was highlight for my visit at Public so kudos to the kitchen.
I've always been a fan of PUBLIC due to it's spacious and airy setting and fancy brunch food. The place is quiet large with it's high ceilings, lots of natural lighting from the open glass front and industrial decor. Their menu offers extravagant and interesting breakfast and lunch items such as Blood Sausage, Duck Leg Crouquettes and Sriracha Brioche. I have played it on the safe side trying their burgers and Banana Bread French Toast - both which I highly recommend. Food is presented beautifully, although portions are on the smaller side. Also, being in town, it is usually full of business people on morning or lunch meetings. Staff have always been friendly.
Only downside is city parking is expensive and hard to find if you're purely just going to the restaurant.
Just had the tastiest Eggs Benny that I've ever tried! Great coffee too. Big space with plenty of seating, really nice staff & a short stroll to Rundle Mall. Highly recommend the eggs benedict on the brunch menu!!
I haven't been to Public for quite some time but having previously enjoyed their breakfast offerings I decided it was time to return. I was not disappointed. Love the fact that there are a few "not breakfasty" options. I went with the confit salmon, kale and poached eggs dish. Delicious. Good coffee to go with it and professional staff made for a great start to the day. The size of the dishes may present an issue for hungrier patrons but I was satisfied afterwards.
Great food, great vibe, great location with good staff but failed in using the disabled toilet as a storeroom. epic fail but something that should easily be fixed
It’s a loved-up affair at Public CBD these days – not only are owners Danielle Elia and James Tambakis a husband and wife team, so are the newly appointed chefs. Enter Head Chef Bradley Pearce and Head Pastry Chef Cheryse Pearce, a young couple passionate about food. Brad was Executive Chef at the Kooyonga Golf Club and has spent some time working under the well-known George Calombaris in Melbourne. He’s committed to creating simple, beautifully presented dishes – dishes that highlight the produce, are well seasoned and full of flavour. Cheryse is all about sweets, starting at Tanunda’s Careme pastry, Adelaide’s Mulot’s Patisserie, and patisseries in Melbourne. Talk about a perfect match…
Public CBD has been around for 4 years and is still going strong. Staying true to the concept helps; PUBLIC is a destination eatery for the quick luncher or the lingering foodie. That's a testament to the the owner, staff and most importantly - the kitchen. Public's kitchen houses a new team of chefs and it's lifted the game to the next level!......
Fantastic brunch here at PUBLIC! Reasonable price and it will definitely exceed your expectations.
Absolutely love their decor! This may become my favourite place!!
I had the best experience dining here! The food was amazing and the service was friendly and enthusiastic. The slow cooked pork belly is to die for!
We had an amazing dinner at Public. The 5 hour slow roasted lamb shoulder is just divine. The meat just falls off the bone, and the sweet jelly perfectly complements the lamb flavour. Duck croquettes were nice and crunchy. The mushroom risotto was a surprise, full of mushroom flavours. Will return for dinner, and can't wait to try their brunch!
Dropped by to grab a granola pot for breakfast on the go. It had vanilla yoghurt on the bottom, a layer of some sort of berry coulis, housemade granola, and was topped with a dollop of poached rhubarb. It would have been a very delicious concoction if the granola wasn't so sickenly sweet! I suspect a lot of honey was used in the toasting process. It did, however, make the granola super crunchy, which I liked. It was honestly way too sweet though.

On The Chopping Board (OTCB) were invited to Public CBD for a tasting of their Friday Public Wine Down menu. All food and beverages were provided on behalf of Public CBD. The Public Wine Down menu is available from 3pm every Friday and consists of a specially designed menu, cocktails and a DJ. As...
Beautiful modern glass featured cafe situated at Franklin st - the slightly easier part of city to get a car park. The cafe used to only open mon to fri till 5pm, but now Friday on will turn into a pub (make sure to check t out) and sat open for brunch too. This cafe is really spacious and have plenty of seats available. I have make a reservation - staffs were good to ask if you wanted a normal seat or the booth, of course I choose the booth. It was spacious enough and very comfy.
Services - there is a longgg queue at the counter waiting to order when I arrived even during weekday. However, that only applies for take away. If you are dining in, the staffs will come and take your order at the table. Staffs are pretty friendly, attentive and helpful. Food and drinks services are moderately fast considering the amount of people in the cafe.
Food - the way they cook their eggs were perfect for me. The scramble eggs were just cook to perfection, tasty and moist, it's not overcook and dry. The poached eggs I order for eggs benedict was the star. The egg yolk was not too runny or overcook, it is best served with hollandaise sauce and sourdough toastie. They also served a 12 hour slow cook pork on a ciabatta. It was delicious, meat was very very slightly dry, a bit more sauce would be fantastic. The ciabatta was served as whole, it was too big to stuff in my mouth and it is quite hard to cut, maybe the chef could cut it in half in future for us which would be much appreciated. Nevertheless, every dish was very tasty and well seasoned.
Drinks - coffee was alright. I prefer strong coffee and more aromatic coffee. But this isn't bad at all. They also serves homemade smoothies. Smoothies were healthy and absolutely delicious. The smoothies combo sounds weird but the flavour and ingredients work well together. I would put my hands down for smoothie everyday from PUBLiC.
The whole experience has been very pleasant and enjoyable. Definitely would recommend to give it a go and would be back again!!
I have always been a fan of Public ever since I discovered it 3 years ago. It is one of my favourite lunch spots in the cbd and I always come here when I want to have a long lunch with friends. I was so ecstatic when they announced they were extending their trading hours and opening for brunch on Saturdays.
Public CBD is conveniently situated very close to my work and thus is somewhere I (Amanda) have visited on many occasions for lunch. The brunch launch now sees Public CBD extend their opening times from breakfast and lunch Monday to Friday through to brunch on Saturday from 8am until 2pm. They are also extending their Friday trade to evenings with a wine down from 3pm offering a small plates menu, meet the maker guest sessions and DJ to get the weekend started right! On The Chopping Board (OTCB) were invited to Public CBD for the launch of their new brunch menu. All food and beverages were provided on behalf of Public CBD.
Public, an upmarket café and bar located on Franklin Street in the CBD, has been open for just over three years and its owners James and Danielle are in the process of changing things up a little. To cater for customer demand Public is extending their opening hours with two new concepts, a Friday night Wine Down (3pm – late) and Saturday Brunch (8am – 2pm). Friday nights at Public will focus on the after-work crowd and feature a menu of small plates termed ‘Finger & Fork’ created by the new head chef Shane Piercy. Shane previously headed up the kitchen at The Sauce in Dulwich for six years, followed by Zucca Greek Mezze in Glenelg for the past three and a half years. In addition to food, cocktails and chilled beats Public will be showcasing a local food or wine maker each Friday night. The next of these events will be held on April 1st with their ‘Meet the Maker’ guest for that evening being cheesemaker Kim Masters from Section28 Artisan Cheeses. On the other hand, Saturday brunch at Public is about giving people the chance to experience Public that can’t make it during the week. Adelaide Food Central together with a host of other fellow ‘foodies’ were lucky enough to be invited along to sample Public’s Saturday brunch menu.
A contemporary, industrial-styled cafe with interesting breakfast menu and friendly staff. Decided on the pear and mixed berry bircher muesli, and although the flavours were there, it needed a bit of texture and some colour to really kick things up a notch. A palm full of roasted chopped almonds and one or two mint leaves and it would have been bang on.
Public must be doing something right because it has become a mainstay in the centre of the city. Conveniently located on the ground floor of the Australian Taxation Office, and an endless supply of government and corporate customers from nearby offices, Public continues to provide good food and coffee.
best breakfast and coffee in the city. been here many times food always great and so is the coffee. make sure you book and find a good park!
Happy discovery. Great food, good vibe, delicious coffee, excellent service
YUM!! The mushroom, pea and fennel risotto was amazing and was happily made vegan.
Amazing food and service!. Went for dinner on a friday night - the staff were welcoming and seemed genuinely happy to be working there. the food was amazing, had a few dishes to share and then dessert as well. The staff let you split the bill too - they let a table of about 10 of us pay separately for what we'd ordered. the only bad thing is that it's not open for dinner more nights :)
Great lunch there today, but I would have liked my chardonnay colder than room temperature. ...
Good coffee!. Great long mac! Perfect smoked ham roll! I will be back
Great breakfast and coffee, best in Adelaide
Normally I go by first impressions but for a while now I've struggled to put my finger on this place. First of all, the customer service is really bad. Please don't tell me you will come and take my order when you won't, and please don't take half an hour to take the order, and then another half an hour to deliver the coffee. The food has always been a miss for me, however reluctantly I've stopped by for breakfast a couple of times in the new year (it appears as though no other restaurantaurs in the city want to come back from Christmas holidays). I'm surprised. This I imagine is the work of Luke Southwood, a chef that I think is probably way over qualified to be dishing up meals prior to 3PM. Anyway, it's all good now nonetheless and I urge anyone who's made up their mind on this place to give it another whirl.
Enjoyable. Keen for some tapas, a friend insisted we make our way down to Public to fill the void. She is a regular and suggested ordering from the bar or 'smaller plates' menu. We did so, choosing the 'swiss mushroom and feta arancini balls' and haloumi to share. This was followed by the 'chocolate cigar' dessert; custard filled wafers, served with fresh berries, shortbread biscuit and syrup. The latter is a lovely blend of sweet and sour, not too heavy at all and proved to be the highlight of our dishes. Throw in a couple of cocktails, beautiful setting, attentive service and it all adds up to a terrific evening!
First good coffee in Adelaide
Fine dining doesn't need to be pretentious. I love Public! I have been a number of times now and have always enjoyed the food and service. I love that they are doing something different in Adelaide. For me it is great to see somewhere that isn't open all of the time just for the sake of it. The kitchen team certainly knows what they are doing. The food is of such a high standard but presented in a quirky way that is almost as if it's just standard fare.
My only wish was for a little more interesting wine list.
Thankyou Public!
A welcome addition to the staid Adelaide CBD scene. Lunch today - the Wagyu Beef Burger is the best in Adelaide.
The other dishes I saw going out looked amazing, especially the Carpaccio of Beef which I will be having next time.
Lovely atmosphere, decor and comfy booths.
Should give Pranzo's, Georges and Parlamento a run for their old money.
Good luck James and the crew you will do great with your menu, service and the setting.
Had a night out with the fiancé. We just had a few of the bar food - all tasted great! Chicken was succulent, aranchini was moist, and burgers were juicy and delicious. Nice buns. ;)
Staff were great too! Always a bonus.
Burgers and chips are amazing!!! Better than a recent trip to USA!! A little expensive but definitely worth it!!!
What A GEM!!!. Finally somebody in Adelaide has matched the interior design with the experience. Walked in on Friday for lunch to be greeted by staff and asked if we had booked. We hadnt booked, but that was ok, because we were soon sorted with a table. Next time I want a booth though. Anyway, staff were attentative, food was served in a reasonable time when the place was pumping. We ordered some entrees, the chargrilled prawns - which were huge and amazing flavours, saganaki - beautifully executed haloumi grilled cheese, lightly salted, and some freshly cut prosciutto with grilled bread. After this we had the chicken breast - soft and juicy chargrilled, the linguini prawns - tasty and flavoursome and the Wagyu Burger - which was juicy and yummy and came with giant triple cooked chips! All this in a cafe/restaurant at very reasonable prices. Table service is great too!! Definitely going back. Want to go on a Friday night for dinner......
Highly recommend PUBLIC. The food is very fresh and delicious and the service is prompt and friendly.
Attended a private function here and the food was amazing! great entrees included duck omlettes and crab burgers, simply devine! the decor is great and there was a musician on hand with some great tunes.
dinner was lovely, a crisp pork belly dish while others enjoyed rolled chicken thant looked pretty good too. dessert was such a treat of amazing little options on a large chopping board. everything was well presented in masterchef quality, delicate flavours that pop! would certainly recommend this to fine diners. not sure what the regular menu is like though.

PUBLIC does have some appealing pastries and desserts available for purchase near the counter. Besides that, PUBLIC is also opened for bookings for engagement parties, birthdays or special events. Do try their tapas if you happen to visit PUBLIC on Friday night.

Public CBD is one of the new comers to the Adelaide CBD business cafe scene. It's a unique concept, trying to combine the feel of a few local favourites, a modern lunch like Press* or The Gallery, a formal meal like Georges, and also a more casual feel like Blefari.
It is always interesting to go to brand new establishments, especially when they look as promising as Public, a fresh and shiny cafe/coffee house/bar on Franklin Street in the city. When we see that there are a couple of burgers on the menu, it really does make it a must. How does the new kid on the block shape up? Let’s find out. Venue and Service They are definitely aiming at an up-market vibe and they have pulled this off beautifully. It is obviously not just another cafe, with the added nicety of table service, but it has landed just on the right side of being pretentious of stuffy. There are some very nice touches around the venue, the decor is both casual yet almost classy, while the service is efficient and professional. Overall, a very pleasant place to be spending your lunch. The Burger From the menu Wagyu with caramelised onion, lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese, lime aioli served with hand cut chips and fried pickles. $19 First Impression It came out served on a chopping board –

Fairly big cafe that does a busy business trade for breakfasts, lunch and of course a never ending stream of people buying coffee.
Came in on a lazy Saturday morning, a great place to sit back and watch the world go by.
Coffee was smooth right to the last drop,
Breaky brioche had a good flavour combination but was a little too salty, it would be great to have something in the burger to break that up a bit.
Thank you for a delicious breakfast and for fantastic coffee. We understand you were under the pump… it was very busy. But staff were professional and friendly and we had a lovely meal.
A few vegan options here. I had the katsu sando which was delicious and very filling. The place was very nice, albeit a little cramped. Good coffee too. Lots of non vegan options that sounded good.
I went here a few weeks ago:)
Of course, the food was nice and staffs were kind. And staffs might have been annoyed because we had a pushchair, but they didn’t. They just made enough room for us😭 (Thank you so much!)
Buzzing cafe right in the heart of the city with an amazing selection of pastries that I’m sure you’re going to walk out with. Friendly table service with a great selection for breakfast. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and the serving size was more then generous.
Excellent coffee. Food is tasty and not overpowering. We came back on consecutive days just cos we wanted to try other items on the menu and we were not disappointed. I will have this any day.
Plenty of tables and space to sit. Coffee is good and food quality is very good with nice flavours. A bit on the pricey side, but the quality is high. Nice atmosphere and decor with funky house music in the background.
