We went there for a dinner in a group of 20. Absolutely loved the service and the food was delicious. Staff was quick, lovely, always smiling and very polite. The owner, Sukhi, himself came to our table few times to make sure our food was okay. Highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic Indian food in Adelaide.
Was in middle of fringe extremely busy. But that didn’t matter. Very quick service and absolutely delicious food. Had the Rogan Josh and Chicken Masala, rice, cheese naan and riata for 2. One of the best Indian meals I’ve had.
Absolutely one of the best Indian meals we have enjoyed.
Service is excellent and the atmosphere of being in the heart of the city just makes this place one of my top 10.
Great food with great customer service. Must recommend for foodies .already on list for next visit . 👏
Great food and service! Location in Adelaide city centre is really good too. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves a curry.

We visit Taj tandoor quite often. It's is our first choice when it comes to Indian restaurant in Adelaide. Service is pretty good. Food is amazing and have the best curries we had in long time. Staff is very friendly. Specially Neeraj who was looking after us he gave us very good suggestions about food and drinks. Overall we are very happy with food and service at Taj tandoor.
Wonderful place top marks for quality of food choice of dishes on menu is good and great service second, visit still as good as first time. Try out thr tandoori chicken best ever!
5 star meal. Such amazing flavours, excellent service and a great night out. Highly recommend.
Best Indian food I have ever had.. love this place and their customer service.
Awsom place and food. Well done to Van and the team.
Excellent experience every time I come here service and food really good..
With its cosy interior and high ceilings, I can see why there is such an establishment on the ever popular Rundle St. Entrees included fish pakora, samosas (which were huge!), and chicken tikka. Mains included lamb korma, butter chicken, garlic naan, cheese naan, and roti (butter). The service was a bit slow, but cannot fault the quality of the food given the price and generous portion sizes. For a seemingly high end restaurant dishing up authentic Indian curries and Tandoori food, this place deserves more recognition!
Great dhal and Devine lamb tandoori. Well done! The best wine so far called mother’s milk 🤪. Yes you heard it right and it is really good. Just drop by and you will know what I am talking about
Entrees: Delicious samosa. The crispy baingan seemed a tad overcooked, but the sauce on top was tasty.
Mains: Butter chicken. Tender rogan josh, comfort food. Special mention to daal charcoal, so flavoursome.
Pulao rice was good.
Fab naan.
Attentive service.
We overate again.
I'd like to return to try some of the charcoal grill dishes.
I had a complete vegetarian meal(as my friend was vegetarian)at taj tandoor.
I ordered for dal charcoal(one of the best dal in adelaide i ever had),paneer chilly garlic (which was just average),rice (was just below warm),crispy baigan (tasty and amazing but its sauce lacked flavour).
Overall an average vegetarian meal, maybe next time i will try their meats.
While I am a lover of all things spicy, I decided to go with something mild. With my guests going for the typical butter chicken, I chose the Prawn Dakshen. SA Prawns sautéed in tomatoes, coriander, onion and a coconut cream. Boy oh boy, I cannot fault this dish apart from me wanting more! The texture of the sauce was fantastic, if it were socially acceptable to lick the plate clean, I would've done so! Highly recommend.
Beautiful flavours and authentic taste. Being an indian and a foodie i can vouch for this place. The restaurant is in a heritage listed Victorian building, which adds to the ambiance.
Nice character building and atmosphere. Been coming here since i was a teenager. Never disappointed. I Don't agree with some reviews about food not being authentic. i have tried almost every indian restaurant and have travelled to india, and no one came close to authenticity as taj tandoor. Recommended to anyone looking to try the best indian in adelaide.
This is one place I have overlooked for many years. Purely because I rarely choose Indian due to the bloated feeling resulting afterwards. However, I'm pinching myself now that I did not visit them earlier.
Set in a Victorian building with massive windows that overlooks the east end of Rundle Street, it provides an ideal spot to watch the world go by whilst tucking in to some Indian favourites.
For a Tuesday night, the place was rather busy, good indication that we could be in for a treat.
Upon entering, the place smelt amaZing! It made my mouth watered. This is their instant saving grace because the interior was a little tired with light fittings that appears dated. The beautiful handmade furniture could use a lick of lacquer to freshen it up. I personally was more excited by the exterior.
We were greeted and seated. Water was poured for all present. Papadums was offered. Our fifth member was running late, so we decided to order for her, seeing as we will be sharing anyways. Entrees consisted of the mixed entree, chicken tikka, samosas and prawn tandoori.
For mains, we had the saag chicken, butter chicken masala, fish curry, alu gobhi and prawn dakshen. All acompanied with rice and naan.
Everything was delicious! The chicken from both entrees and mains was tender and succulent. The fish was perfectly done. The prawns was also spot on. Didn't mind the vegetable dish, but wouldn't rate it too highly.
For desserts we shared the stickydate pudding and the cardamon with pistachio ice cream. Being a non-sweet-tooth, I found both desserts to be sickly sweet. Alot of H2O was required to chase away my potential cavity.
I'm unsure why this establishment was rated so poorly, because our experience reflected none of those negative reviews. For a place that values authenticity and fresh ingredients, it deserves a second chance. I'm looking forward to my next visit. Best part, no bloated feeling - WIN!
Great food. Super attentive waiters and staff. Is now my go to destination for eat out Indian. Got sick of the same old flavors from Indian restaurants. Was not disappointed when i left. I think the older, negative reviews are not longer relevant (except for the TVs!!!). Try it for yourself. Awesome!
Best Indian restaurant in Adelaide. I have recently visited Taj Tandoor. Best indian restaurant in Adelaide. Very friendly staff. We were well looked after. Great great great food.
Great wine selection.
Must try
We popped in here for a curry before a Fringe show. We've been been before on numerous occasions over the past 15 years. It never fails to delight us...the food was quick and rich and tasty and great value. The service was efficient and smiley. The bill was reasonable. The vibe was busy and buzzing. Unpretentious Indian in a great location.
Decent Indian restaurant. Visited Taj tandoor on 12 March for dinner as I craved for a curry and wanted to try Taj tandoor after recommendation from a local taxi driver. Having tried Jasmine Indian over several times, wanted to try out Taj to see if it was any good.
Had the following for dinner:
Butter chicken masala - well cooked chicken tikka pieces in a tangy, mild sweetish gravy. Pretty good 8/10
Saag paneer - spinach gravy with cottage cheese 7/10
Roti - well cooked wholemeal flour bread 7/10
Pulao rice - average basmati rice 5/10
Service was good at 9pm.
Overall worth a try.
OMG, YUM!! Cheap meals, amazing service, perfect taste! The meals come out quickly too. Incredible aromas. Definitely a highlight of Adelaide.
Much nicer than some reviews suggest. We live right near this place on Rundle St but I haven't been there before - I was tempted by a voucher deal for our party of four. The reviews on this site are remarkably various and some quite hostile, but on a Saturday night it was pretty full with people who looked like they were enjoying themselves. It's well known that the manager lady runs a tight ship but this night she was in a good mood and the rest of the staff were very pleasant and efficient. The food is really very good (I come from the East Midlands in the UK and know a good Indian restaurant for sure) and there was nothing wrong with any of the dishes and the serve sizes are adequate. The voucher, which included 2 bottles of wine, was extraordinary value - the full prices are on the high side, perhaps because of the location. When we left the manager asked if we would write a good review (perhaps feeling the need of it), which I'm happy to do.
We went back twice on other vouchers and again confirmed their value. One plus is that the curry serves are larger than average for Indian restaurants. The beef curries are very good quality meat. We ordered an additional serve of rice.
Best Indian food in Adelaide CBD. Hands down the best subcontinental fine dining experience in the Adelaide CBD area. Great extensive variety in menu, excellent service and an exquisite setting and atmosphere. Highly recommend it.
Great food and atmosphere!!. I had dinner here with some friends, and I loved the place! One of my favourite indian restaurants in Adelaide! The food was delicious and the proportions were pretty good. Service and atmosphere was amazing as well. I highly recommend this to everyone, it is a must go to place!
Great Restaurant. Such a lovely place to hang out with friends as well as to go with family. Butter chicken is the best dish so far. Great food, great service and great place.
We thought the food was delicious and the service was very good. The curried fish was very tasty and the Matter Paneer was delicious and perfectly spiced up on request. We were there early tonight and avoided the crowds that sometimes slow the service down. Staff were attentive and very quick.
My cousin and I dined here for the first time tonight before we went to the movies.
The staff were lovely, the food was delicious and the service was excellent.
We were made to feel really welcome and will definitely be booking a return visit soon!
Lunch with friends. I went out to lunch with some friends on the weekend and absolutely loved the food! It was a great experience and the staff were really friendly. I loved all the dishes I tried and hope to come back for some more soon. I would definitely recommend this to others. 10/10!! :)
Best Indian Food in Adelaide. I have been to many Indian restaurants, but Taj Tandoor is one that always keeps me going back for more! My favourite dish is 'Prawn Tandoori' - very yummy! I would definitely recommend people come with their families!
Great food!. I don't know how this place has got such low ratings!? Everytime I've been here the food was been exceptional and the service was great. No complaints on my end here. I would say go there and experience the place for yourself, or heck try some other places like the ones on Scoopon AND THEN come back here.
Fantastic Indian Restaurant. The best Indian restaurant for an authentic Indian food with great taste.I like all the food but my favorite food is Cheese naan,Chicken Madras and Gosh Palak.
Thanks to the Manager and Chef for such a delicious food with great quality.
Truly a Fine Indian Dining Experience. It's not the first time we've come to this fantastic restaurant however every time we do it never ceases to amaze us with those wonderful flavours and the ambience that only a packed out establishment provides.
We expected delays this evening given the number of clientele however we were pleasantly surprised with the prompt and personal service we enjoyed.
The food, as always is top shelf and so reasonably priced, given the location in one of Adelaide's premier restaurant districts. The wine list was equally outstanding, which did well to assist in adding to a wonderful dining experience.
Thank you to all the staff....this is certainly a venue which will remain close to our hearts.......and appetites.....5 stars.
Best Indian restaurant in Adelaide. This is one of the best Indian restaurants in Adelaide. We have never been disappointed. The curries are delicious, the staff are friendly and always welcoming and the service is faultless. I would highly recommend the prawn dakshen and butter chicken which are our favourites. This is a gem of a restaurant and well worth visiting. The food really is amazing. You must try this restaurant for the best authentic north Indian food in lAdelaide.
Amazing Curries. Went with my girlfriend and my family for dinner. Service was decent, staff friendly. The wait wasn't long at all, considering the place was full. We ordered the banquet, the curries were fantastic, the butter chicken is the best one I've had than anyone else's, and the Rogan Josh was great.
BEST curry I've had in a long time !. Don't pay attention to the negative comments on here, maybe they went through a bad patch but my experience was excellent. The curries were absolutely delicious, perfectly spiced and the meat melted In your mouth. The cheese naan was delicious, hands down the best I've had and the rice was aromatic and cooked to perfection. Service was very good, efficient and friendly, the manager comes across a little stern but she was very helpful and clearly good at her job. You should definitely give this one a try we will definitely be going back.
Went there for lunch. The service was quick, waitress lovely and food delicious (try the garlic naan). The place was empty but really enjoyed.
Service is a bit shambolic, but the food was really quite good. We had pretty much all of the vegetarian dishes, some naan, rice and a salad and we were very satisfied. Good setting, nice windows too!
Great. Saw this one in the entertainment book. Service was great, food arrived quickly and was very tasty, restaurant is in a good location with nice atmosphere. The only disappointment was that some of the beef wasn't melting in my mouth. Overall was pretty good though and I would go there again.
Endorsed by Lleyton Hewitt! (Apparently). Rocked up without a booking on a busy Friday night. Rather than the usual rolling of the eyes and "we'll see what we can do", the young gentleman behind the desk was really friendy, and found us a table after a couple of minutes (while we inspected the plates that had been signed by seemingly every Indian cricket team ever...and Lleyton Hewitt). Whilst it took a while to get the table laid and the wine list, we found all the staff to be really helpful, even if they weren't assigned to our table.
Started with the poppadoms - probably the only disappointing part of the meal. They came with just raita and a watery sweet chilli sauce - which was somewhat bland. On request, the waitress brought out some mixed pickle, but I'm surprised that they didn't come with this as standard.
Also as a starter, the tandoori chicken was well flavoured and grilled. It came on the bone, but had been butchered to remove those gristly bits you get on the leg, which was a nice touch. Glad I hadn't ordered it on a first date though – chowed down pretty hard.
Beef vindaloo and Gosht Palak were our mains, accompanied by a single serve of rice to share and some roti channi. At first they looked a bit small - but it was plenty. Both were excellent – my spice fiend of a partner was quietly convulsing after the vindaloo (edible spicy with a hint of footstamping).
Great place for a Friday night meal and good chats. It’s noisy in the good, atmospheric way – so best not to come and sit doe-eyed with a partner, but to get stuck in!
Beautiful indian food!. Ate here on a saturday night and contrary to other reviews, we had a lovely experience. We had a great table next to the front window and the staff seemed quite friendly. We ordered the 'movie deal' which was a main including rice and a palace nova ticket for $33 which was quite good value! I had the chicken katsu (katju? something like that, don't quite remember!) which was creamy and sweet, really delicious!! My boyfriend had the lamb rogan josh which he said was nice (although a bit spicy for me!). The only hiccup was the waitress forgetting to bring out our drink order which I don't blame her for as the restaurant was packed. Food came out quickly enough and the bill wasn't dodgy at all. Can't wait to go back!
I went to taj on a Monday afternoon, around 2pm and was a bit disappointed. When I arrived the staff were shifting tables and chairs around the restaurant, which is fine, except I wasn't greeted at the entrance very quickly. The layout of the room is one where you need to be seated. This annoyed me a little as nobody else was eating at the time. I eventually got a seat when they finished moving their things around. I ordered the chicken masala, and a naan. The food came out quickly and the serving size was large. The garlic naan was a bit too greasy (you could see the oil floating on the top). It was still tasty though. The main dish was excellent. No complaints there.
Excellent Indian fare!. I loved everything here - we had many dishes and shared, but my litmus test for Indian food and something I love especially here was the Muttar Paneer
Delicious. The banquet was a great deal and more than enough for our party. Try the beef malamber.
Came here for an early dinner on Sat night. Was surprised by the generous serving sizes here. We ordered the deep fried mushroom for entree and 2 x curries and couldn’t finish it!
Flavours were good and loved the decor and ambience.
Very elegant Indian restaurant topped with wonderful service.
Would definitely return.

Was at this establishment for dinner with a date.
Excellent service - staff were friendly and responsive.
Ambience was apt - satisfactory lighting and seating arrangement for a nice intimate dinner, my only slight criticism was that I was a bit cold.
Food was excellent - started off well with some lamb racks that were wonderfully marinated and cooked, followed by Naans which were satisfactory and Curries that were full of flavour and spice, something that I don't frequently find in Indian restaurants in Aussie unfortunately.
To cap it all off, it was reasonably priced.
I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice place to have some Indian food.
Great friendly staff welcomed us in very late at night close to closing and nothing was too much trouble, their only request was that we ordered everything at once - typical friendly Indian hospitality, very generous portions for a good price and came out in order all hot and fresh.
I loved the traditional flavours of the food, highly recommend the tandoori chicken it melts in your mouth with perfect flavours and mango lassi.
Very rare to find an Indian restaurant that ticks all the boxes for me (given my father is a chef and I grew up in his Indian restaurants) I would proudly recommend the meals and service at Taj Tandoor to anybody who visits Adelaide.
Fabulous Indian cuisine, friendly, very attentive staff and very cold beers. Great decor. Definately living the dream. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be back soon.
Despite my food arrived in 45 minuets which was only single curry with rice and Naan Bread, these guys deserve 5 star rating fro food and service. The lady manager was amazing, kind and know how to handle customers. 5 star for her.
Thanks food amazing food guys🙏🙏

After a long time i found a place in city which has good authentic Indian food. We ordered 4 curries, all were equally good. Naan was good as well. Just felt like they were bit understaffed on a Friday night.
Apart from that really loved the food.
Loved the food, I had the butter chicken was delicious, others had lamb korma, spinach & lamb dish, chicken ragout (?), rice and naan bread. Would recommend a visit
