Review Zapata's Mexican Restaurant - Adelaide

Achtung Baby
Great little Mexican restaurant with a lovely ambience and nice warm atmosphere. Had the best nachos I've ever tasted, full of flavour and absolutely delicious. The service here needs some work though - as some of the other reviewers have pointed out, the owner who ushers you to your table comes off a little abrupt, and the tables for couples are quite small with barely enough room for two plates and drinks. We were constantly interrupted by different waitresses who were rushing us to take our plates away before we'd even finished.
Daniel Djakovic
Service and food are great here. I have been here a few times and have liked the food a lot. A very good choice of items to pick from and meals are big size. You won't go home hungry at all. Always has plenty of room for you to come in and enjoy dinner.
Sylvia Wen
Meal was fantastic but like others said, service could use some work to be a little more friendly. Tables are a tad too small to dine in comfortably.

By far the most Mexican food in Adelaide, and my family is half Mexican. Service is unusual, but still impeccable. You will not get the same waiter, or waitress throughout your meal but somehow they make this work. Your food still comes out in a timely manner and they don't mess up the order, so there can be no complaints here, just be ready for this. Then there is the food portion sizes, they are very generous, you definitely get value for money, just be sure you are hungry before you go here. All up a fantastic meal, atmosphere, and unusual, yet great service. Definitely deserves the 5 stars.

Great food with generous portion size and good margaritas. Unfortunately the elderly gentleman who served us (I’m sure he was the owner or manager) was quite rude. It’s seems like he has over it and needs to move on or retire. Very little pleasantries and dumping plates in front of us with no care was unusual. The venue is an authentic Mexican restaurant and could really be a great experience if the service is better.

The food is great, however the service provided by the manager / owner of this establishment is not friendly at all. We only asked him where were our meals at... as we had a fringe show to go to and we were already waiting for a while. We just needed to plan how quickly we had to leave to make it to the show on time considering that we had a couple of elderly family membersthat could not move too quickly.. Simple question we made, and the response was angry and bully and I would rather never come back.

Had best nachos ever after 2 years…. Must visit it will be a memorable one. gullible host Siana

Cute mexican restaurant. The vibrant decor and customer service was on point. She provided us with suggestions and offered us insights on the popular dishes. The food was unique to our taste buds. The mashed foul beans were my favourite and the rice was filled with flavour. It was really good

Enjoyed a nice and tasty meal this evening with my husband. We had a half order of the nachos to share, I had the burrito del mar and he’s had the El Bandito. Great meal! My eyes were bigger than my stomach (as usual) and I was only able to half of my seafood burrito. What really impressed me was that the gentleman looking after our table noticed and made a point of checking if the food was okay. I assured him it was, I just got full. We live in the Barossa and we’re not heading straight home so I didn’t take my leftovers. They discounted my main for me as a gesture of good will. I didn’t ask for this and it was certainly not expected. Thank you . We will definitely be back (and I will order a more appropriate size dish for myself next time )

Zapatas is an Adelaide institution! This isn't some trendy "foodie" joint that will be here today and gone tomorrow. In a world of change it's nice to go to a restaurant that hasn't changed and whose menu stays the same. It's honest food, reasonably priced for the average person. Got a problem? Talk to the manager and they'll fix it or refund you. Enchiladas combos are great (esp the fillet steak one), but pomegranate margarita is my favourite. I do miss the Zapata Slammer though :)

Anybody who rates this place lower than a 5 is lying. The food is amazing, service impeccable atmosphere spot on. Do yourself a favor. Get in for some of the best Mexican you can buy

We had dinner here twice while we were in Adelaide food was delicious best Mexican food I have eaten. Staff were very friendly and helpfull. Just sorry they are not in Brisbane. I would give them a 10 out of 10.
Kathie Weaver Feller
The wait staff was great. The ice tea was perfect. The food didn't sit well. The seasonings were off. We make and eat a lot of Mexican food; we enjoy different styles of the cuisine. But sadly not this one.
Peter Mitchell
Zapatas, is the best Mexican in Adelaide. The Hibiscus and the Sopapilla dessert is to die for. Chicken Flautas, and Nachos rock, and the Enchilada's are grande.
Tammy Edwards
Amazing food and delicious margaritas! We had a group booking for 34 women and these guys got all of our meals out at once so we could all eat together!! Fantastic!!!
Leslie Applebee
When we're in Adelaide we always have a meal at Zapatas and have yet to be disappointed. We ventured in last night without a booking and even though they were chock full they accommodated us without fuss, promptly took our order and served us some excellent nosh. (I recommend the Chimichanga). We'll be back again next time we're in town!
Ann Marshall
Had a wounderful evening out with my daughter. Nacho were amazing. Margarita was to die for. 10/10 service and food
Amanda Coppins
Excellent service, food was great ....as it was my Birthday it was my choice where to eat. Absolutely loved the strawberry and mango margarita's, had 1 jug of each...
Judi Warrick
Most enjoyable evening. Fab staff, food and drinks. Really looked after. Thank you

Monday night Mexican cravings were a thing so I came here for pina coladas and nachos with a friend the other night. Expectations weren't sky high, but I was well chuffed with the meal. The pina colada margarita I tried was delicious, a generous glass, and soooo reasonably priced - I believe it was less than $10! Food wise, one of the specials, a haloumi and mushroom empanada, was absolutely divine and came served with a 'boom boom shake the room' salsa verde and a tasty enough fresh avocado and onion side. The nachos had plenty of topping ie piled high with sour cream, jalapenos and avo (unlike some of the piles of chips and measly looking half-coverage of cheese and token salsa dollop you get at other places!) Setting wise, I wouldn't bring a date here. I'd bring kids - it's a family friendly neighbourhood restaurant that actually does decent food for all.

No autentico! Took over an hour for our entrees of nachos to come out even though it was a Sunday night and not busy. We were told the kitchen was flat out but the restaurant wasn’t even half full. By the time our food was out the rice was cold and tortillas burnt. We paid $20-$30 for meals that were not hot and looked like it was from a generic Old El Paso kit. The older male waiter was being rude and we were told that our meals would be out in 2-3 minutes where we found ourselves waiting for almost two hours. Other people received their meals before us even though they arrived after. Disappointing

Nachos were awesome , ribs were great. Been to the sister restaurant in semaphore which is pretty good as well. Round tables for 4 may be a little small if sharing
It has been some time sine we have been to this place. The decor is really lovely and the staff were all really polite and professional. The nacho supreme starter half serve to share was massive. Amazing dish and possibly the best nachos I have had outside the USA. The chicken enchiladas were really great as well. Not too big but fresh and full of flavour. The frozen margarita is always a must and did not disappoint. A great Mexican restaurant in a great location.

My take away enchilada came stuck to a cardboard box sans rice and frijoles. My dining in experience over five years ago was excellent.
Has anyone else been disappointed with their take away?
Owennicholson82
The food was great, don't get me wrong, it tasted better after the 2 hour wait. Food = good. Decor = beautiful. Service = absolutely shocking. Our hostess was extremely narky and rude and threw another waiter under the bus because he was a trainee. The 2 hour wait for the food was bad enough until they brought most of the food out and left some of us waiting for another 20 minutes or so. We will try Montezuma's next time and see how well they do, bad food is one thing, but waitpersons with attitudes and treating other workers terribly? Also the 2 hour wait says something about staffing. Plenty of people in there, definitely not a struggling business, would it kill you to create some jobs? Goodbye, taking our money elsewhere.
Alex
First time visit here for a random dating dinner. Nice settings, we enjoyed the privacy offered in the dining area. We ordered main course and cocktail. Food was not too bad but cocktail was beliw average. Sorry to say that. Overall dining experience was not too bad :)

Zapata's is the place to go if you're not sure about mexican food. It's kid friendly - tick. The service was friendly - tick. The food was ok. It was busy and we needed to seek attention from the waiters.
Anthony Despoja
Honest review here.
Went out for dinner on a Saturday night. Group of 10. Every table was full so a busy night.
Parking is pretty scarce on Melbourne St as you'd expect but enough on the side street.
Last time I was here was 5 years ago and service was not too good then, but thought we'd go back to give it another chance. Disappointed.
The restaurant itself is nice to look at, although not anything special for a Mexican eatery. Montezumas I think is more appealing on that level.
Service - I realise they were busy but if you're fully booked you should have enough staff to deal with it - they did not. There were times when we waited 10 mins just to see a waiter to order a drink. Once drinks were ordered they were served promptly but follow up service is appalling. We ordered our mains and it took 50 mins to get them. They were also served staggered over a 10 minute period - not kidding, So one hour to get our meals from start to finish with some eating prior to the last guy getting his meal.
Drinks - all bottled drinks were fine but the cocktails, all we could taste was the juice. We complained to the waitress about it but she assured us there was a shot of vodka there. Even my auntie couldnt taste it.
Quality of meals - on par with cheap take away. If you're expecting restaurant quality food prepared with care by a chef then dont go here. Looks like it was prepared yesterday and warmed up on the plate. Aesthetically, unappealing and slightly on the cold side. Quality - enchilda had one small piece of chicken in it - the beef looked like tinned beef. Frijoles obviously tin stuff and smothered in low grade cheese. Talk about budget.
The last guy to get his meal was given a cold steak - I mean COLD to touch. Complained to waitress - got nothing but an apology and then she left the table.
At the end of the meal, I once again complained to the waitress to no avail. Got the usual apologies. I asked if we could get complimentary coffees - didnt even get an answer she just smiled and left.
The bill for ten of us was close to $400. We left hungry, disappointed, one meal was left untouched and another of my friends chose not the eat his meal after a few bites as he stated it was "inedible". If you want a truly Mexican authentic cuisine experience - go to the boutique places like Lupitas in North Adelaide or the burger place at Henley Beach.

Being of Latin American background, honestly i am not demanding anything the same as back at home meals. But this does not even come close. It's (AT BEST) frozen mexican food topped with cheese, and i wouldn't be surprised if thats what they did.

To management - either advise your chefs to use fresher ingredients, prepared and cooked ON THE DAY or risk losing more customers.

Bottom line - dont go here. Gave it one and half as we enjoyed the beers and kids liked running around the restaurant (which we found just as amusing as the food).

Food was nice. My partner and I got half serve of nachos but it was way too much for 2. I couldn't finish my main course after eating half the nachos. Both my partner and I left the restaurant feeling too full and unwell. We didn't even over-indulge. The sangria was tasty though, and priced well.

This restaurant has a great ambiance. Even when it is busy there are many corners to make it feel private. The service was good. My favourite part was being able to eat my nacho bowl. Yum!
Pia Runge
Food was great but the service was astonishingly terrible. All the waitresses had serious attitude and were rude to everyone. Even when placing glasses and water on the table, it was done with contempt...almost like they were throwing the glasses on the table. Not impressed at all. They all need to check their attitude at the door. Appalling.
Master Diner
Really enjoy the experience. It had a feel of 'they have been doing this for years'. Margarita was a bit plain. Food was good. Service - very good. I would return. Perhaps doesn't top my favor adelaide Mexican but a close second.
The Cats Mother
Great food, great service by all staff members, however, was briefly served by the owner, Victoria, who was incredibly rude.

Out of uniform, the owner brought our drinks to the table- didn't say anything or look at anyone at the table.

Proceeded to bring the glasses back and asked why there was only 3 glasses as 4 were seated at the tables. Mentioned that 'she'- indicated a friend at the table, was not drinking.

The owner then, without looking at anyone at the table, scolded us- "Oh she? She is the cats mother". Didn't laugh, didn't indicate any joking manner, walked off without saying anything else.

This was incredibly rude and unnecessary by the owner of an establishment who should know better than to treat patrons as such. Especially with no reason to do so, as we are very polite regular patrons.
Art Vandelay
Zapata's is always busy, but I'll never understand why. I was disappointed several years ago and last weekend was no different.

I asked for the Chicken Flautas (Entree) to come with the mains (and the waiter confirmed this), but something obviously got lost in translation, as they arrived 40 minutes before the mains. They were the only decent part of the meal.

I ordered a meal with one chicken enchilada and one beef enchilada. Each enchilada was approximately 1.5cm in height and the tortillas were soggy. The salsa on top was bland and much more hot than the rest of the meal indicating it was microwaved. The refried beans were cold and tasted awful (and I usually love refried beans!). The rice was similar in quality. For $25, I would expect more. Old El Paso kits are cheaper and better quality. My girlfriend's Tostada was dry and flavourless.

The staff were good, but that does not make up for such terrible food.
Amy's Chows
Tasty Mexican food and at an alright price. Tried the tacos, chimichanga and ribs. Half prices margaritas on Thursdays were the highlight!! Service was friendly and went home really full!
Danny G
Prices are right and the food is really nice. Actually I don't like Mexican but my American mate loves it. He brings me here every year. It is consistent and fresh. Give it a go... see if you can find a quiet night as they ate only ok for service when busy.
Viktor
I went here a week ago and was really disappointed. Service was extremely slow and overly casual. The food was just ok. Not a disaster but not great either. Won't be back and would recommend giving it a miss.
Adric Sommer
Small Mexican restaurant, food was tasty and ok. Was pricey and the servings were pretty normal.
I'd rather go to the opposition Mexican restaurant just up the road!
The Munchkin
Great authentic Mexican food . They are certainly not stingy with the guacamole with our nachos and combination dip. Highly recommend the chicken flautas which are 2 deep fried tortilaa with chicken +salsa+non other more guacamole. Something that we dont see in other mexican restaurants. Environment is a bit dingy but ortherwise just enjoy the food.

Great service, fast paced and very busy environment, family friendly and great atmosphere, my kids love to look at all of the historic photos. Margarita's made to perfection. Food was top notch for a minimum price!
HoneyBintheCity
I liked it here. Cannot beat half price Margaritas on Thursday nites so we defs picked the right nite- $4 and they were deelish. The food was significantly tasty, we had the make ur own fajitas- the beef was fantastic not the usual slop mince I have had at a few other Mexican places, and the condiments were very generous with actual avocado guac not tub boom! The tostada was a really tasty huge taco filled cornchip too. All round happy nite. 👍

Nachooooooos! My partner and I came here on Wednesday night when they had their half-priced nachos. A friend recommended this place specifically for their nachos, and we both agree that it was indeed flavoursome and generous with their toppings. Only problem is that we didn't feel very welcomed as soon as we stepped through the door. No smile, just a prompt "do you have a reservation?". If you can put that negative vibe aside, all the other floor staff were attentive and very friendly. Definitely a good place to have some decent Mexican food!
Jimichanga
Great service and good food. Very accommodating by organising a larger table when the group kept growing. Good value and a decent range of Mexican dishes.
The Fat Duck
Great service, really appreciated our waitress and guidance with the menu. Good was great & fresh, if you like Mexican food, this is the best in Adelaide.

Live your work guys.
Foodielicious
The food is great, the atmosphere and view too. Too bad that the service is sooo slow and their cocktails so low on alcohol... i Prefer the big sister in north adelaide!
Monica
Hola, if you're feeling cheap, cheerful and the Mexicano vibes, head into Zapatas for half-priced nachoes every Weds. The large size is perf for 2-3 leaving with you with a miniscule ~$5-7 charge (don't be a fool and try eat a large to yourself - it will not end well). Despite being great value for $$ especially for penniless uni students, the food quality is not quite as good value. The nachoes aren't bad but are rather basic, soaked in greasy cheese (may feel like you're eating a heart attack) and I would appreciate a meat option on the menu. I've also eaten the tostada which is of similar standards. Though I really do enjoy their margaritas (Thurs is half-priced margaritas). Service can be sluggish, though one waitress I had was exceptionally friendly and efficient, should win a waitress award. Despite it's lacking in top quality Mexican cuisine, if you're looking for a fun time and minimal spending, Zapatas on a Wed or Thurs is a prime option.

Me and my amigos went here after hearing bad things about their opposition down the road...but they were no better. Would not call their CC's layered with Coon Tasty cheese on top "authentic Mexican cuisine" and the addition of Uncle Ben's rice didn't do them favours either. Chilli Colorado was just chunks of meat in a weak gravy. I would rather the Aztecs have been right and the world ended in 2012 then eat this again!
Laura
So much better than the other 'popular' Mexican place down the road! Zapata's nachos are delicious and there were no issues when I asked for extra beans. All of the meals are made freshly and with plenty of flavour. Good atmosphere for big groups/families.
Sahar&Aurelio
Every time I come here I always order the half plate nachos. Very generous portion sizes and amazing price (especially when it's half price Wednesday's!) comes with sour cream and avocado too which is normally extra at most places! Definitely recommend. Very satisfying and filling
Cheeky Diner
Great dining experience. Food was full flavoured and reasonably priced. Staff were courteous and knowledgable. The decor had a pleasant Mexican feel which added to the experience.
Lindajing
Really average but overpriced food with poor service. The food isn't anything to write home about...you could get Mexican of similar quality at a much cheaper restaurant. The staff have quite poor attitudes as well. I couldn't finish my meal and asked for a container to take it home and the waitress seemed quite judgmental about it. Won't be coming back here.
Toby's Mum
Horrible service! I don't know if it's an Adelaide thing but the service at 3 out of 3 restaurants has been horrible! The staff member greeted us on arrival and took our drink orders and then food a short time later. The Nacho's were swimming in melted cheese, not pleasant at all! Never again after our first drink order were we asked if we would like anything else. We stayed at the restaurant for at least an hour after the completion of our main meal and never had the option of dessert or drinks. Poor service and not really acceptable when there are so many other restaurants around. Give this one a miss! There has to be better Mexican out there and somewhere that actually wants your money!
Sideshow Mark
Slow service and one of the burritos was cold in the middle and had to be replaced. By the time it was, I was done and had to wait
Carissa Palmrose
Terrible food! Overpriced!. You can make better at home with a taco/enchilada kit. Seriously. I didn't finish my meal for fear that it would make me sick. It wasn't fresh, the rice was boring and the brown slop on the side was gross. The nachos were passable but its so simple to make you really can't mess it up and at $26 for a full size serve you'd expect more than the addition of some jalapenos to the usual make-at-home recipe. How this place is running amazes me. Are places like this the reason why Adelaide only has one really popular Mexican restaurant?

The only things going for this place is the friendly wait staff and the location.

Do yourself a favour and go anywhere else.
Cobwebs
Love the restaurant, the food was yummy & margaritas so good! But as always the male waiter (manager?) seriously needs to work on his people skills, very rude and terrible customer service. When going to pay for the bill there was no communication other than, "$72.50" with his hand out wanting the money! I once ordered dips as I was feeling sick, and didn't eat a whole lot of if, when he came to pick up the plates he told me I was silly for ordering it if I wasn't going to eat it & shouldn't have bothered ordering at all!!!! I love the food so much, maybe I'll try the semaphore Zapatas to get away from this guy.
Hillbilly
Old Faithful.... As always great food and good service.. Try the ribs they are exceptional.. The surroundings are relaxed and un cluttered with a homey feel .. Prices are just where they should be .. Much better than you pay for standard pub grub with no table service.. This place is great for a quick bite or a family dinner on a special occasion.. Keep up the good work amigos!
Kelseymanning
Omg could you get any more rude!. Warning!!! Don't order to much food! The manager took time out from his busy day to tell us how impressed he was at how much we could eat and that we ordered WAY to much food for 3 smaller ladies. I'm sorry but getting a serve of nachos, an entree and two mains to share seems to be overindulging in their eyes.
For a quiet Tuesday night with as many staff as they had on, the Service was lacking. Don't expect to be allowed to order desserts unless you are willing to wait 15 minutes just to get a menu. All in all I was appalled at the treatment I was given by the staff and the manager. But dont worry the bill can be provided within seconds of asking for it! Looks like they where as eager to get rid of us, as we where to get away from them!
Strategyalpha
Well I like it!. Ok, they may not have the best reviews - but I for one, really like the tostadas!

The enchiladas are good too.

Will be back!
Fiona.moriarty
This was not mexican! Terrible.. Zapatas have the dubious distiction of serving me the worst mexican i have ever had! I should have guessed the main course would be tasteless mush, when the cheese dip tasted like a jar of melted cheese spread. There was no spice, fresh ingredients, texture or flavour in anything i ordered. It's quite confusing. The restaurant was full, there are awards all over the doors and i expected something really good. Do people in Adelaide not know what mexican food should be?
My advice - do not go there. I have nothing positive to say.
Daniela
I would give this place a miss! Sloppy food, pretty much tasted like microwaved canned tomatoes on top of some wet tortilla. Bad service, spider webs on the wall with a huge black spider hanging over my fiancès head... Overall Mcdonalds would have been better.
Wgormly
Not bad, not brilliant.. We dined here tonight and ordered Supreme Nachos to start with (half serve). Out came an absolutely mammoth serve within a short wait. This set the scene for our mains, which were equally large and very filling! Taste was good; very basic and slightly overpriced for the food served, however. Very friendly service, and meals came out quick enough. 6.5/10.
Andrew
You have got to be kidding?. How on Earth anyone could like this rubbish is beyond me. Total and utter slops with a price tag that has to be seen to be believed!

You would not catch me back there if someone put a gun to my head. I will make sure I warn as many as I can to give this place a wide berth.
Charli Bear
Blah. We had the nachos which were quite nice, but really expensive, crazily so, and mine are better at home. The margaritas have no alcohol in them, and neither did the sangria. The enchiladas are so bland, I make much better ones at home. I was also surprised to see how many babies were in on a Thursday night, like newborn babies, each table had one, and one table everyone had a newborn, weird!
A disappointing, pricey dinner
Cooked_with_love
Disappointed. Tried Zapata's a couple of times, the menu is a bit too pricey relative to what you get. We had to wait nearly an hour for our food. Lets just say, if I want Mexican food, I will stick to making it at home from here on.
Dee
Most delicious mexican I've had. Nachos are delicious and flavoursome. Will definitely go back again and again.
Simon Ryan
Once again, had a fantastic meal tonight. Love this place!!!
Captainveganx
Awesome, the Tostada can be done vegan and its really good!!
Marsy040
Great Price, Great Taste. I ordered the Nachos Supreme on their half price nachos night (every wednesday). For only $10 you get a generous serve of nachos loaded with cheese, sour cream, guacamole, salsa and beans!
Delicious and filling and much better value and taste than Montazuma's.
Also got a lemon margarita which was tasty and refreshing and pretty good value for $7.
I've been here many times and would 100% recommend it again.
Oooo_nnnn
Will certainly be back. Along with the excellent service and enjoyable decor. The serving sizes were quite generous, between three of us we shared a half serve of nachos and each had a meal and could barely finish both and not a single complaint could be made about our mains definitely worth a visit!
Helen
So disappointing. First time dining at Zapata's. Not sure if it was because we arrived at approx. 9pm or the service is always slightly spotty but tonight it was definitely subpar. The waiter obvious it'll didn't want to be there and could be described as polite at best. The half order of nachos were impressive in size but not taste. The cheese had melted mostly onto the plate itself and the corn chips themselves didn't have any flavor. I ordered the enchilada grande and by the time it had arrived, the sauce had formed a solid film across the top. Rice was also slightly crunchy. Flavours were fairly ok but would have tasted the same if you'd blended things up at home yourself. Also ordered a piña colada and there was no coconut cream or pineapple juice that could be detected. Just tasted like sugar.
Lorenzo Lamas
Bland and just bad. I make Mexican at home which is lightyears ahead of this stuff. Every time a meal is served here, a Mexican somewhere cries.
Speckledfish
Best margaritas. Thursday night for half price margaritas, you can not go wrong! Order yourself some nachos with everything on them and just enjoy yourself. This is one of my most favorite places to go and one of the best mexican places in Adelaide.
B5723
Not good. Waited over an hour and a half for food as they forgot about our order until we mentioned something and then our entertainment voucher was not honoured. It was an overall unpleasant experience for very average food.
Wendy Bennett
Just came away a very disappointed and ripped off customer. Waited over half an hour for drink order to arrive which waitress came back to double check after 15 mins, when margarita turned up it was in a hot glass and tasted like water (probably ice melted) food was very average and not hot. We then ordered beer figured it should not have dramas but table next to us got margarita before even though ordered after us. Then paid bill only to realise when in car we were over charged by about $20 which was probably the first drink order gone through twice because they had to take the order twice, far out insult to injury, don't know how they ever won an award for best Mexican was nobody else running that year
LJ160491
We enjoyed the food, better than average Mexican food, had wonderful chicken and beef enchiladas. The decor is beautiful. Unfortunately the service is average. We walked in at 5.50 pm (yes early for dinner) and couldn't find anyone to greet is, after yelling out twice someone came over and seated us, no apologies or anything. We ordered a drink but said we needed more time to look at the menu, the waitress then took around 20 minutes. Not sure if I would return but the food is good.
LilShawty
Went there last night. First and last time!! The food was disgusting!! I felt sick after eating it. The customer service was not great. Asked for two peach iced teas and they brought us what looked like coke.. We tasted it and it tasted like lemon, like and bitters.. When it was time to pay we refused to pay $70 for two drinks and two mains. They charge top dollar for such crap food and the serving size wasn't even big at all. Only gave the guy $30, told him why and walked straight out :) never going back again and will be highly not recommending this place
Whine N Diner
Serving was huge, service was so so, nothing special. Loved the margarita and burrito. The booking system was abit weird though. Booked for 8pm, but turned up 10mins earlier, was refused so had to wait outside till clock hit 8.
JosephineKnows
I thought it was one of the best Mexican meals I've ever had and I've been to Mexico BUT I thought service was crap. Showed me table and walked away. No offer of drink or water. Had to get up and walk around to get service or bill even. Ill be back but hope it improves because I've heard similar complaints from other diners who won't go back.
Peter Mitchell
Zapatas. It's true, Zapata's is the best Mexican in Adelaide. It'd be
interesting too, to see ifs brother restaurant, Viva Zapata at Semaphore, could deliver in the same measure. Incidentally, I acted in a film there two years ago when it was The Flying Knife. About Zapata's. First, the atmosphere, inside is truly Mexican, chic, happy, and safe. It's loud Frontage is just as is inviting, especially to tourists. There's a nice little alfresco area, out the side, if needing some air. 10/10
If on a hot day too, the non alcoholic HiBiscus, is just a dream beverage for a parched throat, and someone, craving a wicked thirst. Tasty, and addictive with just one glass, you're be pouring again and again. Pity they don't sell this in take away, in Summer. I'm sorry to do this, but this drink warrants an 11/10
The staff are great, warm, happy, and assertive. 9/10
Wednesday night offers a opportune treat for Nacho lovers. The Nacho Supreme, that's with everything, is a savior for a yearning hunger, that will fill empty stomachs with appease, and halve the expense, with it being half price. Even the half nacho serve, you would barely make it through, if not having anything to eat all day. Gormandizing on this, is just one of life's pleasures 9.5/10
The Chill Con Carne rocks, complimented with a squirt of sour cream and chives on the top. The best in Adelaide.
9.7/10
Tacos bring a disappointment. Why? It's the unfitting mince they use in them. Please don't hold this against me, as
other people wouldn't mind, while I'm used to a different kind of mince. 4/10
The Chicken and Beef Enchiladas, that come out on those
arty and Mexican fitting plates, with the pastry and Melted
cheese topping, aren't the best I've had. I found em a bit sloppy, but tasty, and too ,you have the rice and the Frijolls,
something I've always loved, taking me back to Cha Chi's days. 7/10
The dips. Chili Con Quesco and the beef one are great appetizers, though sometimes, I have to tell em, to heat them up. But when that's done, it's constant dipping and scarfing. 7.7/10
Now with the dessert, they just keep coming back and
impressing me. Now correct if I've got this wrong, the
Sophilia, a beautiful lip smacking dish of honey, ice cream
on a extra crispy pastry, sort shaped l a folded crepe, if I can remember, just finishes off the night beautifully. 9/10

Aside From Zapatas and Lucky Lupitas/part Mexican
and The late Tortilla Kitchen, my favorite Mexican restaurant,
I'd hop on a plane, and sought out other Mexican somewhere else. The first two with the exception of the former one,
mentioned, are about the best you're gonna get in Adelaide, sorrily.

Best Mexican in Adelaide!

I love zapatas and always order exactly the same thing: chicken flautas and chicken tostada. Both sensational every time. Service is pretty crap, decor a bit tacky and they hate people who expect to walk in without a booking whether they're full or not, but I just overlook all that because the food is always so good. Like all Mexican places, it will be expensive for the type of food compared to a bag of Doritos and a jar of Old El Paso, but I don't think you can do better than them at home.

We dined in last night with friends, can't say I was overly impressed with the food.... My partner and I had heard how good it was and tried to go Wesnesday night, unfortunately we didn't book, so we couldn't be fitted in - which is fine... Just ment I was looking forward a lot more to Friday night when we had a super rare occasion to dine with friends without our daughter! Cost us $180 for nachos, and 4 mains and 4 drinks. So really that's ok divided by 4, however the food wasn't that awesome nor was the service.... Don't think we will be back!!

They’re doing just fine without your money.. I feel sad to write this review, because I like the food at Zapatas.
I usually prefer to get takeaway from Zapata’s because the dine-in portion sizes are huge, and indeed I have gotten takeaway from Zapata’s on multiple occasions. Usually I’m looking forward to the food so much I can overlook the withering glares the staff members give you for ordering takeaway. (It’s not just me; the last time I mentioned Zapata’s to a friend I got warned “the food’s good, but if you get takeaway the staff look at you like you’ve personally ruined their evening”).
So on Saturday night when my partner tells me I can pick what takeaway we’ll get (a rare feat), I choose Zapata’s. As I said, we have gotten takeaway from Zapata’s on multiple occasions, and their website specifically features a takeaway menu, so I think it’s a fairly safe assumption then that if you ring up at 6:30 on a Saturday night, you’ll be allowed to order takeaway.
Unless of course you get told by a bored-sounding staff member “We don’t do takeaway when we’re busy”. I questioned why this was the case and was told “If the kitchen’s busy they won’t do it”.
I’m sure if I had been sitting inside the restaurant and had ordered the same food I wanted for takeaway I would have been served, but apparently if you give the staff at Zapata’s the opportunity to ignore you, they will do just that. And frankly, I have no interest in rewarding that kind of arrogance with my money.
In summary, if you like good food, by all means visit Zapata’s. You’ll have a great meal if they’re in the mood to cook food in exchange for your money. If not, I guess that’s just your bad luck.

50/50. My friends and I dined at Zapata's last night. The food was GREAT but I can't say the same about their service. We made a booking and arrived on time and was told we were way to early and was asked to wait 15mins.... (staff lying about time... not cool!) We then came back after 15mins and still our reservation wasn't ready. Wasn't impressed. I have been to many busy restaurants before and if you have made a booking your table should be ready for you upon arrival.
When we sat down we weren't approached for a good 25mins, we actually had to put our hand up (like a school student) for someone to recognise us.
Once again waited very long for someone to collect our payment for our bill. The restaurant was pretty much empty by then, ...(like seriously!)

Very nice food Zapata's but service is definitely your downfall and needs improvement.

I do recommend the Buritto Del Mar (seafood burrito)... SO DELICIOUS!

Setting is also very nice!

Our fave. My husband and I love this place, best Mexican food we have had. Cute place, always packed. Service can be a little bad at times, mainly the older gentlemen who isn't very friendly, the other wait staff are always lovely. Fantastic frozen margaritas.
Dave
Overall a pleasurable mexican meal, our table was in the enclosed patio area which was quite cold and lacked privacy from other tables. Had the fajitas which were delicious though.
Samantha Corcoran
Awesome food! Great place to eat, food was lovely and staff were also great.
Recommend making a booking when you want to eat there though as they are very popular!
Guillaume Zap
The service is not too bad , but the food .... bad quality , no flavours .
We went last night without booking , how do they do to get busy ?
We got banditos tacos and the barramundi . Rice overcooked , peas frozen , corns from a container , beef without flavour , bad cooked as well
Worst mexican place ever , sorry but we felt very bad paying expensive for that .
Adam
Loved it!. The meals tasted great! The chimichanga was delicious, the rice was a little bland however. Overall it was a nice atmosphere followed up with great tasting food. Look forward to going back!

Wouldn't go again.. Went for dinner with a group of friends on a wednesday night without a booking. They were rather busy but were rather lovely and put together a table of four for us in the court yard. Throughout the night we had several different waiters, some of which repeated what the other waitress had asked us, others had no idea if we'd ordered. Food came out at different times and was rather average. For a mexican place, nothing had any hint of a chilli 'bite' to it whatsoever. Also $12 for a vodka sunrise? I don't think so. Would recommend for a cheeky bite to eat but not a sit down dinner with drinks, entries, mains and dessert. While the menu is extensive they could also improve by listing vegetarian items/nut free items, gluten free items etc as when the waiters were asked about gf options they had no idea.

Cheese overload. Ordered nachos and received a packed of corn chips with a block of cheese melted over the top. Greasy, tasteless, completely unappetising. So many quality Mexican restaurants around Adelaide - do not waste your time with Zapatas.
Adam
First time at this restaurant tonight.
Meals were overpriced, tasteless and they used way too much cheese.
Do not recommend.
Jack
Worst meal to date. It use to be good. Went last Sunday, it was the most disgusting meal i've tastes for a while. I attempted to finish but couldn't. The meat was overdone, the plate was a mess. I outer layer of the Tostada was soft and not edible. Never again!
Suzanna Jean
Cask wine as the house wine! Ribs were not hot, like they were reheated, tired garden salad was made hours before, bland meats or mis matched flavours to mains. Nachos a specialty? Surely no one can stuff that up! Should have gotten that. A disappointing choice for my birthday!
Jordan
So disappointing. My most recent visit to Zapatas would have to be my most disappointing Adelaide dining experience to date. The service was cold and slow, we had to get our own water (happy to do at a cheap restaurant- but at $30 a head this is not that cheap). Food was terrible, our Encheladas seemed to be straight out of the microwave and frozen packet, had no flavor and well as being small portion. Be warned 'plain nachos' is just that - half a packet of budget corn chips a bit of melted cheese and a tablespoon of jalapenoes straight from the tin - this is $18.90!!!! Unbelievable! Overall no good, never going back, much better places to dine in Nth Adelaide.
Ceslovesfood
Went with a group of girls - it was quick and delicious but our waiter was a bit rude and weird. Apart from that we will definitely be going back!
Marissa
Went there with two friends for dinner. We all loved our meals! Service was great! Will definitely be going back
Amackeats
Average but okay. I was a little disappointed in the meal after hearing good things about this place. My chimichanga was good but the sides were pretty average. The rice was plain and gluggy and the salad was small - although it did have radish which is good. The nachos were pretty good though - the meat was tasty and tender and they were huge. Service was pretty good too. So overall not bad but don't go expecting the best mexican you've ever had.
Daniel
Poor. Whilst the food was reasonable, the service was slow and awkward, and the atmosphere was a bit odd for a Mexican. There was no music for a start, and there are too many partitions inside and it feels quite segregated.

Food wasn't quite good enough to warrant a second visit based on everything else being pretty pony.
Lkarapas
Sad disappointment. Guess I was spoilt by the Mexican street food in LA, but this place was disappointing.
It wasn't that the food wasn't fresh, because it truly was. it's just: like the last guy said, it was bland. I was really expecting food that was full of flavour. The bean dip to start was re-fried beans dumped into a bowl with a squirt of bland sauce and two shreds of cheese. It was like baby food.
I had the burrito, hubby had the enchiladas. Everything was swimming in those freakin re-fried beans. All be it - the meat was beautiful and tender, but it just soooo lacked any razzed dazzle. It was so mushy. It was like it was skipified. You know? When people have those taste buds that can't stand a bit of kick? Obviously from other reviews, this place is catering to the masses, but for me it was blah and boring. I look for food that has guts and I truly wish the owners would go out on a limb and inject a bit of Mexican PASSION!! Live a little and hit us with some chilies :-)
The place had the right surroundings and obviously got booked, but I get the feeling the staff are as tired as the food. Possibly if there was a little bit of reinvention, there would be a gem of a restaurant here, and the wait staff wouldn't look so disinterested. It's like it's almost there, it's just begging for real flavour...
If it's any consolation, the margarita hit the spot! Maybe that's why people go there. That at least made my birthday...(aaawwwwwww)
Justin H
Horrible food, horrible staff. Bland and tasteless, I wouldn't even waste time on these people. Staff are completely useless. Old El Paso is better than this!
Gus' Gastro Review
UPDATE! Mexican food is like country music, basically the same thing with a different name being the only way to tell it apart from another. Zapatas manages to induce their own flavour and flair with some re-worked Aussie fav's like the Barra and the steak.

Wonderful food, homely and comfortable surroundings.

It's cheap and you get a lot of 'bang for your buck' - same prices for years and years. $25 for a 250g steak I hear you say?
Fav dish is the starter 'Chili Con Queso' - a must start for every meal. It's an amazing array of cheeses blended and melted into one awesome pot of awesome.

I've been here countless times.

They have a great selection of Mexican beer and tequila.

Service is often sketchy, a little over-ambitious and can be rude, but rest assure it's not you, it's everyone. Just ignore him, he's better suited to French restaurant, in France, far far away.
Visit Zapatas, but you'd have to be something massive if you did entree man and desert.

No me gusta. Went here for a date night with my husband. We did not have any booking, we did not think it was necessary as it was a week night. We told the waitress that we do not have a booking and she was cranky about this for some reason. She grumpily pointed us to a table at the front corner of the restaurant. She pointed it to us while she was walking away. "There. There's your table." And walked away. ANNNNNDDDD did not come back. EVER. We tried catching the eye of some other servers. No luck. They must have been told not to make any eye contact. We waited and waited and waited. For 15 minutes. Waved to other servers. They probably thought we were just waving hello because no one wants to take out order. Waited some more. Nada.

Had it after a while and walked out. Adelaide has far better restaurants than this one.

One serve of cranky waitress is enough to ruin your night.

Pretty good meal. I was worried to begin with as they were exceptionally busy and I didn't think i'd really be able to enjoy my meal and conversation.. but I think the layout of the dining room stops that from being too overwhelming. I took a friend and we both really enjoyed our meals.. though I think the portions could have been bigger. I ordered the "El Grande" expecting it to be El Grande.. but it wasn't. Would definitely go back again to try more items. Don't bother with the Pina Colada's though.. $12 or thereabouts and pretty disappointing.
KCLee
Not as good as expected.. I was here a few weeks ago and found the food to be pretty gd. So when my boyfriend felt like mexican I suggested this place. The service was pretty disappointing, besides the young blonde with braces who was lovely and friendly. We had to ask for both our drinks and the bill twice because they didn't come the first time. The table next to us had to ask for something three times before they received it. The food was ok, there was a bit of a lack of flavour and was not as good as expected.

I probably will not go again anytime soon, though the place was packed so if you are planning on going, make sure you book!!

Great food, RUDE waiter. I recommended this restaurant to friends and although the food was great, the host/head waiter/manager was really sarcastic, snarky and bitchy. Don't know if good food is enough when your meal is spoiled by someone like that. There are plenty of other restaurants where the wait staff are friendly. Go to them instead.
Rothschild
Grumpy & Great. The grumpy old waiter is part of the charm and experience. Yes, he is intolerant, impatient and condescending and every part of Zapata's. If you happen to miss having the grumpy waiter - then you have missed out on the full Zapata experience.

Be open minded and use Australian humour. Enjoy!
Antonio
Best ever!. To be perfect they just need to fire the Old Skinny Grumpy Waiter
Redhots_rule
The fajitas are a must try!!!! Excellent food! The chimichangas looked pretty good too will have to try them next time.
Lili
The WORST 'Mexican' eatery in Adelaide. For starters the service is disgusting, very rude waiters who run past the tables in order to avoid being called out to. No cutlery on the table, had to wait 15 minutes for a bottle of water (while staff stood around at the bar talking) when waiter took out order, words used were "what do you want?" followed by a rude wave of the hand.

Food is way overpriced, especially the nachos which were covered in hard cold cheese. Too much salsa used on food which is all you can taste.

Will never go back to this place and will never recommend it to anyone.
Opinionated Foody
Mexican?. Adelaide is not known for its Mexican food so don't get your hopes up. The food is fair but it is not Mexican food. It is so BLAND, boring and flavourless.
The wait staff is RUDE. Especially the older slight gentlemen (and I use the term gentlemen loosely) who might have been an owner or manager; he snapped answers to questions we had about the menu, he never checked back to see if we needed more drinks (which we would have ordered,) etc. You get the picture.
Won't go back, not worth the time, money or effort.
RSOH2K4
As an actual Mexican I have to say the food is NOT a good representation of Mexican food. The nachos were extremely overpriced. The sangria was just red wine with lemons in it. And the "Bandido" plates I ordered had no flavour, no spice, no soul. Frankly, a jar of Woolies brand salsa has more flavour. You are better off getting the box of DIY at the store. Disgraceful!
What I Eat
THE BEST MARGARTIA!!!. Zapatas has the best Margarita I've ever had. I recommend the lemon margarita which doesn't taste too potent and is very icy. It literally tastes like a lemon granita which I can't seem to find anywhere in Adelaide so here is the closest. While here I had the the Enchilada Grande which was a beef and a chicken enchilada served rice and frijoles. I wasn't too fond of it though as it tasted pretty average. I would have preferred a plate full of the rice instead. I was with other people so we shared our meals and they had the best Chimichanga!!!!! Definitely get that when you are there! It is a pocket full of goodness! The guacamole salad is also to die for so make sure you get that on the side to share. Service was very good but it does get quite bust in there on weekends so make sure you book ahead, as we booked at about 4pm on a Saturday and they only had space available at 8.30pm and when we arrived we had to wait for them to find us a table and set up.

Disappointing. Staff we rude and surly. One girl threw the menus at us, she did not want to be there and it made us not want to be there either.

The food was average. $12.00 for corn chips with cheese. Enchiladas were small, greasy and not hot enough.

If you live in Adelaide I suggest you make your Mexican at home.

BEST TEX-MEX IN ADELAIDE. Probably the best Mexican restaurant in Adelaide, it’s not exactly cheap and the portions aren’t massive but it’s good quality food with the flavour you’d expect in Mexican cuisine. I’ve been here a few times and all enjoy it plus the décor has a real Mexican feel, not tacky like other place our Adelaide but more of a traditional feel.
Eliza Lynch
Very nice alternative to pub and bar food. Zapatas has a nice vibe, it was relaxing and pleasant, never been here before, we just happened to be in North Adelaide and were hungry. A very nice alternative to pub and bar food and I recommend Zapatas to anyone.
Jason Eats
Great atmosphere, service, and food to match, the half serve of nachos was huge, and between the two of us didn't leave much room for the mains. Had chimichanga and tostada for mains, both great and ended up taking a fair bit home for lunch tommorrow. Great food and good value for money but will definatly order less food if we make it back again.
Lisatotum
Went here on a date recently, nice ambiance, small and quaint. He could not stop raving about the Guacamole, which indeed was very good, as were the chips. I had a margarita which was great, nice choice of drinks. With the entrees and mains, I was full, maybe too full, not a bad place for date.
I would go back. It's a great little neighbourhood restaurant.

Worth a try. It was my first visit to this restaurant - we hadn't booked on a Saturday night but managed to get a table after 5 minutes wait the staff seemed a bit unsure what tables were or weren't booked. I had the grande enchiladas, they were very tasty but my main complaint is that they weren't very grande in size - I did think they were on the small side and the portion of rice tiny, I ended up eating some of my partners. My partner had entrees and enjoyed them - overall good except we were handed the wrong bill at the end but was quickly corrected. The margaritas were good and the service wasn't too bad.
Krystal Chase
Overall worth it!. Cosy little place, It's a little bit hidden and even looks small when you go in, but then it really opens up. The portions are filling and the margaritas are excellent! We had a bit of a wait, but enjoyed some drinks and the surroundings, overall worth it!
CBK
Top Quality Mexican. I haven't eaten here for a while but I am definitely looking forward to going again soon. Last time I had the Burrito Del Mar (soft burrito with seafood). Very tasty and enjoyable! Tidy decor and great service.

Your tastebuds will be satisfied!. Out of the few Mexican restaurants in Adelaide, I have to say Zapata's is the best. Compared to other places, the food here is fresh and more authentic and tastes great. The textures and colors and spices are vibrant and delicious. Also the atmosphere and décor are as if you’re in an old style Mexican place. As you walk in you are constantly looking around at all the Mexican memorabilia.
The margaritas are great and priced well, especially on half price night. So the food… well I love their Zapata’s ribs, their Burrito Del Mar and Chilli Colorado just to name a few. These are obviously my favourites.
If you haven’t been just go and try it. I guarantee your tastebuds will be satisfied!
Kevin Jacobs
Awesome Mexican and Place. Zapata's has always been one of my consistent favourite places around Adelaide. The food is priced very well and the taste and flavours are great. The staff are very friendly and attentive, however when they are busy, be prepared to wait just a little longer for service. Pretty normal these days though. The end result is a place that I've been coming to consistently for a meal. It is a great place and if you haven't been I recommend it.
Jennifer
First visit. I have heard about this place from a number of friends, however, I have never really been a fan of Mexican food.

We ended up here a couple of weeks ago for a friend's birthday (on a Friday) and were surprised.
The food was delicious, the service was prompt, nice range of drinks, and a comfortable feel to the place.
I had the "El Bandido" Beef and cheese Enchilada, served with rice and Chips.

It was wonderfully hot when it arrived and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
What can I say? I didn't really want to go at first, but now I will be going back again soon :)
Phil
Great Mexican!. This place is awesome. There food is delicious and the prices arnt bad at all. There meals are very tasty, especially there enchiladas and the service is really good too. Will be returning again.
Jasmin Blackwood
Great Food and Atmosphere. Really enjoyed our experience at Zapata's,, great food and great atmosphere. Had friendly service and I will be coming back again!
AK47
Zapatas mexican. The restaurant was very busy, which is to be expected for a Saturday night, and the food was okay, enormous servings though! We had the nachos, some enchiladas and tacos, a good mix. For entree we had the queso dip with corn chips which tasted like a Le Snak. We had about 8 waiters ask us to order our dinner but not one took a drink order, a balance they might need to work on. Overall, a good experience.
Gino
Totally crap. Worst mexican food ever, they don't have any idea how to make real typical Mexican food and the worst sangria ever.
Joanna Smith
Love it. Great meal every time we go, this was a staple diet on a wednesday for the nacho! Keep coming back
Jason Taylor
It seems every meal comes with a frown at this place which is a pity as the food is good
Koby Lee Sota
Keep coming back to Zapatas!. Zapatas is THE best mexican restaurant in Adelaide without a doubt. They always have people walking in and there is never a night when it isnt busy! The food is wonderful, the specails are great!!! Its has wonderful intimate settings for just the two of you or great seating for groups. The staff are always friendly and they have VIP which entitles you to $15 off your total bill (which could get you that extra lucious cocktail).
Over all this place is great, anyone who says anything different is just being picky :P
Svt
Love it. Have seen some negative stuff so thought I might add my bit-there is nothing premix about the sangria or margaritas!!! they are the genuine article, I know cause I've seen them made. The place is always busy and the food is definitely not overpriced - I've been to pubs where the food is more expensive. Some people just want to complain. Food is great & atmosphere amazing. Cater for all tastes; vego & meat eaters. If you want it hotter, all you have to do is ask! give it a go!
Schmenz
Love it. Have eaten here a few times, once with my family from Victoria, so 5 of us and then with a group of 12. Both times outstanding service from the young gentleman with the accent, absolutely fabulous.

Both times I had the fajita's and loved them, while it doesnt look like much it is very filling. Everyone from both bookings loved their food - will definitely be back!
Dolce Dolce
Better than montezumas.... Food is bland, service is ok
ILoveFood
My favourite restaurant!. I keep reading negative reviews about this place and its inspired me to write something POSITIVE! Zapatas is always packed so they must be doing something right - its my favourite out of any Mexican restaurant in Adelaide (and I've tried them all). 1/2 price Margaritas night on Thursday night is fantastic, as is 1/2 price Nachos on Wednesday. Not the cheapest place around, but its the only place where I can devour the whole plate happily so I feel like I'm getting my money's worth!
Rachael
I have come here many times over the years for good food, despite the consistently poor service, however I recently brought a fellow foodie friend of mine here for his first taste of Mexican and we were both thoroughly disappointed with the food ( I'd already warned him about the service). Will only return for casual nachos and margaritas...maybe.
Aeroplate
Avoid. Extremely average food with rude service. I wouldn't go back the staff were rude and unpleasant. Food was whacked down in front of you. The Chicken (with Peanuts) was dry and bland. I have never had such a bad dining experience in my life.
Mel
A favorite among my group of friends. Good food and the margaritas are amazing!!
Pom
We were served by two members of staff. One very friendly girl, another who looked like she would rather be having teeth pulled. The food, as others have said, is not as good as even kits you can buy. The guacamole was the blandest I have ever tasted. All in all though, it wasn't a terrible meal, just lacking something and over priced. Drinks were very good however. I wouldn't eat here again.
Mike
Used to be good. Returned to this restaurant on a recent trip to Adelaide and found it to have become pretty average.

Food wasn't hot and half the meal sat on the table whilst we waited for the rest.

Lots better around. Give it a miss.
Sara
Overpriced & average. Sangria & margarita made from premix syrup & taste nothing like real beverages. Food was bland & generic. I've had better results from a supermarket packet. Is it so hard to make things a little more authentic? I know my home-made chilli is a million times better & only takes a little cumin & chillies to work the magic.
Nic
Best Mexican in Adelaide. Best mexican in Adelaide, fresh tasting and full of flavour and the beef fajitas are awesome. Have been going there over the last 8years and have never had a bad meal.
Conquistador De Amor
Don't go.. Far too expensive for what is easily-made Mexican. Service is slow and rude.
Hamomano
Don't go. Avoid. Waited an hour and a half for an rubbery tasting meal that was still cold in the center. Staff were rude and were often just waiting around chatting while people were waiting to have their orders taken.

Eat the beans!!! If u don't I'll regret it!! Trust me:)

Zapata’s has to be one of the best Mexican restaurants in Adelaide if not the best! It’s definitely better than the poor cousin down the road.

I'd say we had an enjoyable dinner, however I don't think the food was really that spectacular. Perhaps we had just ordered the wrong dishes?
Delicious Please
A recent catch-up with a friend brought us to Zapata's, a Mexican restaurant nestled among other eateries on Melbourne Street in North Adelaide. Let's be honest, I'm not a very experienced eater of Mexican food. I can count the number of times I've had Mexican food with two hands and am utterly hopeless at pronouncing most of what's on the menu, so I wouldn't really know what was authentic and what was just an imitation of Mexican food. However, having said that, I found Zapata's to be the best place I've been to so far and it has inspired me to go out and try more of this yummy cuisine. My friend and I ordered a combination of dips and chips as an appetizer and a main of fajitas to share, along with a large jug of Zapata's Mexican soft drink. The Ribs Zapata had initially caught my eye but after asking for further details from a really enthusiastic waiter (details on service below), we realised the size wasn't going to justify the price. What's more, my friend has ordered this sa

Mexican at its finest! I have been here time and time again and love it. They have amazing food and it’s all so cheesy and fantastic. It’s terrible but I always overeat when I go to Zapata’s because I want a deep fried pancake thing for dessert which I do not know the technical name of. Mains I have gotten both the Enchilada Grande and Chimichanga and both are equally amazing.

Special Nachos: Tortilla chips with cheese, jalepeno peppers, guacamole, tomato con chilli and sour cream. *hearts* You got to have nachos if you are having Mexican. It was a bit dry though; would have preferred it with a bit more sauce.
