Review Abbots And Kinney - Adelaide

Holly MD
First and probably last visit, after high hopes from all the reviews. It’s in a good spot which is great. Coffee was too hot and to have to pay an extra dollar for Oat or Almond milk is a bit ridiculous. It costs $4 for a carton of it. The croissant served was burnt and dry.

Croissants you will die for...I tried the chocolate almond croissant and it just melted in the mouth. The coffee was also a great complement.

Very friendly staff and nice bakery!

If you are a pastries lover and searching for the bakers then I would like to recommend this shop. I have recently gone there with my friends and had a nice time. The coffees and pastries were very yummy. It is like they pour their heart to make the pastries which turns out so yummy and beautiful, look wise. Their prices are also very reasonable.

One of the best pain au chcolats I've ever had! Great coffee and incredible service. The spot is a cute little nook in the city, definitely perfect for a quick snack and cuppa!
Jane Mcwell
After reading all great reviews, I went there and I bought a croissant and pain au chocolat. They are more like brioche, not flaky at all, did not taste butter like in France. They were expensive. My friends and I won’t go back.
Eduardo Montiel
I went at 11 it's probably late for this place because they didn't have many people options of pastries left, I ate a lemon glazed croissant and it was REALLY GOOD!!!!! Incredible taste

Delicious sandwiches, recommend the pulled pork and the panko chicken, also recommend getting a side serve of roast vegetables. Really good coffee too, and friendly service. Nice setting.Ticks all the boxes.

I'm delighted to always find something vegetarian & delicious on the menu!! The staff are always happy to make a vegan lunch option for me too!!

Amazing as always. Must laugh at these fake 1 star reviews by what is most likely 1 degenerate. Funny how the 3, 1 star reviews are from 1 friendship group and all made in the last hour. Fake accounts. Fake News. Gotta stop and laugh at the extent some people go to. Grow up Dogs. Anyways, check this place out- they are amazing xo

A&K catered for my hens night and it was an absolute hit!! The staff were so easy to work with and the desserts were delicious. Couldn't be happier and highly recommend!

Amazing food, genuinely friendly staff & cool decor ~ felt very welcome & the prices are fantastic for the incredible quality that you receive...all these things are rare to find in one place these days, so well done

Not only are the baked treats exceptional, the coffee's aroma akin to that of a virgin Colombian unicorn, and wait staff exceedingly helpful with nothing but passion for their art. My only gripe is the fact I can't buy A&K's pastries on the eastern states.
Dusty Rietveld
The staff are amazing, the food is incredible! Love this place

One of my all time fav cafes. The staff are overly attentive. Nothing is an issue for them. Even my weak long black with cream on the side. 😝 Always always a pleasure being there.

I used to love getting a plain croissant from Abbots, they were the best croissants I have ever had! However last few months that i have had one something has changed and they are no longer buttery and crispy. It's like they have started freezing them or something and it tastes just like a coles one. Super disappointing :(

We came across this fabulous little coffee and pastries shop on a cold winters morning. Excellent coffee and magnificent pastries with a twist had us going back for more over the next two days that we were in Adelaide. Staff were really friendly and helpful. This place is gold!!

Stumbled on AnK’s looking for a yummy Saturday breakfast and got a fantastic meal and coffee... but the pasty takes things up to 11... SO GOOD!

We were recommended to come here for great coffee and pastries and we were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming and we had a great chat about were we are from originally. This will be our coffee stop whenever we are in the CBD from now on.

Good service and heavenly hot chocolate + yummiest pastries. Flaky... multiple layers... airy

Perfect coffee! Didn't even need sugar! Amazing food! So delicious! Great atmosphere! Awesome tunes! Seriously the best music to chill out while having brunch!

I had some delicious sourdough toast this from Abbots & Kinney this morning, yum! I later realised when I went to buy some lunch that I had been given the wrong change, when I went back to let them know, they gave me the correct change back with absolutely no fuss. This might seem like such a small thing, but these guys not only nail delicious food, but they are nailing great customer service as well! Thanks guys!

Awesome coffee, Awesome food & the staff are Amazing!!

The only reason I've given this place three stars is because I have yet to dine here... I've had their coffees multiple times and love it...they do really good coffees.... I'm sure I'll increase the rating after dining in :)

Can only say that I’ve had their goods from the Sunday markets. Have tried almost all their offerings and the majority are very nice. Will be trying the cafe next chance I get.

Mushroom pesto cheese sourdough toastie was delicious. So much flavour from pesto and the bread was great. Toasted so it had nice crunch.
The banana in pyjamas was nice too. I don't usually eat sweet foods for breakfast so glad this wasn't over the top sugary. I liked the chewy texture of the dehydrated bananas on too.
Coffee also good here.

While travelling from Melbourne....
So they’re rated as one of the top bakeries in Adelaide, so I had to pay it a visit to testify myself. And I couldn’t concur more. The pastries were just beautiful and there was an extensive and quality selection. Fresh, crispy and so tasty!!

I really wanted to love this place, but shame the food didn't live up to all the hype! I was left with a hole in my soggy pie and the flavours weren't there.

This tiny eatery is always packed and for good reason. I finally arrived here early enough on a weekday morning to grab a bite to go.

After drooling upon the delectable window display for a few minutes, I opted for a leek and bechamel cheese flaky pastry. It was a top choice. The sweet and savoury treats on offer appear to change often. There are some seats available for in house dining, although they fill up quickly and it can feel claustrophobic.

Came here because of the ugly raspbetty, it was highly recommend to me to try, despite its name ugly it was absolutely delicious, they should really call it unforgettable raspbetty. Regret sharing it, I should have bought one for my self. The cafe looked very nice and cosy and staff are friendly. Will definitely be coming back here for the ugly raspbetty.

Nice cakes (what there is) and friendly staff.
Average for a coffee shop not out of the ordinary.
A bit pricey even for the location.
There are better places down the road.
easy and fairly quick service fr a drop by coffee.

After having lunch, my husband told me that one of his colleagues has recommended this place. Knowing that I have a sweet tooth, he suggested that we should check it out since we are already near by. After lunch time, I assumed the display cabinet doesn't have much to offer already as it is not full of goodies anymore. What caught our eyes is this cronut looking pastry. I asked the lady behind the counter if it is cronut but similar to it. Apparently it is just a raspberry pastry with cinnamon and sugar coating. Sounds divine to me. So ordered that and a skinny flat white on the go. The pastry was delicious. The raspberry filling was not sweet at all which balances the cinnamon and sugar coating. I will definitely come back and have that again. As for the flat white, it was pretty mild. I was hoping for those typical Melbourne flat white that knocks your socks off. My husband informed his colleague about our experience and it was suggested that next time, to request for a double shot as Adelaide coffee is not very strong at all. Keeping that in mind, I wouldn't mind trying it again the second time. Overall, very good service and amazing pastry.

Abbots and Kinney is always a safe bet for coffee, breakfast, lunch or a pastry. Their pastry cabinet always tempts and their pies are delicious. Love the breakfast menu.

Abbots and Kinney is very conveniently located and has a really cool interior. It felt like a little part of Melbourne in Adelaide.

Went there for lunch and got the Hallouminati Burger. The bread was soft and the burger was delicious. Well cooked mushrooms and really yummy halloumi.

Did not like the salad at all. But in all, loved what I got for the price I paid.
Mashedpotato
Fantastic bakery, with fantastic baked goods.
They rotate the pastries around so every time you go, there will be something new.
I need to come back and try the breakfasts. Can back and tried the quince, rhubarb tart, loved it, a beautiful balance of flavours

Delicious granola and really good coffee. That is all. Need to type more characters. And a few more. This place has very nice coffee. And the granola, yep. Enough.

Love the unique settings of the cafe ! Had Danwich and A+K Tart and they were so so so delicious , definitely live up to my expectation! Staffs were friendly too.

Beautiful place for breakfast! Top that with the huge range of pastry goodness (oh that Golden Gaytime pastry is the bomb) and good coffee - now that's a great morning sorted 👍
Andrew Lord
Outstanding coffee and very good pastries in a quieter end of town. Good service from friendly people. Seating outside on the footpath for some people watching. What is there to dislike?

I've heard many good things about this place, and I must say I was not disappointed. Trendy interior. Trendy and super friendly staff - a huge plus! And delicious offerings. I tried a special lamb pie with a side of coleslaw and yummy tomatoey relish. All in all a promising first visit!

Had breakfast here this morning and loved it. The detailed interiors set off perfectly a curated selection of baked goods and short order items, all pulled off with great coffees. We had an avocado on toast creation, but sophisticated and refined, and some mushrooms and hummus on sourdough. Both were fantastic. Good value for money and friendly staff make this place one to repeat in our short visit to Adelaide.

Delicious baked goods on offer here. I had a donut filled with passionfruit curd with a caramel toffee chip on top. So tasty I polished it off instantly. Lots of choices on offer, for me their donuts looked a winner. I'm thinking I'll try the salted caramel choc coated donut next time. The biggest problem is there too much to choose from.

Real good place for a decent cup of coffee and to just chill. I had the Mushroom, Spinach and smoked mozarella in a pastry and it tasted so good! That smoked mozarella was just perfect!

My friends from Adelaide have been raving about this little cafe. Luckily for me when I was back recently in Adelaide, it was opened on a Saturday morning. Such lovely staff as I was caffeine deprived when ordering my breakfast. I enjoyed my El Doro and coffee. What a great recommendation and will definitely return!

Took away their Granoel Gallagher for breakfast this morning. The serving was on the small side, and definitely not justified by the $9 price tag. Having said that, the granola was very nice. It came with a dollop of yoghurt and some poached rhubarb. I added a lot of almond milk to the granola because it would have been way too sweet otherwise; as soon as I lifted the lid the sugary smell wafted out! Definitely needed the milk to water it down a little.

Overall I really enjoyed the granola. It managed to stay decently crunchy even after sitting in the milk for a while. However, I'm not sure I would get it again simply because I don't think it's worth $9!

Side note - props to this place for the creative names!

Hello, my name is Amanda and I am an Abbots addict! I've only recently realised I've never reviewed Abbots and Kinney (A&K), conveniently located nearby my workplace in the Adelaide CBD and thought it was time to share my addiction with the world. And it appears I'm not on my own, with A&K having just won "Best new restaurant or cafe" in the 2016 City Awards.

I’ve heard of the legendary pastries of Abbots and Kinney and have long wanted to come down and try them. One such opportunity presented itself on a Tuesday morning that I was off and Mr Foodie happened to be on a job in the city. Well, well, well here’s our chance. A quick 30 minutes, it’s all we need. We found the store on Pirie Street, sitting beside Chicken & Pig. As soon as we walked in the waft of fresh buttery pastries lifted us. The sounds of the coffee machine and fragrant scent of coffee beans made it even more promising. Beautifully displayed on the counter were some of the fluffiest, puffiest, highest pastries I’ve seen with great names. Some sweet treats for later perhaps.

Just went for coffee, which was really good and ended up eating doughnuts, biscuits and pastries. Seriously delicious. Service also fantastic!!

The Jean Claude Van Hamme. The Barry Croquer. The Granoel Gallagher. There's a wicked sense of humour at Abbots & Kinney, surpassed only by their dedication to flaky pastry. The crowning glory here is the sfogliatelle, of which they only bake a dozen. If luck strikes you, they occasionally bake a second batch. Owner Jonny Pisanelli says he'd love to make more but "they're so much work".

What a great little cafe in the middle of Adelaide's busy CBD. Jonny has done a fantastic job with each dish served with his signature pastry and all very different to the next - the pastry really does melt in your mouth. I stopped by for lunch ordering the Flaky Danish Pastry with served will all my favourite breakfast foods on top, at a great price of only $13.

Tried this cute little lunch spot today everyone is talking about.. So basically it's pastry and salad lunch! The pastry was super fresh and the topping nice and delicious. The side of salad was nice and fresh with variety of greens. The only small criticism is that I found the salad to be a little bit too salt for my liking . Having said that that won't stop me from coming back to try some more.. The sweets also looked very good so I'm looking forward to trying them.

Lovely food and staff. Pastries were soft and flakey. Loved the Danwich! Limited menu options during weekends. Makes me wish work was in the CBD.
I Only Eat Desserts
Many many years ago before this blog (think around 5 to 6 years), I was hunting for macarons down on Gilles St Markets. C was tagging along for the ride and got an awful coffee from a place. When we arrived at From Scratch Patisserie, the state of the coffee somehow popped up in the conversation. The young man behind the stand said that no one should be drinking bad coffee and made C one on the house (if anyone wants to know, C said it was good). I suspect that Abbots and Kinney is run by the same young man who served us and owned From Scratch Patisserie. These small kind gestures I find hard to forget :)

I'd say personally this was the highlight of our food journey and definitely a must go whenever you decide to visit Adelaide. Flaky, buttery, thinly multi-layered and light, yes their croissants simply nail the way they should be. Make sure you come early (in the morning) to catch Johnny's Sfogliatelle - filled with ricotta cheese and candied orange rinds as they only make about 12 pieces per day, as well as Almond Croissant and his other savory treats (Jean Claude Van Hamme and/or Barry Croquer - both are so oomphazing!

This now brick and mortar establishment has gone from strength to strength. No surprise there as they continue to win hearts and tummies all over Radelaide with their addictive pastries (both sweet and savoury). They recently took out an award for their Pirie Street fitout at the DIA awards in SA. Simple, but effective contrast between timber and the use of black surrounds with beautiful light fittings are the key it seems.
Had the pleasure of trying out their savoury offerings during our studio workshop. Chicken and chorizo sausage rolls, along with harrisa, spinach and vegetable filled pasties made our lunch most enjoyable. They also have salads which changes daily. So does their buttery offerings. Johnny, the lovely owner was very helpful and will accommodate your catering needs.
Last words: look out Red Door! 😀

I had the almond and custard croissant which was delicious. It had a crunchy outside and a moist, light filling. All the baked goods here look enticing. Located on Pirie, it's perfect to stop by on your lunch break for a sweet treat, or there's plenty of space to sit down for a coffee.

Have always loved the pastries so I was delighted to find out that there is now a permanent location. Love the coffee, love the service and definitely love the food! Definitely one of my favourite places for breakie ❤️

There isn't much to say about this place other than- THIS IS THE BEST BAKERY in ADELAIDE HANDS DOWN. Like their Facebook page for an update on their latest concoction. Yes, they really do taste as good as they look. I'd actually say they taste even better.
Rehany_maharani
Their Croissants always be my favorite whenever I visit this place. Friendly staff and quite simple decoration. They have various pastries and fresh salad! All the pastries and cakes are really tasty and also homemade!Bon a petit! 👍🏼🍰🍫 definitely worth to try!

Great service and absolutely mouth watering, awesome food+coffee. A quaint little place that allows escape from the city to treat yourself. Prices are a tad high but totally worth it for the quality. 100/100 :)
