Review East Terrace Continental - Adelaide

Karima Ruhi
Tasty food, however, quantity wasn't generous. Food presentation wasn't upto the standard of the cafe. Great for family or group dining. Friendly staff but they should work on staffing in busy time. Had to wait around 45 mins for food. Interior decoration was quite thoughtful. Overall, good but not amazing!!

The place to go for breakfast in the CBD. Loads of options, fantastic service and a prime location. I ordered the vegetarian offering and also a green juice and went back the next day for the same and can say that the quality is consistent. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Fairly good food and friendly efficient staff prices seem quite reasonable

We had breakfast at ETC many years ago whilst visiting Adelaide, it was fabulous and has been our benchmark ever since. We were a bit unsure if we should return but so pleased we did today. We were not disappointed, generous servings, poached eggs cooked to perfection, well presented, great service and above all great flavour. Well done on maintaining this standard over many years, ETC continues as one of our most memorable breakfasts.

Impeccable Service and delicious food. Foodi tour for brighton nch and we were made to feel so welcome.

The place is easily visible from outside as it's bright red decor is quite attractive. Ordered the banana pancakes and a coffee. Not the best coffee I've had, stale and too small. I couldn't hold the cup handle as it's tiny and you can't really put your fingers in it to hold it. The pancakes were average. Not served with ice cream (even though I asked for it), they tasted bland. Pretty expensive for a few pancakes slapped together and a coffee. Almost $20. Staff are friendly though. Won't be back sorry... just too expensive.

Delicious filling breakfast, nice poached eggs with slightly hard bread

Used to come here every Sunday for breakfast before work about 4 years ago as was my favourite brunch menu. Have tried it a few times since over the years, but have been disappointed. Food is nice, but maybe there's been a change in chef or owner or something because it is nowhere near as good as what it was. Unfortunate :(

Do yourself a favour and try the Moscato Sunshine this is such a refreshing drink plus the coffee is devine, the service from Alex and the team is first class. We also booked my nephews birthday Party upstairs

One of my old time favourites for brekkie especially down Rundle street. Their eggs hollandaise is one of the best I've tasted. Unfortunately I'm not sure if there's been a change of management the last year or two (mainly because I don't recognise anyone there anymore) but the food quality has gone down since then .. still good but just not as good ...

Apart from waiting 25 min for our food..my partner ordered the the works and thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered the smashed avocado which was bland and something a 5 year old can put together better.
No salt and pepper on our table and poor service. We won't be coming back here in a hurry.

Although the food was nice enough, it was bland with little flavour. I had the Eggs Benedict and my husband the Rusty Eggs. The brioche went soggy on mine and there was only a small piece of procuitto on my husband's which was the only thing with flavour. The service was very good and the drinks and food were brought to the table quickly.

Have been here a few years ago, portions used to be bigger and prices were lower, food was tastier. Looks as though there is a new menu , more expensive and poorer quality. Ordered the avo on toast with 'roasted tomatoes' and yoghurt dressing. Cheap white bread used, the tomatoes were just sundried tomatoes a couple on top and the watery yoghurt poured on top did nothing good for the dish. The combination was not good. The service was also a shambles over staffed for a Saturday arvo, as soon as we sat down we were asked if we were ready to order, we said no, and within 30 seconds another staff member came and asked us the same question. This happened another 3 times with the remaining staff members. It got quite frustrating. Room for improvement, but nice location and convenient.

My boyfriend and I had breakfast today. My order was incorrectly noted and further incorrectly brought out twice. We were apologized to and offered free coffees, coffees to which neither seemed strong or hot, as we requested. Unfortunately the food, eggs, bacon & otherwise all seemed prepared in bulk & overall disatisfying, especially considering the price paid. Will not be recommending.

I dined here once for breakfast and thought it was very average. We were are large group (probably around 15) and everyone's food was just okay. Although the menu is extensive, it unfortunately consists of a large variety of poor quality food. I had the field mushrooms, which cost $15 for some roasted mushrooms and tomato. The bread served with the breakfasts (mine included) was cheap white bread with no texture. My meal was saturated in oil, and left my stomach feeling quite uneasy. It's a shame really because the location, atmosphere and service is really great! I wouldn't return due to the overpriced, average food... I do hope the menu is revised and the food quality improves, because this place has so much potential!!

After walking around the morning again trying to find somewhere open for breaky we were recommended to visit this place. Very cute and casual ! I had the corn fritters with poached eggs hollandaise and tomato corn salsa. It tasted great but did have a little to much hollandaise and could have had a tad more tomato salsa. I told the waitress and she was great about it ! Overall it was very reasonably priced for what we had and the vibe was nice.

A large group of us girls met here for brunch and luckily we had pre booked a table. This place was buzzing and obviously extremely popular. Our dishes did take a very long time to come out but seeing how busy it was it was kind of expected... The food was okay, big serves, nothing spectacular but still nice.

Came here right when it opened on a Friday morning so I didn't experience the crowds that others have reported. I tried the Chill Bar, which came at a rather generous serve with a lot more garlic yoghurt than I expected. For some reason from the description I thought it would be a smear of yoghurt. Nevertheless it did not affect my opinion of the dish. I was very happy to find the eggs perfectly poached - oozy runny yolks encased in delicate whites that are just cooked enough to hold shape. Overall the dish was decent, but the flavours weren't anything outstanding. I also would've preferred the dish a little hotter rather than the lukewarmish temperature at which it arrived.

Got the eggs Benedict and an apple juice. Nice food. Slightly expensive, meal cost $18.50. Good service. Serving size was decent as it can be seen in the photo. Would probably go back, recommend it.
HoneyBintheCity
Like it here. Nice service, good food and good location. It is nice to eat outside as inside is a tad squishy but nothing to complain about. Brunch options are great and are all day which I love, juices are made fresh and value for money is good. Will return. :)

Never had a bad experience here! Breakfast is always amazing with a large menu so you have a lot to choose from. Park across the road, enjoy your meal and go shopping afterward! However, make sure you book a table as it is always packed! (not surprising!)

Booked for 12 didn't get seated until 12:30 then had to wait and hour and a half with no apologies and then they even got our order wrong, appalling service all around!

The food here is good and filling, staff are also very nice and I tried one of the smoothies which were awesome as well. It's a little dark, but the atmosphere was very welcoming

Coffee was pretty good. Had the green chilli scrambled eggs, nice and spicy with a side of beans, quite flavoursome. Service was nice and friendly
MKC Inc.
ETC has a huge variety of breakfast foods and freshly squeezed juice to choose from. We ordered the big breakfast and the vegetarian which was scrambled eggs with pesto, asparagus and feta on a salad of baby spinach, cherry tomatoes and avocado. The salad was nicely dressed with salt and lemon but didn't quite compliment the eggs. Eggs and lemon are not a good mix. Another thing was I couldn't quite taste or see any asparagus in the eggs. The eggs in the big breakfast were under cooked but everything else on the plate was nice.

Service is lovely, people are live and friendly. But the snitzle size was little. $23.90, I think we expected a little more. I would come back here again, but not for a snitzle.

A quick catch up with colleagues meant that we all ended up here, as it is a pretty decent location with plenty of parking, albeit sometimes hard to find, around the area. I have been here many times before for breakfasts, it is has always been very good. This time was no exception. Everything was fresh and tasty. The only criticism I have, is that it gets quite noisy when busy, but in a way, that is also a good thing, because it means it is a well respected food venue.

If I went to the East Terrace Continental and wrote my review solely based on the food, it would range between 2.5 and 3.0. The menu encompasses a wide range of flavours and tastes and I was thoroughly impressed with the range of cuisine being offered. The food was tasty and well presented.

The biggest disappointment was the quality of the service received. Rude waitresses who were extremely pushy and something I could have done without. The man who seemed to be the owner was the only tolerable person there.

I would return to this place only if I could get take out or if they fixed their shift ordering system

I used to rate ETC very highly, and frequent here a lot for their breakfast, however the last few times I have been here the food has been extremely disappointing. I order Poached eggs, and they have come out boiled the last 3 times I have been there. For a restaurant that prides itself on its breakfasts, poaching eggs correctly should be a basic skill. I won't be going back as there are 30 other much better cafes in Adelaide now that do much better breakfasts. Sorry ETC...please fix these basics and you might see customers coming back!

Having been here a couple times ETC has continued to impress with its huge varieties of freshly squeezed juices and assortments of breakfast and healthy lunches. Simply delicious.

Waited 45 mins for breakfast when the restaurant was at 50% capacity. Since the new owners took over this place the standards have certainly dropped.

ETC offers a standard, large-range menu with relatively lower-end prices and corresponding quality of food. Feeling slightly hungover and rather ravenous, I excitedly went for the works. Everything tasted quite unexceptional and rather bland, with the toast a bit hard and chorizo a bit salty for the morning. The extra side of avo cost $3.80 and was quite a measly serving so I wasn't too impressed with that. The best thing about the meal was the mushrooms and that I was super full at the finish line. I accompanied my meal with a special juice, the chia fresca which was fresh and tasty but a whopping $8.50. The other meals ordered by my companions also tasted of average make. As we were brunching with a large group, we were seated upstairs in a dimly lit, unvibely room. Though service was alright as meals arrived quickly.

I've been to ETC several times because it's so close to work. They have a large menu with a wide variety. Food is generally of a high standard and I haven't been disappointed. Nothing is crazy good but things I would recommend include the cotoletta burger (schnitzel), and the prosciutto salad. They also do an awesome banana bread with lemon curd and also hot cakes. The acai berry smoothie is anything thing I usually get. The service is a bit hit and miss. Not always friendly and they have around 50% of the time screwed up my order. They always are happy to fix it, but sometime on your work break you don't always have time to wait for them to cook your meal again. If it wasn't for these factors I would've scored them higher cause I do rate them.

Location, Location, Location! ETC (East Terrace Continental) is situated between PJ O'Briens & Africola and overlooks the parklands. At Fringe time, it is incredible. It's got a pretty great rep too, so book ahead. Mainly known for breakfast & lunch, it is often packed quite early!

I've always loved coming here for brekky on the weekend with friends - it's a perfect way to start the day, and I'm at the age of swapping a hangover for good breakfast. It's a good age.

My last experience was just okay. I still like the place, but the service was a bit slap dash & my reservation was lost. I ordered the eggs benedict and it was also ok. Wasn't amazing, just okay. Not huge amounts to say about it to be honest!! I was with family and just small things like asking specifically for the orange juice to be small with no ice, and when it came it was huge and full of ice.

My dad's cooked breakfast had 2 eggs, but they were on top of each other, so it wasn't until he was nearly finished that he discovered the other one. Other than that it was good. Not super special, just good.

Note that I have had many great meals here, but that was a while ago & I would still recommend for a lazy weekend morning.

Once you've read through the extravagant menu 10 times and finally made a choice, you're bound to enjoy. Food is good, reasonably priced. Coffee is ok. Sitting inside is a little dark, but sitting outside you get the noise of the busy bus stop right next to your table.

Wake me up before you go go! If you ever need a great place to eat for breakfast, ETC will never let you down. Food is made to perfection, absolutely will help energised you for the day. Their new flaming hot choc is a real ripper of a drink, as its mixed with cinnamon and a dash of bourbon...heavenly. With an extensive list of foods, you will probably spend longer deciding on what to eat than eating! Overall, ETC is a solid choice for breakfast or lunch. with choices in all the food groups. Though the lighting inside can be a bit brighter.

Good food, large serving sizes and well priced.
I had "the works" breakfast which filled me right up. Next time I want to try the chilli eggs which looked delicious.
Laura
I had a simple avocado and sourdough breakfast here last week and it was really lovely. The avocado was really fresh and tasty - perfectly ripe - and the serving was really generous. Great bread and coffees. The decor is a bit dated inside and could really do with some freshening up but that's not so important when they do the food right.

How exciting! A new contender on our favourite places for breakfast list. The Easterly aspect overlooking the park is perfect for a fair weather winters day. The staff were friendly and attentive. The establishment was full at 10am Sunday morning yet the food was delivered in good time at the right temperature and perfectly made. The menu itself is one of the more diverse offerings in Adelaide, providing choices beyond the standard toast, egg, bacon and cereal fare. A number of dishes offer different ingredients such as oven roasted tomatoes, basil, basil pesto, feta cheese. The plate sizes conveniently differ as well, use the pricing to help you with how hungry you are. We paired 2 of the smaller dishes, an egg dish and a mushroom dish. They matched perfectly and left enough room for a serve of delicious banana pancakes with caramel sauce with coffee. we left very satisfied and meandered through the botanic gardens.

Before the breakfast scene developed in Adelaide, this was the place everyone went to for breakfast/brunch. But over the years, the menu hasn't changed much and even though there's a big variety on the menu, ETC has lagged behind several other cafes which offer more unique dishes.
Sahar&Aurelio
Great variety in food choices. The caramel banana pancakes were delicious! I've also ordered the eggs Benedict before too which was great! Hollandaise sauce was very creamy!

Dear ETC cafe When I requ.... Dear ETC cafe

When I requested my sandwich toasted did you think I was joking around? I had to toast the bread myself with my lighter. Will not be returning

0/420

Best breakfast in the CBD. Love this place especially if you can sit outside under the verandah. The food is excellentl my all time favourite is the banana and ricotta breakfast dish, it is served room temperature and if you like all the ingredients listed you will love it. Coffee always good, service can be a bit reserved but this place is always reliable
Vegagirl325
Horrible. We went to ETC and had to wait over 30 minutes for our food. Finally it started to trickle out dish by dish and then a waitress came over to us and told us that they were out of the pasta that my friend ordered, but they neglected to tell him until all of us had our food, probably around 40 minutes. In addition, the eggs that we ordered were flavorless, and the pancakes were nothing special. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Waited for more than 30min for a sandwich. Then I was told my order did not go through.

ETC absolutely delicious. I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. The food is absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced especially considering how big the serves are. The muffins although unique in shape and absolutely to die for and I would definitely suggest you try one. Other then that the avocado and chicken sandwich in your choice of bread is also delicious! Definitely a place I will be retuning to again.

Ordure. Waited for over an hour for very average fare. Do yourself a favour, go somewhere else. Anywhere!

We had a booking for 10.30am, food arrived at 12pm. Was it worth the wait? Not really. Fresh juices were good but they had run out of orange! Hubby enjoyed the full brekkie but the baked omelette was tasteless. Plenty of better options around.

Best banana pancakes I've had so far. Thick, fluffy stack served with caramel sauce and cream. Sooo good. Big serve, so they are super filling.

Shocking.. Well where do I start.
Monday the 9th of june 10:30am.
Walked in was full down stairs walked up stairs and the 4 of us sat on table 13.
Ordered 4 works plates. Bacon stone cold. Eggs not cooked. Sausage cold. Bread warm. Hash brown tasted nice but also cold. Mushrooms some raw and some cooked.
Would never go back or recommend to anyone. Lift your game. I think to many tables and only small kitchen. Please think twice before going there. If you are disappointed then dont say I told you so.

New brooms sweep clean. I was booked in to ETC for breakfast with 7 friends. Having not heard of it before I 'googled' it to check it out. I found a wide variety of reviews from 'really good' to 'not so good' so I was unsure what to expect. When we got there (9am Sunday morning) the place was already buzzing and well over half full. We were politely directed to our table upstairs on the balcony. Within minutes a waitress had brought cutlery up and advised us that we needed to order downstairs. After ordering, we only had to wait about 15 minutes for all 8 meals to arrive. Everything was delicious and generous in size. Coffee was excellent. All the staff were polite, friendly, neatly dressed and we were well looked after. During the morning we found out that ETC had recently changed owners and was gradually being refurbished. I would suggest to anyone contemplating a visit to ETC, ignore all those 'not so good' comments as they would most likely relate to the previous management, the new brooms are sweeping through with a new attitude.

I used to like this place, now it's more like a social gathering for the staff. Customers come last, service is slow, no one smiles, and the managers are more concerned with their own social lives with the staff rather than the customers. Stop flirting start working! The professionalism in this place has been lost. I've given it a few more chances, but won't be back. Food is outdated, nothing special. Sad... I used to love this place.

Fringe time isn't the best time.. Went in for brunch on a Sunday at 11, the place was absolutely heaving which is good nice to know ETC is popular. Ordered our food and drinks and got our juices in about five-ten minutes. Nice juices a little pricey but freshly made and very tasty.

Elapse to about forty five minutes after we've ordered and we figure we should alert one of the floor staff about our meals. They look dumb struck that we haven't been served yet. Another staffer has already tried to clear us out thinking we've finished before we've even got started.

Close to an hour after ordering our food comes out. Grilled asparagus with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs means just two measly stalks half hearted poached, gluggy eggs and heap of salmon. We've had that one before and it's had a lot more sex appeal than it did today, they really dropped the ball on that, just thrown onto the plate and it looked like hell.

The two works meals looked alright, no real difference than before but couldn't really appreciate any of it because by the time we got our we had to wolf it all down and bolt so we could make our respective appoitments by 1pm which isn't something you consider when you turn up at 11 for brunch.

ETC is usually so good and being so close to where i live just a boon but the kitchen just can't handle the fringe and the floor staff are over worked. Really should drop in tomorrow and chat with the manager about some kind of refund, but i doubt that will come of anything which is probably why you have to pay upfront so your committed come hell or high water.

In all honesty if the guy taking our order had said "By the way because the kitchen is really busy there's about a hour wait on food" all the stress would have evaporated and we could have picked up one of muffins or something.

Not too bad.. Had breakfast with a friend the other day. We had the traditional turkish breakfast and eggs Benedict with ham etc. Serving size was decent and taste wise was alright, nothing to shout about. Will try other items in their menu in the future.

I was very confused after dining at the ETC. It came highly recommended by locals but after the poor service and horrible food I cannot understand why.

We were there on a weekday for breakfast at 10am and it looked closed as half the lights were off and most of the dining room tables and chairs were packed up. We went in anyway and ordered eggs benny with juice. While waiting we watched our juice get made and saw it get placed on the counter. There were about 6 staff members and they were all sitting around behind the counter chatting. We were the only customers at this stage. While the staff sat around our juice sat too. After about 10 minutes one of the employees finally took the drinks to us. Then a staff member stood on the table next to us and started messing around with the ceiling, he was doing something with an airvent, making a lot of noise and looking very unprofessional. Then the other 5 staff members came over to stand by our table and watch this guy fix the ceiling instead of making our food. This looked very unprofessional and I could not understand why they couldn't do this when there were no customers around? Our eggs benny came after the staff had a good chat to their friend who came in and got food for free. The eggs benny had a disgusting tomato sauce on it which meant you couldn't taste the hollandaise. The eggs were hard boiled and all of it was cold. I would have complained about the meal but you could not talk to the staff as they were too busy talking to eachother about their personal lives.

Left feeling hungry as the food was not edible and confused as to why it was recommended in the first place. The most unprofessional service I have seen in a while.

Christmas Lunch. Great food but the service left a lot to be desired.

Disappointing. I have been going to ETC for years and always really tried to love this place but time and time again I am disappointed. The service is okay but the food is the real disappointment. I love my eggs poached, which I assume should be cooking 101 for a qualified chef. 9 out of 10 times my eggs are so undercooked that the egg white is oozing out when I cut it open. That is not the way I like my eggs, nor do most people! Eggs should only have the yolk running not the white!! My husband orders fried eggs from there and the white is also ALWAYS uncooked, luckily he doesn't mind eating them like that. I would complain when I'm there but the line and restaurant is so busy that I can't be bothered waiting another 20 mins for a freshly cooked meal that may or may not be cooked properly! There is no excuse to having undercooked eggs when you specialise food. Won't be going back again.
Antanth
Good - if you enjoy the taste of latex. I'm not sure how, but the poached eggs I had were 1. overcooked and 2. they were rubbery. The eggs themselves were also flavourless and of terrible quality, as was everything else on my 'works' breakfast (which was kinda small and expensive. Hadn't gone here for years and will avoid it in future.

To management - have pride in what you provide. When you are charging $17 for a big brekkie - you can use better quality ingredients for not much more cost, plus people are more likely to come back. I guess you have the advantage of your position so this will probably fall on deaf ears.
Rev
The service is laughable. The food is all acceptable but the waits are ridiculously long. Staff seem to have no idea what they are doing. This place would be well served by a better manager
Jenna
Horrible soggy scramble eggs and coffe served in take away cups when we were eating in. Also stuffed up our orders on a quite Friday morning. Wouldn't go back!
Glabac
Ho hum. Well despite the attempt at a hip makeover, the meals are pretty much exactly the same, with the same long waits and hit and miss staff - the food isn't particularly bad - but it's not nothing to write home about either - and when someone scowls and smacks plates down in front of customers it's bound to leave a sour taste in ones mouth!
Gabala19
Love an all day breakfast. After my favourite all day breakfast cafe Marmalade closed I was keen to find somewhere that offered similar food and breakfast all day. Thank goodness for ETC or I would still be on my search to find such a place. ETC offers an exciting lunch and breakfast menu however I was on the search for breakfast. I have dined here on many occasions and often order the fanned avocado on toast with a side of bacon and hash brown. The service is fairly quick but around lunch time be prepared to wait a little while (nothing too ridiculous) . If you are after a take away option the baguettes are a great option with many different combinations being offered. The only complaint I have is that every time I have asked for "crispy" bacon I have been given warmed ham, seriously its not that hard to take note of an order. I am tempted to order "barely cooked" bacon to see if I might be given cripsy bacon instead as it seems I am being given the opposite to my order. Aside from this I keep returning as everything else is to an excellent standard. The food is fairly pricey however it is pretty on par with similar cafes.

Good coffee and the Bircher muesli is great. Nice and fast which was is always handy
Skye Pie Norman
Terrible food. Ordered stuff that didn't come. Asked for table water didn't come. Messed up both food orders and drink orders. Eggs were over done. Burgers inedible. Coffee was terrible. All this for the low low price of over $40
Emma
Don't seat people 2 feet from the door to the toilets.

Pig and Chicken. Casual cafe with a great breakfast menu, which plates up well too. A definite starter after a boozy night. Try the ETC bug breakfast it's a hero maker.

Like previous reviewers have said, the service is hit & miss. The food is ok, It doesn't blow me away, but you can usually expect a decent breakfast... However you will pay! I'm a vegetarian & I wanted a big breaky style dish, so the waitress suggested I exchange the bacon & churrizo sausage for spinach, which sounded great! Until she told me the price. They do not substitute. So I payed for all of the meat which I did not receive, as well a serving of spinach which cost me over $20!!! For a VERY basic breakfast. My friend who I was dining with is gluten free which cost her $4.50 extra. What an expensive dietary requirement! Like I said, the food was fine, nothing new or exciting, but of standard. There isn't a lot open on Mondays so we had little options, but I would suggest looking elsewhere!
Feedme
Hmmmmm. The food is hit and miss as is the coffee and service in general - the place could do with a clean up too -- I've had worse but the overall feeling ande attitude/atmosphere in this place is cold and tired
Steamrollersam
Eat with your tastebudes, not your eyes. The berry pancakes looked horrible on the plate, drenched in gooey blood-coloured syrup. They actually tasted much better than they looked, and with a cup of cream on the side, at just over $12 it's a treat!

Fill 'er up!. This place is a buzzing and happening eatery. Well patronized for good reason. The food is of generous proportion, cooked well and the ingredients certainly look fresh enough.

The food service was quick, considering the crowd that was there and the waiters always had time for a quick friendly hello enough though flying around the place.

A good place to pick up a bite if you're down East Terrace way
Paris
Hopeless service. Other people sitting at our table when we arrived having booked beforehand. Man with tattoos on his forearm taking our order was one of the worst customer service workers I've come across. He was either incredibly rude or just as dumb as he looks. Food average, served with wonder white supermarket toast. Mixed up all our drinks. Awful experience try somewhere else
Pauline
Unbelievably bad service. After waiting 30mins for a coffee we queried the waiter and they assured us that it was on it way. After a further 20mins, a further two annoyed queries we got our one soy flat white with no apology or explanation. It wasn't the tardy coffee that annoyed us but it was more the attitude if the waiter and barista. Won't be going back.
Daisy Yum (daisyumblog)
One of the few places that make good coffees. Large range of selection for breakfast, eggs florentine is still my favorite. If you are there for a weekend, make sure you book, as they are always busy.
Artemis
I don't even know. My boyfriend and I went to ETC this morning because after reading all the mixed reviews on here we thought we had better see what all the fuss was about ourselves. Decor upon entry was unappealing and the place was miserably dark at midday when we arrived. Anyhow, the service was fine, the food came out surprisingly quickly and at the same time as our coffees, at first glance most of the menu looked delicious and appealing and it was pretty hard to choose but we eventually decided on the full breakfast and grilled haloumi on toast. The breakfast was depressing, it really seemed like they had cut a lot of corners putting it together. The bacon was almost too salty to eat, the tomato undercooked, the toast plain white bread - unbuttered. Eggs and chorizo were fine but that's pretty simple stuff. The worst part of the meal was definitely the 'hash brown' unsure if it can even be called a hashbrown, obviously house made which would be nice but ETC had definitely done something terribly wrong deciding to re-use old mash potato and microwave it or whatever they did because it really was inedible and foul.

The haloumi was alright, over cooked but tasty as haloumi generally is. I arranged a sad face on my plate with the dregs of my dreary breakfast and left never to return again.

Ruined my Birthday breakfast. Poor service!

The breakfast was great.. However the coffee comes in a takeaway paper cup and there were no tables available inside so we sat outside on a cold winters morning with no heating!!
Alison
This is one of the better breakfast establishments in the city. I love that they do fresh juices and serve T2 teas which are always a treat. If you're feeling indulgent their french toast served with bacon, apple and maple syrup is divine. Have and will return again.
Georgia
Very average and over priced for what you get! It used to be better but it has gone downhill, go to bar 9 for something new!
Chelsea
This place is going majorly downhill. Had breakfast there this morning, after waiting over half an hour our food was finally brought out (though people who arrived after us were served a lot quicker), my muffin was missing the extra ingredients that I had paid extra for and the waiter didn't seem to care at all, he just walked away after I told him it was wrong and never came back. We also had to ask for water multiple times.
The food is generic, nothing special, but what makes this place terrible is the staff.
AJC
Noisy, to the point of not being able to hear the one or two friends you are dining with, and an unpleasant argument over an undelivered coffee, with staff claiming it was not paid for and therefore would not be provided, was unsettling. If you have ever been there, and seen how busy it can be, do you thing that perhaps the friend who ordered and paid for the coffee may have a better recollection of it than the busy staff? Ask for a receipt.

Pretty standard. There are so many better places to go for a delicious and FRESH breakfast in adelaide than here.. it used to be pretty good but ETC needs to lift its game because there is now so many great breakfast spots with excellent service and far superior food.. location, especially come mad march in adelaide is probably what keeps this place going, i hadnt been here in a while but wasnt missing much..dont be lazy and head to hutt street for better options!

Busy but worth it. It's easy to see why so many people come here for brunch on the weekend, it is a lovely atmosphere, especially if you luck a place on the balcony. I'd book so you don't have to wait, and there is still sometimes a bit of a wait for food but its worth it, the coffee and breakfast we had was amazing.
Princess And The Frog
Both lunch and dinner are great!. Have been here both for brekkie and lunch. I love the brekkie here (as do lots of other Adelaideans apparently!!) but you really need to book on weekends!

Am I welcome?. I was apprehensive to try ETC after reading a series of shocking reviews on here, however being a curious sort, couldn't resist the opportunity to see for myself. After stepping inside and taking a menu to have a look, I approached the counter ready to order. Several staff were scattering around doing their thing, so I wasn't phased that nobody jumped to serve me immediately. Then a few more moments passed and I started to wonder if I was at the right place. Cash register directly in front of me - check. At least three staff members met my eye and didn't offer a smile, "won't be a minute" or even tell me to order elsewhere. Eventually a gentleman walked over and greeted me in a half-hearted fashion. On the plus side, my food arrived quickly and the waitress had a slightly friendlier demeanour. The meal itself was tasty, (I had a vegetarian frittata), but is that enough to venture back to try another dish off their extensive menu? That remains to be seen...

Has gone downhill fast over last months. I can whole-heartedly concur with the negative reviews of ETC (I notice that this has been the definite trend for the last few months - not a good review to be seen). The food is fine but the staff just have no idea of service. It was always my go-to place for brunch with friends or family, but the surly, unfriendly, not-giving-a-damn attitude of the staff on the last few visits, along with long waits and forgotten orders, has seen it crossed off my list.

Appalling customer service! Staff there need a serious attitude adjustment, the food is not worth the crappy service

Disappointing. Have eaten and / or had coffee there a few times in the past and enjoyed their prompt friendly service - not anymore, now its grumpy and ssssssssllllllllllloooooooowwwwww - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I got up and left after waiting more than 20 minutes for a long black coffee (only thing I ordered)

Food is ok but.... ETC has incredibly rude wait staff. No one is smiling they just dump your food on the table.

The place also needs a good clean.

Nice for coffee. I enjoy ETC for a morning coffee, but feel the vegetarian breakfast options are quite dull in their execution. Can't say anything for the non-vegetarian options, but my meat-eating friends seem to enjoy them.
Service and coffee are always good.

Down down down. After having great food here for a while I hadn't been in around 6 months and the quality of the food and the service had gone right down - such a shame that a place that was always a favourite has been reduced to basically being a yuppy haunt with management who obviously doesn't care for honest feedback..the food isn't THAT good to warrant an hour wait! A shame really

Food good but soooooo loud. Nice food and good selection, but it was so noisy that I couldn't hear my dining companions and left with a big fat headache. Probably won't return unfortunately......
Spicemarket
Could be better. Has always been one of my favourites but it needs to get with the times a little - salmon scrambled eggs were a little dismal (and small serving) and the bread options could be updated - how about some nice bakery bread options rather than the stock standard white thing that accompanies breakfast...?
Nom_nom_nom
Finally the kind of breakfast place I have been searching for in Adelaide with fantastic variety and REAL bread, not white Tip Top loaf. It was packed due to the Garden of Unearthly Delights and various other festivals in the area so hoping next time my scrambled eggs aren't so overdone, but all in all better than other offerings this city has provided so will definitely be back.

A good breakfast option.. We have eaten at East Terrace Continental a couple of times now - the range of breakfast options and the size of the servings are impressive. Customers will definitely leave feeling satisfied after eating at ETC.

A good way to kick off your morning, especially on a weekend.

Turkish eggs, unusual combo, great taste!!. Great coffee and a big brekky menu with lots of interesting choices - what more could you want? Good service and the prices are reasonable.
Tasahe
Tasahe. We have had great breakfasts here. The menu is diverse, the staff nice and friendly, the food great and a nice location.
FattiesInMelbourne
The breakfast was disgusting - over cooked and over-vinegared poached eggs, the hashbrown comes out of a 10kg bag of the same product, and there was just nothing special or tasty on the plate. Coffee was average, to be honest I'd rather have just walked back to Cibo for something better

Turkish eggs over easy. Such a great place for breakfast, even makes sitting on busy east terrace worth it (outside is lovely in the sunshine, but terrible when a bus pulls up every few minutes). The oven baked balsamic eggs are a gorgeous breakfast option, but I always go for the eggs on Turkish yoghurt; garlicky, creamy and very filling...

..... Je ne sais quoi. Don't know what it is about this place but I love it ... one of may favourite choice for breakfast. The service is efficient and friendly and the food unpretentious but always great. I've been in Adelaide for 12 years: places come and go but I still eat at this place

We have breakfast here when ever we are in Adelaide, love love love it. Our favourite place.
Adventures In Winterland
If there was one place that can claim to have started my love of breakfast, it is this one. ETC (East Terrace Continental, for non-Adelaideans) is one of the first places I went to for breakfast back in 2008, when a friend of mine and I started going on ‘breakfast adventures’ in the city. Since then it hasn’t changed a bit – they’re still serving breakfast all day and doing it superbly well. ETC has a cozy feel to it – wooden floors, tables and chairs make it inviting in both summer when the doors are opened and winter when it’s windy outside. They offer both breakfast and lunch, as well as a specials board which often includes the best bits. Whilst their eggs benedict is my usual staple, this time I decided to try their ‘chill bar’, a traditional Turk

The East Terrace Continental was a destination recommended to us by a few people so we ventured into Adelaide to check it out. We weren’t disappointed, some very organised staff & very efficient service made the experience very pleasurable. It was packed at 10am on a Saturday morning so maybe making a booking to guarantee a seat might be a good idea if you decided to eat at an earlier time. East Terrace Continental is a family friendly place with a projector playing a kids movie on the back wall & high chairs are available for the really young children. The food was tasty & reasonably priced, with decent portions that won’t leave you hungry. There are plenty of options available whether you’re after a savoury hit or you have a sweet tooth. You can also follow us on Facebook https://m.facebook.com/DeliciousFoodSA where will be doing competitions to giveaway vouchers for the places we’ve just visited.

A long morning walk calls for a hearty breakfast. So here we are at Cafe East Terrace Continental or etc in short. It was a public holiday and the place was so packed despite the ample seating they have.

East Terrace Continental (ETC) is simply amazing! (I should finish my review right here!). If you’re looking for anywhere to have breakfast, brunch or lunch in Adelaide, you should look no further than ETC.

I would say, this place is one of the best and few places that is open for breakfast down the east end. The food will not blow you away, but when reasonably quite, this place is great to come to when you want a good, solid, predictable cheap eat. There are so many staples of mine here, the arancini ball salad is great for under $15 dollars and the big breakfast is really well priced at $16 and wont break the budget. The pasta specials are always good and there is always lovely seafood specials too. The breakfast menu goes until 3:30pm so if you rise late after a big night you know you will get food and its a great place for a catchup with friends, gossip and brunch. If your sitting outside however, mind the buses which will keep your conversations to a yelling level if its busy enough. The service could be worked on. The waiters make you feel like you are taking up their precious time and any extra help needed is perceived

Not my favourite experience at ETC, but it definitely won't deter me from coming back. I just love their breakfast menu and poached eggs too much!
