Great tasting food at a reasonable price. The service is also good, with very friendly staff and short waiting times. There are also some great vegan/vego options for those inclined. I can't wait to come back and try more. Try the shallot cakes, they're amazing!
I'm obsessed with their Salt and Pepper Eggplant! It is their speciality. Its crunchy and salty on the outside and soft eggplant on the inside + fried rice - so addictive! Their other items don't compare unfortunately. The place isn't the fanciest of places, but I love how you can come in for some quick casual Chinese food (or takeaway) and the service is prompt and friendly. Definitely come here for the salt and pepper eggplant!
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Adelaide. I would say their food is really nice & flavourful. I love the hot & sour seafood soup & The E-shand chicken which is simply amazing. Coriander chicken, crispy honey chicken, Chinese green, East taste fried rice, mapo bean curd clay pot are all dishes one must try. Miss eating out here as I have been living overseas for a while.. will definitely visit you guys on my next trip..
I love you food & often have a craving for it, but can't always drive into town - Please start using a delivery service - I would order from you all the time if I could get it delivered :)
Service was prompt and friendly. They open till late at night which is a plus point especially after a late shift. Had bbc which was broad bean, bean curd and Chinese chutney which to us was lacking in flavour and taste. Highly recommend the lemongrass pepper pork chop. They were crispy and coated with the sauce. Would return.
East Taste has got to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Adelaide. Family friendly and suitable whether you're a large group or a single diner. The service is always excellent and the food is always to perfection. The e-Shan eggplant dish is amazing and can be done for meat eaters and vegans! Prices are also very reasonable.
Shallot cakes are incredible, as is the salt and pepper eggplant and fried rice. We also had the sizzling garlic prawns which were equally wonderful. Great food, very fresh, all around great experience!
Love this place! If ur up for a late night feast then this is the place! The dishes are delicious, great size and packed full of flavour with excellent prices and a great wine list. Service is prompt as, not the friendliest but to the point! Everything is good, but do urself a favour and try; salt and pepper eggplant, BBC, crispy Peking beef, pork ribs and definitely their shallot cakes! Yumbers!! 👌
Sensational food.
My friend and I shared Shallot Cakes; Salt & Pepper Bean Curd; Salt & Pepper Eggplant, and East Taste Noodle with seafood. The portions were large, and with a bottle of sparkling Shiraz cost us $75. Great value.
Highly recommend East Taste if you're in the area and keen for some quality Asian cuisine. They also trade much later than their competitors on Gouger St.
Nice food and servings. Ordered the garlic and butter pork chop, crispy honey chicken and salted egg plant. Portions was decent for 2 people. Would come again.
I ate here for the first time a few nights back and ordered 4 chicken and sweetcorn soups because I had my wisdom teeth out. Best chicken sweetcorn soup i've had in a while- there was none left the next day haha.
I've eaten here on so many occasions, I would not be able to count anymore. I'm a massive fan of the crispy beef (actually crispy, with a delicious plum sauce) and their BBC. Oh, the BBC makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I know this is highly debated in Adelaide, but I'm convinced this is the best BBC on gouger street. The shallot pancakes are also regularly on my order- beautiful, crispy pastry, delicious filling! Do yourselves a favour and try it here. They're open crazy hours so you've no excuse not to go!
This is a hidden jewel on Gouger street, serves great Chinese food authentically prepared. The service staff is great and the restaurant always has a very energetic vibe always.
Good option for vegetarians as well and some nice beverage options make the place a paradise for foodies like me.
Nice place, friendly staff. But not as good food overall as BBQ City. Still an enjoyable feed. Needs a larger drinks menu such as coconut drinks and Asian smoothies.
Went here to eat around 11:15pm and ordered few dishes to share! Amazing food!! For the very first time we had jelly fish which was very nice and different! The best was bean curd mussels! Yummy food!!
A work client recommended this to me.... especially the salt and pepper eggplant.
I often find salt and pepper dished are just something in batter. This was great. The salt and pepper certainly cleaned the sinuses and hit the spot i so often look for in having spicy food.
The shredded fried beef was great. The large size pieces of beef worked well and the hint of tomato (or at least that is what I thought it was) was a good balancing touch to the taste.
This will become one of my go to places in Gouger Street in future visits to Adelaide.
Went here for a quick meal before a theatre trip.
Pleasant setting, friendly service, and a manageable menu. (Not one of those Asian places with three or four hundred items on the card) Serviceable wine list although my wife, who doesn't drink, would have preferred some more interesting choices than soft drink, bottled ice tea or fruit juice. Some coconut juice or a cold milk tea perhaps.
Food we had - a crispy beef and a broad bean and bean curd were very tasty and promptly served.
Definitely a step up from the cheap and cheerful end of Chinatown (BBQ City or Hong Fat for example) and this is reflected in the slightly higher prices. Not quite up there with the very best (Wah Hing for example) this will probably keep you happy though
Enjoyable.
If you're after a meal after midnight on a weeknight, a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown is usually one of the only few places you can go. East taste have a decent menu, but it's not as extensive as some other Chinese restaurants in Gouger. Service is decent and I would rate the food as average to above average standard for Chinese. Having said that, it's pretty good standard for 1am in the morning!
Three of us shared the smoked tea duck (amazing), the pork ribs (delicious), the salt and pepper eggplant (yum) and the chicken satay (ok). Good value, tasty food. Would visit again.
Go to Chinese on Gouger. Always a favourite for cheap and tasty dinner. Recommend the shallot pancakes, salt and pepper tofu/eggplant, Chinese broccoli with garlic/ginger, BBC and lemongrass tofu hotpot (all vegan). Mouth is watering just thinking about it.
I can't believe I haven't reviewed East Taste yet!! By far my favourite Chinatown restaurant. The salt& pepper eggplant is unbeatable and the newly-added lemongrass & Sichuan tofu hotpot is so delicious. The manager is extremely helpful and friendly. I can't fault this place!

East Taste is one of our favourite restaurants in Gouger St with a menu that is compelling. Vinegar dry pork ribs baby! And the smoked tea duck is legendary - something we cannot resist. The smoky flavours with tea infusion works so well in complementing, even cutting through the fatty duck. We also enjoy the shallot cakes here. The ambience at East Taste is also a winner as a modern Asian restaurant, with decent tables and chairs.
Is and always amazing. I've been coming here on and off for over 10 years, same owner still.
food is devine, I always have salt and pepper eggplant and a serve of dim sims. good prices and open friday lunch times.
new fit out 8 noticed so adds value to the already great food and service.
5 stars
Customer oriented service, great in other words. Love the honey chicken, consistent with its taste, crunch and flavor. Overall well worth it. T-Appeoved.
Really good. They were really busy this night and the staff did real well to keep up. Food was awesome. Def go back one day
Love this place!. Never fails to disappoint! The food is simply delish, service quick and attentive, great value & good atmosphere! We are regular late night attenders and they are Always welcoming and efficient! Our fave dishes- BBC, salt & pepper eggplant, crispy beef and sticky pork ribs nomnomnom!!!
Consistently good. A worthy rival to Ying Chow across the road, must eat dishes include the E-shand beef and the salt and pepper eggplant (arguably the best on Gouger Street). While priced a little higher than Ying Chow, serving sizes are generous, the wine list is decent and well priced, and service is consistent.
Delicious. The staff were very attentive, and the food came out at a decent time. The vinegar dry ribs were tastey and the bbc was surprisingly the best vegetable dish.
Very impressed. A great restaurant, excellent value with quality food and service. I went here recently with a small group of friends. I ordered a very tasty Seafood and Spinach soup and for main the Seafood Clay Pot. The food was served with a smile and I was impressed with the freshness of the seafood. Delicious! Approximately $20 for an entree and main, $5.50 beers and reasonable BYO make this one of the best spots for a group dinner
Great food and prompt service. Can be a bit noisy, but that just added to the ambience.
A loud experience.. I really enjoy the food and service at this restaurant.
Usually it's packed out, because it's great, and as a result incredibly loud.
Not a place for a quiet dinner, but definitely a great place for loud silly friends and good wine and great food.
We often come here to kick start the night, and a great location means that cocktail bars and lounges are not far away.
Love it, always get the echad chicken and eggplant clay pot with buckets of rice.
Tried the fried iced-cream last time, it tasted like marshmellows.
Would recommend.
...if you fancy a meal at 1am. A very tasty meal at very early hours of the morning. I am sure our judgement wasn’t impaired after a couple of glasses of vino that evening.
Service was very efficient, if not a bit you-must -order-NOW, like, RIGHT NOW!
All in all, what can one expect at that hour. While I would not venture there during normal (whatever those might be) dining hours, I sure would come back for an extra late weekend meal.
A Gouger Classic. The face lift that this place has undergone in the last 12 months has raised the prices by maybe a dollar a dish but it is still better money for the amount you get than Ying Chow across the street.
Best salt & pepper eggplant in Adelaide. Can't go past the shallot cakes, the spicy beef peking style, the black pepper beef and the BBC.
The service is just so lovely, always helpful and friendly! There a few things that make me happier than filling my belly here at 12am on a Saturday night before hopping in a taxi home.
Salt and pepper flounder... yum!
Eaten here several times and enjoyed it each time. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the food is always delivered quickly. Good prices and delicious food.
Unpretentious Asian Cafe. We eat at East Taste Cafe on Gouger Street on almost a weekly basis. It is a great little 'no-frills' Asian restaurant that consistently serves good food at a reasonable price. It is open late so a perfect choice for after the movies or theatre. The menu is extensive, the service is quick & friendly, and there is a choice of eating inside or out on the curb. It is licensed but BYO permitted (corkage charge applies).
Best. East taste is the best Asian restaurant I have ever eaten at. The service is also brilliant!
Authentic and scrumptious. The outstanding feature that immediately ranks East Taste higher than other restaurants on Gouger street is the adorable and consistently attentive staff who are employed there. Service is A++ of course if thats what you're super into. The Salt and Pepper eggplant is lovely and crispy and I DONT EVEN LIKE EGGPLANT but seriously try it it's great. Another excellent culinary treat would be the san choi bao, as an entree this dish really is delightful and tasty. Go here if Ying Chow across the road is too full to get a table (which granted is usually) It's a little more expensive but also a little more respectable and comfortable, something that we all need a little more of sometimes.
Consistently good food. My favourite would be the salt and pepper squid.
Love the salt and pepper eggplant, however I hate the way they fill up the plate. They are a bit stingy on the main ingredients like the meat and some vegetables. So when a plate seems bare, seems the kitchen just add onions. Always. Onions.
Simply Awesome. The salt and pepper eggplant and the BBC are the best dishes at East Taste!
Make sure you book a table otherwise you face a wait time.
The staff are friendly but they have a tendency to hover seeking to clear your table quickly to have you move along. If you want to sit back and enjoy a wine then this isn't the place for you.
Overall, the decor is nice, the food is cheap, the staff are friendly and it has a great atmosphere.
Love!. Honey eggplant, eshand chicken : I'm in heaven.
A reliable treasure. Bring on the shallot cakes, bbc, salt and pepper eggplant and those chinese greens, this place never disappoints in service or quality. well priced and a good place to catch up over some quick and delightful tastes and textures.
perhaps not the place for a romantic dinner or your parents with hearing aids, but some would say the noise and bustle adds to the atmosphere.
Another favourite chinese on Gouger Street. Usually one to head to another chinese restaurant on Gouger Street, a friend asked to meet us here.
The food was excellent, the standard Chinese menu done really well. Everything we had was delicious and i will definitely return.
Great food but the sizes seem be getting smaller & smaller. Still good cheap & cheery food! 3.5/5
Good. It's good, It is cheap, asian food, quick service. Only complaint is when it's packed with people inside, very difficult to converse with company. :)
Best.Chinese.in.Adelaide.
Delish!. I was recommended by a friend to go here as i love eating out in China Town while i visit from Victoria. I was very impressed by the quality and the varity in East Tastes dishes. The salt and pepper eggplant is my all time favourite, crispy on the outside and melt in the mouth eggplant on the inside. The golden enoki mushroom and greens is yummy and the shallot pancakes are very moreish! This is now on my must come back to list every visit!
Go BBC. Wasn't expecting much- but what a delight! Loved all the dishes we had (and there was quite a few!!) favourite was BBC, ribs, shallot pancakes and some prawn thing that I can't remember the name of! Best Chinese I have had on Gouger Street (BIG CALL)
EAST TASTE IS THE BEST CHINESE IN ADELAIDE. If you want really great tasting chinese with really professional service East Taste is where its at. Try the E-Shan Pork Chop, BBC, Crispy Pekin Beef, Silver thread loaf.
Good value. I went here while in Adelaide over Christmas, and was pretty impressed with the whole affair, bar the service. We tried a number of dishes between the party of three, and I walked away happy to recommend it and return. This is another good eat on Gouger, check it out.
East taste is rad n has an amazing vegan dish called BBC :) highly recommended
Best Asian restaurant that I have been to recently.... Interesting, tasty dishes.......I'll be back
Dope, have the vinegar ribs
A Gouger Street standout! A sure-fire gem for both the budget conscious and discerning foodie alike. Simple and authentic Chinese that's consistently excellent, coupled with attentive and accommodating wait staff.

📝: Last post from Adelaide trip. Absolutely love the Chinese food here, their Chinatown is just so big! Was recommended by my brother to try the late night food here.
❤️: Got the special “off the menu” Congee here with century egg, salted egg, pork, and you tiao. The perfect comfort late night food. My go-to was the Crispy Honey Chicken and the Fried Red Bean Pancake dessert. On my recommended list!!
Been going here for the last 4 years. Great place to go for a late night craving and a cold beer, they’re open until 2am and can be easily one of the best cheap and easy asian place you can eat. Order the crispy beef!! Sooo good
The food was tasty. Will definitely go back again. Loved the spring rolls and the dumplings.
Service was okay. We waited a bit and had to walk to their counter to ask to order before a server took out order. Would have been nice to be waited on, promptly.
But, that being said, the service was quick after we ordered.
It was a busy night in the city after a football match so we were happy that the friendly team here could accommodate us especially when so many other restaurants on Gouger are booking only atm.
The good is good and relatively inexpensive, my favourite dish was the fried rice albeit it coming out last. Overall, nice dining experience and good value
Always a great night out. Love the shallot cakes and the steamed silver thread loaf is the best!
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Delicious and reasonably priced food.
Absolutely lovely staff looking to help out in any way possible to ensure we had a great experience. We didn't have a great experience though... we had an AWESOME experience!
And the food was even better!!
