Review Mr Viet - Adelaide

Thien Vuong (fooderarri)
They serve pretty good and authentic Vietnamese drinks at the drinks cafe (a few stores away from the food restaurant). I liked the sugar cane drink, except if we mostly ice and didn't get much sugar cane from it. The jackfruit smoothie was also quite nice as I've not had it for a while. Both pretty cheap at $12 for the lot. Yours truly @fooderarri

Had a combination pho and a beef pho with coconut juice as a side. Big stand out from the start would have to be the broth, full of flavour and balanced well with fresh chilli. Noodles and meat worked well together with the broth. Only downside would be not having table water available at the venue when asked or else it would be 5 stars. In turn, worth a visit. Cheers

I’ve been eating brunch/lunch here nearly every day for several years now, so I figure it’s time to post a review! The fact that I’m such a frequent customer says volumes in itself - here’s a few of the reasons: the food is always super fresh, good range of options, and as close to authentic as you might hope to find in a CBD cafe (I think it aligns fairly well with cuisine from Vung Tau region in Vietnam). I think I’ve tried and enjoyed everything on offer across the menu (except the spicy items, but other customers seem to really enjoy those too). As a frequent customer, I’ve had a chance to observe how the team here behaves. The owners are incredibly personable, even when super busy at lunch times, and this attitude flows through to all the staff. They try *very* hard to learn their customers’ names, and I’m amazed how well they succeed with this, with many customers greeted by name as soon as they arrive.

The place had a very nice atmosphere, staff were friendly and the pricing was also reasonable. I had issues with my order which unfortunately ruined my experience. The orders which were correct however we well enjoyed by my friends.

Mr Viet's has a good range of vegan options. I've had their vegan noodle bowl, and their vegan pho. The noodle bowl tasted great, a good mix of flavors and extra sauces available on each table. However I did feel really gurgly in my tum after, and felt a bit sick for the rest of the day. I went back some months later and got the vegan Pho soup, which comes with fake beef, tofu and bean sprouts. It was alright, it didn't make me feel sick, but nor did it taste amazing. It was kind of bland, with minimal ingredients and minimal flavor. The atmosphere is fine, not super special but not at all unpleasant. Solid mid-range place, woopwoop.

Customer service is outstanding and you are served promptly. Pho is delicious! The broth is flavourful and doesn’t have too much oil, meat and rice noodles is cooked perfectly and are well combined to make a well rounded dish! As well as many other delicious dishes. Restaurant has a great atmosphere and I would highly recommend to anyone

Service is a great but the food can be inconsistent especially when purchasing combination phô (fer), sometimes you get a good amount of ingredients sometimes not much. However the plating (lemon wedges in the soup and NO garnishes on the side) and the use of cheap and nasty tissue instead of napkins is by far the worst in the food court considering how much these guys would make by cutting the cost of the simple things is not an excuse to go cheap! Lift your game Mr. Viet

From the outside, this little shop doesn’t look like anything special. But the food is absolutely sensational! The place can get quite busy and crowded during peak meal times, but not to worry, The staff and kitchen are well prepared and the food comes out with very minimal waiting time. The menu is concise with just enough options. Much better than a large overwhelming menu which no one really likes. All of the food here is well cooked, well prepared, well presented, and most of all delicious! The staff are all very friendly, very helpful in making space for you to sit, and helpful with menu choices. The space is kept very tidy and clean, considering the amount of customers they have through this place in such a short amount of time. In Conclusion: Great food, great service, lovely staff! Will be a regular customer!

This place is very likely the best Vietnamese food in Adelaide. Go here twice a week and it's always delicious. Great vibe and wonderful staff, everyone should go here.

Mate, we seriously Love the whole experience Mr Viet, their food has that truly Asian flavour that's bordering on impossible to get elsewhere. Noodles are not over done, the Pho flavour is intense. You get a real value for money serves. We are regular visitors to Asia & my wife is Thai, so our recommendation is for real. We travel for more than an hour to visit Mr Viet, & consider that time well spent to have their delicious Pho. Their service is always cheerful, friendly & polite. There's many upscale places that could take a leaf out of their book & thereby improve their experience. It's so easy to recommend Mr Viet. 1. Authentic Flavour 2. Great presentation 3. Value for Money 4. Polite Friendly Service 5. Quality Food 6. Good location.

I can't say how much I love this place. Everything off the menu is delicious. It's my regular in the city. Leigh, who works there is a beautiful welcoming face. I always look forward to going back. Thankyou Mr Viet! Don't change a thing :)

I love this Mr. Viet so much! hands down best vietnamese salad! Service is the best....always friendly staff!

Ordered a chicken bun bowl for take away, as recommended by a workmate. I soon found out that this place is popular with many of my colleagues for good reason. Hearty, delicious bowl of noodles, protein and vegetables well worth the price tag. The 'secret broth' takes it to another level. Staff are very pleasant.

I have only been here for the Bao a couple of times, so I cannot speak for the whole menu, but the buns have been freshly made and generously filled with tasty ingredients by friendly and charming people.

If the rest of the menu is of the same standard then I don't see how you can go wrong.

Worst pho beef noodle soup I've ever had hardly any beef or noodles literally paying for broth wouldn't but from them again go elsewhere ,......... ...................

Recently went for lunch to and Viet, we arrived right in the middle of the lunchtime rush. It wasn’t long to wait for a table. Food did take a while to come out but we were given some complimentary spring rolls while we waited for our food to arrive. The food was so delicious, the buns were so light and the flavours had enough spice and freshness with a generous amount of filling. Very personable host who recognized many regulars and called all diners by their name, her customer service was exceptional. The pho also looked delicious but maybe better to try on a cooler day. Seating indoor and outdoors, we would head back for sure.
JoJo
The vegan Pho is the only thing I eat here, and it never fails. Service is friendly and quick. Seating is limited, but people generally eat and go, so you're not waiting long. They can also give you Pho to go.
Alex
Super convenient location for a quick Pho. Friendly and helpful staff. Small so it can be hard to get a table at busy times but we didn’t have to wait long. Recommended.

Good option to have a quick serving of vietnamese food in this part of the city. The food is good-looking not great and one can get helpful servings of vietnamese food at competitive price in other restaurants of the city as well.
The coconut water is refreshing and the fried spring roll is one of the best things you can try here. Came here to lunch with a colleague and we both ordered the pho. I was as a bit disappointed as the broth was not hot. It was warm, but being pho, I was expecting a hot bowl of soup. The noodles were also quite hard, not silky and soft like the ones around. Didn’t have a lot of meat in there either but i wasn’t expecting a lot as the cost was at the lower end.
I do struggle to find a good pho place in the city centre near Rundle!
Rosaline Hao
The noodle soup is very tasty, the soup is very nice. But the cold salad is not good at all, the amount is less than the one we tried last year, not much in a big bowl. By the way, ice coffee is very special and nice!
Little Bit Of Everything
No doubt but it is one of the best PHO's I have had in Australia. Love their flavours, generous portions and amazing customer service. Every time I am in Adelaide for work I make sure I visit them for the PHO and Vietnamese iced coffee.

Positive - the food at Mr Viet is great - the pho has a good broth, lots of good stuff in there, you can add your own condiments to your individual preference. The negative - it is too close to my work and too easy to forgo the healthy salad I bought from home for a bowl of comforting brothy goodness.

I had a very unpleasant experience with Mr. Viet recently. I ordered a dry egg mi and found a snail under the lettuce. Once I've asked them to change, I unfortunately found another snail in the new bowl and I was absolutely disgusted. I've always loved your food but you really need to be careful with your food hygiene!!!

Pho is nice, although the soup does lack the spices and depth it should usually have. Vietnamese iced coffee was amazing, not to mention cheap as well, and I regularly come here during the summer just to get the iced coffee!
NanaKoot
Follow my ig @nanakoot

Hungry, tired upon arriving and still had to wait for the apartment to be ready, we stroll nearby area and got our eyes to this small but busy viet resto. We ordered a bowl of combination pho and couple buo banh with one roast belly pork filling and other bbq pork. Loved both the banh...those porks rock combine with fresh vegs and pickles. As for Pho....did not really like it cause the broth a bit on sweeter side conpare to what I used to eat and also when they said combination I will expect there would be beef tendon. Complementary vegs also not as many and as variety as the others...
Service was good, fast and friendly. Price was reasonable consider it is in the city centre.

The service as you order is quick, funny and efficient. The atmosphere is reasonably basic but works with the limited space. The food is amazing! One of the best Phò in town and such a great array of condiments.
Always Hungry
After walking past this place many, many times and seeing the tables always full of people, I'd thought I would finally give this place a try. I ordered the chicken bao and spicy beef soup. The bao buns came out of a packet, which was disappointing but I reserved my judgement until it was time to eat. Filling was fresh, tasty and best of all spicy. The sauces they use had a nice flavour. Not bad. The soup however lacked that depth of flavour i was hoping would hit me in the tastebuds. I couldn't taste the spices that generally are used in a dish like this so i came away from the experience a little disappointed. The chilli level was good and during this cold almost winter like weather a hot bowl of soup is definitely what the doctor ordered.

Great food (Vietnamese salad) which was fresh and bursting with flavour in a great setting. Really friendly staff, I will visit again. PS the $6 beer is a steal :)

10/10 would phô again. Service is amazing too. Best bûn bowls in Australia. Steamed buns are a little different but flavours really excelled Josh Tolmachoff

Super fast. Super good. I'm a seasoned phoficionado, have seen many many pho's in my blessed belly life. This place is up there. Don't miss out/

Mr Viet is a little gem tucked away in James plc off Rundle Mall, in a street block full of fast food and ever evolving food carts, this is a must visit if you want some Vietnamese comfort food! It is a very small place and has some inside table and bench dining with some nice outdoor settings for the warmer weather. On this day the GF ordered the crispy roast pork bu'n bowl which is a perfect ensemble of classic vietnamese flavours, sweet, spicy, bitter, salty, hot and cold. I ended up eating half of the bun bowl and the Egg Mi that I ordered. The Mi had a nice stock and the noodles were served perfectly, does it compare to the likes of an NNQ Pho, not quite, but in any case was delicious. I love that the family work here and it shows in their service and attention. I would come back here for the bu'n bowl and a beer any day.

The best Vietnamese in the CBD. Tiny little place. Always busy. Impressively good service considering it's always busy. Friendly and genuine. Freshly made bun bowls. Delicious. Go!

Never been to Vietnamese takeaway places so this was my first time. Loved it! Can't wait to go back! Food was good priced and serving sizes were amazing. Service was excellent. Very friendly and they seem to know their customers personally. Definitely recommend, it's a busy place for a good reason!

I'm kind of lost as to why people come here for pho. While the service is prompt, the pho is pretty bad. It may have what a photo has (beef, beef balls, etc.) but in no way does it taste like pho! It tastes like beef stock but without the strong rich flavours of the classic Vietnamese beef noodle soup. Also not to forget, the soup wasn't even hot and the noodles weren't the proper noodles other pho places use.

Just disappointed really.
Zoe L
Veggie Pho lacked flavour, broth tasted of veggie stock and was missing the beautiful pho flavours like cinnamon and clove. Was ok after adding in the chilli and hoi sin but I've had better. The service was very good however.
Feed Me, Adelaide
In my ongoing search for some of the city’s best pho, this rainy winters day took us to this little hole in the wall place in the hustle and bustle of James Place, Mr Viet. Since this somewhat accidental ‘quest’ started, this had been mentioned by more than a few people, so I was quite interested to see how it stacked up.
Josh Tolmachoff
Amazing best food great service alway friendly with a smile and remember your name. Vegetarian pho was so good I didnt need to eat dinner ukno. Love the self service chillies and coriander. So fresh. HeLo yourself and take some of you want. Should get Diet Coke though. Not everyone likes Zero. Great prices. Convent location and so friendly and fast. Will eat everyday unless I'm full.

A friend and I arrived half an hour before closing but we were still greeted warmly and helped to make our choices. The manageress was very friendly and helpful, and explained all about the ingredients. We shared a Bun Bowl (beef salad with noodles) and a combination soup (sorry, forgotten the correct name) and both were fresh and delicious. They were good value for money at around $10 each and there was so much food that I couldn't finish mine.

I regularly frequent Mr Viet for a quick lunch during the working week. Even if I come by at peak lunch hour (anywhere between 12 and 1) the staff are always friendly and there isn't a long wait for food.

I am a big fan of their pho and BBH and love that the herbs and condiments are all self serve. I am yet to try anything else on the menu (heh, creature of habit), but have always found their food to be tasty and well priced. Very rarely have I received pho with sinewy beef and the food is more often than not of a high standard. Love it!
Ali Beach
Fantastic Pho, the best I have had in Adelaide. Broth and beef were tasty, all the herbs and condiments you could want and friendly staff. Next time I'm in the city I'll be making a bee-line for this place pho sure!
Uberfrauline
I have been to this uber friendly establishment a few times now and it has been consistently good, for the prices they charge, every time. The pho is good, although I have had better, but that's okay, because it does reflect the price and is great value. I also had the spring rolls, which were tasty, crispy and fresh. The noodle salad bowl was to follow and I asked for a combination of the meats, which was great, but you do pay extra for extra meats and I felt I had not quite got my money's worth here unfortunately. I know, that as restaurant business owners, you need to save money where you can, but be careful where you are going to apply this? Included in the combination meat salad was pork belly, it was cut into the thinest strips imaginable and you really couldn't taste anything as the amount was quite minuscule. Pork belly must be a decent piece size, a tasty cube of deliciousness with crispy crackling! And nothing less, I would rather pay a bit more and get a decent hit of the belly. This is a small critic as the atmosphere here is so pumped and friendly, its hard not to love it. I believe these people are very passionate about their food and about their customers. I also love the mounds of fresh herbs, plenty of condiments, everything you need really! Will be back.
JS1992
Fantastic Pho, served with a smile. Cannot go wrong here. Love that we can choose our own condiments and how much of each we want. Never had anything but quality from here. 5/5
Lemongrass
The friendliest and most professional pho restaurant owner I have come across in my pho journey. A young and well spoken guy that is more than happy to talk about the different dishes, discuss ingredients and offer recommendations. My experience with some pho operators is either the friendly but very shy type or the Mr busy and disinterested. Not the case here. The guy at Mr Viet is a very welcome addition to the Adelaide pho scene. I had the beef pho. Yes, It was legit pho. Quality broth, tender and generous serve of beef and fresh house grown herbs in big help yourself bowls. Recommended.
Laura
Fresh & tasty Vietnamese food, really friendly staff. I had the spring roll noodle bowl and added extra chilli - the bowl was big and had loads of veges and herbs. The spring rolls were also full of veges - delicious!

Boring pho. Tried the beef pho here. It was so plain and unmemorable. The meat given was scarce. Won't return.

Refreshing. My wife and ate there for lunch. We were both impressed with the quality, price, service. What Vietnamese cuisine should be like. Forget little nnq in gouger st., which is overrated, head to James place, you won't be disappointed.

The gem of James Place. Found this place by accident and have to stop in for a feed every time I'm in Adelaide. The freshness and cleanliness of the shop got my attention from the walkway. I normally like a good steak type meal but seeing all the people licking there chops made me want to try it so I put in an order for a Bun Bowl with BBQ pork. On the side I had satay Rollmi Coldies with a Mr Viet Beer... All I can say is Wow! Not only did I lick my chops but I sculled the beer and then proceeded to scull the juice sauce in the bottom of the Bun Bowl. What a meal at a fantastic price, fresh delicious and filling. The staff are fantabulous, obviously I am impressed especially as I am a Melbournite.

Pho-Nomenon. One of the best in adelaide, the noodles are always perfect and the broth is spiced to .. well perfection!

Best Pho in town. I work in the city and been walking pass Mr Viet a few times and almost everytime, I see the staff there bringing out these delicious looking noodle bowls to customers, so ithought I give it a try.

i was greeted by one of the staff there. The young girl gave me the menu to view. After a few minutes she asked if i needed a hand with the dishes.

After going through each dish, i decided to go with the combination pho along with a Vietnamese ice coffee as one of there lunch deals.

when the bowls was brought out to me, the smell of the dish was absolutely amazing. The beef broth was devine, rich in flavour and so tasty.

the serving was generous with plenty of meat and noodles and a self serve counter to coriander, chilli and lemon.

i finished my pho and slurped every drop of broth available and still craved for more.

The ice coffee was strong and refreshing.....i absolutely loved it.

i was so satisfied with the service and the food was absolutely devine, definitely be back

Don't bother. Very poor serve of Bun Bowl. Chicken sparse and tough. Go to Zen in Renaissance Arcade to see how it is done properly

Loving the addition of Mr Viet to James place, the staff are so friendly and lovely, the pho is absolutely delicious and came out super quick. Also love the bar, very attractive option to chill on a stool and enjoy the delicious cuisine. Really cool place, my favourite city lunch spot at the moment!!

IM IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE! My friends and I came here for lunch today and we got the COMBO #1, which includes a Bao Wow for Entree, a small cup of either Pho-nomenom or Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and a Viet Iced Coffee for just $11!!!!! Crazy bargain! And the service was spot on! Friendly and welcoming staff. The atmosphere was nice. The design was an impressive mix of modern and traditional. Strongly recommend this place!

Pretty average pho. After hearing a bit about this new viet place, 3 friends and i went to try it out during our lunch on thursday. I had high expectations after hearing some solid reviews from friends. The menu was small and the descriptions seemed alright so i ordered the pho and iced coffee. The coffee is by far one of the best, strong andaromatic just like the ones you get in Vietnam (im viet and grew up there) but the pho was a disappointment. The broth was lacking flavour and i could taste mild fish sauce. Counted approx. 10 bean sprouts,6 pieces of meat and a handful of noodles. The dried pho noodles is such a 90's concept thatsoutdated where u get an abundance of fresh rice noodles at other pho institutions. Unless they improve i'll never recommend the pho here
Nancy Yang
i had a vietnamese beef salad yesterday which i pimped by buying half an avocado from the sushi place next door. I was faaaar too lazy and cold to walk all the way to the supermarket in the mall that was 100m away, my hunger at the time wouldn’t let me justify it! i also added more herbs, sweet chilli sauce and pickled carrots. When asking the server how they pickled those amazing carrots he just said “idunno the aunties at the back do it!” i love asian aunties

The popularity of Vietnamese street food knows no bounds in Adelaide, as yet another store has opened it’s doors along the busy James Place thoroughfare. Competing with Soonta and Miss Mai, Mr Viet slightly varies their offerings with dishes such as spicy beef noodle soup, fresh egg noodles, rice stick noodle soup, baos and a selection of small snacks.
