Enjoyed the North Shore Banquet tonight. An abundance of amazing food, everything was beautiful!!! Will definitely be back again and again. Great value for money and more food than we could handle x
Booked a table for 6 people for my birthday celebration. Very busy but we received excellent and attentive service. We had the $35 sharing platters. There was plenty of food and was all extremely tasty and something very different. Great night- thanks
Absolutely Sensational, everything we tried was just so fresh and tasty, the group have nailed it again. Something Awesome and New for the area. Everyone I know who has been so far cannot wait to go again. It seems the NEW favourite for all who have tried so far. Love GREAT food. Well done Kalyan and Team......
Absolutely delicious food and service was impeccable. Will most certainly be back! Especially love the selection of beer.
We dined at beach bums last night and we were very happy. We didn’t have a booking and they were very busy but they squeezed us in anyway and apologised to us for having to squeeze us in, we felt very welcome. The pork belly tacos were very very good and we had a variety of other things and they were also very nice. The service was also incredibly good. They were very very busy but we received everything promptly and with a smile. Thank you for a good night we will be back.
We had a great meal tonight and enjoyed every part of it. The service was great with staff coming to make sure we were happy and had drinks.
We’ll definitely be back!
Excellent food and service.
Congratulations!
Awesome food, super-friendly service, great set-up, love it! :)
Great food and fast service. Found the meal options really interesting and everything was delicious.
Beautiful staff, excellent food, and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend this restaurant! The banquet is an amazing option if you have 2 or more hungry people. Lots of food and everything was exceptional.
Great food great service huge change from a few years ago
the menu is definalty different but thats what makes it exciting cant wait to come back and try more
Laid back vibe, interesting menu, could have easily selected four or five different items that caught my eye. Dined with group of 4 adults two kids, everyone was very satisfied with their meals.
Had a salmon poke bowl. It was refreshing and a perfect meal to have at a 40C day! Salmon was fresh and tasty, generous portion as well as the sushi rice, yum! However, if you are not a fan of sour-y dish, I would suggest to leave the lemon juice off because there will be lots of pickled elements on the dish.
Their Food is the New Normal
Looking at the menu, I got quite a bit excited. I saw the Hawaiian, Japanese and Mexican influence all through the menu. It was sooo hard to choose and my husband didn't help either, "Choose whatever you like for both of us." Yes, yes, it's lovely however, I needed some guidance, I couldn't decide. The servers patiently waited until one suggested we don't have to order everything at once. What a gem!! So first I ordered the Hawaiian Dusted Squid Rings served with Hawaiian Teriyaki sauce.

i tried the duck burrito and the chips, someone else had the salmon aburi. all up the food was really nice. simple and tasty. the burrito had some nice crunchy pieces of duck in it.
Love the Japanese twist. Great find, food was delish. Fish Taco and Pork Belly entrees, salmon poke bowl and duck for mains. Couldn’t fault the food. I’ll be back to try others.
A must try is the poke bowls and fish taco. The fish taco is full of flavour I could of had 4 of them, yum! The poke bowl is incredibly healthy and delicious. I had the tuna sashimi bowl and it was raw tuna with a variety of salad and veg on rice. Great if you want something lean but tasty. The cuisine is like fusion Asian and islander. Delicious!! The salt and pepper squid was a generous serving and also tasty, my only complaint is that I wanted more rice to eat with it. The interior really has a beach vibe - the bus is a bar and it does feel like you have been transported to a beach side shack/ bar/ kiosk. Staff and really helpful with menu choices and we had a good experience when we dined. Try the Hawaiian beer!
We tried three different tacos. Fish, lobster and pork belly. All had fresh ingredients and different tastes. The lobster was very generous. The pork belly had more of the cracking and less of the belly. All pieces of pork seemed to be fried. Service was fast.
Before we begin the review proper, lets look at some definitions for the term “Beach Bum”. The Collins Dictionary has defined this as “a person that spends his or her time loafing about on beaches”. Fairly self-explanatory really, but I thought that to make sure we were all on the same wavelength, this needed further clarity.
Went twice. Many items on menu and some are a hit and miss. Overall an enjoyable experience; recommend going in a group of ppl with different tastes.
The pork belly starter and the tuna poke are the standout dishes. Good atmosphere and the staff are great. They change the menu up from time to time so there is variety for multiple visits. Can be a bit hot in the summer months out the back, so stick inside or have one of their cocktails!
Great place to get a tasty casual dinner with friends that has friendly service, delicious food and reasonable prices. I was really impressed with the salads and the mains. I swear the chips have some kind of tempura powder on them that makes them even crunchier and amazing. Definitely check this place out!
O'Connell Street has gone through some changes over the last few years. We've seen some great new restaurants open up - Cliche, ChuckWagon 175, Lucky Lupita's and Gin Long Canteen are just a few of the many great places on this strip. One we hadn't yet tried was Beach Bum, so when we were offered an opportunity to check it out (via a voucher that funded some of the food and drinks), we were excited to see what the 'Hawaiian Kiosk' could offer.
Japanese meets Hawaiian! I absolutely love the cool casual beach vibe that meets you once you walk in and the blue vans in the middle of restaurant are so cool (yes, two vans). My fave is their fish tacos because of the tempura battered fish. The only downside is that it's a bit pricey and the service is just ok , but in saying that I definitely wanna go back to try their burger and salmon poke.
The only bad thing about this place was the uncomfortable seating. Everything else was fabulous! The service was wonderful, the food delicious, huge servings, yummy cocktails. And everything came out quickly! We'll be going again.
Been there with different friends twice and no one ever disappointed
The foods were great and very generous size. Staffs were really friendly. And love the cute bar!
Food was ok, i had the slow cooked lamb. I think there is room for improvement atmosphere wise, the bar is cute but feels too big for the space resulting in small tables with uncomfortable furniture.
The prawn taco was super yummy. The coconut chicken salad was filling but sooo many salad leaves and not enough textures. The slow cooked lamb was yummy too
This restaurant is so great! Waitress made an effort to find us a table and we ended up sitting at the bar. It was fantastic. The waiters were attentive (although the lack of uniform made it confusing a couple of times trying to work out if people worked there or not?!).
The food was amaaazing! The fried chicken was delish, and was a huge portion for a starter. The pork belly, and wagyu burger were also bursting with awesome combinations of flavours.
Decor and atmosphere were pretty cool; the cups for cocktails were an especially funky touch. Overall, we loved it!
Unusual place! Very basic furniture and set up. Food had an American come Japanese twist as expected and was pretty good. Some better than others but interesting to share. Food well presented. Waiting staff good. Still slightly unsure of my rating but keen to give the Beach Bum another go!!
Tasty, fresh food with quick service. A good range of seafood dishes, the vege soba noodle dish is my favourite. Friendly staff and funky, relaxed decor. There's a load of seats out the back too, much bigger than I originally thought.
This place is fab! When you walk in, you know you are in for a bit of an experience, greeted by smiling staff behind a makeshift comby bus bar thingo. My 'fussy' friends & i went there for an impromptu catch up & wad so glad we did! Cocktails are fun, fresh & full of flavor well priced too! Food was wonderful, special call out to the teriyaki chicken & the fries, i mean yum! Out the back in the garden, you really do feel like you are in some Hawaiian kiosk on a balmy evening. My only complaint is you cannot book for any time, there are set times like 6pm -8pm & when i rang up & asked if 6.30 was ok as by the time you finish work, get ready etc? But i was politely told "no" this is adelaide for goodness sake!
Beach Bum Hawaiian Kiosk is a cool and casual restaurant serving up authentic Hawaiian cuisine with Japanese and tropical inspired flavours. The venue is understated and furnished with an abundance of light wood and fresh greenery. With lots of open air space and light coming through the place is reminiscent of a beach shack giving off a very relaxed and lazy atmosphere.
If you ever noticed a little truck parked inside a shop on O’Connell Street that looks like a beach hut in a tropical wonderland, you have found Beach Bum. Brought to you by the same group behind Cliché, Mexican Society of Chinatown, Lucky Lupitas, Gin Long Canteen and Tony Tomatoes, you can expect a certain standard here. Adelaide hasn’t had many encounters with Hawaiian food, if any at all. It is a cuisine I understood as tropical ingredients with Japanese influence but didn’t know what tastes to expect. The decor is pretty much natural wood furnishings and exposed brick with a splash of colour in the middle, ie. the bright blue vans. It’s all it needs really, casual and relaxed just like the beach.
I would gladly return to this place. I'm sure if you're Hawaiian you might take issue with this being representative of your culture, but for this idiot who knows no better, it was fresh, simple and tasty. Plus, I love any excuse to eat tropical fruit in a main (yes I like pineapple on pizza too). Sadly lacking from the menu however is any Spam. Possibly too challenging for diners in this price bracket.
Came into Beach Bum with absolutely zero expectations whatsoever as we didn't know what 'Hawaiian' cuisine was - an hour later and I can say that it is now my favourite cuisine!
Beach Bum beautifully serves up a fusion of Japanese dishes with Hawaiian influences. Every flavour and ingredient dance in your mouth as you take gleeful bite after gleeful bite.
We got the Teriyaki Chicken (hoe my god so good), Japanese Eggplant with Kale Chips (kale chips!!), Pork Belly (love the watermelon!), Coffee Beef Salad (who knew they go together?!) and the Salmon Poke (how can you go wrong?!). Every dish was absolutely delightful. They all had their own merits and had our tastebuds going crazy.
Table behind us hardly touched their food. Such fools. Go get your dollar fish and chips from a takeaway shop.
Beach Bum also has the best staff. The. best. staff. They are so friendly and accomodating and they are on their shizz all the time. White guy in the blue shirt - you are our hero. Thank you so much for the dessert (which was absolutely mindblowingly good)!
I will definitely return very soon. This is my new favourite joint in Adelaide, and it's so refreshing and heartwarming seeing new innovative places like this popping up.
Great decor and atmosphere with the hipster beach vibe very apparent. The menu offers a variety of dishes at varying costs. We ordered the beef ribs and teriyaki chicken which were both extremely tasty but unfortunately the size of the dishes were disappointing for the cost.. Burgers looked delish, served with a side of chips. The cocktails were pretty much a cup of crushed ice served in a paper cup, which is not what I expected for $14.
Great place, cool vibe and some interesting summer flavours being unleashed!
Luao Pork Belly as an entree was succulent and flavourful, with a touch of coriander and a tangy garnish salad to give it some oomph too!
The burger as a main was a well played, but safe choice! It featured some interesting fruity, spiced relish in the engine room and came with both regular and sweet potato chips on the side!
My only suggested improvement on this place would be an expanded beer menu; which to be fair probably is the sacrificial lamb when sporting a more dedicated cocktail and Sake menu.
All in all, I would definitely recommend over the summer months for dinner or lunch and can't wait to tangle with some of the more enthralling mains on offer!
The food was delicious and the staff were very helpful. I will definitely be going back for more and would gladly recommend to a friend......
Great vibe, attentive staff, fantastic fresh & tasty food, wonderful cocktails. I highly recommend Beach Bum for anyone who loves Hawaiian / Japanese food. We will definitely be going back soon.
Love the fun, chilled vibe of this restaurant and the fresh food it serves. Hawaiian Poke is a must try, healthy and bursting with flavour. Great dishes adapted for an affordable lunch drop-in and drinks served from a Kombi van!
It's Poke time at Beach Bum , wow the cocktails and food transport you to the shore's of Waikiki.
Great vibe and wish I had another of the pineapple cocktail .
From strength to strength. Our waiter was really helpful and with his suggestions ended up having one of the best meals I have had this year. Fish burger alone is worth a good review but with helpful stuff a cool layout I think I might become regular .
Delicious fresh & healthy food but so moorish. Interesting and sophisticated flavours & ingredients. Quick attentive service and a cool atmosphere for a lunch/dinner with friends. I have been to Hawaii over half a dozen times and the menu is spot on...maybe even a bit better than some of the most popular local grindz you will find on the islands! Great cocktails too, perfect coming into the warmer months.
Yum-o! Delish poke. Loved the duck and nori thing too. Def worth a visit or two - really interesting offering- more on the menu I wanted to try- will be back.
I have had lunch here a few times now. Highly recommend the Poke, delicious and healthy. Also love the coffee beef salad, tuna burger and ice cream sandwich.
Why does Beach Bum have such a low rating!? This place was amazing and I'd definitely recommend it to my friends and family.
To start off with, the service was excellent and the menu is extremely well priced. The staff were the right mix between casual-friendly and professional. Our meals were delicious and the portions were perfect. My fussy partner ordered the beef and pineapple burger which he enjoyed and couldn't find a fault with and I had the avocado and silken tofu poke bowl which was fresh and light, yet substantial. We also had a small serve of sweet potato fries between the both of us and I had the Japanese breakfast cocktail - so good! It wasn't too strong and I could probably just eat a bowl full of those black sesame seeds 😋
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed Beach Bum and we will be back again 😊
Lovely addition to O'Connell St, made me feel like I was on a holiday! Loved the salmon poke and salt & pepper tofu with watermelon. Could've demolished another matcha ice cream sandwich too
The poke was delicious - so tasty and the right balance of flavours. We shared a few dishes and they were all great. The cocktails looked good too but unfortunately by the time we saw them we had already ordered. Will definitely be back for poke and cocktails!!
If you look at anything referred to as “Hawaiian” on a food menu, it usually has pineapple in it. Other than that, not much is really known about Hawaiian food. The opening of the Beach Bum Hawaiian Kiosk in North Adelaide brought with it great interest because it is something totally different. As you walk into the kiosk, you’re greeted by two large food trucks which are permanent fixtures, one being a bar and the other, a takeaway counter. Surrounding the bar is a combination of marine artwork, exposed brick walls, and timber frames which also make up the furnishings. A common theme seems to run throughout the food menu; it’s Japanese inspired (Japanese people made up 43% of the Hawaiian population in 1920), it contains tropical fruit or it has seafood.
