Review Yiannis On Hindley - Adelaide

G
Great customer service, the two people working were super friendly and nice to us. The food smells great when you approach that lovely charcoal smell. Pretty pricey but a really big portion! And quality fresh vegetables lovely garlic sauce and the meat is juicy and they pack alot in the pita bread ! Definitely recommend this place to anyone ! Pretty much the best Yiros I've had and always worth it.

Well, this is no joke. The Yiros here will cost you an arm and a leg. Very pricy but, I must admit! You actually get a proper Yiros. Actual Meat cooked over charcoal! Even when you receive your Yiros, it's almost weights 1kg. Restaurant - 5/5 causal vibes with limited seating. Yiros - 4/5 the Yiros was amazing. Absolutely fantastic. Flavours, quantity and quality. Price however is to much!
Reni Erlina
Not familiar much about yiros but this was excellent. Very tasty and lots of meat for affordable price. Can feed more than 2 people for that much meat. đź‘Ť will come back when I visit Adelaide again.
Cybill Getgood
Yummy Lamb, Pork & Chicken Platter! Garlic sauce was sensational. I’d rank this placr as one of the top yiros places in Adelaide.
Paul Lovell
The best yiros, meat packs & killer ab's packs, actually i cant go past the ab's, so bloody gd, extra garlic sauce please
Dominic Croft
Good choice of food taste and I will love to come back here!!!

If you like charcoal grilled meat this is the place for you. It has a simple menu, friendly front staff and top grade health certificate. Be aware that orders can be delayed during peak hours.
Andrew Duncan
Is there any particular reason why the girl behind the counter served me with an attitude? If I’m paying almost $20 for a yiros then I would have expected to be shown some appreciation. To your credit, the lamb was pretty tasty though.
Donna Hutchinson
Was walking around the area taking photos when the charcoal smell enticed us in for tea. It was so worth it. Had never been there before although had eaten a few from the old Port one when it was open. These were great.. and it was nice to eat fresh crispy lettuce all the way through. Will be back.

Unfortunately I am a sucker for good charcoal grill. Was working in the area and somehow managed to stay away for 2 days...on the 3rd day however all I could smell was the delicious aroma of the grill, and thus succumbed to the lure of Yianni's. Juicy combination of meats, crisp salad and a generous smear of garlic sauce...not sure how it could have been better....

The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Great explanation of the food by the employees. highly recommend.

Easily the best yiros in Adelaide! Keep doing what you are doing guys. This place rocks!
Tracie Gurney
Best chicken & lamb yiros my husband and I have ever tasted...will never buy a yiros from a fish & chip shop again!!!
Sophie Hartley
Super quick and very friendly service!! An abundance of food which was so delicious!
Elefterios Tsiaoussidis
So good I dream of this lamb lol. True story. A must after every Adelaide United game

I have long been told that these were the best Yiros around and I can't believe it took me this long to find out for myself! Absolutely incredible charcoal fire cooked lamb. Perfect garlic sauce and packed full of ingredients.
John Ambler
The best yiros ever they are the Ferrari of the yiros
Charalambos Tavlaridis

Saw this place on the way to hotel. Came yesterday evening to try, yiros was great. Came back this morning. Yiros is the best in Australia, and this coming from a victorian!
Stuart Farquhar
Been demolishing yiros for over 30 years. But never have I had yiros like this. 7.15 a.m. and I'm hanging for one now! I have never been anywhere else for a yiros for 6 years. Guess where I'm going for lunch today.

Nice staff and yummy food ! Love it! The filling was full and neatly folded with juicy meat and crunchy veggies.. <br/>definitely will come back while i’m craving gyros..
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
The smell was amazing as I walked into my hotel. The girl at the counter was polite and full of smiles...<br/><br/>I ordered a meat place half size of the 3 meats. It was mainly lame though not much of anything els it was fatty quiet tender and lost of flavour just wish I got to try them other two flavours :-(<br/><br/>

Bloody incredible yiros. Horizontal lamb, chicken or pork. Beautifully cooked over charcoal and carved fresh. Crispy, juicy and delicious. Friendly service too!

No frills quality yiros. One of the better yiros establishments in Adelaide selling great fresh, quick charcoal yiros. The lamb is pretty much always tender and succulent and even when it isn't top notch it is still very nice. The use of a charcoal grill also really elevates the flavour of the meats and is much better than the regular electric rotisserie machines. The only problem sometimes with the lamb yiros in particular is it ocassionally too salty but the lettuce and garlic sauce does a good job of balancing out the saltiness. Always very quick, good staff and the owner is a great bloke. The pork yiros is a little different and is also very nice, the coffee frappe is also really great, using strong greek coffee mixed with milk, ice and sugar.<br/>If you want quick, great quality charcoal lamb yiros, this is the place to go.

The smell of meat cooking on charcoal draws you in and then the yiros delivers. There is so much meat and salad that the pita can barely wrap around it and it is all sooo tasty.
XpFlavour.
The best yiros in Adelaide and most definitely my favourite. From the fat, tender and taste of the meat, to the quality and quantity, Yianni's never ceases to fill my yiros cravings and thankfully, my stomach.<br/>

Crook for 2 days after having a bad combo yiros<br/>Should have noticed <br/>Smelled funky<br/>Has put me off yiros for a while<br/>Service is cold as ice here<br/>No smiles no eftpos just a cash grab

I've been here a few times with my parents and for my uncle this is an institution - he visits every time he's back in Adelaide! There are fewer great yiros shops around Adelaide which is a shame. Yianni's is fantastic. Obviously you should get the lamb if you go! You won't regret it.

Good Souvlaki, not amazing but very satisfying!<br/><br/>Very basic menu.<br/><br/>Needs a paint job and some cleaning but food was good.<br/><br/>Would I go back?<br/><br/>Yes, but in no desperate hurry.<br/><br/>•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Eat Like Ushi
I was looking for something close to my hotel (Adelaide Rockford) to eat during a late Wednesday afternoon. Interestingly enough Zomato didn't have many options that were open, looked relatively fast and very decently rated. Funnily enough a souvlaki store down west past the university and away from all the other food places seemed to shine out.

Easily one of the best Yiros I've had. My lamb yiros, was everything I imagined it to be. Heavy (this yiros feels like it weighs as much as a brick), the right amount of garlic sauce (not too much, not too little), and beautiful, fresh lettuce, tomato and onion helped elevate my yiros to new culinary heights. The lamb cooked over charcoal is simply beautiful. There's not much more I can say without using the same words, over and over again to describe how good this yiros is.<br/><br/>I once felt that Adelaide is devoid of any good greek food places that also provide good value for money. That is until I discovered Yiannis on Hindley.<br/><br/>When I walked into this place, I was welcomed by the owner, and he was very friendly, saying hello in greek (Yasu for those who don't know Greek), and quickly attend to your order. The girl helping him was taking orders very nicely, and the two make a good team. It's very nice to see that customer after customer, it was the same warm and friendly greeting (and if I heard correctly the owner had been working long hours). The owner seemed to really care about his shop, as they have earned a 5 star food safety rating, and any mess is cleaned up immediately. Overall a very pleasant atmosphere. <br/><br/>You need to go here at least once! I'll be definitely heading here again to try a chicken yiros or the combo.<br/><br/>NEW VISIT #1: BEST CHICKEN YIROS<br/><br/>Still the best yiros. I had the chicken yiros, and I was in for a surprise. It's just as amazing and delicious as the lamb. Chicken is very tender, and had this amazing, mouthwatering charcoal smokeyness to it as well. It is now my go to Yiros place. Thank you Yianni's on Hindley for amazing yiros!!!<br/><br/>VISIT #2: BEST PORK Yiros<br/><br/>Just when I thought this place can't surprise me more. I had the intention of buying a combination yiros, but when I looked at the menu they had the option for Pork, I just had to try it. And my curiosity was rewarded, because I had  another amazing yiros. The pork was tender, succulent, juicy, everything associated with good. If this place only did pork yiros, I would go here just for it. I don't think I need to mention the lettuce, tomato, onion and garlic sauce were top notch.<br/><br/>VISIT #3: ADDICTION.<br/><br/>It's a true sign that this place has made me addicted to yiros. Not any yiros, but Yianni On Hindley's Yiros. It has been two days from the time of writing this since my last one. And I was craving for another one. That's how good this place is. I can't go two days without having another yiros from here. It's fair to say at this point I've probably met most of the staff, and I can say they are efficient and friendly. I am absolutely in love with this place. I have only the combination yiros to try, and seriously I can't wait until I can. You must give this place a try. The only thing you would have to be careful of is that you'll want to come back for more, and more often than your logical side or your wallet would like. <br/><br/> This isn't the only best place in Adelaide for yiros, but I can confidently say this is the best place in Australia.

Freaking delicious! The meat is soooo tasty being that it is cooked over an authentic charcoal spit. Smoke circulates through the restaurant which smells delicious but if you decide to dine inside you will smell like a spit, lol. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it!

I'm disappointed that searching for yiros on here doesn't return Yianni's as the top result! It really is the best yiros in Adelaide. Simple, fast, cheap and tasty. Food without the pretention

Definitely the best yiros I've had but rang up on Sunday 6pm and the lady said they were shut. I checked the opening hours and it says its open til midnight on Sunday. But I only rang up as I've been caught going there on a Sunday a few times before and they were closed. Should at least be open til 8pm on Sunday :(

I am from MELBOURNE and I often eat at stalactites in Londsdale St, i have been to yiannis Yiros several times and I have to say that Yiros is the best Yiros, it destroys stalactites, the charcoal taste and the calving with the knife is traditional greek. This is why I refuse to eat any other Yiros except for yiannis yiros.
JL33
The best souvlaki in Australia. Ive been there twice on my trips to Adelaide and have never been disappointed. Few if any in Australia offer pork, lamb and chicken off a charcoal spit.

Unquestionably the best Yiros in Adelaide, possibly Australia.. In Adelaide it is possible to buy a yiros at at least 150 places. If you lined up every one of those 150 yiros, this one would be at the top every time. There is no substitute for roasting the meat over coal. Perfection in a Pita...<br/>Oh, don't complain if it falls apart in your hands. This yiros is PACKED to maximum capacity. If you are not a seasoned yiros consumer who understands the art or yiros comsumption, the correct unwrapping technique, the optimal angle of attack, the balanced holding position, and the ability to open wide, it's going to be a bit of a train wreck, but rest assured that once you gather up all of your dropped meaty goodness and consume it, you will be full. A word of advice here - that big bit that fell out that looks just a little burnt on one side - save it for last. With more practice (and I assure you that you will want more practice) you will soon flawlessly devour one of these beauties and walk away smiling, as I do every time.<br/><br/>Personally, I get the combo (Pork, Lamb, Chicken) with Garlic sauce and a dash of hot chilli sauce. Don't wuss out on the garlic sauce if you have to go back to work, go buy some gum, you wont regret it.

Terrible service worst yiros. The service was discusting i was trying to decide what i wanted and she was was like hinting out to hurry up and decide the older lady was looking at me rolling her eyes at me slaps the change in my hand then slaps in all together j just wanted to walk out i think if you dont like your job dont work! Will never be going back there!

Dissapointing. Got a yiros that was absolutely disgusting. The thing was swimming in garlic sauce such that was all you could taste. Been going there for 10 years but the food has been below average lately. Not worth the money anymore!

Best yiros I've ever had

Very Average. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE <br/>Very average food for a premium price!! People need to get out and try some other Yiros in Adelaide. This Yiros is not very flavorsome and dry.I have tried it twice now and will not be going back unless a "new management" sign is above the door.<br/>Service was poor and no or very little garlic sauce with no onion and a lot of gristle in the meat makes this one of the worst Yiros i have ever had.

Sensational. One of the best souvlakis ever. walking down Hindley you get the waft of charcoal smell and it leads you straight to Yiannis! definitely will be getting one again when in town next.

Service left bitter taste in my mouth. The taste is still as good as I remember it 5 years ago. However, I can't say the same about the service. We didn't appreciate having the menu shouted at us the second we walked in the door. The girls were loud and rude. Instead of passing me my change, she just put it on the counter without even a thank you or eye contact. I remember the service being amazing the last time I was here but now it just feels like I'm at an Asian market.

:-(. Ordered Lamb Yiros with Lettuce, Onion, cheese and garlic sauce - ended up with no onion, no garlic sauce and tomato which I didn't even ask for. NO GARLIC SAUCE means not a real Yiros. Very Disappointing !!!!!
Dave Bracken
Best yiros hands down.
Sue
So. Much. Meat. But that's what you want in a yiro. Very tasty
Shen
Best yiros we've ever had.definately worth the trip if you're in adelaide.dont judge book (or the street) by its cover.efficent & capable service.

The best yiros in Australia if not the world. Try the pork yiros, lemon juice, salad, with garlic sauce...a simple master piece that will leave you satisfied!
Matt
There's nothing to match a real charcoal flame yiros. A venerable Adelaide institution and still excellent value.
Tiffany Wilson
This was the worst place I have been to in a long time, the service was awful and the young lady was extremely rude, the yiros was made so poorly and it was messy to eat I didn't finish mine and neither did my friends. Defiantly wouldn't come here ever again or recommend anyone to.
Natalie
Closed at 7pm on a Sunday...?

We're from Melbourne, lots of Greek food there, and this stacks up with the best! You rock Yianna!
Charles Manning
We were hanging for a traditional yiros for a quick lunch as a family. This really hit the spot. Fast, flavoursome, fantastic. Nice to hear Greek music too to add to authentic feel.

Yiannis On Hindley make some of the best yiros in Adelaide. The décor is fairly basic and there aren’t too many seats available, but most of their customers are mostly take away anyway.

After something quick, tasty and cheap?! Head down to Yianni's on Hindley for your yiros fix, they're open til the wee hours of the morning, perfect for those who are leaving the clubs and in need of something to soak up the alcohol! Combo yiros the the lot: lamb, chicken, pork, lemon juice, garlic sauce, lettuce, tomato and onion; $11.00 The yiros filling is generous with the assortments of meat super tender and juicy. The bread itself is soft and fluffy whilst the outside is slightly toasted; and the lemon juice and garlic sauce adds that extra kick of flavour whilst still being super light and nowhere as heavy as I thought it would be. One of the best yiros' I've had! ~ (Psst, thanks to a blog reader for the suggestion!)
