Review Skyline Restaurant - Adelaide

Leok L
The skyline restaurant is located inside the Rydges South Park Adelaide Hotel on level 6. Inside the Adelaide city, not hard to find parking around. Beautiful view while dining. Depending on the season, Sunset can be seen there. If the timing is right, you can enjoy the day and night view while having the same dinner.

We had dinner with my friends. The food was perfectly done, and the staff were friendly. Zoe was very professional and courteous. I highly recommend this place. Great view

Visited for the fringe festival Mumbo Italiano show, had a fantastic 3 course meal full of flavour and generous portions. They always impress me here, I've had numerous functions here and it's always great. Beautiful views of city lights at night and hills view during day. Truly a nice experience and lovely staff.

They have a rather limited menu - But I understand why - because what they do, they do amazing, that chef is likely the best steak chef in Adelaide if not the country. Prices are very fair for Adelaide (not country prices - but hey we are in the CBD) - If you can book ahead and ask for a window table - except for windy point you will not get a better view in Adelaide. They have a very relaxed atmosphere and very friendly staff. My recommendation would be the sirloin steak (not the t-bone) and the cheesecake for dessert. Yum. You can expect to pay around $80-$150 AUD for a couple to have a great dinner. I do not drink so I can not comment on the prices of win. If you are a PGR member you can get up to 50% of your meal and win here also(I think the basic is like 20% or something)

I recently attended a work function at Skyline and was looking forward to the evening. Fortunately I was there with colleagues, otherwise it would have been a disappointing night. The menu was set which was expected considering the time of year. The entrees were either pork belly or smoked salmon. Although the portion sizes were small, my wife was confused with what the salmon was served with as it didn't go together. No problem, it's only the entrée, I'm sure mains will recover. Wrong. Main was either roast turkey or steak. I had the steak which was the size of my keyboard mouse and cooked dry all the way through. The small garnish of baby carrots were undercooked. The turkey however was cooked extremely well, the only issue here, is that there was only one slice on the plate. I can't comment on the dessert as I was over it by then. The price of $115 per head included a drinks package, but even this came with absolute confusion. If I went to the bar, I only had a choice of 2 beers, 1 of which they were out for the first 90 minutes, but when I joined colleagues I could see they had a larger choice, s went back to the bar and placed an order, only to be charged $30 for 3 bottles of beer!!!! When I objected this to the barman, he stated these were not a part of the package and refused to listen. I then learnt it came down to who you placed the order with. The waiting staff were nice and helpful and the band they had were really good also. Let's just say you shouldn't need to go to Hungry Jacks on West Terrace. after a dinner function, but yet that is where we ended our night.

My partner and I Absolutely loved it!! The 450g steak was cooked to perfection of what we asked. Once we had a Couple bites a waiter came up and asked how the steak was cooked for us then we were left alone (big plus) Great great service and food. We can’t wait I go back!

Went with a group of friends, 10 in total. Planned on all having the $59 3 course menu but was told its not available Sat nights. Everyone had entree's, mains and desserts. Quite nice but servings on the small side considering the cost. Very disappointed & let down with desserts!! Definitely need to reevaluate dessert menu. Wines expensive and service lacking severely. Not once did we get asked how everything was and if anyone wanted any more drinks or coffee's with dessert. Views and atmosphere nice however expect to order 3 if not 4 courses to go home satisfied. Overall we had a nice night as a group of friends dining out but would likely not return unfortunately.

I had the duck breast and would recommend it to all

Best Steak I've had in a long time. Starters were amazing too. Great food and great views. Not cheap but worth it.

The meal was first class. The view was enchanting. The staff pleasant and efficient. A truly enjoyable evening.

The only good part about our Xmas in July was the band and the company .The meal was awful if you are going to do Xmas in July, make it that everyone has the same and cater for vegetarians. Xmas is turkey, roast potatoes, roast veggies and Xmas pudding and tea and coffee I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone very disappointed and I hope the chef reads this and the Owner .

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. From the very start I ordered a beer from the menu only to be told there were none available. So I ordered another beer from the menu after being told they actually did have that beer but they were downstairs and warm. Then got informed the second beer I ordered was not available - then only to be given the first beer I actually asked for and told they were sorry but they actually DID have them. Wow.<br/>We informed them that two of the table of four were after vegan options (told this on the phone). No vegan options were offered and the waiter took 30 mins to take our order. Not once were we asked if we were ready to order food or drinks. Every time we had to call out for someone. Never once in 3 hours was our water topped up or even asked for another drink. When the food finally was about to come out we were informed that instead of one of the meals being order as chicken it was ordered as duck through the computer instead and the waitress tried to persuade my Dad to eat the duck instead. We said we wanted the chicken as ordered and was told it would be another 10 minutes in which time all the other food came out. <br/>My wife was given my pasta meal and told it was hers so she started eating it, then the waitress came back after 5 mins and said it was actually my meal. So after my wife ate a third of my meal she received her own. <br/>After we had all finished our meals my Dad finally received his Chicken dish.<br/>In fairness we were offered a complimentary bottle of wine (only after making it clear we weren't happy).<br/>After all this we received the bill which was completely wrong and we were charged for the duck and told it was just a way to charge for the vegan meals as they weren't in the computer. This means we were charged $36 for some shredded zucchini and mushrooms. <br/>I could go on for hours but this is the gist of it.<br/><br/>The worst dining experience in every aspect I could imagine.<br/><br/>Stay away!!!!
Tiffany Vander Veen
We came with 12 people. <br/>Whilst the food was okay, I do think it was overpriced. <br/>We waited an extremely long time which made the quality of the food seem poor.

This was my second time here and this is definitely a hidden gem in Adelaide. The view is amazing! We went on a Wednesday and there was live acoustic music playing in the restaurant. Food is to die for. Highly recommend!
Lucy
Dined on a Wednesday night and was great. They have specials during the week that include a glass of wine! Make sure you book as it was busy. They have lots of local produce and wines which is great to see in South Australia. Service was really good and bar area and restaurant have great views. Do try the Pork Belly and the Duck if you go... So good !

Wow - what an experience! I made the considered decision to reserve a table at the Skyline Restaurant and Lounge Bar last week and could not be happier with my decision! Scrumptious food, exquisite atmosphere and great people - what more could I have asked for?
Chantelle Albanese
Went to this restaurant for my birthday with 9 people, although service was fantastic, everything else was an extreme let down. The entrees were very average, the chocolate crackling on the pork was enough to break your teeth, the duck parfait came out later than everything else and tasted like fish and the pie was extremely small even for an entrée size. The mains were the biggest let down of all, we all ordered, apart from one, the chilli prawn and cream tagliatelle as it sounded the best on the menu and we were all eagerly waiting for this dish. The dish itself had absolutely no flavour and a fishy taste, the pasta wasn't cooked properly a lot of it was raw and clumpy and the only way we could actually stomach it was to order extra bowls of cheese which we also got charged $2 each, PLUS on top of all that the prawns hadn't been cleaned properly and pieces of shell were still on everyones prawns and got stuck in one of the guests throats! Also the vegetables on the other mains had a fishy taste to them like the pan had not been cleaned properly. We informed the staff of all this and although they kindly said they would tell the chef, nothing else was done. For such a high class place in such a truly beautiful setting I am incredibly disappointed and will never go back.

Skyline Restaurant and Lounge Bar is located on the top of the Rydges South Park Adelaide Hotel. Situated on the corner of South Terrace and West Terrace, the restaurant and bar boasts panoramic views of the parklands and Adelaide Hills. As you get off the lift on the top floor, the main bar is straight ahead with the restaurant section to the right. The cuisine on offer is modern Australian with a good selection of dishes that use local and native ingredients. They also had some specials on offer which were two courses for $45 and three courses for $55, which we took advantage of.

We had been here previously so was rather surprised to find that now the restaurant although in the same place it is now reduced in size and the larger area partitioned off, as I guess they use the larger section for functions etc. We did check out the larger section when we were leaving and although there was a group in there they were only using minimal room leaving lots of spare space.  It would have been better if perhaps as tonight there were lots in for Dinner that they could have swapped venues giving Diners the bigger space. The small space for the restaurant area felt rather cramped as there were lots of tables in a small space with only about 3 tables able be placed near the windows for views.  Luckily we were seated at a table near the windows but larger groups were in booth tables which did not seem comfortable or what you would have expected from the name of this Restaurant.  It also made it difficult to manoeuvre between tables both for Diners and Wait Staff.  Anyhow enough said.  We came on a voucher which entitled us to an Entrée, Main and a Glass of Wine Each from the specific menu for Voucher Patrons, however, the choices were sufficient .  My partner had the Chicken Pie and the Steak and I had the Pork Belly and Chicken. Both meals came with a few vegetables included and if we had wanted more sides each of the side dishes were at an extra cost as was the bread, etc.  We chose not to have any extra sides or bread.  We always share as to taste a variety and the Chicken Pie was really small (not much bigger than a Party Pie) so we only had a small portion each but was delicious and moreish.  The Pork Belly was soooo yummy but I may be biased as Pork is my favourite food. The Steak was cooked as per our order and was very nice however with only a few chips and 2 strands of Asparagus it left us wanting more but the Chicken Breast came with lentils, and a variety of veg so this was more than enough to fill us up. There was a choice of Red or White Wine or Sparkling and we shared a White and Sparkling but these were much to dry for my taste.  Overall the meals were nice, staff were very friendly and helpful, and the view out the window of the atrocious weather with bucketing rain and people below scurrying home on a Friday Night after work was entertaining.  So although the meals were good I probably would not return to this venue due to the cramped seating area more is the pity.

Wow! We went here after we heard of the recent renovations and a celebrity chef. The view was amazing and they had a jazz band playing in the background. I had the duck and it was sensational. We eat out a lot and this is one of the best in Adelaide.

We went on a scoopon and had a really nice meal with dessert. The service was nice and the staff friendly. I found the place itself nice but a tad outdated, and a bit dark. The food was really tasty, and our steak cooked very well. Our desserts were delicious. We would come back, but probably only on voucher as normaal prices are on the high side.

Had my work Xmas function and was a great night food was very well done and service from table staff AAA+ already looking at coming back with my wife for night out for dinner
Rachelle
Service outstanding, food was great!! We had the 2 course menu Pork Belly for entree and Angus Rump for main, came with a wine or beer, great value!🍷💙💛

Went to this restaurant without researching, just blindly followed the missus's instinct and it turned out disappointing. Ordered the 40 dollars scotch fillet for medium rare and it turned out medium or slightly more well done than that. Only got the piece of steak and some asparagus with it, portion is too little. The missus got the salmon instead. She seems to be ok with thst dish. <br/>Dessert was a funny experience as the chef lost the torch for creme burlee. The waiter was polite and apologised. We ended up having an uncaramelized cremeburlee. <br/>Overall experience, not the best. Food was disappointing, but service was good considering that we r the only 2 tables they need to serve on a Saturday night. Wouldn't come back again.
The Feed Report
This place sits atop Rydges, at the intersection of West and South Terraces. The view over the parklands is nice, but I've been seated against the far wall, away from the windows.

Diners from Adelaide. Some friends invited us to join them with a Living Social Voucher to dine at Skyline Restaurant. We went there for dinner last night, but during the afternoon I thought I would look online to check the menu to avoid having to take too long once we got there. I did not find the menu, but came across countless reviews, most of which gave very negative reports of their experiences there. We decided not to tell our friends before we went about this, and just hoped for the best.<br/>Well, we did not find fault with anything at all - the waiters were all courteous and attentive during the evening, and the food we ordered did not take too long to arrive - both courses. Between us we ordered 2 steaks, 1 fish, and 1 chicken meals, together with side dishes, and we all commented a number of times on how well presented and delicious our meals were. <br/>After we had finished the meal we told our friends about having seen so many negative reviews, and they were quite amazed. We all enjoyed being in the restaurant itself, with plenty of space between tables and chairs, the meals, and of course THAT VIEW! All in all a most pleasant evening.

Rosa scotch fillet 400g. Everytime we drove pass, we wondering what the food taste like in the restaurant on the top. The waiting staff was polite, but the food was overpriced for the quality I received on my plate. I am so dissapointed with this dining experience. I ordered the scotch fillet 400g and my partner ordered steak as well. In here, steaks average $35-$45, I expected we could get some sides dish. What we got was just one piece of meat no small sides or anything. Two of us ordered steaks and drink, we paid more than hundred dollars. It was too expensive for this meal. Do not come here.!

Great food... Watch out for the bread roll charge though. That little bread roll they give you free everywhere... $1.00 here. I thought that was a bit rich to see on the good bill at the end..... And the chocolate gateau ... It's very rich... Insist on a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream to break that chocolate taste up. Great meals, reasonable service. I'd go back. I just won't take a bread roll when it's offered. The little things only take up space that could be used for more if the good food.

Absolutely great food & good customer service!. I bought a LivingSocial voucher for a dinner for two for $59 and I used it on a Sunday night with my husband. Lucky it wasn't busy therefore I guess this was why we were served in a reasonable timeframe. Our table was allocated next to the window so we could have a night view of Adelaide South along with our dinner.<br/>My husband had a squid for entree and a MSA grain fed rump for main. Squid itself was tasty but my husband didn't like too much olive oil on it; the rump was tendered enough and he loved the sauce so much!<br/>I had prawns for entree and a salmon fillet for main. Both dishes are unforgettable! The sauce on both the prawns and salmon were really yum!<br/>Customer service was great, we were looked after very well. Very worthy!

Diana. Giving this the thumbs up for the view & a good spot to sit & relax with a drink

Surprise 21st Dinner = AWFUL!!. This week I turned 21,<br/><br/>My parents flew in and surprised me from Melbourne, It was amazing after not seeing them since christmas, they were staying at the Rydges as my father usally does with his business in fact they spend large amounts of money each year to stay in the Rydges hotels. <br/><br/>After seeing the Skyline's ad for seafood my dad called and made a reservation and advised the waitress of our meal requests.<br/><br/>Once we arrived, the staff were unable to find our reservation, upon ordering they told us we had to pre-order the seafood platter (which we had done) and that it would be a minimum 1 hour wait.<br/><br/>Lets just say after eventually getting our seafood platter which isnt cheap... it was awful I could have brought the ingrediants at coles and defrosted them myself.<br/><br/>The staff were rude and drinks were not flowing.<br/><br/>In all if my parents hadn't taken me there my surprise birthday, I would have left. The staff were rude and the sevice was appauling.<br/><br/><br/>I wont eat there again. I'm pretty sure my father will re-think booking there again. <br/><br/>Oh and to make this even more exciting I am a travel agent and I will definately not advise my clients to stay or eat at this establishment.<br/><br/>As they say its not where you go its who your with and thats what made my night. The love of my family. Not the place we unfortunately chose to eat.
Bigfish
Poor service they took my drinks order and I waited 25mins for a glass of wine. There were only 5 couples in the place so I'm not sure what the hold up was. Food was ok I had the chicken it was a little over cooked dry and overpriced! Not an experience worth repeating!
Sue
Do Not Waste Your Money. Very very bad service, food average, price very Large, do not waste your time and money at this place, Waiter had NO idea about customer service, clearly had not been trained at all, the bottle of wine we ordered was just placed in the middle of the table unopened! and just as we finished our meal he came and told us that the eftpos facility was not available and we would need to pay cash! who uses cash these days, the whole experience was just unaccaptable
Ange0211
I'malways try to pick out the best parts of any dining experience, but this is by far the worst I've had. <br/>The waiting staff are rude, the food is terribly overpriced for the quality you receive on your plate and the entire atmosphere is dull. I am so dissapointed with this dining experience. The only plus.. The view and thats no real bragging point. <br/>Steaks average $35-$45 and that's all you get... Just one piece of meat no small sides or anything. I said it earlier but I'll say it again.. Don't waste your time coming here.

The full dining experience. What a night out, good food, great wine, fireworks, being serenaded by a fellow diner and the most beautiful lady to share the experience with. Nights don’t come much better than this one.<br/><br/>Our night started with a quiet drink near the bar while overlooking the city lights, while I went for a simple bourbon and coke my fellow diner chose the Chandon brut… however, I suspect that our waitress has not worked in the industry long and she opened a fresh bottle of Möet et Chandon, something which was to prove a boon to us later in the night as well as providing us with a lovely way to start the night. The views over the city were great and I’d recommend anyone start their night in a similar fashion... but you can’t have dinner companion, she’s all mine.<br/><br/>I had requested a table for two near the window and had briefly mentioned the reason for our visit, I was very pleased to find they had accommodated us magnificently, with the best seat in the house to watch the coming festivities from. We were seated and within minutes our drink and food orders had been taken. However there was to be a slight issue with our drink order, we had decided to order a bottle of the Chandon Brut and as you may remember the waitress had previously managed to give us Möet instead. We were now informed that they had run out of Chandon would we like the remainder of the bottle of Möet for the price of the Chandon... Well what would you say? <br/><br/>I had ordered the pork fillet in a creamy sauce with bacon and my fellow diner went with the scotch fillet medium rare in a red wine jus. Both of which were lovely, the pork while some bits were a little dry only got better as I went on and the scotch fillet was well cooked and quite tasty. We had also ordered a side salad and as we ate we discovered what we initially thought to be olives, based on colour and shape, this question was answered shortly after as my fellow diner bit down into one... and I was sprayed in the face with tomato juice, so tomatoes it was. Just as our meals arrived the night had really just kicked into gear with the fireworks starting at the show grounds complete with running commentary from one of our fellow diners at another table, including calls for more red fireworks, talk of multiple “crescendos!” and some lovely renditions of stranger in the night??? A better place to watch the fireworks action from I have never found.<br/><br/>All in all it was a very pleasant dining experience, while some of the staff appeared new and inexperienced they made up for that in enthusiasm and willingness to help, not to mention serving us Möet accidently, the food was lovely and the company brilliant... although as previously discussed you can’t have her! I highly recommend the restaurant, especially at show time.
Collywolly
What a let-down. In one word: disappointment. Small restaurant the same square footage as my lounge with drab walls and tiny tables. Expensive (but tasty) meals which lack any sides served with the meal, and only seem worth it considering the restaurant is part of the "split the bill" offer in "The Advertiser". If it weren't for the vouchers, I wouldn't even consider going.<br/><br/>It is a shame because the food and restaurant has so much potential.
Stephen Matthews
Quite a surprise. My wife and I happened to be staying at Rydges and decided to 'eat in'. To be blunt, I wasn't expecting too much at all. As others have mentioned, the views are fantastic and the decor is what it is; pretty bland, but okay. The staff were courteous, but young and seemingly inexperienced; they did a fair enough job but lacked polish. The food was the surprised given our low expectations. We were only after mains and had accompanying side dish of cauliflower with macadamia breadcrumbing, which was delicious. My wife had the pork belly and I had chicken. Both dishes were generous, well presented and well cooked. The pork crackling was extremely good. So, after quite low expectations, what we received was a pleasant surprise.
Daniel Low
I would come here only for the view and not the over cooked and dry steak. But considering I was using a streets voucher, it was acceptable.

Roast Chicken with mushroom risotto. Been here before, and gotta say I was less than impressed! Came here for the dinner dance for dads birthday and I gotta say the new management team is doing a great job. The new chef has a fantastic dish, I had the roast chicken with mushroom risotto it was sooooo good! Will be back to try the rib eye next. <br/>Serive was great, waiter Elvis is a great addition to the team! Band was cool too.<br/>If you want a great night out, give it a go! But book early it was packed!
Cathy Mittiga
Rib eye. Read some of the reviews here and I think that Skyline has listened! I was there on Saturday 20/08/11 and the restaurant was full and extremely busy. I was there with three other friends and absolutely loved it. My steak was tender cooked perfectly medium rare as I requested, served with speck and potato croqettes which I wish were sold take away I would have ordered a dozen of them. Service attentive overall loved it! Give it a try!!
Seasoned Diner
Over$ - Food + Service disappointing. The dining experience started with the staff arguing what table they would place me. The restaurant was only 20% occupied however the service took over 20 minutes to take my order. My glass of wine took 30 minutes to be served. The eye fillet read well, wrapped in prosciutto with a creamy peppercorn sauce. My Med Rare was presented well done, the salad was dressed in what tasted like vegetable oil. Overall, very bland and disappointing. I couldn't wait to finish so I could get back to the room (Rydges Adelaide) to indulge in the mini bar to drown my sorrows.
Mae
Highly NOT Recommended. Unfortanately, I ignored several previous reviews, mistake. The service - horrible. It seems as though they would be understaffed, but there were 2 servers for 4 tables (each of about 6 people). We were told our "coffee would be about 5-10 minutes as there are other tables I have to get to". This was the case with most drinks ordered, very delayed. One individual at the table received their "slow cooked" lamb shanks 10 minutes after the rest of the table. The food - alright. Some were somewhat satisfied, however, steaks that were meant to be medium rare were well-cooked. The environment - less than desirable. It was quite loud, and echoed a lot. Our request to close a partition to decrease the noise was ignored.<br/>In all, one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant in Adelaide. Very disappointed.
QMochalatte
Definitely do not recommend. I attended a wedding here, the toilets were filthy, the food APPALLING ( 'medium' steaks came out super well done hockey pucks with the worst mashed potato ever... Don't even think about ordering the salmon) and the staff were lovely but pretty inattentive. This is why so many people think they can cook better than professionals ... The kitchen staff really need to lift their game and the chef needs to find the love again. Half a star.
Conor Brand
Skyline offers superb views of the parklands with exquisite food. Between us we tasted a good selection of the menu and were very impressed with the steak, fish, kangaroo and lamb. I found the service to be a bit lacking. Don't get me wrong, the waitresses were very polite but they appeared to be understaffed and we found oursselves fighting for their attention.
Tara
Great view food is stunning the massive steaks are just the best so tender and lucky to get through it only down side u just get potato with it
