Review Amaro Ristorante - Adelaide

Decoyous
Definitely one of the authentic Italian restaurants! I'm a bit of a foodie myself so I appreciate some genuine Italian food, Ordered the Linguine Mar, it was fantastic! And the imported Italian wines were superb. Staff were unbelievably helpful and willing to please! A++

I had the gnocchi I with lamb it was not nice. Bits of tomatoe Skin and bay leaf not at all palatable The lamb dry and grainy . Even the desert tiramisu was vey average and my coffee was cold. Waitress sat on her computer all afternoon expensive not so good lunch. I am a local resident and will not be going back to amaro

Some colleagues & I recently had lunch at Amaros Ristorante on Hutt St, I had never been there before and I will tell you right now I definitely will be going back. Everything about this restaurant was top notch, from the coffee & bread, right through to my beautiful main (angus steak) and the sciroppo dessert. A big thanks to the staff, I will be returning with the wife soon.

To Amaro Ristorante, Sorry Amaro, but your food took so long and was not at all great. When I had one of your dishes it was all grainy and watery. When I followed this up I got just a tiny 10% off. I got a not so welcoming reply. I paid (in total) AU$ 150 which was extremely bad and as for the service... Mr Diaz 😊

Amaro Restaurant located at 173 Hutt Street is simply delightful. An Italian restaurant whose cuisine is based upon presenting a contemporary twist on classic Italian food. I personally enjoyed the "Pappardelle al ragu d'agnello e pepperoni" which is a tender duck sauce slowly cooked to produce this succulent and ever so wonderful taste. However sitting in the restaurant watching all those different dishes make their way through from the kitchen to the dining area made me feel nostalgic. As if those plates were miniature time capsules and I wasn't in Hutt street but I was actually back in Italy soaking in the culture and beautiful food.
In terms of wine selection and flavour Ursula the boss and head chef has an extensive range of different and wonderful Italian and local south Australian wines to satisfy anyone's taste.
Amaro Restaurant is one of the most interestingly delicious Italian restaurants I have ever been to for a long time.
Go in and visit the lovely staff and treat yourself!

To Amaro,
Your restaurant is appalling the food took over an hour to come, when the food eventually came the food had no favour or taste at all. If you want a good meal DON'T spend your time, money and effort coming here. The waitress didn't care and said that the food should taste like that after she tasted some of it.

A disappointment from start to finish. We began with the arancini balls, overcooked, bland and essentially a lukewarm ball of mush covered in breadcrumbs, which was only a mild foreshadowing of what was to come. The mains took almost an hour to arrive, by which times, our stomachs had basically begun to eat themselves. Self-digestion, however, would have been preferable to the mains we were served, amongst them, a four piece plate of ravioli, an egg pasta which was so sour that we had to admit defeat after a few bites and a gnocchi dish which, after the first failed attempt, was cooked with risotto instead - a good imitation of instant fried rice with an unpalatable sogginess.

But wait, there was an explanation for the snail-pace serving and inedible food - the official chefs had been sacked the night before and a new chef had only begun that night. We were only informed of this after our hour-long wait for our food and no compensation was offered for the substandard meals. Ironically, instead of a discount, the chefs not only forgot our side potatoes but also charged us for them afterwards. At the conclusion of the meal, many of us had left our mains close to untouched, as hard as we tried, we just could not stomach them, yet the hostess did not query this. It was clear that the meal had been a disaster, yet no concern was shown, nor was any apology offered for this. Even McDonald's offers better service than this with tastier food at 1/6 of the cost.

All in all, it was a horrible experience where the only good thing about the meal was the end of it.

Great Restaurant but i am wondering why there is only 4 negative reviews out of 35 so i am wondering how this judgment scale actually works ???

Fantastic food , adventurous I had wild boar handmade ravioli just so delicious, coupled with lovely genuine service. Couldn't ask for more. Thank you Amaro, see you again soon.

Authentic modern cuisine from Rome. I've been trying the highest rated Italian restaurants around Australia, this was the best I have tasted. The sauces are a totally different level--- complex and rich flavours but not overpowering. The whole place has a commitment to excellence in food and service. I've had the squid ink gnocci (wow), almond panacotta, arancini balls, bottaga/cockle pasta, pork belly with fennel sauce--- all sublime.

Amaro Ristorante on 173 Hutt St, Adelaide was next in our sight. A nice, cosy Italian restaurant along the Hutt St strip. Walking in we felt a sense of boldness and an air of an old school Italian restaurant. We were warmly greeted by owner Ursula who has been in the industry for over 20 years and is very passionate and proud of her establishment.

This restaurant is outstanding. The setting is very warm and cosy. Along with its homely feel is gentle lighting, with immaculately clean and lovely decor. The food is of the highest standard and quality I have ever had the pleasure of tasting and I dine out a lot. So fresh, so authentic and simply delicious. The service by the very knowledgeable lady that owns the restaurant along with her care and genuine passion is nothing short of first rate. Sadly this kind of attention to detail is lacking in many restaurants.
Jenny N

Reasonable food disappointing service. Had a mixed bag here. Atmosphere is great and prices reflect a top of the line restaurant but sadly service and food not quite up to scratch. A complimentary starter of Parmesan biscuit with balsamic and strawberry was interesting. Good flavours. An entree of pizza bread with mozzarella and tomato was very nice. A great selection of vego mains but pasta was underdone (not al dente -actually undercooked and hard). Desserts were fantastic. But the main disappointment was the service. Exceptionally slow and patchy even though there were 3 waitstaff and only 6 tables full.

Even worse was when one of the waitresses knocked off and was sitting in a booth but could see us gesturing for the bill but totally ignored us. Very frustrating and detracted from the whole experience.

It was only last week that the owners of Gusto on Hutt re-branded the restaurant to Amaro. Previously, Gusto on Hutt and the original Gusto in Norwood not only shared the same name, but they also had identical menus. After querying what the changes were, I was told Gusto in Norwood is a cafe while Amaro is a restaurant. The menu offerings have been changed up a bit with the most popular items being retained.

Awesome eatery amongst so many other standard ones. My partner and I eat there on Saturday night.
First time there(even though we live local)but it wont be the last.
Both our meals were fantastic and my partner who is a pork belly fan raved about it.
And to top it off the owner Ursula made herself known which is quite rare these day.
Do your self a favor and book a table and go.

A really special place. Do yourself a favour and just go, because you will be delighted.

Tonight we ate here with a group of 9. Service was good, wine list was ok, however rather brief and finished a little short, some higher end options or more diversity wouldn't go astray. The Italian beer was the savior.
Entree was good, arancini, octopus and oysters. However a problem with 'pre-marinated' oysters when natural was requested was the first hint that we could be in for an interesting night.
The kids main came out with the entree (a big tick for service) however chicken thrown into hot oil that's 90% crispy and dry and uncooked for the rest is not that appealing, my 3 year old wasn't impressed neither was I.
The mains arrived and the staff seemed to think any meat was veal, which was amusing to say the least and required some juggling of plates. I had the angus steak which was cut to resemble a rectangular Block and over cooked I had to ask for med-rare as it comes med-well, for $36 it was way overpriced and very disappointing and Italian mustards? Where do I start?!
The pasta linguini was tasty, but attention to detail in the prep was missing, huge chunks of spring onion were not pleasant, hang on.. or was it leek? Either way this wasn't fasta pasta pricing, but at least the cockles were all open.
The chicken was dry with a chewy fatty piece of bacon wrapped around it, I eat bacon like its a religion and even this was too much for me. The lamb.... well, I'm no professional critic so I've said enough if you've read this far. Apparently the squid and pork were good however I can't comment but would assume they fit the theme.
The tiramisu was great, deserts were good overall but all looked like they were prepared well before service, fresh mint leaves are not hard to find.
Overall the company and the drinks made the night, feels like a mid level family resto with fancy decor and inflated prices punching well above its weight.
Stick to your local Italian or wait until they find their feet. Right now it's just not that great for the $$.

So excited about the new menu!
Great selection of pasta and I had a tuna (variazione di tonno) which was sensational

Disappointed!!!. Had a meal with friends 12/8/14. Service very bad, both duck dishes and pork dish dry. Pasta undercooked.

Lovely - we will be back!. Went here despite some of the bad reviews. Loved loved LOVED the food- the buffalo mozzarella entree (best I have ever had), Spaghetti Vongole , Ravioli Gorgonzola and Tiramisu. Great food- pasta is proper Italian aldente (might be a bit tough for those not used to it). Wished we got some bread to sop up some of the sauce!!

We found the service delightful. Very unobtrusive but still attentive. Although very busy- we at no time felt rushed or that we needed to finish. Perfect for a romantic night or catching up with friends over a leisurely dinner. We definitely be back!

The best Italian food and service I have had in a long time. The owner was passionate and knowledgable about her food and wine. Coupled with wonderful company I will always remember the evening I spent here. Thank you!!!

Absolutely Fabulous. My wife and I live quite close to Gusto on Hutt in town, and have been there now about 5 times in the last couple of months - and that's because we just love the food and service, and it's quite smallish and not noisy like many places.
On each occasion we've found the food and service to be very good, and have tried several dishes now, including the squid, veal, pizza, calzone, arancini, pork, and my wife thinks the chicken salad is the best she's ever had!
The story about their phone being disconnected was unfortunate but now sorted. When explained to us it was clear that they were just not aware and I can see why some people got annoyed, but to an extent it wasn't their fault. I say give them a go!
This is our new favourite in town.
And their wine decanters are fantastic too!!
Jeff

Very disappointing. Despite reading poor reviews of Gusto on other websites I decided to try them tonight anyway. As listed on previous reviews the waiting staff seemed kind of inexperienced, but not that big a deal. Our entree was fine, it was a little different from what we ordered on the menu, but that was ok. However our mains were so disappointing they ruined the whole evening. As we are vegetarian and there weren't a lot of options, my partner ordered the smoked vegetable ravioli. When it came out, quite awhile after my dish, it consisted of 5 pieces of ravioli, which would have been passable if the ravioli had not been completely frozen. As it was inedible he had to take it back. I then did not really want to finish eating my meal alone, so left most of it. I had ordered the mushroom ravioli which was quite sloppy and not especially appetising either. When we paid at the end the staff did not appear very apologetic about our frozen ravioli, and we still had to pay for the rest of our meal. It was a pretty disappointing experience overall, and I can't think of any reason I would ever eat there again. The dishes were priced much too highly for the level of quality, and overall dining experience we received.

Is this place really open?. I have rung twice and left a message two days running, yet no call back. I will have to look elsewhere

Our first visit to Gusto on Hutt. We tried the rabbit ragu pasta and seafood pasta both were sooooo very good!! Very friendly service and a great way to spend a beautiful evening.

Faultless, delicious, we will be back!. A faultless evening began with delicious wine & Antipasto Di Gusto; the antipasto was absolutely divine! The quality of the produce was obvious and left me excited to see what was to come next!
Our mains were again brilliant, easily the best pasta we have ever had, all the seafood was cooked to perfection and the flavour was second to none!

Of course!! the best was saved to last... my desert was so beautiful to look at I couldn't imagine that it could possibly taste better than it looked... but it did!
The whipped ricotta with cinnamon & candied pear was soooooo good!!
Until I tried my husbands Tiramisu, seriously - IT WAS PERFECTION!

Thank you so much to all the attentive and knowledgable staff that guided our way through Tuscan and made our (long overdue) date night sensational

Finally a restaurant with amazing atmosphere, service and food..
I have tried a few dishes and have fallen in love with them all.. The staff here is so welcoming and really great at matching their Italian wines with any course... even a special dessert wine we enjoyed with the best Tira Mi Su... We had my friends birthday dinner there too. It was a busy night yet we were totally looked after, bringing an amazing b day cake out as the whole restaurant began singing "happy birthday" it was incredible. WE Love this place!

Took my partner their for his birthday dinner.....very disappointing. Service was poor. Entree was good, but mains dry. Had to actually ask for our change after paying the bill!!!!

Had the most wonderful dinner at Gusto with two girlfriends. I ordered the mushroom risotto, which was absolutely delicious! My friends had the fusilli ragu and the ravioli alla gorgonzola! We were all extremely happy with our meals, they were full of flavour and presented beautifully. We couldn't say no to a taste of one of their desserts and were also not disappointed! We had a wonderful evening and we look forward to dining here again soon.

Delicious!. We are long time fans of Gusto on Norwood Parade and were thrilled to see this restaurant open near us on Hutt Street, but after reading some of the reviews on this site I was a little put off and apprehensive. However I'm so happy we did try this place out as we had a delicious and lovely meal and will definitely be back. We ordered the arancini balls (quite a large entree for $12.50 - 4 balls with a mix of gorgonzola and mushroom filling) and then both of us had the smoked eggplant ravioli ($26.50) - it was one of the best ravioli dishes I've ever eaten. Lovely homemade pasta and the filling was divine, floating in a sauce of gorgonzola, and a very reasonable size. It paired beautifully with the Bottega Chianti Classico. I really recommend as not only was the food great, but the decor is lovely and it's a relaxing atmosphere for a nice dinner, or special occasion.

My partner and I went on the weekend and we cannot speak highly enough of it.
The quality of food and customer service and attention to detail is second to none. Well done.

Terrible service!. Decided to give this place a try considering their Norwood restaurant has always been really good in terms of food and service. We waited for about 5 minutes before we were seated- waiter/ waitress avoided eye contact and wasn't serving other tables at the time and the restaurant wasn't very busy either. When we were finally shown to our table, we weren't provided any table water throughout our entire dinner. Food was ok when it came out, but not enough for us to overlook their poor customer service. Needless to say, we won't be coming back to this restaurant.

Italian with GF options!!!. Tried Gusto on Hutt as my daughter has Ceoliac Disease and a work friend said they did gluten free pasta!! I will start by saying our entrees (fried oysters) were even better than expected! We did have a wait for our mains but the dining room was full, and they too were worth the wait. The hostess actually influenced my order and Im so glad as the crab linguine was to die for. My husband is a steak man and he was also impressed by the fillet steak that was off the specials menu, his only complaint was no salt and pepper on the table, but ask and you shall receive!!
Alot of restaurants claim to be GF but dont understand the severity a lax kitchen can have on people with an intolerance. No problems here. They even modified their desert to cater for my daughter. Might be our new go to restaurant!

Italian Hutt St. May 26, 2014 I hadn't noticed this place before. The decor is to an unusually high spec for Adelaide. I'm reclining on a faux crocodile skin bench The menu is in pristine condition, which indicates that the place is very new. Turns out it's just over three weeks old. I place my umbrella next to my seat, so I won't forget it. It's very easy to leave umbrellas behind. Bracioline di Vitello 7/10 Char grilled milk fed baby veal rolled with semi dried tomatoes, roasted capsicums, baby spinach & basil pesto served with a Mediterranean vegetable stack & onion jus. The meat itself is passable - nothing amazing, and slightly chewy, but it's surrounded by flavourful tomato, onion, and the amazing mashed potato.

It’s a common misconception that Gusto on Hutt and Gusto in Norwood are the same restaurant in different locations. While both places serve Italian cusine, the menu is different and the offerings here are supposedly a bit more upmarket.

This is the second Gusto restaurant that's opened in Adelaide. I remembered dining at Gusto on the Parade for the first time. Fantastic Italian food and one of my favourite seafood marinara pasta.

Belated catch up with some girlfriends a few weeks back at Gusto on Hutt where the restaurants focus was on regional Southern Italian cuisine – second restaurant to Gusto on The Parade. I’ve never noticed Gusto on Hutt Street so it was quite a surprise when the location of the restaurant was so close to other popular offerings like Long House Cafe , Goodlife Modern Organic Pizza and Coffylosophy which were all across the road. Gusto’s interior was dark yet warm with large lantern light fixtures on the ceiling, a long sofa seat along one wall of the restaurant and a long shelf of vibrant looking olive oil bottles on display with a back light. Our group ordered an antipasto plate to share before we tackled our individual mains. Antipasto di gusto; $25.00 The antipasto consisted of sliced small goods, chorizo slices, some cheeses, grilled button mushrooms with melted cheese, roasted capsicums, pickled artichokes, anchovies, olive tapenade, fried squid and oven baked bread. It was all… oka
