Review Argo On The Square - Adelaide

Reasonable breakfast options, good service. Overall enjoyable but feel as there are better options around.

Colleagues and I waited an hour for our food. Sweet potato wedges were cold soggy fries and vegan burger came out with a fried egg on it. I ordered a toasted chicken focaccia. Chicken was too tough and over cooked to eat, super bland no seasoning at all and couldn’t finish it. Not going back.

Argo on the square is simply awesome!!!! These folk love their food and just as importantly, coffee!!!! Went there because it was conveniently located to our hotel and rated high on Google and we are sooooo glad we did! The coffee was excellent and the food excellent and generous! Make sure you check both sides to ensue you do not miss out on the specials!!!!

Great breakfast place if you fancy something a little different, or even if you are after std breakfast options. Pic 1 is slow cooked pulled pork Benedict and ill definitely be ordering that again! Pic 2 i think was the, well named, big breakfast. Never seen my colleague not finish a meal v Before :) Friendly staff and good coffee was a bonus

Their food is always good. Although my burger was far too big, and I had to dissect it almost too eat it. Otherwise really good.

As a mushroom lover, I couldn't go past the Mushroom Ragu when I came here for breakfast. It did not disappoint. Everything on the plate tasted delicious. The amount of mushroom on the plate was generous and simply a delight to eat. I've been here twice now and will highly recommend this place for breakfast for anyone visiting Adelaide.

Massive range of options for both food and drinks. Coffee lovers have plenty of choice of milk including soy, almond, coconut and macadamia. Lots of yum food with plenty of variety. Plenty of seating which is lucky given it gets pretty lively during rush hours. Good choice for breakfast or lunch. Mushroom Ragout is a cracker of a dish. Paper straws very much appreciated!

friendly staff, great vibe, quick service too. had the pulled pork burger - amazing! and treat yourself to a taro latte! so good!!!

The nachos were amazing and so was the freshly squeezed orange juice! The only complaint is they forgot my friend’s order and we had to wait a bit longer.

Really great vibe. Friendly staff. Bright and airy and great quality coffee. Freshly trendy menu. Just I had almost finished my meal by the time my friends means arrived.
Been here for days for brunch, you will never failed to try anything on their menu. Pulled pork was their special on Wednesday and it was great. Everything were delicious. Also, they have wide range of food on menu which is suitable brunch. Try here and you will never regret

The coffee was very different and almost fruity. An extremely small cup, if I were to go back I’d get a large next time. The food is extremely under seasoned and leaves you feeling greasy and gross - I’ve felt better after eating some fast food. The service is quite standoffish and rude. I’m not desperate to go back, and if I ever do go back I wouldn’t order anything more than a coffee.

Argo on the Square is phenomenal. I’d heard lots of good thing about here, but have been put off by apparently how busy it is.

However, I was starving for lunch and thought I’d give it a try.

My first impression was the clean, minimalist but stylish atmosphere and the second was how comprehensive the menu was (check it out). Instead of the same old tired smashed avocado as a basic vegetarian dish, I got the Purple Toast- a delicious combination of poached eggs on sourdough with beetroot paste, feta, dukkah and caramelised onion. The serve was very generous for a reasonable $18.9- I have definitely paid $25 before for something half as good and half as imaginative. Service was good (20 minutes in a busy CBD setting at lunch rush and polite. Will definitely be coming back to explore the rest of the menu and the cabinet of delicious treats.

In summary: Argo on the Square has a wide, delicious range of vegetarian and vegan options with good service in a minimalist CBD setting.

Argo always produces tasty, generous portioned food - I particularly liked their big omelette - the addition of cheese and potato made it really tasty. And the MJ burger is tasty too. The menu is huge and it's hard to choose, but so far haven't been disappointed by eating here.

It does get crazily busy and REALLY noisy inside though.

Look, I have a limited experience of the place because I just went in for a cup of coffee and had that and nothing else.

But it was very good coffee and when I spoke to the barrista very friendly, very knowledgeable and obviously a guy who cares a lot about his product. When he started telling me about the difference three degrees in water temperature can make I knew we were talking Art.

If you need a surefire lunch spot then Argo on the Square is for you. The food always delivers - good serves, colourful, interesting menu. Burgers, salads - something for everyone. Good coffee. Fresh juices and smoothies.

Great coffee. I was in Adelaide for a couple of days on a work trip and our hotel was around the corner from Argo. It was definitely worth the walk. I tried their bagel as well. Whilst I wasn't disappointed, it didn't impress me either since it's relatively pricey.

A great place with great range of good to go meals, hot beverages and healthy and delicious specialties which are freshly made everyday! This place has a great vibe and ambiance! I love their hot milk chocolate and they have this purple toast which I found unique and interesting. Overall it was an amazing experience ' thanks Argo !

I love coming here for a snack or for lunch! I love the sweet potato wedges with the aioli sauce, the juices etc. The menu is huge which is a plus especially when you have friends with different dietary requirements there is always something they can have on the menu. Every time I have been to Argo, the staff have always been attentive and service has been great considering how busy they can get. Keep doing what you're doing 😉

Amaaaazing! Food/Drinks/Service, Overall my top 5 fav cafes in SA 😍😍 Great french toast, best fries and sweet potato chips! Seriously cant get better than this!

Another Argo location, directly at the square. There is a fair bit of space and it was busy this morning. Service was friendly and helpful.

The Good: The big Breakfast is great, Tumeric Latte with Coco milk a match made in heaven.

The not so good: there is no Argo in Melbourne.

Verdict: Will be back, keep on doing what you are doing. It's great.
Dani
wasn't the best waffle I've had and wasn't worth the price I've paid for it. more about fancy looks and for people that want to Instagram a photo of it! the only highlight was the chocolate ice cream!
Kady
Great place.
The menu is huge it took me a while to pick just one. Usually places with such large menus don't do everything great but this place did.
The servings were large and everything was cooked great and full of flavour.
The wait staff were just as fantastic as the food.

The standout was my top deck hot chocolate. I loved it.
Wu Qiangsheng
Location and services are good. Food is really ordinary. Vegetarian menu has nice concepts only. It's good for a $10 take away. If you would like to spend $15 or $20, try somewhere else.

Took away a Parfait Cup and an Apricot bliss ball. The parfait cup had some interesting colours. There was a layer that was a bright blue, so that was a bit terrifying...it definitely wasn't the most aesthetic after giving the parfait a bit of a mix, but it was pretty tasty. Nothing mind blowing though. The bliss ball was disappointing. It was rather tasteless. I'm not sure what they used, because usually bliss balls consist of a lot of dates which should provide the sweetness. The food here is decent, but the prices are on the high side. the Parfait Cup was $12.50 from memory, and the bliss ball $4.50. Not really worth the money.

-------------------------------------

Return visit:

I was so disappointed with the smoothie bowl I got this morning. I had seen so many photos of their glorious-looking smoothie bowls on Instagram so I was ever so excited to finally try it. The smoothie looked highly promising, with the fruits, granola and other bits and pieces beautifully arranged on top. Sadly it was all downhill from there. It was extremely watery - like the consistency of melted ice cream. The ginger was over powering and wasn't blended together that well, meaning there were chunks of solid ginger throughout the smoothie that lead to an overly gingery flavour that slapped you in the face every few mouthfuls. Not entirely pleasant.

Argo redeemed itself with the falafel salad, though. The falafels were brilliant, especially when dipped into the 2 sauces it came with - a sweet chilli sauce that tops all sweet chilli sauces I have ever tasted, and a unique, slightly spicy yoghurt dip. They were very generous with the sauce, and I ended up barely using half of each tub even after generously dunking/ smearing each falafel with them.
FYI
Hm acai bowls no where near as good as they are at norwood Argo. runny, 3 small slices of banana and one slice of strawberry- lift your game Vic Square!
Jimichanga
Fantastic tasty food with super fresh ingredients! The friendly smiling staff make it a pleasure to start the day with a visit to Argos for breakfast. :-)

Came here today for brunch hoping to find something to fill me up, and boy was that expectation exceeded. My friend ordered the Love burger and I ordered the salted caramel waffles, and we got a large serving of the sweet potato wedges to share. We should've gotten the smaller bowl.

The burger was tasty, absolutely filled with the beef patty (which had a slight Mexican flavour), bacon, egg and salad. The burger had slightly too much meat compared to the amount of salad given, but was incredibly filling. The waffles were okay, although I found the actual waffle to be a bit too dense for my liking, but the flavours were still very good. The sweet potato wedges were incredibly nice, but the serving was way too much for the two of us - we only finished half (and not for the lack of trying). I also ordered one of the green juices which had pineapple, ginger, mint and apple (I think). The juice was incredibly refreshing and I would recommend it if you usually like pineapple juice with a bit of a kick.

The service we received was very friendly and prompt, all the staff we encountered were easy going and professional. I will definitely coming back to try other items on their extensive menu!

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. The gypsie bowl is delicious. Almond milk mocca is smooth and creamy. They have some really good healthy food options.

I can't believe that it has taken me this long to go there!

Their menu is that extensive that I was happy that one of their menu items was called 'The Undecided'. It came with a bowl of muesli and smashed avocado and feta, on top of a piece of rye toast. The food was perfect and the coffee was even better.

Can't wait until I go back again!

The staff at Argo on the Square are incredibly friendly and the service is exceptionally good. I tried the smashed avocado meal for brekkie and loved how there was a burst of some of the freshest flavours. Also had the freshly squeezed orange juice and I still stand by the fact that it is the best orange juice I've had in all of Adelaide.

Love this place! Absolute must even time I'm in Adelaide. Exactly how a menu should be adorned with choice! Everything is fresh healthy and delicious. Sets a benchmark for every other Cafe. Very happy customers!
Saltedcaramel
Great selection of juices and fantastic coffee. I had serious food envy when my friend ordered the Deliciously Bananas dish - beautifully presented and tasted amazing!! I"d come back just for the chance to eat this.
Feed Me, Adelaide
Argo is easily one of the busiest café’s in the Adelaide CBD. I make this statement not based on a great deal of evidence, true. I am not tracking all the venue’s around Adelaide and comparing their stats. But every time I walk past here, which is often enough on my weekly or bi-weekly sojourns to the Central Markets, it is a thriving hubbub of customers.
Angie-Marie Piantadosi
I don't come here as often as I do the Norwood one but I find the food and service just as great as one another, highly recommended for a great meal!
Adam Cantley
I love Argo. The menu is extensive, the staff friendly and the food great. It's the perfect stop for a wrap and smoothie, or something a bit sweeter. I adore the Mango Mania smoothies and can't wait to down a lot more of them working in the city over summer.

As my school is around the corner, I am a known regular here. Service is pretty good except for one man who is extremely rude and unprofessional. This has led me to avoid being served by him at the register. The other girls and one man in particular are ridiculously nice, so friendly and seem very experienced. Never had an issue with the food or drinks here, however, slightly expensive. Considering the fresh produce, understandable. Going to miss this place when I am not longer around the corner from it!

Inside a generous seating area, thick plywood tables, with black overlay, the chairs and stools are a blond wood, the ceiling is set off in grey. As a feature thick black plywood used on the tables, are built into the ceiling in strips, with light shades hanging from them. This has created a very modern appealing, functional dining area. Placed around the walls are some good art photo's.
The menu is packed with a large range of food options, all at affordable prices. We enjoyed an Argo omelette, with shallots, mushrooms, chilli, diced tomato, baby spinach leaves & provolone cheese, served with organic rye bread.
Our order was well prepared, with out a great delay and served by very attentive friendly staff. We finished our breakfast with a good coffee, relaxed and could well understand how this Cafe is so busy

I've visited Argo many times before and was surprised I had not reviewed as yet. Argo are very accommodating to dietary requirements and the menu is clearly marked with these options.

My experience today was good as usual. I couldn't pick between the cool mint or green tea so went with the advice from the barista to try cool mint. I had one sip and couldn't stand the taste, when the waitress came to clear the table next to me I let her know I was finished with the tea pot as I didn't like it. She offered me a different tea as I hadn't drank much at all. I thanked her and said if it wasn't an issue that would be lovely, so they replaced it with a green tea which I enjoyed. Also had the sweet potato fries with hummus instead of aioli. The hummus was great and the fries were well cooked and chunky.

I don't frequent Argo on the Square as much as the parade, but the consistency of service and quality of food is much the same! Definitely try the smoothie range and one of the raw or vegan treats!

Argo definitely as a sophisticated atmosphere! There is an extensive menu ready to be greeted when you walk it but be warn, Argo is extremely full during lunch times when all the offices workers comes down for some healthy eating. I ordered a burger with arrived in no time. The burger itself was large in portion sizes with patty cooked to near perfection. i got to say the star of the show of Argo is definitely its smoothies. They are on point. If Argo was situated closer to uni, I would definitely go every single day. Overall, Argo is a pleasant restaurant perfect for any eatings.

I was super impressed with all the brekky options available on the menu. From classics, to sweet dishes, ridiculously healthy alternatives, and even a dedicated vegan section! They literally had something for everyone.

We were feeling like a classic breakfast so Will ordered the ‘ARGO Big Brekky’ ($16.90) with extra spinach, Mum and I got the vegetarian big brekky ‘Vegge Plate’ ($16), and Dad, feeling like something a little different, ordered ‘The Shroom’ ($12.90). We also ordered coffees and two juices.

In no time at all, our meals joined the table accompanied by our healthy juices and coffees.
Laura
I go here most mornings for coffee before work, as well as for lunches quite often, and I have never had a bad experience. The staff are always so lovely. There's a great selection of non-dairy milks, too. Loads of vegan options. I especially love the Black Rose salad, which is very generous in size.
Allister Higgins
Coffee was good as was eggs Benedict. Not really sure why it was on brioche though... Brioche is sweet - yum with jam... A good English muffin would have been better in keeping with the otherwise tasty savory breakfast.
Jon QX Choong
Good coffee, delicious burger, friendly and flexible staff.. Went there for brunch, we sampled mocha, cappuccino and their latte.all the coffees were really good.
8/10 for coffee.

I wanted to try 'the love' beef burger but I don't eat beetroots so I requested the staff to change it to avocado instead and they were all good with it.
9/10 for my customized burger. Loved it.
Sadler_james
The Bacon isn't bacon. I went in for a bacon and egg sandwich and a latte.

The coffee was fine ...

The bacon wasn't - it tasted like warm ham.

And why is there this assumption that a bacon and egg sandwich has to be toasted? Odd.
Two Fat Cullos
Popped in a number of times now whilst on my break. Food they definitely know what they're doing with a vast variety of dishes. The food is always so fresh & wholesome. Love the fresh juices and flavour combinations. Service is always friendly even more so once you start showing your face a few times and coffee is always spot on whether take away or dine in.
Cola_watermelon
Love it!. This is one of my go-to cafes in the CBD area! The girls behind the counter are always smiling and helpful, even when they're busy! The guys who make the coffee do an outstanding latte and the hot chocolates are to die for! Also its nice having options for lactose free, almond milk, soy etc! Food is always fresh and delicious, and the Argo salad is my favorite! Highly recomended! A++++

Went into Argos on the square a few days ago with a few friends...the food was delightful and fresh. We were all pleased with our meals, the staff were lovely, also the girls at the counter were wearing daffodils to support daffodil day which was very pleasant to see. Definitely will be coming back.

I've been to Argo on the parade a few times and love it! I went to Argo on the square for my first time with a few friends on Tuesday morning and didn't love it. Four things went wrong. First, the orders came out at completely different times, they forgot the jam for one of my friends breakfast, so she asked the waitress who asked the girl that made it who argues "I put jam on it already" when it clearly had no jam.. Eventually the one girl on the floor (who I felt sorry for!) bought the jam out. Then my friend got the Argo Benedict and it had no hollandaise sauce. She asked the waitress where it was and the waitress replied with oh.. Did you ask for it? Anyway.. Eventually she got the hollandaise sauce in a seperate bowl. Meanwhile this was happening, I ordered the argo ommlett on rye bread with avacado. Yeah it was tastey but I had to wait about 7 minutes for my toast because they forgot it. so by the time I got the one slice or not very toasted toast, my ommlett was cold. The waitress said to me first that I had to order the toast seperate then I told her it said it is included on the menu so she then went to ask and came back and said I'll get it in a second. I noticed she never went back to tell the girl to toast me rye so I kindly asked her again so she went and did it. But I still had to wait 5 minutes for that.. So all my friends had finished when I started. Oh and my avacado that I paid extra for was rock hard so didn't even eat it. Lastly my friend wanted to get her mocha in take away and all I can say is the two barista's, a girl and a boy were incredibly rude. Didn't make eye contact just said "yeah" a couple of times. Anyway! I normally love Argo and never leave bad reviews ! So I'm just leaving this so the manager can see it to improve!
AH
Good brunch!. My dad and I had brunch here today and it was generally very pleasant! The scrambled tofu was a little dry and flavourless, but the zaatar on top was delicious. I think that the meal would have been more pleasant with a bit more zaatar and kale to add some more flavour and texture. But my dad did love his bacon and eggs so perhaps it was just my dish. However, I have to rave about the OUTSTANDING hot chocolate I had with coconut milk! It was so dark and rich, and the extensive hot chocolate menu and choice of milks made it difficult to choose just one to try! All in all this place is a solid choice for a meal in the Central Market area and they cater for every type of dietary preference and need!
Tina Fae
Semi okay service recieved. Waited quite a while for our meals to come out and drink,5 minute intervals between items received.. So the consistency was really lacking I ordered vegan waffles on the menu, the coconut ice cream was delicious the waffle was okay but was drowning in maple sauce I would like the option to decipher how much sauce I want on, because it was just wayyyy too much and way too sweet apart from that I will probably return to try other things from the menu..
Famished
Spoiled for choice. I finally arrived early enough to dine here for breakfast (the restaurant is normally overflowing with customers). Having already viewed the menu online, I knew Argo offered many options and I couldn't wait to tuck in. The Vege Plate (eggs, mushrooms, beans, tomato, spinach, hash brown, toast) and Veganaut Juice were a hit and generous in size. Next time I might go a sweet dish, as the waffles sounded great. Service was a bit slow, but I excused that, as the place filled up soon after I ordered.
Teza36
Ordered a group work lunch for pick up, upon returning i was charged additional $1.40 for asking not to have Cannelini beans in my Flafel salad. My Flafel was stale and hard as rocks, was full of lettuce leaves hardley any beetroo or tomatoes pretty expensive salad $17.35, one of the other orders was turkey roll, there was no Turky and the roll was rock hard, we were told there was a last minute price increase??What Tha, service by the girl was very poor and she got irrate when the price of the order was questioned?. I sent Argos an email but as usual never got a response. We have 10 plus people that will never buy lunch from there again. Not so fresh and friendly.
Renee Panteli
Best for lunch. Love the food here (especially the hot dogs) , have tried most things on the menu, always quick service and good service by the staff. never had a bad experience and come here often.
Vincent Liu
Need Improvement. As a business traveler, I find the arrangement in Argo on The Square is confusing and need improvements. There is no clear menu display anywhere and customer expected to find a table before you order at the counter (what happen if you are on your own?). I got to say their coffee is good but food is just average. My breakfast takes more than 20 mins and waitresses seems always too busy to help. Anyway, there are plenty of cafe to choose from in the area and will not go back again.
Luke Pearce
Recommend. I recently had a ridiculously good coffee from here (perfect taste...and temperature for a takeaway!)

Absolutely huge servings of fries/wedges for the price. Good place to take someone for a shared lunch. Just make it a slightly late one. That way you'll actually be able to hear each other talk!
LadyZombir
Fairly priced, good food. I admit this place is much noisier than I would like, but as for the slightly higher prices here, it's clear they're catering to the business lunch crowd. I feel you get much more food that you need anyway, so I don't think this place is particularly pricey. I've had great salads here, but the burgers aren't anything special.
Wasklywabbit
Best focaccia and wedges in Adelaide. Oh and my hubby says its the best coffee outside our place. We like this Argo better than The Parade.
Yvette
Had high expectations after a great experience at the Norwood argo, but the city resturant is terrible. Went in at 2:30 for lunch and the kitchen was closed. Ended up having to order one of the left over focaccias, which had a dead mosquito in it. To further disappointment my milkshake was warm. Staff were lovely but the food sucks.
Foodlovers
Overpriced, bad coffee, noisy venue, long wait, greasy meat on salad, overpriced, rude staff, oh and did I mention overpriced??? Seriously... Won't bother going back. :/
Amy Boulding
Just had the most delicious smooth, creamy coffee, along with a very reasonably priced and tasty poached egg breakfast. Great vibe, lovely staff, amazing coffee. Thanks Argo!
Gordo
I've stopped going to Argo on the square
It's just too noisy and not relaxing
I go to relax and it's the most noisy place I have ever encountered in the city sqaure. something is wrong with the acoustics.
Every dropped spoon your hear it. Every time the staff yell you hear it.
Sally Peck
Argo is a trendy café with 2 locations in the Adelaide area; Victoria Square in the CBD and The Parade in Norwood. The cafe’s are very vegan friendly with a separate vegan breakfast menu. Annoyingly the vegan options on the lunch menu (on the website) are neither separate nor clearly marked. The interior is lovely with lots of greenery, both real and fake. The plants are even on the walls! It’s a nice atmosphere. I went there with a fellow vegan friend for breakfast after a cycling event. I ordered an It’s Pearific frappe and the Vegan Waffle. It’s Pearific Frappe The frappe was quite nice. Well balanced, not too much ice and a nice hint of mint at the end. The Vegan Waffles The waffle were interesting. The waffle itself was made from a banana and walnut batter, which tasted lovely but made the waffle quite dense and heavy. The coconut sorbet had nice flavour and wasn’t too sweet but was icy. The chocolate sauce was more like a chocolate mouse. It tasted like a raw desert, had a slight

There’s a cool place called Argo on the Square. Where you can get food at a price that is fair. Every time I walk past, the place is full to the brim. But stepping inside, it was a bit loud and a bit dim.
Amy Huang
At the end of the day, Argo keeps me coming back for the friendly staff, reasonably priced meals and huge selection of fresh and mostly healthy items to choose from. I’m pretty sure my love affair with Argo on the Square will continue, as I slowly tick off the menu items one by one while watching the slow, slow reno of Victoria Square ;)
Eat Study Work
A slightly disappointing meal for me this time round, but I think Jenny definitely enjoyed her wrap! I'm rarely disappointed by Argo's (either on the Square or the Parade) so I will be back, but making a mental note to avoid this piadina in particular.

Argo is a fabulous spot for lunch, and always packed whenever I visit, whether it's on the Parade or Victoria Square!
On The Chopping Board
Argo first hit my radar when I read about the delicious vegan treats served at Argo on The Parade. When I had a spare lunch break, Nathan tweeted Argo asking if the vegan treats extended to Argo on the Square. They do. Inside feels 'hipster' but not too hipster that suits feel uncomfortable. Before I get stuck into telling you about the food, I want you to visit Argo's website , specifically the 'Our Community' page where you'll learn about the not for profit organisations supported by Argo. Selflessly, the tips collected by Argo staff (usually because of the exceptional service and food) are all donated to the not for profit they've chosen to support that quarter. A gold star for Argo - if only more Adelaide hospitality businesses did this. The day I visited Argo, it was cool and raining. The specials board outside advertised a salad, which didn't entice me in but once I retrieved a menu from the counter, I was in like Flynn!

Well done Argo for providing a choice of good hot chocolate flavours.
