All the food here is amazing! I have been here a number of times for breakfast and lunch and I would recommend everything on the menu but I usually get the scrambled eggs. The place is very cosy and the owner, Grant, is very accomodating and is happy to explain the dishes to you if you’ve never tried them. Also, great hot chocolates 👍.
I RECOMMEND THE STEAK
On arrival, we were greeted by the waiter opening the door for us and showing us to our table which although I had a booking, wasn't properly made up.
While the dinner menu is only one page long, we still had difficulty deciding what to order as a lot of the choices were tempting. There were some specials as well.
He had the beef fillet - cooked exactly to his liking & it was fabulous. We all had a taste & agreed on how good it was.
I had the prawn & bugtail linguine which was served with a plethora of cherry tomatoes which I love.
She had the whiting with wedge style chips and enjoyed it.
All three plates were scraped clean.
We didn't order entrees or sides because we had seen the desserts menu & wanted to 'save room'.
The desserts were delectable: choc fondant plus brioche & butter pud with cleaned plates again.
I would like to return to try other dishes on the menu.
Four of us had dinner here on Tuesday night 14th March. I had the chicken. Other diners had crab cakes, balmain bugs linguine and fish of the day, along with various vegetables side dishes.
The food was absolutely delicious. The service was good and the cafe surroundings were smart and comfortable. The wine list was excellent. I would definately recommend Vileroy for anyone looking for delicious food and wine.
An open spacious cafe/restaurant to dine in. The glass feature walls make the area look a lot wider and bright. There are newspapers stuck all over the walls - ?look like they are doing some renovation.
Services - staffs on board are not very friendly at all. Seems to be inattentive and couldn't really care. Incorrect information given at times about their beverages. I was told their coffee is pretty strong, had a double shot latte but was given in a tall glass and I could barely taste the coffee at all. However, some good recommendation given on the food menu. Speed of service is also pretty good.
Food - serving here is pretty decent. Worth the value. love the pan seared tuna salad. The salad was refreshing, well dressed but might be better if it can be served in smaller pieces. Tuna was seared to perfection and well seasoned. Beautiful poached eggs with the runny egg yolk is perfect to bring the whole dish together. Meatball pasta was lacking some seasoning. Definitely need some salt and pepper and personally I would love to have a hint of chilli in there as well.
Beverages - mentioned above, coffee weak. If you like weak coffee this would be all good. Average wine list.
I would still be back to try their lemon soufflé hot cake which sound very interesting but they only served that for brekky. Hopefully services improve the next time I'm there.
Ambiance: 7 / 10
It's open plan and airy but, warm. We were there for lunch on an early
winter cold snap with pouring rain. The big windows juxtaposed the conditions
outside to the cosiness inside. It can get a little loud though with acoustics being
sharp but, some would say that adds to the buzz of the place. There’s 2
upstairs function rooms that are worth keeping in mind.
Winelist: 8.5 / 10 The
owner/manager knows his stuff with interesting, unique and different wines. Finally,
someone who chooses the wines on merit not the label. I’m considering maybe a
9/10 as I write.
Service: 8 / 10 Again,
the Boss has clearly been around hospitality for a long time with an almost
psychic 6th sense for our needs without any intimidating hover. His
assistants have been well mentored too. It all adds up to polite, professional
yet, calm and relaxing imbibing.
Cuisine: 8 / 10 Comprehensive
menu both for how hungry and styles. Mine was served almost cold though but,
fantastic texture, flavour balance and harmony. It was a small portion size as
well even though it was termed a ‘Main’. Perhaps I just chose mine poorly as my
2 friends were in raptures and they’re both foodies (one’s a chef and the other
is a master home cook). I’ve given an extra ½ point bowing to their opinions.
Value for what you get: 8.5 / 10 This place is a bit of a hidden gem,
moderately priced with its quality above its price point
The deal maker or breaker; would I go back? Already planned.

Frequently dine here and love it! Wonderful atmosphere and love the interesting and funny conversations with the owner. The fish specials are always so fresh and full of flavour, but its also hard to go past the Char grilled Cape Grim Fillet of Beef, Roasted Garlic, Deep Fried Egg, Pancetta Roasted Potatoes.
Back at Vile Roy. Food here has been very good on my previous two visits.
There's not much on the menu that I haven't had before, and isn't infested with chilli.
Fantastic. Great service with a spectacular menu. The food was Devine. Highly recommended.
Regular diner. We eat or have a coffee at Vileroy a couple of times each month. Service and food can vary from outstanding down to just above average - coffees are always excellent. Wait staff change and thus does the level of service, not too sure about the kitchen staff - meal quality varies in terms of content and portion size. Owner wasn't the happiest person in the world originally but has become far more professional in the past 12 months and the place is becoming quite busy - funny that!
This is one of our favourite restaurants. The whiting and hand cut chips are almost always 10/10. Sure, the owner has character but the service has been good for us. It is ambient and comfortable.
