I have been around most of the Ramen places in adelaide and this (along with contemporary japanese deli in the city) is one of the best. The broth is flavourful, the noodles are great. It isn't far out of the city, I will often travel out there for a bowl even when im working in the city
One of the best or the best ramen in Adelaide. Ramen always packs a punch of flavour. And you are able to customise to suit your taste. Small and cute little place and great service. They have a variety of offerings if ramen isn’t your thing but all in all a great place to go for delicious ramen. Nothing to fault yet.
One of my favourite places to eat. Excellent service, delicious food..and the chef is so happy to talk to you about his food/the ingredients he uses. The matcha pancake is a highlight and the recent special of loco moco is so good that I'm going back before it ends!
Absolutely delicious and very helpful friendly service. I had the seafood based ramen soup with marinated seaweed and fish cake. My 3 year old ate everything we gave him here which doesn’t always happen ☺️. He had the kids ramen. The online menu in Zomato is outdated and there are so many more delicious additions to this menu so please next reviewer take a pic of the new menu as I forgot!! Definitely keen to come back 👍🏼😁
Awewome ramen!!! Added all extras lol well not all but most. Was surprised how big the bowl waa lol. Heaps of noodles which is great. Only thing i didnt like was the meat was a bit to fatty would like a choice of meat to be greater maybe some chicken breast or a more leaner cut of pork would be great. But id go back again for sure i had the miso based broth.
SUPER tasty ramen. The first place I've found in Adelaide that compares to what I've eaten in Japan. So satisfying. I'm no coffee connoisseur but I really enjoyed theirs. Craft Japanese beers and sake if that's your thing. Baked Japanese cheesecake and chic brownies were delicious. The wait staff were incredibly friendly and approachable - always smiling and nothing was too much trouble. I might have found a new favourite lunch spot.
Been wanting to visit for awhile and I'm not disappointed. Only came for the Ramen and the broth was delicious probably one of the best I've had. Japanese beers available and vegan options . Will be back to try the breakfast items
Went to the Black Dog Gallery for brunch. Their menu seemed more of lunch kinda meals rather than brekkie kind. We had the Matcha pancakes. Absolutely recommend it. The portion is huge, I couldn't finish the whole thing. But it was so fluffy and delightful! The whole combination of Matcha, red bean, marshmallow, marscapone. Yum! Pretty keen to try out their ramen next time. Service was excellent, very friendly Japanese waitress.
great food. perhaps a bit slow to get food out, but all 3 dishes were great. great ambience, friendly service, authentic food. light not overly heavy food leaves you feeling good after leaving as opposed to needing to hit the gym asap.
I am a big fan of ramen. This is the only Japanese ramen that I return some many times. LOVE the spicy ramen with homemade pork belly. I am sure that u can not get this flavor in adelaide city.
Finally made it here, one of those places that stay in the back of your, I really must go there, mind!
I think this cute unique establishment needs to move to The Parade! It would go crazy nuts there, especially amongst the health conscious, Lorna Jane wannabee vegans, glutards, vegos, dairy free, fun free etc. This place is perfect!
Staff are caring, friendly and attentive. Bottle of water and glass was promptly bought to the table.
Was a little difficult to choose exactly what I felt like eating but went with the Ramen soup in the end, Hakodate Shio Ramen, sea salt seafood based soup. I asked the waitress what else is in this soup apart from the pork and noodles, answer was, egg as well, no vegetables, you have to add and pay for these. Base soup was $13.50 added spinach $2, chilli $1 I think (unusual to be charged for chilli I thought), I would have added some other ingredients, but this adds up fairly quickly. I was pretty happy when the soup arrived, looked great and tasted very nice. Had loads of spinach in it, plenty of noodles, but only a very small amount of pork, sliced very thin. This was a letdown after a promising start. The menu is small but interesting.
Definitely worth a try and I will return to try some more of the menu!
Following Black Dog Gallery on Facebook since it opened in December 2015, I (Amanda) being the ramen lover I am, had been looking for an opportunity to visit and finally 9 months down the long, busy track I finally made it! Visiting on a weekday while I was enjoying some well deserved annual leave, I am the one and only lucky customer for lunch. The menu is divided into all day breakfast and brunch ramen, which is suitable for the 7:30am to 4pm daytime opening hours.
We enjoy the coffees and cakes, it is slightly on the dear side for cakes but the staff are really nice and coffees are good. We shall come again for noodle bowls as when we passed by other lunching customers our eyes couldn't help but looking at the generous, piping hot bowls.
Beautiful and relaxing suburban Japanese cafe. Not far from city, probably approx 15-20mins from city. Plenty of parking on side streets. Parking on main road are all 1/2P. Cafe can be a bit small but table very well organised. Outdoor seating available.
Staffs - excellent service. The staff that served me was cool and super friendly. Very helpful with the menu and good recommendation. Moderately Fast service. One word for service - excellent!
Food - there are savouries and sweets all day breakfast. Must try - matcha pancake. Serving is quite big - definitely worth the value. Fluffy pancake with moderately strong matcha flavour. Pancake served with kuromitsu brown sugar syrup, sweetened red bean, whipped cream, edible flowers and fruits. Presentation was sensational, it is almost too pretty to cut into the pancake. The dish doesn't only look good, taste good too. Flavour combination is classic, you can't go wrong with matcha and red beans. They also served different kind of ramen. You can choose what to add on your ramen. E.g. Seaweed, spicy pork, egg, chilli paste, bamboo shoots and etc. soup base is not too salty and it tastes like the ramen I had at Tokyo. Authenticity 90%. Noodle is quite crispy - cook to perfection.
Drinks - good quality of coffee. Coffee is brewed perfectly. I prefer strong coffee so I order double shot latte. Latte art was beautiful as well. They also served green tea latte, that would be what I will be ordering next.
This has just been my favourite cafe. I will be back soon everyday if I could. Love the place, service, food and beverages. Highly recommended.
What a find! Probably one if the best ramen places in Adelaide! The soup flavours come very close to the ones in Japan. All the ramens come with char siu and soft boiled egg, i got the tokyo syo-yu ramen (soy based broth) and added some buttered corn and bamboo shoots. My partner got the tofu burger served with noodle salad accompanied with rice and miso. The staff are lovely and they also have a range of vegan dishes, japanese tea and sweet but healthy treats! Will be back to try the miso base broths and the other items on the menu!
We have been to this little cafe for a couple of times now. And they have not disappoint us at all. Really loved their Japanese classic breakfast and the matcha iced tea. They reminded me of the breakfast that we had in Japan - healthy fish with rice and miso soup. Their fusion brekkie, ramen salad and chazuke was very very good too! They get quite busy after 11:30am on weekends, so go earlier if you want to beat the crowds.
Fantastic place for some healthy Japanese food. Everything we've had so far has been awesome. I may be a little bias being a lover of all things Korean and Japanese. Unfortunately they do not take bookings so you just have to rock up and wait. The staff are great and meal sizes are good. Definitely worth a try.
Black Dog was completely as we expected it to be. Quirky modern Japanese ambience and decor, super friendly staff and a fairly traditional menu. The grilled salmon breakfast set was delicious! The rocket fuel blend of beans was a strong, full tasting coffee. Definitely will be back to try the ramen menu!

Japanese breakfast? Yes you heard me, this is what Black Dog Gallery is all about. When I think of Japanese food, I think of sushi, sashimi, tempura and a lot of rice. I rode past this cafe a few times but haven't had a chance to pay a visit until last weekend. It is located on Greenhill Road in the suburb of Tusmore.
Black Dog Gallery is a new contemporary Japanese cafe located in a small complex in the well to do suburb of Tusmore. The “Black Dog” part of the name is a reference to the owners pet, while “Gallery” has two different meanings. It refers to the local artwork displayed on one of the main walls which are available for purchase, but it also refers to the artistic presentation of the dishes on offer.
The overall dining experience was good but the flavours could have been more powerful.
The location is easily accessible with plenty of parking on the side street nearby. There are a few small outdoor tables with some indoor seating but not heaps.
The staff were very helpful, friendly, and attentive.
The food was good but as others have said there are better options at a similar price point in the city. We found the flavour profile to be missing something. There are plenty of options to choose from on the menu so we might try some other dishes next time and see how they go.
I've been here a few times and it's always a nice place to go on a cold winter's day. The food is reasonable, but in my opinion does lack something special to warrant a 5 star rating; combined with the inconvenient fact that they don't offer a vegan ramen dish. However, the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable and overall the dining experience is pretty good. Reasonably priced menu and a no frills dining experience. Overall pretty good.
AMAZING FOOD, great priced for the amount and quality. The staff are so nice and super helpful. This place is a gem.
This is consistently the best Ramen that I've ever had, this beats all of the ramen that I have eaten in Japan. This is my all time favourite restaurant in Adelaide now.
The broth is super consistent. My regular order is Tokyo Syoyu with the following - extra ajitama, kimchi, bean sprouts, 2x chilli paste. You can't go wrong!
Delicious ramen. Yummy. You get to add your favourite toppings.
Delicious local Japanese ramen cooked by the Japanese owner.
I love that the springy noodles, rich flavour soup with runny eggs and moderately fat char-siu.
It’s a quiet and comfortable small restaurant where is full of Japanese style!
Nice food, the dining area is small but cozy. Ramen here was good but so were some of the tapas, the atlantic salmon tapa was my favourite, it had crispy skin and a delicous sauce.
This is an excellent Japanese restaurant which features a wide variety of dishes. If you haven't tried Japanese and you'd like to try something other than sushi this is the place for you. Great attentive staff, a range of supporting drinks and a pleasant venue.
