Very pleasant experience here tonight in a group of seven. The restaurant is centrally located in the heart of the city.
We had the pan fried pork dumplings and crab claws for entree.
This was followed by fried rice, delicious spicy crispy fish with black bean sauce (did have a fair bit of spice), beef tenderloin on teppanyaki (very tender), braised potato beans and eggplant.
Service was friendly and quick with a smile.
Amazing Chinese food.. Spicy fish dish here is to die for. The servings are quite a lot.. worth the price! One of the best Chinese restaurant in Adelaide city.
Quite a different array of my standard Chinese food but still really enjoyable if you are craving something than sweet n sour pork. This restaurant is great for its Sichuan Cuisine and constantly pack with customers. The waiters are attentive. The environment is spacious and you have space between other people which is great. Would recommend the braised eggplant and potato. Garlic pork ribs. Beef and tofu hotpot. Chicken and chilli. There are lots more to try though
If there were a competition for big menus, this place would clean up. There is a point where after strolling through the bible for, I dunno, 3 months you eventually give up, point to something that looks nice and hope you believe it a half hour later.
It's the crucial thing I forgot between visits, twice. But alas, I actually like going back to this place because they have good food.
I was on a tight time schedule, was in between sound check and gig time so I had 90minutes to get fed. They fed me, it was tasty, relatively cheap but not BBQ City cheap - cleaner too. Prompt and efficient even when I went there with 8 - on a whim after the footy. Beware the hand towels, they're a lovely addition to the service we thought, especially after a day in the sun - until their $5 a pop was added to the bill... cheeky sods!
Me and my wife came here for a Friday evening dinner. Service was cheerful and quick. We ordered the spicy lamb cubes with cumin and corriander, steamed barramundi with ginger and spring onion, and stir fried cabbage.
The cabbage was fresh and well prepared/seasoned. The lamb was very tender, with Sichuan spices that left the taste buds wanting more. Very good accompanied with a beer. The barramundi was well prepared and tasty also. The waiter deboned the fish for us. It was a fresh fish from the tank.
Cheerful, inexpensive place that hit all the right notes for a quick bite on a Friday evening.

Best Restaurant, my absolute favourite. I love chilli and this is chillicious! Pork belly rolls with cucumber (cold dish) is my favourite ! And spicy fish soup.
Prompt service. Average food.. This was our second visit and I can say that the service has improved a lot. The staff are attentive and friendly and it wasn't difficult to find someone to tend to our needs. The spicy boiled fish was a bit bland but the other dishes we had were okay.
As authentic as any chinese restaurant in China (except the prices). Don't let the negative critics kid u. They must be foreigners. You'll notice this restaurant is full of mainland Chinese for a reason. Good chinese food!

Authentic Sichuan Style. Had 3 nice dishes and each were authentic to Sichuan cuisine. The tenderloin boiled in spicy sauce was most excellent. The Dan dan Mian was a bit watery than I prefer but tasty. App of cucumber was great cooler between bites.
I will be going back.
Authentic Chinese food not westernized...After china holiday this place is the only place we go to for authentic sichuan flavours..the cold beef and tripe is killer, spicy fish and the trotters are awesome. If you dont like hot food stay away and If your looking for honey chicken, beef and black bean, sweet and sour etc. dont bother
Spicy fish fillet. I have been here few times, nice place to catch up with friends. Everytime I must order spicy fish fillet, which was spicy and full of chinese herbs. Lots of chilli oil flow on the top of this dish, but it was not that scary. By the way, the garlic ribs was good as well, if you like strong garlic flavour.
Great stir fry veg!. Late dinner on a Tues night, had spicy fillet fish, stir fry greens w/ garlic, seafood dumplings with rice. All the dishes were tasty but the stand out was the stir fried greens, so fresh & full of flavour! can recommend this place for a Chinese fix!
The food was ok, I wouldn't say it was amazing! Lacked a little flavour. I have certainly had more authentic chinese on Gouger Street. Service was attentive and friendly..
Absolutely fantastic food. Went there once and had to come back a week later for more!! Every dish was so tasty. My wife is a vegetarian and there is plenty to choose from. Highly recommend this spot
I never write reviews but the meal I had tonight was AMAZING!! I had crispy skin chicken that was sooo good!! The steamed pork dumplings and my husbands Kung pao chicken were also very nice. The service was excellent even though it was very busy. If in Adelaide and craving good Chinese - head here!!!
We went there because of some chinese friend had recommended there. it really delicious andauthentic enough forfoodlover to try!
Top new(ish) entry to Gouger. This was out first visit to Ba Guo Bu Yi and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Went along based on the Urbanspoon reviews which were quite on the mark. The room is big and, as you would expect from a relatively new place, quite well-decorated. The toilet areas out the back are as scruffy as the rest on Gouger (is this a rule?!) but all ok. Service was prompt and the menus appealing. As a table of 7 Caucasians we got handed 7 single-page 'simple' menus but a couple of the full proper Sichuan menus, from which we ordered all our dishes. Everything we ordered was promptly delivered, very well put together and very fresh. Stand out dishes were the spicy lamb cubes, a cabbage stir-fry of some description and a mushroom stir-fry. We'll definitely be back to sample more from the very interesting menu! Recommended 8/10
Wow!!!!. What a fantastic place. I thought I knew good Chinese cuisine, but this place blew me away. The spicy fish dish was to die for and the pork buns were divine. Definitely the place to go for regional base Chinese cuisine, will definitely be back when I go back to Adelaide.
Visiting from interstate, we came across this restsurant on Gouger St which proved to be awesome - the food was great, the service was prompt & helpful! The restaurant was full, but they were still able to accommodate our group of 10 without a fuss. We had a mixture of traditional & usual Asian fare which was of a high quality & very delicious. The bill including a couple bottle of wines & drinks was very reasonable...a big thumbs up!!! Also a big shout to the lady with one eye - watch those yabbies!
Awesome place, refreshing change from same old Chinese food, more vibrant in coloured, fresh, well presented and service excellent. As an added bonus the wine list is also reasonably priced - well done and please open for lunch!
Terrific.. The best chinese restaurant on Gouger. A particularly good place to try Sichuan food for the first time, as the oil & peppercorns are more nuanced in these dishes, avoiding the painful chilli oil throat cough.
The absolute must of any Sichuan restaurant is Spicy fish, and Ba Guo Bu Yi's is the best.
It is more expensive than some of the other chinese restaurants, but you're not just paying for the atmosphere you're buying superior food, prepared by experts.
Excellent atmosphere. Had jellyfish, lemon chicken n beef chilli peanuts. Service was great n authentic.
Authentic chinese food. I have spent some time in China and this restaurant seems to serve more of the traditional Chinese dishes that I enjoyed rather than the standard westernised dishes found in so many places. Service was great. The restaurant is open, bright and clean.
Happy Chinese New Year everyone! Chinese New Year fell on February 10 this year and traditionally, the family reunion dinner is held on the eve. Unfortunately I haven't been able to be with family this year but Mr. Foodie decided we should do something anyway. Chinese New Year pretty much just involves eating and eating and some gambling and eating more. So we ate. I had to work late on February 9th Saturday night so I went to Chinatown/Gouger Street at about 9.30pm and was amazed at how festive it all was. The restaurants were full, lion dances going on and plenty of food, drinks and festivities to be seen. Most restaurants were packed out but we managed to find a seat at Ba Guo Bu Yi. I have often walked past this place wondering what the food was like and tonight I was pretty darn happy with it. Service was good, our waiter was patient and accommodating. We sat outside as we wanted to enjoy the atmosphere on the street. Ba Guo Bu Yi offers a lot of spicy dishes and Szechuan style fo
