I love the elephant walk, I always have. It’s a unique experience to dine privately but also so close to many. The lighting and mood of the restaurant set up a very romantic like environment. Service is not exactly fast however every dish I have ever tried has been amazing. I love this cool and quirky little spot and I can’t wait to go back again
Poppy has taken his flame to Elephant Walk many a time and hasn't been disappointed. Nothing in Adelaide quite compares to the cosiness and closeness you feel in one of their booths. Beverages are nice and the desserts are always lovely. Nothing more romantic than sharing a beautifully presented dessert in a dim candlelit booth on soft comfy lounges. Definitely recommended heading here with your partner for an intimate dessert experience.
I came here with my friend and we both were in love with the ambience and style of the place. It was sort of African/jungle themed with dim lighting and a cozy setting with a large collection of knickknacks and decor items. There is a lot going on, but it's still not overwhelming, so it looks awesome! It'd be a really cute location for a couple!
We ordered the vegan waffles with an apple pie filling topping & ice cream. It was about $14 and the waffle itself was the size of the palm of my hand... so not exactly great value for money in any regard, but it did taste wonderful!!
The staff were very friendly, I'd give them a solid 10/10 score!
Would come back just because they do have a few vegan options, but would give a higher score and recommendation if the serving sizes matched the price you pay. I'm not sure why some people feel the need to charge more for vegan food, especially when it's something pretty basic like waffles topped with cooked apple.
They also have some GF options and some savory dishes too :)
This is probably my fourth visit to elephant walk this year. That being said, I was blown away after my first visit in February with its cozy-private dining concept. The food back the was average, and probably masked by how i good I felt about the place. I revisited elephant walk throughout the year and yesterday would be my fourth visit.
The quality of the food had dropped tremendously. I'm not sure if it is because I'm no longer blown away by such a conceptual place or I'm actually tasting the food by itself and not allowing the surrounding to cloud my judgement.
I ordered the chocolate fudge and ice cream. It was dry :( so dry I believe if I made that at home, I wouldn't be serving to anyone. I also had the dirty chai, and being someone who loves strong tea and its bitterness, the chai was nothing but bitter with no fragrance. It was so disappointing that I changed my 5.0 rating down to a 3.5.
Such a romantic atmosphere for a date night or dessert catch up with a friend. Service is delightful. Dessert was good, not the best though. I still would come again to try the others. :)
My favourite dessert... BUT!!. My favourite dessert place, I love it! But unfortunately every time I ordered a coffee it was over heated, the milk is burned and smells awful!!
Best dessert place in Adelaide! My favourite of all times!
An Adelaide Institution. The Elephant Walk is an Adelaide Institution and I can see why. The menu is small but tasty and even has a couple of vegan/dairy free options. What really sold it for me was the set up, small cosy booths, low lights and a super lovely and enthusiastic waitress who was happy and eager to share her suggestions for how to make my waffles as delicious as possible. If you have many different tastebuds to cater for this may not be your place, but if a small menu with it's associated limited dietary options isn't an issue then definitely pay them a visit.
Cozy. Great for a date, cute booths.
Apple pie waffles are rad.
Excellent. Have come here numerous times and i am yet to be disapointed. Quality of food is excellent and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
Fantastic service, staff were friendly and helpful. We got the last salted caramel tart which was excellent! Will defiantly return.
Elephant Walk. Have tried this restaurant a few times and each time, although the chocolate craving is satisfied I leave thinking that the desserts are a little dated. Waffles, sundaes etc. served with little garnishes which 'do the trick' but compared to other places that have beautiful selections it is left a little lacking. The one bright point is that they easily cater with no fuss for Vegan and Gluten Free which is difficult to find and we have sat outside both times and enjoyed the atmosphere. I find the darkened inside a little claustrophobic, so wouldn't be able to spend long in there.
The desserts themselves are nothing spectacular. Tasty with generous portions even if it's an uninspired menu. However, the atmosphere of the place is amazing! Perfect for a date night.
Lovely place, delicious desserts! :) have been extremely satisfied every time I've been there. A must for dessert lovers
Loved it. Amazing atmosphere so different. I would go there again loved the fondue :p
Awesome. Great work on the vegan options and outstanding customer service. Will be paying many more visits in the future now that you have a page dedicated to vegan deserts. My only suggestion is that the seats are a little bit sinky although my girlfriend likes that.
Lovely. I hadn't been to The Elephant Walk for quite a while, and since that time I had become a vegan. I had heard that they now serve vegan options and was really hoping that my favourite late night coffee spot could cater for my requirements. I was not disappointed! They have a separate vegan menu, as well as having two vegan specials on the night. I had a vegan chocolate mud cake, my boyfriend had the vegan oreo sundae, our non vegan friends had the peanut butter sundae and the chocolate fondue. All were excellent. A special mention to the hot male waiter who was very friendly and helpful and fit the cafe's feel to a tee. Will return. Go Adelaide with the ever-increasing vegan options, love it!
I would like to say my experience tonight at the elephant walk was amazing, service was great, hot choc was great and the choc fondue was delicious! All round an amazing place. And the atmosphere, designe, lighting, it's just beautiful. Quite a romantic place also. Absolutely love it there!
An Adelaide institution.. The desserts themselves, whilst tasty, are a bit old school and not that remarkable - nut sundaes, banana splits ... you know, the sort of stuff that's been around for centuries.. You go to Elephant Walk not for the food, but for the overall experience. The atmosphere is indescribable. If you're with that special someone then you must, repeat MUST put a visit to Elephant Walk on your bucket list ... I'm sure that more than just coffee and ice cream has been spilled on the floors and chairs in some of the more initimate booths, just try not to think about that too much.
There's a reason there's usually a queue to get in most nights of the week.
Funky. Cute spot to have a warm beverage and dessert after dinner or partying. Stopped by last night for a hot chocolate and banana waffles, which were delicious.
Everyone loves the elephant walk!!! Waffles yummmmm!
Worth the Experience. The concept of a dessert place just opening from 8pm every night had me enthrawled. I'd never been to a specialist dessert restaurant so while in Adelaide i had to go.
Inside is very cosy, mood lighting and secluded little booths. The couches are so comfortable you just want to lean back and fall asleep.
The menu has an array of puddings, waffles, ice cream, brandy snapps and also does plenty of hot drinks and spiders.
After going through the menu we decided on the banana and chocolate waffles, white chocolate and rasberry waffles and the chocolate pudding.
The waffles came out and looked very impressive - although they are hard and cooled as opposed to soft and warm (which i expected) they were still good. The white chocolate and rasberry waffles were one of the specials and was the pick of our orders.
The chocolate pudding was pretty standard but still tasted pretty damn good.
Our bill was $39 and it was easy to sit back and chat in this little hive of activity for a few hours. The place was flat out on a sunday night and for good reason.
I would recommend checking this place out if not for a nice dessert for the experience alone.
A good date spot.
Dessert place for couples. The place is what you call tiny, dark and packed. It's somehow 'seductive' yet fun. Staff were friendly and desserts were amazing.
I might go there if I visit Adelaide again.
Very much a 'couples' place or for very small groups. We went in a group of 4 and they split us up into pairs because they didn't have room! Cosy atmosphere and amazing desserts
The perfect desserts.... The elephant walk is a great place to go to have dessert. It is by far the best place to have dessert in Adelaide. The ice cream sundaes are beautiful and large, and it has a amazing atmosphere! It's almost like Heaven on earth.
Only when you actually go there and try it will you know what I'm talking about.
Not a restaurant. This place is not a restaurant. It is however the best coffee shop in South Australia to take a date to without a doubt. The coffee and Chocolate Sundaes are the best you will get and each booth is soft furnishings and intimate mood lighting. Makes you feel you are in Casablanca or Cairo. Go out for food and come here for dessert.
Snuggle and hot chocolate, yes please!. The Elephant Walk is quite romantic, I recommend this venue for a date. The hot chocolate is nice. This venue is unique, there aren't many places around Adelaide like this. The sweets could definately be better, but it's the experience of sharing with someone which makes it special.
One of the best places in Adelaide for sure. Such great atmosphere, food, couches. Everyone must go there once. Opens at 8
Cool after dark. A cosy little cafe on Melbourne street opening 8PM nightly. It has a range of sweets some savouries and a range of hot and cold bevvies. Be prepared for a short line up though...
They say an elephant never forgets. As far as memories go, there’s one place that has continued to be a favourite of mine over many years: the Elephant Walk, an Adelaide dessert institution. The Elephant Walk has been operating for 27 years, on Melbourne Street North Adelaide, and I’ve certainly made a number of visits over that time. The interior has changed little and the menu has gone through a slight (modern) evolution. Tonight we decided to share our love of the Elephant Walk with our eight-year-old son and we weren’t disappointed.
