Dough dishes up some of the very best baked goods at Central Market. I purchased 2 x large tarts today; the lemon, and chocolate salted caramel. These were a 10/10 + 11/10 respectively. Absolutely perfect shortcrust with moorish fillings and a bargain at $25 for both.
While travelling from Melbourne...
This place has hands down the best tarts!!! Custard, Salted Caramel, Chocolate or Nut... you name it and they have nailed it. Base is fresh and crispy. Filling is balanced and smooth. The other baked goods are of good quality. I am deeply impressed and satisfied!
Dough has amazing bread and pastry offerings. If you're looking for something a bit different bread wise Dough is a good place to start. The staff are always good for guidance and they will refer you to other market stalls for necessary bread related condiments!
Dough's display of variety of dessert and bread are just mouth watering. It is one of those eye catching display that stops you from your tracks. I have tried their sourdough bread, the lemon tart - oh so tangy and just amount of lemon inside a delicious tart Base. And their French flan, I just love the custardy taste and the vanilla that you can taste and see in that custard. The Base is just the right amount of flakiness. I can't wait to try more of their bread and dessert. So far, so good!
Dough is probably a carb lover's dream come true. The display is impressive - rows of artisan breads, pastries, muffins and other sweet treats. I stood there for a good few minutes trying to decide what to get.
I ended up getting a Savoury Muffin, which ended up being filled with bits of bacon, and what I identified as spinach perhaps? as well as some sort of cheese. It was a definitely a dense muffin, so if you're after something light and fluffy this is probably not for you. The flavours were well balanced and I didn't find it too salty from the bacon bits. The muffin was a bit greasy from the cheese, though.
I also got a Raspberry Brioche Bun. It was extremely similar to a donut in terms of texture (not sure if it was fried?). It was super soft and fluffy in the middle and had a delicious raspberry filling in the middle. The outside was coated with a dusting of granulated sugar to give it that extra bit of sweetness, because the dough itself isn't very sweet at all. This was definitely my favourite of the bunch.
I also got a cute little Madeleine cookie. It was a good madeleine, but nothing mind-blowing.
Overall I'd say this would probably be one of the best places in the city to get baked goods. Keen to return to try their bread loaves.
Best almond croissant that i have ever tasted. Moist and flaky at the same time. Perfect balance of savoury and sweet. Always the first to sold out though
A pastry shop called Dough, located next to The Smelly Cheese Shop, attracted my attention as it's always crowded and the customers simply never stop coming! We managed to secure their newest creation, Golden Gaytime Cheesecake, an Apple Tart and Lemon Tart. Their cheesecake was the greatest attention stealer ever with smooth, luscious, and decadent combination of chocolate, caramel and honeycomb. I'm going to close my eyes, cover my ears and pretend there are no calories in these beauty.
Whenever I'm in the central market I have to make a stop by Dough and buy some eclairs! Seriously the best! Chocolate, hazelnut, salted caramel and raspberry. They used to also do a rose water flavoured one. Their strawberry tart is also a winner!
Great pains aux chocolat, sourdough bread and baguette. A pleasant surprise, try their croissants with a coffee from the barista across Dough or their baguettes with some cheese from the Smelly Cheese shop next door - perfect match!
I've come here for bread for ages and it's always been great, don't go anywhere else for it. But I just had a croissant and don't bother. Thought they'd be the same standard but it tasted like it came from a supermarket. Best for bread, not for croissants.
The bread tarts and pastries are all sublime my fave stall at the ACM and always friendly helpful staff
Carb goodness. The white rye is delicious!
They make the best tart that I have ever eaten. The pastry is perfect. Unfortunately I am always disappointed when I try tarts from anywhere else. I'm also addicted to their cheese rolls.
Best bread I found in Australia !
Deeeeeeeeeeeeelicious!. The staff are super friendly and so efficient, I had a really hard time not ordering everything!
I settled for the Lemon Curd Tart and it was so delicious! NYOM!
First stop the strawberry tart :) Buttery biscuit-like pastry which reminded me of shortbread, filled inside with vanilla cream and decorated on top with tart strawberries. What actually won me over was the pastry – so much awesome ( ꒪Д꒪)ノ
