July 2016 enjoyed Amarin tonight, excellent food, Friendly and efficient staff, we tried Satay and spring roll entrees and Duck Beef and Chicken mains! Highly recommend
Amarin Thai is visually appealing inside and out! The staff are very attentive, welcoming and professional. I went with my parents and we have tried a lot of Thai places in Adelaide, but most have acquired a "western" taste to it. BUT, this Thai restaurant is fantastic.
MUST TRY..
Pandan chicken (8 pieces): these tasted fantastic! I have never had pandan chicken that has been so moist or so flavorsome. Not to mention they are a really good size, and they keep the skin on so its all just delicious.
Masaman curry: beautiful and authentic. Meat was super tender and just falling apart.
Duck curry (Kaeng Ped Pet Yang): just like the one I had in Thailand last year. amazing.
Deep fried Pla Larb Barramudi: recommend deep fried any day. The fish was deboned, fresh, and the sauce worked perfectly.
Note: the curry servings may look small, but if you've got a few they are the perfect size. Oh and the roti on the side is such a good idea!
Would definitely come back and recommend! It's also in the Entertainment Book, which offers I think 25% of the total bill!
Delicious! Well made, authentic and fresh tasting cuisine. A pleasant dining atmosphere with friend my staff to boot. Will definitely be back!
Amarin is amazing! Don't be put off by the short-lived Amarin Thai 2 on Rundle Street - the original O'Connell Street version is great. I love the choo-chee, which they happily make vegetarian. So tasty. The decor is a little outdated but is somewhat charming and adds to the cosiness of the restaurant The staff are so lovely, too.
Boutique restaurant, authentic Thai food, unpretentious, just lovely.. I was visiting Adelaide on business with my colleague and we happened to stumble across Amarin after walking up and down the main strip of North Adelaide looking for somewhere to eat. Amarin is on one of the side streets where we parked our car. After taking a peek at all the other restaurants, we returned back here and I'm glad we did.
We ordered the Fish Star dumplings (prawn and chicken dumplings in mild curry seafood bisque style sauce), and the Miang Kum (roast coconut, prawn garnished in lime served with ginger, and cashew nut wrapped in iceburg lettuce or betel leaves).
Both were beautifully presented and delicious. Unfortunately the betel nut leaves must've been out of season so our version came with the lettuce leaves. But the flavour of the roasted coconut prawn and crunch of the cashew nuts was just perfect. We really enjoyed it. The dumplings too, were delicious.
For main we had the Masaman Beef Curry and deep fried Barramundi with lime, ground roasted spice, chilli and coriander.
The flavours of the barramundi were perfectly balanced. My colleague isn't accustomed to spicey food, and we both agreed that the chilli was just right. It wasn't overly spicey like many restaurants do, and it didn't overpower the flavour of the other ingredients. The waiter carved the fish in front of us which was a nice touch.
The Masaman curry had those delicious chunks of slow cooked beef you'd hope for as well as the rich sauce and peanuts for texture. It felt and tasted like a home cooked meal rather than what you might get in a fancy or more expensive venue.
In summary, we really enjoyed it. The food was terrific, and the whole vibe was relaxed, casual and the staff were lovely. I can definitely Amarin to others who might prefer a casual but authentic Thai meal over something you might get in a trendy or more expensive restaurant.
Best Thai food in Adelaide. Alway great service too.
We regularly get take-away from here and it's awesome. Choo chew prawns and satay chicken are fantastic!
I liked the pad thai there - it was savoury and tangy in all the right ways. The tamarin flavour came through really nicely, but they weren't all that generous with the proteins in the dish.
The entree platter was sort of meh. Overall it seemed to lack authenticity. Each individual component was plain unless drowned in sweet chilli sauce but that wouldn't be the point, would it?
The duck curry was unique to try, but again, nowhere near thumbs up worthy. It was tart and had some pineapple in it.
Drinks were served in small glasses.
I did like the pad thai but I'm not sure if I'd return for it alone.

Food was tasty, average/expected prices for Thai in Nth Adelaide, service good. A nice casual weeknight dinner spot.
Amazingly good food. Every dish was delicious. Loved the green curry. Very busy with great atmosphere. Going back asap.
Intimate Setting. Lovely Thai food in a delightful setting. Intimate dining with atmosphere. Menu and food are spot on, with a large selection to cater all taste buds. Service is good, and waitresses are very sweet.
Busy!. A packed house is usually a good sign and it was this visit too. Despite the packed tables our dishes were served within a reasonably short time. Staff were on their toes and quick to respnd to our needs. Fresh flavoursome food.
All 16 guests very satisfied!. We went there on Saturday night for my partner's birthday as it's our regular take away choice for Thai (despite living close to Regent Thai as well). We changed our booking several times due to increases in numbers and then a few last minute cancellations and they just dealt with the changes without any issues. They suggested the banquet as we had 16 on the table and although we had 4 vegetarians and 2 who chose their own meals instead of the banquet the service was excellent and the food well timed to come out. Everyone loved the food (and there was more than enough) and at the end of the evening our waitress even brought out a deep fried banana and icecream with 3 candles for my boyfriend and turned the lights down whilst we all sang happy birthday. It was a lovely touch and I didn't pre-arrange this. We always go there anyway and will continue.
I went to Amarin Thai on new year's eve because Regent Thai was booked out. That about sums up my experience too. The food was good but not great and the service was fine but a bit disorganised. No real complaints but Regent Thai is definitely still my first choice for Thai in Adelaide.
Nice location, ok food. Food - tasty but not the best in Adelaide.
Service - slightly unfriendly and meals took a long time to come out
Would come back but not our favourite
I had been recommended to try this restaurant as it would not disappoint, they were right! I was very impressed with the food and thought the price was very reasonable for a north adelaide restaurant! My only criticism would be that it took them too long to come and take our order, and a couple who came in 15 minutes after us were served first. Also the wine was very overpriced especially considering we ordered a bottle of moscato and it came to $35. Very friendly service, with staff who had a good knowledge of the menu as they were able to add suggestions. Will most defiantly be heading back here!
All time favorite. Amarin is one of those hidden treasures. Great authentic dishes and service. Try the Choo Chee Pla and the Padthai. Tried the duck, mushroom and basil dish and it was superb. Oh and I nearly forgot the Seastar and the fried salt and pepper bean curd. BYO is appreciated as well, only $12 a bottle. We don't come here enough.
7/10. Lovely little cosy nook for a group dinner - just bring your small change and your Year 5 maths skills, as they don't do separate bills.
From memory, the dish most of my friends got was the Choo Chee Chicken. Naturally, I finished their plates off. Bit spicier than what I normally like, but gorgeous. I got the duck (the dish with no number), which was nice, but not my favourite. A vego dish WAS my favourite (another of my friends' leftovers that I took care of), but I have no idea what it was!
Dessert Junkie ordered dessert and was very impressed. Nice service. From memory, the menu states corkage is pretty pricey? But don't hold me to that.

WOO!. Awesome thai food, splendid atmosphere and extremely quick service! Fantastic experience all round!
A Favourite!. This is one of our favourite places to eat in North Adelaide. The service is always excellent, the food is fresh, tasty and the servings are very generous. There are no long waits for meals and all food for the table is generally served at once which is very rare to find these days. Great for large groups but also for a date night!
Great Thai. My favourite Thai restaurant in Adelaide. Non pretentious prices and dishes. Always a joy dining here. My favourite is the sea star dumplings, red duck curry and thai fried rice. Food is always flavoursome and presently beautifully. Highly recommend.
Good ambience, great food, slow service. This is one of my favourite Adelaide restaurants. The restaurant is just the right size to allow a good ambience without being too loud, nor too claustrophobic. Food is absolutely excellent with a good variety of dishes to cater for every taste, including fussy teenagers or children. Prices are extremely reasonable. Best to book several days in advance, especially for weekend evenings as they are always full. Waitresses are delightful and beautifully dressed in Thai "uniform". The only criticism we do have is that the service is often excrutiatingly slow and when dining with a large group, dishes can appear at haphazard times, leaving some diners either with cold food or having almost finished their course by the time the last plates arrive at the table. However, we allow for this and have become used to it; going with the flow is best and if you're having fun, who cares?
Best Service in Adelaide. The food at Amarin is fantastic, but what sets it apart is the efficient and friendly staff, who always provide fantastic service.
Wendy, Hayley and I went for dinner on a Saturday night, only calling to book in the late afternoon. Lucky we did, there were no spare tables, all were reserved. The staff were friendly and efficient, some were a little awkward, it was a warm evening and the restaurant was comfortable but not cool. We shared dim sims for entree and Hayley had some small tears as she thought thats all we were getting, which was kind of cute. The dim sims were good, the freshness of the veggies discernable even though they were deep fried. Mains were shared, Pad Thai, Masaman beef curry and Goong Sam Rose (deep fried prawns). All mains were very good. The Pad Thai had plenty of meat, chicken and prawn, not just noodles, the beef fell apart in my mouth with a delicious mild gravy and the prawns were fantastic, not overcooked which would be easy when deep frying, the sauce spicy but not too sweet and there was no crispy basil left on the dish by the time we were done. The servings were generous and overall it was all well priced. We will go back sometime for sure.
There isn't anything outstanding about this eatery, the food, the service and the atmosphere were ok but not memorable. The prices were reasonable so I you could say we got what we paid for. There was a reasonable wine selection however when I asked for a port with my coffee I was told they didn't have any port when my coffee arrived so did two bottles of port for me to choose from, I suspect someone took the initiative and made a trip to the local bottle shop. We found an error in bill which got sorted out without any hastle. The wait staff were cheerful however a bit more attention to detail would be a plus. Would I go back? Yes, based on my experience with th port and their willingness to correct the billing error I think they deserve another visit afterall we got value for money.
Great food and ambience at a good price
