In the next instalment of TPTGLIAC – Tiny Places to get Lunch in Adelaide CBD (OK so the name needs some refinement) – I would like to introduce Mamachau. Located down near the corner of King William and Pirie Street, this little almost hole in the wall eatery is here to deliver some of the best bao you could ask for.

Mamachau has been part of the Adelaide food scene for awhile now. They're pretty famous for their Bao, so one lunch time, we thought we'd head on down to see what else they had to offer. The menu is quite large now, including rice bowls, salads, snacks and other specials which appear to rotate with the seasons.

My favourite lunch place in the CBD! Reasonably priced and delicious. Especially love their Asian tacos & lotus root chips

But don't go there, because I want all the food for myself thanks

Nice place with some interesting food. Tried the Pork and KFC Baos. The pork was on the dry side and the KFC baos need more sauce. Overall, not too bad and worth a try.

Quick and great service... Always with a friendly smile.

The food Ive tried is delicious, fresh and well presented.

The food is always consistently good... I love all the baos soya beans and the taro chips taste fantastic and CRIPSY. Can be very addictive!

Their fresh iced tea is so refreshing and my friends love the well priced Vietnamese filtered iced coffee

Definitely a place I recommend you try if you are around the area or if you ever see them at Fork on the Road! You won't be disappointed

I first discovered Mamachau’s baos at Fork On The Road and I’ve been in love ever since. There was always a long line up at their food stand so I was delighted when they opened up a permanent store in the CBD. Now I was able to get my bao fix anytime I wanted. Mamachau were the first to bring baos to Adelaide. I’ve been to a few places that make baos and never really liked them. Other places were always dense and stodgy.  Mamachau make the best baos in Adelaide. They are the lightest, fluffiest, pillowy soft baos with various flavour combinations.

Amazing! The best bao's a man can get. I really do enjoy their food. The Pork belly and KFC bao's are to die for. Very reasonably priced as well. I always look forward to going to Mamachau's. Can't wait for my next visit. Highly recommend making the trip to the city to this fine Vietnamese eatery. Thumb up, definitely worth an eat

Finally have a job working in the city!! Woo Hoo!
So after hearing about Mamachau for ages from friends with a city job, had to make this one if my first places to check out.

15 bucks for the big meal deal is the way to go for a taster of all the good stuff. Had the Pork Belly, Tofu and KFC chicken.

Yum yum and yum what a great way to go for lunch, fresh, made on the spot, fresh crunchy salads and just the right little sauce to compliment....and you pillowy little bao buns, oh how I love thee. 2 sides to choose with the 15 meal..., I think you need just one and that's the lotus chips. Don't miss them.

4 stars only at this stage as I need the great food to be repeatable, so I'll try again! Just the small meal, 2 bao lotus chips and a drink is the perfect lunch size.

Extra seating outside would be great, but it is a tiny little shop so understandable... I do hope that there is a "special" bao every one in a while just to mix things up!

One of the best lunch spots in the city. The Pork belly Bao is probably the best one in Adelaide. The Fried chicken is also nice. Cold rolls are unique and not a stock standard range like most Viet lunch places

I had the Pork Belly and Korean Style Fried Chicken (KFC) Baos for lunch. The buns were perfectly cooked and the filling flavours were pretty delicious. Best thing is they were freshly made in no time at all. Perfect for a city lunch when at work.

A nice quite hidden away place in the Adelaide CBD. It is worth the walk to Mamachau because their bao's are some of the best in the CBD. With plenty of flavours to mix and match, its a great place for a snack or even lunch.  Try out their KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) its absolutely amazing! The pork belly meat in their bao are cooked to perfection where the crisp skins just melts in your mouth in all its juicy glory. Absolute must try for all bao lovers out there.

Cute little hole in the wall with yummo korean street food. Give the Korean Fried Chicken Rice Box a go. It's definitely not the healthiest option on the menu but my goodness it's good, rice, a coleslaw like salad and fried chicken all layered in a takeaway box and topped with kimchi mayo.

We saw their menu offering laksa and noodle soup driving past. Once in the store a love heart to the left of KFC Asian Taco seemed to call my name. 'Xave' it shouted as I inhaled a breath and asked for the taco. The friendly chinaman smiled at me, she knew exactly what I was in for. As my taco arrived with beautiful kimchi mayo sprinkled on top of Asian 'slaw' and fried chicken. You beauty I thought, as I dived in to take my first bite. I was hesitant about the place at first but by the time I had finished my taco, I had rid any previous negative thoughts about mamachau, and now consider it home.

Staff all smiles on their faces because the food is amazing!! So many gluten free and vegie options that's healthy and packed full of flavor! No more greasy burgers and Chinese noodles for me!! But be careful.. It's addictive, I spend my change on my baos everytime I walk by : D

Unsure but willing to try again. I had the KFC chicken rice dish and was rather disappointed with the amount of chicken, three little pieces and not enough sauce given the amount of rice. The chicken was tasty though and I tried the lotus chips which were savoury and pleasant.

Oh Adelaide, how I adore your food trucks! They conveniently gather together on the odd occasion for an event called Fork on the Road, which is where I tried Mamachau’s incredible bao. At only $3.50 each they felt like a real steal, and we picked two of the three flavours on offer to try. I had the KFC (Korean fried chicken) bao, with kimchi mayo and Asian coleslaw. The chicken was to die for! Crisp, fresh and tasty, it was definitely the winning choice, with incredibly soft meat inside the fried (but not oily) skin. The kimchi mayo didn’t add as much spice as I expected, but there was plenty of self-serve Sriracha sauce for extra chilli. The slaw was packed in and the bao was springy and not too dense. We also tried the master stock pork belly b

Seeing Ippudo’s and Momofuku’s pork bun I’ve always been curious about what they tasted like and it finally arrives for us in the form of Mamachau. Mamachau called these buns “Asian tacos” which confused me - it really isn’t a taco but rather a steamed Chinese bun. My favourite was the K.F.C (Korean Fried Chicken) with a warm mantou soft bao hugging the tender chicken with a crispy earth shattering batter. The sour kimchi and kewpie-like mayo hybrid was slathered onto the bun with crunchy fresh veggie bites. K.F.C – Korean fried chicken, Asian slaw, kimchi mayo Although the K.F.C feed me bowl was not the best looking dish out there (I guess it’s kinda hard when you’re in a box) but made for a tasty lunch. It had everything in the K.F.C Asian taco but with rice instead of the bun :) K.F.C. Feed Me Bowl The master-stock pork belly “Asian taco” had a slice of soft pork belly covered in hoisin sauce and topped with sour pickled veggie and fresh bursts of coriander. It wasn’t the pick of th

I've been wanting to get my hands on one of these Baos or Asian Tacos from Mamachau since the beginning of the hype. I don't think the hype will ever really die down because I went, I ate, I want to eat some more. It was good. Located on the corner of King William Street and Pirie Street (facing Pirie Street), it's a cute vibrant little place. A perfect CBD lunch stop.

Tried Mamachau for the first time - the decor and the menu takes a modern vibrant spin on Asian cuisine. Had the Korean fried chicken rice bowl - fresh, healthy, tasty, and loved the sauce.

We had a work lunch that was catered by the wonderful Mamachau! Everything was super delicious! Great options for vegans and vegetarians too. But I have to say their Korean fried chicken is one of the best 😅. The steamed baos were just amazing 😍🤤. Highly recommended!

This food was amazing they really know how to make things delicious from baos, to salads, and their chicken wings are so tasty. Nothing disappointed and even better was their service. Would be ideal for catering as their spreads are impressive. Definitely drop by and get some take away.

I have tried some of their dishes. And I gotta say, it’s worth paying for their food. The chicken 🍗 rice bowl🍚 came with all the veggies and the chicken that tasted like KFC with the sauce on top of it. I basically go to these places for lunch and Mamachau is one of the good options in this place.

What can I say that hasn't already been said about Mamachau! Using fresh ingredients to prepare some of the most delicious meals the CBD has seen, if you haven't already been here then do yourself a favour and check it out. Renown for their legendary baos, don't forget out about their rice and salad dishes and recently added Korean fried chicken wings. Highly recommend the spiced lotus root chips and kimchi rice balls as a side or snack!
