Visited Saracens for after work Friyay drinks and it was packed which in turn meant it was extremely acoustic and noisy.. a few footy goers along with many other after work groups. We seen an antipasto platter come out and it looked great so we had to have one! Was okay but probably looked better than it tasted, the arancini balls were the best part. For dins we ordered wood oven pizzas and they were delicious...thin crispy base with refined yet tasty toppings.
Schnitzel was very generous sizing and the pepper sauce was a good consistency. Very nice venue would recommend for anyone who loves quality pub meals.
Been here a few times. We had some pizzas last time that were pretty good. The chips are crispy! Plenty of them and super crunchy!
Pretty poor range of beers on tap with only 1 hoppy beer (thankfully local)
The female staff have always been super-friendly. Really nice! Every one of them lovely.
The male staff should let the females have their shifts or at least learn from them about providing a pleasurable experience. If it's a drag to serve people, learn to wash some dishes.
I like the fit out. Plenty of natural light. Nice beer garden.

Having worked near the Saracens Head Hotel for over 14 years, I (Amanda) have partaken in many group work lunches and after work drinks at this establishment over time. The food has always been your classic pub style fare with the added bonus of the outdoor wood oven, producing a point of difference with this style of pizza over other pubs in the area. Today we were invited to the Saracens Head Hotel to experience the new menu that the new Head Chef has creatively put together. All food and beverages were provided on behalf of the Saracens Head Hotel.

Food was excellent would definitely recommend the food, however the service was terrible. I ordered wings for myself I requested the blue cheese sauce to not be put on the plate due to a serious food allergy. Sure enough it was on the plate, when I asked the server to remove it and explained why it can't be on my plate she said but it is good and the original server hadn't made note of it and walked away.
Saracens Head Hotel is a popular and stylish pub located in the Adelaide CBD serving many classic dishes with a contemporary twist. The venue is beautifully understated with exposed brick walls and rich dark wood furnishings. Industrial light fittings and splashes of white paint give the place a modernised touch.
Saracens Head is a pub located on Carrington Street, in the quieter part of the CBD. Set in a double storey character building, customers are greeted by the main bar as you walk through the main entrance. The interior is a clever mix of old and new with a modern dining area that looks into the beer garden. The menu is modern Australian with starters, pizzas, mains and your classic pub grub.
A decent portion of delicious food served quickly.
Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff and an attractive dining area :)
Shared the pan-fried chicken breast on the bone and roasted veg pizza and they were perfect.
The place was good overall. The ambience was pretty decent. The pizzas were good. We tried the all meat and smoked chicken. Service was not up to the mark though. They can improve on this aspect. Overall a good experience.
Bye bye budgie. Went there last Friday for a farewell. Can recommend the eye fillet. Eighty of us turning up did not overwhelm the staff (we pre-ordered) and everyone was fed and watered. Compared to what passes in Adelaide for pub service, high recommended.
I like this pub and the menu - there is some good options available eg. Wood oven pizza, and a decent wine list to match. Avoid the Fish & Chips though - definitely frozen - and very very dry.
Quickly becoming my new favourite pub! So much to like - nice wine list, menu is super, great vibe, trivia on Tuesdays, party crowd later in the week.
Confusing but will be back. The Saracen is a great spot! The layout seems to be a strange one but it works for this place. They have there own wood oven which is great to see and their food while like a pub has it’s own little twists to it,. We ventured here last week:
Good - The pizza’s, they are always good here. This time we got the Spicy Chorizo & Salami one and its great. The base is so crispy while the toppings were just right.
Not-So Southern – We also had the Southern Style Chicken which was a special on the night... it was a marinated chicken breast served over polenta with a capsicum relish. I don’t know what this was... im unsure what the cusine was here. Southern Style Chicken sounds like American deep south, but this wasn’t that. Was it itallian? The polenta would suggest that but that chicken marinate was not itallian. It was a confusing one. The chicken was a tad dry and the polenta wasn’t polenta, it was crumbly and wasn’t the smooth texture polenta should be.

Will I be back?: I will, look they tried something different with the chicken... for me it didn’t work but the pizza was amazing and ordinarily the pizza’s are great!
The slider burgers literally slid off my board into my mouth, so delicious!!
TOP SPOT FOR A GREAT MEAL. The food at the Saracens is great and can be described as high end pub grub although the prices are more than reasonable. I’ve eaten here a number of times including with larger groups of people and no one has been disappointed. The refurb has turned this old pub into a fantastic place to dine and with the addition of the outdoor wood oven you can also have get tasting pizzas. My personal favourite is the Saracens schnitzel which you pay a little extra for but it’s well worth it.
Went there for lunch today, had the beef schnitzel veg & chips and a woofired lamb pizza. Food was good, Prices not too bad $50 for both of us with one pint of beer, a bit more than what we were expecting to spend but at least the food was yummy. Beef Schnitzel was tender, chips good not cooked in old oil. Veges were fresh and cooked perfectly. Pizza base was really good, lamb tender too. Menu on Urbanspoon needs updating as it's old prices have gone up and menu changed
Been there are a few time. Always happy with the quality of the food and service. Happy to recommend.
We have the salmon totally amazing. The King Henry pork was beautifully cooked in the outside wood oven, service was good not over top which suits the style of the place. FINALLY a pub that hasn't tried to hard and over modernized the place, really nice feel. Not cheap but as the saying goes you get what you pay for.. Will be back probably have to book when word gets out.
Best Steak n Red. Get the lads together make sure everyone orders the rib eye steak and wak a bottle of red from the Schwarz Wine Co on the table and watch your friendship status rise! You will be there best mate forever!
Unexpectedly good!. This backstreet pub has had a great revamp - feels inviting, modern but with charm, with exposed brick walls a nice touch. Great menu and decent wine list - lots of choice. Salt and pepper squid was lovely, as was the wagyu burger and prawn salad. Serves were much larger than expected too. Would love to try the wood-fired pizzas - they looked delicious. Will be back.
Pleasant surprise. To be honest, I was not expecting much of this place. I think all of us tend to evaluate restaurants and dishes based on our previous experience. I am fortunate to have lived in one of the greatest cities in the world when it comes down to food. And unfortunately I find hard to get something more than the average in Adelaide.
Anyway, Saracens Head was a pleasant surprise. It's a cosy place with a small beer garden. They have a wood oven in the alfresco area which they use to prepare some dishes besides the pizzas. The problem here is that it's not linked to the kitchen, so they have to walk in the dining area to get to the kitchen all the time.
I've ordered the 'King Henry Pork Rib Eye' which was baked in the wood oven. It was the best pork I have had in the city, very tender and baked to perfection and it matched perfectly to the pear chutney. However the fat part which was supposed to be crispy crackling was a bit chewy. The rosti was very well seasoned and very tasteful. Overall a great dish.
Will come back to try other dishes and maybe pizza (still in search for an outstanding one).

Now how come I didn't know that this pub existed? I must have driven straight past it a few times. I wanted to dine there one Sunday night, however it was so busy that there was no tables for me. I was able to go back the Sunday after after reserving a booking.
As you would be aware from our reviews by now – our ultimate preference is coarse and slightly pink beef but this turned out just nice.
The tie up with the hot chicken project is amazing! Went to grab some chicken and a few beers, solid tap selection and the inclusion of zero alcohol beer on tap is nice. Friendly service.
As to the chicken, hands down one of the best chicken burgers I’ve ever had (crispy skin one). hHeat level is a bit oversold, had a few ‘evil’ tenders and they were more than manageable.
Very enjoyable street party at the Saracens Head with live music and a variety of craft beers, gin and rum. There wasn't any cider, which was a shame, but the chicken was great and the fries were crispy and well seasons. They have converted the pokies room into a proper gaming room with 2 pool tables, pinball and arcade games - much more family friendly.
Having had The Hot Chicken Project many times in Geelong I went with a lot of excitement and was hyping it up to my friends and I wasn’t disappointed. The HCP pop is just as good as in Geelong, the fried chicken i juicy, tender and full of flavour. The spices are spot on and taste e exactly as I know it. It really is great to see there has been nothing skipped including the menu and the baskets you eat from. Speaking to one of the staff members I found out of the chefs were over from Geelong ensuring the quality of the product! Certainly not something I would have every week (even though I could easily!) I will be making a few visits and hope it can stay around for a lot longer!!
Great fried chicken! Tasty, juicy, crispy, everything you want in a fried chicken. Plus pickles!
Very cool and modern looking pub. the Saracens head has a very nice selection of beer. The male toilets were flooded but I'm sure that's not a regular thing. Unless that's part of an upcoming pool feature? Great for a pint in a laid back atmosphere.
