Review Meesu Vegetarian Kitchen - Adelaide

Anubis
The staff were absolutely wonderful, informative, friendly, and there was a huge menu to choose from! There was quite a long wait as they were pretty busy when we went, but the drinks were lovely while we waited. I love that a vegetarian can order without worries here, and all you need to do is ask for your order to be vegan, and they'll take care of the rest! I can't say I recommend the chicken burger, it doesn't have a lot of flavour and the spongy bread-like texture of the patty was very off-putting. The crumbling was nice though. The "mozzarella sticks" were creamy and tasty, but don't bite into them expecting stretchy cheese. They're quite soft. Overall a lovely experience, I'm gonna try something else on the menu next time though!

Wow! We stumbled onto this but what an amazing find. Everything vegetarian with vegan options. And the Americana style dishes are just great. Their drinks range of house made sodas are also worth trying The location elevated above Adelaide Arcade with views over Rundle mall are lovely. And the interior a fun mix of 60’s furniture and older 1890s architecture of Adelaide Arcade Food was fast and service was good.

A friend suggested we go here for lunch, was not aware it was a vego restaurant. Pleasantly surprised, ordered the cajun salad and it was delicious. The fried chicken was really tasty, once you got over the texture of it, kind of bread like. Tried the soda too, was nice and they had a variety of different flavours that you wouldn’t normally get from a softy. Service was friendly and food came out nice and fast

What a find. Ordered the onion rings and they were amazing. A must have if you are here. We also had the cheeseburger and the Baron burger and both were delicious. Highly recommend dropping in.

An staple for vegans and vegetarians of Adelaide. The onion rings are absolutely compulsory for every visit, and make sure to try the house-made sodas! The bandito burger is my favourite, and the vegan chicken fingers are great. The main downside is the service, which almost always takes more than 20 minutes to come to the table. It's been a consistent problem for the last few years. However, if you have no trains to catch, deadlines or any places to be, give it a go!

A lovely friendly restaurant, The staff were extremely efficient and offered suggestions to those who hadn't dined vegetarian before, The wait time was also quite quick,I had the onion ring burger and it was really good

Delicious food! My friend and I ordered 'The jailbird' and the 'Chilli Cheese Fries', along with a lime and choc milkshake. It was served promptly and the view from the balcony was wonderful, so peaceful and pretty. I would recommend this food to all, you couldn't tell there was no meat!!!

Wonderful little place, deserves more awareness! The sodas have a nice almost herbal taste, and the vegan Mac and cheese is fantastic. The breaded tenders have a very unique approach of being sourdough-like pieces crumbed and fried, creating that chicken-like chewiness in a familiar way. Great place to go with friends

Average everyday vegetarian meal.

Food 3/5
Price 3/5
Service 4/5
Atmosphere 3/5
Dishes variety 4/5

Being one of the few vegetarian places in Adelaide we decided to give Meesu a try. Owned and operated by a what it seem a small family we had the two boys serving us while the parents focused on preparing the meals. The menu had a variety of options and we settled with a clay pot dish and two stir fry. The food came out at a reasonable speed and the portions were reasonable. However, there were only limited amount of mock meats considering the price was slight to a little above the average at a chinese restaurant of similar format. I weren't sure if that was the intention considering it was a vegetarian place but nevertheless the taste overall was still pleasant and the flavours were nicely balanced.

When I first arrived I considered walking out as it wasn't the cleanest floor I had ever seen, which was a real shame because the food was amazing - like amazing. The food was so good and the people that work there are very nice. Unfortunately I wouldn't feel comfortable taking friends here due the lack of cleanliness in the dining room.

Gave this place a shot because past reviews said that the food was fresh. And tasty.
I honestly would have reviewed this restaurant earlier, but my body was too busy processing 3700 mg of sodium and 1890 mg of sugar that constituted my dinner. I'm not quite sure what happened to this restaurant since these positive reviews were written, but the food was not good. The owner and staff were friendly and the space was clean. However, the food was not good. Did I mention that?
It wasn't fresh. Both dishes were drowning in sauce. Not a delicate sauce that accentuates the delicious natural flavours of the ingredients, but a thick mess of what seemed to be store bought sweet and sour.
For us, this was not money well spent.

Dined Wednesday 3rd. August 2016 with 2 friends.
Was disappointed after reading previous revues.
Several dishes were ordered. It was a cold night and cold plates didn't help.
No 3. Spring rolls, only 5 were on plate, menu stated 6. Had almost no taste except for the oil they were cooked in.
No 27? Fried rice. Tasty, but cool, the cold plate didn't help.
No 40. Cashew nut soy chicken. Again almost cold. nicely cooked vegetables, but lacked added flavor, could taste the oil again and there was no taste of soy in the chicken, which didn't taste like anything.
However, the Eggplant (No 44.) was hot and tasty as was the clay pot (No 39?)
I'm sure the family running this establishment are very hard working, but I would not recommend this restaurant because the food was not as good as it could be.

we need more vegan friendly places like this place!
the food was light & fresh! also great for people who have issues eating onion & garlic, meesu doesn't use them!
i had the boiled dumplings, veggies with rice noodles & "chicken" nuggets!
so damn good! everyone always raves about the dumplings, the noodles were so light and fresh & the nuggets were so flavoursome.. more than any other nuggets i've had!
the only bad thing is that it is a little bit pricey.

When they don't pick up the phone at weekend it's not because they're busy, it's because they aren't open, so don't go along! First restaurant I tried off of this website & failed already! If the restaurant or the website can't get the information right it simply isn't worth visiting either.

Happy Eating. Arrived in Adelaide and began search for vegan and lucky this was around corner from the hotel in South Terrace. Clean - friendly and the family were lovely. The place easy and not too fancy - just the way I like it. The food at Meesu was really enjoyable with home made "secret" sauces, yummy entrees and while I am not always a fan of gluten - either it is done well or done badly - I decided to have the gluten lemon chicken and I was not disappointed- It was great and I think some meat eaters would enjoy such a dish. Over the few days I was in Adelaide Meesu remained the favorite and upon any return to Adelaide I would definitely make sure to go there.

Yummy food, byo, great opening hours & friendly family place - what's not to like?. Meesu really rocks and is a definate fave of ours... It's a small cozy place with a nice family vibe, a varied and interesting menu, reaonably priced food and byo wine with no corkage. Service is always friendly and helpful and it's open every day I think for lunch & dinner. We've been frequently and never been diassppointed, well worth a visit :-)

My partner and I are regulars here because the food is tasty, generous and quirky. The owner/manager is really sweet, which contributes to the restaurant's happy and homely atmosphere. His children clear your plates (in between watching movies/eating their dinner at a corner table) and his wife occasionally appears from within the kitchen to help with serving. The vegan items on the menu are clearly marked. The food is delicious and varied, with a huge selection of imitation meats, some of which are eerily realistic while others are more of a slightly comical novelty (e.g. the prawns!) This place is comforting, low-key and cute and never fails to satisfy. The milky iced teas are worth trying, especially the taro!

Went here on a Saturday night, no one else in except us and a table of older men who clearly knew the owner. We sat down and were stared at by them (it was just myself and my mother!), and their conversation (with the staff!), while in another language, was clearly about us. After making it obvious we were uncomfortable nothing changed so we left. Terrible as we were really looking forward to some mock food. Went to Zenhouse instead - much more modern and friendly.

Vegan heaven!! I've long been searching for somewhere that had dumpling noodle soup without using animal broth... Meesu was the only place I found and it did not disappoint. So many options - can't wait to go back for more. Small, family run place with great service.

Lovely crispy salt & pepper tofu and delicious dumpling noodle soup. Friendly service, only fault was the long wait but was def worth it. Will be back!!

Mmmmm sticky soya ribs. I love meesu! The staff are so lovely, the little boys who help out their dad are so sweet too! The food is soooooo delicious and so many vegan options!

I still cant go past the ''chicken'' friend rice and sticky soya ribs though, yum!

Best Food. I love this restaurant. I do not really look for meat substitute but here is a place I can bring my friends and family who are not vego's and they really enjoy the meal. I recommend the salt and pepper tofu, the spring rolls, the dumplings, the hot pots - I have not been disappointed with any meal I have tried. Prices are reasonable, service is great and so are the pots of teas.
Magnetic Cat
Awesome delicious Asian food - and the man who runs this store is such a nice person. He always seems to remember that my partner and I are vegan - and he will point out if we accidentally order one of the few non-vegan items on the menu! Such good soul food and good prices. The green tea range is really nice too!

These guys kick ass. Keep doing what you're doing guys!!

I love this place. As soon as you walk in the door, you feel so welcomed by this beautiful family. The food is delicious and even meat-eater friends love it. Fake meats aren't for everyone, but as a vegetarian of only a few years, I do miss eating meat from time to time, and this place nails it. The food is yummy (the ribs and salt & pepper 'chicken' are so good!), the price is right, and I love the idea that I'm supporting this lovely family.

Great little place for takeout. Cheap and yummy! My dad loves the food here.
It's a lovely family run restaurant with friendly and helpful service.

Yum. These guys are great!

I recommend the 'Lemon Gluten Chicken' or the 'Chicken Fried Rice' to anyone trying to take someone who usually eats meat haha, they are the most 'familiar' dishes.

Everything I've had here has been great, and they're the most lovely owners!

Good prices too
Jarrod
Great. The presentation of the dish I had was excellent and it tasted great. I found the mock meat vey convincing being a recently converted vegan. Will return again.
Richie
WOW!. The best vegetarian and vegan take out in Adelaide! Even the meat eating housemate couldn't believe how amazing the food tasted!
Quick and efficient service and very affordable.

Great Discovery. Meesu is situated in a fantastic location and unlike many other vegetarian restaurants with meat substitute, the meat substitute here tastes so similar to the real thing that you could hardly taste the difference. The family is lovely and the prices are reasonable.

Nice family run place. Great service. Tastey and interesting food.
Sophie
Pretty good would go again to try some other things.

Fantastic and quirky. The prices are very reasonable, especially given how unique the food is. The meat substitutes are surprisingly realistic and satisfy the texture requirements as well as having their own unique flavour. The Ho-Tou ("monkey head") mushrooms have a spectacular flavour and incredible texture that's hard to describe - almost like very tender beef.

I'm not a vegetarian and certainly not a vegan, but I could happily eat nothing but vegan food for the rest of my life if I could prepare it like this.

A regular favorite. My partner and I often eat at Meesu, sometimes a few times a week. The service, prices and variety are excellent, it is in my opinion the best entirely vegetarian restaurant in Adelaide, it has even impressed my more omnivorously inclined friends.

Our favourite must be the selection of noodle soups. all of which are fantastic, filling and very well priced. Meesu also has dishes comprised of Ho Tou mushrooms, which the store actually has to import from Taiwan; apparently no where else cooks or sells them, which is a shame because they are very tasty.

I definitely recommend giving meesu a try, even if you are a meat eater, and I hope you are pleasantly surprised.

Just what you need on a cold, wet night!. The food here is absolutley delicious. its clean, simple and of course... vegetarian. it's great to know that a small place like this is settled in Adelaide. I ordered the herbal soup and was quite impressed, my mum was equally impressed with her dumpling soup. Both broths couldn't have been any different. They had an amazing warming flavour and I was impressed with the textures and flavours of the soy meats (which were so intriguing!). Other options on the menu include various hot pots, stir-fry's and a plentiful range of bubble teas - which i am keen to try!

The staff are also friendly and welcoming.

Asian Pulteney St. June 20, 2014 Meesu very pleased to be here! I'm shown to my table by a boy of ten or so. I'm recommended the three Clay Pot dishes. One contains chicken. Meesu not think dat chicken be a vegetable. Clay pot mixed vegetables with tofu 5/10 This is effectively a giant bowl of boiled vegetables. There are some interesting components in here- goji berries, and little prune-like fruits. However, there's no taste other than the taste of the obvious ingredients - none of which work together in any way. I hope the "soup" in the bottom has a stronger taste, but it's just warm and slightly salty water, with a hint of bok choi and cabbage that's leached out into it. Being 100% comprised of vegetables, this dish would get ten out of ten for healthiness. I haven't eaten much healthy feed in the last week, so I'm happy to eat this. There is no dessert here. That's probably a good thing.

A mate of mine was in town and working on Hutt St, we decided to go out for a quick bite to eat and wanted somewhere local. One block west of Hutt St is Meesu Vegetarian Kitchen - a 99% vegan Chinese/Asian fusion restaurant. It was a one man front of house band on a Wednesday night with one chef in the kitchen. The waiter (and maybe owner?) was friendly and super helpful when I asked about the menu.
