Wonderful food. Came out quickly and we were served after 9pm on a Friday night. Salt and pepper pork was a stand out. Delicious.
We have been going to Star of Siam for over 20 years and it never disappoints. Ever. It’s probably my favourite Thai restaurant in Australia. Along with excellent food, the service is always warm, friendly and impeccable. #starofsiam
I think this is one of the best Thai restaurants in Adelaide. It was once kind of modern but everywhere else caught up but its still excelle t quality and delicious.
Star of Siam came recommended by some foodie friends who now live in Syd, but go back to Adl to visit family - this is their go-to, and I can understand why - QUICK service, excellent size service, and reasonably priced!
We would have loved to have sat outside and people-watched, however it was an extremely warm night, and opted for the aircon inside ;-)
We ordered drinks - Aperol Spritz, refreshing on a hot January night, and before we knew it, the food had arrived!
We ordered:
- Pla Beef - Salad of beef with lemongrass, mint, herbs and chilli, tossed with spicy lemon dressing.
- Spicy Crispy Prawn - Crispy prawn tossed with homemade curry paste, capsicum, and cashew nut
- Salt and Pepper Soft Shell Crab - Crispy soft shell crab tossed with salt, pepper and spices, served with sweet chilli sauce
Of these three we were both disappointed by the Spicy Crispy Prawns - deep-fried and overcooked :-(
But I'd definitely go back!
The kind of place you go back to time and time again because it's reliable and delivers exactly what it promises. The food is great! Usually I'm one of those people that jumps straight into the Pad Thai but I actually prefer the Drunken Noodle here. One time we picked up food to take out, and left without grabbing our rice. A staff member actually chased us out of the restaurant with our rice so that we didn't leave without it. Super sweet. I also rate that they have a whole section of vege options, kudos!
Yum yum yum.
The Sea Star Dumplings were definitely the highlight (we wound up ordering seconds). Also really enjoyed the Spicy Crispy Prawns, which was a special. Pad Thai and Massaman Curry also decent.
Dessert was a bit of a let down, as was the Pla Beef, but all in all a great experience and I’ll definitely be back when next in Adelaide for the dumplings alone.
Had dinner here and tried their green curry and massaman curry with rice. Busy on a weekday proves great food and wine. Well priced and vego options plentiful
Whenever we visit Adelaide, we keep coming back for a great Thai food. Barramundi is nice and fresh and the service is absolutely excellent. Staff are welcoming and very attending. We will come back for sure. Your loyal Melbourne customers.
*menu prices are different then in restaurant*
OK let me begin.. I haven’t been here in absolute donkey years but I remembered the food to be quite tasty. I went last night with my husband .. and omg it is still pretty damn amazing!!! Service is faultless too!! So we ordered the barramundi with chilli sauce (not to spicy), The dish underneath the barramund (prawns mussels baby squid and snow peas and also stir fry rice (without chilli) Please if you go I HIGHLY recommend the barramundi. It was perfection. If I had to pick on one thing (hence the 4 starts) it would be the fried rice. I would of loved to taste a “wok” taste to it.. only a few will understand what that means. Overall 9/10. Try the barramundi and let me know how you go. You will me gob smacked. The crispness was to die for. I WISH I took photos but I could not wait haha.
An old favorite.
Great choice for lunch perhaps a bit pricey for dinner or am I too picky?
Fresh flavors and aromas.
Quick friendly and efficient service.
Recommended.
Great service, even when busy. Positive dining experience, delicious genuine Thai food in a relaxed environment. It's a bit pricey but we had dessert also. Recommend
The food was awesome and the staff very friendly and helpful. It was super busy when we ate here but it was the night of the Adelaide Motorsport Festival street party. Still no big wait times for food either
This place never disappoints. Definitely a go to. Fantastic cuisine- great friendly staff and atmosphere. Far from expensive. I will definitely be returning.
We visited on a Saturday night and the place was quite busy, but it was a good atmosphere with attentive staff.
The food isn't overly expensive and portions are quite large. We had the tom yum soup for entree, green curry and stir fried vegetables in peanut sauce for main. The curry was flavoursome but I found the stir fried vegetables a bit bland.
Great place for lactose-free alternatives as most of the curries are made with coconut milk.
Not the best experience. The Thai curry was super sweet and the just not hot enough. Have eaten Thai food across the globe this didn't live up to my expectations.
While we were sightseeing in Adelaide, this place has caught our attention as it appears to be a popular spot. It looked very busy and we just assumed that it must be really good considering the popularity. We had the soft shell papaya salad, beef curry and the seafood curry. I must say I had better papaya salad than this but nevertheless, it was still tasty enough. Both curry were also good. The service was pretty decent. If ever you are around the area, I recommend this place.
Great food - good service - food was very tasty and fresh. The location is good and the non smoking outside area is brilliant if the weather is good.
Had dinner there tonight food was good a couple of nice fresh seasonal special which is alway nice. prompt and friendly service an Adelaide staple restaurant.
Very busy place try to book or you maybe disappointed
Food is really nice and tasty bit pricy but with the visit
Entrees are great mains tasty n spicy all good
Wine list not too exy so the two visits we had were great

We didn't have a booking on a Friday night however we were lucky to have got in. Service was fabulous and very fast. We really enjoyed 3 shared entree dishes. The pla beef salad was so fresh and full of flavours, the soft shell crab was cooked to perfection, crunchy and fresh. The Miang Pla was like nothing we have ever had, our mouths were salivating for more . Highly recommend this restaurant and the service was very friendly ..
Arrived for booking, had to wait for 10 to be seated and get somebodys attention. Not a great start, but once we were seated service turned around. Our waitress was lovely, reccomending the sea stars, which came our fast, and were delicious. For mains we had the pad thai and the drunken seafood. We aren't the biggest thai food fans, but these were delicious. Pad Thai with that beautiful wok fried taste and the seafood was fresh and tender. Overall a good experience. Great for date night.
Peace and love
The crispy prawns tossed in homemade curry paste, capsicum and cashew nuts is more heavenly than Liam Hemsworth. A special participation award must also go to the sea star minced prawn, squid and chicken dumplings, which are slathered in a mind-blowing mild red curry sauce.
I felt this was an OK THAI restaurant but not great. I loved the Choo Chee prawn, Massamum beef, and Pandan Chicken, but felt the Pad Thai was a bit too sweet. We also tried the Jungle Curry from the chef's special menu which was not to our like. The waiters were very attentive so they got the additional half a point.
Professional service from the moment you walk through the door, plentiful menu, and lovely, hot dishes served in a prompt manner. It's little wonder Star of Siam is so popular.
My Pad Thai was a large portion, and I couldn't finish it after indulging in a shared entrée of Salt & Pepper Bean Curd. Loved that there were several vegetarian options, most of which I liked the look of, and I'm a pain in the arse when it comes to food.
This is a stand-out among many Asian restaurants on Gouger St, especially if you're after a fancier setting.
Friendly staff delicious food wonderful tastes and flavours. A very pleasant dining experience. Good variety in the wine list..would definitely visit here again if i lived here.
The original and the best, triple threat (amazing food, service, value) and my likely, most regular haunt. Sea stars, snow pea salad, pad that, masaman beef and a bowl of choo chee sauce with. Bang! Heaven.
Thai food at its best. Everything has the authentic Thai flavour and there are some real delights for you to discover. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu but you must try the entree sea stars that are my favourites. The pad Thai was plentiful and delicious and all the mains ordered were brimming with flavour. We ordered a lot of the seafood mains and they were all tender, fresh and flavoursome. Sometimes service seems a bit rushed like they want you to hurry and get out of there but we took our time and enjoyed the experience. So next time you're in the city make sure to stop here for an unforgettable meal.
Had takeaway from here last night. Absolutely perfect, the Sea Star, Green Curry Chicken and Masaman Beef Curry. The best Thai food in Adelaide.
Went to dinner there at Chinese New Year so the place was packed and seemed chaotic. However the service of both food and drinks were really fast and the staff very welcoming. The food was top notch as well with my partner and i ordering a few different dishes and loving all of them. Definitely going back!
We had dinner at The Star Of Siam last night and as expected we had a great dinner. Have been here a few times of the years but have never posted a review.
As usual for a Saturday night it was packed but not uncomfortably so as to affect the night. The staff are very pleasant and knowledgable about the menu.
I started with the beef salad (Pla Beef) which is absolutely fantastic, so full of flavour and textures. I alternate between the chicken satay's and the salad each visit. The others had spring rolls which were apparently tasty.
For main course I had chicken Pad-Kee-Mao (waiters recommendation) a delicious stir fry with just the right amount of chilli for me. I can highly recommend this for those who enjoy a little heat in their meal. One of the others at the table had the massaman curry and it was great (I had a little), the beef was so tender and the sauce was very delicate.
All in all a very nice dinner with good friends and family in a delightful restaurant with a very well trained staff.
Awesome food! This is my second visit to this Thai establishment and it has not disappointed me once. :) Friendly service, and I will definitely come back again!
I am a regular to star of Siam, and always sticks to my favorite 3 dishes : the stars, the chicken choochee and the crispy snapper. Never been disapointed!
Star of Siam has long been a favourite, starting with an amazing experience around 10 years ago before we decided to move to Adelaide. Strangely we have only visited a couple of times since, but for a wedding anniversary lunch, this was an obvious choice.
We were not disappointed!
The green curry was everything it should be - fresh and vibrant with good heart, but still able to taste all the components of the paste and the vegetables.
The massuman curry is a great go to of mine - just the rich opulence of it, the slow cooked beef, rich sauce and potatoes makes it sound a little one dimensional, but the depth of flavour just overcomes any concerns. Absolutely sensational.
They also have a good and varied wine list with many by the glass options.
For the two dishes, with 2 glasses of wine, to come out at about $40 for quality food in the heart of Gouger Street you really cannot all for more.
Nice to see the quality remains unchanged.

our go to Thai restaurant! my absolute favorite place, the food never disappoints and the service is impeccable! I would book before hand because there is always guaranteed to have a line up on the weekend! All the food is amazing but I recommend the sea stars, choo chee chicken and crispy chilli prawns!
Excellent, authentic Thai food with an extensive menu. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Super tasty food and in a slightly more formal atmosphere.
We have eaten hear a few times after being recommended to us. Small restaurant, very busy for lunch and tea (sign of a good place) all our meals have been beautiful full of great flavour, we love this place, Cost is a little more than others.
My favourite Thai restaurant in all of Adelaide! Such friendly service with great tasting food. I had tried the masaman curry, pad thai and green chicken curry, all of which were bursting with flavour. For dessert, I had the sticky rice with mango pudding and coconut icecream, simply delicious.
Very tasty meals. Although.... Very tasty meals.
Although found a piece of plastic in one of our meals, which was quickly resolved with a apology and a free meal replacement. I still would go back because the food was very good.
A gouger street favourite. In a street full of overwhelming tastes and smells, this is one of the best. From the hospitality to the incredible food, the dining experience is impressive and memorable. Would recommend it if you're looking for a good quality meal!
Food arrived quickly and it was delicious! Green curry and jasmine rice. Reasonable price. Service initially brusque but the staff warmed up! Would go again for sure
Simply the best Thai restaurant in Adelaide. I have been coming here for 25 years and it sets the standard by which I judge all Thai food anywhere I go. The most delightful and attentive Maitre'd, friendly and competent staff, and most of all, outstanding Thai food! The Sea Stars & snow pea salad are an incredible entree combination; then take your pick of delicious mains. Genuine, astute Thai diners will keep coming back.
Quick lunch. Lunch is always good and cheap. amazing place and great people
Good food.. had the banquet. .lots of food.. yum
Pricey Thai with great tastes and skilled service. Lovely food and service in a convenient location by the Market. The food was fresh and tasty, the service professional and crisp.
I was there with a big group and the kitchen and waitstaff timed everything beautifully, with all the dishes being the right temperature and in the the right sequence, no mean feat.
Two little notes: Their heat scale is higher than most (which I like, but if you're sensitive to spicy, worth asking them to tone it down for you), and their prices are higher than most.
Service could be better. Food was so yummy and flavourful! Definitely try the red duck curry!!
However, as it got closer to the end of our meal, I felt like I was getting kick out as the waitress kept coming over and asking if we were done yet..
LOVE! A bit untrusting of most asian outlets but this one is definately a quality eatery. The staff was accomodating and friendly. This place gets super busy so don't expect special treatment. The sea stars are a must, the chicken satays, and their salads are sensational!
Don't go here without getting the Sea Star - absolutely to die for!
Food, service and wine list all very pleasing.
Star of Siam has earnt it's spot as a well established Gouger St veteran.
Havent been there for a decade, so we thought we'd try it again. Food was good, and service OK (friendly but a little slow). Huge table of 24 people right next door kinda ruined things..... Will be going back though.
I've been here a few times and quality has always been consistent. Great food and quick and friendly service. The food is fresh and tasty. Would come again and I recommend Star of Siam for good Thai food that is well priced
Best Thai in Adelaide. Fabulous food (almost) every time I go there. The green mango barramundi is a must. If this is not in season, get the lemongrass barramundi - also amazing. To get the best taste out of the barramundi, let the juices soak through for a while before you start eating it.
Excellent Food & Service. My parents, boyfriend and I last week tried Star of Siam for the first time. My mum being gluten-free (GF) it was important that we found a good restaurant we could all eat at without her feeling left out or worried her food would be cross-contaminated.
We didn't book, so were lucky enough to get a table that wasn't reserved until 8pm.
We ordered one chicken and one beef satay kebab entree to share (non-GF), which came out within 5 minutes of being ordered. The waiter dished it all up to us on the table and while he was doing so, the chef came out to talk to someone, saw what was happening, and quickly told reminded the waiter that the dish wasn't GF - which the waiter had already noted. It was excellent to note that all employees had been made aware however that one on our table was GF! The entree was really delicious.
Our main was out 10 mins after our entree and while one dish came out later than the others, they were all really yum!!
We all thoroughly enjoyed our own dishes, the staff were wonderful at making sure we had everything we needed and were constantly filling up our water glasses.
OUTSTANDING SERVICE, Good food, and not too overpriced! We will definitely be going back!
Great Night. The Star is always busy for a good reason. Great food reasonably priced. With Friends who know and love Thai food and we had a terrific meal. Tom yum soup is the best I've tasted in Adelaide and other entrees, yum beef, sea stars and soft shell crab with papaya salad are to die for. Musaman curry, pad Thai and vegetarian main of pad ka pow were all delicious. Attentive friendly service, regularly filling water glasses, was a bonus. And the coffee is as good as any Italian place. Can't wait for next time.
Yum and excellent service. Dined last night. Completely packed on a monday night. Great service from long term staff who are there every time I go. All food delicious. We were last to leave at 11pm and not made to feel we were in the way. A favourite.
Green curry fandom.. I've visited Star of Siam on several occasions now, half of them being take away, and, somewhat embarrassingly, have always ordered the green curry and steamed bun. After the first taste of their curry, green being a favourite of mine, and my subsequent rapture I have never given myself the chance to try else! I know several people who visit regularly however so while I can't vouch for the rest of their menu my friends (who were the ones to recommended this restaurant) have always been impressed.
Bad service but nice food. Went there with a couple of friends. The service was poor but the food was nice. The pad thai was the nicest dish out of all.
Just fantastic! Been coming here since it opened in the 80's and its delicious consistency and great service make it a stand out restaurant.
Meals came out quickly and tasted great, good service. Sat outside, inside the restaurant was very noisy.
Great Food but LOUD. I love to take my time and eat in a nice relaxing environment. This is not the case with Star of Siam, it is super loud and fast and busy and seats are so close to other diners..
BUT FOOD IS GREAT
Had a wonderful experience here on a Tuesday night. Glad we booked, It was packed! Amazing food, and I could not fault the service - very friendly and attentive. Try the Sea Stars for entree - they are heavenly! Will definitely be back.
Fabulous food, service and atmosphere. And very popular it was packed on a Tuesday night.
Best Thai so far. I have been to many Thai restaurants, some are good and some are just terrible. But this place stands alone in terms of superiority of their dish - it is very good! And they're also consistent that you think that one time it was just a fluke, but coming a second time provided the same exquisite experience to the taste buds. Sadly, amidst their heavenly food, their service could improve. Perhaps the owner can learn to train their staff in the art of customer service such as giving customers ample time to enjoy their meal and not being forced to order individual dish if they don't want to. But overall, I would still go back just for the food.
Great Service -Great Food. Went to the Star of Siam last night and experienced great service as always. The food was excellent, however the prices can be steep for some people. I'm happy to pay extra for great service and a friendly smile, even if the food is not of a Michelin quality.
Overall this venue deserves 8/10.
Good Thai in Adelaide. Service always good. Food not bad. Prices a little high. Overall, good.
Best Thai in the CBD. This is my girlfriends favourite restaurant, I too like SOS but its a monthly luxury as its not the cheapest place we eat at! However, the quality of the food and the AMAZING fresh Thai flavours make it worth it! The staff are always polite and welcoming! Always worth a visit!
Great food. I had a great meal last night, salt and pepper soft shell crab, it was fantastic. The water glasses were constantly refilled during the meal which was nice. Service when ordering was a little abrupt. Otherwise a top night.
SOS is the best Thai food in Adelaide - you'd struggle to find better Thai with great service & friendly staff.
