Review The Oyster Bar - Adelaide

Adam Davies
Its great to try all the ways these guys can whip up oysters while sitting back relaxing watching everyone walk by and look at you enjoy some of the best oysters in adelaide. Shared a mixed dozen with a mate and my favourite was definitely the pesto. As for the oyster shots, i could chug them all day, id hate to see how id end up but😂

We used to go there every year with our annual holiday. For the last 4 years it has been great until recently. Not sure why but the staff (who seemed to be the owners) were rather rude and seemed like they didn't want to be there. Also the size of the oysters were a lot smaller than usual, maybe a seasonal issue???? However the drinks were good and the price was reasonable.

Visited on a Wednesday night to order only 1.5 dozen of fresh oysters. Took over an hr, with many prompts of when our food was coming. Had the first dozen come out and was missing half a dozen which took another 30mins to come out. Only to taste completely different with different ingredients to the other half we received first. Was told the main chef just came back and was making it right then and there when I had asked where the last bit of oysters were. Very terrible service and questionble quality of food and management. Had no indicatio

Absolutely revolting. Waited over half hour when restaurant was empty. Oysters fresh but lacked topping, $20 cheese plate was thrown together and arrived last. Delivered to the table by a young man with filthy hands - needless to say we didn’t eat the cheese. Save your money. We spent $128 and it was the worst experience we have ever had. Shame because the oyster bar used to be amazing back in the day. Ps. When we told the girl behind the bar (who was lovely) not to worry about the cheese plate as it was taking too long - they ignored our request. Shame on you.

Great selection of oysters, down to earth staff. Best location.

The oysters at this place are HUMUNGOUS!!! My favourite oysters were the Cheese & Sweet Chilli. Very friendly and bubbly staff and all Oyster lovers with exceptional knowledge. I didn't think there was so much to learn about an Oyster until I came to this place. Very happy! We will be returning with friends!

Has to be the rudest staff I have come across. From when we first walked in it was clear to us we weren't welcome. The man at the counter was rude, and condescending. Once we were seated, we moved 2 tables together so we could sit with friends and he walked past sarcastically saying how smart we were. We had a great night that night, but only after we left the Oyster Bar. The Oysters were nice, but that's about it. There is no way any of us will be going back there.

Great oysters- kilpatrick are AHHMAZINGG! Everytime great customer service (I don't understand how others have had bad run ins) & by far the best oyster shooters- three for $20! We always book ahead, it gives the owners an idea of how many oysters they need to prepare.

It has been at least 10 years since we have been here. Still impressed. Fresh oysters with a good menu with all of the favorites. Oysters were beautiful and staff were nice.

I was very excited to visit this place as i am an oyster lover. But a serious disappointment! The ambience is horrible, there was this unpleasant smell in the bar.
The wine list is crappy. I wont comment on the food as i felt the place seemed clean to be having oysters.
Viktor
Can't comment on the food because it never came. Waited 45 minutes for oysters kilpatrick and eventually left without eating. Wouldn't recommend.

What. A. Hovel.

Just don't. One of those unfortunate cases where you're already ordering drinks before you realise the only other guests here are the owners.

Oysters shooters - great value.

Music - aggressive crap.
Bartenders - friendly but gruff

Just always a concern when bars on both sides are full, but this is empty.

Have not been to the Oyster Bar for ages and was happily surprised by having the very best oysters in Adelaide. Oysters from Streaky Bay freshly shucked were beautifully prepared @ tasted wonderful.

A a big disappointment bought a Groupon for $70. What we got was a bottle of wine and a dozen very small oysters. T hen had to ask for the prawn skewers. They where two skewers of three small tasteless prawns. Will never come back as the oysters are normally $33 very expensive for small oysters and have had better at many other establishments.

When you go to something called the Oyster Bar you expect high quality oysters and great flavours but this was a huge disappointment. Small dry oysters with sauces that were too overpowering and spoiled the oysters completely. They need some expert advice on how to cook them and ensure the sauces complement them. Oyster bars elsewhere in Adelaide are much much better.
Master Diner
Yeah, nah ..... I could buy those oysters retail for $8 which means these guys probably pay $6 and they charge me a premium of $33 for them. If you call yourself the oyster bar, you want to make sure you deliver the best oysters in Adelaide. Those were far from it. There must be better Oyster bars in Adelaide and I'm now on a mission to find them.

Doesn't kill attic that were fresh but cold

Steer clear. Would never ever return to this place. We were using a voucher & our booking was on record but they had not allowed for it, told to go outside (it was cold & windy) or eat standing at the bar. Prawn skewers were insipid, oysters were tiny, tasteless & definitely not fresh. Staff were clueless & extremely unhelpful. Asked to speak to the manager but we left after waiting & not getting ANY response.

Oyster Bar. Here on a groupon voucher. Lovely grilled prawns (three on a skewer) and delicious oysters. Staff offered a mixture of the three available types so we chose 2 natural, 4 each Kilpatrick and chilli & cheese. The house bubbly was quite good. We sat outside and even saw a twilight rainbow, very nice. For $29 we were very pleased, would go again.

Disappointed. Really Unsatified how the workers closes the shop 40 minutes earlier. I drove all the way from Gawler and we got there at 10:15 and the worker told us they are closed. They suppose to be close at 11. Really disappointed

Incredibly rude staff. We phoned an hour before we came in to say we had a voucher from online and if we needed to book. We were told we didn't need to, and to come on in. When we arrived the man working behind the counter was very rude telling us they won't accept any off the street without a booking, and it was only after we spoke to the manager that we were allowed to use the vouchers we bought. When we were sitting, the manager and the staff member were talking at us and pointing to us from 3 metres away, and the staff member made snide comments about us sitting. I didn't realise that staff would be this rude to customers purely because they used a voucher the restaurant advertised and sold. We weren't welcome there, and none of us will ever go back.

I'm honestly surprised they have managed to stay in business with customer service like that. The oysters were nice, but that's where the positives end.

If only they cleaned their beer lines. Oysters should be $2 cheaper and a bit of effort and this place will boom!...

"Must try harder, could do better". The wine list is ok but unless you actually want oysters, go elsewhere. I had a cheese plated which featured ordinary cheese, Turkish apricots and stale soggy cashews.

For a place called the oyster bar, the dozen Kirkpatrick I had last night was a disappointment, flavour was average at best

Horrid!!!. We haven't been to this place since it first opened....and we won't be back! The grilled prawns were steamed and had no flavour. The oyster were the worst I have evr had. There were flies everywhere, the bread was stale and the lemons had been sliced hours earlier. Don't go there. The staff looked miserable, there was no atmosphere. We couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Embarrasing. We ate here a while ago & it was great, sitting under the verandah outside on a warm sunny day eating oysters & drinking Carona's.... Could nt wait to go back! Well we did & we took some friends, after telling them how good it was! How wrong was I ! The oysters are now tiny & very over priced. (The shells were not much bigger than a teaspoon.)
At lunchtime on a Saturday there was only one staff member working ??
All be it that she was very good, she could not handle the work load on her own. Hence the oysters kilpatric were burnt .
I don't think I will be going Back again.

Meh!. Such a disappointing affair! The oysters they served up were unbalanced in terms of flavour combinations. Stay away from the red wine vinegar shallot oysters, they were horrid, after 2 oysters, my mouth had a permanent twisted scowl attached! Wrong wrong wrong! The salsa oysters were just a weird combination of cold salsa, room temperature oysters and hot grilled capsicum, eww! The pesto oysters....mhm, the pesto overpowered the oyster making it a pointless exercise. The only oysters I enjoyed were the au naturale and the wasabi mayonaise.

Dissapointed. I had a voucher at this place and was very excited to try this place. When we went there, the wine we wanted ($67)was not available. I expected another wine that is compatible to be given, but instead, we were given very cheap wine. The grilled prawns that we ordered...I dont think it was grilled at all but boiled. The oyster ( which they said was for 2 people) was of very small size that was no sufficient to constitute a meal for a person. I think the main reason for such service and food was because we had a voucher. I hope they treat customers who dont have vouchers differently.

Goodbye cold winter days, hello warm and sunny spring/ summer days! Although spring started about a month ago, the weather was still a bit gloomy during the first couple of weeks but thankfully, it is improving and I am not going to miss this opportunity to go to Glenelg! The last time I was here was probably in March when the weather was transitioning to autumn. A picture perfect view of beach houses, yachts, emerald green sea water and glorious sunlight White wine to celebrate the spring season What better way to relax by the seaside than to have a couple of fresh oysters. Diners can opt to add a few drops of tobasco and a sprinkle of black pepper to their oysters for a more "awakening" taste:) We ordered the fresh oyster platter which is nothing but fresh oysters. I am not a big fan of oysters but I can definitely tell that it is fresh as it did not have any strange fishy aftertaste nor were the oysters rubbery in texture. Just because I don't like fresh oysters doesn't mean I would
