Review Cafe Michael 2 - Adelaide

Green curry was pretty tasty. Seems a little pricey for the quality. Would still be interested in going again to try more of their food. Staff was very friendly

Photos don’t do justice. You just have to come and taste the food yourself. I never enjoyed Egg Noodles in my life but this place changed me. Simply taste, smokey, right sweetness, umami and creamy. Noodles was properly cooked, none of it sticking together. Right texture and very delicious! I encourage you to try it and you will not be disappointed. Definitely will be back!

First time I've ever eaten here, and I will definitely be going back. The food was incredible. Ate it all before I remembered to take a photo. It came out in a very timely manner. Everyone working was polite and had smiles on their faces. They clearly do a good amount of take away, so either you sit in or take away, it's absolutely worth every cent.

First time in Cafe Micheal 2 and YOU have to go! It’s the cutest little spot in the city with amazing food. The Thai food is to die for. IT WAS FIRE!! The service we received was so amazing and we will definitely be back again. They made us feel welcomed and gave us an amazing experience.

Great lunch menu. Delicious food, always ready in minutes, and very friendly staff. Highly recommended

The Pad Thai noodles are very nice. Have only tried that as a vegan. The quantity of veggies are great. However, we asked to add tofu at extra cost and it was a disaster. We literally left all the tofu in the dish and had the regular serving. Basically, Don't add tofu otherwise the good and service is great.

The restaurant looks a bit old, but the food was amazing. I was here during Adelaide Fringe and I think that this is the best Thai food restaurant that you must try when visiting Adelaide. Massaman beef curry was my favourite, following by Chicken Druken noodle. The chicken was well-cooked to remain juicy. It was dark outside during the fringe so I didn’t have chance to take photos!! Highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to try authentic Thai food in Adelaide!

Had an amazing time here. Authentic & Delicious food, excellent service and a well maintained place. Thai has been my favorite cuisine since then! Highly recommended!👍🏻

Seafood Tom Yum - A little bit sweet for my taste but overall flavour was spot on. Definitely ask for it to be hot if you want that hit of chilli.
Spicy Chicken Wings - Not spicy at all. Not very memorable. Just tasted like plain fried chicken I do at home.

Overall experience was fine. I was disappointed to not see many asian inspired drinks on the menu. Split billing was handy.

I wouldn’t have guess this is a Thai restaurant from the name. Anyway let’s get back to food and service.

We had pandan chicken and chicken fried rice. The chicken was very well marinated unfortunately it smelled a bit not right. But we did not get stomachaches or anything after that so I guess it’s find. I was expecting the fragrance of pandan unfortunately to no avail. On the other hand, the fried rice was fantastic. Love it. Good amount of ‘wok heat’ very fragrant and delicious. Generous portions. Lots of chicken pieces and veg. Very close to the ones I get in Thailand.

Customer service wise is quite good although the lady who took our order forgotten to gave us thing we requested and told the kitchen that we want the chicken and fried rice to be serve at the same time.

Like most of the shops on Rundle st it is small and narrow. But we were using our travel pram so no issue with parking the pram. There are steps at the door thou.

Do not order the banquet! We were extremely disappointed. We ordered a banquet between 6 people. They brought out 5 standard dishes. Definately really bad value for a bill that was over $200. Food was ok but well below standard for $40 a plate. Waitresses were lovely. To top it off they wouldn't honour the entertainment card because someone else in our group paid for their meal with a voucher. I definately expected more of cafe Michael!

This will be my new go-to lazy Sunday dinner. We had Cafe Michael 2 delivered via Menu Log and was not disappointed when it arrived. Fast, hot and most importantly tasted devine! :))

My partner and i use to order take awat from here once a week and would order quite a bit.
We where both pescaterian at the time and the last 4 times we ordered from here, we had meat in our meals. In my prawn tom kha gai i had duck skin in it and pieces of chicken or duck numerous times, we would have missing meals and the last time we gave them one more chance, both of our soups had a strong chemical taste and smell. We called them to let them know incase it happened to someone elses meal too - but they just brushed it off and where extremely rude and nasty about it. We now order from fresher, tastier and friendlier restaurants. This place went down hill fast, unsure if they got a new chef or maybe understaffed- but i wouldn't waste your money here.

Thai chicken fried rice & vegetable basil stir fry for lunch. Both acceptable, nothing bad, nothing to rave about. We had lunch and left with full a belly. The name & decor don't say Thai!! Linda weird. No much else to say. 👍🏻

I can understand why this place gets mixed reviews. I don't mind the food here at all but I think they do some dishes well and others are average. I particularly enjoyed their green curry especially because u can increase the spice level .. their green beans with pork is also tasty . However I've also had disappointing dishes such as their Pad Thai and laksa. I don't think this is a bad restaurant but you need to know what to order ..

Okay but not great Thai food!

My last night overall dining experience here received nothing but an almost dismissive wow factor. Upon arriving here, I was greeted kindly by a few waitresses and thought wow how nice these people are. Despite that, I was appalled at the number of flies in the restaurant - on the walls (some even dead), mirrors, on people, and you name it!! However, I tried to not let this distract me from the supposedly wonderful service I was given when being welcomed.

BUT then things went bad... After ordering, I had a waiter place dirty plates for us to eat on (and when I mean dirty I mean food particles from previous diners) and requested to get new plates only to receive a small upgrade. The service also went downhill when one of the waiters decided to just be like "excuse me *places down food and then walks off*" - which is incredibly rude and unprofessional. In fact, the two waitresses that had served us at the beginning was now becoming somewhat rude and neglectful?

And let's not forget about the food!! We ordered the Nam Tok (beef dish) and Thai Green Curry Chicken which was one of the most awful Thai dishes I've ever had! To make matters worst, I saw one of the three chefs in the kitchen leaning over the counter taking what looked like a well rested break while her dish was cooking (unprofessional once again).

I see the haters, they hatin'. Personally I love this place - although to be fair I usually get it delivered. The only thing I don't like is the pad thai ironically. Try the penang beef or the nam tok.
Eat All The Things
Consistently reasonable thai with the exception of the prices. Maybe it's because of their location they can charge more, but one of the appeals to me of getting thai food is the generally low cost. This will not become a regular because of that. The food however is pretty good, particularly the laksa and crispy beef.

It's been a while since my last visit to Cafe Michael 2. I have to say it was quite disappointing. The service was pretty underwhelming and we had to wait quite awhile for someone to come and take our drink order. The appearance of the cafe was looking very untidy and unloved. There's an open storage cupboard on the side wall which would look so much better if not on display. The curry and stir fry dishes were ok but the pad Thai was really over cooked and not very nice. There a definitely better and more authentic Thai places around!!

After a long hard day working, I went on to our many food delivery sites and chose Cafe Michael for a change. Well I wasn't disappointed. I chose the Pee Pee Island for 2 meal deal for $32.90. You get 2 x spring rolls, Pad Thai, Green Curry chicken and rice. This was excellent value for take away money, considering I have had many deliveries and they can be incredibly expensive if your not careful. The spring rolls were good and at least they tasted homemade and not out of a box. The Pad Thai was fresh and very good, they seriously packed so much into this container, I could have lived off this for a week!! The Green Curry was very well balanced and packed with chicken and basil, only one small mention is that there is not one vegetable in sight in this dish. I do love some veges with my curry, even if it's just one vege, that will do! But still, fresh and tasty. Rice is rice. The delivery came at almost the exact time they said via my txt msg, brownie points for that! Definately worth a try and I look forward to ordering more from their menu in the near foodie future!

Walked into this restraunt with family on a fairly quiet Sunday for lunch; waiter was nice and helpful. The lunch specials have a great variety to choose from and priced very reasonably. We had Pad Thai, Tom Yum Prawns and Thai Vegetarian Fried Rice. All of the dishes were nicely made, and tasted authentic.

Well I can say I have never had such a revolting dinner, entrees deep fried, came out black not because they were over cooked but dirty oil. main coarse pengdan beef so dry could not be eaten and my husband eats everything! Green chicken curry got stuck in my throats every mouthful, another beef dish was swimming in fish sauce ! All sent back.
Belinda Zhao
not authentic at all……the worst Thai I had in years……crispy beef tastes like wood, beef curry is too sweet to eat at all, bad quality of all the dishes
Jay
Great food, especially must try their delicious Green chicken curry and Tom yom soup. Enjoyed a lot, never disappointed here, highly recommended.

Honestly don't understand why they advertise their food as authentic Thai food, because it was probably the least authentic Thai meal I have ever eaten in my life - no exaggeration whatsoever. $15.90 for a small Green Chicken Curry, that consisted literally of just chicken pieces and curry sauce. It was "small" alright - in fact the serving was absolutely tiny for the price, not to mention that it didn't even come with rice. Honestly this tasted like and looked no different from some generic Thai curry from a food court, which I would only pay $6 for.

My friend ordered a chicken pad thai, which was equally terrible. There were barely any noodles, and for some reason the noodles were all chopped really short - maybe into 1-2 inch pieces? The dish was also extremely greasy and doused in some unusual dark sauce.

Will not be returning.

Tom YUMMY!

If thy palette yearns for the best Tom Yum in Adelaide thou shalt not miss Cafe Michael 2. Thou shalt not be disappointed.

Tom Yummy!

Café Michael 2 may be banking on their reputation a little too much. It has been several years since my last visit and I was looking forward to it based on my previous experience. I booked online using Dimmi for a large group - no problems. We arrived and our table was ready. Good. However, the night went downhill from there. The service was friendly but lacking. We had people with gluten intolerances on the table and it required numerous discussion between us and the waitstaff and the waitstaff and the chef to ensure that all dishes were gluten free as we'd opted for a banquet. The food was not as good as I remembered it - pretty average considering Café Michael 2's reputation. Then today I receive an email from Dimmi saying that Café Michael 2 had reported our large group as a "no show" despite arriving on time as booked and spending a substantial sum of money.

This is another Thai restaurant that dropped from our go to list due to high competition among Thai restaurants in Adelaide. They also regularly have groupon deals but cannot be used during the weekends. If they loose the restriction a bit we may return for lunch on the weekends.

After walking around for 30 mins trying to decide where to eat we reckon we chose the best place in town. The food was outstanding and customer service will be hard to beat anywhere else. You will have to try it for yourself, you won't be disappointed. This is the first review I have ever written which goes to show how impressed we were. One more thing...thanks for the glasses!
Jemma
This is far the best Thai restaurant in Australia, amazing flavors, excellent atention by the staff and a beautiful decorated Thai style environment. Highly recommended green curry and papaya salad!

I organised a birthday dinner for 12 people here and it was one of the best experiences I've had. The lady on the phone was very polite and friendly while taking the booking. A confirmation e-mail was sent to me before the date. When we arrived we brought a cake that was later on brought out with plates and cut into small pieces by the staff. The staff were on hand to refill our plates with rice and our cups with water. Fantastic thai food at affordable prices. They even gave my partner a special birthday present and a group picture sent to her by email. Overall a fantastic experience, would highly recommend café Michael 2 to anybody wanting to host a special event.

Overpriced, distinctly average food. OK if you like big serves, but not if you want authentic , tasty thai food.
We had burnt pandan chicken that was sent back, watery satay and green curry, really greasy prawn and mango dish and tasteless beef noodles. The sauces with the entrees were all the same sweet chilli sauce that am sure came from a bottle.
Oh and avoid the toilets - they are gross!!!
Anne-Catherine Lethbridge
The place was a recommendation so we went to try it. It was a busy night so the service was a hit and miss at times, although the staff was friendly, it was a bit disorganised : several waiters coming to ask the same things, we asked for water and food several times too. The money bags were excellent but the meat dishes were overcooked and chewy. It was closer to chinese food rather than thai.

We just ordered delivery from Cafe Michael 2. We ordered the Red Curry Duck, Prawn Chilli Stir fry, rice and some chicken satay to start.
I have ordered from Cafe Michael 2 for delivery several times, they were the only good Thai that delivers in Adelaide for a long time.
My friend has just moved here and loved Thai food. I said ok, let's get cafe Michael, it's always delicious.
Tonight, it was terrible! We paid $65 for the above... Which is expensive and expected delicious traditional Thai food, instead we got bland, over cooked food that was almost inedible and definitely not worth the money we paid for it!!!
Extremely disappointed!

If you're ever in the east end area of town and feeling like some authentic Thai food, Cafe Micheal isn't a bad choice.

The word 'authentic' is often thrown a lot these day, but Cafe Micheal really did have an authentic feeling to their foods. I ordered the beef noodle soup, and it came out looking like it is what it would look like in Thailand. I really enjoyed the beef, it had a nice flavour too it, one that i couldn't quite put my finger on. It was well garnish with salads that provided a fresh sense to the soup. It was pretty much the Thai version of Vietnamese pho.

Overall, for the price of $9.90, you cant go wrong with it for a quick lunch. I would dine again.

Cafe Michael 2, one of many Thai restaurants on Rundle Street and once again the food was decent but not great. This restaurant offers lunch specials just like the others, starting at $9.90. I ordered the Tom Yum Prawns, and surprisingly the amount of food given was more than i expected. The "soup" given was great in the beginning, but it progressively got worse as it was really salty. The mushrooms inside the soup was also quite flavourless, but i guess thats good with such a salty soup. The prawns were quite small, like they were baby prawns, so in the end i ended up eating the rice with the soup alone like it was congee.

The design of the restaurant looked really old with wooden chairs and tables, but that may be to suit the cuisine they are serving. The cutlery given was also pretty cool, and i am certain it was purchased from overseas. However the table i was allocated to was a bit awkward as it was a tight space and right next to the counter. My shoulders kept getting bumped whenever someone walked past and it got quite annoying. The service was average as well, because there was only one waiter working during the busy lunch time.

To sum it up Cafe Michael 2, an average Thai restaurant with good lunch specials.

Thai Green Chicken Curry! Spicy, coconut rich, fresh herbs and tender chicken delight!!!! The service isn't the best but the food is consistent and tasty. A solid option if you fancy some Thai at lunchtime.
Zoe L
Got take away from here. Curry was good but the Pad Thai somehow tasted of nothing. Lots of vegetarian options and good knowledge of what is vegan. Not awful but also not great.
Laura
Okay Thai... Not bad but not really worth it unless you're in the vicinity. The green curry is quite good but the pad Thai is bland and needs loads of lemon for flavour.
Jason Peter
Dined here on 2 occasions during our Visit to Adelaide in April. Stumbled on the place at the middle of Rundle st and thought we would give it a try. Glad we did. Nice ambience and very friendly staff and owners. Come from Issan region of Thailand and really know how to cook tru Thai. On both nights we were given a complimentary starter either stuffed chicken wings or Barramundi both of which were excellent. The duck curry, fried rice, larp and noodle salad were all as good as you can get. Big meal at good value. Can't wait to go back.

Ordered from Cafe Michael 3 three hours ago, was hung up on when i called after 90minutes. Then told it was withe the delivery driver and would be here very soon. Then told they did not receive the order (confirmed they did with their chosen order company Zwift). Then told 20minutes. 25minutes late told on the way 7minutes. 15 minutes later called and yelled at by Raj Patell (apparently the owner) who wanted to know "if we wanted the food or not because if we didnt change our tone then he would not deliver" Raj who is claiming to be the owner also said earlier that he would have his manager reverse the charge to my credit card...does he own it or not??? Apparently everything they say is a lie! His justification, they receive 80 delivery order per night (I plan to relieve him of this onerous volume). He claims despite his numerous and ongoing lies that we are the ones who have a problem listening! Completely unprofessional. Completely disrespectful. Will NEVER go there again and plan to post in as many places as possible that they are shit and have the worst customer service in SA

“Great yellow curry and lovely staff”. My wife and I stumbled upon this restaurant after taking a late night walk from grenfel st nearby. We hadn't planned on Thai having has Thai for lunch. It was close and seemed busy with happy customers so we went in. We ordered the yellow curry and Tom Yum soup. The curry and the soup were spectacular. The curry was the best I have had with rich tastes, thick tender chunks of chicken, light and fluffy rice and a fantastic sav blanc wine. I couldn't fault the above meals. The fish cake was ok - nothing spectacular - but the other two more than made up for it. The staff were lovely and made us feel very welcome. We will be back

Great food from three around 60 years age old chefs(ladies). The creative Thai food in this place is better than a lot of food you'd find in Thailand. We asked for recommendations and weren't dissapointed by any. With a varied winelist and attentive, interested staff we had a great meal here. The location is pretty amazing too, right by the side of the harbour in a heritage building. I will be there every week sunday 6pm.

Great service, good value.. Have been to this fine establishment many times over the years never a bad experience, always busy the food is delicious and just the right amount of spice the service always friendly and professional love it great location and easy access to nightlife and public transport

Not what it was. We live right near CM2 and I remember a time when it was a very trendy spot. Went recently with a voucher offer (first time for several years) and was struck by how dowdy and tired the décor was. Its glory days are over and it surely needs a revamp. The food is sort of generic Asian: the prawns and snap peas were passable but the fried pork (mince) was terrible, like burnt offerings and virtually inedible. Prices are very high for the quality (and quantity) of food; the prawns were I think $28 on the menu. The voucher was, in itself, very good value: two starters, two main courses; two bottles of house wine which were drinkable but no more than that. Only $25 per person. No way would I pay the menu prices. I could eat better in the Mansions food court, just up the road. In fact, I have done.

BAD SERVICE EVER!!!. The food was ok, but not as nice as we had before. It's getting worse recently and the service seems to let the reputation down a lot. The staff was basically lack of hospitality skills when they served us.
Take a look on some websites which have CM2 reviews to find agreements of the bad service we had experienced. It seems like somebody trying to raise the rating up for the restaurant by making so many same compliments. That's ridiculous!!!

Disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. The food is consistently amazing but the service and delivery time is shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I waited for 2 hours for a delivery that never showed up. I tried calling them and it rang out constantly. I'll never order from there again and the worst of it is they have kept my $50 with no successful contact to arrange a refund!! I'm so disappointed and hungry!!!!!!

Nice food but not worth the effort. There are so many good restaurants in Adelaide, just give this a miss. After battling the fringe parking challenge, arrived just under 10 minutes late for our reservation time to be told we were late. Alarm bells should have gone off then. Ordered , entrees, mains and drinks. We then waited,. No drinks appeared but after about 40 minutes one by one the entrees arrived, with a 5 minute gap between them. 2 kids and 4adults at the table, so the kids tucked in and the adults waited. Once the Entrees all arrived we asked about the wine we had ordered, and the drinks for the kids? 2 glasses of wine and the soft drinks finally.appeared. we had also ordered a bottle of sav Blanc but never did get to see that.

The duck main was delivered for one of our diners, 30 minutes later out came the special fish balls... Now just 2 meals to go?
Eventually someone realised they didn't have the sav blanc we had ordered so came down to suggest something else. As it was now nearing 9 o'clock, we settled for a glass each instead. One was served in a small glass, and the other in a large one. When we queried the difference the waiter explained they had run out of big ones.

This whole situation was so bad it was funny. We started joking with nearby tables who were gnawing their arms... They offered to share their wine as ours still hadn't come. We also observed another couple with one main, waiting politely for the second to arrive.after asking for it 3 times over a 30 minute period.

We never did get the other 2 mains as by 9 o'clock we were heading off to a fringe show, so we cancelled them. just to add the final twist we were presented with the bill which included the non existent bottle of wine.

This was the most appalling service ever and the staff were unapologetic, although busy. Do not waste time on this restaurant, it is noisy too. the positive for me was the comraderie of our fellow diners who laughed along with us at the spectacular incompetence and poor service.
Ev
Rating of 69% is borderline. Lunch on a hot day definitely should not be here. 38 degree forecast and all they had were fans. It was uncomfortable. Food was ok. Lunch was served quickly and was hot. If I purchased the lunch time special I would have felt value for money. Main meals are expensive for what you receive. Would suggest look elsewhere and that 65% rating would be more suitable for the whole experience.

Shocking Service. Even though the food is okay from Café Michael 2, we will never order food from here again, nor eat in. Three times now (for work catering purposes) have I ordered food in advance (allowing a minimum of 24 hours notice) and each time I have given them the benefit of the doubt when the order has been incorrect or incomplete. Our last order on 24 October '14 was incorrect (again!) and when I went back to the restaurant to request that they fix the error (having paid in advance too), I was literally bombarded by accusations from five staff of them having given us the food (one missing meal!). I stood my ground (all the while being polite) but had three of five staff in my face, and the remaining two standing less than a metre from me, telling me loudly that the order was correct. Eventually, they agreed to make me the missing meal, for them to then "find" the missing meal on the counter which they had omitted to give to me when I collected it. Only one person (the chef) apologised but all other staff gave me the look of death. They will no longer get $300 per month out of us and were adamant on arguing over a $14 meal! This is not the first time I have encountered such rude behaviour from their staff - all the while it being their fault for providing incorrect meals or not including the full order - the past two times now I have checked the meal (or gone to check the meal) and had a staff member loudly telling me that the order is "all there", only to get it back to the office and find it is incomplete - including the last time on 24 October. I find this astonishing when they staple the receipt to the bags so providing incomplete orders is appalling - how hard is it to check off the receipt as you place the items into the bag! As I said, the food is "okay" - sometimes a bit dry, sometimes a bit bland when ordering a medium heat curry - so we will be taking our catering elsewhere from now on.

Excellent service. Waiters were attentive, food came out very quick. Daily special was good value. We went on Monday night, green curry chicken with rice and a Heineken was less than $19! One of us had whole snapper which was huge serving, delicious! The pad Thai was very good also. Highly recommend. All dishes we had were beautiful.
Mr. Flavin
Big servings. Order carefully.
Facebook User
Truly awful. This was worse than food court meals! Prices were ridiculous given the quality. Will never return. Decor worse than food court. This place once had an excellent reputation! Not now! Avoid!
Joie
Disgusting. I had lunch at Café Michael 2 today. It was the most disgusting food I have ever been served anywhere in the world. The fish cakes were very greasy, and tasteless apart from a faint tinge of stale fish. The crispy beef was a plate full (really - it covered the entire plate) of ?battered beef deep fried until it was nearly black, and served still dripping with oil. $71 for lunch where we left half the food behind because it was so bad, is not good value for money. I won't be going back.
Tash Colasante
Would not go back, I ordered the green chicken curry, the chicken was like plastic and I may as well bought the microwave Sunrice chicken curry from Coles
Candy Fco
Used to be my favourite, but quality has gone down in last few months.

Excellent!. Fantastic Thai food and friendly service.

Very disappointing...don't bother!

Haven't been here for dinner for a while. Food getting worse, very disappointed, had to request for heater twice for the waitress to turn it on! Won't come back again.

Fantastic for a date night! little gem in the east end of Adelaide that produces decent 4* Thai cuisine! easily the best Thai around Adelaide.
Crogga
Meh. The food took 1hr15mins to be delivered and it was pretty average. Pad Thai was dry, taste was okay. Penang Curry was way too liquidy, jungle curry wasnt hot or sour just sweet.
Phillip_graham
Dinner 20.6.13. What a shocker! Overpriced, tasteless food in a very dated setting. Money needs to be spent on a new fit out(toilets reminded me of Bangkok). Too expensive, service sporadic. Do yourself a favour and walk on by!
Kim
Such a beautiful restaurant! Amazing atmosphere, friendly staff! Clean and delicious meals, cooked perfectly! The desserts were absolutely amazing!! Will definately be coming up here time and time again!! Thanks for such a wonderful evening!!
Sweet.suga
Loved it. We were very impressed - great food and really reasonable price with generous portion sizes. The staff were quite friendly as well. Would definitely recommend it for an awesome Thai Food fix in Adelaide!!
Matt
Sadly, not as good ad it used to be, and now quite overpriced as well.
John Stell
Maybe we were there too late, but the decor was tired and the staff more interested in laying tables rather than serving us. Food was ok, but very large portions and expensive. Go to Spices next door.
John Doe
PAD AND PEN. Every time something is left off the order. Soup, salad, once a curry, and drinks.

Use a pad and pen and you make more money, we are happier, everybody wins. Duh. What are you trying to prove. Write it down!

Foods awesome! Go chefs.
Rod Gillett
Awesome mains and service. Entree was dry. Busy night and would go back.
BritAbroad
Nice spice. We grabbed an early dinner here during the Fringe Festival and were impressed with the speed of service and quality of the food, especially as a large birthday party was kicking off as we sat down. Families were made welcome, space made for strollers etc. Would defnitely return.
Stephen Hardacre
Reputation undeserved. Hadn't been here for a long time and remembered it as having good Thai food.
The squid had the texture of rubber and the vegetables were sloppy.
I ordered medium hot and it nearly took the roof of my mouth off!
So much so that all taste was obliterated.
I won't be back
Lennox
Fantastic place for Authentic Thai! Awesome flavours, friendly staff, Quirky place to eat day or night! 4*
Foodyforlife
Had a really enjoyable experience here due to friendly staff, a good vibe and of coarse - delicious, fresh food (that is served incredibly quick)! Recommend any of the soups and nam tok beef salad! Yum!
Forever Foodie
Breakfast, lunch and dinner YUM!. I would happily live on the Prawn Choo Chee Curry, Nam Tok Salad, Phad Thai and Green Chicken Curry... morning, noon and night... thankfully they deliver so I nearly can!!! Having spent considerable time in Thailand... this is truly authentic Thai. Yet to find a Green Chicken Curry of it's equivalent in Adelaide.
HH
Very average food. Ordered chicken Penang curry that was on specials board for $27. Tasted more like a green curry without the heat. Pretty tasteless. Service was good. I should have read the reviews before coming here
The Mat
Due to the lack of decent dining on Rundle Street I always end up at cafe Michael 2. Food is always ok with pretty average service. I'd go again but not on a regular basis.
Eflex
Hospital food.... If you were sick and wanted some invalid food like boiled chicken in water with plain noodles, you could come here. That's what the lunch special Thai green curry was like. No coconut cream sauce, no other vegetables, no chilli, just a sprig of coriander on top in a grey gruel. Despite sending it back uneaten still was charged for it, as I discovered later. Left with a bad taste in my mouth, for more than one reason.
L Philly
The green chicken curry has always been a winner and i have yet to find a better one elsewhere.
Reynolds Gaw
Totally crappy. Ordered panang beef curry today which was totally devoid of flavour. Tasted like beef tossed into coconut milk. The pad thai was also very soggy and just not what you'd expect for the price. Will not be returning. Never.
Customer
Appalling service and food. Have been a regular customer but tonight discovered why all the negative reviews are completely justified. With so many fantastic Thai restaurants in Adelaide, don't bother with Cafe Michael. The food is inconsistent....as I discovered tonight, an extremely low quality. Gristly meat, undercooked rice. But worst of all was the appalling service by an extremely rude manager who refused to bring my correct order!!! Apparently the customer is ridiculous for wanting what they ordered, and should just eat what is brought to them by mistake. I was expected to pay for an incorrect meal but could take it up with the owner the next day!

Just Terrible. Adelaide is one of the best locations in the world for great food however, Cafe Michael 2 is a rare culinary blemish on this great city. My wife and I had dinner here on our visit to Adelaide this week and it must be the first time we've walked away from a restaurant in this city disappointed for years. The two overpriced vegetarian spring rolls were just that, overpriced. the Pad Thai left me asking myself Pad why?.....gluggy, oily and prepared with the indifference and comfort, characteristic of a long established icon passed it's day. The Green Curry Chicken was small bowl, brimming with grey thigh meat, but no more than that, not a vegetable within cooee of this bowl of blandness. There are so many better option in the vicinity of this restaurant and if you want Thai, give it a wide berth!

I went for a friend's birthday on Saturday night 17th march. It was very busy. Food was good but not the red soup with mushroom from the banquet menu. It was awful!!!. Service average but we didn't wait long.

Average food and poor service. Staff need to get a bit happier and more aware of the menu. Popular due to lack of better options.

Odd. Been here over a dozen times in the last decade or so & never got rude treatment, some claim. This is one of the few decent places lrft on Rundle st for lunch and is as authentic as you'd ever require. Be careful about orderind extra spice! And the serves can be rather small on the lunch specials.

Had a dinner for 12 for a friends birthday. The AC was not working so it was crazy hot. When they delivered the banquet there was not enough food to go around, so when we complained they kicked up a fuss, and leaving the table the head waiter said "whatever". Not good enough guys.

Worst takeaway treatment. Been ordering food from CM2 for 15 years. Last time tonight! Apparently coins is no longer a currency to this restaurant??? Sadly, got 2 rude verbal phone call an from the staff name Ben an hour later. Very sadly this is probably just poor staff ethics. And tonight the food was average. There are nice ways of saying things and rude ways and this guy was definitely out of line! Pity!

Very Disappointed. This place served average shopping mall style dishes. Service was good at the start but once the food arrived we were forgotten. Only one drink was offered, staff seemed more interested in new arrivals. Drunken noodles at $19.90??? over priced, an taste??? Well what taste. Also basil beef at &$18.50 no chilli and bland bland bland. After plates not being cleared decided to pay at the bar/kitchen/ office/ checkout guy asked how was it... After handing over my credit card and mentioning it was bland and flavourless. The response was basically "that's too bad" and was then charged the full amount, not that I was looking for discount. But if offered would of left and maybe came back and try something different next time. Well there will be no next time for me.

Good authentic Thai food at a reasonable price. Beware of corkage - $7 per person!

Food is worst than cat food, HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND.

Dissapointed. On the recommendation of a friend we got some take away from Cafe Michael 2. It was sadly dissapointing. The pandan chicken was close to burnt. The spring rolls were greasy. The beef was chewy. The pad thai resembled food court pad thai. The asian greens were nice though. Wont be going back.

So good.. Staff is always friendly, and on the off-chance they do omit something from your order, it is quickly fixed.
Always searching at other places for the type of tofu CM2 use, really can't beat it though. Best Thai in Adelaide.

Great Thai takeaway in Adelaide. Takeaway from here is brilliant (had it two nights in a row!). It arrived hot and in a timely manner, and flavours were spot on. Love it.

Food ok. Waitress' nice. Manager with freko haircut extremly rude. Was verbally abused. Never going back. Disapponted!

Average compared to Regent. For the best THAI in Oz try Longrain in Sydney, world class.

The best Thai food I've ever had!!! Very authentic - fantastic staff and great atmosphere. Reasonably priced - would definitely recommend it!!

CM2 is a long going Adelaide institution with authentic fare (better than the poor excuses in Sydney!) I would say that none of the food would be foreign to that served at a bhuddist temple... And that the recipies have been tempered to Western tastes without compromising authenticity. Luckily, you can order dishes in mild medium and O my god it's hot! Larp and green curry is excellent.

Pretty good had banquet with 9 others busy Friday lunch worked well. Waiter was part of the ambience.

Not that great. Had big hopes based on what we had heard. But food was average, especially the entrees. Heaps of attitude from the waiter too

Cafe Michael 2 is small and cosy, and the whole restaurant, both inside and out, would seat around 30 people. The decor is modern and stylish, and the service here is excellent.

Every dish was so tasty and authentic! Loved how you can adjust the spiciness of your dishes (Mild, medium, hot) and the chilli was really really good (not sweet unlike some other places). Special mention goes out to the Whole fish with red vegetable curry sauce. Super yummy and the fish was so fresh. PLUS the curry really tasted Thai if you know what I mean You can
