Review Payneham Tavern - Adelaide

Had dinner tonight with friends. Had heard it was under new management. I was very impressed with the service, we were made to feel very welcome and the food was very tasty and well presented. I won’t hesitate to recommend to family and friends. I think that the manager is doing a lot to improve the atmosphere within the hotel with promoting quizz nights and Mothers Day luncheons etc. I look forward to returning again.

Great food, music & atmosphere! The roast pork was so good & the salt & peper calamari too! The 2 guys who were there were so welcoming. And we had free use of their billiards table what a treat!

Nice friendly staff. Plenty of tables, well spread out. The service was quick and the food was very good. Lovely chips.

Once again they have proven themselves to be lack luster. Low grade meals for high prices. Never again. Third time to test the food, this time was on a voucher from the previous attempt. Don't waste your time, go to Macca's.

I must admit I just pulled in to have a quick play on the pokies. Gaming room set up nice very clean can't comment on the staff, I wasn't there long enough. all modern machines. I put in a $100 and got my $100 back.

Used to come here a lot over the years, even though it used to be called Charlie's diner back in the day As the pub is kept clean and tidy, the staff are friendly and the food is delicious as always

I thought the experience was quite enjoyable and the staff were quite friendly. The waitress apologised for the garlic cream sauce not being on point as they had a change of ingredients, offering to take it back if I did not like it. Being upfront about the situation is always good when dining. The garlic bread was to die for and my steak was perfect. I quite like the spacing in the bistro as it does not make you feel like you’re dining on top of each other.

It is a Pub, not a Restaurant! The food I had was excellent. A day on my own and I found myself at the Payneham Tavern. Many, many pubs, and many many pub meals...............I decided to go for the Salt and Pepper Calamari...........and I was glad that I did. I have tended to quantify pub meals by two things, the burger or the squid!!!!!!!!! This meal was fantastic....I have never, ever had better Calamari. It is a dish that can be so great or a total disaster.......this offering was sublime.......the Calamari was cooked to absolute perfection.....moist, properly cooked, the coating of seasoned flour just hanging on to the flesh.....just the right amount of seasoning, not too much salt and just enough pepper, obviously white. To the guys in the kitchen, you got it right..................very, very right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Came here with family, ordered a dozen oysters for main and 3x mains. The oysters came out after waiting for 50 mins. After finishing oysters, waited another 15 mins and the mains still weren't served. I asked the lady at the front counter, (lady with long red hair and big black framed glasses), who proceeded to check with the kitchen. She came back out with our mains and placed them down on our table with NO apology for the lateness. A simple "sorry for the wait" would have sufficed, but there was NONE of that. Even the patrons who entered the restaurant after we arrived , had their mains served before us. It appears that if I had not approached the lady at the front counter, they would have completely forgotten to serve our mains. Completely disgusting customer service from the lady with red hair and black glasses. What a shame. Wanted to take dad out to a nice meal and ended up having to put up with disgusting customer service.

Nice and spacious. We went there with two children and luckily they had a children's menu. Children liked their food. The staff were friendly. Schnitzel and pasta were good but salad bar was a bit disappointing.

Great place. Was able to watch 2 rugby tests on comfortable seats with great drinks, great meals and great service. Would recommend, particularly if you're keen on your rugger.

A nice experience. It was lovely to find a pub meal that hasn't gone all "la de da". The menu had a lovely variety, it was a relaxed setting. Staff were fantastic and the food lovely. It was their Steak night which was very reasonably priced, look forward to going back again.

Not Too Bad. Visited this hotel for the 1st time, for dinner on Melbourne Cup Day.

I ordered the crumbed prawns and my friend had the coconut curry chicken. My meal was okay - found the prawns a bit 'soggy' but the chips were great and the self serve salad bar was a nice touch. My friend had no complaints at all.

For desert we both had the mini donuts with banana gelati and white chocolate ganache. Very tasty and even though one of the donuts had gone 'hard' from excessive reheating, we both gave it an 8/10.

Friendly staff, who gave us a free coffee each after we told them about the donuts. Great PR!

Not a trendy hotel but comfortable.

:(:(. The baked barrmundi was just average, and the staff were extremely rude!

Very pleasant dining. We were diverted to the Payneham Tavern only because their 'sister' pub, the Hampstead Hotel Bistro, was full. However, we decided to give it a try and were very happy with it. For one thing, there was no crowd and the tables are more spaced out and made it a quiet-ish and peaceful dining experience.

The staff were friendly and the service was prompt.

The food was good value for money. Generous serves of the barra and squid, both of which were cooked just right. the barra being moist with a great 'topping' and the squid crisp and not drowning in oil.

Happy to return.

Awful.. The Payneham Tavern's food is exactly what you would expect from the way it looks from the outside.. Bland, overcooked, often old and all in all horrible. I have been there with my wife a handful of times on the way home from work, a convenient place for us to grab a bite to eat and a pint, however after the experiences recently, we will not be returning. The chips are always old, re-fried, soggy or cold. How hard is it to fry chips??!! The complimentary salad and veg bar was beyond belief, my pasta salad was clearly off, tasting sour and feeling very slimy. The other options consisted of various brown salads and brown veg, swimming in cream or oil, and quite clearly should not have been placed in the buffet. The steaks are dramatically overpriced, and tasted heavily of "cool room" - that is to say that they were clearly old and have been sitting in the fridge for far too long. This pub has ruined my confidence in trying out suburban pubs, and we will not be returning.

Great Food Great service Great Price !!!. Saturday lunch at Payneham tavern was a Delight ! As soon as we entered we were greeted and made to feel extremly welcome. I ate Ginger Chilli prawns, my husband the Beef Snitzel with garlic Prawn sauce, The salad and veg bar was fresh and tasty. Both our meals were lovely and speedy ! There were mostly seniors enjoying their lunch, but this is a trend we have noticed with the suburban pubs.
