Review The Balti House - Adelaide

Close parking, friendly staff/owners, reasonable prices, good quality food and the option of traditional or British versions. The house wine was good too! Clean premises were a bonus, first time been but not the last

Delicious food, with almost too many options! The lady who served us was friendly, welcoming and helpful. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, music not too loud. Generally could not fault this establishment. And... (something that should be a given in all places, but often isn't!! ) beautiful clean cutlery, and clean glasses. A lovely evening, thanks Balti!

So both my Husband and I ate at The Balti House "British Style Indian Restaurant" We were not disappointed. The portions were generous and cooked to perfection and tasted just like our Local Indian Restaurant back home in the UK. The Waitress was very Friendly and accommodating. The Restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere and was nice and clean. I clearly got over excited and ordered way too much food and then had to ask for takeaway containers to bring it home. Although this is a bit of a drive from Aldinga Beach we will most definitely be returning to The Balti House...it does exactly what it says on the tin !!! 100% British Style Indian Food...it's a 10 from us 😊

Nothing special. Difficult to go in when the place was empty. As for them stating they serve British Indian food. I don't think you do. I was born in UK and lived their most of my life and this is very disappointing for British Indian food which is regarded as some of the best in the world.

Everything was overpriced. They served the biriany in a kitchen tray. Quantity was very low according to the price. That 2 stars is just for the girl who was working at the front had friendly behaviour otherwise I would have given it 1 star .

Overall a bit disappointing. On a cold night they seated us next to the door in a near empty restaurant. Only one person serving and one cooking. They prioritised take away over us and we didn’t get mains until over an hour after we’d arrived. By then only 4 other people were eating in (one with a book, so I guess he’d been before). The dishes were not generous in size but quite nice, albeit sweet. The chairs need replacing. I wanted to like it, but was a bit underwhelmed.

Brilliant feed at the Balti house, sure enough it is British style curries which if you’re from the uk it will most definitely remind you of you’re favourite curry house from home. Tasty food, full of flavour and reasonable prices. Will definitely be heading back soon. Chicken bhuna is worth a shout on its own. Thank you!

Really tasty!!!!! Will become my favourite Indian restaurant in Adelaide. Their customer service was excellent. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

The food was average at best. What lowered the score was the complete absence of any type of customer service at all. They were more interested in filling their menu log orders than taking acre of any customers within the restaurant. Please, do yourselves a favour and close the restaurant and only do take away. This is obviously where the money lies.

We love Indian, but this was terrible. The Butter Chicken - a $15 special was literally a chicken kebab/skewer from Woolies in a can of chicken soup. Not even 2 skewers….just the one. Would have cost them at most $2 to make. The other special - the lamb tikka masalla looked really bland and tasted really bland! We couldn't eat it, and we're not fussy eaters, honestly! Only good thing was the 20% discount for ordering on a Monday.

Disappointing - very bland. I know that korma is mild but this just had no flavour at all and the other guests I was with didn't enjoy their meals.

Food was average. Service was terrible. I have been to Balti House twice and both times I was told I could not have the food I wanted. The first time I ordered 4 naans to share between four people and a guy came out from the kitchen to tell me I ordered too many naans. I was very embarrased and asked politely if I could please just have 4 naans. He refused and I didn't bothet to argue with him. While I was waiting for my food people kept coming out from the kitchen to look at me, I felt very unucomfortable at this point. I thought I'd give the place a second try and I wish I hadn't. I asked if the vegetable dish had enough rice for two people and was told it was only enough for one person. I asked if I could order extra rice and was told I could not. I ended up ordering two serves of vegetable dish just for more rice and one serve ended up being enough for two people. I am very displeased with the service and I have had better indian food elsewhere. I will not be coming back

Quite nice; however, for value & taste, doesn't compete with Ali Baba!

Delicious and different to your usual Indian take away and sooo tasty!! Big Naan, rice for 1 is plenty for 2, highly recommend the Lamb Roganjosh! This is our new favourite Indian spot (in an area full of good Indian takeaway spots!) definitely worth it!

Wow! Best Indian in SA by far. I'm from England and this is bang on. Tried lots of Indians here and they have all been bland and taste the same. So happy to have found balti house as was really missing Indian food! This restaurant should definatly have a higher rating. They are really friendly! A definite must

Ordered a mid-week takeaway this week as we decided to give this place a go & not our usual Indian takeaway. We had chicken biryani & a beef balti curry. I prefer the biryani, the vegetarian curry that came with it was really delicious. The beef curry was a bit bland in my opinion. Overall, a standard Indian meal.

Good service, VERY average food. I took my family here for dinner. The service was very good, however the food was very disappointing. Nobody was pleased with their meal. The curries were very plain and there was nothing special about any of the dishes. I would not recommend this place.

Delicious!. Every time I have ordered here, the food has been amazing and I have never once been disappointed.

I come here especially because they use chicken breast in their dishes. Chicken Tikka Massalla, Onion Bhajee and Garlic Naan bread are some of my favourites...I highly recommend.

I only wish they delivered haha.

Service by Sultan is impeccable and the food is delicious!! It's been quite a whiles since I have come across an Indian food that lives to the name of spicy... Refreshing change! Highly recommend to anyone that enjoys authentic Indian food.

Service leaves a bit to be desiredbut food was ok. Nothing amazing just solid suburban Indian. Had better and had worse.

This is by far the best Indian restaurant in Adelaide! All the food is cooked fresh and the choice is huge. Whatever style of curry you like, they will have. I have never had a bad meal here and would highly recommend this restaurant to everybody.

Yes its a taste of home (brilliant). Over the last two months i have had takeaway several times.
First thing, someone mentioned it being pricey, well it’s not that bad, $12.50 upto $20.00 for the house special and any way the servings are in the proper foil containers like in the uk (the big and deep ones). And the food is bang on? Easily feed 2 -3 people per dish.

As the Indian chef is previously from uk he has definitely brought to English experience here – i think he worked in rusholme Manchester also. The food and taste is typical British Indian and with the deep flavors and way way way away from the stuff they call curry over here.

The garlic nan is just like uk and so nice, the pilau rice coloured pink and white just like uk and tasty, the shami kebabs are also authentic and all the starters you get the little bags of salad with a lemon and the side dip of mint yoghurt or the mango dip.

Ive had Chicken Tikka Massala, Chicken Balti , Lamb Balti and the biryani and the house special starter and other stuff. AMAZING. All of the above was takeaway. Get it home and enjoy, you'll be back ASAP for more.
Love it, going again now.

This curry shop sells itself as English style curry and that's what you get. The Balti dishes are a standout. Step 1: drink lager. Step 2: go to Balti house and order chicken Balti extra spicy with rice and naan. Step 4: eat. Step 5: go home and sit on couch and watch football. Only criticism would be that they use chicken breast instead of thigh which is not quite as tender in a curry but not an issue really.

It was okay.. Pretty over priced for Indian takeaway. The meats were all a bit over cooked which was disappointing

Mel & I dropped in for some takeaway based on the Urbanspoon rating. Ordered the chicken biryani and chicken tikka. We were told that it'd be 15 mons and that suggested it would be fresh and we weren't disappointed. Flavours were fantastic and we didn't feel we had an inferior food experience by having it takeaway - they even packed garnishes and sauce for the tikka separately. Strongly recommended.

Hands down the best Indian in SA. I may be biased, being a pom, and this being a British-style Indian restaurant, but I'm a massive curry lover, and the Balti House has never disappointed me. The menu is huge, and everything so flavoursome. The staff are always so friendly. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, and am a regular!

Food was really good but the service was really slow.

Indian Millswood June 17, 2014 It's a very quiet night at The Balti House. Just me and a table of four here. I had assumed this place would be Baltic cuisine, but it turns out to be Indian. Just as long as it's not Balti Towers. ;D :| Kurma (chicken) and pilau rice 6/10 Mild, creamy sauce, cooked with coconut and almond meal in a rich creamy sauce. The rice is kind of mealy. I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to be, but I prefer rice to be firm but soft, sticky, and uniform. It has a slight chilli taste of its own. The "kurma" itself has a slight curry taste, and in taste and texture slightly resembles pear purée. The almond meal adds an odd the odd crunchy texture of pear. This is a pleasant taste, but not a strong or exciting one.

For those that are interested, Balti is a type of curry served in a thin, pressed steel-like wok bowl. The ingredients include freshly blended spices, tomatoes, capsicum and onions. At this particular place, customers get the choice of various proteins such as vegetables, beef, chicken, lamb or prawn. Apart from that, the other offerings look like your typical Indian fare.

The Balti House on Goodwood road in Millswood south of center of Adelaide was set up by its Bangladeshi owner, Sultan Ahmed, to fill a void in the supply Balti style Anglo - Indian currys that originated in Birmingham.
