On Friday night my work colleges and I had a wonderful dinner at Chennai Palace. The ten of us were seated in some cosy booth seating next to their impressive function room. Our group had a collection of tastes to cater to and they delivered. Vegan, vegetarian and omnivores alike all left completely satiated. We had mixed entree to start with, which was comprised of their chicken tikka from the tandoori, the best samosas the group had ever tried and pakoras with paneer and mixed veg in their cumin spiked batter. Main comprised of naans, rice, a vegan eggplant dish which was the tables favourite, vegan dhal, saag paneer, butter chicken, a South Indian prawn curry and tender goat curry served on the bone. Everything was perfectly spiced and the heat of all dishes, meant that everyone enjoyed their meal and no one struggled through a wall of chilli. We finished our meal with the Gulab Jaman which was just the right size after such a large meal. The prices on the menu are all very reasonable and they BYO too. Be sure to crack open a Kingfisher Beer and have the best Indian Food outside of India

Absolutely amazing food! The rice, of all things, is perfect (not one grain sticks to another) very light and fluffy. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. I can't say enough about this place. It is always my first restaurant i go to & is always the first for me to recommend.

My Son’s First Birthday Party I had the most wonderful birthday party of my son’s first year, which I hosted on 4th July in Chennai Palace. The service was excellent, value was good and the party hall was cosy and atmospheric with gorgeous light fittings and fixtures. Chennai palace has always been a top favorite of mine - one of the reasons being its owners Vasanth and Poongudi, who are really enterprising and accommodative given any circumstance. The food was amazing and having a buffet allowed a taste of everything. I chose the Chicken 65, Kadai paneer and carrot halwa which was divine. All food was prepared afresh with nice level of warmth - tasty but not too spicy - and just enough to enjoy the full meal. It was the perfect end to an excellent day and I had such a good time/meal/experience, I'm going to give full 5 stars and am already eagerly anticipating my next visit! This place is definitely worth a visit and it certainly won't break the bank!

The best Dosas in Adelaide. So if you love dosas stop reading and head on down to Chennai Palace. We've also tried the beautiful briyanis, naans and curries and they didn't disappoint. Will be back for sure! Service and staff were great and made excellent recommendations.

Headed to this place for their lunch buffet on weekends. Just for 2 hours between 11-1, but this was worth it for just $15. Nice place with a crowded hall near the buffet, so we settled in the tables near the entrance.

They had chapathi's, poori's, itly's(white spongy thing), cooked cous cous with vadei's and delicious curries to match it. Very well flavored, but they could've made the sambar with a bit more seasoning. We ordered a masala, then onion thosai and a coffee. The masala thosai was okay though the onion thosai was a disaster with a plain thin thosai with plain onions in the middle. Coffee wasn't good in a country known for it.

Overall a good and worthwhile experience, just don't order their coffee nor onion thosai.

Slightly nervous, having read all the reviews, but encouraged by the fact that the bad ones were mainly old reviews. It wasn't good when it first opened. Went anyway since the place is near to home.
Findings: very warm smile to welcome us, lovely waiting staff, great food (Manni from the old Rang Mahal is back) and much less than $100 for 4 including wine! Phew, glad to have decent Indian nearby again.

We enjoyed an evening meal at Chennai Palace on a hot January night. I am surprised to read some of the reviews here because we had a delicious meal. Samosas, chilli cheesy chicken, prawn malabar, butter chicken, rice and naan were all delectable and the total was all reasonably priced. I would not hesitate to return. If it was my place, I would engage an interior designer to do a new fab modern fitout.

Located in the trendy suburb of Walkerville is Chennai Palace. As the largest Indian restaurant in South Australia, it certainly is a palace, boasting a seating capacity of over 200, a function hall, an outdoor beer garden and plenty of car parking space at the rear. Specialising in South Indian cuisine, the owners have been in hospitality for over 3 generations, and the Executive Chef has over 4 decades of experience. Unlike other restaurants, the menu is not over the top with a decent selection of starters, mains and vegetarian options.

I've ordered takeaway twice and been very satisfied both times. Mostly I tend to go for tikka masala, vindaloo and madras dishes and I'm a sucker for a good chilli cheese naan.

Really I never forget chennai palace restaurant and staff members in my life . They r doing wonderful job .
They r ready to do anything what the customer wants @ reasonable . I also recently understood how they r doing good in my son's first birthday function over there.
I would like to give a five star rating to this restaurant.
They charged for our function quite reasonable prices . Even though DJ , decoration , photography, and photo booth I got these people through them @ reasonable price.. Their's prices r very economic compare to others ,,,
After finishing my party they helped to us for shifting the things as I requested .Because , I got so tired when party finish,,,
According to us wonderful journey,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Groupon Voucher enjoyable experience. My partner and I enjoyed a 3 course meal with a glass of wine each at Chennai Palace. The chicken tikka to start was tender and well portioned. For mains we shard mango chicken and lamb vindaloo with rice both were pleasant and full of flavor we also ordered naan bread so were very full when we received our dessert but still managed to finish them anyway! This was a great value meal. The atmosphere although dimly lit was quite good and our waitress was nice. I will be back.

Groupon Voucher. We bought a Groupon voucher for this place without looking at Urbanspoon first. mistake, turns out we were lucky as far as the food was concerned. We had Naan and 3 vegetarian mains. The food was exceptional and I'd go back in a heartbeat, provided I called to confirm a couple of things first, keep reading. I would be a little worried if I was a meat eater based on previous posts. The craziest thing was the party in the back/side room. The Indian hip-hop was cranked so loud we were unable to speak to each other and we were about 10 meters from the party in a different section of the restaurant. A couple other tables appeared to be very surprised with the volume also. When we asked if they could turn it down, the waitress said it was a party, as if we should just understand. Completely absurd. It did die down somewhat after that though and the wait staff were courteous and the service wasn't bad.

Nice but not worth the travelling. First time dining here tonight. Went with a friend and used a "Deals.com.au" voucher.
For $20 each, we received 3 courses and a small glass of house wine.

The shared entrée of Chicken Tikka, was beautifully tender.

My friend chose the Beef Madras as her main and I picked my favourite, Butter chicken. Served with a small bowl of rice to share.
Both mains were very nice and the serves quite big enough.

Desert was home made pistachio icecream - very sticky and quite a heavy texture, without any real taste. Certainly not the highlight of the meal.

My friend said that she would prefer a lemonade to a glass of wine. He brought the lemonade and then at the end of the meal, he charged her $4 for it. A bit rude we thought, as the house wine would have been the same cost or maybe more expensive even.

On the whole, we enjoyed the dinner and the service was quite good (a Tuesday night and only 3 other couples, so not busy).

Certainly worth the $20 we paid but there are Indian cuisine restaurants closer to where I live, that serve food that is just as nice - so I won't be travelling the 45 minutes to get there again. Well worth trying though, if you live in the Walkerville area. They do takeaway as well..... All in all, 7/10.

Excellent South Indian breakfast (tiffin) options on the buffet. Dosa of choice can be ordered along with the buffet as well. Every item was well prepared and very tasty. Especially surprised by the red rice idli. Must try if you are pining for Indian food.

Best south Indian restaurant in Adelaide and suburbs... Their parrota and chicken curry is best. Dosa also must try one. I have attended a party the party space music system decorations all good. Their toilets are very clean. Pic is from my second visit. Had chicken lollypop and chettinad chicken curry this time . Both are very good. They have a new item in desert Jigarthanda, as a madurai girl I loved it . It is exactly same like we had back in my home. Missed to take pics since finished it in no time.... 😋😋

We recently hosted a party at their banquet hall for about 60 people. The owners offered me a good selection of food at an unbeatable price. They did the special decor to make the place perfect for the party. Awesome food and lovely ambience! The guests left with lots of positive review about this place.
