Review The Avenue Food Store - Albert Park

Came here after a bad experience with another cafe up the street, complete opposite experience. Staff are lovely, food is great and a very relaxed atmosphere. Recommend sitting outside on a nice day!

Spacious and friendly. A good variety of food, both hot and cold. Staff are attentive and the cafe is tidy. Plenty of outdoor seating and seating also available indoor. My pick was the slow cooked pulled beef lasagne. As good as it sounds.

Just dropped at in to get a cup of coffee for takeaway. It was good coffee, so I'd like to revisit tn have some food here.

Service was good and quick, place was neat and tidy with plenty of room. Ordered the bacon egg foccacia and the sausage burger. Both were cooked and prepared well, served promptly. But both lacked any flavour at all, was borderline bland / disgusting.

My fav café. Very friendly staff, delicious food. My all-time fav is avocado smash with poached egg 👌 and a fresh juice. Check it out for yourself!

The Avenue Food Store is one of the best cafes in this area. The coffee, freshly juiced OJ and food are great (I love the trout salad) and the outdoor seating area on a nice day is the best. It's a great place for breakfast or lunch or just a coffee of OJ. The staff is super friendly and the service pretty good too. The cafe is also bike and dog friendly.

Thanks for the lovely scrambled eggs on toast this morning. I liked how your music is very soft and ambient which is good for people like me that suffer from sensory overload.

If you feel $8.50 for a Soy Chai is reasonable, this is the café for you. The price builds like this: $6.50 for a large $1 extra for soy $1 extra for extra large When I go to Woolworths, soy milk is $0.30 extra per litre. So, most of that extra Soy charge must be for programming an extra button into the cash register, and reaching an extra 10cm past the full cream milk. Or, is it punishment for being lactose intolerant? Is this soyisim 😊 Then the extra $1 for extra large. Sure the cup costs a few cents more, there is about 100ml more of soy. Again … about $1.30 a litre, so that $0.13 of Soy Milk for $1. Labour per cup doesn’t really change as each cup, small, large, extra large takes about the same amount of time to make. Suddenly my willingness to support the local café isn’t what it once was.

The worst experience after 14 years in the hospitality industry: would not recommend to anyone. Ordered my order of standard eggs for 2 people at the counter, of which I added at the end make one just one slice of toast to save the food I would not eat to which the older woman serving me said "for f***s sake". I was in such shock I didn't know if I had imagined her saying that until I saw the face of others around me. The rudest woman I have ever met and after working in some of Melbourne most successful cafes and restaurants in Melbourne I would have left had my partner not been very very hungry. Prices on the menu also did not reflect the true price such as bacon stated as $4 side was actually $6.50 and came as two small slices. There were many things after that but the customer service was just appalling and sad. Everyone has their bad days but such behaviour to a customer having worked for 14 years in the industry myself, is inexcusable. As a local in Albert park, will never go back nor recommend to anyone.

The moment I sat down I was concerned when I looked at the menu, the prices were cheap which surprised me for such a popular coffee + food spot in Albert Park. The menu was boring and didn’t offer much, if you love sandwiches, pies and salad you’re in luck but for proper brunch and lunch food I felt the menu lacked massively. The prices are reflective of the level of food served unfortunately. I had the smashed avo and ordered sour dough bread but it came out on a thick (underdone) rye. I asked it to be swapped to which they replied this is “their sourdough”. Not that it matters but everyone was over 50 except me, just not my scene at all and will never return. Very few vegetarian options.

Good reliable spot with down to earth service and honest food. Great for late breakfast when you may be feeling a little rough. Order before 3:30.

I ate breakfast at this restaurant a few weeks ago. I am still fuming with this establishment. I ordered an omelette. The taste was average. I went to finish my meal and there was some broken plastic in the dish (order smoked salmon) and i nearly ate the plastic. I handed the plastic shard to the owner and left. I will never visit again.

Been here for coffee and breakfast a few times but staff always seem grumpy. Menu looks good and I'm sure it is but the pancake stack was missing the maple syrup and only one toast with 2 poached eggs. Probably won't be back, shame as it's otherwise a good spot but rather go elsewhere with a more friendly fresh vibe.

A long standing local in Albert Park, The Avenue has always been a reliable stop for a coffee and something yummy to eat! Unusual to get a table so easily, the cold weather may have scared a few people off but we are toasty from our walk and happy to take an outside table. A couple of large skinny flat whites arrive after a little while, we aren’t in a hurry so no worries for us! Not the most amazing coffee but the super fresh squeezed juice is amazing! The menu is a good mix of old favourites – crepes, french toast, muesli, eggs benedict and omeletes. There are even more choices in the counters cabinets with giant, fresh salads with marinated beef, roasted vegetable and smoked trout. There are slabs of frittata, arancini and fish cakes – just gorgeous! Hubbies crepes with bananas and strawberries are good! A generous serve of pancakes with plenty of fresh fruits and a light dusting of sugar. My giant vegetable filo with fresh salad is lovely! It is huge but it is packed full of spinac

Bad Need I say more? Fi.... Bad
Need I say more?

First time drinking flat white with half milk and half foam!
First time being asked for payment before I could complete my order, yes, straight away asked for payment of coffee before I have the chance to order my food!

Middle of the road. It's ok, could be better. It all feels a bit like a cafeteria, is it table service or order at the counter? Laminated menus, cheap prices. It sort of plays as two things; classy cafe on a corner with tables outside, cheap and less glamourous inside. Food is ok but not excellent, prices are very good, service is never outstanding. If I have $20 in my wallet and was really hungry I may stop by but it's not a destination restaurant despite having lots of items I like in the menu.

Mixed Feelings. Fabulous cafe, with great coffee and food (hats off to the chef's). Service is fair to average. mainly dragged down by waitresses/counter staff that dont speak english well and have trouble understanding requests (they dont even tell you what they are giving you and have trouble when you ask for something to be heated up... its frustrating). There are a few blokes you seem to know what they are doing but it means little when the ship has always been sunk.
overall great food and coffee, poor service .... wont be going back there.

Stopped in for a take away latte...I'm often disappointed with the temperature of milky coffees, but this was perfectly hot! Very impressed, will return!

With two lots of O/S visitors in tow over three days we went to the Avenue four times, for Breakfast and lunch. My friends enjoyed both the food and coffee. Been visiting there for years and the coffee quality is consistent

Words cannot express..... I'm not sure what to think of Avenue. There's always a crowd of people there, but I find it all a bit puzzlingly average.
Coffee's okay, food is okay. Service is okay (with one exception.) It's all just - okay.
I find it can feel a bit English-caff-from-the-90's, what with the chairs and ordering at the counter. I do like to prices, by far the cheapest breakfasts in Albert Park. The chips were okay, a bit oily. (There's that "okay" again!) My boyfriend says the crepes are good.

Special mention MUST go the the waitress, who provided me with some of the most stunningly sullen service I've ever received. She did not say one word to us. No "You're welcome." Not even the types of coffee passed her lips when she bought them to our table. I waited for her to speak, to confirm who was having which coffee and what food. As she didn't (and because I'm obtuse like that...) my partner was served both coffees, and all of our food. Although the attitude was funny once, I sure as hell won't be back. I sincerely hope she finds another job, just like I'll find another cafe.

Impersonal, busy, average coffee, crowded, poor quality muffins, over-sweet Bircher. Reminds me of a cafeteria

Ordinary service, very ordinary soy latte i.e. no taste of soy. Better cafes than this around.

Downhome. Best unassuming breakfast in town.
Tremendous steak sandwich, salads, and cherry pie. Been going here for years and always just quietly good.

Terrible. Young guy behind the counter always in a terrible mood, been going there for 5 weeks every morning and finally had enough. Awful service. Coffee takes 4-5 minutes to make, even when quiet, barista moves very slow and looks as though he is wearing pyjamas.
Horrible vibe in this cafe, won't be going back. It is a shame this is the closest one to my house.

Quality place. I went in on a wet and cold Melbourne afternoon and had one of the best chai lattes I've ever had. It was a warm and welcoming cafe that provide some great food too. The selection of cakes, slices and treats were very tempting indeed. For meals they had a super selection of wraps, salads, pastas and other gourmet dishes that can be eat in or take away. I'll return to try some of the meals for sure. Open until 6.30pm everyday is great for an early dinner or late arvo coffee and snack. Highly recommend!

Divine. Everything about this place is superb, right down to the owner making my 4 year old daughter fell like a princess. I highly recommend the crepe's - which I would travel 1000kms to order. The coffee is perfect, the food is delivered beautifully presented and everything tastes wonderful. Do yourself a favour - go spoil yourself.

Grumpy Owner. The Owner or Mgr of this restaurant is extremly grumpy and not friendly at all. I will not visit this shop again.
Albert Park
A local stalwart. Good cafe food in a nice street setting. Not a huge range, but always enjoyable for a casual meal.
