Review Fabric Restaurant And Bar - Albury

O Roldan
Charming restaurant at the Mercure Albury. Is really popular especially on weekend nights. The staff are professional, well trained and know a thing or two about teamwork. Has a view of the hotel pool and is a good setting for a relaxed dining experience. Well curated menu that features fresh local produce. Everything we ordered turned out to be really food with a thoughtful balance of flavours. Service was excellent despite it being quite busy. Highly recommend the steak. Do remember to make a booking.

My husband and I had our NYE dinner here. We stayed in Albury for the night during our long drive from Victoria back to Sydney. The dinner here was a last minute booking and we were glad that the restaurant was able to accommodate us because they were fully booked that night being NYE. We had a great meal and the food were delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered a few dishes but the pumpkin and caramelised onion tart for entree, and the raspberry macaron ice cream sandwich for dessert were the highlights for me.

Had breakfast here while staying overnight at the Mercure. Pleasant setting overlooking the hotel pool. Nearby bar and lounge area. Friendly and quick service. Enjoyed my poached eggs on toast with mushrooms and bacon. We stayed at the Mercure hotel and decided to experience dinner at the restaurant 579 on Olive !

Service: 5 stars Food: 1 star Meals were cold when they arrived. The steak, ordered medium, was served rare and wasn't cooked through properly. It hadn't been allowed to get to temperature. It was also chewy. The vegetables were tasteless and bland. The chicken had gristle and tendons left on and the batter had been crumbed in corn flakes of some sort. Which was an overpowering taste. Apart from that it was bland, tasteless and greasy. The puréed potatoes were gloopy. The coleslaw was good however. Service however was great!! The waiter was alone on a Friday night. But he managed the tables great and was very attentive. He was good conversation and a pleasure to chat with. Although the food was quite terrible, he really turned the night around.

579 on Olive has always been our "go to" restaurant in Albury whenever we wanted a quality meal with great menu choice particularly on special occasions such as wedding anniversaries. Yesterday was our 42nd anniversary and having perused the expansive menu on their website it confirmed our desire to go there so we made a booking. When presented with the menu it was immediately apparent that it was not the same as the one promoted on the website and offered limited choice. Very disappointing! To be fair the meal provided was well cooked and presented but was really little more than what you would get at a good pub for a lot less money. I am sure many in Albury and district will rue the day the Jones family sold out to Mercure!

I tried their southern fried chicken and it was surprisingly very good, it was one of the best fried chicken I ever tried in Australia!

We had dinner here because of its convenience while we were staying in the hotel upstairs. 579 on Olive was a big surprise. The food and service were both really excellent.

Great food. A bit on the higher side of $$$ but good for a formal dinner on special occasions. Service is great food is the die for.

The "Signature Steak" from Restaurant 579 is the best steak in Albury Wodonga. Served as two pieces of steak plated on top of each other, with a minimalist selection of root vegetables and a delicious red wine reduction. Very different to a "pub steak", but absolutely unbeatable. My restaurant of choice locally for special occasions, celebrations, entertaining out of town guests etc. It's not cheap, so not the sort of place i'd go every week, but the service is excellent, the food is excellent, and it's just all around good. Atmosphere is very good without being pretentious. Food in general is a bit of a mix between traditional good quality food with a modern touch - not too out there, but not outdated either. A good balance.Hotel Restaurants can often have a bit of a reputation for something less than desirable, this is something all together different. Perfect place for an anniversary dinner or similar.

During my holiday in Albury I went into countless restaurants, cafes and bars/pubs which valued my patronage. This was the only place which refused me entry because I was not a guest of the attached hotel. At this point, I'm thinking of 2 things:

1) This is an absurd, ridiculous, outdated practice from the 90s or earlier. In 2017, it doesn't happen in Albury or anywhere else that I know of; and
2) You could easily get more customers and revenue by doing what every other restaurant does ... let in people regardless of whether they are hotel guests or not (provided they don't come in naked or otherwise improperly dressed).

What a way to get potential customers to turn against you!

Very disappointed with this dining experience. Had heard some decent reviews so expected more. Average service . Food was lacking. Decor/atmosphere were non existent .

Have the steak. I organized our staff Christmas party here on Saturday night. The staff were really accommodating when I booked a table for 18 only a couple of days in advance. Children were well catered for with a kids menu waiting on the table when we arrived and the child's meal came out before our entrees. Drinks waiters were always on hand.
A friend told me to order the steak and it was fantastic. There was a bit of a wait on our meals but with two or three other Christmas parties to cater for it was quite understandable.

Excellent meal; excellent service. What a great experience at this little restaurant in Albury. We were only in town for a few days and wanted to eat out on a Monday night with half the places closed. Our luck because my pork dish and my partners prawn dish were really different, really tasty; followed by a shared rhubarb pudding dish that was heaven. I'm going to look up their menu because these were definitely dishes that need to be repeated.

Husband and a friend ordered steaks . They were apparently worth the rather longish wait. I had the pork medallions with lemon and pine nuts. Should be a lovely flavour combo. Sadly the pork was dry and tough and my plate was swimming in greasy oil thanks to the overly oily 'squashed chars' and oily crusted pork.

Place and staff are nice and all but definitely NOT vegan friendly was told everything is cooked in butter and/or prepared in egg wash.

Very very happy!. I dined here recently for my wedding anniversary. Food was amazing and the service was impeccable, was the best meal I've eaten locally in a very long time. Gruyere Soufflé was second to none.

Waiting an hour for a sub standard steak is not fun, well, the steak was fine but the flavours didn't work and for $37, dissatisfied!

Ordered sticky shredded beef salad with glass noodles, ordered the main size which I still couldn't finish! It was tasty however i felt it had too much dressing. My boyfriend ordered the fish of the day which was beer battered fish and chips with garlic aioli. It was great but no salad?! Ordered 2 cocktails and they were delicious. Great dinner and great atmosphere.

Overpricesd - go elsewhere. I booked this hotel because it had a supposedly good restaurant. What a disappointment. The steak was tough and the mushroom sauce had the consistency like that thickened with corn flour. I left most of it. The peach "tart tartin" was laughable. The pastry was undercooked (doughy) and the half peach (?) sitting in the middle was just slightly short of rock hard. Plenty of people, however, in the restaurant on a Friday night. Perhaps I've been spoiled by 2 meals in the last week at the Seagrass, Huskisson?

The steak with root vegetables was an absolute delight. I was staying in the hotel for the night and took a massive gamble on this one as I was very tired to travel for dinner. Let me tell you, I've made the right choice! The steak was perfect and just melted in my mouth, cooked rare just the way I like it. Highly recommended!

Needs quality rather than diversity. I have liked this restaurant in the past, nice ambience, lovely staff but at the minute the chef might be trying to overdo it. Steaks were great, but the vegetable au gratin was highly overpriced, and the salad whilst nice was no better than a pub meal (could be cut up and displayed nicer) The desserts also could be simpler, and not as many flavours in the one dish. Really well done" tried and trues" rather than trying something different and not really working. This is truly meant as a critique because we would go back, but we all really felt the meals were way overpriced for what was delivered and it would be nice to have a table cloth rather than a chipped melamine table top. Just gives the impression of cafeteria rather than restaurant. Again, when you are paying that for meals those are the little extras you look for. So I reckon quality rather than trying to be different would go a long way. Great staff though!

Nice food. Very reliable & consistent, steaks are always good.

Wow! What a great restaurant. I've been twice now and it has been excellent both times. The floor team are friendly, genuine and knowledgeable. A great experience.
