We have driven past here so often and said we should stop in. Finally did and were very happy with the food and the service! It was lovely sitting outside and enjoying our meals.
Chic little spot serving a great Japanese fusion breakfast menu. A refreshing change to the smashed avo status quo. Of course, you can still get everyday breakfast favourites. A must visit for locals
Fantastic ambience, excellent service, delicious fresh and unique food, perfect coffee and juices. Go here, you won’t regret it.
We’ve got a fine cafe here. A very welcome addition to this area in a well known location. It’s already my new favourite place.
Kissaten specializes in Japanese inspired breakfasts and lunches and they do these very very well on what we experienced today. I’ve always quite liked this place and thought it was a tad underutilised in the past as Apte cafe. There’s a pleasant minimalist look and feel and warming colours. It just needed something better established here.
I adore places with sparkling water deals. The water here is made on premises. It’s all joy as it’s bottomless for $3 only, soon with a pump. I adore ramen for breakfast and couldn’t look past that here on the menu. It was a key reason I’d sought the place out. Mine was the Shio Tonkotsu Ramen. It was delicious. Super pork belly in the dish. Two beautifully cut and cooked slabs. A really lovely deep rich broth too. Beautiful kale in the dish as well which was both soft and chewy. In addition, the hard egg was a flavour explosion. A lovely consistency gave way to a thrilling saltiness that I’d find hard to explain. It was fabulous. I really enjoyed the noodles too and the sesame seeds as well. Overall, I reckon it’s a cracking dish. My partner went the breakfast ramen which I was eyeing off from across the table. She really enjoyed it and polished the lot off in no time. I’ll have that one next time, thank you.
We really liked the Japanese chili with black sesame and the bonito flakes with white sesame that was provided with the ramen. They were terrific and helped to add extra flavour and texture to both dishes.
This cafe is such a great addition to the area. It’s not a huge menu but there are still about six or more dishes I still want to try here. There’s big things in prospect for the cafe in future too. Hopefully a liquor licence soon and then we’ll see wine, sake, craft beers made available. Perhaps even a Japanese themed Bloody Mary too! A coffee window is also a possibility as well at the back of the cafe. There’s a really handy car park at the back for non locals and the window would make grabbing a coffee extra easy.
Talking of coffee, it’s taken really seriously here at Kissaten as is tea. My brew to finish today was the Peruvian single origin which is a good rich and inky black coffee. It was expertly made here and delightful.
A terrific cafe. I cannot wait to return.
Great little spot on the busy Heidelberg road.
Coffee is delicious, service friendly, and an interesting Japanese inspired menu to give Melbourne brunch the twist that it needs.
Recommend the breakfast ramen, which is warming without being too rich, I’ve yet to get through the whole bowl!
Massive plus - they’re very dog friendly and their courtyard is beautifully designed and works in all weathers!
I really like what I ate at Kissaten. I had eggs on milk toast. First off, it's Japanese. Now the only reason I'm bringing this up, is because there is no Japanese breakfast food in the area, so it was nice to finally have a Japanese breakfast Cafe near Alphington. So a few days after it opened, I wanted to check it out. So I went with 2 adults, and 1 other kid.
Now I have to say this, because this is a bad thing. The food is very EXPENSIVE. Now, I'm not saying the food is not worth it. Nay. I'm saying that it's a bit too much. Well maybe it was because I came when Kissaten was just starting out, but it was too expensive.
All in all the food I ate was great, and would go as far to say, I'll be coming back. The food I ate was nice and the service was great. My only critique is maybe you could drop the price? Overall I give this Cafe a 4!
Asian inspired cafe wth clean simple decor. Our server was friendly with great service. Both the food and coffee were excellent.
Making my breakfast ramen dreams come true.. omurice was a close second, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Looking forward to returning soon.
Good Food, good prices and good service.
The menu is interesting with lots of Japanese options including Ramen and classics such as Chicken Burgers
The Tempura Prawn Burger was delicious and the Miso fries equally tasty. Look forward to going back again 😋🙂
Note: Theres a covered yard area at the back with tables...this would make a nice spot on a sunny day to eat 🧐🙂
The courtyard is perfect on a summers day! They are dog friendly and give them little treats which is super cute. Most importantly the coffee is great and the menu has your Melbourne breakfast favourites with a bit of a Japanese inspired twist and just beautifully presented.
A cafe designed to thrive in Melbourne. Amazing coffee and a Japanese inspired menu means that Kissaten is a local favourite. Friendly service and good food across the board ensures you can't go wrong.
