Now that the passion for the World football championship 2018 has calmed down, we want to THANK the 71 pier on warmth and hospitality!!! Laura and her beautiful team have done something unforgettable and priceless for us, a small group of Croats who just wanted to cheer for our players VATRENE in the championship . They opened the restaurant during the night, actually early in the morning 3am , just for us to accompany the semifinals together, and they unselfishly prepared us breakfast and celebrated our win over England with us!!! This is something really priceless! Thanks for everything, not only for this wonderful night and morning, but for every day and weekend where we have the best coffee, we enjoy the gourmet delicacies and the home atmosphere!!!
Love you guys so much !!!
Went here for the first time last night absolutely loved the food, Staff were incredible.. They even made my boy feel special with a little cake and candel for his birthday.. highly recommend if you're in the Altona area!!
Go here pretty much every day for coffee. Best cafe and restaurant in Altona. Have eaten in numerous times also and the staff and owners are very friendly and efficient.
the food is good but the place needs to be tidy.
Amazing atmosphere with beautiful authentic Italian food! The staff are amazing, super attentive and helpful! Will always come back to this beautiful restaurant!

Great food and fantastic service! Sanya was lovely and patiently understood our dietary requirements and suggested us what to order. They have the coffee in Altona. Must visit
Fantastic experience. Only a short walk from the beach this place ticks all of the boxes. The food, the staff, the location and the ambiance are all exceptional. The standout dish being the calzone in my opinion
Great staff, great food, practically no wait times. Got a seat immediately and drinks came out straight away. Food was right after and exactly what we wanted!

Came here a while ago and found it a fabulous place that seems to also be popular with locals. Nestled amongst other eateries, Pier 71 holds its own with great food and great service.
The staff were always helpful and quick in taking orders. Do try to chicken scalloping - the sauce is to die for.
Whether you’re wanting to eat in a group or flying solo, your needs are catered for.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking out front or in Coles supermarket car park. High chairs available. Takeaway available.
Will return.
This place has the best woodfried pizza. Its the best i have had in west. The base is perfect and the toppings ate generous.
The pasta meal is good but not great.
We have been there often and absolutely love the location and vibe of this restaurant.
First time eating at Pier 71. We ate outside as we had our dog with us. My husband ordered pizza which he added a couple things to and really loved how thin and crisp the base was. I got the gnocchi which was melt in your mouth, for me it lacked a little flavor in the sauce but that’s just personal option. Staff where lovely. We will definitely be back to try some new things on the menu.
I celebrated my 50th in the function room and had a great night. Everything was so well organised and all went very smoothly. All was done as I'd specified. The food was as delicious as usual even though they had to cater for 30 of us. The waitress looking after us was amazing. She was very much on the ball with everything. She made sure everyone had drinks, cleared tables constantly, kept informing me as to where the food was at and asking me when I wanted certain things served. I was very impressed the whole evening.
One of the Best restaurant in Altona! Absolutely delicious genuine Italian food, Such Lovely customer service always friendly with a happy attitude.
The food is amazing every time I have been, kid friendly with a beautiful atmosphere, I am always a huge fan of there pasta s and love there antipasto platter.
Headed there for a casual dinner on a weekday.. nice vibe and great options on the menu.
Ordered the Pier 71 special pizza and it was perfect...
Hidden gem..
Amazing service and love the friendly owners :)
The food here is insanely good! They are always keeping up to date with current trends and the food never disappoints!! Cool chill vibes
This place has never disappointed. The pizzas have a nice crust on the outside and have that real Italian feel and taste. Unlike some places it doesn't have a menu as long as your arm but whatever you order is top quality.
The coffee here is unbelievably good. Perhaps it's because the owners are coffee addicts. I was told that they searched high and low until they got the right blend and you can taste it. Some places have a really strong blend but slighty bitter like Brunetti and others have a wishy washy blend that is simply too weak. Their blend is exactly spot on. Together with the house made Pear & Ricotta cake I had today it was a great combination.
I live in Preston and we are absolutely spoiled rotten for food places in the North so you get to be a bit fussy and this place delivers in spades.
If I only I could put that big La Marzocco machine in my kitchen !!
My favourite pizza place and we eat here quite often. The pizza is authentic thin crust and made with the freshest ingredients. In my opinion you can’t go wrong with this place if you’re in the mood for authentic Italian in a relaxed setting.
my first time at Pier 71 in Altona. The staff are so lovely and attentive. The food was also delicious and the portions generous. We sat in the back so had the sunshine without any wind.
I'm coming here on regular basis and every time is better than last one. Excellent service, friendly staff, amazing food and coffee. Highly recommend.
Great coffee, with beautiful homemade choc sweet to kick start the week, looking forward to my next visit, to enjoy company of great staff and service, will definitely be back,
THE BEST Margarita pizza I have ever tasted. Lots of flavour, fresh homemade ingredients. Tasted ever better with our Barossa Shiraz. Great friendly service. Thank you Laura and team.
Great service from staff and delicious food! Our large group was warmly welcomed and extremely well looked after! A must try. We will definitely be back!
The authentic Italian food was delicious, service was amazing and space was the best, and I am definitely coming back!!!! I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Celebrated my daughter's 18th birthday today and the courtyard at the Rear of the restaurant was the perfect setting. Laura and the team at Pier 71 bent over backwards to make the day a special one for our family. The food was fantastic and our guests couldn't get enough. Value for money was exceptional given the quality of the food and service. We have also dined at Pier 71 many times and have always been very satisfied. Thanks guys. Keep up the great work.
Fantastic!!!! We have been regulars here since for a while now and love the pizza’s, coffee and friendly staff. Recently we had a function in their outside courtyard and it was perfect - so easy to organize and the staff were personable, organized and accommodated all our requests quickly with no fuss at all. Our guests from Italy loved it!! Definitely would recommend Pier 71 for the delicious Italian food, an Aperol, a coffee or a function !
amazing food! I had the gnocchi which melted in my mouth as well as the nutella dessert pizza with strawberries and ice cream. Incredible, great atmosphere we got to watch highway patrol during dinner which provided for a great time! will return!
Staff are lovely and food is wonderful. We always feel welcome with our without our children. Options for vegetarian and children. Long Sunday lunches are a must in the court yard.
Highlight: sliders were awesome.
All the dishes hit their mark well, just needed a bit more seasoning. Service was quick and super friendly. Great for a quick bite or a special occasion.
I've found my new favourite restaurant! I had a large group (20 people) on Saturday night for my birthday dinner and everything was perfect! The courtyard is great for more intimate occasions, the staff were lovely and the food was delicious! The fried polenta with gorgonzola and truffle sauce and the Al Mare pizza were exceptional! Special thanks to Laura who went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. The best service I've experienced in a long, long time. I'll be back soon!
Best pizza base ever and the drinks are awesome. I definitely will come back especially with my good friends. Great services. Ticks all the boxes.
Wonderful service staff fun happy and light.. Comfortable environment... Food was delicious... pizzas better than 400 gradi by far... Any problems you may have regarding your food if you have any staff have no qualms in fixing your problem and also deleting from your bill which is rare now days... Warm outdoors setting did not feel cold at all... .Prices to me were reasonable for food... Although alcohol is very expensive $15 for two beers.. Too much... But l think every restaurant over charge on alcohol ... Thank you for feeding us.... Will return 100% specially for the pizza
Had my sisters birthday lunch here today.
The service, food and atmosphere was incredible! 10/10. The owner was welcoming and especially attentive to everything we needed. Couldn't have picked a better Italian place! Thanks to all staff x
By far the best breakfast & coffee in Altona! I will be back ASAP to try out lunch and dinner as I'm sure the standards will be just as high. Great atmosphere and wonderful, friendly, service. Thoroughly recommend!
excellent food and great service, wide range of pizzas and pastas to suit everyone's needs
quite a large space so never had any trouble getting a table even at late notice, the vegetarian pizzas are excellent and definitely returning soon
We had our daughters first birthday party in the back courtyard area. Leading up to the afternoon Laura and her staff were extremely helpful in assisting with the menu planning and how we could structure the seating/tables play corner etc. The afternoon was perfect Ariele was fantastic, helped me set up the tables, putting out the lolly jars to complement the beautiful antipasto plates, focaccias and pizzas for the savoury dishes. The food was delicious as always and he was even able to make a special pizza without egg and dairy to accommodate for mine and my daughters allergies. Bringing in a cake was no trouble and the cutting and plating was spot on. I couldn't have asked for a better afternoon. Beautiful food, attentive staff that were willing to go out of their way to assist and lets not forget the yummy coffee at Pier 71. Thanks again for helping make the 1st birthday so special!
Coffee is great & food was pretty good.
I had the Pier71 breakfast & my friend the smashed avo breakfast. My friend loved her avo. My breakfast was a generous serve & probably would've been improved only by the offer of a relish or something, but the food was placed in front of us & the waitperson walked off without asking if there was anything else we wanted.
Both breakfasts had cracked pepper already added, which we were fine with, but not everyone would be.
As far as atmosphere goes, it wasn't especially welcoming, in fact the staff ignored us to the point we were wondering if there was table service or we had to order at the counter.
It wasn't overly busy, there was a relaxed feel, but we ended up getting menus & water ourselves after waiting for about 10 minutes. Then we had to catch the eye of the waitress, who was lovely btw, who asked what we'd like to order & was apologetic when we said we wanted to order coffee to start. One coffee order was wrong & had to be redone, but they were really good coffees.
It's not terrible, it's definitely better than Mosaic up the road, but (from reading other reviews) these guys could hurt their reputation only if they're not consistent with their service & food.
Excellent authentic Italian cooking. I feel like I'm in Rome when dining here. Quality ingredients, tasty food and friendly staff. I love all the pastas and pizzas I have tried here.
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our first time here together. We got a focaccia to share which was flavourful and despite being made with minimal ingredients, soft and fluffy. We got a main pasta each and really enjoyed them. The gnocchi was cooked perfectly soft. My boyfriend said he would've licked the plate if I was acceptable in public!! We will be returning :)
I really enjoyed this restaurant. It's got a very modern feel to it and I believe the food is the standout to this restaurant. I ordered a fettuccine bolognese, the portion sizing was great and you can tell that everything was made in-house. I ended up paying $58.80 for two drinks, two mains and a side focaccia. I would recommend this to anyone who wants authentic Italian food at an reasonable price.
Fantastic service and food, I would highly recommend. The staff are very friendly and clearly enjoy their jobs. The food is great, especially the pizza. Best coffee that I have ever had, and I will go often for a latte. Go check it out, you won't regret it!!
I have had soy latte's here and on one occasion ordered a pizza. I really enjoyed the coffee and been back many times for a latte, the pizza didn't have lot of toppings so probably wouldn't get pizza from here again unless they improve.
As a regular customer I had their lamb special and it was delicious
I will be back tomorrow for the pizza special
Great service too
Well done pier 71
Awesome atmosphere and the service is excellent! Always going out of their way to make each meal memorable! And of course the food is delicious!
The best customer service you can possibly get in altona!! Great food! And great place for a nice dinner! Amazing hospitality as the staff were very accommodating to our large group
Food was really nice, the gnocchi was cooked to perfection. Amazing customer service, and food came out hot and fresh dispite us being a 25 people group !!
Had a delicious Prawn and Chili pizza with chips, very NOM!
And you can't go wrong with their coffee.
Oh and just so you know Multi Gender toilets 🌈
As a local resident I visit pier 71 quite regularly and can categorically say that both the staff and food are amazing. The staff work hard to provide a comfortable environment where every diner feels like a guest in someone's home. Further, the pizza is easily the best in the west!
I have been to Pier 71 many times. The food is pretty yummy but also very expensive unfortunately, so eating here isn't a common occurrence. I do however love popping in for my morning coffee. I find the coffee delicious! What I love most though, is the service. All the staff are super friendly, focused and happy, all signs of a good workplace atmosphere.
Yesterday we celebrated my daughters 2nd birthday at Pier 71 and I was extremely impressed. Food was absolutely delicious; guests could not fault there meal. Great service and friendly staff 10/10! Coffee is worth the travel from Werribee on a regular basis.
We would love to recommend Pier 71 we had a birthday party there last night. It was undoubtedly the most enjoyable night. Warm and wonderful friendly staff, food was great simply authentic Italian. Do yourself a favour and go you won't be disappointed. The Alfresco back room gave us a great atmosphere to mix with our guests Ari and his staff were so brilliantly attentive thanks again to Laura for your guidance prior to organising made it so easy. Pier 71 we will definitely be back. Carol & Michael
Thank you Pier 71 for the most incredible dining experience. The food was impeccable and the service was outstanding. I cannot thank you enough for making my 21st dining experience so special and memorable.I look forward to dining at your restaurant again very soon.
My wife and I mainly come into Pier 71 to grab coffee we believe it's the most consistent and best taste in Altona. The speed of service is always great and whilst I haven't sampled a lot of the food, everything I have had has tasted fantastic. My only gripe would be that I'd love them to introduce a reward system such as Hey You/Rewardle to get some benefits from being a loyal customer. :)
Edit: have increased my score - had excellent pizza and service here last night. Highly recommend the polpette pizza and the Pier 71!

With most of the highly rated local places, if I'm not wowed I usually try to give them a few goes before I review. I've been to Pier 71 now 3 times, and I think they have all the ingredients to be a fabulous place, but they just don't execute on it well enough.
First time we came here (it was a while ago), we got served cold arancini balls. Sent them back, they returned warmer but not hot enough still. Took us a while to return after that.
Second time was fairly recently, we got a take away capricciosa. All of the ingredients were great, however the thin base did not hold up well on the very short trip home and fell apart when we went to eat it. Lots of potential, but a bit underwhelming in the end.
Today we went there for lunch with the in laws. Very busy as there was a party down the back. We had gnocchi, fettuccine, a chicken burger and a San Daniele pizza. Service was friendly, but you could tell they were rushed. Food took a while to appear, and when it finally did the pizza came nearly 10 minutes after all the other kitchen meals. The pizza was better fresh in restaurant than our last take away attempt - the base stayed crispy and the ingredients were all good. Pastas were pretty good, but nothing to rave about. My burger again was nice enough but not anything special - the chorizo in the chips was probably the best part of the meal, but there was only four tiny bits of it. If I'm keen for a burger in Altona there are much better options - B2B, Alex's Fish and Chips, or even the homestyle deliciousness served up over the road at Runkle Dell Rouge.
I think if I'm feeling like authentic Italian pizza in future or great pasta, I would prefer to travel a little further and go to Pizza d'Asporto or Motorino. The restaurant was very much like the food - the right ingredients are there, but it just doesn't wow.
I have been to pier 71 a few times and the marinara pizza is definitely a winner. Whilst the prices may look a little expensive on the menu, the quality is worth it, especially for those who want a local woodfire pizza.
Had mozzarella di buffalini, parma and a lemon tart for dessert. The mozzarella was really fresh. The parma was great! Not soggy, great sauce and cheese, and loved ot being served with rocket and balsamic. Was really nice and not heavy. The lemon tart was brought in but was still good.
Great coffee is really good, service is fantastic, price is reasonable and the set up is nice. Breakfast on weekends is nice, head the eggs Benedict but nothing spectacular.
Great local place in Altona. Easy parking, food is always nice and service is quick and friendly. Keep coming back regularly.
Highly recommend
Good coffee, best pizza and friendly service. My go to place for coffee and pizza. Been going here for years and it's only getting better. The pizzas are made properly with the dough left to rest and the toppings are fresh.
Best coffee, food and service in Altona. Croatian girl is super friendly. Authentic pizza and house made gnocchi is delish!! Great beer and wine selection to go with great food!
I absolutely love this place. I've been here with friends, date nights with my husband and on my own for a sneaky wine and pizza. The staff are so helpful and naturally friendly. And the food is outstanding. My favourite was a black squid ink risotto. I would recommend it to families, mums needing a break and just a place to meet.
Wow great food, one of the best authentic Italian food I have tasted In Melbourne. Good price for the quality of food
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I go to Pier 71 regularly and love the service I get there. Being a regular here is like being a VIP, they make sure they look after you well. FOOD IS AMAZING! try the Arancini balls and the sliders :)
Living and working in Altona, I am a regular of Pier 71 for coffee or a bite to eat. I find the staff very welcoming and approachable and the service friendly, attentive and quick. The food here is always fresh and tasty and their new menu is fantastic with lots of delicious plates, not to mention their fantastic coffee. Dining there last night I was impressed, yet again, by the quality of the food and smiles on the faces of not just the staff but all the patrons. I feel lucky to have such a good family restaurant just around the corner. Thanks guys!
Went here for an early dinner with a friend. Service was prompt and friendly.
Had the fettuccine with chicken and creamy mushroom sauce. Was quite nice, nothing spectacular but pleasant. Reasonably priced and nice location. Would go back
My friends and I had an amazing experience at Pier 71. Great service and very friendly staff. The food was delicious and affordable. I will definitely be returning! I especially enjoyed the Margherita pizza. I would recommend Pier 71 for a great dining experience.
Pier 71 Bar e Cucina is one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of going to. I had 3 pizzas to share with my family and friends and the special risotto for myself and found them delightful. The pizzas were perfectly hand crafted and just the right thickness! The menu had many different options, allowing for a completely different meal every time you come. The atmosphere felt vibrant and fun, thus giving a great space for parties and lunches. Definitely will be coming back for more!! Dessert was amazing also!!!
If you are looking for a place where spend a good time, feeling like at home and enjoy some good foods and drinks.. that is it!!
The service is very friendly and work very hard everyday to improve.
Thanks to Laura and Frank, this place is what Altona deserve!!
Fantastic!!!
Pier 71 is something of a revelation for sleepy Altona. No longer must anyone suffer sub-par, greasy pizza... Unless that's what you really want. The pizza here is thin-crust, traditional style with quality toppings including excellent cheese and cured meats. Other food is a little run of the mill and perhaps a bit overpriced but seems to be the going rate for Pier Street. Keep an eye out for weekday specials which can include half price pizza and pasta. There is a small, pleasant courtyard which is nice for sunny days (although often frequented by smokers). Otherwise there is a choice of booth or traditional table dining. There is also an open area at the front with stools for coffee drop-ins or a sneaky Nutella donut.
What a wonderful addition to Pier St, Altona. Pizza's are great and the service is attentive. It can get quite noisey inside, but overall an enjoyable meal!
Baby shower for 18 people was a WOW. We booked Pier 71 based on only one previous visit. Again we were not disappointed. Thank you to everyone involved in the planning. On the day we loved all the food, the bruschetta appetizer, the arancini, the pasta, the salad, the pizzas, the coffee and the service was great from all the staff particularly the girl in charge of the booking.
A New Favourite.. The Calamari here is equal to the best Iv'e ever had, sooo tender and fresh, a light meal we shared, along with the Salumi and cheese board. Naughty iced coffee is worth the trip alone along with the House Made Tiramisu and Lemon tart my Mum and I ordered the week before. Visit number 3 in as many weeks is up on Tuesday for more yum cakes and maybe a couple of wines this time.
Service is bright and cheery, meals arrived promptly and each time we visited, the rear outdoor seating area happily had umbrellas, once for a shower the next for the hot hot sun. Maybe a tad pricey, but hey, food of this quality and freshness is hard to come by.
Hope you stay awhile Pier 71. See you soon.
In response to reviews:. In response to the 2 statements below:
Pier 71 don’t use calamari in the Taglioini.
The oven is imported directly from Italy and is a modernized pizza oven which is wood fired and rotates to ensure a more even cook.
Pizza was hot, fresh and delicious even after arriving home. Takeaway was ordered online, no need to call! Collection time was texted through to us, easy peezy
Amazing staff and atmosphere, the food is always delicious and portions are great. My son and I love getting pizza and hot chocolate, great place to go to meet up with friends.
My family & I had a wake for one of our family members at Pier 71 and we couldn't recommend this place more for a special or other occasion. The service was absolutely professional and the staff were extremely friendly. The food was incredible, especially the pizza which had many positive comments from our Italian guests. The drink selection was great as well. The ambience of the place, we sat outside at the back, was perfect for our occasion.
Have nothing but positive things to say about Pier 71. It's been our local 'go to' for years. The pizza is insanely good with that traditional base that you get in Italy. The pasta and their other main dishes are amazing also.
Great wines too and always a friendly smile from Laura and the team.
My favourite restaurant in Altona. Fantastic food, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Great for a quick take away coffee or a full sit down dinner. And I just love that they bring my pizza to me when I'm sitting over the road at Hopheads for a beer! Can't get better service than that.
Best crust pizza I ever had in Australia. According to my Italian friend, this is the closest that can get to Pizza in Italy. Beware, the taste is strong, and you will find a big difference comparing to Domino’s or other places. Not only taste good, it looks awesome too.
I was one of several Justices of the Peace in the Courtyard tonight. (at Leon's table)
Our waiter Raymond was awesome. The drinks were offered promptly, music turned down a little as requested, food orders were taken when our Guest speaker arrived. Food arrived popping hot and plentiful.
Raymond was professional and efficient without being intrusive.
