Review Tina's Dumpling House - Altona

This was a nice cosy restaurant. I actually enjoyed the food. I thought the fish was cut in an awesome way where my husband and I were able to pick and dip into the sweet and sour sauce. Their Mongolian beef is the best I've had here in Melbourne. Staff are friendly and we got good service

Great dumpling shop near the beach! What we had: - chicken & prawn dumplings (good) - xiao long baos! So yummm... - seafood pipis with egg noodles (pretty good) - salt & pepper tofu ( so so) Follow me on IG @kristinesubagiyo for more food reviews šŸ’–

The seafood noodles presentation is average, tastes average. The chicken prawn dumplings are ok. And i had to wait for 20 minutes to get the food after placing order at 4pm.

Loved the food. Vegetarian options were available. Very friendly service and decent prices! Will be back!

Value for money and foods are good too with big portions. Staff are very friendly Edited 10/05/22 - Just went back today, the menu have change completely. My favourite dishes & some of our friends are no longer available. The price have increased which is understandable, but compare to the size of serving it is still value for money & friendly service. I think the restaurant must have a new owner recently, because front of house staff are all different and I don't see the same lady (owner?) with the kids there any more

Popped in for lunch and so glad we did. Ordered hot and sour soup, crispy beef with chilli oil, a selection of fried dumplings and special fried rice. Our server was just gorgeous, so polite, professional and attentive. The food was to die for, never had crispy beef like it - perfection. The fried rice - just perfect - simple - not overdone - and full of flavour. Itā€™s over an hour from home, itā€™s worth the trip, weā€™ll be back!

Fantastic vegetarian boiled dumplings! Make sure you order the Szechuan sauce to go with it. They go fantastic together and the home made sauce is worth the extra $1. We also really enjoyed the stir-fried eggplant with rice (make sure u specify vegetarian version if u don't want meat it). Very reasonable prices and friendly service.

My go to for steam barramundi dish craving - totally worth the long drive. The Chef & staff are kind and accomodating - I can call beforehand so it's ready to be served as soon as I arrived. It's cool that the Altona Beach is only a few blocks away so I can visit the ocean and walk off the calories once I am full and satisfied.

Have been here twice. Very happy with the dumplings (plenty of choices here) and my favourite salt and pepper calamari. Will visit often.

Always keen to see solid Chinese joints in my area so gave Tina's a go since it is new. They were great, really good quality for the usual cheap price you expect from a Chinese place.

We ordered:
Mapo Tofu
Chinese Broccoli with Garlic sauce
Chicken dumplings
Vege dumplings
Vege fried rice
Special fried rice

All delicious! Going back there again soon.

We mostly only get take-away here, have only eaten in once or twice.Ā But every single time the food is cooked perfectly and the dumplings are amazing!Ā The best dumplings in the area by far.Ā The staff are always super nice and friendly.Ā Ā Sometimes there is a little bit of a wait, but it's worth it.Ā Ā There are a lot of other places to eat in Altona, but we always pick Tina's.

Vegetarian dumplings were house made , fresh , delicious with rice noodles mushrooms vegetables , highly recommend all to try as decent vegetarian dumplings are hard to find.

I've been back here a fair few times now and the food has been great! The service is quick and food quality is good, however there is definitely a language barrier with the waitresses. All in all, a great local dumpling house if you are ever craving Chinese food!

I have had mixed experiences here. The food is generally pretty good but it can be ā€˜hit and missā€™. The service is okay but can be slow and sometimes indifferent. My favourite dumplings are the chicken ones.
There are plenty of other places to eat in Pier Street so the competition is strong. This place is not far from Altona Beach. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram and stroller accessible. Good parking out the front

Food good and the prices are cheap. Loses a start because the service can be pretty average most of the staff lack English and asking for things like Napkins or more water can be met with blank looks. However if you up for good cheap Asians food this place is should be on the list!

Despite the poor reviews I actually like this place. Theyā€™re not the best dumplings Iā€™ve had, but theyā€™re tasty enough for me not to travel to footscray. I prefer the chicken and prawn over the pork and cabbage. They are juicy and full of meat. The xio long bao wrappers can be thick. Iā€™ve been a handful of times and twice had a thicker wrapping. The filling is yum. I love their garlic Chinese broccoli, the braised pork belly is delicious and so is their beef brisket. Admittedly, I havenā€™t tried anything else on the menu because what Iā€™ve had is good enough for me to keep coming back. If you havenā€™t been before, give this place a try!

Oh and the service isnā€™t fantastic, but itā€™s quick and very typical for a dumpling house anyway.

I was so surprised at how delicious the dumplings are. The pan friend pork, chicken and beef are really nice. surprisingly happy with the xiao long bao. There aren't any other good dumpling places in inner west so its handy and the owner is really nice. good service. cheap too

Had read a positive review of this place so was looking forward to trying it. The dumplings were okay - although xiao long bao didnā€™t have any soup in them. Then the mains - Malaysian fried rice. Sizzling Mongolian beef and salt and pepper squid were drowned in grease. All three dishes werenā€™t nice at all they were so greasy. The squid had been dipped in batter and deep fried which isnā€™t how it usually is or should be. And the rice was glistening with grease as was the sizzling beef. One of the wait staff knocked over a glass of wine on our table and we didnā€™t get any compensation for it. Wonā€™t be rushing back.

This place is not bad, but the dumplings are not the best Iā€™ve had. The xiao long bao were a bit big and had thick wrappers and not enough soup inside. However, the pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings were quite nice. The soups are really nice. We were a bit surprised that the Szechuan chilli sauce seemed to contain something quite nutty, so after sampling that we didnā€™t have anymore. The decor is nice and the service is prompt.

I had to said this. They are probably one of the worse newly open restaurant. The staff here doesn't seems to care much about walk-ins. I have to stand at the door before been greeted by someone when there's only 3 tables of people.

I have other choice beside this one.

Won't be returning for sure.

I wish I could do two separate ratings. Because this place is a 4 for the food and a 2 for the service.

I was pretty skeptical going in, given how average the previous few Chinese places were in this spot. And it really did not help that it took over an hour to get our pick up order together when they said 20 mins. When we asked at about the 40 min mark we were told ā€œ5 more minsā€ but nope.

But the food is really good. Iā€™ve had better dumplings, but there was nothing wrong with these. Well, I probably wouldnā€™t go the Xiao long bao again, but I suspect they had been cooked earlier than the rest. Everything else though - we got some pan fried and steamed were really tasty and fresh. And we also got an egg noodle dish with chicken and veg for the little one - surprisingly tasty, not too oily or salty and didnā€™t get that itchy msg nose feeling afterwards.

So we do want to return, as we really enjoyed the meal. And they were polite enough. Just not very well organized at this stage.
