Review Sunset Thai - Altona

Zuzanna Wawruszczak (ZUZYMUSIC)
We've been to Thailand few weeks ago and we missed the Thai food, this one is our local restaurant. It's been great having delicious Thai food, Thai beers and chatting to the lovely staff. We've been dining in and the place is beautiful and clean as well. I'm surprised by the bad reviews - FOOD WAS AMAZING!!!

Good food! Nice service. Needs to bring in more hospitality around. Good Ambience. Overall a good experience

Got take away. We counted 5 pieces of thin sliced chicken in the red curry. In the beef pad curry there was no beef. We found 2 pieces of sliced chicken instead in it. The veg component was clearly frozen caterer's pack. The pork spring rolls were inedible. They were burnt and soggy. A waste of $60.

Won't be going back. Ordered online for 6:45pm pick up. Hadn't even started preparing my meal when i arrived on time to pick up. Very disappointed with the food. Too much sugar in all the dishes. Beef Massaman was very watery and sweet, Phad Thai was not what i was expecting, and the rice was gluggy. Was expecting much more considering the prices they charge for takeaway. Overpriced

Love Thai cuisine because it is rich in flavour. In this please almost everything was bland. We shared food and every dish was missing on flavours. Specially salads. Service was friendly, but this basically all I can say in their favour.

had Pad See Ew;with beef; my wife had Pad Pak & we shared a steamed jasmine rice. the taste was very good, the serves big enough . Any bigger & we couldn't have eaten it all. the service was quick & very friendly. all in all it was an excellent sunday dinner & i would recommend it to anybody who likes Thai food...Cheers Jeff

Excellent service and to my amazement, authentic Thai food, not 'dumbed down' for a local palate. This is what Thai food is like in Bangkok. Would love to see sticky rice added to the menu for the Issan dishes. A little pricier than many other Asian restaurants in the area but the decor and quality of the dishes goes a long way towards explaining that. Generous pours on the house wine too. Highly recommended!

We ordered home delivery tonight, and it arrived on time. The food was not as good as previous orders. The curries were watery and oily on top and the quantity of meat and vegetables was poor. The roti tasted of bad oil, very poor flavour. Very disappointing as in the past the food has been better.

Overpriced and average thai food.<br/><br/>The food is quite pricey for what you get. The food itself isn't anything spectacular either. The green curry was really nice but the beef and black bean lacked flavour and the roti bread wasjust ok

We have been to Sunset Thai twice in the last 6 weeks when visiting family. The food has been fresh and tasty and served quickly. Needed more spice for me but on the 2nd visit I just asked for the food to have more spice. Staff are friendly and it's BYO with an IGA next door.

Quite pricey for the quality of food that is served. Ordered a pad Thai, super excited to dig in, unfortunately smelt and tasted burnt. I voiced my concern to the waitress, she apologised and went back to get us a freshly cooked pad Thai. Completely understandable at that point, until she came out with another dish of pad Thai, to only explain that the dish I had previously complained about is how they would 'normally' cook it and how it should taste. Not sure how they consider pad Thai that tastes and smells burnt is 'normal'. So if you are after their version of 'normal' pad Thai, then by all means go for it....!

It's a bit pricey for the quality of the food, as others have said it's more of a casual dining option. Food is nice though and service is always excellent. Even has a ladyboy working behind the counter to give you the authentic Thai experience. Worth trying to form your own opinion.

hmmm... too expensive for a casual dining restaurant... they do lunch specials, much more affordable than dinner. Something remarkable was their service!!!

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff, we ordered a green curry and a red duck curry both were reasonable. Its the most expensive thai place I've been and food was ok not amazing. I did like the byo wine, made the price a little more bearable.

Visited there on a recent Saturday evening for dinner, arriving around 5pm.  There was only two other parties inside at that time so plenty of seating.  Even got to choose our own seats, which was down the back near the fish tank.<br/>The customer service was good, with the staff interacting just the right amount of time.  <br/>Food wise, ordered the Masaman chicken curry all round and it was reasonable.  Those that went to the old Jakajans in Werribee, lets say slightly under there standard.  But certainly would give Fresh Chilli Thai in Laverton a run.<br/>Speed: Again reasonable, approx 20 min wait for main meals.  Entree of Roti and Chicken Skewers arrived in ten or so.<br/><br/>Overall, a pleasant dining experience, for two adults having the same main, and entree and Roti and soda and juice, it came in around $60.

11 HUNGRY PEOPLE. My wife and I always support local businesses. Dined here twice -average and acceptable food and service. <br/>One evening, a special occasion warranted a special meal. We opted for the large banquet. <br/>I instructed the waiter that we were all hungry and did not mind paying $10/head extra...JUST FEED US!<br/>The food arrived promptly, however each meal was not sufficient to share amongst 11 adults. <br/>I mentioned to the waiter that the servings were insufficient and I was told to wait until all the different meals had arrived. <br/>When the last meal arrived we were all devastated and still hungry. <br/>I requested to speak to the owner and was politely informed the owner " was in the city "<br/>Then I requested to speak to the manager. After 5mns no one approached our table so I requested the bill. <br/>To my shock the manager had given us a $22 discount - $2.00 per head! I promptly rejected it<br/>If they only had utilised this discount to provide extra food.<br/>I requested that the bill be readjusted to its full value and promptly paid the $570. <br/>Humiliated, ignored and hungry my group left the restaurant - thank God for pizza. <br/>Sorry guys it's not about filling your till.<br/> It's about listening to your customers.

Love this place!. The food here is simple, not too spicy and yummy! Beautiful decor and friendly staff. We loved the Green Curry and Soft Shell Crab dish - definitely coming back here again.

Two out of three were great.. My wife and I went here and loved it. Soups, Fish Cakes and Grilled Pork were all great, as was the dessert of sticky rice, coconut etc in pandan leaf... delicious!! <br/><br/>Went back two weeks later with our two young children. Had some of the same dishes as last time, swapped the Grilled Pork for the Grilled Chicken which was equally tasty and the kids loved it.<br/><br/>Also went for a Thai Beef Salad. This was absolutely the WORST Thai Beef Salad we have ever tried to eat... a couple of forks each and we said "Nope, not eating that!" The beef was about as dry and bland and tough as you could imagine, dropped on top of an underdressed and underwhelming version of a Thai Salad.<br/><br/>We left it & told the waitress... she agreed, saying it looked very dry and tough and suggesting that it might be because of "the new cook in the kitchen".<br/><br/>So we pay the bill and there was no mention of it... no offer to even take maybe 50% off the price of that dish. We obviously didn't like it, we didn't eat it, and she had agreed it was 'dry and tough".<br/><br/>To charge us full whack for a failed attempt at a pretty standard Thai dish that they ADMIT they got wrong is simply not fair.<br/><br/>At kids request we went back again a few weeks later and had another very good meal (no salads) so my fault for not speaking up on the night I guess!

Delicious. My favorite Thai restaurant in the west. Always fresh and tasty. The service and the prices are good too.

Prawntastic. Went there tonight (Monday) for a celebration dinner. It was sensational, I had the Prad Khing Prawn and my husband had the Chicken Panang Curry. I am normally very fussy especially with chilli, thankfully, they had a good mix of meals with and without. The food was sensational, everything tasted fresh and delicious. The staff were lovely and friendly. Best prawns I have had for quite some time.<br/>Also really nice and warm inside, thank you, we'll be back :)
