Good spot for quick and simple lunch with some nice sweet options in the cabinet. Strong coffee made without fuss. Efficient staff.

Accomodating staff and delicious Hot Chocolates. The bacon & egg baquette was fantastic!

I do not write many reviews and mostly they are super positive but this was the worst cup of coffee I have had in a while.

Very rude staff/owner. Not wearing masks. Trying to push me to seat outside in the rainy morning while no tables were occupied inside. Coffee of average quality

I was looking for somewhere on Johnson st for a Sandwich and saw this French Cafe so I thought I would give it a try. I walked in and saw a Sandwich maker, which Is what I wanted. I ordered a toasted cheese, ham and tomato sandwich on turkish bread. I asked how long it would be and he said 'two minutes', which I thought was strange. As a toasted sandwich usually takes longer to toast the bread and melt the cheese, the sandwich was $9 which is more than I wanted to pay, but as long as it was good I didn't care. Whilst waiting I noticed that the man behind the counter who served me and another lady were not wearing masks. I pointed to mine and said 'do you have a mask'? The guy who I assumed was the owner was very rude and said 'we're closing'. When my 'sandwich' arrived I noticed it wasn't Turkish Bread, nor was it toasted. They had simply put a frozen unfresh baguette in the oven and then slapped the ingredients inside. I asked why they didn't use the sandwich maker and the man, whose picture I will share started screaming at me. I said the baguette sandwich wasn't toasted, and he replied by screaming 'it is toasted'. Pointing to a burnt section on the bread. My definition of 'toasted' was done in a Sandwich maker and the cheese melted. I never expected the worker/owner to be so aggressive. To be screamed at for simply asking a question is unacceptable and when I asked for my money back he got really aggressive. I took a step back and thought he was going to hit me. I said I would call the police and then on fear of being attacked I left the shop. Aggressive man aside, I don't expect to tell a French Cafe how to make a toasted sandwich. The sandwich looked disgusting, who the hell puts a baguette in an oven so it's like a brick and then puts the bad quality plastic ham and one piece of cheese inside. Avoid like the plague.

The coffee is generally good and always strong . Setting is nice and pleasant and the food is tasty.

Popped in for a quick breakfast as this place was close to where I was doing my shopping.

I wish I'd never gone there, the food and the service were horrible.

I ordered corn fitters with grilled halloumi. It came out in a bowl, drenched in what I can only describe as watery tomato sauce. I expressed my concern about how much sauce the fritters were swimming in and the lady told me it's good sauce. I advised it may be but these are corn fitters, not pasta with sauce. I advised not to worry. I'll scrap it off, which I did. It was hard to remove the sauce as it was in a bowl so the fritters were soaking in sauce and were quite soft and fell apart.

The grilled halloumi however was like it had been deep fried, it was totally melted and feel off the fork when you raised it to your mouth to eat, so I left most of the halloumi, exept one corner that was grilled and still had it's shape.

When the owner came out to take my plate I mentioned (as a piece of feedback) that the grilled halloumi was too melted and demonstrated this by holding a piece of it on my fork and showing him how it hung like melted cheese.

The owner told me his customers loved their halloumi. I told him that's not how grilled halloumi should be. To my shock he continued on and told me that he didn't like how I ate (he said it was disgusting to watch).

I guess scrapping off the sauce and showing him how the halloumi dripped off my fork was disgusting to him but it's unacceptable to talk that way to a customer when they are simply telling you the problems with the meal,

I will never go back to this place again.

Don't be confused by the name, this place is by no means a French bistro. At best it's a no frills cafe, with standard breakfast and lunch options and some cakes.
However that said, the bacon and egg breakfast was pretty well done. It sounds simple but I've been to plenty of places that get it wrong.
Eggs were perfectly soft as requested, bacon was nice and crispy but still full bodied and moist. Sides were good as well, baby spinach, mushrooms and tomato.
I'm not sure why they served my toast on the side though, and cut in half, they're not the only ones that do this. But who eats like that? Don't you need the toast on your plate so you can pile the eggs and everything else on top? Or is that just me?
Service was friendly and atmosphere quiet and relaxed.

Horrible food, tasteless and expensive. The staff was appallingly rude, the service well below par. Have never had a worse cafe experience. Avoid at all costs!

$5 milkshake was not frothed or fluffy at all. Was it chocolate milk from a carton put in a glass? Perhaps so.

Horrible service, and the food was definitely past it's date. I ordered a pre-made sandwich, which came out soggy, and the meat was slimy with a foul smell. I returned it and the guy (owner) gave me a scowl. Will never go back!

I go here to grab my morning coffee and pastry. Coffee is really good (Toby's Estate) and as a soy milk drinker, I love that they use Bonsai soy milk which is by far the best soy milk.
They're always happy to let my baby sit in a high chair and make a mess!

Terrible coffee!

TERRIBLE service. We asked for a simple substitution for one of their breakfast dishes and just received a curt "no" - no explanation, apology. Breakfast was completely ordinary.

Lovely people who run it and very local and kids friendly feel. Great coffee, try the Maroccan Chicken Sandwich.

We had the eggs for breakfast and croque Monsieur. The eggs mushrooms & haloumi were perfectly cooked Though the bacon was greasy & lacked the crisp smokeyness one expects. A thinner cut of higher quality bacon grilled should do the trick. The orange juice was freshly squeezed as promised. The croque was passable but lacked the bite one needs from the gruyere having used Swiss instead.

Microwaved sandwiches?. Really great coffee here in a nice cosy atmosphere BUT... they microwave their sandwiches!!! Yes, really. The roast beef baguette that looked lovely in the fridge arrived at my table with the beef all shriveled up and hard, the tomato fizzing, the salad microwave-limp and the bread like soggy undercooked pizza hut. The kind of gastronomy you expect to be reserved for motorway service stations. When I voiced my distaste, saying I would have preferred a proper toasted sandwich the staff were frankly rude and short with me and seemed somewhat affronted that I had criticised their cooking methods.
My advice? Fine to pop in for a cuppa but do NOT eat here!

Try the bacon and egg baguette WITH hollandaise.
