Wandered down the main street early in the morning hoping that someone would be open so I could have a coffee. The only two shops open were the newsagents and the bakery. I had the best cup of coffee and bacon egg roll so far on this trip around Australia. Great friendly staff. Thanks guy's.
Friendly Staff and quality food. Scallop pies and Lamb pies are the best! Highly recommend this bakery!
The best date and wholemeal scones I've ever eaten. So yumm . After returning to Sydney, I searched for scones similar to yours, but no luck . You should open a branch!
We heard Sally on the radio as we set out on our journey so decided we had to visit! ......Only a little detour heading to Milang SA from Bellbrae Vic.!
Well worth it...chunky steak pie and chicken leek and bacon pie.......YUMMY!
Just cycled into town with the #RideforLily crew and had the Scallop and Curried Leak pie. Possibly the best seafood pie I have ever eaten. Thank you....!
Always love heading over the hill into Apollo Bay, the anticipation of eating a scallop pie from the bakery is worth the trip alone! Kids have now discovered the Chicken Caesar Baugette so will be back soon
Best bakery in town. We went there after our Great Ocean walk and had some coffees and the best ever Spinach / Ricotta roll.
Flew from Perth to try the Scallop Pie, already booked my return flight back here. Absolutely beautiful
The pies are the bomb ! .....seriously delicious
Can’t wait for my next visit
The bestest ever fruit & Nut loaf. Makes you want breakfast all day
The pies they bake are just so filling and crisp and soft and yum and what not at the same time!! I bought their vegetable pie and it was good enough a meal for me! Loved the pies at this place and would definitely recommend grabbing a quick bite here on the way to the GOR.
Everything is good here. Food made with love. Sausage rolls are a great option for a quick snack. Even the coffee is good. They use bon soy.
Was so amazed by lamb pie, went in with high expectations given the reviews and was not disappointed. Cute little stop off point, perfect after some walks we did earlier in the day. Fast service and lots of seats.
I stayed in Apollo Bay for a week and worked my way through the following.
Almond Croissant 7/10
Slightly overcooked, but it didnt matter. Very very tasty, great combo of flaky and chewy with a good amount of filling.
Apple Cake 9/10
Very soft crumbly biscuit with perfect amount of icing. Apple & cinnamon filling with lots of apple pieces.
Vanilla slice 5/10
Pastry was a bit stale and there's a strange addition of a jam which doesn't add much. Overall it was good and the custard was quite nice but wouldn't recommend, there are better options here.
Muesli Slice 7.5/10 (pictured)
Loaded with dried fruits, macadamias, seeds and yogurt on top. Very tasty not overly sweet.
Apple Crumble (pictured)
9/10
Great ratio of crumble to apple filling. I had mine heated up and it was fantastic. Best thing I tried from here.
Amazing bakery food - we had both some cold savoury rolls as well as some sausage rolls before moving onto the sweets. Beautiful fresh and tasty fare!
However with hordes of locals and tourists (literally the place was standing room only trying to order) trying to order their delicious bakery food it feels like total chaos and not at all relaxing like a regional bakery should be.
One suggestion to improve the service and reduce the manic atmosphere, could be to implement a roped lane system.
Most people, especially tourists, will come here for the scallop pies. They're not cheap but you're probably on vacation so it's worth a try. The pies are pretty well filled with scallops as you can see from the photos, although a good part of that is gonads (hope you knew that's what the large orange/cream coloured bits were, otherwise well, now you know - you're welcome). Pies come in 2 flavours - Mornay and curry. Both were tasty and better than some of the other bakeries we tried later on.
Cosy place and worth a stopover if you're driving down the Great Ocean Road.
We ordered their curry pie and their famous scallop pies and they did not disappoint. The scallop pie had 5 pieces of scallops each and it tasted fresh, I’m not sure if they use frozen scallops or not. The scallop pie was incredibly creamy and it was a pure delight to devour. The curry pie was flavoursome and mild.
A lot of tourists visit this bakery as a stopover for lunch whilst on the way to the 12 Apostles, so expect long lines if you happen to arrive during the peak lunch hours. Service is friendly and prompt. There are tables scattered around the bakery that said, it can be difficult to find a seat during lunch time.

Like a normal bakery. Its quite good and the taste worth with the price. Should try if you come here with a cake lover. Dont forget to order a coffee as well!
Stopped by for breakfast after a night of rest at Apollo Bay, before the drive towards Twelve Apostles. Ordered the famous Scallop Mornay Pie, Chunky Beef Pie and Beef and Mushroom Pie. Everything were delicious. Scallops were fresh and the cream sauce complements it very well. Both beef pies were very good too. Nice and fluffy pie crusts. Definitely had me craving for more. Had a mocha which was good too. Grabbed a bag of ‘pull apart’ Herbs and Cheese bread, and Coffee Scroll (bread). Both were so good. Do try it!
Had both versions of the scallop pie as well as the steak n mushroom. Did a takeaway due to time factor but still good n delicious 4 hours later. Prefer the white wine version compared to the curried one. The steak pie was fabulous too.
got a vegan pastie - was like a curry vegetable one with cauliflower, potato and chickpea (WAS PRETTY GOOD)!!!
so good to see vegan options at the main bakery!!!
would love to see more vegan options, a vegan pie would be very nice!!!
We stopped in for breakfast in our way out of Apollo Bay; the Scallop and Curried Leek pie is simply the best pie I’ve ever eaten, period. Highly, highly recommend.
The most amazing pies ever!! The Scallop pie is a must try and simply delicious with a generous amount of scallops inside. We also thoroughly enjoyed the lamb pie - so much flavour! A Must try !!
The pies I had at this bakery turned out to be the best food I had during my whole Great Ocean Rd trip! I had the scallop mornay pie and although I'm not usually a fan of seafood in pies, these were simply amazing! So fresh and tasty with a great pastry base. I even went back the next day to try their steak pie and these were excellent too. My friend had the vegetable pastie and loved it. Best pies I've had in Victoria, and probably second best I've had in Australia (my fav used to be the ones in Jabiru, NT but they've sadly closed). Highly recommend for any meal of the day!
First time I tried scallop pie and it was delicious! It had large chunks of scallops in it and loved its creamy sauce. The one with curry was also good if you like curries.
Visited the Apollo Bay bakery after reading about the hype online. I got the curried leek scallop pie which did live up to all my expectations! Partner got the scallop mornay pie, which too was delicious, as well as the steak and onion. Decent service despite it being very busy!
Searched for a lunch place in Apollo Bay and came across the high reviews for this bakery. Not a fan of pies, but it seemed the Mornay scallop pie was a must try. Went in to get a takeaway. Service was fairly fast and pretty friendly. Pie was yum!
We’ve tried many pies along our great ocean road trip, but these pies do top them all. At first we thought $10 for a scallop pie was a little steep. But it was completely worth it. The curried leek and scallop pies are beautifully cooked and tasty. We even went back the next day to grab another one before we left!
The Thai chicken curry pie was also a winner. Tasty and very moist chicken. The Beef stroganoff pie wasn’t as tasty and a little dry, but still quite good.
The service is fast and friendly. Regardless of being busy, people don’t tend to stay long and we easily found a table.
I definitely recommend checking them out if you’re staying the night or even passing by. You won’t regret it!
Amazing early morning take away puffs for vegetarians and vegans for $6. They are quite tasty, value for money and the bakery is always bustling with people. This bakery is very close to the information centre and is famous among locals.
The scallop pies are to die for!!! Whole scallops in a creamy dill sauce. Beware though- it can be runny, so don't let it run down your front. Eat these sitting at a table 😁
I was pleasantly surprised by my WinterWild Vindaloo Pie. My partner had the Scallop Mornay Pie and apart from it being slightly watery inside it was tasty.
I'd like to come back and try the Kangaroo &a Dark Ale Pie and the Curried Scallop Pie.
GLUTEN FREE PIE!
what a surprise to find a homemade gluten free meat pie at this bakery. BEST GF MEAT PIE I'VE EVER EATEN! $8 but worth every cent. other gluten free sweets and treats were also available. will DEFINITELY come back next time we are in Apollo Bay.
It was my first time to try scallops pie ! it was a great experience to me when passed through Apollo bay! Coz it's a small town in Great Ocean Road, few restaurants are available in there. You can find out the reason why most ppl spend their morning after you have spent a morning in this bakery:) Fresh scallops and amazing combination with the pastry. Salty and thirsty feeling are always happened in normal pie, yet never happened in scallop pie, juicy filling can be seen once you cut it. Lemon tart was also good, not too sweet and sour with buttery tart shell. Flat white was good too but not too special. In conclusion, i highly recommended the scallops pie!!!! 💜 love it so much.
This bakery was excellent! Ordered Citrus Tart & scallop mornay pie. The Scallop mornay pie was very juicy with fresh taste. The scallop was cooked well! The citrus tart was yummy as well! Not too sweet but enough for breakfast!
Definitely need to go there if you are passing Apollo Bay!!!!
Second time back here in a year! The pies here are really one of the better ones I've tasted. We enjoyed the scallop & curried leek pie, but I preferred the Curried one better!
Stopped by for a quick lunch. After reading the reviews and looking at the pie selection I just had to try the Scallop Pie. It was a hearty meal in itself so well worth the $10. Different but very satisfying, chock full of scallops! We also had the salmon pie, cheeseburger pie, and a steak and curry pie. All were yum. With a wide selection of desserts, we finished off with an iced donut each. You won't be disappointed coming here for lunch.
In my short stay at the Apolly Bay I had the chocolate hot cross bun, cinnamon donut, bacon and egg bun, scallop pie, burger pie, chicken and chive sandwich, ham and cheese pickle sandwich and custard tart. Highly recommend the cinnamon donut, pies and custard tart. I would have given it a 5 if not for rude service at the counter by the girl who heard me wrongly. Eye rolling is really unacceptable. That aside, definitely worth a stop by!
Had the scallop mornay, pepper steak pies and the apple crumble pie.
They were all fantastic! The scallop pie was fresh and had at least 3 huge scallops in it! Steak pie was great and had a huge amount of meat in it as well. Price was good for the portion.
Overall it was a great experience to apollo bay bakery! Definitely would recommend anyone to go!
I remember about 10 years ago I used to avoid the Apollo Bay Bakery because of the poor quality pies and baked goods. A few years later they must have changed owners and things improved dramatically. They now have an interesting variety of pies including curried scallop pie and a scallop mornay pie. I've had a curried scallop pie in the past and I enjoyed it but I didn't feel like a scallop pie today so I got the chicken Parma pie. I walked back to the holiday house as quick as possible so I could eat it. There were nice big chunks of chicken and it was just like a chicken Parma you get at the pub but in a pie. I also ordered a sweet, the cheesecake brownie looked interesting but I was craving a custard tart so I got that. The custard tart tasted similar to those ones you get in other bakeries that look like they're made in a factory but this one looks like it was baked in the bakery and it tasted slightly better.
I had lovely service twice over the weekend. The girl who served me with long brown hair was very accommodating when I asked if she would be able to check if the bread was made with any allergens. Great made to order salad roll! All the other food items purchased by dining companions were enjoyed too which ranged from meat pies, veggie pasties and sausage rolls.
I was sceptical about this touristy place at first, but the scallop pies are as amazing as everyone makes them out to be!
- Each pie comes with 4-5 big scallops and roe
- There are two flavours, mornay and curry leek. I prefer the mornay (creamy) one
- pies cost $10 each
- best eaten in the store, while its hot, and you have access to cutlery and on a table as it does get messy
Another hidden gem here are the children sandwiches. At $2.50 each, they're a bargain. Two of them will make a decent lunch on the way to the Twelve Apostles.

Walked past this place notice it was busy so thought we would have a pie.notice they had scallop mornay pies and thought oh yeah we will try that, it was the bomb !!! Now after reading reviews we stumble across a popular bakery which puts heaps of love in its food and it shows .. Love finding these place randomly .. 😄
As per reviews headed in for a scallop pie. Great pie, full of scallops, thin pastry yummy. Also bought freshly baked beetroot rye bread, yummy. Would return for scallop pie alone.
I always pop in when down in Apollo Bay. A lovely Bakery with Its Own Home Made Pastries and Cakes/Slices. Somewhat rare with Bakeries these days.
For me personally, you cant go past their Custard tarts. I just love them. Always have. Beautiful pastry with egg custard. I am yet to taste one as nice as Apollo Bay Bakery. Yummo
If you're going to explore the Great Ocean Road.
Then you should have a pit stop at Apollo Bay Bakery where their infamous scallop pies is a must and are the bomb!
(Saturday 20/12/205 & 21/12/2015)
Went for GOR trip with family And stopped by the place where it was recommended by friends and reviews.
Ordered the scallop mornay pie and the curried leek and scallop pie.
Both were really delicious, as promised.
The atmosphere there was pretty chill.
A good place for rest and walk around the area.
Coffee was a mix for me. Had good ones and bad ones. The cappuccino made by the old lady did a better job. For the pastry, I would say is average.
Needless to say, we went to the place again because my mom couldn't get enough of the scallop pies and thought that she would wanna have a last try before going back home !
We love the place!!! Went here twice to take away some goodies. There was so many choices to decide which yummy treats to take to the accommodation and also home!
Eat here every morning when me and my partner come up for a trip to apollo bay
Friendly staff and bread is very freah, decent coffee which is always a bonus since we drink coffee first thing in morning
Bacon and egg roll is fresh and hot 👌
Nice Bakery offering good selection of pies, pasties and toasties. Had the scallop mornay pie which had at least 4 whole scallops inside and tasted delicious with a flaky light pastry; the spinach and ricotta roll was also good
The best scallop pie! Yes I agree, it really has 4-5 whole scollops in it, the sauce inside is quite nice to go with. A very little busy shop on that street. If you are at Apollo bay, give a try.
Having read the raving reviews about this bakery, my partner and I decided to stop by and try their Scallop Pies. This bakery was bustling with people both inside and outside of the venue, but it didn't take long for us to be served.
We both ordered the Scallop Pies and brought it outside to eat. Priced at $10, they are relatively steep for a pie but it was definitely worth a try. There were about 4 or so large scallops inside and it was quite juicy (which made it a bit hard to eat as the sauce was flowing everywhere).
However, one thing that annoyed me was the fact that the lady who served me said they didn't accept American Express credit cards. However I found out later that they were part of the American Express Small Shops promotion that was happening during the weekend that I was there. Whilst $10 is not particularly a lot of money, it was more of the fact that they've decided to be a part of this campaign yet have chosen to ignore it.
Friendly service with delicious sweet & savory goodies. Babycinos are free! Not to mention that the bakery is my pick for the best coffee in town.
The pies here are pricey, and as far as pies go, above average. While the curry scallop pie is the famous one, I preferred the scallop mornay for its cheesy goodness and was the winner on the day. The lamb, honey, mustard and Rosemary pie had sweet succulent well cooked lamb.
I tried the curried scallop pie and it was to die for! They're quite generous with the size and amount of scallops too. The next day we came back and they were out of scallop pies so we tried the salmon pie... Also delicious. Will return next time we're at Apollo Bay :)
After having dinner at La Bimba the previous evening and being introduced to the Bakery's smooth brioche, I was excited to return the next day for a scallop pie. There's two types available - mornay and curry. Sticking to Hobart's tradition I tried the curry version for a high sticking price of $10. Although on the small side, the pie is excellent. Crisp pastry (would prefer a little thicker) with nice curry and 3 or 4 small but thick scallops with excellent strong flavour. It's expensive and not the most convenient to get to, but I dare say I liked it more than Hobart's offerings.
This Scallop Pie is as good as it gets. Very tasty with leeks and pitty I live in New Zealand so may be a while before having orgasm in my mouth again. 10$ is not to much money for the quality. Thanks will stop again when passing, will also make sure I pass this way. Counted at least 5 Scallops in the Pie.
Saw the sign for scallop pie and couldn't help u-turning and grabbing one to go. The one I got (aka sent someone else to get) was flaky, about 4 or 5 scallops in a mild curry sauce and delicious. Reminds me of tassie. No idea about service but great takeaway.
This is 3rd time we have been here and love it. I walked in and saw a roasted lamb with gravy and mint jelly roll. It was so yummy!!!!!!!!!!! The pies never disappoint and our friend got cinnamon donuts which I dipped in my hot chocolate. Also tried the chicken parm pie for the first time which was a nice change. #steakbaconcheesepietogofortonight
So glad that I found a bakery at this kind of place! Stayed there for 2 days so I got to taste plenty of their pie varieties.
Their pastry crusts are inferior compared to what I had eaten before.
Scallop pie was ridiculously expensive but ridiculously delicious as well! Ten bucks for that, i expected a giant scallops in my pie filling however there were only groups of little scallops in it. It still tasted amazing though! Steak and Guinness was okay.
Great selection of delicious pies, sausage rolls, bread and old fashioned cakes and slices. This bakery is busy and located on the main Street. A good and quick feed for hungry tummy's.
Fantastic breakfast sandwiches and coffee. The bread was very fresh and the servers were very polite and happy. We definitely try to stop by every time we drive through.
Hell good. Fantastic service, tasty toasties and treats.
Sure they get the crowds, but they handle it well with fast and efficient service and care
What great staff you have!!. We visited your bakery on Monday morning and i must say you have such friendly, polite staff who are a credit to your business.
The food was lovely, great coffee and your won our little 18 month old over with his special free babychino.
Keep up the great work we will be sure to visit again.
Been here a few times now as I travel through Apollo bay. Owners have nailed the pies and kids love the donuts. Also love the new roast beef roll. Thx guys
Just travelling through and found amazing bakery that just hit the spot at the right time of day. Had the scallop pie which was to die for. My partner had the lamb pie - best ever. Def recommend
Pie, oh pie!. Pie pastry was normal, but my, the Thai chicken curry pie was perfect for the cold weather!
Best chicken salad roll in town.
Good fresh food with fast service.
We enjoyed the food, but just as a warning my gf found what looked like half a kebab skewer inside her croissant. Chew with care!
Seriously good sourdough! Love it.
Had the fish pie here and it was delicious! Lovely filling of Salmon, potato and leak in a creamy, but not too rich sauce.
Fabulous! We stopped on the way to and back from the 12 Apostles. Excellent pies, the scollop pie is something else! Perfect stop for food on the run and equally great to relax with a well made coffee and sweet treat (vanilla slice my personal recommendation).
Delicious home-made fish pie & sausage rolls! Fresh bread baked daily.
Visited Apollo bay for the music festival and tried the curried leek and scallop pie - it was fantastic and worth every cent. I even went back and tried the Chicken Parma pie - it was great too! The service is quick and the staff are friendly and helpful - even got a few sightseeing tips. I'll be back.
Pies were nice, nothing special, better than Pie Face, was going to try their famous Scallop Pie until I saw the price of $12.95 for one normal size pie, so went for chunky beef and a pepper steak, both for $11.95 total a lot more normally priced. The shop is well set up for speedy service, and the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Great location being right in the middle of the main street.
Their sandwiches made for great lunches on our GOW hikes. The ham/ chicken was tasty, and the rolls are generously filled with vegetables.
The scallop pie is delicious; a must-try. It looks kinda small, but it is packed with multiple pieces of scallops inside.
Wow. They even offer gluten-free scallop pies. Well worth it. Let me tell you. I also had a great latte.
If you’ve never tried scallop pies then you much visit this Bakery!
We’ve never tried scallop pies before so we decided to buy both the curry & mornay pies as well as the garlic prawn pie and they were all deeelicious!! The pastry was flakey, scallops/ prawns juicy and sauces full of flavour. You have to be careful though as it’s quite saucy and drippy.
Oh and their sweets are delicious too - we couldn’t walk away without buying a choc brownie and choc caramel cheesecake slice.
This bakery and its pies came highly recommended by friends and it did not disappoint! The staff were super friendly and helpful.. Will definitely go back.
The scallop pies were pretty good with a generous portion of scallops. Still a little pricey at that size. The hedgehock slice was good too
Not only are the pies and pastries some of the best you'll come across in Australia...if not the world...it's the friendly staff and great energy that makes this such a great stop along the Great Ocean Rd. Obviously the scallop and seafood pies are sensational but their selection of ready made sandwiches are delicious. The bakery is right in the middle of town and there is plenty of parking nearby...oh and the beach is 150 metres right in front of the bakery so I love grabbing a pie or sandwich and eating it on one of the most stunning beaches in Australia. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!
