Review Sandy Feet Cafe - Apollo Bay

Oops. Lasagne was so delicious, I forgot to photograph it before I had nearly finished. Very yummy. Muesli was very good too, and nicely presently. Clean, friendly, healthy food.

I have never liked salads at restaurants, I’ve always taken one bite and pushed them to the side. This place is the first place I’ve ever liked the salad. The food was fantastic, I don’t know why the place isn’t packed since this should be your first choice.

I had some overseas colleagues with me; we were in town for one night and looking for a good meal. Did we find one? Did we ever. The damper was out of this world. The kangaroo fillet was beautiful and green seafood curry bouillabaisse fresh and excellent. Mark, who owns this place, is a delight!

Walked in last night, attracted by their menu with native ingredients. Got in a little late, and they could not have been more welcoming, more hospitable or more lovely. Mark is the consummate host! Ordered the macadamia stuffed lamb, Flint cab sav, and had some of their house damper, and finished with the cheese plate. The cheese plate was nice. The damper was beautiful. The lamb was just delicious. All up, great. The service though was exceptional. Was never rushed. Was treated beautifully. I had one of the nicest dining moments I've had for some time. Thank you all!!!
Liz O'Carroll
Mark provided the best food for the function we had at this cafe/ restaurant. Everyone raved that their meals were delicious, hot and plentiful. His team of workers were exceptional as they made sure we had everything we needed.

beauuuutiful place and wonderful people, the muscles were INCREDIBLE so fresh. so good. mum and I chatted with the lovely staff as they were closing and one lovely person gave us some frozen desert limes to take home cause we were curious about them. warm and cosy interiors too [:

Loved this place for breakfast while staying in Apollo Bay. Very friendly staff and great service. Had the most amazing fluffy pancakes with banana and maple syrup. Delicious thank you! :)
Rachel QueenieMagpie
Had a wonderful Carrot, Ginger and celery juice. Was delicious and perfect. Fresh juices are getting harder to come by so I appreciated finding this beautiful little place on the foreshore

I spent this past weekend in Apollo Bay and decided to come here for breakfast after seeing it recommended. I had a tofu scramble for breakfast and it was so delicious. My husband and I decided to visit again the next day and were once again not disappointed. Staff were very friendly and when I ordered something that was unavailable, they helped me to find something else on the menu that I would enjoy. I definitely recommend giving this place a go!
Anita Gibbs
Love everything about this place. Very chilled, great service, excellent food, great coffee. Had breakfast and dinner there and it was faultless.
Paul Rudge
Superb food excellent menu . Free range eggs chocolate brownies gluten or not to die for. I'd fly 24 hours just for the experience. Superb
Annie Bayley
fantastic food best on great ocean road staff are really lovely everyone should eat here
Shane Hill
Hands down the best brownie in australia! Lasagna was also delicious.
Brittany Anne
Lovely store! Great service and food/products! Staff are very friendly & great vibe!
Janelle Barry
Food was amazing. Fresh and delicious. Highly recommend you eat here!
Faye Dunn
Lovely food and great service. Will definitely go there again.

Way too much oil in the omelette, almost like it was deep fried. They have an orange juice machine that will give you a head ache it is so noisy.
Ursula Brain
The meal we ordered was not as described and when we brought this to the cooks attention she was condescending and rude. I will never go back.
Bill Hurley Fraser
Great Cafe, lovely owners and staff. Always guaranteed a nice meal.
Harley Harrington
Simply Devine and the chef is one attractive bearded man!
Mahyar Hesari
Good dinner and were open later than some other places. Got busy when we got there so it was taking a bit longer than you’d expect but they explained and gave us a complementary salad.
There were too many bugs inside at night but they couldn’t do much about it as the door can’t be shut. Hopefully they can resolve that

Popped into random shop for breakfast and this was our pick. And we didn't made a wrong choice after all. Foods portion were big and nice to eat. The tomato was way so juicy! Can't craved for more! Overall, we leave with a happy and full stomach!

Great little spot! Friendly staff and the best big mug of coffee outside Melbourne city ☕️ poached eggs were perfect, toast was yummy, mushrooms cooked well. I highly recommend ☀️

I ate here yesterday and feel compelled to write a review. At first I was excited by the tofu scramble on the menu but ended up very disappointed. Have never seen a tofu scramble so drowned in soy sauce in my life, think my blood pressure went up due to the amount of salt I consumed in that one meal. Coffee was undrinkable. For the price they charge you also expect them not to use the lowest quality sliced bread.. Its a tourist town so they probably don't care about the quality of the meals since you're unlikely to return regardless and that really shows.
Liam Lea
Went here for breakfast, messed up coffee orders, under cooked meals and doused in soy sauce. Terrible meals, over priced. Would give lower if I could.
Sir Brunch-A-Lot
Delicious big breakfast with vegetarian friendly options. Very good price for a breakfast during peak summer period, especially with not heaps of yummy options in a small coastal town. Would recommend this or the bay leaf cafe for breakfast/brunch.

Driest muesli in Victoria? Maybe? Probably... Not enough yoghurt, not enough fruit, too much sand. Below is a picture that I took of my meal.

Not a very good experience at all. We like to support veg-friendly and healthy cafes, so I leave this feedback in the hopes that Sandy Feet will be able to make some improvements.
The biggest disappointment was the veggie burger. When I first got it, it was all gooey like it was uncooked, so I called a staff member and asked whether it was supposed to be like that. He said no, took it away, but what came back was little better - this time with just a slight bit of a crisp coating about 0.1mm thick. The rest was still all gooey and raw. Couldn't eat the whole thing.
The hot chocolates were made with water, not milk - and 3x too sweet. Hardly drinkable.
My son got veg/tofu stirfry with rice. That was okay, except the rice was in a solid dry little lump that was hard as rock and he couldn't even cut through it with a knife. He ate about 1/3 of the dish.
My wife got scrambled tofu - which was way too salty and also very ordinary packet bread, rather than some nice sour dough bread or anything like that. She got an almond milk cappuccino, which was actually very good. So that was one plus mark.
Similarly, my other son ordered smashed avocado on toast. They waited until serving us all before mentioning that there was no avocado. in the end they went and hurriedly purchased an avocado and made the dish. But when it came, it was dry toast from ordinary packet bread, half an avocado sliced on the side and some lumps of fetta on the side too - all separate, not presented as a nice dish.
Sometimes I understand a cafe will not get a dish perfectly correct all the time here and there. But Sandy Feet managed to score low marks on practically everything.
On the plus side, we had fun joking about what Gordon Ramsey would say. But it wasn't fun dropping $80 on this place. Disappointing.

Good coffee and vegetarian lasagna although i wished that the serving of the lasagna was bigger and the portion of the salad was smaller. The beef burger was good too. Friendly service and food was quick to come out. Definitely a stand out in Great Ocean Road!

Decided to give this cafe a go based on mostly positive reviews, despite the menu seeming quite basic. Very disappointing experience all around. The food took a long time to come out and when it did my order was wrong. The food itself was bland, flavourless and lukewarm. The only positive was the coffee, which was great.
Kat Weightman
Big breaky was pretty good. Granola and poached pears was delicious. Staff were nice. Menu is quite healthy but has enough to keep everyone happy

Made me come back for more... delicious food.. and also alot of veg options.. ☺️☺️ situated at the heart of the town.. and very good service and staff.. just delicious

We have had 2 breakfasts here and the place is just lovely. It's got a relaxed vibe, REAL food and friendly staff. Highlights were the little breakfast (hubby enjoyed this a lot) and I can't go past the Bircher muesli, which is like eating a bowl of healthy sunshine. The muesli is gorgeous but the great quality yoghurt and fresh fruit make for a stunning presentation as well as taste. Also loved that the first day we went, I asked for my teapot to be refilled with hot water (which was done happily) then the second day they asked if I wanted a bigger pot! That's service!

Loved their package free section - great for me to grab a some little bit and pieces to cook with like spices, flour, nuts and more! Thanks :)

Easily located on the Great Ocean Road in Apollo Bay, Sandy Feet Cafe serves up some great breakfast options with vegetarian, gluten free and allergy conscious options available.

They also have an extensive selection of health food supplies including; dietary specific foods, spices, dietary supplements, organic products and much more, located near the rear of the cafe.

At this cafe, you order and pay at the counter before taking the seat. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. I’d definitely be back when I’m in the area for more of that delicious hollandaise!

Check out the review of Sandy Feet Cafe in the blog post below.

I've been here before and I got a meatball wrap and I remember it was nice but they could've added other fillings as well. I went here for lunch today and ordered the vegetable lasagna. It came on a plate with plenty of salad 🥗 which was an ok tasting. I was quite disappointed with the lasagna, it tasted like the vegetable lasagna my sister makes which I like but it was mostly pasta, there was hardly any vegetables. I felt like I was just eating soft pasta. I also ordered a lemongrass and ginger tea and a caramel slice to share. The lemongrass and ginger tea was in a teabag but it was still good quality. The caramel slice was very rich like I expected. The staff working here were very nice. I'd probably come back after seeing what the other cafes are like.

Fantastic!! Had the open sandwich with spinach, tomatoes, bacon a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. Everything looked great and tasted even better. Sandy Feet Cafe delivered potentially one of the best hollandaise sauces I have ever tasted! Well done guys! Try this place if visiting the bay! Big thumbs up.

Came here for a couple of coffees and cold drinks and to get a feel for the cafe.

There is plenty on offer for drinks which was quite appealing and their delivery was pretty quick.

We unfortunately found both the coffees (flat white and strong latte) to be lacking in flavor and probably too much on the hot side considering we had not asked for "extra hot".

The decor in the front half was quirky and interesting however the kitchen and counter areas toward the back severely take away form the experience as they almost operate in darkness.

After inspecting the menu we will likely return to try the food as we were quite impressed by the diverse offerings, a very big selling point for this cafe.

We are unlikely to try the coffee again as we were left disappointed.

Eggs cooked well and omelette was nice. Served on basic supermarket bread so the prices are expensive considering this. We also had to wait at least 25 minutes for our breakfast.

Great little cafe, delicious omelettes! I would highly recommend this cafe for those looking for a healthier alternative to the standard country fried breakfast. We'll be back next time we're in the bay!
Viet Quoc Truong
We had 2 sandy feet burgers, which are flavorful, a curry of the day, which is tasty yet light and easy to eat, and a warm salad, which is also awesome. Highly recommend to anyone coming here to Apollo Bay

Breakfast this morning and chose Sandy Feet after reading reviews for township. I had one of the specials "Huevos Benedictos" - bacon/avocado/poached eggs on toast (gluten free for me) with hollandaise and homemade tomato salsa. All amazing and felt the salsa really enhanced dish. Letdown by commercial hollandaise - woeful! Same pattern for Man-I-Love. He ordered Big Foot Breakfast. All very good except for baked beans out of tin/jar. Disappointing and not eaten. Coffee very good and all served quickly on a crisp Tuesday morning.

Really pleased we decided to stop here! Following fellow Zomato users before us, we picked the highest rating cafe in the area and were not let down. Coffee lovers, don't be afraid to grab one here - definitely not disappointed with what was served. Some great options on the menu too. Food was excellent, will be back!

This Cafe definitely serves the best food in Apollo Bay! Decor definitely does not match the cost, looks a bit to casual. But the food is beautiful! I had the chickpea curry which was full of flavour. Service was slow and non attaintive. I think they need to hire more staff! Would definitely recommend and would return for sure!

Thank god for this cafe in Apollo Bay because we were really struggling for choice - especially because I'm vegan. The other eateries look like my old high school tuck shop or some old 80's Kmart diner (remember when you could eat at Kmart?!). This cafe has good soul food. They made a really nice soy loose leaf chai (I think it was Prana Chai). They do good coffee too according to the family. We had a vegan pumpkin soup with garlic bread and the falafel wrap which had the best flavour. Mum had the curry which was good too. They have heaps of gluten free cakes at the front and a vegan cake, plus a few cold vegan salads with chickpeas, quinoa and all the other good stuff. Fresh juices and smoothies - really a great menu and place!

Ate dinner there last night, food was delicious and it was the best meal I've eaten in AP thus far. Wonderful customer service, a lovely experience.

Very tasty food. The soups here are delicious, hearty, freshly made, very tasty and a generous serve. Nice place for a quick meal in Apollo bay

Heart Warming Breakfast place. Visited this place with my sis on last winter. lovely place for a great breakfast in Apollo Bay

Good food bad customer service. Stopped in for breakfast. The food was lovely and a great selection of items on the menu as well as to purchase. However the customer service was terrible, the lady that served me was abrupt and rude - not what I expected from such a small friendly town

Sea food plater fit for kings. Sea food plater for to it was amazing and quite cheap compared to other restaurants in the area , the staff where lovely and very eager , it made the atmosphere a perfect night out , 5/5

Very rude service. Went to cafe for breakfast today and asked one question about whether the omelette contained cheese, as I have a severe allergy to cheese (which I think is a reasonable question to ask). Was met with a very rude response simply stating "does the menu list cheese under the omelette? " to which I responded no it does not. " and the lady working there rudely said "then there is no cheese in it is there " and turned away from us. We were very insulted with such a poor lack of customer service.

We are in town for three nights and I can safely say we will not be returning to spend our money here when service is so poor.
Gavin Brown
Excellent sized entrees big enough to share - the Kangaroo, Squid and Damper were delicious.

Great food and service. We just had dinner at the cafe for new years' eve. We had our one year old daughter with us. The staff were so accommodating and ensured that our daughter's dinner was served quickly. We were very impressed to see that her 'kiddies' fish' was a gorgeous piece of swordfish with potato gratin and salad. Our meals were also lovely and we could not fault the service.
Ryan
Bircher muesli was very good and bacon and eggs on toast was as you'd expect. Good coffee

We had dinner with our kids on Cup Eve. We chose the herbed damper, pan seared Snapper, the Rump steak and the penne con pollo for the kids to share. The damper was a bit dry and hard, obviously not freshly baked that day, but the penne in rose sauce was flavoursome and kids seem to enjoy it. Unfortunately there wasn't much chicken though. The steak was cooked perfectly, but doused in way too much thick gravyish sauce. The snapper was a bit over cooked and tough. The worst part was they cooked the skin crispy but turned it upside down and plonked it skin first into the sauce. By the time I tried it, the skin had become soggy. This was very disappointing. The potato gratin was lovely though and the complimentary side salad balanced and nice. The wine was good though and the service was fairly prompt. I think this place does a much better breakfast... The food was reasonable but needs some tweaking to get the elements right. Fresh damper for entree would have made the meal so much better.
Np
Terrible experience. Rude, unfriendly staff and the breakfast was stone cold!
Sl
Shame about the service. I really wanted to like this place but was first ignored then scowled at when trying to order takeaway coffee. A greeting and smile isn't so hard, is it? The coffee was really average unfortunately too - too milky. What a shame.

Great Coffee and great health food products!. I visited on Tuesday and ordered a couple of lattes and a slice of carrot cake. The young Englishman who served me (and also made our coffees) was very polite and helpful, and also made a couple of delicious coffees - the best we have had in a long time!
After our coffees was browsed the products they had on sale - lots of stuff for making healthy food which was great!
Will definitely be returning.

All day brekky. My wife and I eat here all the time. Only cafe in Apollo Bay that does all day brekky and the variety is really good too.
Ange Hayes
Good coffee, lowsy service. Waitress got our order wrong after a long wait.

Nice try, but no cigar. Not quite, anyway.

A very promising menu but let down today by some very simple mishaps.

My wife had the Pumpkin soup was very good. I decided to be ultra healthy and ordered the Tofu Scramble with sautéed onions, capsicum, tomato, spinach and mushrooms tossed with marinated tofu and tamari. Great flavours and all in all a good, if not spectacular, dish.

We also had the gluten free picnic cake, a blend of dried fruits and nuts. Very nice.

Small issues: verrrrrrrry slow service with orders placed after ours served well before. Also, a fork was offered with the cake and then not delivered, and the soup came with a knife and fork, rather than a spoon.

All in all, worth coming to especially if you are looking for gluten free options. Just be alert for your cutlery. ;-)

Really big and great big foot breakfast worth trying

This cafe is fantastic! My partner and I weren't sure what we wished to eat, and we were spoilt for choice at Sandy Feet.
Plenty of GF and V options. The vibe of the cafe was good, positive and welcoming. The food was amazing. We had the tuna and corn pattie with salad, which was nicely spiced and jam packed with veggies. The coffee was great and the GF dessert was delicious! The service was friendly and I would definitely recommend the Sandy Feet Cafe to anyone wishing for a reasonably priced, delicious meal in Apollo Bay!

Will go elsewhere next time. Came in today for breakfast as all the other spots were too busy. We sat inside a very hot cafe and the service was bad from the start. The waitress slapped our meals down when they arrived... Wasn't the best way to serve.

The little breakfast had one good egg and one questionable egg that smelled a little off to be honest. The bread was standard loaf slices with a couple of rounds of bacon and a few overcooked mushrooms. I had a chicken foccacia which was ok... Yet nothing good enough to have me rushing back.

GREAT VIBE. Took family (hubby, kids 2 boys and 1 girl) for lunch Wednesday and everyone LOVED IT. Good coffee, good food and great vibe. Staff very nice and helpful. Will be back next school hols!!
Simon Thomas
Very good. Had a long mac, strong latte, 2 caramel and 1 soy strawberry milkshakes. After having some very disappointing coffees elsewhere we would be more than happy to return.
Julia Eats Melbourne
Average.. Unfortunately, Sandy Feet cafe served me a very average salad yesterday, which I could have made myself for around $1. The rest of my table had fairly average meals too - I won't be returning.
AmericanOz
Great spot for a bottle of wine.
Fab's
Poor service and poor food, they also managed to stuff up our orders even though we where the only two people in the store.
0fficeGir1
Nice homemade soup and toast to warm us on a cold day. Coffee had strange taste - gets you in the back of the throat. Lots of flies didn't add to the experience. Unfortunately can't recommend!
Traveller17
Service was poor. The lady at the counter was not particularly helpful and appeared frustrated at 9am.

Upon serving cold toast to five people (in our party of seven) she told me that was because she was preparing many breakfasts for our group ie 7. She then turned around and asked her colleagues what to do about "cold toast".

I was disappointed by her attitude and behaviour. She appeared to be mocking me to her colleagues. The restaurant was not busy when we were there so I found her reasoning and excuse quite poor for a service based industry.
UHill
Won't be going back. Visited here recently during a short stay in Apollo Bay. Service took forever. Walked in, I was the only customer, staff saw me and ignored me. Service was not exactly unfriendly but not welcoming either-- a smile wouldn't hurt. Tried again the next day. Again no customers, staff took their time then took FOREVER to put my order on a plate. How hard can it be? Food on plate. Give plate to customer. Simple, you'd think. Will try elsewhere next time.
Matt Smith
Coffee was very good without being great - piccolo lattè was close to great. BLT was excellent, cooked breaky average - poached eggs came out fried, cooked tomato was well under done. Liked the vibe of the joint.
Polos Hermanos
What a disappointment. There was no one in the cafe when myself, Polos, and my lover arrived, yet it took 15 minutes to get our coffees. There were 4 staff members at the counter, none of which were attentive. The coffee Polos had was good, but that was the only positive thing about Sandy Feet.
Jarod87
We loved it!. Came here for dinner while spending the night in Apollo Bay, as it looked like one of the more affordable places along the beachfront. The service was excellent, the owner was in the restauarant and was very friendly, chatting with us politely, but letting us enjoy our meal too. We both ordered a steak which was delicious and came with nice sides and amazing sauce! For a starter we chose the herb damper... It was awesome, huge portion and delicious! Highly recommend this place.. And the damper!
Peter Naoum
Worst service I have experienced in a very long time. The amount of time they took to prepare our order, the food should have been perfect. Needless to say it was far from this. Drinks arrived at odd times and mains were served with long periods between. When the last main finally arrived it was dropped in front of me, on the newspaper I was reading without even a word of apology for the wait. Sandy Feet need a lesson in how to run a good cafe. Unfortunately they probably survive on the non-return tourist trade in Apollo Bay. Ordinary meals combined with very poor service. I won't be back.
Alex
Not so impressed. We went here for breakfast on a Tuesday to wrap up our holiday. My partner ordered the red lentil soup, which was fairly unimpressive, but passable. I ordered the curry of the day, which was Thai Green Chicken curry. It was horrible. Barely tasted like a curry and looked as though it had already been digested once. We will NOT be returning.

Great place! A local taxi driver actually tool us here after hours to purchase left over sandwiches! Very fun owners and yum food

Waited toooo long for a simple toasted sandwich. Forgivable maybe...however tbe womans Guy Sebastian singalong in the meantime has left a scar on my soul from which I may never recover.

The moment I walked into this little want to be hippy chilled out cafe , I just fell in love. Greeted by a very cute Irish girl with a spectacular smile, who talked me into trying their real chai ,which was heaven. It looked to be understaffed and busier than expected but the service was still outstanding by the front of house girls, with there easy going humor and giggles as they held the place together.
Decided to stay for breakfast and tried a chai seed omelette which was awesome.
If I ever get the oportunity to return to apollo bay again I will return not just alone for the chai but to see that Beautiful smile again.
Trekka10
Stopped here for a coffee. The service was good & the coffee is a smooth mild blend.

This Cafe restaurant is located on the main street, with great ocean and coastline views. The decor, is industrial design, with one wall a striking terra-cotta colour, decorated appropriately, with Bare Foot prints. Outside on the footpath there are tables and chairs, with umbrellas. The menu is varied and extensive, catering for, breakfast lunch and diner. We chose from the breakfast menu, tomato, bacon & eggs, Well prepared and enjoyed. From the lunch menu, Smoked Salmon Tortilla, very tasty and very affordable prices. The coffee is excellent, "Mahalia Roast" from a world coffee Barrista Champion, who lives in Robe SA. Also available is a huge amount of organic, delicatessen-bulk food supplies. The Cafe was the recipient of the Special Judges Business Award 2010. Understandable it is busy, yet the service was attentive and friendly. Good call, recommend.
Gin
Service was pretty slow (but it was a busy Boxing Day). The cup used for my espresso wasn't as clean as I expect and a gigantic teaspoon arrived alongside (haven't cafes ever heard of coffee spoons??). Didn't eat there but the guy on the table next to us did and 'enjoyed' burnt bacon on his meal !!
Emmanuelle Deloménède
Lovely café!. The food was very tasty and fresh! Loved the range of organic and bulk food inside :) Got myself the yummy unhulled tahini that I had in my falafel wrap! Oh almost forgot, chai latte was divine BTW!
Ashley Burns
My fiancé and I ate here while on holiday. The service was very poor. My partners food came out first she orders the Mexican chicken wrap which had been smothered in sweet chilli sauce of all things. Obviously when you order a Mexicali style dish the last thing you would expect is sweet chilli so we took it back and after a lengthy unnecessary chat to both the cook and lady behind counter they begrudgedly gave our money back for the sweet chilli soaked Mexican wrap. Meanwhile I'm yet to get my food and another couple in the restaurant who arrived after us where munching away on the same thing I had ordered.. When I questioned the lady about my meal she told me it's on it way. Another 15min pass by and i finally get my barely toasted focaccia. Yuck! Over all a terrible dinning experience and I would not recommend this place to any one.
Fish
Great cafe. It has a old style feel about it and the decor isn't great but it definitely delivers. I ordered the bircher muesli and it was right up there with the best I've had. Topped with banana, apple and strawberries, top choice. They do breakfast all day too. They also have a good selection of foccacias and wraps. The soups if the day were a steal at $9, I would have loved to have tried the red lentil and vegie one. They also offer a selection of gluten free cakes and muffins and the usual coffees. A great chilled quick and easy stop in.

We hadn't dined at Sandy Feet before, although it seems to have been open for a while, on the main street through Apollo Bay, across from the foreshore area. We visited over Easter and it was fairly busy inside but no diners were keen on eating outside.
