Mammoth is one of those cafes that just gets everything right and makes you wish you lived in the area so that it could be your local. From the light filled space with it's modern, pastel decor; to the friendly staff who are so sweet and welcoming; Mammoth really is a fun and vibrant place to dine.

The menu has a lot of interesting options and we started with a zesty berry smoothie and some fantastic coffees. This gave us time to look around and enjoy how spacious the cafe is. It was full, so it's evidently quite popular in the area, and all the outdoor tables were full too.

We started with the zucchini fritter, which interestingly came as one big fritter, rather than a stack; and I actually loved this idea. The fritter was perfect, with it's crispy outer crust and soft, yummy filling. Topped with two fried eggs, crispy kale and delicious smoked salmon and lots of cheese; this really was the most amazing fritter that I've had recently. Such a generous portion, completely delicious, and such an elegant looking dish. We couldn't resist a side of haloumi chips, and we were so glad with the decision. Crispy and golden with that tasty, salty cheese... simply divine.

The pancake stack was also fabulous, with two huge fluffy pancakes sandwiched with berry coulis, topped with excellent quality ice cream and heaps of fresh berries. You can taste the freshness and quality in this perfect stack, and again it was a big serve, so perfect for sharing. I loved these pancakes, and they were a fabulous base for all the accompanying flavours.

In a part of Melbourne that has quite a lot of cafes and restaurants, Mammoth has managed to stand the test of time with it's exciting menu, fabulous service and cool vibe. It's popularity is proof that they consistently deliver the goods and have definitely found that winning formula for success.

Visited Mammoth last weekend and the weather was nice and sunny so we sat outdoor. On the day we ordered:
- Poke bowl with extra salmon and crispy tofu
- Corn, feta & zucchini fritters
- Coconut and berry buttermilk hotcakes
- OJ w/ carrot juice
- Apple juice
My favourite would be the fritters with the 2 sunny sides up, the fluffy fritter with the crispy kale. The poke bowl was nice, fresh and colourful. The hotcakes looks vibrant with all the berries around the plate.
The cafe is right next to Toorak station and there are plenty of parkings on side street. Would recommend others to visit Mammoth if you’re nearby!

I visited Mammoth last week – greeted by many friendly staff and I was able to pick where to sit. There were indoor and outdoor seatings but I chose to sit outside.

We ordered the Poke Bowl with the Cured Salmon and the Crispy Tofu – this was one of the most amazing poke bowl I’ve ever had! The Salmon was very fresh and the crispy tofu was definitely crispy. Loved the thinly cut cucumber and the generous avocado serving. The brown rice was also cooked perfectly, I honestly couldn’t fault it.

We also ordered the Corn, Feta and Zucchini Fritter and the Coconut and Berry Buttermilk Hotcakes. Both dishes were great dishes. I loved the freshness of the berries with the hotcake. It was light and fluffy and the coconut flavour was quite strong. The fritter had sunny-side eggs on top which made the dish look super pretty. Topped with dried crispy Kale and shaved Parmesan, loved it.

Their apple juice was also very refreshing, but it was a little bit on the sour side. Overall, loved the experience and the food, a must try if you’re near the area.

A delicious brunch in a vibrant cafe with friendly staff and great decor.

We arrived, were offered a drink and seated with some tap water. Our waiter Liam was really chatty and offered his favourite menu options which I really liked.

We ordered
Chai latte
Green smoothie
Poke bowl with crispy tofu
Big breakfast
Chia pudding
Halloumi nuggets

Everything had immaculate presentation and had the flavour to go with it.

I had the big breakfast. I like that it’s not OTT it’s the brunch classics on a plate. You do have an option to add avo and an orange juice for that full Aussie breakfast experience. My eggs were poached perfectly.

The tofu was crispy and the poke toppings were bright and colourful to create a stunning summer feel dish.

The chia pudding wasn’t overly sweet, mixed with coconut yoghurt it just gives a nice creamy taste and texture with the fruit on top to add some sweetness and colour!

All in all a wonderful brunch.

Would go back for sure :)

Mammoth café is a beautiful café, conveniently located next to Toorak Station on Malvern Road in Armadale. The decorum was stunning - although the space was relatively small, they’ve used the space quite well, being able to seat a lot of people. We sat near the back next to the kitchen. They have such an extensive and creative menu, it was incredibly difficult to choose!

We ordered the Green Chicken Salad which came with poached chicken, broccoli, green beans, avocado, mixed leaves, toasted Tamara seeds and a lemon honey dressing. We also had the Poké bowl which was served with avocado, roasted nori, edamame, pickled ginger, black sesame seeds, seaweed salad, brown rice and poached chicken. We also had a side of fried halloumi nuggets and for drinks, we ordered a latté and a chai latté.

The Green Chicken Salad was super healthy and colourful. The avocado was ripe and delicious and the chicken was cooked to perfection. The lemon honey dressing wasn’t too sweet and it was a great addition to the salad. The Poké bowl was also incredible! The eggs were cooked well and all the fresh and fresh ingredients went so beautifully together. Moreover, both coffees were served just the way we liked them and we couldn’t fault them.

We were really taken care of by the team at Mammoth café and we had such an enjoyable experience. The customer service was exceptional.

We can see why this café is always so busy - we can't wait to return.

Lovely little Cafe located near Toorak Station.

We ordered
🍳 Egg Benedict
🥞 Lemon and Buttermilk Pancakes

The eggs Benedict came with an apple cider hollandaise. I was so happy that the taste of the apple wasn’t too overpowering but you can still taste a hint of it.

The pancakes I felt were a bit overpriced for what I got since they were $20. Also didn’t taste much lemon. It was a little heavy towards the end. Personally I felt that it would be nice if they split the 2 pancakes into 3, it would make the dish better and have more height to it, but taste wise it’s not bad.

Just as Melbourne has become known for its coffee, it seems every suburb is now boasting of wonderful cafes. The posh neighbourhood of Armadale with its designer shops and equally designer clad clientele, would be no exception. Mammoth was opened by husband and wife duo Loren and Jamie McBride in 2015. With café success already under their belt (touchwood, Barry and Pillar of Salt) it is no surprise that this new south-side hang out became the go-to.

Came here to try out and it did not disappoint us. It was full house but was relatively quick to get a table. We ordered to eggs benedict - the ham hock was tasty, potato rosti was the right portion and the apple hollandaise sauce was just nice. The breakfast ramen was not bad either. Noodles were not overcooked, and the bacon was tasty but the chicken dashi broth was a bit on the salty side. The poke bowl was also nice. Every ingredient in a small portion and covered the whole bowl and the flavours all mixed well together. The coffee was pretty good as well. Overall, we enjoyed the visit today!

I had previously visited Mammoth in 2017 so was very happy to be asked to come and try the menu again earlier this week! I love the corner spot location of Mammoth, just a stones throw away from the Torah Train Station and very close to public transport and the main drag of Malvern Road. The cafe is modern, bright, beautifully decorated as you enter and has a lovely air about it as you are directed towards the front counter almost immediately and greeted with the staff who were lovely and very helpful. It was early(ish) morning about 8.30am when I arrived midweek and I was surprised at the number of people there which is an indicator of its popularity later in the week/weekend.

We were quickly seated and got an explanation of standout/popular dishes and recommendations from our server. She brought over the batch brew with its tasting notes card for us to read - this was delicious and served in a big mug! I was in coffee heaven! As for the menu, I loved the variety of dishes as well as how brekkie/brunch staples had their own Mammoth twist - like the dukkah crumbed egg (their version of a Scotch egg) which comes with their version of Smashed Avo with a Middle Eastern twist. I ended up ordering this dish as it was too hard to resist trying it from the description however I opted to do gluten free and have poached eggs instead. Other items ordered were the Benedict, Haloumi Nuggets (after the server insisted they were to die for) and some sides (spinach/mushrooms).

We didn't wait too long for our food which was plated beautifully - I loved the colours of the dishes - it made me excited to eat! Sides were also of a decent portion so I was impressed. My Smashed Avo was delicious - I was very happy and the flavours worked very well together. The Benedict was also well balanced and just the right portion. The Haloumi Nuggets were crunchy and gooey in the centre, paired with a spritz of lemon and you're laughing.

Overall had a great time at Mammoth - food and coffee were divine. I'd highly recommend it.

Not too shabby for my second corn fritter ever but kinda undermining 🤔

FOOD: I ordered the corn, zucchini and feta fritter. When I saw it on the menu, it sounded divine and it came pretty fast. The star of the show for me was... the kale! I’m not even joking! I have never had kale be cooked so deliciously so I have to give them MAJOR props to them because it tasted amazing! The eggs were a great addition to the fritter but the fritter was unfortunately, pretty underwhelming. The portion was fair but I tasted no feta 🤷🏻‍♀️ It was mostly corn and just some peppery batter. It was pretty good but just don’t expect the most feta-y flavour. The kale was HEAVENLY tho!

SERVICE: Service was friendly and quick!

Overall, Mammoth is a pretty good cafe and considering I went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was fully packed, it says alot. The food was not too bad and I’m hoping to come back to try their Lemon Hotcakes next time!

Had brunch at Mammoth on a Sunday and we were seated immediately. Right off the bat it’s pretty obvious that Mammoth’s a neighbourhood café with the crowd being locals. It’s aesthetically-pleasing with white interiors and brightly-lit with natural light.

We got the Soy Chai, Breakfast Ramen and Hotcakes. Everything was delicious. Really appreciated that the soy chai was not overly sweet. Breakfast Ramen was our favourite! Would’ve loved the hotcakes more if they were warm when served.

Service was great where we were given ample time to chat over coffee after finishing up our food.

We were invited to Mammoth today which has had a change of ownership and refurb, the one thing hasn’t changed is that it is still hugely popular. I began with a delicious PB&J smoothie as I perused the menu.

I was told the apple crumbled porridge was a popular choice and the smashed avo was recommend so opted for both of those. The avo dish was fairly unique, quite middle eastern inspired and had a lot going on with lemon labneh, dukkah and crispy chickpeas. I thoroughly appreciate that I was given a proper knife to eat this. So many times I’m trying to saw through sourdough with a butter knife which makes it really unpleasant.

The porridge was lovely and warming and essentially the sin free way to enjoy an apple crumble dessert. Hubs opted for his default chilli scrambled with mushrooms and also tried the halloumi nuggets which I’m told were very satisfying. Overall a very tasty brunch

One of the most delicious brunch offerings in Melbourne. There's always something new and enticing on the menu which are both delicious and beautifully presented. Generally busy on the weekend and popular with the yummy mummy set of Armadale during the week so be prepared to wait but it's absolutely worth it to try something different and creative. The only thing I can fault are the filthy menus

Mammoth is such a gorgeous cafe right next to Toorak Station. The building itself is on a narrow corner so has a flatiron shape which is really cute and it’s so warm and welcoming inside. As it was a sunny (but cold) day we sat outside (plenty of small and big tables so very pup friendly!) and were very grateful for the blankets available to snuggle into.

Their modern brunch menu is so inventive and interesting with so many unique dishes and twists we wanted to try. We finally chose:
🍜 Breakfast Ramen with thick cut bacon, chicken dashi broth, egg noodles, soft boiled egg, bean sprouts, coriander and mint ($23 with $2 fermented chilli)
🥑 Avocado Dukkah Toast with a dukkah crumbed egg on smashed avo, crispy chickpeas, cucumber, lemon labneh, fermented chilli, cherry tomatoes and coriander on sourdough toast ($21)
🍏 Apple Crumble Porridge with cinnamon spiced apples, pecan crumble and yoghurt ($16)
🧀 side of Fried Halloumi Nuggets

All of the dishes were exceptional, interesting and full of flavour. I especially loved the breakfast ramen which was perfect on a cold day and the broth was so flavoursome and absolutely loaded with chunky thick cut bacon and perfectly chewy noodles. Also obsessed with the apple crumble porridge which is just the best flavour and loved the textures of soft oats, firm apple and crunchy pecan crumble - I could definitely eat this every day! The fried haloumi nuggets were such a yum savoury bite as well and loved the fresh vibrant flavours of the avo toast.

All in all an outstanding brunch and would definitely return to try more of their amazing menu!

📝: Tucked into a stand-out building on the corner of Malvern Road and Beatty Avenue, Mammoth serves up totally innovative and creative range of menus.

The space that is super bright and airy, decorated with blue steel and brown leather stools, American-oak surfaces and a pastel blue terrazzo tiled floor.

The cafe’s brightly lit with natural light coming in from every direction, making the white space more modern and minimal, yet slightly warmed by the oak furnitures.

❤️: With a great selection of creative dishes, we opted for three totally different dishes in order to sample a range. And they were all delicious in their own way.

My favorite was this colorful, vibrant Poké Bowl. Seaweed salad, avocado, roasted bori, edamame, kewpie, pickled ginger, black sesame seeds, sriracha mayo, fermented chili, served on brown rice with cured salmon and oozy poached eggs.

Another great classic brunch alternative is the Breakfast Ramen. Such a decadent broth (even better with chili jam), topped with half boiled eggs and bacon. Just perfect for winter.

Chia Pudding came with coconut, agave, lime, toasted seeds and almonds topped with seasonal fruits. Creamy and not too sweet.

Thank you @bigmelbappetite for bringing me on this fun and amazing brunch!

😱Lizzie’s first impression: This humble cafe is situated on the corner of a busy street of Armadale. The store looks minimalist yet inviting. The staff are great and they have a great selection of breakfast and lunch options that is different to other places.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: First off, I’d like to say that the cafe is shaped like the flat iron building and so the entrance is through the tip/corner.

I tried the Corn, Feta and Zucchini fritter with smoked salmon on top and the presentation was absolutely spot on! The fritter was soft yet had me coming back for more bites every time. The eggs were cooked perfectly on top and was the perfect finishing touch to the dish. I loved the flavours especially with the deep fried kale.

Next was the Avocado Dukkah on toast - I personally do not like avocado but I couldn’t resist when I saw Dukkah crumbed eggs. To my surprise, this dish turned out to be delicious - I loved the tangy flavour from the lemon that cut through the eggs and avacado (almost like guacamole) and ended with a nicely toasted piece of sourdough that was buttered to my liking. The dish was done so well and it looked superb.
Last but not least, the hotcakes with strawberries and cream. It was simple yet delicious. The pancakes were so soft and I loved how the whipped cream wasn’t as sweet to give the pancakes another texture along with the caramelised strawberries in a sugar syrup. They even topped it with some roasted walnuts that complemented the dish so well with its crunchy texture and savoury flavour. So clever!

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: N/A.

🥇Lizzie rates overall: I loved this cafe so much and I can’t wait to go back to try out more dishes. Ambience was great and wasn't too noisy or busy on a Saturday, staff are really lovely also. A Must try in this area - another top brunch spot in my books!

LOVE THIS PLACE! 😁 really cool bright modern theme that just makes you wanna walk in, order a coffee and some food and read the paper like there are no cares in the world 😊 brilliant menu range with an ALL DAY breakfast and lunch! You can't complain about that 😍 i can do a benny or chilli scrambled at any time of the day! ☝🏽 lets get down to the business side of things.. the food 🤤

✅ 8.5/10! DELICIOUS QUALITY FOOD! 🙌🏽

🔥 HIT - one of the clear stand outs for me was the chilli scrambled eggs! 😉 to be honest some cafes are just making it for the sake of having it on the menu.. not mammoth! 😏 they do it damn well! Combination of chilli and herbs topped with cheese, this chilli scrambled packs such a good flavour punch! 😍 well done team, love it! 👌🏽 next up the salmon poké bowl 🥘 MASSIVE fan! Fresh, tasty, healthy and a generous serve! I love the chipotle sauce blend used 🤤 brings all the ingredients together perfectly for a well rounded, well made dish! 😁 lastly the apple crumble porridge.. 😯 if i could uber eats this on a cold day for a netflix marathon, you know i would 😅 such a homey, warm, comfort dish that covers ALL its bases ☝🏽 CREAMY porridge that had a perfect consistensy, accompanied by sweet warm apple underneath, covered in a sugary crunchy crumble on top 🤤 my oh my... *double checks uber eats* 😅 fantastic dishes! 😍

💨 MISS - Without the rosti the chilli scrambled eggs would put you back $19.5 💰 which is a little high considering the size of the dish 🤔 I would recommend getting the rosti if you do have a big appetite 😁

💡 TIP - the scrambled eggs are your go-to IMO! 😉

Mammoth cafe is such a lovely corner spot located in Armadale right next to Toorak station.

For food, I ordered their poke bowl, avocado dukkah roast & apple crumble porridge.

The poke bowl had a generous amount of salmon and I loved everything in it, especially when you mix everything together in their sriracha mayo!

The highlight of my visit was definitely the apple crumble porridge. It literally tasted like an apple crumble! Loved the pieces of apples inside as well. The crumble on top added such a nice crunch and texture to the porridge.

For drinks, I had their coffee by Inglewood and a peanut butter smoothie.

I loved the peanut butter smoothie! The best part was the fact that they use OAT MILK!! It overall added an extra nuttiness to the smoothie.

Service was really great too, they were really friendly!

Gorgeous little cafe, the food is superb, I’ve never been disappointed. Can recommend the fritters - they are fresh and flavoursome, the chilli scram was beautiful too. The only reason I didn’t give 5 star is due to the 10% surcharge on a weekend, I haven’t never seen a “weekend surcharge” and thought it was quite cheeky.

Came here today for second time. First time was around 2 years ago when it first opened. Had lobster donut at that time so when we came here today was planning to order that. Was disappointed to know it's no longer on the menu. So we decided to have chilli chicken and chilli omelette instead.
The chilli chicken came with red rice (which totally surprised me at how good it is!). Crunchy element from the rice balanced with gooey poached egg cooked in chicken fat, and crunchy shallot balanced with chicken salsa that's bursting with flavour. The omelette was outstanding too.
Totally recommend for late lunch as the crowd dies down towards this hour.

A great cafe to visit for a spot of brunch without having to go into the CBD and easy parking...like!

SERVICE: 4/5
Service was quick and friendly enough. They took care in ensuring the order was correct and double-checked anything we asked about the menu that they weren't sure of. Appreciate their ease in taking bookings over weekends which is getting more rare nowadays.

Although the tables were getting quite full, we didn't feel rushed to finish and leave.

FOOD: 3.5/5
Overall decent selection of menu items with a focus on healthier brunch options. My critique is the price point, a little steeper than competitors even in the CBD and although enjoyable enough, people may feel they don't get value.

Herb and goat's cheese omelette with fried potato ($19): I hear this is the more generous-sized offering and I would say if any smaller, I wouldn't have been as pleased. The omelette itself was moist and fluffy with the perfect amount of goat's cheese and spring onion sprinkled on top. The "herb" component was mint and what seemed more like small salad leaves piled on top. The dish definitely needed the mint however some other micro herbs would've worked better than the salad leaves. The crispy potato pieces were the perfect accompaniment and gave the texture it needed.

Pineapple and coconut doughnut ($5): It looked great in the window and on paper but the taste wasn't as standout to make the calories worthwhile. It was quite moist and pillowy so potentially may be better in a different flavour.

Raw salmon poke bowl: I didn't get to eat this but the bowl looks amazing and comes with sauces. My friends regularly have this and love it. I will be back to try this one day.

Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting & peanut butter brownie: definitely tastes better than it looked. Appeared to be a little dry but both were so moist and flavourfull. Perfect with a cuppa and chit chat!

Unexpectedly I didn't enjoy my picollo coffee as much. It wasn't very smooth but rather bitter. My friend had the matcha latte which she said had clumps of powder still. The soy lattes are apparently much more enjoyable.

DECOR & AMBIENCE: 3.5/5
An all-white interior and exterior. Felt light and bright walking in with the counter and pastry display as the first thing you see. Split level flows through to kitchen and dining. We had a warm sunny table towards back near the windows and it was perfect to spend our girl's catch-up over the next few hours.

The outdoor seats on the pavement are very European and super cute, especially if you have fur babies with you.

KID FRIENDLY: Yes, doable.

This is my go to brunch place, delicious food, great coffee (and they have Bon Soy milk) and you can book! Wooohoo! I'm so over places where you have to line up, here at Mammoth you get the full shabang with extra bells and whistles. My favourite dish is the salmon and brown rice poke bowl! So much flavour without the brunch guilt! A great local with great service next to train station!

This place is the cutest little cafe.  Staff are ALWAYS smiling and friendly.  Food is always on point. I come here once a week at least and it's always good.  The menu has changed quite a bit and is a lot simpler which I don't mind, it's food you can eat more regularly. However the avocado dish hasn't changed which I am very thankful for as it's definitely the best I've ever had.
Seven Seeds coffee is always a winner too.

Welcome to Cards and Cafés and I hope you are ready to come along on a food adventure with us. Mammoth is located along Malvern Road in Armadale. With plenty of street parking long Beatty Avenue, I’m sure you’ll find parking stress free. If you prefer to take public transport, Toorak train station is basically next to the cafe......

Arrived just before 11am and got a table for three after roughly 10-15 minutes. Parking was
easily found along the street and side streets which had no limit on a Sunday.

>> Interior
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The cafe itself is small in size with a counter right at the front to one side which is filled with baked goods. Along the front is a few seats for waiting.
We were seated at a table which seated 6-7 people but was used like a shared communal table where we table shared with another table. This was a little uncomfortable as the table was small and was right next to a window which had no blinds (there was direct sunlight in my eyes for majority of my time there).
>> Service
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Service wise, everyone was attentive and prompt. Glasses of water were filled whenever they were empty and food came out in a timely manner.

>> Food/Drinks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The all day menu had a good variety of dishes to suit most preferences. All the dishes were delicious and well executed. From the beautifully presented corn and zucchini fritters to the poke bowl to the sweet and warm broth in the breakfast ramen. And while all the dishes were delicious, I found the price to be a little steep for the poke bowl and breakfast ramen (hence a slightly lower rating).
For dessert we shared two doughnuts (salted caramel and chocolate and raspberry) and a banana and chocolate cake which were both delicious!
>> Dishes that make up this review
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Raw salmon, brown rice, avocado, seaweed salad, toasted nori and spiced kewpie ($22)

Corn and zucchini fritters, fried egg, kale, feta ($18)

Breakfast ramen with mushroom broth, kaiserfleich, herbs and egg ($23)

Doughnuts ($5)

Banana and chocolate cake ($7)

Mocha ($4.20)

DO: Any of the regular breakfast items but my fav is/was green chilli eggs and bacon.

DON'T: Overstuff yourself. So many baked items on the counter that looked delicious and tasted even better.

TIP: Place is a bit small and very popular so be prepared to wait or sit outside.

Here's a pic of two yummy dishes we demolished back in February! We couldn't resist the healthy dishes especially because the presentation is so beautiful 🌈 mammoth is one of our go to places but it's always impossible to get a table as it is so yummy! The coffee is also very well made as it is not too bitter nor too watery. Definitely a place to put on the bucket list if you're one to try every cafe in Melbourne! ❤️

Breakfast ramen came in a tasty broth and a generous slice of kaiserfleisch. Smoked trout omelette was also good according to a friend who ordered it. But the breakfast bao was somewhat disappointing when compared to the ramen and omelette - maybe order it if you are just after something light. Coffee was decent. Wait staff was also attentive, even though we were seated outside. Wouldn't mind coming back again.

Seems to be with good reason, the breakfast and coffee were awesome. Had an omelette with hot smoked trout, an amazing sweet green sauce with house pickled onions, radish and herbs with two fried potato skins! Would eat this meal every week if I had the chance. Stumbled across this place on a hunger fuelled walk driven by a stinking hangover in search of sustenance. I was very happy with my find! To start I had a very decent chai latte. Also had The Avo on toast which was fresh and tasty and the pumpkin seed hummus added a different but tasty flavour. Also had a side of bacon for the hangover, wasn't blown away by the bacon to be honest. To finish I had a muffin which was also good. The room itself was bright and airy. Would definitely recommend and will be back 👍

Came here with a friend this morning and was very impressed. We both ordered lattes and the potato rosti with the feta salad. The potato rosti was crunchy on the outside with delicious sweet potato inside. The coffees were strong and came out quickly.

Great high ceilings and decor. Nice ambience in the cafe and it was buzzing with customers on a cold Sunday morning. Service was great - very friendly and helpful waiter who explained the dishes to us and was attentive without being overbearing. He even came out with a cloth and wiped a table dry for us. In Short: Stunning coffee, adventurous and delicious take on brunch, friendly service. Tip: Take a weekday off and chill here.

In 2 days in Melbourne, we saw the sun for about at an hour at sunset. For the rest of the time it mostly rained and blew a gale, but we expected it when visiting Melbourne. You know what though? We still fell a little more in love with the city. Cafes like Mammoth increased our amorous feelings for the 2nd largest city in the country. Located in Armadale, Mammoth is spacious and is filled with light. White washed walls are broken up with splashes of blue and the warm tones of the cabinetry. Even on a Friday morning every table is occupied. It never gets too loud in this triangular structure, with a nice atmosphere to refuge us from the four seasons of weather sweeping over the city.

I tried visiting Mammoth when it first opened some time ago and was greeted with queues snaking out of the door. Nope, not gonna queue for a table. Few months down the track and on a cold weekday afternoon, I came back to finally find out what I had missed. Apparently quite a lot since they change their menu every season. The spring menu offers much more lighter and healthier choices to help you detox your body in time for summer. A bit sad since I missed out on the Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta. Fortunately that meant I had the pleasure of enjoying their take on the traditional eggs benny. Served on a flat bread topped with mortadella, pickled onions and olives and slathered with tomato sauce, it looked like a distant cousin of a pizza. Beautiful and fresh flavours all combined together on the perfectly crispy flat bread, I'm not sure I want to go back to a traditional egg benny. My partner's green chilli eggs and thick cut bacon also showcased the chef's ability in allowing the natural flavours of simple ingredients to shine through. Only complaint was he wanted more bacon. But then again, he is always asking for more bacon. For once, we were in agreement that the quality justified the price. Same goes for the coffee, our skinny lattes had a sweet biscuity flavour and goes down smoothly on our palate. Visiting at a quiet time also meant that we were at the end of extremely attentive service and that we could slowly savour our meals in such a beautiful environment.

This is the second time coming to the cafe. The first time was back when the cafe had just opened. I was surprised that the menu was completely different from last time.

I ordered the apple strudel french toast and cappuccino. The french toast was very different from what I imagined, but in a good way. It was unique and tasted as great as it looked. I usually don't like deep fried dishes; however their deep fried french toast was not oily. It was very crispy and fresh. Every single element on the plate went well with the french toast. I asked them to put the sauce on the side to adjust the sweetness and enjoy it until the end.

Cappuccino was smooth and tasty.

The service was quick but no smile.

I went in on Wednesday on a whim with a friend. It's clean and modern but a bit rustic,  look was great. We ordered the Ramen and the Doughnut burger after way too much deliberation. While we were waiting for service we noticed a meal being delivered to another table which looked pretty terrific, not long after a taster arrived at our table! The doughnut was superb, light and fluffy with chicken katsu, cucumber jam, pickled daikon and lettuce. My friend was more than happy with the Ramen, said the broth was the best she's ever had but the pork belly was a bit of a letdown.  We said we were coming back to work our way through the menu only to be told it was changing the next day!
I've seen thenew menu and I'm going back,  and back, and back.
Oh, and the coffee is excellent, the service is classy and friendly. Excellent work to the team there!!!

Haven't got chance to try the famous grilled pineapple or ramen yet cause they already changed to spring menu. We ordered french toast and poached turmeric chicken salad, both outstanding. Normally I don't like poached chicken salad cause most of them are quite boring and tasteless. But this one was much better than what I expected, super soft chicken with super tasty dressing and it was super healthy.

Stopped by Mammoth for a late Sunday afternoon lunch and ordered from their all day breakfast menu. I ordered the North Shore. Smokey ham hock hash, flame grilled pineapple with a toffee glaze, tobasco, jalapino pepper croquette with poached eggs. The combination of unusual flavours caught my eye and tempted me. The dish lived-up to its promise with an impressive array of tastes and textures that worked together amazingly.

The venue is cute and the service was really good. Nice coffee to start as well. We ordered the turmeric eggs and the chicken katsu doughnut burger and shared. The menu was really interesting and the wait staff took some time explaining what we ordered. I enjoyed the eggs, the burger not so much, it was a burger with a doughnut as the bun with a few toppings, not overly flavourful or satisfying and came alone on the plate for $20. I would maybe go back to just because the menu was so different.

Donut burger was good. The salt and pepper donut indeed tasted like a donut but didnt feel it was "too much" with the chicken katsu patty. Enjoyed the pickled veg but my only complain was that the chicken katsu was too thin and small, for its price. The hawaiian-ish dish was interesting, especially the jalapeno with stuffed cheese - which i reckon is very subjective to one's tastebuds. The hamhock was good but portion was not enough to satisfy my friend. Grilled pineapple was really sweet, but i felt it was undercooked and didnt have the perfectly caramelised aroma. Had a long black which was too diluted, but it wasnt bad either.

A short review for my first trip as I only had the hotcakes but this place is definitely worth a repeat visit. The dish was perfect for a cold winters day and was not what I was expecting when it came out, a pleasurable surprise. The cake itself, the marshmallow and ice cream all worked, the only thing, and it's a small critique is that the chocolate covered disk/biscuit with cocoa power all over it overpowered the dish a little leaving some of my bites with just a cocoa flavour instead of any of the other flavours. With less cocoa or a tempered chocolate disk or twill of some kind, I think it would add the texture the dish needs without overpowering the wonderful strawberry flavour from the marshmallow or chocolate from the fondant hot cake. Very close to perfect.

Great little addition to Armadale. I was expecting big queues so was pleasantly surprised when I walked right in and got a table for 3 on a Saturday morning.

Service was quick and attentive. I ordered the Avocado Pesto with Black Sourdough and was taken aback when it came in a little clay pot dish and beautifully presented.

It was very tasty and definitely a creative and unique spin on the very popular and exhausted Avocado Smash.

Consistency 5/5. Coffee 5/5. Food 4.5/5. If there was an award for consistency, Mammoth would win hands down. Multiple visits, every experience top-notch. They would also probably take out the award for most inventive cafe menu that actually hits the mark. These people know flavors. One can almost see the thought that goes into composing each of their offerings as you gaze upon their impeccable presentation to having the different flavors and textures meld in your mouth. I would have rated Mammoth 5/5 if not for two things. One, service can be a little blasé. Two, the avo toast I had on one occasion was surprisingly underwhelming for something that they should have hit out of the ballpark.

The Chef and operator are cetainly on the ball being amongst the top. Upkeeping with the trendy Melbourne breakfast/brunch trade is a very demanding task and they have succeeded. Reservation is essential if you don't like to queue. The menu brags very inovative and alternative food combinations. The ramen noodle dish stood out to be a little too salty for me - I was corrected by my daughter, reminding me that Australian's generally eat saltier. Something that is different to the broad taste in the US and Asia.
A very pleasant Breakfast that really challenged my taste buds - a 55km drive well worth it.

Finally got around to ticking mammoth off the list! I was very surprised that they took bookings on the weekend so that made it easy! I started with the golden latte, very creamy and not too overwhelming. I ordered the Eggplant Toast with smoky eggplant, pickled green tomato, coddled eggs,
salt and vinegar artichoke, char sourdough, I also added bacon. It was delicious, I particularly liked the pickled green tomato. We also all shared the breakfast Ramen with smoked bacon and mushroom broth, ramen noodles, 62 degrees egg, kaiserfleisch, fermented chilli oil. EDIT VISITED 6/9 and the menu has been overhauled to be more standard and when I say that I'm a bit upset as I loved this place as it was DIFFERENT! Now it's eggs on toast, the usual suspects.

Service is always great here but my prediction is go back to funky food! The crowds changed to old people instead of young and funky which I loved about here as a few doors up at Rouge, Roccoco, Amalia its all the same food now.

Eggs were fine albeit a bit oily and bacon is amazing here - love the coffee and fresh juice too 😍

4/5 - Great new addition to the hood!

Being not so much of a fan of these hip new places going up its a good change from what's usually on offer in the immediate area - different choices and different flavours for a "different" brunch.

Today I came in with my little one and sat around the side outside as who knows what mood he's in so just in case of a meltdown outside is safest. Was like a wind tunnel so in the coming cooler months wear a jacket!

Almond milk coffee was really good. Not bitter and pure quality. We then had bacon on the side as we live for bacon and it was the best bacon we've had in ages. Really top notch.

The ham nuggets were really tasty but way too spicy for a toddler but the coffee sauce was good with it.

Next was a donut burger - chicken Katsu with a sweet jam and lettuce - really tasty. Although a bit big we could finish half the donut but delicious. Your brain thinks sweet and gets hit with pepper and salt. Chicken was all breast and quality.

Our server was friendly and checked a few things for me as being allergic to fish with so many Viet and south East Asian flavours on there better to be safe than epi pen sorry!

Fantastic menu with truly innovative and creative dishes that looks as good as they taste. I want to give this place 4.5 stars but there are a few really annoying things about this place.
1. The service is ok, you can get forgotten so be prepared to wave the waiters down with a bit more enthusiasm than you might like. They are friendly when you get their attention but they are also too cool to have a banter with you.
2. Be seated by 9am on the weekend or forget it.
3. Don't forget your ear muffs, the acoustics in this place is ridiculous. You won't be having a conversation with your breakfast companion.

Had the mango chia pudding and it was an absolute taste sensation! Not one to usually order chia, I had seen the photos on Zomato and thought it looked incredible. The mango jelly and purée combined with coconut and what appeared to be freeze dried lychees was delectable. My friend had the avocado on toast and also enjoyed that although I think that is a waste of an order at Mammoth given the innovative menu. Only criticism is that the chai is too weak and comes in a cappuccino cup.

I decided to try Mammoth after seeing it pop up in a couple of other food reviews. Got the around 10am on a Saturday & it was quite busy already. There's lots of street parking, so you'll be able to park a very short walk away.

It's an odd shaped cafe, but they use the space well. However, it's quite tight to move when it's crowded, so don't expect to stretch your legs until you leave. It's typically pleasant, with clean colors and lots of windows letting in natural light. The service was great; the staff were not obnoxious & it was easy to get their attention, even though they seem to be under the pump.

I ordered the Hightop, which was a puffed pancake and it was delicious. I liked the coconut, but wasn't a fan of the cherries. In saying that, I'd still very easily eat it again. My friends ordered the breakfast ramen & the north shore (ham hock, grilled pineapple & poached egg). The breakfast ramen is not something I'd ever order if I saw it on the menu, but once the food came out I had food envy! Lots of the other orders looked awesome too - the eggs benedict & eggs brûlée are on my list to try.

My only complaint would be that the drinks are a tad pricey; coffee starts at $4.20, extra for soy, and the fresh OJ was $8.

Overall, an attractive place with really different breakfast choices to your standard cafe. I'll definitely be back here again to try out more on their menu.

When I first walked into the cafe, the interior design and the setting caught my eyes first. Of course, I also love the food there. The food is creative. Apparently, I was told that they change their menu according to the seasons. T

We got the SzeChuan SpareRibs, it was not bad. However, I especially like the Egg Benedict w twice cooked duck breast showered with orange and coffee hollandaise!

The waitress was very friendly and attentive to the needs of the customers. The whole ambience is lovely!

Visited mid morning mid week with 2 friends. Was surprised that we were able to grab a table so fast as I have driven past and have seen line ups outside.

Service was prompt and friendly. The waitress was happy to point out the most popularly ordered dishes and answered all our questions.

I ordered the Doughnut Burger. Omg. This meal doesn't look much- but it was awesomely amaaaaaaazing!!!!!!

What is a doughnut burger?! It is a chicken katsu, green mango and papaya slaw; cucumber jam, chilli mayonnaise on a salt & pepper doughnut.

It was both salty and sweet. So many flavours. I eat out a lot. Too much- and I would have to say that this meal blew me away.

I also had a forkful of my friend's meal- the Hightop- a cherry laminating inspired crepe- and that was mind blowing too.

I actually want to return to Mammoth this week to try more dishes on the menu.

Super excellent.
Coffee was great too.
Well done!!!

We picked two very different meals for breakfast the gnocchi and the lobster donut burger. Both very tasty meals - gnocchi was full of flavor. Lobster donut burger was delicious but also weird at the same time, with the sweet and savory flavors. Service was friendly!

A corner cafe that makes good use of their space and a menu with some rather interesting combinations including the Doughnut Burger, a Katsu 'patty' and a cinnamon bun giving a sweet and savoury taste and complete makeover to the simple burger.

The home made gnocchi with ricotta cheese, sour cream and ragu was a nice change to the otherwise more meatier dishes and had plenty of flavour.

Coffee was good here too.

Very well presented but could do with a tiny change or two...
Went here on a Saturday morning with a friend, only waited 15 mins for a table but the beauty is they serve you coffee while you wait... The menu is very interesting, following suit with a lot of Melbourne cafes but nailing presentation.
The Benedict was amazing with the duck breast and homemade hollandaise. The rainbow salad is a miss, very large pieces of crunchy vegetables and barely any dressing. Food came out super quick, service was reasonable although they don't like change of seating, and pricing is to be expected for Melbourne.
Must get the Cobb Lane dog units as you leave, salted caramel is a must!!
Will definitely go back!

A relatively new coming to Melbourne's cafe scene and what an addition it is. From the moment you enter this corner store you notice the welcoming natural light. Staff are immaculately presented and the decor is all blonde timber and white, adding to the relaxed, clean look.
There was barely a table free around Friday lunchtime but we secured a table inside.
The all day menu is a ripper. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked like a piece of art, so ordered was a hard task.
My paleo toast w poached pear and mascarpone was perfect. Lightly toasted toast that was so tasty and then you cut up your poached pear and add a smothering of mascarpone and you are set!
The avocado with coddled eggs on toast also looked handy - care with the presentation was evident. I did see the black crepe and it looked unbelievable.
Coffee was pretty smooth and the service was swift.
This place is one everyone must give a chance!

I've been meaning to try this cafe for ages and finally got around to it last Sunday. What a treat! Being a beautiful weekend morning, there was a bit of a wait but no more than 10-15 minutes. Staff were very polite and thoughtful, even asking if I would prefer to sit at a table with 'proper' chairs rather than stools as I am heavily pregnant. The menu looked incredibly interesting, with a breakfast spread that I would be happy to call the most original I have seen in years - not just the standard big breakfast, smashed avo, scrambled eggs, bircher etc etc. I asked the waiter what to try out of the bircher, granola and yoghurt - he recommended the granola - and my husband had the 'North Shore'. Coffee was very good without being out of this world (let's call it an 8/10) but the dishes themselves took my breath away! Presentation was immaculate, flavour was incredibly original and the serving sizes were plenty without heading into dangerously huge territory. I felt the prices were extremely reasonable considering the techniques involved in the dishes - this was way beyond making toast and scrambling some eggs. Highly recommend!

Over the summer, I discovered a new cafe. In a way that only a cafe can, this establishment makes the best use of this unusual position at the end between two, almost three intersecting roads. Just a 5 minutes walk down Beatty Avenue from Toorak Station is a cafe that serves food like a piece of edible art. Mammoth Cafe is minimalistic and modern in its design, making strategic use of its little corner at the end of an awkwardly shaped block.

Visited a few weeks ago and had Mammoth's take on Eggs Benedict. My disappointment at discovering the Lobster Doughnut Burger had been rested from the menu (which was what I had originally came to try) was quickly turned into joy at this happy accident! The wholemeal crumpets added an extra dimension I hadn't anticipated, and the pickled onion really set the whole thing off. Very impressed! Service was personal and friendly, and the space was wonderful and light. Looking forward to returning again...who knows, perhaps one day I'll get to try that elusive burger! ;)

The good: Best scrambled (folded) eggs in Melbourne, The Katsu donut burger.
All their dishes are pretty amazing both visually and in flavour.
Coffee is great, staff are friendly and very personable. This place is a standout- all the other cafes, and by all means there are some really good ones all fall into
the same category, meaning its all been done before- but this place is a cut above the rest.

The bad: People on Zomato complaining that they had to wait 10 minutes for a table or whinging just for the sake of it.

“Mammoth is a mouthful. It has connotations of a big, large, stomping and unmovable force. It’s a mammal that would have been an admire to watch – from a safe distance – as it ruled the roost of its world. And, it’s the perfect description of the juggernaut café in Armadale – Mammoth. Opening its doors last September, the experienced team comprised of husband-and-wife Loren and Jamie McBride from Barry, Touchwood and Pillar of Salt have created another impeccable cafe.

Hot new brunch cafe. After a wait to get inside, we found the inside space clean, relaxing and relatively spacious between seats, even though it was bustling with diners and staff. If you're after traditional brunch food, this is not the place. The menu features very creative dishes - most combinations I would never find elsewhere. We settled on the char spanner crab egg crepe with lemon sorbet and the lobster donut burger. Both dishes had such bizarre combinations. Eating them was definitely interesting. While I'm not entirely sure the spanner crab and the crepe and the lemon sorbet all went together, individually they tasted great (strangely it was one of the best lemon sorbets I've ever tried). Lobster burger was also bizarre but strangely nice. Overall I think some of the creative food combinations could use a bit of fine-tuning, but eat with an open mind and you can find some really interesting food here.

Words have definitely gotten around, within the first few months of opening, it already attracted quite a few diners. The ambiance was Melbourne at its best, with white brick walls, a pastel colour palette, and plenty of wooden elements added to the mix. Situated on a corner block, it was actually quite a small cafe, but it didn't feel overly crowded, despite the amount of people.

It's a nice cafe to go on a beautiful Sunday morning. Attentive and friendly service. Food were well presented and creative. But the food dont taste as good as the presentation. I will not recommand the lobster donut because it's lack of flavor and very oily from the donut. Couldnt really finish it and to be honest, all I could taste was sugar and oil from donut and sour flavors from slaw. They are just not a good combination. On the other hand, the benedict was nice. I felt like eating orange cake with eggs and sausages. Special experience. Overall, it's different and would like to try other dishes on the menu.

I have been here numerous times now. For the first I had the golden gay time panna cotta and my friend had the north shore. I really enjoyed the experience that I have planned on coming back which I did. The second time around I had the cherry lamington puffed pancake and my friend had the rainbow salad. For the other time we had the granola and the benedict. Overall experienced was good. You might noticed though that it can be a tight squeezed going to your table as they tried to put more tables and chairs to accommodate more people so if you want to chat then this might not be a good cafe for that especially on peak hours but early mornings has been pretty good. Customer service has been good so far.

Came here for brunch on a weekday and really enjoyed the experience. We only had to wait about five minutes for a table. The staff were very friendly and conversational, and service was attentive. We were seated on a group table which already had two other people on it, but it still cosy enough without being too squashy.

I ordered the avocado and pumpkin seed hummus dish, which was delicious! The flavours worked really well with each other, and I quite enjoyed the coddled eggs; I hadn't seen that done at many other breakfast spots so it was a nice change for me. Dishes are on the slightly pricier end (for a uni student budget), but I would come here again as they have quite unique and interesting dishes.

The only downside was that a few of the dishes and sides were unavailable to order.

Given the hype surrounding Mammoth, we decided to profit from our Monday brunch meeting and head here (instead of the weekends, which are apparently 'crazy').  We didn't have to wait very long at all for a table and were quickly dosed up with caffeine.  The cold brew was pleasant and not too sweet in taste. The menu was quite creative indeed, with items like 'pumpkin seed hummus' (is that even still classified as hummus haha) and 'pumpkin leather' and 'native bush tomato dust'.  I had the smoked chicken salad - which was very filling but nothing too exciting.  My friend's benedict dish was very aesthetically appealing and well-presented.  Service started out very friendly and welcoming, but towards the end we felt as though we were being rushed out, though by that time there were plenty of empty seats and no people waiting!  Other than that, overall a good brunch experience - definitely one to cross off the list if anything.

Absolutely loved my visit to Mammoth! Nothing could be faulted - the food, atmosphere, service, everything was on point. Presentation is highly prioritised at this cafe - it shows in their clean, modern decor and their beautifully arranged dishes. My chia pudding was almost too pretty to eat!

The food was sensational. I was afraid the chia pudding was going to be very sweet, but to my pleasant surprise it wasn't the case at all. In fact the chia pudding itself was barely sweet at all, but paired with the intense flavours of the passionfruit jelly and lychee pieces it produced the perfect balance of flavours. I also had a delicious white chocolate and raspberry muffin. It was huge! It was perfectly baked, with a lovely crisp exterior while staying moist, soft and fluffy inside. Definitely one of the best (if not the best) muffins I have ever tasted.

My friend ordered the crab crepe. It was a bit of a strange dish, and I didn't sample it so I can't comment on the taste, but he finished it (except for the fried noodles) so I assume it was decent.

The dishes are a bit on the pricey side, but the food is well worth it. I am so excited to come back to sample everything else on their menu. I don't even live that close but this is definitely my new favourite cafe!

Another day to laze around, so we had brunch double date with H & J at Mammoth. A lot of cafes are not open on Sundays and over Christmas/New Year, it gets really hard to pick a place. Saw some interesting photos about their Lobster burger so decided to give it a try. But guess what? It was sold out by the time we arrived! They have pretty good coffee, beans from 5 Senses. Food is your average cafe food. The ones who have amazing presentation and average taste? Yeah that's what we got. I do have to say their eggs are cooked really well. My hamcock was too salty. H's bread was a tad dry. C didn't get the lobster burger he wanted, we might have to come back again for it I suppose? And why can't Zomato have a 0.75 score... :(

The boy ordered the lobster donut, mainly because it sounded bloody awesome: The doughnut had a brioche texure which was sweet and really helped offset the acidity coming through from the slaw. It was nice, but tiny. Though it was seriously delicious, it just wasn’t substantial enough and for a high price of $24.50, we questioned if it was really worth it. With so many sweet options on the menu, I definitely struggled to choose. I chose a ‘lighter’ version to save room for the Golden Gaytime so I got the coconut yoghurt custard. The yoghurt had a great coconut flavour, it was thick, not too sweet, not too sour. My only issue was that it needed more granola (I do like more crunch), but other than that it was a really nice, light and refreshing choice. Whilst the lobster donut didn’t seem right with its price tag, I thought the coconut yoghurt was worth every penny.

Once we had polished off brunch, we made the move to dessert:

A real pleasure. A class act. The menu was craftily put, with a good mix of the breakfast favourites (some with a twist) and sufficient varietal, well thought options for lunch. My schezuan ribs was delicious: tender, succulent, balanced well with the cucumber and pear salad. My partner had the gnocci and it was also well executed - fluffy, bounce-back bite and light, with a rich amazing sauce. We finished off with the pannacotta dessert which was also delish and plated beautifully. Fused with an on point front of house (good queue management and knowledgeable waitress) and up to the mark coffee, this Armadale joint is an envy of any suburb to have in their vicinity.

Nice little corner shop on Malvern road, had to wait to be seated for a bit on a Sunday morning. Luckily we got a table outside, as indoors was very noisy.

Interesting menu, the most appealing options for me were the coconut yoghurt with bunch of flowers and strawberries and other pretty things, and the hummus and avo with chili eggs on gluten free toast. The toast was delicious and thick, and the hummus was also nice. Generous amount of avo as well. The dish was not spicy at all, and was a bit lacking in flavor because of that. Even some pepper would've helped to accompany the salt on the table.

The yoghurt dish was more like a dessert, and the yoghurt was super thick, almost like not so cold ice cream. A bit different than expected, but still delicious.

Smoothie of the day was pineapple kale and banana with coconut flakes. A bit slimy consistency that could have been avoided with frozen bananas. Refreshing, though. All portions are played in a beautiful degustation way.

Talk about popular! Everywhere I turned, someone had a lobster burger sitting in front of them. And for good reason. The lobster was sweet and light, while the slaw and the sauces were perfect accompaniments. The only thing that spoiled this burger for me though was the donut bun. There was a lot of sugar on the already sweet bun, and each bite kind of confused my taste buds. I have nothing against mixing sweet and savoury but this burger just didn’t do it for me. The Melbourne brunch scene is getting pretty crowded. It seems like every time you speak to someone they are suggesting some amazing new place. It all has become so commonplace that you become a little desensitised to it. I feel like the moment someone jumps into a tirade about the coffee or the food at some little gem that they have discovered I turn on my inna skeptic. Its not that I don't appreciate the hot tip I mean I blog about this stuff so word on the street is important its just that often their idea of 'amazing' is eggs that aren't overcooked and something sweet for breakky (how rebellious). When I hear that a place is amazing now I kill my expectations and opt for a 'we'll see how it goes' approach.

Each weekend, eager foodies have been descending on this corner café to see what all the fuss is about and let me tell you, none of them are leaving disappointed.

Went on a Tuesday afternoon and oddly enough had put our name down and wait for a table (extremely popular maybe?). Ordered a savoury sweet combo, with some folded eggs and what I call the deconstructed lamington. Def hit the spot though wasn't as impressive as Barry or Touchwood. Still, worth a try!

The location, layout and decor is great; the service is faultless and the salted caramel doughnut is to die for! The coffee also hits the mark... but thats about where the greatness stops. The menu is way too inventive and almost seemed a bit "try hard". The flavours of each component on each plate ordered were really something... put them together and hmmm. Don't get me wrong, the food was really nice and quality was great... but 'nice' just doesn't cut it when the menu makes each dish sound like it should be exceptional. Kelly

Prettiest brunch place! Staff were welcoming and very attentive, they recommended us some of their favourites. The menu had really unique dishes like the lobster donut burger, it was really different and fresh. The golden gay time panna cotta was awesomely delicious, nice and smooth with different textured elements.

There’s a lot of brunch cafes in Melbourne at the moment delivering a lot of style over substance. Would you like to have some dehydrated strawberries on your bircher this morning? Or perhaps some cured wallaby with your scrambled eggs? Don’t get me wrong, I do love an inventive brunch like the best of us, but not if it gets in the way of flavour. It seems that the Melbourne brunch scene is getting a bit fussy for it’s own good. I guess a big fry up isn’t considered pretty or “Instagram worthy” these days, so chefs are being pushed to the brink to make their food look pretty.

Don't be put off by the long wait. Although it can take up to an hour to be seated at Mammoth during busy periods, it's worth it. Put your name on the wait list and while away the time by grabbing a takeaway coffee and watching the world go by while you spy the parade of pretty dishes in anticipation of your turn to be seated.
The first thing that strikes you is the en-trend bright and airy dining space. Next you'll notice the army of friendly, efficient, well groomed hipster-esque waitstaff. There's a lot of beard maintenance going on here.
An eclectic menu showcases classic and modern ingredients, unusual cooking methods (coddled eggs anyone?) and smart food pairings that make choosing your dish a deliciously challenging task indeed.
My personal favourite is The Benedict - duck sausage,
orange and corn blini, pickled onion, fried egg, smoked maple hollandaise. Both surprising; in its marriage of flavours, and comforting in consumption. The duck sausage coupled with a silky maple hollandaise is the stuff of foodie dreams.
Plating is nothing short of photogenic. If I had to be picky, the balance of flavours can occasionally be a little off point, but with feedback and time this minor shortfall might be rectified.
Coffee is great. Service is excellent. During busy periods it could pay for staff to make more effort to service the corners of the dining space, whose patrons seemingly wait longer and occasionally have to wave a menu around to get attention. Again, a minor shortfall.
Perhaps this isn't food for everyone. Pickier pallets may find the menu challenging but there are some standard fallbacks to suit.
Highly recommended for at least one visit, although I'm sure you'll be back for more.

Gorgeous little cafe, went for lunch mid week. Only con being we had to go inside to get a waitress to take our order as we got a bit forgotten outside. I had the ribs with the cucumber and nachi salad which was amazing!!! The salad worked so well with the lightly spiced ribs. My friend got the lobster doughnut and enjoyed but found a bit sweet towards the end. Will be back. Well priced and beautiful presentation :)

Attention brunchers. There’s a new kid in town and it’s a powerhouse. With the success of Touchwood in Richmond and Barry in Northcote, Jamie and Loren McBride, husband and wife team, are bringing their next venture to Armadale. Whenever big brunch names are behind the launch of a new cafe, inevitably expectations are high. Comparable to how Meryl Streep’s kid would feel entering the big screen. The public asks ‘will the kid be as good as the parent’?’. In this instance, it's a resounding yes. In fact, the quirkiness and inventiveness of the menu – courtesy of Emma Jeffrey (ex-Hammer & Tong), makes Mammoth

The half an hour wait for a table was worth it as we were served straightaway once we were seated. Staff were really friendly and recommended dishes we should try. I ordered the green chilli chicken and it was packed with flavour and texture! Very popular cafe and it's at a prime location.

Had brunch at Mammoth on Saturday and it was absolutely packed. Despite having to wait 45 minutes for a table which isnt ideal the staff were very apologetic and constantly updated us on the expected wait time.  The venue itself is gorgeous and airy even though its quite small.  In terms of the food I was really impressed. The menu is certainly unique but no disconcertingly so. I ordered the Northshore dish which came with ham hock hash, poached eggs, grilled pineapple and a jalapeno popper. Everything was perfectly seasoned and all of the elements complimented each other incredibly well. Great addition to the Armadale cafe scene.

Good little cafe. I have been a couple times and both times enjoyed what I had. I had folded eggs and it was nice, good size serving and good perfectly. Coffee is five senses which is nice when its done perfect, first in house coffee was nice then I got my take away and wasn't as great. Will go back as I live about a minute away and its better then any of the other cafes on that strip.

We found a crowd standing outside at about 10:00 am on a Saturday. We found a larger crowd milling and having a great time inside. The dishes they were tackling looked unusual and interesting - so we joined the queue. We did not regret this. The food was innovative and great; the coffee was very good; the staff were smart and friendly.
We will be back for more!

Gorgeous new cafe, very quick service and beautiful food. Really new and exciting takes on the classics like eggs Benedict, and a beautiful selection of drinks to accompany. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, a little pricey but worth it for special occasions like friends going away brunches!

Really awesome and inventive menu, super cute space too but the communal tables can get a bit cramped. The coffee is good and the food is presented so beautifully. Recommend ordering the dutch baby! North shore was good but may not be to everyone's taste.

I decided to have the ‘Grilled lychee and passionfruit chia pudding, macadamia, hemp seed crumble, blood orange ($14.00)’ which coincidentally is a gluten free and vegan option from the menu. I thought this may be a bit small for my mammoth appetite but the dish turned out to be a lot bigger than I expected. I loved how this dish was not overly sweet, it was indeed quite bitter in parts.

Melbourne's newest cafe really steps it up a notch with a creative and delicious menu. I arrived at 8:45am and it was pretty packed already.I was impressed, given that it's only been open for a few days, that the service and food was fast, efficient and friendly. I'd normally expect more of a wait and teething issues but they looked like they had it all down pat already. The coffee was good (nothing wrong with it, but nothing to rave about) but it's all about the menu. Looking through the menu, several people next to me were giving me recommendations and they were raving about what they had (the Benedict with duck sausage or the Rainbow Salad) but I settled on the spanner-crab crepe (blackened with squid ink) and a lemon sorbet. A very different and asian inspired brunch item, but completely delicious. I'll definitely be back to try the Lobster Donut Burger (never thought I'd see those three words together) and will also try the Golden Gaytime Panna Cotta. A word of warning though, it's not the biggest space (acoustically, it works well) so I'd recommend going early to make sure you can get a table exp on the weekend.

Merely 3 days old, Mammoth is already finding it's stride. We popped in for brunch today close to noon. It was pretty busy for a weekday. Staff were attentive and warm, coffee was spot on, and the food was meticulously presented and delicious. I love the creative menu. I had The Benedict - duck sausage, orange and corn blini (this was perfect!), pickled onion, fried egg, smoked maple hollandaise. The sausage and blini probably overpowered the subtle - flavoured hollandaise, but overall I really enjoyed this balanced meal. The Hubby had the avo on rye dish - I was pretty impressed with the pumpkin seed hummus. Great stuff. We'll be back to explore the menu further. Keep it up guys!
Ps: So new, the cutlery shines perfectly! ;p

I was so excited to finally come to this place. Opened just yesterday and all I can say is hallelujah! This funky little establishment has a great overall vibe and a lot of natural light. I came here with the lady for a morning bite and I must say from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left everything was right. From the warm greetings of the baristas who brew your perfect cup right next to the door to the attentive wait staff who took our order. This is a cafè done right. We chose to order the lavender bagel with honey and buffalo ricotta, chia pudding and the avocado eggs with chia bread. The presentation was superb and everything was delicious. Whether you're going in for a quick bite with some friends or are after that mid day pick me up, mammoth cater for it all. Highly recommend this little gem in the rough of Melbourne cafes. :)

I come here for breakfast (and sometimes lunch) every time I go to work. I've been coming here for years now but with the change in menu, I thought I'd leave a review. I love the atmosphere - it's somewhere I can unwind even when the cafe is busy because the decor and interior design is relaxing and chic, the music is great (the other day they were playing 80's classics which was amazing), and the staff are always so chill and friendly. The food is great, the drinks are nice, and the staff are accommodating and friendly. Overall definitely recommend this place.
