Review Cafe Amalia - Armadale

Ordered a large soy cap.... I could feel that the cup was burning hot so I waited 5 minutes before even trying it. Took my first sip and scalded my tongue and it had the lovely taste of burnt coffee. Disgusting and way way too hot! Walk down the road to Mammoth if you want a half decent coffee.

Really enjoyed my breakfast experience here today. I ordered the Ham & Brie Omelette and it was absolutely delicious. Great coffee and attentive friendly staff. Nice atmosphere, this was my first visit and will definitely be returning

I live in the area and this cafe is convenient and does a great breakfast and an even better coffee. Unfortunately everytime I go the customer service gets worse and worse and it's generally from one older blonde male making the coffee. He never greats you, never looks you in the eye when serving or speaking to you, theres the impression of being a burden when getting a coffee. I have even been waiting for them to open (7.30am) and instead of opening the door and greating your customer he chose to just unlock the door and walk away... I have just had another unfriendly experience with him after choosing to avoid the cafe for months, it will be the last time i go here...shame!

Amelia's is an absolute find! The food is delicious, the coffee best I have had in a long time and because I have an extreme allergy to garlic, the Chef is always able to accommodate me with no problems. The staff too, go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and attention to their patrons is always important. This little cafe is a treasure!!! Glenda McGee Malvern Victoria

We have been to this Cafè before and we had a reasonable good experience so we decided to go there again for a morning coffee, we were a little bit early (5min as the Cafè open at 7am) I asked the barista if is okay to come in , he said yes. As we were going to make our order the chef maybe owner said to us “you better not be blowing the fu***ing leaves on my car and Cafè because that’s the only thing I care about “ so we were like “excuse me?” Then she realised that we weren’t who she taught we were and said nothing and walked away, then the barista took the order. While waiting one of the workers told us to move to the front as “ I trying to open up the Cafè “ we said “ okay” we felt they were so rude and not polite and not professional. We will not be back!

Loved the coffee. This is what its meant to be .. right strength and warmth and just flawless. Perfect Kickstart to the day . Ready for the challenge ahead. Love it when you can savour it till the last drop and not think about anything else . The customer service was also impeccable and very warm.

exceptional service, the barista sure knows how to make a coffee! I went here for brunch and couldn't have asked for a better experience... I had the Duhka scrambled eggs, a must try if you are coming here for the first time!

Good coffee to takeaway and never have to wait very long. Lovely little street (Beatty Ave) for a few coffee places to choose from, I will keep trying them out to compare.

Coffee was good!! Avocado on toast and great company! Prefect start to a morning if you need a quick bite before work, especially with the train station so close.

Cafe Amalia is a quaint little place. We have tried all the cafes along Rose Street, Beatty Avenue down to Mammoth Cafe. Based purely on the coffee, Cafe Amalia does the best job. There seems to be more of a focus on coffee at Amalia than the other cafes. It really is a quaint little place. We were there on a cold Melbourne morning. Being in the front room, the draft coming in the front door was most uncomfortable and the door does not close automatically. Around 33% of patrons were born in a tent and left the door open as they came in or out. Also, deliveries are made through the front door and both doors are left wide open while the delivery is made. The narrowness of Cafe Amalia lends to its quaintness. However, being popular and with deliveries, the narrowness can make those seated in the front room feel like they are in Burke Street at peak hour. Having said all that, the cafes in this precinct are a few rungs below the best in Richmond and Las Chicas in Balaclava. If I was local I would hop in for a coffee at Cafe Amalia. Not being local and if focused on a brunch/lunch experience, I would travel to Las Chicas, Pillar of Salt & Top Paddock
.

Amalia is a café located in the Beatty Avenue shopping strip in Armadale, next to Toorak Train Station. 5-10 years ago, the shopping strip was almost bare, but now has a number of weekend brunch destinations. Within the last 12 months the café has changed hands, and I had been hoping to sit down and try it for some time.

Amalia is recently under new management and I recommend you visit ASAP! Such a lovely cafe with friendly staff that make you feel at home. It is a great place to make your regular coffee stop - with the staff quickly knowing you at a personal level. Ps The mushroom hollandaise is superb!

Never go again. Bad food and bad service! There are plenty of restaurants better than this one.

A great find in Armadale. Today, my friend and I enjoyed the sunshine in Rose St at Cafe Amalia
1st time, it was not referred to me from a friend, found it on Urbanspoon and coerced my friend to try it
The owner was so hospitable, the hot chocolate was nice, my friend said his cappuccino was really good
And both of us found the food refreshing, delicious
with the next door alarm going off to the frustration of the owner, he kindly said we can go inside to reduce the noise of the alarm
what a great find.. will certainly return for a dinner or breakfast or another lunch
I urge all to really try this beautiful cafe in Rose St Armadale

Simple but quite sophisticated menu, different to nearby cafés with originality and flair, good little wine list, great atmosphere, great coffee, great service.

Best Portugese Dinner. Beautiful place, fantastic food and best Portugese donuts in Melbourne

Loved it!`. As a local I have honestly never been in as I usually go around the corner to the other cafes but my family came here on Saturday and wow is all I can say.

The owner was honestly fantastic and just because of him we will be back. The serves were huge, in fact they were so large none of us could finish which meant if you have a huge appetite this is definitely your place.

We had two amazing corned beef toasted sandwiched which were so delicious/ The beef steak baguette was a very generous serve and came with chips and the soup of the day was a beef minestrone that again was a large serve with a tasty bacon crouton.

The coffees were terrific as were the tea's. We cant wait to come back next weekend.

HIDDEN GEM. Totally serendipitous that I stumbled across this place! I got off at Toorak station to find there was no room at my usual cafe Rouge. So I strolled around the corner for what turned out to be the most delicious breakfast and just perfect coffee and a pastry (went all out)...I was so impressed that I came back the other day for a lunch date with a friend which was again, delectable. By this time I was intrigued enough to come back for one of their Tuesday night dinners (at the moment they're following the Tour de France with a different regional dish each week) and it was out of this world. The cassoulet was just like in France. It is truly a hidden gem, and I hope for one hope this secret doesn't get out too soon!!

Delectable coffee, food and place to be. The coffee is delicious and the food really tasty. You are at once made to feel at home and welcome in this cosy cafe. I was wowed the first time I went there and even though it is not close by I keep making excuses to go back. I have almost eaten there for every meal there and the stand out recommendations are the breakfast omelette (quite possibly the best omelette I have ever eaten), the traditional porridge with poached fruit and yummy homemade yoghurt and you also can't go passed whatever cake/dessert was cooked that day. It's right next to toorak station so next time you're passing by get off the train! It is so worth it!

Great service, great food, kid friendly. I went to Amalia for the first time today for brunch. I absolutely loved it. Friendly helpful staff, they grabbed me a highchair straight away. The smashed avo with durka, feta, poached eggs were great! Looking forward to taking my husband back and trying the Mexican breakfast.

Love, love, love!. We went to cafe Amalia for the first time for breakfast last Saturday. Enjoyed it so much that we came back the next day but disappointingly it was closed :( We had the autumn porridge (creamy with just the right amount of sweetness), crab congee (soooo good) and the Mexican eggs (tad overcooked but wouldn’t stop us from trying again). They had a nice covered outdoor area so we could sit with our puppy as well. Can’t wait to come back and try the dinners!

Christian and Angela at Cafe Amalia are genuine & friendly and complement the cosy atmosphere and sumptuous pastries and coffees they serve. I couldn't start my day without stopping at Cafe Amalia and receiving my cheerful good morning from Christian.

..... RUDE RUDE RUDE !!!!!!! ...... If you like your coffee served with a delightful French accent and a NOT so delightful arrogant , snide and rude comment by the owner ...... then THIS is the place for you !!!!!!
The only nice thing I have to say about my experience here is that the young Aussie barista was well bred enough and shocked enough by her bosses rudeness that she actually apologised for his snide comments ........ I will NOT go back there ..........

I have known the owner for over 28 years .. Christine you have emerged as a ripened Clementine, your petit and joylie bistro is a must for a perfect none tourist experience , catch a privy glimps how a classic melbournian eats . The fare of fresh and stunning herb flavours classic from France are mouth watering
Even the coffee is smooth and creamy
Deserts are naughty but nice
Finally ... The truffled delicate scrambled eggs are sweet to the tounge
Bon Apertite
Samm

Insulting experience. I ordered a baguette to share with my mother for lunch - my father had just passed away and I took her out to cheer her up. The waiter came to our table chewing gum with his mouth open and asked if we wanted drinks, I asked for some water. He loudly announced "one water to share" laughing and sniggering with the other waiter. When he returned to the table I asked him if he thought it was funny to ridicule patrons and he replied " yes, I thought I was very funny" - I left the cafe immediately, disgusted!

Nice coffee

Have never been treated so disgustingly in my life by the owner of the shop. Rude, arrogant and an embarrassment to his business. Rose street gallery was much better than cafe Amelia. The people who worked there were always so nice and now it's the complete opposite.

A good steak sandwich with no chips, sauce, cheese? No way.
YES WAY!
This place is fantastic, three thumbs up!

TRES BEIN Lunch on a weekda.... TRES BEIN
Lunch on a weekday, and Amalia is thumping. Very busy because - fabulous fresh food. My salad was a bounty of colourful goodness, my companion devoured the pie with relish. The waitresses need to get the skates on but the French duo who run the joint make up for them.

Beautiful & simple; yet great quality & friendly service.

Fresh, meticulous quality food for less. Good value. Good service. We had light lunch of salmon (24$) and nisouaz salad (17), both from fresh non compromising ingredients. We will return to try the breakfast menu for sure. Unfortunately, they did not have deserts on the day and we had to go for a coffee to "chez bob" nearby.
Learn from our mistake. don't go to "chez bob". They are very average and expensive.
Just to make sure it is clear - we loved cafe Amalia.

Took the work crew here and sat in the back dining room, everyone was so impressed by everything about this place food, service and atmosphere. We will all be back!

Classy local. We've been here several times, for brunch, lunch and a few cosy drinks on a Friday. Really great service and a lovely bright, well designed cafe with several spaces. Interesting and tasty menu, great coffee and an excellent wine list.

Fab coffee and wonderful service in a beautiful leafy street away from the hustle and bustle of busy High street.

Had the chicken and leek pie, chai latte and banana and chocolate tart. All so good! And the lovely French men who work there, so nice! Great setting with 3 separate eating rooms a long table down back with a fireplace. Love. Shall be back!
