Review Sun Hing - Armadale

D Minchin
Great food lemon chicken exceptional, beef shallots & ginger my husband commented how delicious the squid was. A small venue which is well patronised. Service was excellent.
Harry Carter
Terrible restaurant. Food ok but service is lousy. They seat you take your order then 45 minutes later tell you up to a 90 minute wait. The main hostess is a sour faced and rude old bat. DONT EAT HERE
Steve Borley
Were seated quickly but then it came to a grinding halt .. 40 minutes and watched others get their order taken .. guess takeaways are more profitable for them ..
Yvonne Sopp
Great lunch as usual. A favourite restaurant of ours. Lovely staff, great service.
Olivier Pecheur
Really nice food, with some very spicy dishes. We ordered take away during a busy period and they were ready within reasonable time. The restaurant decoration is really simple to my opinion so the food stands out more than the decor.

Definitely over rated. But price is responsible and big dishes Just taste not very good Pretty salty every dishes But Fried rice taste nothing. Is very OZ taste Chinese restaurant You know what I mean now😂
Nicole Christensen
Excellent Chinese restaurant with exceptional service and attention to detail! Staff are extremely friendly! We will be back!

Ordered food at 6.45 told it would be 50mins arrived at restaurant 50mins later told it would be another 20mins then 30mins later confronted after giving our name several times that they don't have our order. What a joke has been our family restaurant since before our children were born 1 of our daughters even worked there for a short time. Dissapointing is an absolute understatement.

Best value for money ever- have been coming here since I was a little girl and food is always terrific . Sun hing roll is amazing and I love their special fried rice and chicken chow mein

I live in the area and so do my sisters family and my parents. We all love to come to this place and have done for years. There's a great range of food, its a typical suburban looking Chinese Restaurant except the food is always delicious, the prices very reasonable, the service is always friendly and I see Asian people eating there and that's usually a good sign!!! As an added bonus there is no overpriced wine list, its BYO and the bottle shop is next door.
DforDee
Most of the menu is catered towards Aussie (not Asian) tastebuds. It tasted better than expected as I didn’t have high expectations for this place after I saw “fish and chips” on a chinese restaurant menu. Both the soups were ok (chicken corn and shark fin crab soup), flaming chicken wasn’t anything like other restaurants: it tasted ok, a bit vinegary and peppery, I really liked the beef with ginger spring onions and the tofu combination dishes.

Below average food, orders are not what you ask for, dont bother ringing in because once there you will wait twice as long as walking in to order, the girl at front desk, will forget your order is under her nose, you wait longer, food is cold by the time you get it, I am a long time customer of some 20 yrs, this last month each time I go there the same girl delays my order. MESSAGE TO ALL CUSTOMERS AND POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS " BYPASS" this business, FIND another Chinese Restaurant there are plenty of others in the area.

Who would of known that a little, outdated and ghetto looking Chinese shop would be so successful for such a long time. <br/><br/>Their prices are reasonable and their food is amazing.<br/><br/>Only thing I would change is maybe update the decor but clearly the decor doesn't matter with food as good as theirs at that price! <br/><br/>Wish this place endless success :)
Kelly
So yummy!!! I had never eaten here before but my husband swore it was the best Chinese and he was right!!! not only is the food delicious and well priced but they can also make nearly everything gluten free if you ask!!! This is my new fav local restaurant Thankyou for you're beautiful food and amazing service my family and friends will be returning :)
Fiona Dover
Best Chinese south of the river. Never let me down. Quick delivery/takeaway and always fresh.<br/>Best part is it's BYO and right next to the bottle shop!
Christine King
Best in the area been going here for ten years now. Visitors from uk said best they have ever eaten.<br/>My Friday night special I always look forward to Fridays.
Lola
Have been going here for years, sadly this place is and has been for the last few years going downhill. It was once really great but now is quite bland in taste and small in quantity and quality. I no longer love this place :(
Rae Brown
Been going here over 20 years. Yes they get busy and orders can be a bit slow and in busy holidays like Fathers Day and Mothers Day you can have a long wait in the restaurant for your meal and in the takeaway. I have family all over Perth and whenever we say let's get together for a meal they always suggest we go to the Sun Hing. In over 20 years I think I have 3 below par meals here-not bad considering we probably eat it at least every 2 months. Lunch is awesome as well and well priced. Overall probably the best consistent Chinese I have ever eaten and yes I have tried many others. For quality and price it's a 'CANT BEAT'. That's probably why it's hard to get a reservation on the weekends if you don't ring ahead early.

Seen how many people were going in and coming out so I thought it would be good. The fried Rice was tasteless and the chilli pork spare ribs were dry and over cooked. The Cartledge in the meat was also a turn off. Bloody disgusting food. My Dog eats better than this crap. <br/>I feel a little sick now.
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
Very authentic! Ordered multiple dishes for a family dinner last night and we were very impressed! The spring rolls were sooooooo good. All the ingredients were fresh and beautifully cooked and they were huge. Stand out dishes included the Honey Chicken - not too much coating was used and the chicken was so soft. Loved the sauce too! Beef and black bean was divine - the perfect balance of meat and veg. Loved the Chow Mien too - yum! Will def visit again!

The manager/owner really needs to pull their finger out and stop being such a stinge and put some money into this place. The chairs look about 35 years old, the carpets been there since the day the place opened, and some staff literally look like they are half intoxicated. And I swear the chicken is off.
Sharon Gibson
We have been going here for ever it has the Best Honey Chicken I have ever had i also love the  hokkien noodles, sweet and sour chicken. :) <br/>Great please for Family dinners and chat up with old friends.
Tashpotato Shaw
LOVE the food here, me and my partner order every now and then for pickup and have never had a bad meal. Prices OK and friendly staff. <br/>Sometimes they've been so busy the wait is an hour but they have always advised us of this before ordering.<br/>Particular favorites and the hokkien noodles, sweet and sour chicken, black bean sauce and the spring rolls. <br/><br/>Enjoy :)

Been going to Sun Hing for years. Never disappoints. The place is always busy which must say something about this place. The only negative is that the decor has been the same for many years and could really do with a make over.
Harrison Martin
Tasteless, low quality food. After ready the reviews I was happy to go here. What a waste of money. The food was tasteless, the lemon chicken and sweet and sour pork when in takeaway form are swimming in sauce instead of the sauce coming in another container so it was disgustingly soggy when we got home. The prawns did not taste fresh. The chicken itself tasted strange. It definately wasnt proper chicken. The vegetables in the fried rice were not cooked all the way through like they had rushed it.<br/><br/>Overall if you have no tastebuds you might enjoy this.
Reodog127
Dont eat the chicken. I have been to a lot of Chinese restaurants and this is the worst.<br/>Prawn cocktails made from thawed out supermarket cheap soggy prawns. yuck<br/>Ordered 3 chicken dishes and the flesh was like mooshed fat.The honey chicken was all batter.Reconstituted chicken?Vomit<br/>For the first time we did not ask to take left over food with us.<br/>There is no love in the food at all.Never again, waste of money.
Lenordo
Never going back. 3 waitresses standing around talking. Meal was rushed and we were rushed out on a special evening out. Meal average
Grimace13
Below Average, battered duck? frozen veges, green tea from something green possibly not tea, last dish arrived when we were leaving, save yourself the hassle and drive to vic park, way better than here.If you want bogan chinese go for it.

Awesome!. I never get Sun Hing, as they don't deliver and I am very lazy. However tonight I was slightly less lazy than usual and decided to try them out. Oh my glob its delicious. I got home and it was piping hot, tasty, a large generous portion. <br/><br/>If only they delivered I would order all the time! Their satay beef is spectacular. Its like there is a party in my mouth and everyone's invited.

The Sun Hing Restaurant, Armadale WA. The Sun Hing is the best restaurant that I have (literally) been to anywhere in the world. My favourite dish is chilli Squid.
Awspowart
Best little chinese in perth. Realy tasty food been a family favorite for 30 years people come back that have moved away it's so good only deficiency is the decor it hasn't changed much in 30+ years.
Normangoddard26
Norm. Best Chinese food ever me and my wife love the food it is so consistent the change of staff is only a temp;<br/>Thing they are are improving every day.I have nothing bad to say,and the price is still the best ever.

FROM SUN HING. Thank you dear customers for all your feedback, we much appreciate knowing the thoughts on our food and service.<br/><br/>We have a lot of people currently training and their interpersonal skills are improving,<br/>We don't have many customers complain at the counter so if you do ever have a issue with a staff member please feel free to let either a manager or the boss know so that the problem can be fixed.<br/><br/>Food, as you know we make all the food fresh so we make what you order suit your ellergy or needs such as celiac although some foods don't come gluten free which the staff would advise you of at the front counter if you mention you can't have gluten.<br/>If their is any problem with your meal we wi be happy to take it back to the kitchen and do what ever it takes to suit your needs.<br/><br/>Lunch time has a specific time we need to shut (2pm) which our times are written on the front door and we advise all customers after 1pm that we close at 2,<br/>We need to have the Resturant all cleaned, bills paid, tables set up for dinner and gone by 2, hense why we remind customers towards the end of the shift that we need to clear plates and have the bills paid, also why we don't like accepting tables 20-15 minutes before we close as it takes about 10minutes to cook the meals,<br/><br/>We apologise to all customers who have had a bad experience and encourage people to let us staff know when there is a issue,<br/>We hope you all feel very welcome and enjoy your food at Sun Hing Chinese restuarant.

Terrible food

No longer what they were.. Once upon a time this was the place to eat in Armadale however it is no longer the case. Was our regular for dine in and takeaway, from the friendly Scottish lady at the front counter to the pretty waitresses in the restaurant and the food couldn't rave about it enough. Now the food is second rate, the service rushed and far less friendly. We decided to give it a go again last night after a break of almost 12 months and it was terrible. The fried rice now tasteless, the chow mein gluggy and the most expensive dish of all my king prawn omelet 1st bite and I get egg shell.<br/>Won't bother again and know a lot of people who feel the same, once the place to go but no longer the case.
Rachaelhtw
Disappointing. The Sun Hing used to be one of our favourite Chinese Restaurants. Admittedly we haven't gone for some time, but the last meal we had as takeaway was awful. Simple things like Prawn Crackers were horrible. The wontons were wanting.. And the rest of the dishes were average at best. Used to be an affordable tasty meal, now overpriced and very average/bland. Will not be going there or buying takeaway from there again.

Customer. Would just like to say food was amazing. However they push you out of the restaurant by 2pm with payment required before then. We arrived at 1.15 ordered our meals within 10 minutes as the waitress kept coming to the table on numerous occasions to take our order.<br/><br/>We received our soup and 5 minutes later were told that our mains were coming out as they closed by 2. Very disapointing and totally rude.<br/><br/>Be ware that you must arrive at 12 to enjoy your meal and not be pushed out. Oh another thing waitresses were searching for their keys in their bags at 1.45
Rubycastle85
Yum yum. So sad to have read the previous reviews because tonight's meal was fresh, full of a variety of vegies and sooooo good. Best chinese around town!
Jay
Lemon Chicken for dinner - next morning green apple splatters. Had the lemon chicken, it was pretty average. <br/>Went to bed that night as per norm and woke up the next morning running to the toilet... (MY INNARDS BASTED THE BOWL BETTER THEN THEY BASTED THE CHICKED!) <br/>ZOMG just found the add photo button...

Takeaway not as expected. Not as good as it used to be for takeaway at least. Had sweet and sour pork for lunch. Nice sauce and steamed rice but pork tasted overcooked and two pieces burnt whilst rest were tired looking and tasted dry. Did not like the taste of over cooked fat throughout. presentation was non existent - Sauce was at bottom of container and it looked like the whole order had been thrown in haphazardly and hurriedly. Will try again as used to be excellent but def not worth it this time. Disappointed.
Creampuff_oscar
Take away review. First time getting take away from this restaurant, very good, sauce was very nice, fried rice was just the way i like it, the meat was a little fatty but very tasty. Best chinese ive had the area so far
Joe
Great price and good quality food with great service also not full of msg very pleased and will go back

For anyone needing to be gluten aware. Be careful the chicken has changed, it now seems to have this light batter, which isn't very nice. I think it's may be the same as the below;<br/><br/>Beware of "chicken."<br/>Some lower-end Chinese restaurants claim to use chicken but really use a combination of chicken and texturized vegetable protein that isn’t necessarily gluten-free.<br/><br/>Such a shame, Sun Hing was an old time favourite!

Mrs. Went to Sun Hing tonight for takeaway, as usual the food is great, and the price is unbeatable. Have been going there for many years, and have never been disappointed.

Have been dining here for 18years. I choose it as my birthday meal every year! An Armadale institution!
Mrs Robinson
I have been going to Sun Hing for over 25 years and if I don't get to eat it at least every few weeks I start craving it! When I lived overseas I dreamt about it! It's delicious, top quality food and ridiculously cheap prices. Their spicy chilli prawns and Peking fillet steak are to die for. I hope they stick around for a long time to come.

We have been going to Sun hing for approx 15 years mostly we get take away but just recently have moved away from the area all the way to Rockingham but we will still be getting our Sun Hing fix I even have their magnet on the inside of my car door so I can ring them when I leave work to collect our usual order between $65 and $80 depending on what we order Sun hing is the best we Love it<br/><br/><br/>Happy Customer

I've come to Sun Hing for over 20 years and it's always been excellent but unfortunately tonight it was terrible! Fried rice had frozen packet vegies in it, tasted very bland. Prawn crackers were stale, meat in the satay was fatty and poor quality. I wondered if they have changed owners because it DID NOT taste like our old favourite restaurants food.
Karen Ingram
Great food Poor service. My husband and I and our friends have been dining at Sun Hing for about 15 years now. Though it is about a 40 minute round trip from home, we still make the time to go there for the great food, good portions at very reasonable prices. The no corkage is also a bonus. The last few times we have been though the food is still excellent, the service has deteriorated badly. First time it happened we thought...just got them on a bad night. When the next two visits were the same, well we have now started trying other chinese restaurants more local to us. It is highly insulting to lead patrons to their tables, then ignore them for up to 30 minutes before taking their orders, especially on one occasion another table was seated after us, order taken and their food presented before we our order was even asked for. This poor customer service can be put down to not enough staff and it being a busy restaurant, but I found it to be rude. We haven't been back recently and I am not in a hurry to return, which is a pity when it was such a favourite dining spot for so many years.

What can I say about a resturant that has been there for over 20 years. We went in for dinner on the Tuesday night and had both and excellent meal and excellent service, the young blonde girl who looked to be in charge never stopped to stand still or even take a break( I hope she reads this and sees what an amazing job she does). Our food was up to its usual top standard. <br/>On the Thursday we went back to the same resturant to take our friends from Sydney for a local treat, when we arrived we waited 5 minutes to be taken to our table and another 25 to order. Upon paying for the bill we then wait ten minutes for the girl at the front of house to get to the desk and find our bill. <br/><br/>All in all the Tuesday night we went it was brilliant, the whole night looked like it went smoothly. <br/>As for the Thursday, you need the blonde girl who never stops, she was so calm and organized about everything.

The food and service is fast,<br/>the staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is the best Chinese I've tasted i recommend it to everyone.<br/>They serve certain meals on hot plates which come out sizzling and steaming,<br/>the special fried rice is the best rice I've tasted.<br/>They do a huge variety of food and it is delicious everytime,i have been going there years and never been disappointed no matter how busy it is.

Average Chinese food. Service was great in a packed restaurant.
Warren
Good service, good food. Hard to wrong with $14 per head grub.
Colin Mepham
This is very good value for money restaurant byo no corkage and some of the best food great staff and service five star
Andy
Coeliacs be warned. I love Sun Hing and recommend it to everyone- except those with a gluten allergy. Twice I have ordered gluten free options and both times I reacted. So disappointing as it is otherwise a great feed.
Good Food Lover
Consistency. I've been getting meals from Sun Hing over the last 6 years now and I have to say that their food has remained consistently good and very reasonably priced. Not much ambience in the restaurant and I would suggest take away meals. Service is quick and definitely value for money.
MissLayLay
My family has been going to the Sun Hing for 32+ years. We've been countless times and have NEVER had a bad meal. The food is cheap, fresh and always consistent. The chicken and sweet corn soup and pieking chicken is the BEST!
Westie85
Love this place. Great food, and cheap - would recommened to everyone for both take away AND dine in.<br/>It may not be the prettiest place, BUT it's nice and clean - and the food is great =)
Relle
Myself and family have been going there for years now. We have never once been disappointed. Decor is outdated but food is great and not too pricey. Only thing I dont like is the parking or lack of I should say.
Luke Hoey
Had take away. Overall you get what you pay for; cheap Chinese food. The Mongolian Lamb was disappointing. It lacked flavour. However the sweet and sour pork and the honey chicken were good. I'd also recommend the fried rice over steamed rice. An okay take away experience. Would like to see how dine in differs and whether there is more flavour to the food when it's prepared on a plate as opposed to a plastic container. I give it a 6/10.
Barney
Flashbacks. A great place to dine to relive the Chinese restaurants from decades ago. I love the decor, the food and the price. If I wanted something fancy then I would be off to the city, if I want a good old fashioned Chinese feed then it will be the Sun Hing with a couple of king brown Swan long necks from the bottle shop next door.
Kira Pengelly
This place needs a complete revamp - everything is cheap and nasty from the food to the interior .... I get that it cheap Chinese this is why I stay clear . If your really hungry and on a complete budget go for it . Not for the experienced diner !!
Blue Danube
Basic and Cheap. We often drop in at a lunchtime for a quick meal as the prices are very cheap. The food quality is at the lower end and one dish can taste pretty much like another dish. They tend to use this gravy with just a few changes depending on what you order.<br/><br/>The price makes this a very popular place at any time.<br/><br/>They use a lot of MSG in their cooking and ordering anything without it is nearly impossible.
Brian
After going to sun hing over the last 20 years the service we recieved last night was disgusting, the food was good but the service was very bad, after asking for large table our familys were put on separate tables.the food came out very slow & we had to ask for table to be served when asked why the bill was more than it should of been for the amount of people that was there the responce was you had been given enough food to feed the people that didnt come if they charge per head shouldnt it be for how many people are actually there even though we were charged for 2 children under 3years at adult price. we were not made very welcome with service like it was will not be going back there again
Hardrockcafe
Friendly service. Food can be slow if it's busy. The noodles and rice noodles were yummy!
Charlie
Great cheap eating. This is the place we get together with the girls on a fridays, the staff are always lovely and its always busy so you dont have to worry about slow turn over of food,,The food always comes at a decent size and its tasty<br/>and such great value..Definately a return customer
Lady Fabulous
Went on Saturday night for our anniversary, had a great time! Parking is a bit of a problem, but the service was great and the food was delicious. If you have a group of 6 adults or more, I highly recommend the $15 banquet!
Jarrah Jungle
Not Fancy But Cheap. This humble little chinese restaurant is always packed and there is a good reason for that - its not fancy but the food is delicious and plentiful. Its a great place to come with a group and everyone can order a dish and put it in the middle to share around. Its BYO and theres a bottle shop in the same carpark so you can grab your bottle of wine when you get there . The service is friendly, they do their best to keep up with a busy restaurant, and for family friendly dining this place is always a winner.
Niamh The Culinary Bandit
Fantastic!. Been going there for about 10 years and it's never let me down!
Kathy Quinlan
Great little restaurant. We had steamed rice, special fried rice, pepper fillet steak, boneless lemon chicken and Szechuan beef. All dishes arrived in a timely manner. Tasted very nice. Was more than the three of us could eat (we were offered take away containers). I would highly recommend this very cheaply priced restaurant .
Bernie Weller
It may be that it's Christmas but I did not find the food great but the service was very fast and friendly !
Peter Bali
Great value for money, excellent food, good staff. I have been a regular for many years, and will continue while it is the hands of current owners.

Still standing. I lived in armadale as a teen...my god this place is still there.....alot of good times there with my folks....ahhhh...anyway.took my son there for lunch ..he loved his ...mine was a chow mein filled with cabage...i hate cabage...but listen it was 7bucks a dish and next time i know but still has the same decor from when i was a kid....30 yrs ago....i know a guy who drives from butler to armadale to eat there.so what does that say
Linda Della Pollina
The old trusty. Good food great value nice staff :) can get crowded and venue dated but always a nice meal
Jarrod
Great food, Great service. I have lived in armadale practicly my whole life (sad but true) and i have never been to a Chinese Restaurant that provided better value for money than Sun Hing.<br/><br/>It has been a few years since i visited but the service has always been exceptional and the meals are delivered fast both in takeway and Dine-in. I do agree with other reviewers that the toilets are reminisent of a medievil dungeon (and just about as cold in winter) and the decor leaves a lot to be desired however the price, food quality and overall top notch service cant be beaten by anything within a 30km radius.
Steve's A Big Foodie
The old local favourite. This chinese restaurant has been around for a long long time, and serves , great tasting Chinese cuisine at very affordable prices. The premises itself (if dining in) is quite dated and old and gets quite crowded, however the food makes up for it
