Review The Manse Restaurant - Armadale

Great food! Great service! I was absolutely blown away with the quality of food and service this little place had to offer. Will go again and will deffentely be recommending to friends and family.

We love the convenience as The Manse is our local restaurant, but it is so much more than that - Garry and his staff have created special dishes for our daughter who has many allergies, They're always willing to talk with us and suggest ingredients that she can have and we all, as a family, have eaten the most delicious and superb meals - so much so that when we try another restaurant for a change, it falls far short of the quality and excellence of the Manse Meals and we always return to eat there. Their prices are extremely reasonable and we always get a meal that satisfies our appetites. I have eaten elsewhere and left after the meal is over still feeling hungry. I cannot recommend The Manse highly enough for their service, price, satisfaction and sheer relaxed comfort.

This restaurant is the best I've ever visited. The service is absolutely top-notch, and the food is beautiful. I first went there with my husband for my birthday; it was a very romantic evening, and I felt extremely spoiled. Later I've been to dinner with family and the ambience was relaxed and friendly. In all, I think that The Manse is a lovely and versatile restaurant, at the same time being relaxing, friendly, romantic, cosy, and high quality in both service and food.

Got to the restaurant on 3rd of July at 7pm and was served food at 9.10 pm. The chicken was dry and even very hungry a few people could not eat the chicken. Very bad experience. We had 20 people in that room for a birthday party and was very dissapointed. If the owner is reading this not worth paying $35 for a meal and if your restaurant cannot cope then should not have taken the booking. And also my wife ordered chicken but couldnot get it as they run out and that was just the start of dinner service. The booking was made under Lorraine.

Great food and friendly atmosphere. Food presented beautifully on the plate and very very tasty.

A very unassuming place from the outside. Although the interior is a bit dated, the quality of the food more than compensated for it. The food was very well presented, very tasty, and the sides were a good portion and very well made. The wait staff were friendly and attentive.

My all time favourite restaurant. Fantastic food every time, never left disappointed. My son likes steak and although it is not on the kids menu, they always cook him one when requested. Great friendly service staff too!

I had a terrible experience here and would not go back.

4 of us had the lamb which was tough, flavourless and one person's was undercooked.

We had a birthday cake which when it got to the table half the candles were out and there was wax on the cake. When they took it back to the kitchen to plate up it took them 10 minutes to bring back 7 pieces.

They also stole our candles.

Fantastic food and service had by our entire table.
Will be back soon.
Fantastic food and service had by our entire table.
Will be back soon.

Absolutely Amazing!. Hands down the best service and food I've had in a very long time.

Such a homely, quaint restaraunt! Would honestly give it a 10/10.

Excellent.

Won't be going again. My boyfriend took me to the Manse on Friday night to celebrate 4 years together.
He had Barramundi which tasted quite nice, but for the price should have been more of it. He looked for the lemon, but it was hiding under the fish. I asked for kangaroo, but they didn't have any which i am quite glad about reading the reviews of how tough it is.
I decided on the rack of lamb. When it came out, there were two tiny pieces of the ""rack"". There was a small amount of mashed potato along the edge of lamb and some fancy sauce squished across the plate to make it look fancy.
We both just stared at it and could not believe it. It looked like entree. About 3 mouthfuls and it was eaten. $35 for two tiny morsels of lamb.
My boyfriend was really upset the meal was so tiny and disappointed he took me there to celebrate. He said NEVER again.
What a rip off.

Nice restaurant... but the overall experience could have been better. Lovely quaint restaurant, service was great from the two waiters minus one waitress who didn't smile or say anything and also tried to take away our plates before we were done. That was a bit rude, she probably needs retraining.
Wouldn't have paid $35 for the WA beef main though as it wasn't as substantial as other restaurants I've been to (and they charge less); nevertheless it was delicious.
The Caramel Creme dessert however was a bit of a let down as the caramel sauce was too sickly sweet and the creme was tasteless. Not a good combination. $9.50 not well spent.
Despite these few pointers, I did enjoy my evening.
Perhaps though in future the restaurant could have carafes?

Birthday Dinner. Having won a voucher we decided to use it to go out for my wifes birthday. However, having read the T&Cs it turns out you can't use it on a Saturday anyway. That aside we thought we'd go anyway. BIG mistake, HUGE.. Having been seated we were greeted with this droning noise that appeared to be from an extractor fan. When I took a reading on my phone it peaked at 96 dB . When I spoke to the waiter he said what noise. Clearly he had become deafened to it. Having been moved and seated in the main room the noise was still audible but much more bearable. When looking around you wonder when it last saw a paint brush and when you look up you start to wonder if you're going to be eating the plaster as the large cracks in the ceiling and walls look very loose.
When ordering my daughter asked the waitress what the soup of the day was only to be told " I don't know". She returned 5 minutes later to tell us it was broccoli. She then disappeared again and a male waiter took our order.
Having ordered we received the Turkish bread and pate. The bread was delicious, the pate was bland and like a cheap pate from a supermarket. For entrée we ordered the fried camembert, and natural oysters with lime and tabasco. The fried camembert was very nice indeed a crispy outer and smooth and creamy centre, not over cooked as you often get when ordering this elsewhere. Unfortunately, the oysters arrived without the lime and a half bottle of grubby tabasco sauce in the middle of the plate. For mains my wife ordered the barramundi, my daughter had a kids lasagna and I ordered a blue fillet steak and was told I couldn't have it blue! I subsequently ordered the kangaroo . Having waited 40 minutes for the entrée we were getting a little anxious at 50 minutes and we were pleased when it arrived shortly after. However, the order arrived minus our side orders of vegetables and they arrived a few minutes later. See attached photo (you may need more than 1) Three green beans, 1 sprig of broccoli and 4 julienne of carrots. My daughters kids meal was substantial and good value for money though far too large for a child. My wifes barramundi was pleasant if a little dry especially on the ends where it had overcooked. The vegetables were decent with the exception of the overcooked carrots. The roast beetroot that came with the kangaroo was excellent, tender with a bit of a bite. Then we come to the disappointment of the Kangaroo. Having had kangaroo numerous times I have to question if in fact it was kangaroo. To say it was tough would be an understatement and chew as I may I struggled to swallow it. It ate more like undercooked chuck steak! Needless to say having tried a piece from each of the 6 pieces on the plate I gave up.
Dessert wasn't an option.....
With regards to wait staff they were un-attentive, no water was left at the table and had to ask for it in the end. When asking for the lime for the oysters the waitress just vanished and I had to ask another waiter. At no time were we asked if we needed anything or if everything was ok .
As for the voucher, I think I might be selling it to recoup some of the money spent this evening on overpriced food. A lesson learnt, the food is better and cheaper at Hogs Breath alternative pay a bit more and eat at Burswood's Atrium or Rock Pool.

Fish and Steak. Very disappointed. Went to the Manse for my husband’s birthday. My daughter and I had the Barramundi which was a big slab and dry and ???? Australian or from overseas. My husband had the steak and asked for it medium rare but came medium well done but we did not have time to return it and wait for another as it took 90 mins for 2 courses. The entrees were good. No one came to top up our water or even ask if everything was ok. On paying I told the waiter I was disappointed with the meal and asked if the Barramundi was Australian and he "thought" it was. He very kindly deducted $15 off the bill. It was still a very expensive meal.

Beautiful. We have just had one of the best meals ever. The service and attentiveness if the staff was excellent, the meal truly delicious. Recommend it highly and will absolutely go there again. Thanks manse for a lovely evening.

Once and never again. Dont bother, McDonalds is down the road and cheaper

Nice setting and very attentive staff but the food was overpriced and not good at all. I had the kangaroo and beet and there was about 3 servings worth of meat (far too much for one person) and it was drowning in this beet and berry sauce which tasted more like dessert. The meat was like chewing on an old car tyre. Entree on stuffed mushrooms sounded good on paper but when it came out only one of the three mushrooms had the blue cheese in it and they were small cup mushrooms (not $18 worth). Still not sure what all the fuss is about. I wouldn't go back, any number of pubs in the area are better value for money and taste much nicer.

Really good food, decent prices, nice dining room although furniture looked a bit dated, definately wouldn't stop us going back tho. Oh and BYO with no corkage!!

Definitely eating here again. My family and I went here for a birthday dinner. The owner looked after us and was so friendly. Great service. Best food. The garlic prawns I ordered were to die for. Everyone was really happy with their food. The restaurant was really child friendly too. I am definitely dining here again.

My favourite!. This restaurant is the best I've ever visited. The service is absolutely top-notch, and the food is beautiful. I first went there with my husband for my birthday; it was a very romantic evening, and I felt extremely spoiled.
Lately I've been to dinner with family there and the ambience was relaxed and friendly.

I've always found the food to be excellent, but in particular the deep-fried camembert, the tabasco & lime oysters, and the bacon-wrapped steaks are well worth a try.

In all, I think that The Manse is a lovely and versatile restaurant, at the same time being relaxing, friendly, romantic, cosy, and high quality in both service and food.

Meh. Really bland food. Service was ok, very overpriced for average home cooked meals. For the same price rolleys on the ridge and hunters's lodge is MUCH better.

We have been there twice lately and went there the second time because the first time was so good The second was just as good top service too

Fish & Beef. Wife & I went to The Manse for the first time last night. Firstly the food, I had the Barramundi and it was pleasant, a little over cooked (dry) and obviously that Asian farmed type but ok. My beetroot salad was great. Wife had the fillet and it was a great piece of meat. She usually has to ask for "blue" just to get rare but the chief did a great job. The service - Brilliant. The wait staff were polite, attentive and knew the menu, even apologised for forgetting to top our water once. Set prices, good wait staff, no ridiculous "corkage" fees and good food; wont have the fish again but will defiantly return. Well worth the try.

AWESOME. My husband and I went to this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and ordered entree, main and dessert each for only $60 each! it was beautiful. I honestly cannot fault the food at all. My husband never usually eats desserts but scraped his plate clean that night. We were both joking that it was like master chef :) I could go on and on about how delicious it all was.
We also had the team from the Manse cater for our wedding in February this year and the food then was just perfect. Everyone loved it and I am so glad that they did the catering.
I know i will go back with the rest of my family again soon just so they can understand why I loved it so much :)
Westie85
AWFUL. I ordered medium steak, came out OVER WELL done - like card board AFTER an hour and a half wait.
I asked them to re do the steak, the waiter looked at me like I had two heads..

NEVER going back there again.

Very Child Friendly. Do you have the right place 'What can I say'. I have been to the Manse several occasions with my children aged from 5- 10. The staff are always accomodating, offering colouring packs, and plactic cups for my youngest. The food has always been fresh ( not processed like most restaurants chicken nuggets). The chef has never had an issue with putting sauces on the side and accomodating all our requests as we have a some food allergies also. Went there Mothers Day- busy but great food and service.

NOT KID FRIENDLY. I took my young daughter of 8 to cheer her up as her grandma had died and she missed her so said she could order what she liked. If was pretty apparent from the beginning they were not interested in us because she was a child and i asked for the sauce on the side or in a sauce jug as she doesn't like a lot of the sauces. It appeared that they do not like cooking the meat well done nor do you have a chose of the sauce being separate the waitress had to ask the chef and it still came out on the meat which she wouldn't eat. If i am paying i would like it the way i want it and especially at the prices they charge for Al-cart. Made to feel very unwelcome went to Baskin and Robins in Canning Vale to get ice cream to make up the terrible night. The food was nice but my daughter wouldn't eat hers because of the sauce and it was too pink. Atmosphere makes up for 50% of the dinning experience and it is not all about the chef.

Oh dear. Gary the chef is up to his old tricks using sauces from a bottle. ... and overpriced meals. Did he BUY the Gold Plates that adorn the walls? three strips of chicken smothered in peanut sauce from a squeezie bottle charged $18.50. roast beetroot on the menu..
.. comes as a cold boiled beet. oh dear.... would we come again? nooooo

Went out on a Saturday night with friends, nice food, excellent quick service, fair price, worth a visit.

Mid-week Birthday dinner. We went on Thursday night for a Birthday dinner. My overall impression was that it was nice, the nicest thing in Armadale by far. I recommend this restaurant for special occassions in the Armadale area but if you can travel an extra 20mins into the hills there are nicer options available. Overall it could do with a "refresh" and reboot. The decor was old as was the furniture. There were a lot of golden plate awards on display but I could not make out any recent ones. The food was nice and well cooked. The service was really good and attentive. Food was well prepared but a little old fashioned. There were no vegetarian options but a note on the menu stated they could accomodate dietry requirements. I would recommend the restuarant taking the time and money to redo the interior and revamp their menu and then I am sure they will reinvigorate their business. They have the basics there, good food and service but it all needs freshening up.

So So. We had dinner here a little while ago just to see what all the rage was about. We soon realized that it was all hype.

The Restaurant is set within a small old building, with several seperate dining rooms. It is cozy but you can hear the conversations all around you. At least it can keep you entertained during the long wait for your meal.

The meals are very ordinary, so much so that I don't even remember what we ate.

Not worth the wait. The Manse used to be great but something's gone wrong over the last few years. Went here recently for my sister in laws birthday and lets just say that a full restaurant needs a full compliment of staff. Our whole dinner experience took about 3 1/2 hours with extremely long waits between entree, main and dessert [which we took as a b'day cake] so they didn't even have to make dessert for us. My brother asked repeatedly for one of the beers he had brought [BYO]. I think he asked about 4 times. 3 of those times to the same guy. Anyway, I could forgive the lack of service if the food was good but it didn't even reach mediocre. We all had different things and lets just say, never order the T-bone steak. It was one of the thinnest steaks I've ever seen. It looked like the one they reduced at the end of the day at Woolies cause no one wanted to buy it. Needless to say we're not going back. Try Roley's on the Ridge, they're 10 times better with food and service!

Excellent value and taste. Had a special bday dinner for a large group recently. All served together and good amounts of food each course. Even had a doggy bag. Yet another great night out thanks to Gary and his staff. Definitely going again soon.

Special night???????????. After waitng 20 mimutes to have our order taken, then another 20 minutes for them to arrive, then another 20 minutes for the plates to be cleared. Then another 30 minutes for the mains to arrive we were over the the whole cosy experiance.
If you go there make sure you have plenty of time wait for you meal.
Quality of food; 7/10 I could not eat my main as it was so late but my wife enjoyed her fish cakes.
Value for money; 7/10
Service; 3/10
will I go back there??? After over 40 years of restauranting I can honestly say, NOT if I can help it.
Catherine
Charming. Very charming and cosy restaurant.
I had a birthday gathering with 20 guests and we were impressed by the service and food.
It would be a lovely place for family dining too.

Just plain awful. My partner and I tend to go to family restaurants as the ambiance is always lovely. The Manse was cosy but it felt almost that people were scared to talk being so close and cosy. The food was super small portions compared to other restaurants we have been to and the service was abismal. 25 minutes before we were asked what we would like to drink and 45 minutes from when we were seated for entree's, another 50 minutes before mains, another 30 for dessert and then 10 for tea/coffee. 3 hours in total before we left was ridiculous. I could hear other diners also complaining that their tea and coffee didn't come out with their dessert. My partner enjoyed his meal apart from the portions. I had the seafood plate for main and the salmon was overcooked and I felt lucky to get 3 prawns. We had heard about the chocolate cheesecake from a review however for me it not taste creamy of choclatey at all, tasted tastless and the chocolate almost tasted like compound chocolate. One last thing-the chairs are awful!! Wired back chairs that become uncomfortable after the first hour...try 3 hours in them. Back pain nightmare.
JennANDjuiice
Nice little restaurant, doesnt look like much from the outside. Inside is quiet cosy. Service was slow. entree came out and we waited about 40 minutes for the mains. My meal was quiet nice, the lamb cutlet was a little dry but the pork wrapped in bacon was good. entree was really nice, scallops with pork belly

Fine dinning i dont tthinkso.. My food was really nice but.... just a few things the steak that was orderd by two people at my table didnt arrive as ordered both over cooked. also cream should be serve with merague my motherinlaw said it was a bit dry. also i had the pear . which was nice but ,,, a whole stick of cinnamon really. cant eat that. why use it when it had no flavour of cinnamon. on the plate a sprinkle would have been better. the salad looked like it was done by a child no fine dinning when it comes to salad.

Lovely restaurant, great service and food was beautiful.

Awesome surprise. Hubby and I dined at the Manse tonight and we were very pleasantly surprised. Firstly we were greeted by pleasant, efficient and friendly service - not chatty friendly type service but fine(er) dining, know the restaurant, know the food, believe in it sort of service. Who would have thought!? Tick first impression and tick service box. Once we got over our shock and were asked if they could pour my wine (no corkage and BYO mind you) we ordered garlic bread, and entrees. I had the natural oysters, served with line and Tabasco sauce and hubby had the smoked salmon bruschetta. My oysters were not, as typically presented, in reused shells, they were in fact on their original shells, so fresh that the little lipids on the outer shell were still alive! Large and flechy, tasting of the sea and with no odour - You don't expect fresh seafood in Armadale!!! Yum, and so satisfying, the way oysters should be. Hubby's smoked salmon was fresh and room temp, allowing for beautiful flavour upon the chunks of brie underneath and then to savour the thinly sliced Turkish bread toasted to perfection. A nice simple classily presented entrée. Tick the entrée box. The main was something else. Not only was my rib eye steak served with home-style bacon wrapped around it but he (often not so texture perfect cut) was cooked to medium rare beautifully. The meat rested on smooth and flavourful mash with a roasted tomato that was flavourful and fresh. I am not as fussy as hubby but even he complimented the meal. However, I was lucky to get a sample of his meal as I have yet to see him enjoy nay meal, let alone Kangaroo like he did tonight. Dukkah crusted kangaroo loin served on roasted beetroot and a red wine jus was actually more than amazing - he wished it wouldn't end and I wished I had chosen it! He went out of his way to praise the chef and tell others as he walked out. We had no room for desert rolled ourselves out the door very satisfied and so very pleasantly surprised. We intend to make the Manse a regular haunt!!

Diamond in the rough.... Had dinner at this quaint little restaurant last night. The decor is a bit dated, but I think it helps add to the charm of the place. The restaurant has been around since the 80s and every table was filled with diners - a pretty good sign.

Good, honest food. I had the chicken breast, which was definitely one of the better ones I've eaten in Perth. I'm always a bit scared its going to end up being dry, but not the case here at the Manse. It was delicious, I polished off the entire thing (= Came with homemade chips and salad with a nice sweet tangy dressing. My companions all enjoyed their mains as well.

Cheese plate was pretty average, with Jatz style crackers and supermarket cheese. Pecan pie was deathly sweet.. maybe I need to work on my sweet tooth. Desserts could definitely be improved.

Other than one of the waitresses clearing away my dessert without asking if I had finished (I had not), the service was great. They happily allowed us to split the bill and turned the aircon down a notch without complaint when I was getting chilly!

Don't forget the wine! It's BYO alcohol.

Would return if in the area, but would stick to mains/entrees. Good little (only??) finer dining restaurant in the Armadale area.
Geoff
Good menu with good quality ingredients used and nicely prepared, generous serves. I like eating there....thinking I might go again soon
John Smith
John. Great restaurant. Never leave this place hungry or feeling like you've been fleeced! Go for the reef and beef, it's really lovely. Sweet trolley could be a little better, but considering the portions you get, if you get to the sweet, you've done well.
Mr Lad
2 words - VERY NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was quite expensive for a somewhat mediocre meal, but it provided a place for the extended family to meet and dine for Christmas day in Perth, and someone else did the washing up.
